In November 2005, the World Health Organization convened an informal technical workshop on the stability of reference materials for biological medicines and in vitro diagnostics. The meeting was attended by experts from WHO collaborating centres in the area of biological standardization, national control laboratories, industries and other relevant organizations. The consultation group discussed current practices and approaches to predicting and monitoring the stability of biological reference materials. The group agreed to the need for establishing a working group (i) to continue dialogue on potential issues encompassing the principles, strategies and practicality for assuring the stability of WHO international reference standards for biological medicines and in vitro diagnostics and (ii) to develop more detailed guidance for assessment of the stability of WHO international biological reference materials.  相似文献

Regional, national and local wetland classifications have been developed and successfully applied. These have invariably been orientated towards conservation and management goals, and the information used to assess wetland loss or to assign management priorities. Existing national and regional classification systems have not only been useful, but they provide an essential base for developing an international system. At the international level, differences among existing systems in the definition of a wetland and how wetland types are defined assume great importance and need to be resolved. Classification is an essential prerequisite for wetland inventory. A number of international inventories have been undertaken, although these have not generally utilized the available high technology and data storage systems available through remote sensing and geographic information systems. More extensive international inventories will require standardization of techniques for data collection, storage and dissemination. A minimum data set needs to be defined with standards for data accuracy. An international committee under the auspices of an international agency (e.g. IWRB, Ramsar Bureau, IUCN) needs to be established to develop an international classification system and guidelines for carrying out a complete inventory of the world's wetlands.  相似文献

Modern transplantation of cells, tissues and organs has been practiced within the last century achieving both life saving and enhancing results. Associated risks have been recognized including infectious disease transmission, malignancy, immune mediated disease and graft failure. This has resulted in establishment of government regulation, professional standard setting and establishment of vigilance and surveillance systems for early detection and prevention and to improve patient safety. The increased transportation of grafts across national boundaries has made traceability difficult and sometimes impossible. Experience during the first Gulf War with miss-identification of blood units coming from multiple countries without standardized coding and labeling has led international organizations to develop standardized nomenclature and coding for blood. Following this example, cell therapy and tissue transplant practitioners have also moved to standardization of coding systems. Establishment of an international coding system has progressed rapidly and implementation for blood has demonstrated multiple advantages. WHO has held two global consultations on human cells and tissues for transplantation, which recognized the global circulation of cells and tissues and growing commercialization and the need for means of coding to identify tissues and cells used in transplantation, are essential for full traceability. There is currently a wide diversity in the identification and coding of tissue and cell products. For tissues, with a few exceptions, product terminology has not been standardized even at the national level. Progress has been made in blood and cell therapies with a slow and steady trend towards implementation of the international code ISBT 128. Across all fields, there are now 3,700 licensed facilities in 66 countries. Efforts are necessary to encourage the introduction of a standardized international coding system for donation identification numbers, such as ISBT 128, for all donated biologic products.  相似文献

BackgroundThe AABB-ISCT Joint Working Group Stability Project Team (SPT) was assigned to roadmap a path toward standardization of cryopreserved hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell (HSPC) stability programs. HSPC stability encompasses a broad scope of conditions including non-frozen (“fresh”) and cryopreserved cell products, and varying methods for storage, thaw, and administration. This report assessed current practices and focused solely on cryopreserved HSPC cell therapy products to establish preliminary recommendations for a stability program roadmap.MethodsA survey was prepared by the SPT and distributed to ISCT and AABB members. Survey results were summarized and recommendations were outlined based on the responses from the survey. This report highlights current practices for cryopreserved HSPC stability programs, including additional considerations and recommendations.Results and DiscussionEighty-two (82) centers worldwide participated in the survey. Survey results indicate variability across programs. HSPC stability depends on multiple factors within the processing facility (e.g., cryopreservation techniques, reagents used, and storage temperature) and independent variables (e.g., donor-related factors and starting material variability). While retention of hematopoietic engraftment potential is the primary goal for cryopreserved HSPC stability, engraftment results should not be used as the sole metric for stability programs. Based on the survey results, the SPT provides recommendations for consideration.ConclusionsThe SPT recommendations for best practices are not intended to replace existing standards. The survey results emphasize the need for the community to optimize best practices and consider initiating collaborative projects to improve the standardization of cryopreserved HSPC stability programs for cell therapy products.  相似文献

Preparing dance specialist teachers to successfully educate an increasingly diverse student population highlights a number of challenges within an educational policy landscape characterized by technical production, methods-centric teacher preparation, teacher-proof curriculum, and standardization. The ramifications of these policies have significantly narrowed the scope of teacher preparation and stripped curricula of educational foundations content. This article presents a praxis-incorporative approach for integrating social foundations content into dance teacher preparation based on a review of relevant national standards. Recommendations and insights, grounded in research findings from an undergraduate dance pedagogy course (n = 59) taught from critical and feminist pedagogical perspectives, are discussed.  相似文献

The anti-tuberculosis BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guérin) vaccine was conceived and developed between 1905 and 1921 at Pasteur Institutes in France. Between 1921 and A. Calmette’s death in 1933, the vaccine went through a first period of national and international production and distribution for its use in humans. In France these activities were exclusively carried out by Calmette and his collaborators at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Initially improvised production in a small room in the cellar gave way in 1931 to the construction of the spacious and magnificent ‘New laboratories for research on tuberculosis and the preparation of the BCG’ within the premises of the Pasteur Institute. Presentation and image-building of the vaccine in France insisted on the fact that the BCG was not a commercial specialty but distributed free of charge. The technical monopoly of its production nevertheless lay with the Paris Pasteur Institute and standardization of scientific proof of safety, efficacy and stability was dominated by that Institute in France. In contrast, the international production and distribution of the vaccine was entrusted and transferred, free of charge, to trustworthy laboratories outside France. Multiplication of producers and users led to an increased need for standardization. For this process the analysis distinguishes between the standardization of scientific proof concerning safety, efficacy and stability of the vaccine and standardization of its medical uses. Whereas standardization was rather successful in the inter-war period in France, the international efforts remained rather unsuccessful. Only after world war II under Scandinavian leadership and in the context of mass vaccination programs supported by the WHO and UNICEF was the international standardization effectively implemented and succeeded at least to some extend.  相似文献

Summary The need for the standardization of reagents and methods used in the histology laboratory is demonstrated. After definitions of dyes, stains, and chromogenic reagents, existing standards and standards organizations are discussed. This is followed by practical instructions on how to standardize dyes and stains through the preparation of reference materials and the development of chromatographic methods. An overview is presented of the problems concerned with standardization of the Romanowsky-Giemsa stain for cytological and histological application. Finally, the problem of how to convince routine dye and stain users of the need for standardization in their histology laboratories is discussed.  相似文献

Cell manufacturing for clinical applications is a unique form of biologics manufacturing that relies on maintenance of stringent work practices designed to ensure product consistency and prevent contamination by microorganisms or by another patient's cells. More extensive, prolonged laboratory processes involve greater risk of complications and possibly adverse events for the recipient, and so the need for control is correspondingly greater. To minimize the associate risks of cell manufacturing adhering to international quality standards is critical. Current good tissue practice (cGTP) and current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) are examples of general standards that draw a baseline for cell manufacturing facilities. In recent years, stem cell researches have found great public interest in Iran and different cell therapy projects have been started in country. In this review we described the role of our tissue banking experiences in establishing a new cGMP cell manufacturing facility. The authors concluded that, tissue banks and tissue banking experts can broaden their roles from preparing tissue grafts to manufacturing cell and tissue engineered products for translational researches and phase I clinical trials. Also they can collaborate with cell processing laboratories to develop SOPs, implement quality management system, and design cGMP facilities.  相似文献

In recent years, significant progress has been made internationally in the development of human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)‐derived products for serious and widespread disorders. Biobanking of the cellular starting materials is a crucial component in the delivery of safe and regulatory compliant cell therapies. In China, key players in these developments have been the recently launched National Stem Cell Resource Center (NSCRC) and its partner organizations in Guangzhou and Shanghai who together, have more than 600 hPSC lines formally recorded in the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology''s stem cell registry. In addition, 47 of these hPSCs have also been registered with the hPSCreg project which means they are independently certified for use in European Commission funded research projects. The NSCRC are currently using their own cell lines to manufacture eight different cell types qualified for clinical use, that are being used in nine clinical studies for different indications. The Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOZ‐CAS) has worked with NSCRC to establish Chinese and international standards in stem cell research. IOZ‐CAS was also a founding partner in the International Stem Cell Banking Initiative which brings together key stem cell banks to agree minimum standards for the provision of pluripotent stem cells for research and clinical use. Here, we describe recent developments in China in the establishment of hPSCs for use in the manufacture of cell therapies and the significant national and international coordination which has now been established to promote the translation of Chinese hPSC‐based products into clinical use according to national and international standards.  相似文献

At the 2nd Medicago meeting (a satellite of the 1999 IS-MPMI meeting in Amsterdam), investigators perceived a need for standardization of genetic nomenclature in Medicago truncatula, due to the rapid growth of research on this species in the past few years. Establishment of such standards grew out of discussions begun at this meeting and continued electronically throughout the M. truncatula community. The proposed standards presented here are the consensus results of those discussions. In addition to standards for gene nomenclature, a method for community governance and a website for cataloging gene names and submitting new ones are presented. The purpose of implementing these guidelines is to help maintain consistency in the literature, to avoid redundancy, to contribute to the accuracy of databases, and, in general, to aid the international collaborations that have made M. truncatula a model system for legume biology.  相似文献

The grounds for global solidarity have been theorized and conceptualized in recent years, and many have argued that we need a global concept of solidarity. But the question remains: what can motivate efforts of the international community and nation-states? Our focus is the grounding of solidarity with respect to global inequities in health. We explore what considerations could motivate acts of global solidarity in the specific context of health migration, and sketch briefly what form this kind of solidarity could take. First, we argue that the only plausible conceptualization of persons highlights their interdependence. We draw upon a conception of persons as 'ecological subjects' and from there illustrate what such a conception implies with the example of nurses migrating from low and middle-income countries to more affluent ones. Next, we address potential critics who might counter any such understanding of current international politics with a reference to real-politik and the insights of realist international political theory. We argue that national governments--while not always or even often motivated by moral reasons alone--may nevertheless be motivated to acts of global solidarity by prudential arguments. Solidarity then need not be, as many argue, a function of charitable inclination, or emergent from an acknowledgment of injustice suffered, but may in fact serve national and transnational interests. We conclude on a positive note: global solidarity may be conceptualized to helpfully address global health inequity, to the extent that personal and transnational interdependence are enough to motivate national governments into action.  相似文献

WHO Collaborating Centres (CCs) form part of an international collaborative network set up by WHO in support of its mandated programme at the country, intercountry, regional, interregional and global levels, as appropriate. As part of its mandate in the area of biologicals, WHO has broadened the scope of its work and has expanded the range of activities devoted to the establishment of international standards for vaccines. In line with global immunization goals, the need for standards for evaluation of quality, safety and efficacy of new vaccines, as well as those that have been in use for a long time, has significantly increased. Furthermore, complex issues related to new production methodologies, more sophisticated techniques for characterization and laboratory testing, and for nonclinical and clinical evaluation of vaccines have raised a number of regulatory challenges for WHO when requested to assist its Member States. In this context, CCs in the area of standardization of vaccines and biotherapeutics (excluding blood products) have provided technical assistance and have broadened the scope of their work over time. In the area of standardization and regulatory evaluation of vaccines, WHO currently has six CCs as well as one candidate centre for which the designation process has been initiated and a further three candidate centres with great potential. The purpose of the meeting held on 24–26 April 2012 was to improve understanding of WHO's priorities in setting standards, to facilitate their implementation, and to increase transparency of the roles and responsibilities of CCs. The meeting was also an excellent opportunity to explore possibilities for improving collaboration between WHO and CCs, as well as among CCs themselves by working as a CC network. All CCs expressed a wish for increased interaction, information-sharing, collaboration and other ways of working together that may lead to cross-fertilization between the CCs. Synergy was recognized as a significant mechanism for leveraging existing resources in responding to global public health challenges and in addressing WHO's priorities. The development and private sectors are increasingly considering “biodiversity offsets” as a strategy to compensate for their negative impacts on biodiversity, including impacts on great apes and their habitats in Africa. In the absence of national offset policies in sub-Saharan Africa, offset design and implementation are guided by company internal standards, lending bank standards or international best practice principles. We examine four projects in Africa that are seeking to compensate for their negative impacts on great ape populations. Our assessment of these projects reveals that not all apply or implement best practices, and that there is little standardization in the methods used to measure losses and gains in species numbers. Even if they were to follow currently accepted best-practice principles, we find that these actions may still fail to contribute to conservation objectives over the long term. We advocate for an alternative approach in which biodiversity offset and compensation projects are designed and implemented as part of a National Offset Strategy that (1) takes into account the cumulative impacts of development in individual countries, (2) identifies priority offset sites, (3) promotes aggregated offsets, and (4) integrates biodiversity offset and compensation projects with national biodiversity conservation objectives. We also propose supplementary principles necessary for biodiversity offsets to contribute to great ape conservation in Africa. Caution should still be exercised, however, with regard to offsets until further field-based evidence of their effectiveness is available.  相似文献

The current evidence-base for recommendations on the treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is generally weak. Systematic reviews have pointed to a general lack of standardization of methods for the conduct and analysis of clinical trials of CL, compounded with poor overall quality of several trials. For CL, there is a specific need for methodologies which can be applied generally, while allowing the flexibility needed to cover the diverse forms of the disease. This paper intends to provide clinical investigators with guidance for the design, conduct, analysis and report of clinical trials of treatments for CL, including the definition of measurable, reproducible and clinically-meaningful outcomes. Having unified criteria will help strengthen evidence, optimize investments, and enhance the capacity for high-quality trials. The limited resources available for CL have to be concentrated in clinical studies of excellence that meet international quality standards.  相似文献

标准化是解决环境损害"鉴定难"问题的关键措施,更是环境损害鉴定评估走向独立化的重要标志。农业环境损害鉴定评估作为起步最早、需求量最大、成长较快的分支,已经具备标准体系的雏形。通过国内外标准比较与需求分析,提出了标准化建设的原则和定位,构建了标准体系框架。研究认为,我国农业环境损害鉴定评估标准体系应:(1)以损害受体和技术流程为纵向横向坐标;(2)围绕损害确认、因果关系判定以及损失评估,以规范农产品、农业环境要素以及生态系统的损害识别、症状诊断、损害溯源、监测检测方法、损失量化等技术要求为主要内容;(3)是一个由基础标准、技术导则、技术规范、技术指南组成的有机整体。  相似文献

Background aimsCell therapies are an emerging treatment option for a variety of diseases, especially with the success of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapies. With 18 FDA-approved cell therapy products as of December 2020 and a growing number in clinical trials, standards for most aspects of the cell therapy lifecycle are well-established by professional organizations like AABB and FACT; however, there are limited standardized protocols regarding the day-of infusion.MethodsInfusions were observed at three academic medical centers in the United States, and the workflows were analyzed and compared based on factors including facility layout, product verification processes, cryobag design, timing restrictions, and use of electronic medical records.ResultsVariations between the facilities were identified with product thawing location and cell therapy lab location being the most important factors in time from thaw to infusion.ConclusionsBased on this analysis, opportunities were identified for standardization and streamlining the infusion workflow which may help facilitate adoption of new and existing cell therapies at a wider range of hospitals.  相似文献

This paper discusses the impact of both standardization and quality testing of dyes and stains in biology and medicine. After a brief review of why standardized dyes and stains are not presently available commercially, two types of testing and ways of improving dye quality are described. National or international organizations could be established to define standardization of dyes and stains. Standardization would be specifically defined as a list of physico-chemical parameters such as elaborated in this paper. Commercial batches of comparable quality may be labeled by the supplier as “standard dye.” a procedure currently performed by the European Council for Clinical and Laboratory Standardization (ECCLS). Also recommended to improve dye quality is commercial dye testing by independent laboratories with subsequent certification for use. This sort of quality control is currently carried out in the United States by the Biological Stain Commission (BSC). The advantages and disadvantages of both techniques and the use of image analysis for the definition of standards are discussed. A combination of both the BSC testing protocols and the ECCLS standards should be established for extended quality control of biological dyes and stains.  相似文献
