Summary Because seed size is often associated with survival and reproduction in plant populations, genetic variation for seed size may be reduced or eliminated by natural selection. To test this hypothesis we assessed genetic sources of variation in seed size in a population ofPhlox drummondii to determine whether genetic differences among seeds influence the size they attain. A diallel cross among 12 plants from a population at Bastrop, Texas, USA allowed us to partition variance in the mass of seeds among several genetic and parental effects. We found no evidence of additive genetic variance or dominance genetic variance for seed mass in the contribution of plants to their offspring. Extranuclear maternal effects accounted for 56% of the variance in seed mass. A small interaction was observed between seed genotype and maternal plant. Results of this study support theory that predicts little genetic variation for traits associated with fitness.  相似文献

Genetic effects and genotype×environment (GE) interaction effects on the cooking quality traits of indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) were analyzed based on a genetic model for quantitative traits of triploid endosperm in cereal crops. Nine cytoplasmic male-sterile lines as females and 5 restoring lines as males were used in an incomplete diallel cross over 2 years. The cooking quality traits studied were observed to be mainly controlled by genetic effects, but GE interaction effects, especially for amylose content (AC) and alkali spreading score (ASS), were also indicated. Among the genetic effects, seed direct effects and maternal effects were the main components of AC and ASS, respectively; cytoplasmic effects were the main components of gel consistency (GC). Among the GE interaction effects, AC and ASS were mainly affected by maternal interaction effects and GC by direct interaction effects. Additive effects and/or additive interaction effects were the main factors controlling the performance of rice cooking quality traits except for GC which was affected by dominant interaction effects. For AC and GC, there were seed heterosis and/or maternal heterosis. The predicated genetic effects indicated that four parents were better than the others in improving the rice cooking quality traits of the progenies. It was shown that genetic heterosis and GE interaction heterosis were important, especially for amylose content trait in early season indica rice.  相似文献

Genetic correlations of nutrient quality traits including lysine, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, valine and threonine contents in rapeseed meal were analysed by the genetic model for quantitative traits of diploid plants using a diallel design with nine parents of Brassica napus L. These results indicated that the genetic correlations of embryo, cytoplasm and/or maternal plant have made different contribution to total genetic correlations of most pairwise nutrient quality traits. The genetic correlations among the amino acids in rapeseed meal were simultaneously controlled by genetic main correlations and genotype × environment (GE) interaction correlations, especially for the maternal dominance correlations. Most components of genetic main correlations and GE interaction correlations for the pairwise traits studied were significantly positive. Some of the pairwise traits had negative genetic correlations, especially between valine and other amino acid contents. Indirect selection for improving the quality traits of rapeseed meal could be expected in rape breeding according to the magnitude and direction of genetic correlation components.  相似文献

Analysis of genetic main effects and genotype×environment (GE) interaction effects for brown rice weight (BRW) at four different filling stages in indica rice ( Oryza sativa L.) was conducted for two-year experimental data by using developmental genetic models and corresponding statistical approaches for quantitative traits of seeds in cereal crops. It was indicated that the genetic main effects and their GE interaction effects of triploid endosperm, cytoplasmic and diploid maternal plant genes were important for BRW at different filling stages of rice, especially for endosperm or maternal additive main effects and their additive interaction effects. Because of the higher additive effects and additive interaction effects for BRW at different filling stages, the better improving effects for this trait could be expected by selection in rice breeding. The results of conditional genetic variance components showed that the new expression of quantitative genes in endosperm and maternal plant for BRW was mostly found at all different filling stages of rice. The gene expression, however, was most active at the early filling stages especially for the first (1-7 d) and the second filling stages (8-14 d after flowering). The phenomena that some genes were spasmodically expressible among filling stages of rice were detected for some genetic effects especially for net cytoplasmic main effects or its interaction effects and net dominance main effects. Predicted genetic effects at different filling stages of rice showed that some parents such as V20 and Zuo 5 were better than others for improving the BRW.  相似文献

采用禾谷类作物种子数量性状的遗传模型,分析了灿型黑米稻品种双列杂交F1和F2种子的粒重,粒长,粒宽和粒长/粒宽等粒形性状的遗传效应及其与米粒中矿质元素Fe,Zn,Mn和P含量的遗传相关性,结果表明:4种粒形性状同时受制于种子直接遗传效应,母体效应和细胞质作用影响,其中种子直接遗传效应比母体效应和细胞质效应的作用更大,且种子直接遗传效应以加性效应占主导,粒重,粒宽和粒长/粒宽的种子直接遗传率较高,杂种早代单粒选择效果较好,粒长的种子直接遗传率和母体遗传率均属中等,较高世代的杂种进行单株选择和单粒选择均有一定效果,4种粒形性状与其米粒中矿质元素Fe,Zn,Mn和P含量表现较强的种子直接加性相关,直接显性相关,细胞质相关,母体加性相关和母体显性相关,在特种稻育种实践中,可以通过粒形性的间接选择,达到改良其矿质元素含量等营养品质性状的目标。  相似文献

水稻精米中大约含有90%的淀粉,因此淀粉的特性对水稻的食味品质有很大的影响.淀粉粘滞性是预测稻米食用、蒸煮和加工品质的重要指标.本研究利用4个细胞质雄性不育系和8个恢复系配置的不完全双列杂交组合来分析淀粉粘滞性指标(崩解值、回复值和消减值)的胚乳、细胞质和母体基因效应及环境互作效应.结果表明在崩解值、回复值和消减值的遗传变异中,遗传主效应方差分量占了64%以上,表明它们主要受遗传主效应控制,同时也受到基因型与环境互作效应的影响.崩解值、回复值和消减值的总遗传率分别为67.8%、79.5%、79.5%,而且普通遗传率占了总遗传率的75%以上,表明对这些性状的早世代选择有效,且在不同环境中选择效果相对稳定.  相似文献

Genetic main effects and genotype x environment (GE) interaction effects for 7 non-essential amino acids in milled rice were analyzed for two year data by using the genetic models based on mixed linear model approaches for quantitative traits of triploid endosperm. Nine cytoplasmic, male sterile lines as females and five restoring lines as males were introduced in a diallel cross in two environments. It was found that the content of non-essential amino acids including Asp, Ser, Glu, Gly and Tyr were mainly controlled by genetic main effects, whereas the content of Ala or Pro was mainly affected by GE effects. In genetic main effects, the cytoplasmic and maternal genetic effects were preponderant for all traits of non-essential amino acids, indicating that selection for improving these traits based on the maternal plant would be more effective than on seeds. The total narrow-sense heritabilities for non-essential amino acids were 70.9-85.9%. By predicating the genetic effects of parents, the total genetic effects from Xieqingzao, V20, Zuo 5 and Zhenshan 97 were mainly negative and these parents would decrease the content of most essential amino acids. Since parents of Zhenan 3, Yinchao 1, T49, 26715, 102 and 1391 had possessed a positive value of most total genetic effects, these parents could be chosen as optimal parents for increasing the content of most non-essential amino acids.  相似文献

A growing body of evidence indicates that phenotypic selection on juvenile traits of both plants and animals may be considerable. Because juvenile traits are typically subject to maternal effects and often have low heritabilities, adaptive responses to natural selection on these traits may seem unlikely. To determine the potential for evolutionary response to selection on juvenile traits of Nemophila menziesii (Hydrophyllaceae), we conducted two quantitative genetic studies. A reciprocal factorial cross, involving 16 parents and 1960 progeny, demonstrated a significant maternal component of variance in seed mass and additive genetic component of variance in germination time. This experiment also suggested that interaction between parents, though small, provides highly significant contributions to the variance of both traits. Such a parental interaction could arise by diverse mechanisms, including dependence of nuclear gene expression on cytoplasmic genotype, but the design of this experiment could not distinguish this from other possible causes, such as effects on progeny phenotype of interaction between the environmental conditions of both parents. The second experiment, spanning three generations with over 11,000 observations, was designed for investigation of the additive genetic variance in maternal effect, assessment of paternal effects, as well as further partitioning of the parental interaction identified in the reciprocal factorial experiment. It yielded no consistent evidence of paternal effects on seed mass, nor of parental interactions. Our inference of such interaction effects from the first experiment was evidently an artifact of failing to account for the substantial variance among fruits within crosses. The maternal effect was found to have a large additive genetic component, accounting for at least 20% of the variation in individual seed mass. This result suggests that there is appreciable potential for response to selection on seed mass through evolution of the maternal effect. We discuss aspects that may nevertheless limit response to individual selection on seed mass, including trade-offs between the size of individual seeds and germination time and between the number of seeds a maternal plant can mature and their mean size.  相似文献

Additive, dominance, and epistasis genetic basis of seed yield per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, and 1000 seed weight in mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) have been examined, using Triple Test Cross (TTC) analysis. The material for TTC test was evaluated in two seasons i.e., kharif (July-October) and spring/summer (March-June), at the research station of the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB), Faisalabad, Pakistan. Epistasis was present significantly for number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod when grown in the spring/summer season (March to June). Partition of epistasis showed that additive x additive ('i' type) interaction was an important component of number of pods per plant, and number of seeds per pod was found to be of both types 'i' type, and additive x dominance, and dominance x dominance ('j' and 'l' type) interactions. This indicated that epistasis might be a non-trivial factor in the inheritance of pods per plant, and seeds per pod in mungbean. The expression of epistasis was influenced differentially by particular genotypes, indicating that a limited number of genotypes may not be sufficient to detect non-allelic interactions for a trait in mungbean. Additive and dominance genetic components were significant for all four traits in kharif season (July to October) but only for seed yield and 1000 seed weight in spring/summer season. This suggests that the genes controlling seed yield per plant, and 1000 seed weight are equally sensitive to the environment. The predominance additive gene action in those traits is not significantly influenced by epistasis, suggesting that improvement of the traits can be achieved through standard selection procedures.  相似文献

Summary Twenty-eight diallel trials over 8 years and two locations were analysed to estimate genetic variances for agronomic characters of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). The data were analysed according to Method 4 and Model I of Griffing (1956). Days to flowering, plant height, and seed size were found to be predominantly under additive inheritance and were highly predictable. Both additive and non-additive genetic components were important for seed yield, number of branches, pods per plant, and seeds per pod. Although both general combining ability (gca) and specific combining ability (sca) varied significantly with generation, components of gca mean squares were invariably much larger than gca x generation interaction components, indicating that either the F1 or the F2 generation can be used to estimate the gca components effectively. Combined diallel analysis of F2s over locations revealed the importance of combining ability x location interactions and emphasized the need for testing over more than one location for the precise estimation of combining ability. The implications of these findings and those reported earlier in the literature on the breeding strategies/methods for the genetic improvement of agronomic characters in chickpea are discussed.ICRISAT journal article no. 1199  相似文献

Summary The genetic basis of seed setting was evaluated in seven clones of alfalfa selected under predominantly self-pollinating conditions. They were hand crossed in all possible combinations. Their compatibility was studied by the percentage of flowers forming pods and number of seeds per pod during crossing. The variances for GCA, SCA and reciprocal effects were significant for percentage of pod set with a narrow sense héritability of 64 %. This suggested maternal influence of clones on percent pod set, controlled primarily by additive genetic components. GCA was the only significant component for number of seeds per pod with a narrow sense heritability of 71%. There were wide differences between the clones in their relative magnitude of GCA, SCA and reciprocal effects for both traits used as compatibility indexes. Performance of the diallel crosses was judged by studying seed yield and its related characters, namely seeds per pod, dry matter per plant, frost resistance, plant vigor and plant height. Although GCA and SCA variances were significant for all characters, reciprocal differences in general were absent. The SCA values were very high as compared to GCA. Narrow sense heritability values were very low while broad sense heritability were much higher. This suggested that almost none of the variation was due to additive genetic components and all the variability is controlled by interactions of a digenic, trigenic and quadrigenic nature and heterzozygosity. Heterosis was evaluated by comparing the seed yield of single crosses with their mid-parent and high-parent, and very high values were observed. Thus selection of better genes may not be feasible and further improvement in selected clones may have to be brought about by utilization of various interactions and heterosis. An attempt was made to find combinations of characters that may be used for the selection of seed yield but none were found to be satisfactory.  相似文献

调查了海岛棉5×4不完全双列杂交实验的3年产量性状资料,运用包括加性、显性、加性×环境互作、显性×环境互作的遗传模型进行条件和非条件的遗传分析.双列杂交的亲本具有不同果枝类型.非条件遗传方差结果表明,总皮棉产量没有检测到显著的非条件加性效应方差.但是铃重、霜前铃数、霜后铃数以及霜前皮棉产量的条件分析结果发现这些性状的加性效应均对总皮棉产量的加性效应有贡献.因此,可通过这些性状改良总皮棉产量的加性效应表现.当某材料产量构成因素的加性贡献率比较高时,选择该材料作为杂交亲本可望获得具有较好总皮棉产量表现的后代.各产量构成因素的显性效应对霜前皮棉产量和总皮棉产量的杂种优势具有较大的贡献率.产量构成因素之间又相互影响.那些能够检测到显著的正向贡献率的性状将为进一步改良目标性状提供可能.本研究结果显示运用条件分析方法不仅能分析原因性状对目标性状的贡献率,还可以分析特定亲本(或组合)的某一性状对该亲本或组合目标性状的作用大小和正负,据此就可以指导某一亲本后代或组合的目标性状的间接选择.这对实际育种中具体组合的选择具有重要的意义.  相似文献

利用包括基因型与环境互作的加性-显性遗传模型,对14个烤烟品种(系)及其配制的41个杂交组合在4个环境下的7个农艺性状表现进行遗传分析。结果表明,株高、节距、腰叶宽主要受加性效应控制,叶数、腰叶长受显性×环境互作效应影响最大,茎围以加性×环境互作效应、显性×环境互作效应为主,产量以加性效应、显性×环境互作效应为主。适应当地生态条件的品种(系)具有较高的正向加性效应。许多组合的显性主效应及在各试验点的显性×环境互作效应在方向上不尽一致,杂交组合的选配宜针对特定的生态环境进行。性状相关分析表明,大多数成对性状的各项相关系数为正值,且多以加性遗传相关为主,可利用株高对产量进行间接选择。

选取5份云南地方香型软米水稻种质资源和6份自育香型软米保持系按5×6不完全双列杂交设计(NCⅡ)配制成30个组合,采用加性-显性-上位性遗传模型,分析云南香型软米11个农艺性状的遗传效应。结果表明,云南香型软米多数农艺性状的遗传主要受加×加上位性效应、加性×环境效应、显性×环境效应的影响,还存在不同程度的加性效应和显性效应,单株产量受基因加性效应、显性效应、加×加上位性效应、加性×环境效应、显性×环境效应的影响;株高、有效穗的遗传率以普通狭义遗传率为主,其他性状的普通狭义遗传率和互作狭义遗传率均达极显著水平;产量构成性状之间存在不同类型和不同程度的遗传相关,多数性状之间以加×加上位性、加性×环境和显性×环境互作效应显著。  相似文献

Directional and stabilizing selection tend to deplete additive genetic variance. On the other hand, genetic variance in traits related to fitness could be retained through polygenic mutation, spatially varying selection, genotype-environment interaction, or antagonistic pleiotropy. Most estimates of genetic variance in fitness-related traits have come from laboratory studies, with few estimates of heritability made under natural conditions, particularly for longer lived organisms. Here I estimated additive genetic variance in life-history characters of a monocarpic herb, Ipomopsis aggregata, that lives for up to a decade. Experimental crosses yielded 229 full-sibships nested within 32 paternal half-sibships. More than 5000 offspring were planted as seeds into natural field sites and were followed in most cases through their entire life cycle. Survival showed substantial additive genetic variance (genetic coefficient of variation ≈ 54%). Small differences at seedling emergence were magnified over time, such that the genetic variability in survival was only detectable by tracking the success of offspring for several years starting from seed. In contrast to survival, reproductive traits such as flower number, seeds per flower, and age at flowering showed little or no genetic variability. Despite relatively high levels of additive genetic variation for some life-history characters, high environmental variance in survival resulted in very low heritabilities (0–9%) for all of these characters. Maternal effects were evident in seed mass and remained strong throughout the lengthy vegetative period. No negative genetic correlations between major components of female fitness were detected. Mean corolla width for a paternal family was, however, negatively correlated with the finite rate of increase based on female fitness. That negative correlation could help to maintain additive genetic variance in the face of strong selection through male function for wide corollas.  相似文献

Summary Thirty line x tester experiments involving diverse chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) germplasm were conducted over 8 years and three locations to determine the nature of the genetic variance for grain yield and related characters, and the effects of generation and environment on these genetic parameters. Days-to-flowering, 100-seed mass, and seeds per pod were predominantly under the control of additive genetic variance, while both additive and non-additive genetic components of variance were important for days-to-maturity, plant height, primary and secondary branches, pods per plant, and seed yield. The F1 and F2 generations were found equally useful in estimating the genetic variances for different characters because the generation did not significantly interact with genetic parameters in the majority of cases. Sites or seasons, on the other hand, showed significant interaction with genetic components of variances; additive variance showed a larger interaction with environments than non-additive variance. This indicated the importance of more than one site and/ or season for unbiased estimation of the genetic components of variance. Genetic effects and genotype by environment (GE) interaction effects for some important agronomic traits of Chinese vegetable mustard were analyzed by using a genetic model including additive, dominance, additive × additive effects and their interaction effects with the environment. Four variations of Chinese vegetable mustard as parental lines and their F1s, F2s were evaluated in two locations. It was revealed that the agronomic traits of Chinese vegetable mustard were mainly controlled by genetic effects except plant weight (PW) and leaf weight (LW) were observed to be more affected by GE interaction effects. Among the genetic effects, additive effects took the main proportion for tiller number (TN), leaf number (LN), leaf breadth (LB) and LW; dominance effects were the main components of PW, leaf length (LL), root weight (RW) and plant height (PH); additive × additive effects were the main components of plant breadth (PB). Among the GE interaction effects, additive × environment interaction effects mainly affected LB, LW and RW, while PW, LL, PH and PB were mainly controlled by dominance × environment interaction effects. Besides, additive × additive × environment interaction was the main factor, which controlled TN and LN of Chinese vegetable mustard. For heterosis analyses, TN, LN, LB and LW of Chinese vegetable mustard showed positive HPM and negative HPB. The other traits showed positive HPM and HPB. Heterosis arising from GE interaction was found to varying degree for different environments. It was shown that genetic heterosis and GE interaction effects were important factors for agronomic traits in Chinese vegetable mustard.  相似文献

Summary Seven varieties of long bean, which included three local and four exotic, were crossed in a complete diallel. This was an attempt to study the inheritance of crude protein content, protein yield, flowering date, pod yield and yield components.Both additive and non-additive gene effects were responsible for the genetic variation in the diallel population. However, dominance variance was more important than additive variance in crude protein content, number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod. For seed weight and pod length, additive variance was more important.The crude protein content, protein yield and number of pods per plant appeared to be controlled by overdominance effects. Partial dominance seemed to be the case for flowering date, pod length and seed weight; complete to overdominance for pod yield. High protein appeared to be associated with recessive genes whereas there was a general trend of high yielding parents carrying more dominant genes.  相似文献

Two Genetic models (an embryo model and an endosperm model) were proposed for analyzing genetic effects of nuclear genes, cytoplasmic genes, maternal genes, and nuclear–cytoplasmic interaction (NCI) as well as their genotype by environment interaction for quantitative traits of plant seed. In these models, the NCI effects were partitioned into direct additive and dominance NCI components. Mixed linear model approaches were employed for statistical analysis. For both balanced and unbalanced diallel cross designs, Monte Carlo simulations were conducted to evaluate unbiasedness and precision of estimated variance components of these models. The results showed that the proposed methods work well. Random genetic effects were predicted with an adjusted unbiased prediction method. Seed traits (protein content and oil content) of Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) were analyzed as worked examples to demonstrate the use of the models.  相似文献
