Although reservoirs in China are of great significance, very few studies on risk assessment have been reported for reservoirs. This study investigated distribution characteristics, cancer and ecological risks, and source diagnosis of 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediments from Shitou Koumen Reservoir in Jilin Province, China. A total of 12 sediment samples were collected from the reservoir in August (wet season) 2014. Total PAH concentrations in sediment samples ranged from 1294.51 ng/g to 2755.35 ng/g with a mean concentration of 1757.54 ng/g. For individual PAHs, average concentration of Nap was the highest, 800.56 ng/g, while Acy, Fla, BkF, and DahA were undetected in sediment samples. Light PAHs (2–3 rings) accounting for 74.21% was a dominant PAH compositional pattern. Pearson correlation analysis was carried out; results showed that total PAHs was strongly correlated with the highly enriched sedimentary PAHs, and pH was a major factor in controlling PAH distribution. Lifetime cancer risk was employed to assess cancer risk; results indicated that the fish-culturing area was exposed to cancer risk. The molecular diagnostic ratios of isomeric PAHs were applied to identify possible PAH sources; primary PAH sources were identified as oil-related activities, burning agricultural wastes, vehicular emissions, and industrial discharges. 相似文献

This work was to investigate distribution characteristics, human health risk assessment, and possible sources of 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in corn and surface soils of farmlands along main roadside in Changchun City, Jilin Province, China. Total concentrations of 16 PAHs ranged from 1572.4 to 4390.2 µg/kg with a mean value of 2954.9 µg/kg in soils and from 219.9 to 627 µg/kg with a mean value of 362µg/kg in corn. Light-molecular-weight PAHs (2–3 rings) concentration was dominant in soils, accounting for 51%, whereas high-molecular-weight PAHs (5–6 rings) concentration was highest in corn, accounting for 48%. The results of plant concentration factor indicated that high-molecular-weight PAHs have greater mobility. To evaluate potential risk to human health, hazard index (HI) and risk index (RI) were employed. The values of HI for corn and soils were both smaller than 1, indicating that exposure of PAHs posed no or little potential risk to local residents. The fact that values of RI for corn and soils were smaller than 1 × 10–4 suggested that exposure of PAHs posed no or little cancer risk to local residents. The possible sources of PAHs in corn and soils were both identified as mixture patterns of pyrogenic and petrogenic sources. 相似文献

Environmental health is an essential component of quality of life in modern societies. Foliar dust contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that may have harmful effects on human health. The PAHs concentration of foliar dust is useful to assess environmental air pollution. Our results indicate that: (1) the highest levels of PAHs were distributed in urban areas, with a mean of 3430.23 ng·g?1, lower mean concentrations were found in suburban (2282.12 ng·g?1), and rural areas (1671.06 ng·g?1). (2) Diagnostic ratios and principal component analysis were used to identify the sources of PAHs: Gasoline vehicle traffic emissions were the predominant source in urban areas, along with coal and coke combustion. In suburban areas, the main sources were petroleum combustion (especially liquid fossil fuels) and coal combustion. Coal and wood combustion were the primary source of PAHs in foliar dust in rural areas. (3) The incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR), estimated based on the results of this study indicate that urban residents were potentially exposed to high cancer risk via both dust ingestion and dermal contact. We conclude that urbanization has significant effects on the PAH concentrations of foliar dust, illustrating the importance of trees in improving air quality in urban areas. 相似文献

Carcinogenic risk assessments of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in four sites from the Central Himalayas (Bode, Lumbini, Pokhara, and Dhunche) were performed. Lifetime Average Daily Dose (LADD), Lifetime lung cancer risk (LLCR) and Incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) were calculated in order to evaluate the cancer risk. PAHs levels were converted to BaP equivalent concentrations (B[a]Peq), and models of health risk assessment were applied. B[a]Peq concentrations exceeded the standard limited value (1 ng/m3) in all the four sites. The human health risk assessment (HHRA) demonstrated high carcinogenic risk on residents of Bode and Lumbini. Further, LLCR in all sites were over the acceptable range (1.15E-03, 7.90E-04, 1.40E-04 and 9.96E-05, respectively); however, ILCR ranking exhibited acceptable range in Lumbini, Pokhara, and Dhunche (7.10E-06, 1.26E-06, and 8.95E-07). The risk variation among the sites is due to the difference in pollution status. The study shows health risk due to atmospheric PAHs via inhalation prevails all the seasons throughout, differing only seasonally; nevertheless, the concentration and carcinogenic risk decreased remarkably from south-north transect of the central Himalaya. Keeping some uncertainties aside, this study provides noble insights and helps to formulate new advance assessment on the carcinogenic risk of atmospheric PAHs over the Central Himalayas. 相似文献

Mahshahr has a strategic position and is considered as industrial hub of Iran. Selected heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) contamination and health risk, and the mineralogical composition of street dust from Mahshahr were investigated. Results indicated that geology is the main determinant of the dust mineralogical composition. Calculated enrichment factor (EF) and principal component analysis (PCA) showed that Pb, Hg, Zn, and Cu accumulations are greatly influenced by anthropogenic sources including traffic and industry. High heavy metals content poses great ecological risk in the study area and exposure doses revealed that ingestion is the main exposure route to street dust, especially for children in residential/commercial areas. It was found that the total amount of PAHs (∑PAHs) varies from 161 to 1996 µg/kg, dominated by four-ring PAHs. Diagnostic ratios and PCA showed that both petrogenic and pyrogenic sources of PAHs in Mahshahr street dust and traffic play important roles in this respect. Furthermore, toxic equivalents and incremental lifetime cancer risk of PAHs in street dust indicated a high potential carcinogenic risk for inhabitants mainly via dermal contact and ingestion pathways particularly for outdoor workers in industrial use scenario. Finally, distribution maps of total hazard index of heavy metals and cancer risk of PAHs indicated the most impacted zones for different groups and use scenarios. 相似文献

选择苜蓿草和水稻为供试植物,以污染物水平、有机以、专性细菌和真菌为调控因子,进行土壤中矿物油和PAHs的生物修复研究,结果表明,投肥对苜蓿草土壤中矿物油降解有促进作用,但对水稻土壤中矿物油降解无明显作用,投肥均使苜蓿草和水稻土壤中多环芒烃总量(11种列于美国EPA黑名单上的多环芳烃)降解率提高,这一降解促进效果在水稻土壤中好于苜蓿草土壤,有机肥量与苜蓿草根际土著真菌、细菌数量明显呈正相关,但仅与水稻根际土著细菌数量呈明显正相关,两种土壤中实测真菌和细菌总数均与试验投加专性真菌和细菌量无关,水稻土和苜蓿草土壤中3环多环芳烃的降解随投肥量增大而降解率提高,其在水稻土蓑中的效果好于苜蓿草土壤,投肥怪4环多环芳烃的降解并未产生有效作用。 相似文献

Humans experience chronic cumulative trace-level exposure to mixtures of volatile, semi-volatile, and non-volatile polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in the environment as by-products of combustion processes. Certain PAHs are known or suspected human carcinogens and so we have developed methodology for measuring their circulating (blood borne) concentrations as a tool to assess internal dose and health risk. We use liquid/liquid extraction and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and present analytical parameters including dynamic range (0–250 ng/ml), linearity (>0.99 for all compounds), and instrument sensitivity (range 2–22 pg/ml) for a series of 22 PAHs representing 2–6-rings. The method is shown to be sufficiently sensitive for estimating PAHs baseline levels (typical median range from 1 to 1000 pg/ml) in groups of normal control subjects using 1-ml aliquots of human plasma but we note that some individuals have very low background concentrations for 5- and 6-ring compounds that fall below robust quantitation levels. 相似文献

The unintentional ingestion of carcinogenic xenobiotic substances leads to the high risk of cancer. Dietary fiber (DF) may protect against cancer by sorbing such chemicals. To this end, the sorption of four polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to DF extracted from wheat bran (WB) was studied. The strong affinity of PAHs to DF and WB indicated the effective binding of PAHs, and their distribution coefficients (Kd) positively increased with the increase in hydrophobicity of the PAHs. The DF had much higher Kd values for all PAHs compared to those of the unprocessed WB. The DF extraction process removed hydrophilic residues, such as starch, from WB, and increased the roughness of DF surface. Loss of hydrophilic components from WB to DF led to much higher affinity of DF with PAHs than WB. The results indicate that the DF can effectively sorb and remove xenobiotics, thereby having the potential to lower carcinogenic risk to humans. 相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the occurrence, distribution, and source of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the Hanjiang River Basin and the Danjiangkou (DJK) Reservoir. The concentrations of total PAHs in surface water, sediments, and bank soils ranged from 9.42 to 137.94 ng/l, 86.23 to 2514.93 ng/g, and 133.17 to 671.93 ng/g dry weight, respectively. The composition pattern of PAHs showed that 3-ring PAHs were dominated in all of the samples, while the proportion of high molecular weight PAHs (5- to 6-ring PAHs) in sediments and bank soil samples was almost three times higher than water. The source apportionment analysis showed that most of the PAHs in water were derived from sources of petroleum and combustion, while combustion was the predominant source of PAHs in sediments and bank soils. The methods based on toxic equivalency factors, risk quotient, and incremental lifetime cancer risk were used to assess the ecosystem risk and potential health risk of PAHs. The risk assessments showed that PAHs in the DJK Reservoir were out of potential health risk, but the ecological risk for majority of 16 PAHs was in the moderate level. 相似文献

Sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were investigated in urban soils of Ahvaz metropolis to assess the contamination, distribution, potential sources, and related health risks for local residents. For this purpose, a total of 39 topsoil samples from different parts of the city were collected and analyzed for PAHs using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. PAHs analysis revealed that 4 -rings PAHs are the dominant compounds. Distribution maps revealed that outlet roads of the city and an area in city center, particularly an industrial area at Southwest of the city, West Saheli street, Pasdaran Blvd, Ahvaz-Ramhormoz Police Station, Khorramshahr bus terminal, and Daneshgah Square, are the contamination hotspots. PAHs diagnostic ratios and principal component analysis (PCA) showed both petrogenic and pyrogenic sources for these compounds, although, the results indicated the dominance of pyrogenic (combustion) origin, particularly traffic emission, incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and gasoline emissions. Furthermore, calculation of toxic equivalents and cancer risk showed a high carcinogenic risk especially through dermal contact and ingestion pathways; however, compared with adults, children faced more cancer risk in their daily life through their unconscious ingestion and dermal contact pathway. 相似文献

对土壤中多环芳烃和重金属的行为研究表明,与对照相比,0—20cm以上表土层存在多环芳烃和重金属积累,20cm以下土层未发现积累;与春、秋两次采样结果相比,土壤中多环芳烃的含量有所下降,表明土壤微生物对多环芳烃有一定降解作用,且其降解程度与土壤-植物系统的生态结构有关.菲在地下水中检出浓度较高,表明这一污染物有向下迁移的可能性.此外,柳树对土壤中重金属Cd的积累有明显的削减与净化作用.本研究表明,严格限制污水中多环芳烃和重金属的污染负荷以及设计合理的生态结构是避免多环芳烃和重金属在土壤中积累的关键. 相似文献

Effectiveness of phytoremediation as a secondary treatment for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in composted soil 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
A greenhouse study was conducted over a 12-month period to investigate the fate of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil using phytoremediation as a secondary treatment. The soil was pretreated by composting for 12 weeks, then planted with tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea), annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), and yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis). Two sets of unvegetated controls also were evaluated, one fertilized and one unfertilized. Total PAH concentrations decreased in the tall fescue, annual ryegrass, and yellow sweet clover treatments by 23.9%, 15.3%, and 9.1%, respectively, whereas the control was reduced by less than 5%. The smaller two- and most of the three-ringed compounds--naphthalene, acenaphthylene, acenaphthene, fluorene, and anthracene--were not found in detectable concentrations in any of the treatments. The most probable number analysis for microbial PAH degraders did not show any statistically significant differences among treatments. There were significant differences among treatments (p < 0.05) for the residual concentrations of five of the target PAHs. Root surface area measurements indicated that tall fescue and annual ryegrass both had significantly higher root surface area than yellow sweet clover, although the two species were not significantly different from each other. The tall fescue treatment resulted in the highest root and shoot biomass, followed by annual ryegrass and yellow sweet clover, and also had the highest percent of contaminant removal after 12 months. These results imply a positive relationship between plant biomass development and PAH biodegradation. 相似文献

Regional-scale mass balance models are often used to simulate the multimedia environmental behaviors of organic contaminants. Variables with spatial and temporal characteristics in these models are important factors of their authenticity. The BETR-MFG(IV) model was developed to characterize the spatial and temporal variations as well as health risks of 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Daqing City, a typical petroleum industrial city in the Heilongjiang Province, China. The non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks of these contaminants are assessed on the basis of the BETR-MFG(IV) modeled results. The simulated results showed that the temporal trends of the PAHs in the multimedia environments are in a relative steady state, and the most seriously contaminated area is the municipal districts of Daqing City. It was also demonstrated that the soil is the dominant sink and that the contaminants in the water and sediment are mainly concentrated in the Nanyin Reservoir and Daqing Reservoir. The health risks of the ΣPAHs in the study area primarily come from the pathways of soil ingestion and skin exposure. These findings are helpful to determine the spatio-temporal exposure characteristics of the contaminants, which will provide a scientific guideline for environmental protection and risk management. 相似文献

The produced water extracted during oil and gas production includes formation water, injected water, small volumes of condensed water, and any chemical added during the oil/water separation process. Produced water contains both organic and inorganic constituents, and several studies have been conducted in the past to assess their risk. The toxicity and persistence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in produced water is of particular environmental concern, but there are very few studies on human health risk assessment from PAHs of produced water. This article summarizes the results of a conservative human health risk assessment approach for PAHs in produced water discharges to the marine environment. Due to the absence of available toxicity data for PAHs, the cancer slope factors were determined by using the relative potency factors (RPF) and Toxicity Equivalency Factors (TEF). Using the concentration distribution factors, the maximum cancer risks to humans were predicted in the range of 4.07 × 10?7 to 2.95 × 10?6. The International Program on Chemical Safety (IPCS), a collaborative program of the United Nations Environment Program, the
International Labour Organization (ILO), and the World Health Organization (WHO), includes the Environmental Health Criteria
(EHC) Program inaugurated in 1973 by WHO. These EHC are integrated evaluations of the human health and environmental risks
from exposure to specific chemicals carried out by a group of international scientists. Boron (B) was evaluated at an IPCS
Task Group (TG) convened in November 1996.
All TGs are convened under WHO rules and procedures. These procedures relate the overall process used to prepare an EHC including
transparency of the process, conflict of interest, the roles of Members and Observers, and the conduct of the TG. The scope
and purpose of an EHC, for an element such as B, and its possible role in national and international chemical safety programs
will be discussed.
In the early 1990s, countries asked that IPCS request TGs to prepare, where data permit, health-based guidance values (GVs)
(both total daily intake and to recommend health-based guidelines for various environmental media). This final evaluation
in an EHC reflects the collective consensus view of the TG Members. To foster the use of consistent methodology by TGs, IPCS
prepared in 1994 an EHC on the methodology for the preparation of GVs for human exposure limits (EHC 170). In developing their
final evaluation, TGs have been asked to consider using this methodology. This was done by the TG on B, and a total daily
intake for humans of 0.4 mg/kg body wt was derived from animal studies of reproductive and developmental effects in rodents
and pharmacokinetic data from both animals and humans. The application of the methodology described in EHC 170 regarding choice

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are typically persistent organic pollutants with hypertoxicity and widespreading, attracting increasing attention in recent years. Six paddy land sites soils irrigated from different rivers in the Nansi Lake area of Shandong Province, China, were studied to analyze and assess the source and risk of PAHs.Analysis revealed total PAHs (TPAHs) concentrations in topsoil ranging from 57.49 to 2046.47 μg kg?1, meanwhile, Weishan County (WS) was highly contaminated primarily from coal combustion based on the Nemerow composite index and geochemical indices.Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) suggested that bacterial species were affected by pH, TPAHs, and soil organic matter (SOM), while covariables analysis confirmed that most effects of PAHs on bacterial diversity were attributed to the PAHs effect alone rather than the combined effects of PAHs and soil properties. The average daily human exposure (ADE) in children was approximately 2 times higher than that in adults, and the exposure paths values followed a decreasing order, oral intake > skin contact > inhalation. Furthermore, the WS site and another rice test field (TF) presented potential cancer risks and required further investigation. Therefore, the study has important theoretical significance for the control of PAHs pollution in this field, providing a scientific basis for health assessment. 相似文献

In the surface water of Lake Chaohu, China, the concentrations of 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured by gas chromatograph–mass spectrometer (GC–MS). Based on the species sensitivity distribution (SSD) model and the probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) model, the indicators were calculated to assess the potential ecological risk of the individual and of multiple congeners of PAHs and their probabilities. The results revealed that the average residual level of the total PAHs (PAH16) in the water ranged from 95.2 to 370.1 ng/L, with a mean value 181.5 ± 70.8 ng/L. The PAH content in the water was dominated by the low-molecular-weight congeners. The multi-substance potentially affected fractions (msPAFs) of the studied PAHs obtained by the SSD model varied from 0.29% (site B3) to 1.58% (site B6), with an average of 0.51 ± 0.34%. The average of the msPAFs (0.93%) for the inflow rivers was greater than that for the western (0.42%) and eastern (0.34%) parts of the lake. The greatest ecological risk probability calculated by the PRA model was found for Pyr (1.55%), followed by Ant (7.07 × 10−2%), Fla (2.21 × 10−2%), Phe (9.25 × 10−6%), Nap (1.01 × 10−5%), Flo (1.16 × 10−14%) and Ace (2.86 × 10−16%). The same order of ecological risks calculated by the two models was found for the studied PAH compounds. The toxicity data might be the primary source of the ecological risk uncertainties, as indicated by the greater values of coefficients of variation (CV) for the toxicity. This study concluded that the combinations of multiple indicators based on the SSD and PRA models for the ecological risk assessment are necessary to provide more general information on the spatial variations and the probabilities of potential ecological risks of the individual and multiple congeners of PAHs. 相似文献

Taihu Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in China. The lake is very shallow with a mean depth of 1.9 m and an area of 2428 km2. This is the first time that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon concentrations in the surface sediments of Taihu Lake have been analyzed. A distinctive spatial distribution of PAHs was observed. Sediments from Lake Wulihu and Meiliang Bay (sites 1–5) had significantly higher PAH concentrations (858–5260 g kg–1 dw) than any other area of Taihu Lake. These high PAH levels were associated with the input of untreated and partially treated domestic and industrial sewage from Wuxi, Changzhou, Wujin and other cities. Special PAH ratios, such as phenanthrene/anthracene and fluoranthene/pyrene, were calculated to evaluate the relative importance of different origins. The data confirmed a relatively high level of petrogenic contamination in sites 1–5 (mainly sewage discharge and the river runoff). The other samples were further from the sources of pollution and have relatively low PAH concentrations (410–768 g kg–1 dw). The sources of PAHs in these sites (6–13) were characterized by combustion-derived PAH contamination associated with atmospheric deposition. In addition, effects range low (ERL) and effects range median (ERM) guidelines (Long et al., 1995) were used to estimate the potential of adverse effects resulting from PAH contamination in Taihu Lake sediments. The results indicated that some sites in the northern part of the lake had levels of PAH that exceeded the ERL value.
