Three new species of beetles in the genus Loxandrus are described: L. straneoi from the southern United States, L. icarus from the Eastern United States, and L. quinarius from central Bolivia. Loxandrus icarus, inhabitant of wet lowland habitat, is unique among eastern North American species in having reduced flight wings. The only other North American species with reduced flight wings, L. omiltemi Allen & Ball, is known from temperate cloud forest habitat in Mexico. Loxandrus quinarius shares a striking phenetic similarity to some members of the African caelostomine genus Strigomerus Chaudoir, and with L. strigomeroides Straneo. Illustrations of the male genitalia of L. strigomeroides and L. mirei Straneo are presented here to assist in identification of these species. The distributional range of L. strigomeroides is newly noted to extend across the Amazon basin. Loxandrus inferus Allen is placed into synonymy under L. velocipes Casey.  相似文献

潜跳甲属Podagricomela Heikertinger是芸香科植物害虫,成虫食叶,幼虫潜食叶片、叶柄、花、及花柄等,我国已知7种(陈世骧、谢蕴贞,1966)。其中桔潜跳甲P.nigricollis Chen和枸桔潜跳甲P.weisei Heikertinger在我国江南柑桔产区,花椒潜跳甲P.shirahatai(Chujo)在山西及河南花椒栽培区,均造成严重危害。本文记述2新种,均为害花椒;产于陕西西部、甘肃南部和四川北部,在甘肃陇南地区这两种混合发生,为害很严重。新种模式标本保存在中国科学院动物研究所。  相似文献

The genus Chrysolina consists of specialized phytophagous leaf-beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) with feed on several plant families. There is no explicit phylogenetic hypothesis available for this genus, which includes 65 subgenera and more than 400 species with a wide distribution. We obtained 839-bp sequence data from the 16S rDNA and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) mitochondrial genes. Thirty Chrysolina taxa representing eight host–plant affiliations, two species of the closely related genus Oreina, and two outgroups were sampled. These data sets were used separately and combined to obtain the mitochondrial cladogram of the group using maximum-parsimony and maximum-likelihood criteria. The results were compared to current proposals for Chrysolina systematics that are based on morphological, ecological, and karyological data. The trees obtained were in the most part congruent with the proposed ancestral association of Chrysolina to Lamiaceae based on chromosome number in several lineages. A minimum of five host-plant switches from the ancestral state inferred at the family level and two at the subclass level suggests the absence of parallel evolution of beetles and their host plants. Another switch leading to oligophagy at the family level was deduced to have occurred in the lineage of the subgenus Chrysolina s.str. Received: 22 May 1998 / Accepted: 16 September 1998  相似文献

Based on the author’s investigation and literature data, a list of flea beetles of the Southern Urals is compiled for the first time. It includes 136 species belonging to 16 genera; the occurrence of 88 species is proved by the author’s material. Five species are recorded for the region for the first time. Misidentifications of some species previously recorded for the region are revealed.  相似文献

Altica filipendulae sp. n. is described from the Southern Urals. The new species is most closely related to A. longicollis (Allard) and differs from it in the narrower terete body with less prominent humeri, shallower antebasal depression of the pronotum, details of the aedeagus structure, and in the host plant. The chromosomes of ten species of Cyrtonus and the genome sizes of six are surveyed. Among the total of 15 chromosomally studied species, 11 have 2n=28 chromosomes and a 13+Xyp male meioformula, three have 2n=40 and 19+Xyp and one 2n=46 and 22+Xyp. All but one species with 28 chromosomes show only metacentric or submetacentric chromosomes, whereas the species with 40 and 46 chromosomes display some telocentrics or subtelocentrics, that are probably derived from the former by centric fissions. However, since the number of major chromosome arms is strikingly higher in these latter species (NF=70 and 78) than in the 28-chromosome species (mostly NF=56), other chromosomal rearrangements such as pericentric inversions or heterochromatin accretions could also be involved. The genome sizes display a narrow range, from 1C=0.6–1.22pg, and they are not significantly correlated with the chromosome numbers. Some possible factors implied in the rough chromosomal evolution of Cyrtonus are discussed in relation to a few other genera of the subfamily Chrysomelinae.  相似文献

A new genus and species of Lamprosomatinae, Cachiporra extremaglobosa Chamorro & Konstantinov, is described from Brazil. A new tribe, Cachiporrini, is proposed. The first phylogenetic analysis of Lamprosomatinae based on adult morphological caharacters is conducted. Comparisons are made among lamprosomatine tribes and genera. Hyperaccumulated elements such as Ni may defend plants against some natural enemies whereas other enemies may circumvent this defense. The Ni hyperaccumulator Berkheya coddii Roessler (Asteraceae) is a host plant species for Chrysolina clathrata (Clark), which suffers no apparent harm by consuming its leaf tissue. Beetle specimens collected from B. coddii had a whole body Ni concentration of 260 μg/g dry weight, despite consuming leaf material containing 15 100 μg Ni/g. Two experiments were conducted with adults of this beetle species: a no-choice experiment and a choice experiment. In the no-choice experiment we offered beetles foliage of one of four species of Berkheya: B. coddii, B. rehmannii Thell. var. rogersiana Thell., B. echinacea (Harv.) O. Hoffm. ex Burtt Davey, and B. insignis (Harv.) Thell. The two former species are Ni hyperaccumulators (defined as having leaf Ni concentration > 1 000 μg/g) whereas the latter have low Ni levels (< 200 μg/g) in their leaves. Masses of beetles were monitored for 6 days. Choice experiments used growing stem tips from the same Berkheya species, placed into Petri dishes with five Chrysolina beetles in each, and the amount of feeding damage caused on each of the four species was recorded. Beetles in the no-choice experiment gained mass when offered B. coddii , maintained mass on leaves of the other Ni hyperaccumulator ( B. rehmannii var. rogersiana ), and lost mass when offered non-hyperaccumulator leaves. In the choice test, beetles strongly preferred B. coddii to other Berkheya species. We conclude that C. clathrata may be host-specific on B. coddii.  相似文献

To assess the levels of variation at different evolutionary scales in the mitochondrial (mt) control region of leaf beetles, we sequenced and compared the full mt control region in two genera ( Chrysomela and Gonioctena), in two species within a genus ( Gonioctena olivacea and G. pallida), in individuals from distant populations of these species in Europe, and in individuals from populations separated by moderate (10- to 100-km) to short (<5-km) distances. In all individuals, a highly repetitive section consisting of the tandem repetition of 12 to 17 imperfect copies of a 107- to 159-bp-long core sequence was observed. This repetitive fragment accounts for roughly 50% of the full control-region length. The sequence variability among repeated elements within the control region of a given individual depends on the species considered: the variability within any G. olivacea individual is much higher than that within G. pallida individuals. Comparisons of the repeated elements, in a phylogenetic framework, within and among individuals of G. olivacea and G. pallida suggests that the repetitive section of the control region experienced recurrent duplications/deletions, leading to some degree of concerted evolution. Comparisons between Chrysomela and Gonioctena control regions revealed virtually no significant sequence similarity, except for two long stretches of A's and several [T(T)A(A)] repeats, all found in the control region of other insect orders. Our analyses allowed us to identify portions of the control region with enough variation for population genetic or phylogeographic studies.  相似文献
