Limb asymmetry is a known factor for increased ACL injury risk. These asymmetries are normally observed during in vivo testing. Prior studies have developed in vitro testing methodologies driven by in vivo kinematics to investigate knee mechanics relative to ACL injury. The objective of this study was to determine if mechanical side-to-side asymmetries persist in contralateral pairs during in vitro simulation testing. In vivo kinematics were recorded for male and female drop vertical jump and sidestep cutting tasks. The recorded kinematics were used to robotically simulate the motions on 7 contralateral pairs of cadaveric lower extremities specimens. ACL and MCL force, torque, and strains were recorded and analyzed for differences between contralateral pairs. There was a general lack of mechanical differences between limb sides. Adduction peak torque for the male sidestep cut movement was significantly different between limb sides (p=0.04). However, this is consistent with ACL injury mechanics in that movement in the frontal plane (abduction/adduction) increases injury risk and it is possible loading differences in this plane may have resulted from tolerances within the setup process. The findings of this study indicate that contralateral knee joints were representative of each other during biomechanical in vitro tests. In future cadaveric robotic simulations, contralateral limbs can be used interchangeably. In addition, direct comparisons of the structural behaviors of isolated conditions for contralateral knee joints can be performed.  相似文献

The role played by anatomical factors in ACL injury remains elusive. In this study, objective methods were used to characterize ACL volume, tibial slopes and notch geometry from ACL-injured and matched-control subjects. The study tested four hypotheses: (1) the medial tibial plateau slope is steeper posteriorly in the injured group compared to the non-injured group, (2) the lateral tibial plateau slope is steeper posteriorly in the injured group compared to the non-injured group, (3) the femoral intercondylar notch dimensions are smaller in the injured group compared to the non-injured group and (4) the ACL volume, tibial plateau slopes and intercondylar notch dimensions are all independent of each other. Fifty-four subjects were divided into two groups, those who had suffered a non-contact ACL injury and those who still had two healthy ACLs, matched to the injured subjects by gender, age, height and weight. The lateral tibial plateaus in the uninjured contralateral knees of the injured subjects had a significantly steeper posterior slope (1.8° vs. ?0.3°), a factor that potentially contributed to the ACL injury in the opposite knee. The intercondylar notch dimensions were found to be smaller in the injured subjects, potentially putting the ACL at risk of impingement, and intercondylar notch volume was correlated to ACL volume (r=0.58). Discriminant analysis showed that the notch width at the inlet was the best single predictor of ACL injury.  相似文献

Understanding in vivo joint mechanics during dynamic activity is crucial for revealing mechanisms of injury and disease development. To this end, laboratories have utilized computed tomography (CT) to create 3-dimensional (3D) models of bone, which are then registered to high-speed biplanar radiographic data captured during movement in order to measure in vivo joint kinematics. In the present study, we describe a system for measuring dynamic joint mechanics using 3D surface models of the joint created from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) registered to high-speed biplanar radiographs using a novel automatic registration algorithm. The use of MRI allows for modeling of both bony and soft tissue structures. Specifically, the attachment site footprints of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on the femur and tibia can be modeled, allowing for measurement of dynamic ACL deformation. In the present study, we demonstrate the precision of this system by tracking the motion of a cadaveric porcine knee joint. We then utilize this system to quantify in vivo ACL deformation during gait in four healthy volunteers.  相似文献

Our previous studies used tibial compression overload to induce anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in mice, while others have applied similar or greater compressive magnitudes without injury. The causes of these differences in injury threshold are not known. In this study, we compared knee injury thresholds using a “prone configuration” and a “supine configuration” that differed with respect to hip, knee, and ankle flexion, and utilized different fixtures to stabilize the knee. Right limbs of female and male C57BL/6 mice were loaded using the prone configuration, while left limbs were loaded using the supine configuration. Mice underwent progressive loading from 2 to 20 N, or cyclic loading at 9 N or 14 N (n = 9–11/sex/loading method). Progressive loading with the prone configuration resulted in ACL rupture at an average of 10.2 ± 0.9 N for females and 11.4 ± 0.7 N for males. In contrast, progressive loading with the supine configuration resulted in ACL rupture in only 36% of female mice and 50% of male mice. Cyclic loading with the prone configuration resulted in ACL rupture after 15 ± 8 cycles for females and 24 ± 27 cycles for males at 9 N, and always during the first cycle for both sexes at 14 N. In contrast, cyclic loading with the supine configuration was able to complete 1,200 cycles at 9 N without injury for both sexes, and an average of 45 ± 41 cycles for females and 49 ± 25 cycles for males at 14 N before ACL rupture. These results show that tibial compression configurations can strongly affect knee injury thresholds during loading.  相似文献

Although various intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture have been identified, the exact aetiology of the injury is not yet fully understood. Type III collagen is an important factor in the repair of connective tissue, and certain gene polymorphisms may impair the tensile strength. The aim of this study was to examine the association of the COL3A1 rs1800255 polymorphism with ACL rupture in Polish male recreational skiers. A total of 321 male Polish recreational skiers were recruited for this study; 138 had surgically diagnosed primary ACL ruptures (ACL-injured group) and 183 were apparently healthy male skiers (control group – CON) who had no self-reported history of ligament or tendon injury. Both groups had a comparable level of exposure to ACL injury. Genomic DNA was extracted from the oral epithelial cells. All samples were genotyped on a real-time polymerase chain reaction instrument. The genotype distribution in the ACL-injured group was significantly different than in CON (respectively: AA=10.1 vs 2.2%, AG=22.5 vs 36.1, GG=67.4 vs 61.8%; p=0.0087). The AA vs AG+GG genotype of COL3A1 (odds ratio (OR)=5.05; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.62-15.71, p=0.003) was significantly overrepresented in the ACL-injured group compared with CON. The frequency of the A allele was higher in the ACL-injured group (21.4%) compared with CON (20.2%), but the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.72). This study revealed an association between the COL3A1 rs1800255 polymorphism and ACL ruptures in Polish skiers.  相似文献

Ovarian follicles ≥2 mm were studied in 22 Holstein heifers by daily ultrasound examinations. Data were partitioned by right vs. left ovary and corpus luteum bearing ovary vs. the contralateral ovary. There were significantly more (P < 0.03) follicles 4–6 mm, > 13mm and total ≥2 mm in the right ovary, regardless of the presence of a corpus luteum. Significantly more (P < 0.05) follicles 2–3 mm, > 13 mm and total ≥2 mm were observed in the ovary bearing the corpus luteum. Interactions between day and corpus luteum appeared to be due to a greater number of follicles in the ovary bearing the corpus luteum during the first part of the interovulatory interval. There was also a day by right side vs. left side interaction for the number of follicles > 13 mm. Interpretation of the interactions was that the presence of a corpus luteum was conducive to the development of more anovulatory diestrous follicles > 12 mm. However, as regression of the corpus luteum progressed, there was an apparent proclivity for preovulatory follicular development in the right ovary. There was no apparent pattern of alternating sides of ovulation or of alternating sides of development of anovulatory diestrous follicles and preovulatory follicles in heifers observed for more than one interovulatory interval. There was not a significant difference in the maximum diameter attained by the anovulatory diestrous follicle or preovulatory follicle between ovaries ipsilateral or contralateral to the corpus luteum; however, the maximum diameter attained by the preovulatory follicle was greater (P < 0.05) than that attained by the anovulatory diestrous follicle.  相似文献

Controlling dynamic interactions between the lower limb and ground is important for skilled locomotion and may influence injury risk in athletes. It is well known that female athletes sustain anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears at higher rates than male athletes, and exhibit lower extremity biomechanics thought to increase injury risk during sport maneuvers. The purpose of this study was to examine whether lower extremity dexterity (LED) – the ability to dynamically control endpoint force magnitude and direction as quantified by compressing an unstable spring with the lower limb at submaximal forces – is a potential contributing factor to the “at-risk” movement behavior exhibited by female athletes. We tested this hypothesis by comparing LED-test performance and single-limb drop jump biomechanics between 14 female and 14 male high school soccer players. We found that female athletes exhibited reduced LED-test performance (p=0.001) and higher limb stiffness during landing (p=0.008) calculated on average within 51 ms of foot contact. Females also exhibited higher coactivation at the ankle (p=0.001) and knee (p=0.02) before landing. No sex differences in sagittal plane joint angles and center of mass velocity at foot contact were observed. Collectively, our results raise the possibility that the higher leg stiffness observed in females during landing is an anticipatory behavior due in part to reduced lower extremity dexterity. The reduced lower extremity dexterity and compensatory stiffening strategy may contribute to the heightened risk of ACL injury in this population.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if lower-limb dominance is a potential etiologic factor in noncontact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. A multicenter retrospective case analysis was performed. In each of the participating centers, patients were questioned to confirm a noncontact ACL injury and to determine lower-limb dominance. Three hundred and two subjects (149 males and 153 females) who presented with unilateral noncontact ACL tears participated in the study. The relationships between limb dominance, side of injury, and gender were analyzed. There was no significant correlation between the side of injury and the dominant limb for kicking (p = 0.30). There was no significant gender effect of the relationship between side of injury and dominant limb (p = 0.36). When assessing gender types and side of ACL tears, females showed a strong trend toward tearing the left ACL more frequently than the right (p = 0.06). No such trend existed for males. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant relationship between lower-limb dominance and the likelihood of sustaining a noncontact ACL tear. However, the strong trend toward females tearing their left ACLs more often than their right ACLs warrants further investigation to determine what neuromuscular asymmetries may exist between the right and left lower limbs.  相似文献

Background

Change in left ventricular end-systolic volume (∆LVESV) is the most frequently used surrogate marker in measuring response to cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). We investigated whether ∆LVESV is the best measure to discriminate between a favourable and unfavourable outcome and whether this is equally applicable to non-ischaemic and ischaemic cardiomyopathy.

Methods

205 CRT patients (age 65 ± 12 years, 69 % men) were included. At baseline and 6 months echocardiographic studies, exercise testing and laboratory measurements were performed. CRT response was assessed by: ∆LVESV, ∆LV ejection fraction (LVEF), ∆ interventricular mechanical delay, ∆VO2 peak, ∆VE/VCO2, ∆BNP, ∆creatinine, ∆NYHA, and ∆QRS. These were correlated to the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) between 6 and 24 months.

Results

MACE occurred in 19 % of the patients (non-ischaemic: 13 %, ischaemic: 24 %). ∆LVESV remained the only surrogate marker for CRT response for the total population and patients with non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy, showing areas under the curve (AUC) of 0.69 and 0.850, respectively. For ischaemic cardiomyopathy, ∆BNP was the best surrogate marker showing an AUC of 0.66.

Conclusion

∆LVESV is an excellent surrogate marker measuring CRT response concerning long-term outcome for non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy. ∆LVESV is not suitable for ischaemic cardiomyopathy in which measuring CRT response remains difficult.  相似文献

This study tested the hypotheses that in patients with a successful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, the internal–external rotation, varus–valgus, and knee flexion position of reconstructed knees would be different from uninjured contralateral knees during walking. Twenty-six subjects with unilateral ACL reconstructions (avg 31 years, 1.7 m, 68 kg, 15 female, 24 months past reconstruction) and no other history of serious lower limb injury walked at a self-selected speed in the gait laboratory, with the uninjured contralateral knee as a matched control. Kinematic measurements of tibiofemoral motion were made using a previously-described point-cluster technique. Repeated-measures ANOVA (α=0.017) was used to compare ACL-reconstructed knees to their contralateral knees at four distinct points during the stance phase of walking. An offset towards external tibial rotation in ACL-reconstructed knees was maintained over all time points (95%CI 2.3±1.3°). Twenty-two out of twenty-six individuals experienced an average external tibial rotation offset throughout stance phase. Varus–valgus rotation and knee flexion were not significantly different between reconstructed and contralateral knees. These findings show that differences in tibial rotation during walking exist in ACL reconstructed knees compared to healthy contralateral knees, providing a potential explanation why these patients are at higher risk of knee osteoarthritis in the long-term.  相似文献

Evidence thatl-glutamate is a neurotransmitter of corticofugal fibers was sought by measuring changes in several biochemical markers of neurotransmitter function in discrete regions of spinal cord after ablation of sensorimotor cortex in monkeys. One and five weeks after unilateral cortical ablation, samples from six areas of spinal cord (ventral, lateral and dorsal regions of the left and right sides) were analysed for choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity and contents of amino acid transmitter candidates-glutamic acid (Glu), aspartic acid (Asp), glycine (Gly), taurine (Tau) and -aminobutyric acid (GABA). During one to five weeks after unilateral cortical ablation of the monkey, prolonged hemiplegia in the contralateral side was observed. Histological examination of the spinal cord 5 weeks after unilateral (left) cortical ablation showed no apparent change in either control (ipsilateral, left) or affected (contralateral, right) sides of the cord as examined by the Klüver-Barrera method. The ChAT activity as a cholinergic marker was scarcely changed in any region of either left (control) or right (affected) side of the spinal cord at one and five weeks after unilateral (left side) ablation of the motor cortex. Amino acid levels in each region of the spinal cord were not significantly changed one week after unilateral ablation of the motor cortex. However, a significant decrease of Glu content was observed in the lateral column of the affected (right) side compared to the control (left) side of cervical and lumbar cord five weeks after cortical ablation of the left motor area. No concomitant alterations of other amino acids were detected. These data strongly suggest thatl-Glu is a neurotransmitter for corticofugal pyramidal tract fibers to anterior horn secondary neurons related to motor control activity in monkey spinal cord.  相似文献

Noxious stimulation of the skin with either chemical, electrical or heat stimuli leads to the development of primary hyperalgesia at the site of injury, and to secondary hyperalgesia in normal skin surrounding the injury. Secondary hyperalgesia is inducible in most individuals and is attributed to central neuronal sensitization. Some individuals develop large areas of secondary hyperalgesia (high-sensitization responders), while others develop small areas (low-sensitization responders). The magnitude of each area is reproducible within individuals, and can be regarded as a phenotypic characteristic. To study differences in the propensity to develop central sensitization we examined differences in brain activity and anatomy according to individual phenotypical expression of secondary hyperalgesia by magnetic resonance imaging. Forty healthy volunteers received a first-degree burn-injury (47°C, 7 min, 9 cm2) on the non-dominant lower-leg. Areas of secondary hyperalgesia were assessed 100 min after the injury. We measured neuronal activation by recording blood-oxygen-level-dependent-signals (BOLD-signals) during mechanical noxious stimulation before burn injury and in both primary and secondary hyperalgesia areas after burn-injury. In addition, T1-weighted images were used to measure differences in gray-matter density in cortical and subcortical regions of the brain. We found significant differences in neuronal activity between high- and low-sensitization responders at baseline (before application of the burn-injury) (p < 0.05). After the burn-injury, we found significant differences between responders during noxious stimulation of both primary (p < 0.01) and secondary hyperalgesia (p ≤ 0.04) skin areas. A decreased volume of the right (p = 0.001) and left caudate nucleus (p = 0.01) was detected in high-sensitization responders in comparison to low-sensitization responders. These findings suggest that brain-structure and neuronal activation to noxious stimulation differs according to secondary hyperalgesia phenotype. This indicates differences in central sensitization according to phenotype, which may have predictive value on the susceptibility to development of high-intensity acute and persistent pain.  相似文献

Knee instability following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture compromises function and increases risk of injury to the cartilage and menisci. To understand the biomechanical function of the ACL, previous studies have primarily reported the net change in tibial position in response to multiplanar torques, which generate knee instability. In contrast, we retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 13 consecutively tested cadaveric knees and found distinct motion patterns, defined as the motion of the tibia as it translates and rotates from its unloaded, initial position to its loaded, final position. Specifically, ACL-sectioned knees either subluxated anteriorly under valgus torque (VL-subluxating) (5 knees) or under a combination of valgus and internal rotational torques (VL/IR-subluxating) (8 knees), which were applied at 15 and 30° flexion using a robotic manipulator. The purpose of this study was to identify differences between these knees that could be driving the two distinct motion patterns. Therefore, we asked whether parameters of bony geometry and tibiofemoral laxity (known risk factors of non-contact ACL injury) as well as in situ ACL force, when it was intact, differentiate knees in these two groups. VL-subluxating knees exhibited greater sagittal slope of the lateral tibia by 3.6 ± 2.4° (p = 0.003); less change in anterior laxity after ACL-sectioning during a simulated Lachman test by 3.2 ± 3.2 mm (p = 0.006); and, at the peak applied valgus torque (no internal rotation torque), higher posteriorly directed, in situ ACL force by 13.4 ± 11.3 N and 12.0 ± 11.6 N at 15° and 30° of flexion, respectively (both p ≤ 0.03). These results may suggest that subgroups of knees depend more on their ACL to control lateral tibial subluxation in response to uniplanar valgus and multiplanar valgus and internal rotation torques as mediated by anterior laxity and bony morphology.  相似文献

Hypothalamus is the highest center and the main crossroad of numerous homeostatic regulatory pathways including reproduction and energy metabolism. Previous reports indicate that some of these functions may be driven by the synchronized but distinct functioning of the left and right hypothalamic sides. However, the nature of interplay between the hemispheres with regard to distinct hypothalamic functions is still unclear. Here we investigated the metabolic asymmetry between the left and right hypothalamic sides of ovariectomized female rats by measuring mitochondrial respiration rates, a parameter that reflects the intensity of cell and tissue metabolism. Ovariectomized (saline injected) and ovariectomized+estrogen injected animals were fed ad libitum or fasted to determine 1) the contribution of estrogen to metabolic asymmetry of hypothalamus; and 2) whether the hypothalamic asymmetry is modulated by the satiety state. Results show that estrogen-priming significantly increased both the proportion of animals with detected hypothalamic lateralization and the degree of metabolic difference between the hypothalamic sides causing a right-sided dominance during state 3 mitochondrial respiration (St3) in ad libitum fed animals. After 24 hours of fasting, lateralization in St3 values was clearly maintained; however, instead of the observed right-sided dominance that was detected in ad libitum fed animals here appeared in form of either right- or left-sidedness. In conclusion, our results revealed estrogen- and satiety state-dependent metabolic differences between the two hypothalamic hemispheres in female rats showing that the hypothalamic hemispheres drive the reproductive and satiety state related functions in an asymmetric manner.  相似文献

This study aims to analyze the biomechanical difference between the two legs of male badminton players when they land on one leg, thereby providing some guidance for preventing sports injury. Ten male badminton players were selected as the subjects. They did the single-leg landing movement successfully three times. The kinematic data were obtained by the Vicon infrared high-speed motion capture system. The kinetic data were obtained by the KISTLER three-dimensional forcing measuring platform. The data were processed and analyzed. The center of gravity of the right leg on the X and Y axes were 0.25 ± 0.05 and 0.21 ± 0.04 m, respectively, which were lower than that of the left leg (p < 0.05). At the moment of landing by a single leg, the hip angle of the left and right legs was 164.78 ± 6.12° and 156.29 ± 6.89°, respectively (p < 0.05), the hip joint speed of the left and right legs was 2.21 ± 0.32 and 1.98 ± 0.31 m/s, respectively (p < 0.05), the knee joint speed of the left and right legs was 2.51 ± 0.21 and 2.21 ± 0.21 m/s, respectively (p < 0.05). Although there was no significant difference in the range of joint motion, the motion range of the right leg was larger than that of the left leg, and the buffering time of the knee joint of the right leg was also significantly less than that of the left leg. The comparison of the kinetic data demonstrated that the ground reaction force (GRF), peak vertical ground reaction force (PVGRF), and lower limb stiffness of the right leg were significantly smaller than those of the left leg, and the time to peak force was greater than that of the left leg (p < 0.05). The injury risk of the left leg is greater than that of the right leg when the athlete land on a single leg. In the process of training, the athlete should strengthen the stability training of two legs, especially the left leg, in order to reduce sports injury.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to perform a comprehensive geometric, densitometric, biomechanical, and statistical analysis of paired femurs for an adult population over a wide age range using three imaging modalities to quantify the departure from symmetry in size, bone mineral density, and cross-sectional structural rigidities.Femur measurements were obtained from 20 pairs of cadaveric femurs. Dimensions of these anatomic sites were measured using calipers directly on the bone and plain radiographs. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to measure bone mineral density. Bone mineral content and axial and bending rigidities were determined from the CT imaging. No differences were observed between the geometric measurements, DXA based bone mineral density and axial and bending rigidities of left and right femurs (P>0.05 for all cases). Left and right proximal femurs are not significantly different based on geometric, densitometric, and structural rigidity measurements. However, absolute left–right differences for individual patients can be substantial. When using the contralateral femur as a control, the number of femur pairs required to assess significant changes in anatomic dimensions and structural properties induced by a tumor, infection, fracture, or implanted device can range from 3 to 165 pairs depending on the desired effect size or sensitivity (5% or 10% difference). This information is important both for femoral arthroplasty implant design and the use of the contralateral femur as an intra-subject control for clinical assessment and research studies. In addition, our statistical analysis provides sample size estimates for planning future orthopedic research studies.  相似文献

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder characterized by the relentless pursuit to lose weight, mostly through self-starvation, and a distorted body image. AN tends to begin during adolescence among women. However, the underlying neural mechanisms related to AN remain unclear. Using voxel-based morphometry based on magnetic resonance imaging scans, we investigated whether the presence of AN was associated with discernible changes in brain morphology. Participants were 20 un-medicated, right-handed patients with early-onset AN and 14 healthy control subjects. Group differences in gray matter volume (GMV) were assessed using high-resolution, T1-weighted, volumetric magnetic resonance imaging datasets (3T Trio scanner; Siemens AG) and analyzed after controlling for age and total GMV, which was decreased in the bilateral inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) (left IFG: FWE corrected, p < 0.05; right IFG: uncorrected, p < 0.05) of patients with AN. The GMV in the bilateral IFG correlated significantly with current age (left IFG: r = -.481, p < .05; right IFG: r = -.601, p < .01) and was limited to the AN group. We speculate that decreased IFG volume might lead to deficits in executive functioning or inhibitory control within neural reward systems. Precocious or unbalanced neurological trimming within this particular region might be an important factor for the pathogenesis of AN onset.  相似文献

The deformation of the lung during inspiration and expiration involves regional variations in volume change and orientational preferences. Studies have reported techniques for measuring the displacement field in the lung based on imaging or image registration. However, means of interpreting all the information in the displacement field in a physiologically relevant manner is lacking. We propose three indices of lung deformation that are determinable from the displacement field: the Jacobian--a measure of volume change, the anisotropic deformation index--a measure of the magnitude of directional preference in volume change and a slab-rod index--a measure of the nature of directional preference in volume change. To demonstrate the utility of these indices, they were determined for six human subjects using deformable image registration on static CT images, registered from FRC to TLC. Volume change was elevated in the inferior-dorsal region as should be expected for breathing in the supine position. The anisotropic deformation index was elevated in the inferior region owing to proximity to the diaphragm and in the lobar fissures owing to sliding. Vessel regions in the lung had a significantly rod-like deformation compared to the whole lung. Compared to upper lobes, lower lobes exhibited significantly greater volume change (19.4% and 21.3% greater in the right and left lungs on average; p<0.005) and anisotropy in deformation (26.3% and 21.8% greater in the right and left lungs on average; p<0.05) with remarkable consistency across subjects. The developed deformation indices lend themselves to exhaustive and physiologically intuitive interpretations of the displacement fields in the lung determined through image-registration techniques or finite element simulations.  相似文献

Greater hamstring musculotendinous stiffness is associated with lesser ACL loading mechanisms. Stiffness is enhanced via training, but previous investigations evaluated tendon rather than musculotendinous stiffness, and none involved the hamstrings. We evaluated the effects of isometric and isotonic training on hamstring stiffness and ACL loading mechanisms. Thirty-six healthy volunteers were randomly assigned to isometric, isotonic, and control groups. Isometric and isotonic groups completed 6 weeks of training designed to enhance hamstring stiffness. Stiffness, anterior tibial translation, and landing biomechanics were measured prior to and following the interventions. Hamstring stiffness increased significantly with isometric training (15.7%; p = 0.006), but not in the isotonic (13.5%; p = 0.089) or control (0.4%; p = 0.942) groups. ACL loading mechanisms changed in manners consistent with lesser loading, but these changes were not statistically significant. These findings suggest that isometric training may be an important addition to ACL injury prevention programs. The lack of significant changes in ACL loading mechanisms and effects of isotonic training were likely due to the small sample sizes per group and limited intervention duration. Future research using larger sample sizes and longer interventions is necessary to determine the effects of enhancing hamstring stiffness on ACL loading and injury risk.  相似文献

Normal rats rotate (turn in circles) at night and in response to drugs (e.g. d-amphetamine) during the day. Rats with known circling biases were injected with [1,2-3H]-deoxy-d-glucose, decapitated and glucose utilization was assessed in several brain structures. Most structures showed evidence of functional brain asymmetry. Asymmetries were of three different kinds: (1) a difference in activity between sides of the brain contralateral and ipsilateral to the direction of rotation (midbrain, striatum); (2) a difference in activity between left and right sides (frontal cortex, hippocampus); and (3) an absolute difference in activity between sides that was correlated to the rate of either rotation (thalamus, hypothalamus) or random movement (cerebellum). Amphetamine, administered 15 minutes before a deoxyglucose injection in other rats, altered some asymmetries (striatum, frontal cortex, hippocampus) but not others (midbrain, thalamus, hypothalamus, cerebellum). Different asymmetries appear to be organized along different dimensions in both the rat and human brains.  相似文献
