Despite a wealth of information about the respiratory behavior of pharyngeal dilator muscles such as the genioglossus, sternohyoid, and sternothyroid muscles, little is known about their contractile and endurance properties. Strips of these muscles (as well as of the diaphragm) were surgically removed from anesthetized cats and studied in vitro at 37 degrees C. The isometric contraction times of the muscles were 38 +/- 1, 31 +/- 1, 28 +/- 2, and 35 +/- 1 ms for genioglossus, sternothyroid, sternohyoid, and diaphragm, respectively. Contraction times were significantly longer for the genioglossus than for the sternohyoid and sternothyroid muscles and significantly longer for the diaphragm than for the sternohyoid muscle. Twitch-to-tetanic ratios were largest for the diaphragm and lowest for the sternohyoid muscle, and the force-frequency relationship of the sternohyoid was most rightward positioned and that of the diaphragm was most leftward positioned. During repetitive stimulation, the decrement in force was greatest for the diaphragm and least for the genioglossus muscle, with the force loss of the two hyoid muscles being intermediate in magnitude. The Burke fatigue index was significantly greater for the genioglossus than for the diaphragm, despite similar tension-time indexes during repetitive stimulation. These data indicate heterogeneity among pharyngeal dilator muscles in their contractile and endurance properties, that certain pharyngeal dilator muscle properties differ from diaphragmatic properties, and that pharyngeal muscles have relatively fast contractile kinetics yet reasonable endurance characteristics.  相似文献

Whole gastrocnemius muscles of rabbits, preliminarily denervated, were grafted. At the moment of grafting (60 days after the operation) the muscles were in the state of deep atrophy attended by distrophic changes.The autotransplantated muscles took at the site of grafting, their further reorganization provided progressive development of the muscle tissue within the transplant, its growth, and formation of definitive muscle fibers with nerve terminals. After a definite time some degenerative changes were observed in the transplant muscle tissue; as a result the muscle tissue was substituted by connective tissue. These data support the statement founded before on feasible free grafting of preliminary denervated whole muscles. However, deep denervation atrophy seems to influence the remote results of the transplantation.  相似文献

The electromyographic activity of the glossal, suprahyoid, infrahyoid, and pharyngeal muscles was examined during spontaneous respiration in rabbits anesthetized with ketamine hydrochloride. This activity was then correlated with phases of the respiratory cycle. Our findings indicate that the overwhelming majority of the muscles comprising these groups show activity that increased during inspiration and returns to the background level during expiration and the end-expiratory pause. The exceptions are the inferior pharyngeal constrictor muscle, which demonstrates increased activity during expiration and the end-expiratory pause, and the stylohyoid major and digastric muscles, whose activity was not modulated with respiration. In general, the results obtained under ketamine anesthesia are in agreement with the studies on a more limited number of muscles in humans during sleep or in animal studies utilizing light anesthesia. Furthermore, the use of ketamine avoids the central suppressant effects produced by barbituate anesthesia. It has been argued that the upper airway muscles are rhythmically active during respiration to maintain the patency of the upper airway. Both the number of muscles that are rhythmically active and their strict correlation with specific phases of the respiratory cycle suggest that the forces exerted on the upper airway are complex and that peak tension is generated during inspiration. Further studies are required to evaluate the effects of ketamine anesthesia on these upper airway muscles before this rabbit model can be utilized to examine respiratory disorders of the upper airway.  相似文献

The structural peculiarities of rabbit muscle aldolase accompanying enhancement of the aldolase activity in diabetes are described from the data of tryptophan phosphorescence at the room temperature and fluorescence polarization. It is shown that the pathology-concomitant conformational changes occur in both the hydrophobic part and NAD-binding site of the enzyme. The character of the structural changes in the hydrophobic part of the protein in diabetes and an increase in the enzymic activity are similar to that observed in normal aldolase after its interaction with NADH and are believed to be associated with the enhancement of the rigidity in the Trp-147 environment.  相似文献

A method is developed to isolate lysyl-tRNA-synthetase from 93-95%-purity postribosomal supernatant fraction of skeletal muscle homogenate in rabbit. Novelty of the method is the ATP usage for muscle homogenization, which permits shortening the number of operations during the enzyme isolation. The molecular weight of protein is 68 +/- 10 kDa, the monomer unit consists of 540 amino acids and contains a carbohydrate component.  相似文献

The Authors have studied the morphological features and the proprioceptive nervous component in the coccygeus and levator ani muscles of the rabbit, using Ruffini's and Barker-Ip's impregnations. The coccygeus muscle originates from ischiatic spine and inserts on the last three sacral vertebrae and on the first four or five caudal vertebrae. The levator ani muscle originates from the ischiatic spine and the coccygeus muscle aponeurosis and inserts directly on the caudal vertebrae 3-5 or 4-6. The proprioceptive innervation in both muscles is constituted by muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs with a typical structure. Muscle spindles are more numerous than Golgi tendon organs and the spindle density is higher in the levator ani muscle.  相似文献

Average lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isoenzyme patterns the content of H subunits, total LDH activity, total malate dehydrogenase (MDH) activity and the m- MDH/s-MDH ratio were determined in twelve muscles and the male genital tract of the rabbit. LDH(1) was the predominant form in the heart, soleus and masseter muscles, LDH(3) in the lingual muscles and LDH(5) in the other muscles analysed. In the muscles, an increase in the percentual proportion of M subunits was accompanied, by a proportional increase in total LDH activity and a decrease in total MDH activity, especially m-MDH. LDH isoenzyme patterns and LDH and MDH activities are useful for obtaining some idea about the proportion of individual muscle fibres. Activity accounted for by H subunits was roughly the same in all the muscles analysed, indicating that the synthesis of H subunits is independent of the type of muscle fibre and of the oxygen supply of the muscular tissue, and also that isoenzymes composed chiefly of H subunits are not localized preferentially in the mitochondria. Similar relationships between LDH isoenzymes and LDH and MDH activities were found in the testicular and epididymal tissues. The tests and the head of the epididymis mainly contain LDH isoenzymes composed of H subunits. The total LDH activity in these tissues is relatively low and their MDH activity is relatively high compared with the body and tail of the epididymis. The proportion of H subunits in the ampulla, the seminal vesicles, the coagulating glands and the prostate is also high. Cowper's glands have a high LDH(5) and LDH(4) concentration. One of two LDHx isoenzymes were found in the testes and spermatozoa.  相似文献

To characterize AMP deaminase activity in rabbit red and white muscles and heart, phosphocellulose column chromatography was carried out. White muscle and heart showed a single activity peak, but their elution positions were different. Red muscle showed two peaks of enzyme activity (Red-I and Red-II). Chromatographic, electrophoretic, immunological and kinetic studies showed that Red-I is identical to the isozyme in heart and Red-II identical to the isozyme in white muscle.  相似文献

The segmental musculature of Drosophila melanogaster larvae consists of 24-30 muscles per segment. Unique patterns of muscles are found in the three thoracic segments and the first and last abdominal segments; the remaining abdominal segments share the same pattern. Mutations in Ultrabithorax (Ubx) cause partial transformation of the muscle pattern of larval abdominal segments towards metathorax. The muscles of the thorax are not affected. In the first two abdominal segments the changes include the loss of at least 11 `abdominal' muscles and the gain of 11 `thoracic' muscles. Less extensive transformations are seen in more posterior abdominal segments. Anterobithorax, bithorax, postbithorax and bithoraxoid mutations also induce transformations of the larval musculature. Each allelic group affects a domain that is a subset of the entire Ubx domain but these domains are not restricted to compartments or segments and may extend through as many as five segments. In the muscles the segmental distribution of Ubx antigen correlates with the segments affected by Ubx mutations. The different domains of Ubx in mesoderm and ectoderm argue that the segmental diversity of the muscle pattern is not simply induced by the overlying epidermis and that Ubx function in the mesoderm is required for the correct development of abdominal segments.  相似文献

The cholinergic, histaminergic and adrenergic features of regulation of the small muscles contractile activity in a vascular wall of a pulmonary artery in rabbits and involvement of an endothelium in these processes, were investigated. The cholinergic release phenomenon of small muscles of the rabbit pulmonary artery has a two-component character of dose dependence. The low-threshold components of Pilocarpinum relaxing effect has an endothelium-dependent nature. The important feature of histaminergic regulation of contractile activity of segments involves a direct contractile effect of histamine that is not inherent. The endothelium renders a suppressing effect on histaminergic contraction of small muscles of the rabbit pulmonary artery. A basic feature of adrenergic regulation of the pulmonary artery involves registered-beta-adrenergic contractile effects in small muscles of a vascular wall. The activation of the cAMP-dependent signal system in small muscles of a pulmonary artery is capable of rendering a contractile effect. The detected features of a regulation in the small circle can have an essential clinical-physiological value.  相似文献
