The process of trapping and acceleration of a nonmonoenergetic electron bunch of finite length is investigated analytically in terms of a one-dimensional model, and relevant three-dimensional simulations are performed. The bunch is assumed to be injected into the region of maximum wake wave potential, the injection energy being such that the electron velocities are lower than the wave phase velocity. The study is aimed at clarifying how the spatial and energy parameters of the injected bunch in the trapping and acceleration stages depend on its initial energy spread. Formulas are obtained that describe the change in the bunch length and its energy spread in the course of acceleration. In some important limiting cases, the formulas are simple enough for them to be conveniently used for practical estimates. The injection conditions are discussed under which the electrons of a nonmonoenergetic bunch can be accelerated to high energies and the energy spread of the bunch electrons after acceleration is weakly sensitive to their initial energy spread. The analytical results agree well with the results of numerical simulations.  相似文献

The energy characteristics of an electron bunch accelerated by a wakefield are largely determined by the initial bunch dimensions. Present-day injectors are still incapable of ensuring the initial spatial parameters of the bunches required for their acceleration without increasing the energy spread of the bunch electrons. In connection with this, the possibility is studied of improving the energy characteristics of an accelerated bunch by precompressing it in the longitudinal direction in the stage of trapping by a wakefield. Analytic formulas are derived that describe the one-dimensional dynamics of the spatial and energy characteristics of a short (much shorter than the wakefield wavelength) electron bunch in both the trapping and acceleration stages. The analytical results obtained are shown to agree fairly well with the results from one-dimensional and three-dimensional simulations, provided that the electrons are injected into the region that is optimum for acceleration. The possibility is discussed of forming compressed bunches so as to ensure the high quality of the bunch in the course of its acceleration to high energies.  相似文献

A study is made of a promising method for injecting an electron bunch into an accelerating laser-plasma system. A bunch is injected ahead of the front of a laser pulse generating a wake wave that propagates in a direction collinear with the pulse and has a velocity lower than the pulse group velocity. The influence of the initial nonmonoenergetic character of the bunch on its trapping and acceleration is investigated. By appropriately choosing the laser pulse parameters and the bunch injection energy, it is possible to create such conditions for the trapping of an initially nonmonoenergetic bunch by the wake wave that, over a certain acceleration distance, there will be no energy spread of the bunch due to its initial nonmonoenergetic character, a circumstance that allows compact electron bunches to be accelerated to high energies, with a minimum energy spread.  相似文献

The process of electron trapping by a wake wave excited by a laser pulse in a plasma channel in the case where the electron bunches are injected into the vicinity of the maximum of the wakefield potential at a velocity lower than the wave phase velocity is considered. The mechanism for the formation of a compact electron bunch in the trapping region when only the electrons of the injected bunch that are trapped in the focusing phase mainly undergo the subsequent acceleration in the wakefield is analyzed. The influence of the spatial dimensions of the injected bunch and its energy spread on the length of the trapped electron bunch and the fraction of trapped electrons is studied analytically and numerically. For electron bunches with different ratios of their spatial dimensions to the characteristic dimensions of the wake wave, the influence of the injection energy on the parameters of the high-energy electron bunch trapped and accelerated in the wake-field is studied.  相似文献

The generation of transition radiation in the form of electromagnetic surface waves by a nonrelativistic electron bunch as it crosses the vacuum-semiconductor interface or a thin semiconductor plate in vacuum is investigated. A study is made of a bunch that has the shape of an ellipsoid of revolution, with a uniform charge density distribution over its volume, and moves along the normal to the interface. When the energy dissipation in the semiconductor is taken into account, the spectrum of the transition radiation emitted in the form of surface waves comprises a peak whose width is comparable to its mean frequency. It is shown that, in each of the two cases under consideration, the generation efficiency, defined as the ratio of the radiated energy to the kinetic energy of the bunch electrons, is maximum for a bunch of certain dimensions. The dependence of the radiated energy and of the generation efficiency on the thickness of a thin semiconductor plate is investigated for given bunch dimensions. It is found that the corresponding dependences have a maximum, which can be explained as being due the competition between the two effects: as the plate thickness increases, on the one hand, the region where the radiation is generated becomes larger, so that the radiation power increases, and, on the other hand, the dissipative energy losses become higher.  相似文献

The process of trapping and acceleration of nonmonoenergetic electron bunches by a wake wave excited by a laser pulse in a plasma channel is investigated. The electrons are injected into the vicinity of the maximum of the wakefield potential with a velocity lower than the wave phase velocity. The study is aimed at utilizing specific features of a wakefield with substantially overlapped focusing and accelerating phases for achieving monoenergetic electron acceleration. Conditions are found under which electrons in a finite-length nonmonoenergetic bunch are accelerated to high energies, while the energy spread between them is minimal. The effect of energy grouping of electrons makes it possible to obtain compact high-energy electron bunches with a small energy spread during laser plasma acceleration.  相似文献

The work presents experimental results demonstrating the feasibility of autoresonance acceleration of electrons in a long mirror trap with a reverse magnetic field. It is shown that gyromagnetic autoresonance results in the formation of a plasma bunch with average electron energy of several hundred keV, which is confined for a long time in the trap. The results of computer simulations of the regime of reverse gyromagnetic autoresonance agree well with the experimental data.  相似文献

The trapping and subsequent efficient surfatron acceleration of weakly relativistic protons by an electromagnetic wave propagating across an external magnetic field in plasma at the heliosphere periphery is considered. The problem is reduced to analysis of a second-order time-dependent nonlinear equation for the wave phase on the particle trajectory. The conditions of proton trapping by the wave, the dynamics of the components of the particle momentum and velocity, the structure of the phase plane, the particle trajectories, and the dependence of the acceleration rate on initial parameters of the problem are analyzed. The asymptotic behavior of the characteristics of accelerated particles for the heliosphere parameters is investigated. The optimum conditions for surfatron acceleration of protons by an electromagnetic wave are discussed. It is demonstrated that the experimentally observed deviation of the spectra of cosmic-ray protons from standard power-law dependences can be caused by the surfatron mechanism. It is shown that protons with initial energies of several GeV can be additionally accelerated in the heliosphere (the region located between the shock front of the solar wind and the heliopause at distances of about 100 astronomical units (a.u.) from the Sun) up to energies on the order of several thousands of GeV. In order to explain the proton spectra in the energy range of ~20–500 GeV, a two-component phenomenological model is proposed. The first component corresponds to the constant (in this energy range) galactic contribution, while the second (variable) component corresponds to the heliospheric contribution, which appears due to the additional acceleration of soft cosmic-ray protons at the heliosphere periphery. Variations in the proton spectra measured on different time scales between 1992 and 2008 in the energy range from several tens to several hundred GeV, as well as the dependence of these spectra on the heliospheric weather, can be explained by surfatron acceleration of protons in the heliosphere.  相似文献

Relativistic beams produced by the VEPP-5 injection complex (Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Division, Russian Academy of Sciences) can be used to generate plasma waves with a longitudinal electric field of 1 GV/m. A part of the electron (or positron) driver bunch is accelerated by this field over a distance of up to 1 m. The main advantage of the proposed design over the previous wakefield acceleration experiments is the beam preparation system capable of compressing bunches to a length of σz = 0.1 mm in the longitudinal direction and producing an optimal longitudinal profile of the beam density. The main parameters of the planned device are as follows: the electron energy at the entrance to the plasma is 510 MeV, the number of particles in the bunch is 2 × 1010, the plasma density is up to 1016 cm?3, the number of accelerated particles is up to 3 × 109, and their energy spread is less than 10%. The physical project of the experiment is presented, and the results of computer simulations of the beam-plasma interaction are described.  相似文献

The equations of motion for a standing multi-segment human model are derived. Output quantity of these equations is the horizontal acceleration of the whole-body centre of mass (CoM). There are three input terms and they can be identified as the three mechanisms by which balance can be maintained: (1) by moving the centre of pressure with respect to the vertical projection of the CoM, (2) by counter-rotating segments around the CoM, and (3) by applying an external force, other than the ground reaction force. For the first two mechanisms the respective contributions to CoM acceleration can be obtained from force plate recordings. This is illustrated by some example data from experiments, which show that the contribution from mechanism 2 can be considerable, e.g. in one-legged standing.  相似文献

The load (force/cross-section) determines the response of muscle power output, force and speed of contraction). The force is the product of the mass by the acceleration, thus the same force is generated by an infinite number of mass and acceleration couples and each one of these couples displays different physical and biological effects. Therefore, the load must be defined both by the mass and by the acceleration. Early muscle investigators were well aware of this situation as it is indicated by the work of Hill on the flexion of the arm against the “heavy fly-wheel”. By making use of a model of sarcomere contraction we show here that the acceleration of the load is the first determinant of the time course of the process of generation of the isometric tension. We also propose that, in order to reproduce the rapid release, it is not necessary to invoke the presence of a distinct elastic element in the contractile machinery. It is sufficient to assume that the stiffness of the same machinery increases with the contractile force.  相似文献

A study is made of the excitation of wake waves by a one-dimensional bunch of charged particles in an electron plasma in the presence of an intense monochromatic pump wave with circular polarization. In the main state (in the absence of a bunch), the interaction between a pump wave and a plasma is described by the Maxwell equations and the nonlinear relativistic hydrodynamic equations for a cold plasma. The excitation of linear waves by a one-dimensional bunch is investigated against a cold plasma background. It is shown that, in a certain range of the parameter values of the bunch, pump wave, and plasma, the amplitude of the excited transverse waves grows as the energy of the bunch particles increases until the relativistic factor of the bunch reaches a certain threshold value above which the transverse wave amplitude becomes essentially independent of the bunch particle energy and grows as the intensity and frequency of the pump wave increase. The amplitude and wavelength of the longitudinal field, which is shown to depend weakly on the energy of the bunch particles, grows with increasing the pump wave intensity.  相似文献

1. Pressure previously measured on the body surface of swimming bluefish were resolved into their backward vectorial components to allow calculation of profile drag. It was 0.18 kg at a speed of 1.8 m/sec. Tangential drag was calculated as if for a thin plate of an area equal to that of the fish. It was 0.08 kg at 1.8 m/sec. Net drag, 0.26 kg, was the sum of profile and tangential drag. 2. Thrust and drag also were calculated from the changes of acceleration measured during steady swimming, assuming that thrust took place only during the acceleration phase, whereas drag occurred during both acceleration and deceleration. This drag was 0.08 kg at a speed of 1.1 m/sec. It is compatible with the drag of 0.26 at 1.8 m/sec calculated from profile and tangential drag provided drag varies as the square of velocity. 3. The force required to produced maximal acceleration was measured during a scare. It was calculated to be 6.9 kg at a peak acceleration of 3 g. 4. The compression strength of th vertebrae was found to be approximately 20 kg per cm2, or roughly three times the force encountered during maximal acceleration. This safety factor of 3 would be reduced when the back was curved, or if opposing groups of muscles were under tension. 5. The finding that a bluefish can accelerate at 3 g and that the vertebral column is strongg enough to withstand this force indicates that the muscles and body structure of a bluefish would be able to withstand the force of gravity if the fish were otherwise equipped for terrestrial life. This fish may have evolved these strengths simultaneously with land animals. It is speculated that other fish may have evolved some degree of strength to overcome inertia and drag during aquatic locomotion, and this evolution may have been a prelude to terrestrial locomotion.  相似文献

Behavioral responses and eye movements of fish during linear acceleration were reviewed. It is known that displacement of otoliths in the inner ear leads to body movements and/or eye movements. On the ground, the utriculus of the vestibular system is stimulated by otolith displacement caused by gravitational and inertial forces during horizontal acceleration of whole body. When the acceleration is imposed on the fish's longitudinal axis, the fish showed nose-down and nose-up posture for tailward and noseward displacement of otolith respectively. These responses were understood that the fish aligned his longitudinal body axis in a plane perpendicular to the direction of resultant force vector acting on the otoliths. When the acceleration was sideward, the fish rolled around his longitudinal body axis so that his back was tilted against the direction in which the inertial force acted on the otoliths. Linear acceleration applied to fish's longitudinal body axis evoked torsional eye movement. Direction of torsion coincided with the direction of acceleration, which compensate the change of resultant force vector produced by linear acceleration and gravity. Torsional movement of left and right eye coordinated with each other. In normal fish, both sinusoidal and rectangular acceleration of 0.1G could evoke clear eye torsion. Though the amplitude of response increased with increasing magnitude of acceleration up to 0.5 G, the torsion angle did not fully compensate the angle calculated from gravity and linear acceleration. Removal of the otolith on one side reduced the response amplitude of both eyes. The torsion angle evoked by rectangular acceleration was smaller than that evoked by sinusoidal acceleration in both normal and unilaterally labyrinthectomized fish. These results suggest that eye torsion of fish include both static and dynamic components.  相似文献

The biomechanical principles underlying the organization of muscle activation patterns during standing balance are poorly understood. The goal of this study was to understand the influence of biomechanical inter-joint coupling on endpoint forces and accelerations induced by the activation of individual muscles during postural tasks. We calculated induced endpoint forces and accelerations of 31 muscles in a 7 degree-of-freedom, three-dimensional model of the cat hindlimb. To test the effects of inter-joint coupling, we systematically immobilized the joints (excluded kinematic degrees of freedom) and evaluated how the endpoint force and acceleration directions changed for each muscle in 7 different conditions. We hypothesized that altered inter-joint coupling due to joint immobilization of remote joints would substantially change the induced directions of endpoint force and acceleration of individual muscles. Our results show that for most muscles crossing the knee or the hip, joint immobilization altered the endpoint force or acceleration direction by more than 90° in the dorsal and sagittal planes. Induced endpoint forces were typically consistent with behaviorally observed forces only when the ankle was immobilized. We then activated a proximal muscle simultaneous with an ankle torque of varying magnitude, which demonstrated that the resulting endpoint force or acceleration direction is modulated by the magnitude of the ankle torque. We argue that this simple manipulation can lend insight into the functional effects of co-activating muscles. We conclude that inter-joint coupling may be an essential biomechanical principle underlying the coordination of proximal and distal muscles to produce functional endpoint actions during motor tasks.  相似文献

The grass layer of African savannas consists of two main vegetation types: grazing lawns, dominated by short, mostly clonally reproducing grasses, and bunch grasslands, dominated by tall bunch grasses. This patchy distribution of vegetation types is mostly created by large herbivores, which selectively feed on the more nutritious lawn grass species. Besides grazing, herbivores trample the soil, thereby causing soil compaction, with possible consequences for water infiltration. This raises two questions: (i) is water more limiting in grazing lawns than in bunch grasslands and (ii) are lawn grasses more drought tolerant than bunch grasses? To study these questions, we compared drought conditions in both lawn and bunch grasslands in a South African savanna. Additionally, in a climate room, we compared the performance of three lawn and three bunch grass species under a control and a water limitation treatment. Thirdly, we investigated whether there are differences between lawn and bunch grasses in traits related to drought tolerance. Our results show that despite large differences in water availability in the field, lawn and bunch grasses did not differ in their growth response to drought. Drought reduced growth of both growth forms equally. However, we found strong intrinsic trait differences between growth forms, with lawn grasses having higher specific root length and relative growth rate and bunch grasses having a higher root:shoot ratio. These results suggest that after drought-induced plant death, lawn grasses might be more capable of recolonizing patches of bare soil.  相似文献

The interaction between charged plasma particles and an electromagnetic wave with a stochastic jumping phase is analyzed by numerical simulations. It is demonstrated that, in the course of interaction, the particle energy can increase by more than one order of magnitude. Optimal conditions for efficient interaction of charged plasma particles with a wave having a stochastically jumping phase are determined. According to the simulation results, substantial acceleration of charged plasma particles by a wave with a stochastically jumping phase takes place both at fixed time intervals between phase jumps and when these intervals are random. The influence of the wave parameters, such as the wave amplitude, the characteristic time interval between phase jumps, and the characteristic magnitude of these jumps, on the acceleration dynamics is analyzed.  相似文献

A mechanism for action of oscillating electric fields on cells   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The biological effects of electromagnetic fields have seriously concerned the scientific community and the public as well in the past decades as more and more evidence has accumulated about the hazardous consequences of so-called "electromagnetic pollution." This theoretical model is based on the simple hypothesis that an oscillating external electric field will exert an oscillating force to each of the free ions that exist on both sides of all plasma membranes and that can move across the membranes through transmembrane proteins. This external oscillating force will cause a forced vibration of each free ion. When the amplitude of the ions' forced vibration transcends some critical value, the oscillating ions can give a false signal for opening or closing channels that are voltage gated (or even mechanically gated), in this way disordering the electrochemical balance of the plasma membrane and consequently the whole cell function.  相似文献

We present a mathematical method for acceleration workspace analysis of cooperating multi-finger robot systems using a model of point-contact with friction. A new unified formulation from dynamic equations of cooperating multi-finger robots is derived considering the force and acceleration relationships between the fingers and the object to be handled. From the dynamic equation, maximum translational and rotational acceleration bounds of an object are calculated under given constraints of contact conditions, configurations of fingers, and bounds on the torques of joint actuators for each finger. Here, the rotational acceleration bounds can be applied as an important manipulability index when the multi-finger robot grasps an object. To verify the proposed method, we used a set of case studies with a simple multi-finger mechanism system. The achievable acceleration boundary in task space can be obtained successfully with the proposed method and the acceleration boundary depends on the configurations of fingers.  相似文献
