Three experiments were carried out with Belgian white-blue bulls housed in tie stalls. They received maize silage in the first trial and maize silage supplemented with a restricted amount of potatoes in two other trials. Besides the basal feed an appropriate concentrate was given at 7.5 g per kg liveweight per day. In Experiments I and II half the animals received 150 mg avoparcin per kg concentrate. In Experiment III, three concentrates were administered, containing 0, 75 and 150 mg avoparcin per kg.For the three trials, daily gain amounted to 1.07 and 1.08 kg; 1.11 and 1.07 kg; and 1.11, 1.14 and 1.13 kg, respectively, for the control and avoparcin-fed animals. Treatment differences were not significant. Daily feed intake was depressed from 75.6 to 73.3 g; 75.9 to 71.9 g; and from 75.3 to 72.9 and 71.4 g dry matter per kg W0.75, respectively. Avoparcin improved dry matter consumption per kg gain by 4% in Experiment I, 3% in Experiment II and 6 and 7% in Experiment III. Differences in intake were significant only in Experiment III (P<0.05). Carcass parameters did not differ significantly and meat quality characteristics were mostly very similar.  相似文献

Normal range for scrotal circumference in Australian beef bulls was established using more than 300,000 measurements of breed, management group, age, liveweight, and scrotal circumference. The data used were derived from Australian bull breeders and two large research projects in northern Australia. Most bulls were within 250 to 750 kg liveweight and 300 to 750 days of age. The differences between breeds and variances within breeds were higher when scrotal circumference was predicted from age rather than liveweight, because of variance in growth rates. The average standard deviation for predicted scrotal circumference from liveweight and age was 25 and 30 mm, respectively. Scrotal circumference by liveweight relationships have a similar pattern across all breeds, except in Waygu, with a 50 to 70 mm range in average scrotal circumference at liveweights between 250 and 750 kg. Temperate breed bulls tended to have higher scrotal circumference at the same liveweight than tropically adapted breeds. Five groupings of common beef breeds in Australian were identified, within which there were similar predictions of scrotal circumference from liveweight. It was concluded that liveweight and breed are required to identify whether scrotal circumference is within normal range for Australian beef bulls that experience a wide range of nutritional conditions.  相似文献

Two feeding experiments were conducted in which lambs were given a basal diet of barley straw, supplemented with urea and minerals. The aim of the experiments was to increase lamb performance by (i) supplementation of the diet with protein meals that were largely undegraded in the rumen, (ii) treating the barley straw with anhydrous ammonia to increase its digestibility, or (iii) a combination of both.In Experiment 1, lambs were given the basal diet supplemented with 0, 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 or 360 g heat-treated protein-meal/kg straw. At the 300 g/kg level of supplementation, the protein pellet increased liveweight gain by 82 g/day, intake of barley straw by 110 g/day, and wool growth by 3.3 g/day, in comparison with unsupplemented lambs. In Experiment 2, untreated barley-straw or barley straw treated with anhydrous ammonia (4% w/w) was given to growing lambs. Each diet was supplemented (g/kg straw diet) with 100, 200 or 300 of two heat-treated protein-meals. Ammoniation of the barley straw increased dry matter (DM) digestibility in vitro from 49 to 57%, and hemicellulose content was reduced by 20%. Total N content of the straw was increased from 4.6 to 9.8 gN/kg DM by ammoniation, 65% of the increased N being potentially degradable in the rumen. As a result of ammoniation, digestible dry-matter intake of lambs was increased by 60 g DM/day and liveweight gain increased by 15 g/day.There was no significant difference between the two protein supplements with respect to either total feed intake or liveweight gain. Liveweight gain was significantly increased by both supplements (71, 106 and 125 g/day for each level of supplementation, respectively), but neither supplement had a significant effect on the intake of barley straw.Supplementation of a low-protein, low digestible diet of barley straw with a pelleted protein-meal considerably increased liveweight gain of growing lambs and maintained straw intake. By comparison, treatment of barley straw with anhydrous ammonia increased its digestibility, but had only a minor effect on lamb performance.  相似文献

Testes from 47 juvenile Swamp buffalo bulls were examined for puberty and sexual maturity histologically and daily sperm production per gram of testis parenchyma was determined by enumeration of elongated spermatids in homogenates of testis parenchyma. Puberty was defined as the attainment of a daily sperm production per gram of testis parenchyma >0.5 x 10(6). In most bulls, puberty is attained by 24 mo of age, when scrotal circumference (SC) is approximately 16 cm, and liveweight exceeds 135 kg. Sexual maturity was defined as the attainment of adult levels of daily sperm production per gram of testis parenchyma (14 x 10(6)). In most bulls, this occurs at 30 to 33 mo of age, when SC is in the 17-to 20-cm range, and liveweight generally exceeds 250 kg. There was marked individual variation in age, liveweight and SC at both puberty and sexual maturity.  相似文献

A group of Bokoloji bulls (n=36), consisting of 18 young bulls (12 to 18 mo old) and 18 old bulls (24 to 30 mo old) were used to study the effects of feed restriction and realimentation on reproductive function. The bulls were placed either on a low (L). medium (M) or high (H) plane of nutrition during the 3 treatment periods. At the low and medium feeding levels, the animals received approximately 25 and 45%, respectively, of the intake of the bulls on the high plane diet. All the bulls were fed a low (L) plane of nutrition for 90 d in the first treatment period. The 3 treatments were designated as LL, LM and LH for the mid-period, and as LLH, LMH and LHH for the final period, according to the prescribed level of feeding. Body measurements and scrotal circumference were taken for all bulls before slaughter. A total of 18 bulls was slaughtered at the end of the mid-period, while the remaining 18 bulls were slaughtered at the end of the final period. Testicular weights as well as gonadal and epididymal sperm reserves were determined. At the end of the mid period, the bulls on a high plane of nutrition had significantly (P<0.05) higher live weights and chest girths than bulls on the medium and low planes of nutrition. Gonadal sperm/spermatid reserves of 5.2 x 10(9) and epididymal sperm reserves of 2.4 x 10(9) in bulls on the high plane of nutrition were significantly (P<0.05) higher than the sperm reserves for the bulls on either the low or the medium plane of nutrition. At the end of the final period, ho significant differences existed among the LHH, LMH and LLH treatments in liveweight, chest girth, scrotal circumference and sperm reserves (P>0.05). It is concluded that bulls which have undergone feed restriction for 90 d are capable of regaining their body growth and reproductive function if such bulls are placed on an adequate plane of nutrition.  相似文献

In two trials, pigs were given lucerne juice (LJ) as the only protein supplement from 20–90 kg liveweight. The effects of reducing the mineral supplementation of the meal given with LJ and of increasing water intake were studied. In Trial 1, a total of 45 pigs were given either control diets with 7% white-fish meal to 54 kg liveweight and 3.5% thereafter, or diets in which the fish meal provided by the control diets was replaced with LJ. The meal mixture given with LJ was either supplemented or unsupplemented with limestone flour, dicalcium phosphate and salt. In the former case, as in previous studies, the Ca, P and Na content of LJ was not taken into account in formulating the meal mixture; in the latter treatment, taking these into account eliminated the need for supplements. In Trial 2, 18 pigs received LJ at a similar level to that given in Trial 1, together with a meal mixture without the mineral supplements. The water intake of half the pigs was restricted to 2.5 l/kg meal, including the water in LJ. The remaining pigs had, in addition, a supply of water ad libitum. The pigs given LJ in Trial 1 had much lower growth rates and feed: gain ratios than the controls given white-fish meal. A significant, but relatively small, improvement in performance was achieved by giving LJ with the unsupplemented meal rather than with meal supplemented with minerals. In Trial 2, supplying additional water ad libitum significantly increased feed intake. There was a tendency for this to increase daily gain, although the difference was not significant.Despite the improvements due to adjustments of mineral and water intake, the performance of the pigs given LJ as the only protein supplement was unsatisfactory. This may be due to the very high level of potassium in LJ. This cannot be taken into account in formulating a practical basal meal mixture.  相似文献

The effect of including Bacillus ceretis (BC) in a diet of growing bulls was examined. 64 German Holstein bulls (initial body weight: 187 kg) were allotted to one of two treatments (control and BC). The bulls were fed corn silage ad libitum and a restricted amount of concentrate (without BC or with 100 mg BC/kg). They were slaughtered with a final body weight averaging 555 kg. No significant treatment differences were detected for any feedlot performance or carcass characteristics measured. Bulls fed BC had a daily weight gain of 1472 g, control animals of 1425 g. Based on these findings, it may be concluded that under these conditions the inclusion of BC will not significantly improve performance of growing bulls.  相似文献

The combination of linseed and nitrate is known to decrease enteric methane emission in dairy cows but few studies have been carried out in fattening cattle for animal liveweight gain, enteric methane emission, animal health and presence of residues in beef products. To address this gap, 16 young bulls received a control (C) diet between weaning at 9 months and 14 months, then were split into two groups of eight balanced on feed intake, BW gain and methane emission to receive either the C diet or a diet moderately supplemented with extruded linseed and calcium nitrate (LN) for 2 months before being slaughtered. On a dry matter (DM) basis, the C diet contained 70% baled grass silage and 30% concentrate mainly made of maize, wheat and rapeseed meal. In the LN diet, rapeseed meal and a fraction of cereals were replaced by 35% extruded linseed and 6% calcium nitrate; linseed fatty acids and nitrate supply in the LN diet were 1.9% and 1.0%, respectively. Methane emission was measured continuously using the GreenFeed system. Methaemoglobin was determined every week in peripheral blood from bulls receiving the LN diet. Nitrate and nitrite concentrations were determined in rumen, liver and tongue sampled at slaughter. Dry matter intake tended to be lower for LN diet (P=0.10). Body weight gain was lower for LN diet (P=0.01; 1.60 and 1.26 kg/day for C and LN diet, respectively). Daily methane emission was 9% lower (P<0.001) for LN than C diet (249 and 271 g/day, respectively) but methane yield did not differ between diets (24.1 and 23.2 g/kg DM intake for C and LN diet, respectively, P=0.34). Methaemoglobin was under the limit of detection (<2% of total haemoglobin) for most animals and was always lower than 5.6%, suggesting an absence of risk to animal health. Nitrite and nitrate concentrations in offal did not differ between C and LN diets. In conclusion, a moderate supply of linseed and nitrate in bull feed failed to decrease enteric methane yield and impaired bull liveweight gain but without adverse effects for animal health and food safety.  相似文献

Two experiments involving 144 Yorkshire × Lacombe gilts, with an average initial weight of 20 kg, were conducted. In Experiment 1 the gilts were allotted to a control diet containing soya bean meal (SBM) or to diets in which either 50% or all of the supplementary protein was provided by Tower rapeseed meal (RSM). In the second experiment the two diets had either SBM or Tower RSM as the supplementary protein source. In a third diet Tower RSM was supplemented with sufficient lysine to equal the calculated available lysine level of the SBM control diet. In Experiment 1, gilts given the SBM diet grew from 20 to 60 kg significantly faster (P<0.01), and had better feed conversion efficiency (P<0.01), than those given the RSM diets. A 50% replacement of SBM by Tower RSM gave intermediate results. Partial or total replacement of SBM by Tower did not significantly affect the growth rate or feed conversion efficiency of the gilts when growing from 60 to 100 kg liveweight. Serum triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) concentrations of the gilts at 100 kg were lower in pigs fed on the RSM diets but the differences were not significant. In the second experiment, total replacement of SBM by Tower RSM, with or without the addition of lysine, significantly (P<0.001) reduced growth rate and feed conversion efficiency during the growing period (20–60 kg) but did not significantly affect performance during the finishing period (60–90 kg). Serum T3 concentration was not significantly affected by the addition of Tower RSM to the diet but T4 concentrations were significantly reduced (P<0.01). None of the carcass parameters studied were significantly affected by the addition of Tower RSM to the diets.  相似文献

Twenty-seven Boran and 37 Boran x Friesian crossbred bulls were weaned at 6 months of age and randomly assigned to either a dry season supplementary feed containing 16% crude protein or control groups. Data were collected on body weight, wither height and scrotal circumference (SC) at monthly intervals. Bulls were also challenged with 100 mug of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) at 2-month intervals and plasma testosterone responses were determined. Semen was collected at monthly intervals by electroejaculation. Post weaning average daily weight gain was significantly (P<0.001) higher in supplemented than in control groups (302 vs 208 g/day). Scrotal circumference growth rates were also significantly (P<0.001) higher in supplemented than in control bulls (0.38 vs 0.31 mm/day). Bulls fed supplemented diets were younger (430 vs 473 days; P<0.001) and heavier (217 vs 203 kg; P<0.05) and had better semen quality at puberty than the control bulls. There was a trend for larger SC at puberty in supplemented than in control bulls (P=0.06). There were no significant differences in wither height or in testosterone response to GnRH at puberty between supplemented and control bulls. Body and SC growth rates to puberty for Boran and Boran x Friesian bulls were 189 and 321 g/day (P<0.001) and 0.27 and 0.42 mm/day (P<0.01), respectively. Boran bulls were older (513 vs 406 days; P<0.01) and lighter (201 vs 215 kg; P<0.05), and had smaller SC (23.9 vs 26 cm; P<0.01) at puberty than Boran x Friesian bulls. Testosterone responses to GnRH increased (P<0.001) with age and were significantly higher (P<0.05) in supplemented and in Boran x Friesian bulls than in control and Boran bulls. Wither height, testosterone response to GnRH and semen quality at puberty did not differ between breeds. Dry season supplementation improved growth rate and enhanced sexual development and maturity in both Boran and Boran x Friesian bulls, and would be a useful management strategy for enhancing fertility in bulls in the tropics.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of the potential methane reducer fumaric acid on the fattening performance and acid-base balance of growing bulls fed two different silage types as roughage (maize and grass silage). A total of 62 fattening bulls (German Holstein breed, initial body weight: 266 +/- 42 kg), randomly assigned to eight feeding groups, received four levels of fumaric acid (0, 100, 200 or 300 g/d) at each silage type. The daily feed and water intake and the live weight were measured over the whole testing period of 280 days. In blood samples, blood cells and blood gases as a parameter of acid-base status were analysed. Feed and faeces were collected to determine the apparent nutrient digestibility. Five animals from each group fed maize or grass silage, supplemented with 0 g or 300 g fumaric acid, were slaughtered at 580 kg body weight. After slaughter, rumen fluid pH was measured and dressing percentage was calculated. Neither the total feed intake (8.81 +/- 0.07 kg/d) nor the daily weight gain (1277 +/- 24 g/d) was influenced significantly by treatments. Fumaric acid supplementation did not influence the erythrocyte count or the blood gas concentration. The silage type significantly influenced the apparent digestibility of the whole diet. The dressing percentage was slightly higher (p < 0.1) after fumaric acid supplementation. No signs of an incompatibility to fumaric acid on the animals were observed over the whole experimental period. However, it seems to be necessary to conduct more long-term studies with different silage types and addition of organic acids combined with direct measurements of methane.  相似文献

Monensin, an anticoccidial antibiotic, was incorporated into pelleted feed and given to 10-week-old Holstein-Friesian calves at 0.25 mg/kg, 1.0 mg/kg, or 2.0 mg/kg of body weight. Inoculated calves were inoculated by drenching with 500,000 sporulated oocysts of Eimeria bovis. Other calves served as inoculated or uninoculated controls. Observations were recorded on oocyst discharge in the feces, clinical signs, weight gain, food consumption, hemoglobin, packed cell volume, total serum protein, sodium and potassium content of the serum, and differential white cell counts. Calves in the inoculated control group developed severe infections, discharged large numbers of oocysts, developed clinical signs and 1 of 5 died. Uninoculated, untreated control calves were essentially free of coccidia. A few calves in the groups which received monensin developed light infections but none of them had clinical signs of coccidiosis. Calves which received the highest and the lowest dosages of monensin gained weight less rapidly than did the uninoculated controls or the animals which received monensin at 1.0 mg/kg of body weight. Inoculated control calves with severe infections had reduced food intake and a significant reduction in weight which was not regained during the experimental period. The only other significant change in any of the parameters measured was a reduction in the total serum protein of inoculated, nonmedicated control calves. The level returned to normal 5 weeks after clinical signs first appeared.  相似文献

In the first of four experiments five dietary levels of ring-dried blood meal (0, 3.0, 5.9, 8.9 and 11.8%) were used for pigs of 21–70 kg live weight at two levels of feeding (restricted and ad libitum). Pigs receiving either 5.9 or 8.9% blood meal grew more efficiently than pigs receiving either 0 or 11.8%. The feed conversion ratio of pigs given 3.0% blood meal was of intermediate value. There were significant interactions; when feeding was ad libitum, a reduced intake at the higher levels of blood meal resulted in a slower growth rate at the 11.8% level of blood meal, but with restricted feeding, up to 11.8% blood meal could be included without adverse effects on feed intake or growth rate.In the second and third experiments grower pigs fed ad libitum, between 22 and 50 kg live weight, were used to investigate the effects of the addition of a feed flavour or of isoleucine to a diet containing 12% blood meal. Experiment 2 involved two levels of blood meal (0 and 12%) and two levels of a feed flavour (0 and 50 p.p.m.). The feed flavour failed to prevent the reduction in feed intake and growth caused by 12% blood meal. In the third experiment the addition of 0.1% isoleucine to the 12% blood meal diet significantly increased both intake and growth rate but not to the level of a diet containing no blood meal.In Experiment 4 the digestible energy (± SE) content of blood meal was determined to be 20.8 (± 2.15) MJ/kg dry matter.  相似文献

In two separate studies, one with four Hereford-Shorthorn and one with three Zebu x British crossbred bulls, the efficacy of using the testosterone response to gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH; Lutal, Hoechst) to predict differences in reproductive performance was assessed. Young bulls (17 or 29 months of age) selected for low to high (3.1 to 10.3 ng/ml) peak plasma testosterone 2 to 2.5 hours after the intramuscular injection of GnRH (62.5 to 2000 ng/kg LWT) were each later individually joined with groups of 19 to 30 cows in which estrus had been synchronized. In both studies, the rankings of bulls for overall fertility (capable cows pregnant), for libido (estrous cows mounted), and for fertilizing ability (mounted cows pregnant) were in close agreement with rankings for testosterone responses to GnRH. In the Bos indicus bulls rankings for both reproductive performance and testosterone response to GnRH were repeatable when measured at two and four years of age. Other reproductive measurements (semen quality, scrotal circumference, pen-type serving capacity tests) were less reliable predictors of reproductive performance. Measurements of liveweight gains and parasite resistance indicated that bulls superior for these characteristics do not always have satisfactory reproductive performance. These studies suggest that the testosterone response to GnRH could be a useful test to ensure that bulls selected for productive traits have adequate reproductive potential.  相似文献

Two experiments were performed to evaluate Lupinus albus cv. Hamburg as a source of protein for growing pigs. The first was in a factorial design, involving two levels of feeding (restricted and ad libitum) and five isocaloric, isonitrogenous diets (0, 10.3, 20.7 and 31% Hamburg, and 31% Hamburg supplemented with 0.20% synthetic L-lysine). The growth performance of pigs from 22 to 70 kg live weight was unaffected by 10.3% Hamburg replacing soya-bean meal and meat and bone meal, but at higher levels both growth rate and feed conversion efficiency were significantly depressed. Feed intake was not significantly affected by the level of Hamburg, but dressing percentage decreased significantly from 84.3 to 80.2% as the proportion of Hamburg was increased from 0 to 31%. The addition of synthetic lysine to the 31% Hamburg diet improved feed conversion efficiency, but not to the level of the diet containing no Hamburg.Hamburg contained 2100 mg/kg manganese and the effects of levels of manganese from 72 to 1330 mg/kg on pig performance between 20 and 55 kg live weight were studied in the second experiment. Up to 1330 mg/kg manganese in the diet did not affect the growth performance or carcass quality of pigs. In both experiments, the growth performance of pigs given 31 or 33% Hamburg diets, each supplemented with 0.20% synthetic L-lysine, was lower than that of pigs receiving diets without Hamburg. The digestible energy content and alkaloid content of Hamburg were 18.2 (SE ± 0.38) MJ/kg dry matter and 0.018%, respectively.  相似文献

The effects of monensin and progesterone priming on reproductive performance (estrous response, lambing rate and prolificacy) of grazing Boutsiko mountain breed adult and 18-mo.-old ewes at the end of seasonal anestrus were investigated. In Experiment 1 the feed supplement with or without monensin was offered for 21 d after introduction of vasectomized rams (Day 0). Progesterone was administered to the ewes in the respective groups as a single injection at Day -3. Ewes of both age groups were assigned randomly to 1 of 4 treatments: C, C+P, C+M and C+M+P. In Experiment 2 the supplement C or M was offered from Day -26 to Day 21. The treatments consisted of C, C+P and C+M+P. Blood samples were taken 50 h after ram introduction for determination of plasma concentrations of P and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I). There was a greater increase in estrous response at Days 17 to 19 and at Days 0 to 19 when supplementation was offered before rather than after ram introduction in both age groups. In the adult group ewes synchronization of estrus at Days 17 to 19 was significantly increased by administration of monensin (P<0.05) and progesterone (P<0.01) compared with the control group in the first but not the second experiment. The incidence of estrus at Days 17 to 19 or at Days 0 to 19 was highest in the adult groups treated with monensin and progesterone in both experiments. In 18-mo.-old ewes progesterone was effective in synchronizing estrus only in Experiment 2. Mean plasma IGF-I concentrations were increased by monensin treatment (P<0.05) in adult ewes that were at the periovulatory stage at blood sampling time. Correlation coefficients between IGF-I and progesterone concentrations in monensin plus progesterone group adults were -0.715 (P<0.02) and -0.516 (P<0.01), respectively across all treatments. The results suggest that monensin and progesterone priming improved reproductive performance, and the monensin-induced increase in plasma IGF-I levels at the periovulatory stage may be causally related to the ability of ovulatory follicles to develop into functional corpora lutea (CL).  相似文献

Compensatory growth (CG) is a naturally accelerated growth which occurs upon realimentation, following a prior period of dietary restriction. The process is harnessed worldwide as a management practice to reduce feed costs in beef cattle production. The objective of this study was to assess the potential contribution of hepatic cellular mitochondrial capacity to CG through global hepatic oxidative phosphorylation gene expression analyses as well as functional mitochondrial enzyme activity assays. Holstein–Friesian bulls were separated into two groups: (i) restricted feed allowance for 125 days (Period 1) (RES; n = 30) followed by ad-libitum feeding for 55 days (Period 2) or (ii) ad-libitum access to feed throughout (Periods 1 and 2) (ADLIB; n = 30). At the end of each period, 15 animals from each treatment group were slaughtered and hepatic tissue was collected. Tissue samples were subjected to RNAseq and spectrophotometric analysis for the functional assessment of mitochondria. RES and ADLIB groups grew at 0.6 kg/day and 1.9 kg/day, respectively, during Period 1. During Period 2, the RES group underwent CG growing at 2.5 kg/day, with ADLIB animals gaining 1.4 kg/day. Oxidative phosphorylation genes were differentially expressed in response to both dietary restriction and CG. Spectrophotometric assays indicated that mitochondrial abundance was greater in animals undergoing dietary restriction at the end of Period 1 and subsequently reduced during realimentation (P < 0.02). Results indicate that mitochondrial capacity may be enhanced during dietary restriction to more effectively utilize diet-derived nutrients. However, enhanced mitochondrial capacity does not appear to be directly contributing to CG in cattle.  相似文献

Standing and lying bouts of 11 fattening bulls were recorded continuously during two 1-week trials. There were 6 Friesian bulls and 5 double-muscled bulls from the Belgian White-Blue breed. At the start of Trial 1, the Friesian and Belgian White-Blue bulls averaged respectively. Trial 2 started 84 days later when the liveweight was about 100 kg more. The bulls were tied up in a stanchion barn. Standing up and lying down were recorded by an electrical device. The mean lying times per 24 h of the Friesian bulls were 16.52 h in Trial 1 and 16.13 h in Trial 2; the corresponding values for the Belgian White-Blue bulls were 15.77 and 16.82 h. Differences between breeds and between trials were not significant. The variability between the Belgian White-Blue bulls was larger than between the Friesians. The mean number of lying bouts per 24 h ranged from 12.31 to 16.97, the highest value being observed with the double-muscled animals in Trial 2.Resting behaviour was different between the day and the night. From 18.00 to 06.00 h, the lying time ranged from 9.75 to 10.89 h according to group; from 06.00 to 18.00 h, the corresponding values were 5.56 and 6.71 h.The repartition of lying bouts according to their length was not different between trials for the Friesian bulls. The proportions of lying bouts shorter than 15 min and longer than 1 h were on average 7.6 and 59.2%. For the Belgian White-Blue bulls, the repartition was different between trials: the proportions of lying bouts shorter than 15 min were 4.6 and 7.9% in Trials 1 and 2, respectively; those longer than 1 h were 60.6 and 43.6%. The proportions of lying times of long duration (>2 h) and standing times of short duration (<15 min) were higher for the Friesian than for the Belgian White-Blue bulls.  相似文献

Reproductive development was monitored in 13 1 2 Brahman (BX), 20 3 4 BX, 8 1 2 Sahiwal (SX) and 11 3 4 SX crossbred bulls between one and two years of age. Liveweight increased during wet season (0.7 kg/day) and decreased during dry season conditions (-0.25 kg/day). Scrotal circumference (SC) increased from 18.6 to 25.0 cm, but decreased slightly during the later stages of the dry season. First ejaculates containing 50 x 10(6) spermatozoa were obtained from 25% of the bulls at 15.3 months of age and from 84% by two years of age. Sperm motility and morphology showed no consistent pattern, but number of sperm per ejaculate increased and seminal fructose concentrations decreased with advancing age. Significant genotype differences were noted for SC and seminal characteristics. Estimated age and liveweight at puberty were 570, 563, 578 and 542 days, and 251, 265, 247 and 256 kg for 1 2 BX, 3 4 BX, 1 2 SX and 3 4 SX bulls, respectively.  相似文献
