A recent bout of high-intensity exercise can alter the balance of aerobic and anaerobic energy provision during subsequent exercise above the lactate threshold (theta(L)). However, it remains uncertain whether such "priming" influences the tolerable duration of subsequent exercise through changes in the parameters of aerobic function [e.g., theta(L), maximum oxygen uptake (Vo(2max))] and/or the hyperbolic power-duration (P-t) relationship [critical power (CP) and the curvature constant (W')]. We therefore studied six men performing cycle ergometry to the limit of tolerance; gas exchange was measured breath-by-breath and arterialized capillary blood [lactate] was measured at designated intervals. On different days, each subject completed 1) an incremental test (15 W/min) for estimation of theta(L) and measurement of the functional gain (DeltaVo(2)/DeltaWR) and Vo(2peak) and 2) four constant-load tests at different work rates (WR) for estimation of CP, W', and Vo(2max). All tests were subsequently repeated with a preceding 6-min supra-CP priming bout and an intervening 2-min 20-W recovery. The hyperbolicity of the P-t relationship was retained postpriming, with no significant difference in CP (241 +/- 39 vs. 242 +/- 36 W, post- vs. prepriming), Vo(2max) (3.97 +/- 0.34 vs. 3.93 +/- 0.38 l/min), DeltaVo(2)/DeltaWR (10.7 +/- 0.3 vs. 11.1 +/- 0.4 ml.min(-1).W(-1)), or the fundamental Vo(2) time constant (25.6 +/- 3.5 vs. 28.3 +/- 5.4 s). W' (10.61 +/- 2.07 vs. 16.13 +/- 2.33 kJ) and the tolerable duration of supra-CP exercise (-33 +/- 11%) were each significantly reduced, despite a less-prominent Vo(2) slow component. These results suggest that, following supra-CP priming, there is either a reduced depletable energy resource or a residual fatigue-metabolite level that leads to the tolerable limit before this resource is fully depleted. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of muscle strengthening exercise using elastic thera-band and aquatic aerobic combined exercise on metabolic syndrome index in elderly with metabolic syndrome. Fifty-four were assigned to muscle strengthening exercise group (n = 19), aquatic aerobic exercise group (n = 19), and combined exercise group (n = 16). The muscle strength exercise, aquatic aerobic exercise and combined exercise were provided three times a week for 12 weeks. Metabolic syndrome indices[Fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and waist circumference] were measured before and after the program. One-way ANOVA, paired t-test and two-way repeated ANOVA were used with the SPSS program for data analysis. There was a significant difference in triglyceride (p < .001), HDL-C (p = .010) and waist circumference (p = .016). Triglyceride and waist circumference was significantly decreased in combined group than muscle strength exercise group and aquatic exercise group. HDL-C was significantly increased in combined group than muscle strength exercise group. The results indicate that combined exercise was more effective in the improvement of dyslipidemia and abdominal obesity. 相似文献

The kinetics of the torque-velocity (T-ω) relationship after aerobic exercise was studied to assess the effect of fatigue on the contractile properties of muscle.
A group of 13 subjects exercised until fatigued on a cycle ergometer, at an intensity which corresponded to 60% of their maximal
aerobic power for 50 min (MAP60%); ten subjects exercised until fatigued at 80% of their maximal aerobic power for 15 min
(MAP80%). Of the subjects 7 exercised at both intensities with at least a 1-week interval between sessions. Pedalling rate
was set at 60 rpm. The T-ω relationship was determined from the velocity data collected during all-out sprints against a 19 N · m braking torque on
the same ergometer, according to a method proposed previously. Maximal theoretical velocity (ω0) and maximal theoretical torque (T
0) were estimated by extrapolation of the linear T-ω relationship. Maximal power (P
max) was calculated from the values of T
0 and ω0 (P
max = 0.25 ω0 T
0). The T-ω relationships were determined before, immediately after and 5 and 10 min after the aerobic exercise. The kinetics of ω0, T
0 and P
max was assumed to express the effects of fatigue on the muscle contractile properties (maximal shortening velocity, maximal
muscle strength and maximal power). Immediately after exercise at MAP60% a 7.8% decrease in T
0 and 8.8% decrease in P
max was seen while the decrease in ω0 was nonsignificant, which suggested that P
max decreased in the main because of a loss in maximal muscle strength. In contrast, MAP80% induced a 8.1% decrease in ω0 and 12.8% decrease in P
max while the decrease in T
0 was nonsignificant, which suggested that the main cause of the decrease in P
max was probably a slowing of maximal shortening velocity. The short recovery time of the T-ω relationship suggests that the causes of the decrease of torque and velocity are processes which recover rapidly.

Exercise training of a muscle group improves local vascular function in subjects with chronic heart failure (CHF). We studied forearm resistance vessel function in 12 patients with CHF in response to an 8-wk exercise program, which specifically excluded forearm exercise, using a crossover design. Forearm blood flow (FBF) was measured using strain-gauge plethysmography. Responses to three dose levels of intra-arterial acetylcholine were significantly augmented after exercise training when analyzed in terms of absolute flows (7.0 +/- 1.8 to 10.9 +/- 2.1 ml x 100 ml(-1) x min(-1) for the highest dose, P < 0.05 by ANOVA), forearm vascular resistance (21.5 +/- 5.0 to 15.3 +/- 3.9 ml x 100 ml forearm(-1) x min(-1), P < 0.01), or FBF ratios (P < 0.01, ANOVA). FBF ratio responses to sodium nitroprusside were also significantly increased after training (P < 0.05, ANOVA). Reactive hyperemic flow significantly increased in both upper limbs after training (27.9 +/- 2.7 to 33.5 +/- 3.1 ml x 100 ml(-1) x min(-1), infused limb; P < 0.05 by paired t-test). Exercise training improves endothelium-dependent and -independent vascular function and peak vasodilator capacity in patients with CHF. These effects on the vasculature are generalized, as they were evident in a vascular bed not directly involved in the exercise stimulus. 相似文献

It has been demonstrated that leptin concentrations in obese patients may be altered by weight loss. We examined the effects of a 9-week aerobic exercise program on serum leptin concentrations in overweight women (20-50% above ideal body mass) under conditions of weight stability. Sixteen overweight women, mean (SE) age 42.75 (1.64) years, comprised the exercise group which adhered to a supervised aerobic exercise program. A graded exercise treadmill test was conducted before and after the exercise program to determine maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) using open-circuit spirometry. The women demonstrated improved aerobic fitness (VO2max increased 12.29%), however, body fat and the body mass index did not change significantly [42.27 (1.35)-41.87 (1.33)%]. Fourteen women, age 40.57 (2.80) years, did not exercise over the same time period and served as a control group. Serum leptin levels were not significantly altered for either the exercise [28.00 (2.13)-31.04 (2.71) ng x ml(-1)] or the control group [33.24 (3.78)-34.69 (3.14) ng x mg(-1)]. The data indicate that 9 weeks of aerobic exercise improves aerobic fitness, but does not affect leptin concentrations in overweight women. 相似文献

The mixed adrenergic agonist, epinephrine (10 micrograms/kg, i.v.), the beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist, propranolol (0.2 mg/kg, i.v.), or the alpha-adrenergic receptor antagonist, phenoxybenzamine (1 mg/kg, i.v.), were administered to sheep immediately before maximal incremental exercise. The effects of each of these drugs on hemoglobin (Hb) concentration during maximal exercise and on maximal exercise performance were investigated. The maximal incremental exercise protocol began at 4.0 km/h and 0% grade and finished at 5.6 km/h and 12% grade, with speed or grade increases every 1.5 minutes. Maximal exercise in control (untreated) sheep caused a mean 42% increase in hematocrit and 44% increase in Hb. This exercise-induced increase in Hb was unaffected by propranolol but was partially blocked by phenoxybenzamine. Epinephrine caused an immediate increase in Hb which abated during the early minutes of exercise and then subsequently increased toward the end of the exercise challenge. Maximum oxygen consumption (VO2) in control sheep was 47.6 +/- 6.7 ml/min per kilogram. Maximum VO2 after epinephrine, 51.6 +/- 8.7 ml/min per kilogram, was not significantly different from control. Maximum VO2 after propranolol and phenoxybenzamine, 35.4 +/- 15.3 and 40.8 +/- 8.2 ml/min per kilogram, respectively, were both significantly less than control exercise (P < 0.05). 相似文献
