The purpose of the present study was to examine the influence of activation capabilities on the electromyography (EMGRMS) and mechanomyography amplitude (MMGRMS)–force relationships of the vastus lateralis (VL) and rectus femoris (RF). Thirteen men (mean ± SD; age = 22 ± 3 year) performed nine submaximal contractions (10–90% maximal voluntary contraction [MVC]) with the interpolated twitch technique performed during a separate contraction at 90% MVC to calculate percent voluntary activation (%VA). Nine participants with >90% VA were categorized into the high-activated group with the remaining categorized into the moderate-activated group. Slopes (b terms) were calculated from the log-transformed EMGRMS and MMGRMS–force relationships. The b terms (collapsed across the VL and RF) for the EMGRMS–force relationships were greater for the high- (1.29 ± 0.31) than the moderate-activated (1.10 ± 0.20) group. In contrast, there were no differences in the b terms for the MMGRMS–force relationships between the high- and moderate-activated groups. For the EMGRMS and MMGRMS–force relationships, the b terms were greater for the RF (1.38 ± 0.30, 0.81 ± 0.20) than the VL (1.08 ± 0.19, 0.60 ± 0.13) collapsed across groups. The b terms from the EMGRMS–force relationships, but not the MMGRMS–force relationships, reflected differences in %VA.  相似文献

IntroductionThe purpose of this study was to examine possible correlations between skinfold thicknesses and the a terms from the log-transformed electromyographic (EMGRMS) and mechanomyographic amplitude (MMGRMS)-force relationships, EMG M-Waves, and MMG gross lateral movements (GLM).MethodsForty healthy subjects performed a 6-s isometric ramp contraction from 5% to 85% of their maximal voluntary contraction with EMG and MMG sensors placed on the vastus lateralis (VL) and rectus femoris (RF). A single electrical stimulus was applied to the femoral nerve to record the EMG M-waves and MMG GLMs. Skinfold thickness was assessed at the site of each electrode. Pearson’s product correlation coefficients were calculated comparing skinfold thicknesses with the a terms from the log-transformed EMGRMS-and MMGRMS-force relationships, EMG M-waves, and MMG GLMs.ResultsThere were no significant cor1relations (p > 0.05) between the a terms and skinfold thicknesses for the RF and VL from the EMGRMS and MMGRMS-force relationships. However, there were significant correlations (p < 0.05) between skinfold thicknesses and the EMG M-waves and MMG GLMs for the RF (r = −0.521, −0.376) and VL (r = −0.479, −0.484).DiscussionRelationships were only present between skinfold thickness and the amplitudes of the EMG and MMG signals during the non-voluntary muscle actions.  相似文献

This study examined the log-transformed mechanomyographic (MMGRMS) and electromyographic (EMGRMS) amplitude vs. force relationships for aerobically-trained (AT), resistance-trained (RT), and sedentary (SED) individuals. Subjects performed isometric ramp contractions from 5% to 90% maximal voluntary contraction. Muscle biopsies were collected and thigh skinfolds, MMG and EMG were recorded from the vastus lateralis muscle. Linear regression models were fit to the log-transformed EMGRMS and MMGRMS vs. force relationships. The slope (b coefficient) and the antilog of the y-intercept (a coefficient) were calculated. The AT group had the highest percentage of type I fiber area, the RT group had the highest percentage of type IIa fiber area, and the SED group had the highest percentage of type IIx fiber area. The a coefficients were higher for the AT group than the RT and SED groups in both the MMGRMS and EMGRMS vs. force relationships, whereas the b coefficients were lower for the AT group than the RT and SED groups only in the MMGRMS vs. force relationship. The group differences among the a coefficients may have reflected subcutaneous fat acting as a filter thereby reducing EMGRMS and MMGRMS. The lower b coefficients for the AT group in the MMGRMS patterns may have reflected fiber area-related differences in motor unit activation strategies.  相似文献

This study examined correlations between type I percent myosin heavy chain isoform content (%MHC) and mechanomyographic amplitude (MMGRMS) during isometric muscle actions. Fifteen (age = 21.63 ± 2.39) participants performed 40% and 70% maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) of the leg extensors that included increasing, steady force, and decreasing segments. Muscle biopsies were collected and MMG was recorded from the vastus lateralis. Linear regressions were fit to the natural-log transformed MMGRMS–force relationships (increasing and decreasing segments) and MMGRMS was selected at the targeted force level during the steady force segment. Correlations were calculated among type I%MHC and the b (slopes) terms from the MMGRMS–force relationships and MMGRMS at the targeted force. For the 40% MVC, correlations were significant (P < 0.02) between type I%MHC and the b terms from the increasing (r = −0.804) and decreasing (r = −0.568) segments, and MMGRMS from the steady force segment (r = −0.606). Type I%MHC was only correlated with MMGRMS during the steady force segment (P = 0.044, r = −0.525) during the 70% MVC. Higher type I%MHC reduced acceleration in MMGRMS (b terms) during the 40% MVC and the amplitude during the steady force segments. The surface MMG signal recorded during a moderate intensity contraction provided insight on the contractile properties of the VL in vivo.  相似文献

Residual force enhancement (RFE) and force depression (FD) refer to an increased or decreased force following an active lengthening or shortening contraction, respectively, relative to the isometric force produced at the same activation level and muscle length. Our intent was to determine if EMG characteristics differed in the RFE or FD states compared with a purely isometric reference contraction for maximal and submaximal voluntary activation of the adductor pollicis muscle. Quantifying these alterations to EMG in history-dependent states allows for more accurate modeling approaches for movement control in the future. For maximal voluntary contractions (MVC), RFE was 6–15% (P < 0.001) and FD was 12–19% (P < 0.001). The median frequency of the EMG was not different between RFE, FD and isometric reference contractions for the 100% and 40% MVC intensities (P > 0.05). However, root mean square EMG (EMGRMS) amplitude for the submaximal contractions was higher in the FD and lower in the RFE state, respectively (P < 0.05). For maximal contractions, EMGRMS was lower for the FD state but was the same for the RFE state compared to the isometric reference contractions (P > 0.05). Neuromuscular efficiency (NME; force/EMG) was lower in the force depressed state and higher in the force enhanced state (P < 0.05) compared to the isometric reference contractions. EMG spectral properties were not altered between the force-enhanced and depressed states relative to the isometric reference contractions, while EMG amplitude measures were.  相似文献

This investigation was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of stretch–shortening cycling (SSCEFF) in upper-limb extensor muscles while cross-country skiing using the double-poling technique (DP). To this end, SSCEFF was analyzed in relation to DP velocity and performance. Eleven elite cross-country skiers performed an incremental test to determine maximal DP velocity (Vmax). Thereafter, cycle characteristics, elbow joint kinematics and poling forces were monitored on a treadmill while skiing at two sub-maximal and racing velocity (85% of Vmax). The average EMG activities of the triceps brachii and latissimus dorsi muscles were determined during the flexion and extension sub-phases of the poling cycle (EMGFLEX, EMGEXT), as well as prior to pole plant (EMGPRE). SSCEFF was defined as the ratio of aEMGFLEX to aEMGEXT. EMGPRE and EMGFLEX increased with velocity for both muscles (P < 0.01), as did SSCEFF (from 0.9 ± 0.3 to 1.3 ± 0.5 for the triceps brachii and from 0.9 ± 0.4 to 1.5 ± 0.5 for the latissimus dorsi) and poling force (from 253 ± 33 to 290 ± 36 N; P < 0.05). Furthermore, SSCEFF was positively correlated to Vmax, to EMGPRE and EMGFLEX (P < 0.05). The neuromuscular adaptations made at higher velocities, when more poling force must be applied to the ground, exert a major influence on the DP performance of elite cross-country skiers.  相似文献

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of a resistance training program based on the electromyographic fatigue threshold (EMGFT, defined as the highest exercise intensity performed without EMG alterations), on the EMG amplitude (root mean square, RMS) and frequency (median frequency, MF) values for biceps brachii (BB), brachioradialis (BR), triceps brachii (TB) and multifidus (MT). Twenty healthy male subjects, (training group [TG], n = 10; control group [CG], n = 10), firstly performed isometric contractions, and after this, dynamic biceps curl at four different loads to determine the EMGFT. The TG training program used the BB EMGFT value (8 weeks, 2 sessions/week, 3 exhaustive bouts/session, 2 min rest between bouts). No significant differences were found for the isometric force after the training. The linear regression slopes of the RMS with time during the biceps curl presented significant decrease after training for the BB, BR and TB muscles. For the MT muscle, the slope and MF intercept values changed with training. The training program based on the EMGFT influenced EMG the amplitude more than EMG frequency, possibly related to the recruitment patterns of the muscles, although the trunk extensor muscles presented changes in the frequency parameter, showing adaptation to the training program.  相似文献

A relationship exists between muscles of the lumbar spine and those of the lower extremity where the quadriceps become more inhibited after lumbar paraspinal. The purpose of this experiment was to compare surface electromyography (sEMG) total frequency content after lumbar paraspinal fatiguing exercise. Scope: 50 subjects performed fatiguing lumbar extension exercise indexed by downward shifts in median frequency calculated from lumbar paraspinal sEMG signal. Before and after each exercise set we recorded maximal, isometric knee extension torque and quadriceps central activation ratio (QI) using the superimposed burst technique while recording vastus lateralis sEMG. We calculated total frequency content of the sEMG signal (fEMGTOTAL) as the area of the quadriceps sEMG frequency spectrum. Quadriceps fEMGTOTAL decreased from baseline following the first and second exercise sets. There was no significant change in quadriceps sEMG median frequency among baseline and post-exercise measures. The change in fEMGTOTAL was correlated with the change in QI following the first (r = ?0.41, P = 0.003) and second (r = ?0.32, P = 0.02) exercise sets. Conclusion: Quadriceps fEMGTOTAL decreased following fatiguing lumbar extension exercise, in the absence of a significant change in quadriceps median frequency.  相似文献

Objectives:To examine maximal strength and fatigability of the knee extensors, and mechanomyographic amplitude (MMGRMS)–force relationships of the vastus lateralis (VL) during repetitive muscle actions for 5 aerobically-(AT), 5 resistance-trained-(RT), and 5 sedentary (SED) individuals. Methods:Participants performed maximal voluntary contractions before (MVCPRE) and after (MVCPOST) attempting 20 isometric trapezoidal muscle actions at 50% MVCPRE. MMG was recorded from the VL. b terms (slopes) were calculated from the natural log-transformed MMGRMS-force relationships for each participant (increasing and decreasing segments). MMGRMS was averaged during steady force. Results:RT had greater MVCPRE (P<0.001) and MVCPOST (P=0.001–0.004) than AT and SED. Only AT completed 20 muscle actions and exhibited no decrease in MVCPOST (P=0.149). The b terms were greater for RT than AT during the increasing segment of the first contraction (P=0.001) and decreasing segment of the last contraction (P=0.033). The b terms were also greater for RT (P=0.006) during the increasing than decreasing segment for the first contraction. MMGRMS during steady force was greater during the last contraction when collapsed across training status (P=0.021).Conclusion:Knee extensor MVC and fatigability, and motor unit control strategies for the VL during a series of repetitive contractions were influenced by chronic training status.  相似文献

In human milk fat (HMF), palmitic acid (20–30%), the major saturated fatty acid, is mostly esterified at the sn-2 position of triacylglycerols, while unsaturated fatty acids are at the sn-1,3 positions, conversely to that occurring in vegetable oils. This study aims at the production of HMF substitutes by enzyme-catalyzed interesterification of tripalmitin with (i) oleic acid (system I) or (ii) omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 PUFA) (system II) in solvent-free media. Interesterification activity and batch operational stability of commercial immobilized lipases from Rhizomucor miehei (Lipozyme RM IM), Thermomyces lanuginosa (Lipozyme TL IM) and Candida antarctica (Novozym 435) from Novozymes, DK, and Candida parapsilosis lipase/acyltransferase immobilized on Accurel MP 1000 were evaluated. After 24-h reaction at 60 °C, molar incorporation of oleic acid was about 27% for all the commercial lipases tested and 9% with C. parapsilosis enzyme. Concerning omega-3 PUFA, the highest incorporations were observed with Novozym 435 (21.6%) and Lipozyme RM IM (20%), in contrast with C. parapsilosis enzyme (8.5%) and Lipozyme TL IM (8.2%). In system I, Lipozyme RM IM maintained its activity for 10 repeated 23-h batches while for Lipozyme TL IM, Novozym 435 and C. parapsilosis enzyme, linear (half-life time, t1/2 = 154 h), series-type (t1/2 = 253 h) and first-order (t1/2 = 34.5 h) deactivations were respectively observed. In system II, Lipozyme RM IM showed linear deactivation (t1/2 = 276 h), while Novozym 435 (t1/2 = 322 h) and C. parapsilosis enzyme (t1/2 = 127 h), presented series-type deactivation. Both activity and stability of the biocatalysts depended on the acyl donor used.  相似文献

The present study investigated force–velocity and force–power relationships of bilateral and unilateral knee-hip extension movement in young and elderly women. Twelve healthy young (age, 19–31 yr) and 12 healthy elderly (age, 60–82 yr) women performed bilateral and unilateral knee-hip extension movements on the dynamometer against loads controlled by the servo system. Under the isotonic force condition, force–velocity relationships were measured. The maximum isometric force (Fmax), unloaded velocity (Vmax) and power output (Pmax) of the movements were calculated from extrapolating force–velocity and force–power relationships. Fmax and Pmax of bilateral and unilateral knee-hip extension movements were 20–30% lower in elderly than in young women. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in Vmax between young and elderly women and between bilateral and unilateral movements. Bilateral deficit was larger as the generation of force was larger in both young and elderly women. Also, bilateral deficit of Fmax and Pmax were not different between young and elderly women. The results were that lower maximum power output of bilateral and unilateral leg multi-joint movements in elderly women did not depend on the intrinsic shortening velocity of muscle action, but largely on reduction in force generating capacity. This suggests the importance of preventing a loss of force generating capacity of muscles during leg multi-joint movements in elderly women.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper was to compare the effects of different data reduction procedures on the values of variables characterizing the time pattern of trapezius muscle activity during full work shifts. Surface electromyography (EMG) of the right and left upper trapezius muscles were obtained from 40 young subjects in different occupations, mainly electricians, hairdressers and students. The target EMG variables were gap frequency, muscle rest, and the number and duration of episodes with sustained muscle activity (from 0.13 s to 30 min as minimum duration). These variables were derived from the EMG recordings using different Root Mean Square (RMS) windows (from 0.13 to 6.38 s), and discrimination levels between “activity” and “rest” (0.5%, 1% and 2% of maximal EMG).The results give basis for practical suggestions for EMG analyses of full work shifts. For most variables, a discrimination level of 0.5% EMGmax showed to be preferable. The time proportion of muscle rest and sustained muscle activity should, in general, be preferred over the corresponding frequency measures. Sustained muscle activity should be calculated using a RMS window between 1 and 3 s, and preferably be stated in terms of variables describing time proportions of activity. Uninterrupted activity episodes longer than 10 min proved not to be a useful variable due to limited occurrence in many work shifts.  相似文献

The harmful effects of the 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine (l-dopa) in Mucuna pruriens (Velvet bean) seeds have limited its use as a protein supplement for monogastrics and humans. Little is known about the extent of metabolism of Mucuna l-dopa in ruminants or its accumulation in ruminant tissues consumed as food by humans. This study aimed to determine if replacing soybean meal (SB) with Mucuna increases concentrations of l-dopa in rumen fluid, blood and muscle tissue of lambs. Twenty-seven RM lambs (RM; initial body weight, BW = 33.8 ± 5.44 kg) and 12 Florida Native (FN; initial BW = 24.9 ± 8.63 kg) lambs were assigned to four treatments and fed a basal diet of coastal bermudagrass hay, corn grain, and liquid molasses for 42 (FN) or 49 days (RM) and then slaughtered. Dietary supplements were formulated by substituting 0 (SB), 330 (Lo), 670 (Med) or at least 1000 (Hi) g/kg of SB with rolled Mucuna seeds (l-dopa, 24 g/kg dry matter, DM). Body weight was measured weekly and carcass characteristics and concentrations of l-dopa in rumen fluid, blood and the sterno-mandibularis muscle were measured at slaughter when concentrations of blood urea N, glucose, haptoglobin and cerruloplasmin were also measured. Lambs fed SB had higher (P<0.05) average daily gain than those fed Mucuna (0.20 versus 0.15 kg/day for RM; 0.21 versus 0.14 kg/day for FN). However, concentrate protein source did not affect dressing and concentrations of blood urea N, or blood glucose. Feeding the Hi diet versus the SB diet did not increase concentrations of blood cerruloplasmin, or l-dopa or concentrations of l-dopa metabolites in blood. No l-dopa was found in the ruminal fluid of the lambs and l-dopa concentrations in the sterno-mandibularis muscle were low (i.e., <5 ng l-dopa/g), and unaffected (P>0.05) by diet. Ingested Mucuna l-dopa was extensively metabolized in lambs, and did not accumulate to toxic levels in muscle tissues.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of ageing and training on muscle fibre conduction velocity (MFCV) and cardiorespiratory response during incremental cycling exercise. Eight young (YT; 24 ± 5 yrs) and eight older (OT; 64 ± 3 yrs) cyclists, together with eight young (YU; 27 ± 4 yrs) and eight older (OU; 63 ± 2 yrs) untrained individuals underwent to an incremental maximal test on a cycle ergometer. Ventilatory threshold (VT), respiratory compensation point (RCP) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) were identified and MFCV recorded from the vastus lateralis muscle using surface electromyography with linear arrays electrodes. In YT MFCV increased with the exercise intensity, reaching a peak of 4.99 ± 1.02 [m/s] at VT. Thereafter, and up to VO2max, MFCV declined. In YU MFCV showed a similar trend although the peak [4.55 ± 0.53 m/s] was observed, at 75% of VO2max an intensity higher than VT (66% of VO2max). In both YT and YU MFCV did not decline until RPC, which occurred at 78% VO2max in YU and at 92% VO2max (P < 0.01) in YT. Differently from young individuals, MFCV in older subjects did not increase with exercise intensity. Moreover, maximal MFCV in OU was significantly lower [3.53 ± 0.40 m/s;] than that of YT (P < 0.005) and YU (P < 0.05).The present study shows that, especially in young individuals, MFCV reflects cardiorespiratory response during incremental dynamic cyclic exercise and hence can be used to investigate motor unit recruitment strategies.  相似文献

BackgroundTo assess the existence of association between neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the risk of sarcopenia in COVID-19 patients.MethodsA retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted in a university hospital with patients with an active COVID-19 infection admitted to the nursing ward or intensive care unit (ICU) between September to December 2020. Sarcopenia risk was assessed using the Strength, Assistance for walking, Rise from a chair, Climb stairs and Falls (SARC-F). Biochemical analyses were assessed by circulating of C-reactive protein, D-dimer, neutrophils, lymphocytes count and NLR. Sixty-eight patients were evaluated and divided into tertiles of NLR values and the association between NLR and sarcopenia risk were tested using the linear regression analyses and p < 0.05 were considered as significant.ResultsSixty-eight patients were evaluated and divided in NLR tertiles being the 1st (men = 52.2%; 71.1 ± 9.0 y; NLR: 1.1–3.85), 2nd (women = 78.3%; 73.2 ± 9.1 y; NLR: 3.9–6.0) and 3rd (men = 72.7%; 71.7 ± 10.4 y; NLR: 6.5–20.0). There was a difference between the tertiles in relation to the first to the biochemical parameters of total neutrophils count (p = 0.001), C-reactive protein (p = 0.012), and D-dimer (p = 0.012). However, no difference was found in linear regression analysis between tertiles of NLR and SARC-F, if in total sample (p = 0.054) or divided by sex, if men (p = 0.369) or women (p = 0.064).ConclusionIn elderly patients hospitalized with COVID-19, we do not find an association between the risk of sarcopenia and NLR.  相似文献

The Hoffman reflex (H-reflex), indicating alpha-motoneuron pool activity, has been shown to be task – and in resting conditions – age dependent. How aging affects H-reflex activity during explosive movements is not clear at present. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of aging on H-reflexes during drop jumps, and its possible role in drop jump performance. Ten young (26.8 ± 2.7 years) and twenty elderly (64.2 ± 2.7 years) subjects participated in the study. Maximal drop jump performance and soleus H-reflex response (H/M jump) 20 ms after ground contact were measured in a sledge ergometer. Maximal H-reflex, maximal M-wave, Hmax/Mmax-ratio and H-reflex excitability curves were measured during standing rest. Although in young the H-reflex response (Hmax/Mmax) was 6.5% higher during relaxed standing and 19.7% higher during drop jumps (H jump/M jump) than in the elderly group, these differences were not statistically significant. In drop jumps, the elderly subjects had lower jumping height (30.4%, p < 0.001), longer braking time (32.4%, p < 0.01), lower push-off force (18.0%, p < 0.05) and longer push-off time (31.0% p < 0.01). H jump/M jump correlated with the average push-off force (r = 0.833, p < 0.05) and with push-off time (r = ?0.857, p < 0.01) in young but not in the elderly. Correlations between H-reflex response and jumping parameters in young may indicate different jumping and activation strategies in drop jumps. However, it does not fully explain age related differences in jumping performance, since age related differences in H-reflex activity were non-significant.  相似文献

This study investigated age-associated changes to protein synthesis and degradation pathways in the quadriceps muscles of male C57BL/6J mice at 5 ages, between 4 and 24 months (m). Sarcopenia was evident by 18 m and was accompanied by hyper-phosphorylation of S6K1, indicating increased mTORC1 signaling. Proteasomal and autophagosomal degradation pathways were also impacted by aging. In the 1% NP40 insoluble protein fraction, the abundance of MuRF1 increased at 24 m, while p62 increased at 15 m, and remained elevated at older ages. In addition, we investigated how protein synthesis and degradation pathways are modulated by fasting in young (4 m) and old (24 m) muscles, and showed that old mice respond to fasting less robustly compared with young. Overnight fasting for 16 h caused de-phosphorylation of AKT and molecules downstream of mTORC1 (S6K1, rpS6 and 4E-BP1) in young, but not old muscles. A longer time of fasting (24 h) was required to reduce phosphorylation of these molecules in old mice. Induction of MuRF1 and Fbxo32 mRNA was also more robust in young compared with old muscles following fasting for 16 h. In addition, a 16 h fast reduced ULK1 phosphorylation at the mTORC1 specific site Ser757 only in young muscles. The striking accumulation of insoluble p62 protein in muscles of all old male mice (fed or fasted), suggests age-related dysregulation of autophagy and protein aggregation. These data provide an insight into the mechanisms of metabolic responses that affect protein homeostasis in old skeletal muscles, with applications to design of clinical interventions that target sarcopenia.  相似文献

Tensiomyography is a non-invasive method of neuromuscular assessment used to measure muscle action characteristics, muscle tone, and muscle fiber type, and provides information on acute and chronic responses of muscle to different training loads. The aims of the present study were: to analyse differences in muscle response and mechanical characteristics of two major muscles of the lower extremity in a large group of Spanish soccer players according to playing position, and to provide group norms against which clinical findings may be compared. Data were collected from 78 professional soccer players (age 26.6 ± 4.4 years; height: 179.2 ± 5.3 cm; body mass: 75.8 ± 5.3 kg). Tensiomyography was recorded from the rectus femoris (RF) and biceps femoris (BF) muscles after 2 days without take part in any strenuous exercise or training. Five tensiomyographic parameters were analyzed: maximal displacement (Dm), contraction time (Tc), sustain time (Ts), delay time (Td), and half-relaxation time (Tr). A good to excellent intra-session reliability was found for all contractile parameters (ICC ranged from 0.78 to 0.95). No significant differences between players of any position were observed in absolute values of BF. However, significant differences were observed for Tc, Tr and Ts between the different playing positions on RF (P < 0.05, effect size ranged from 1.3 to 1.6). Professional soccer players showed muscles with ability to rapidly generate force during contractions. The neuromuscular profile provided could help in identifying the normative data that are important for the different positions in order to optimize the training and recovery process of each individual player.  相似文献
