The present paper deals with epidermal structure and developmentof stomata in 14 species of Verbenaceae. The epidermal cellsare either polygonal, isodia-metric, or elongated in variousdirections, and irregularly arranged. The anticlinal walls arethick, mostly sinuous, occasionally arched or straight. Thesurface of the cuticle shows parallel, rarely corrugated, striations. Some 12 types of eglandular and glandular trichomes, and foliarnectaries are noticed. The mature stomata are diacytic, anisocytic, paracytic, with a single subsidiary cell, anomocytic and perigenous. The development of anomocytic stomata is perigenous, while thatof others is mesogenous or syndetocheilic type. Abnormalitiesnoticed here include contiguous stomata, stomata with a singleguard cell, and aborted guard cells.

Ontogeny and metamorphic development of female reproductive organs in Ephedra sinica Stapf were surveyed. At the end of April, female cones began to initialize from the vegetative buds. Pollination occurred in mid-May and seeds matured at the beginning of July. The ontogenetic pattern of female reproductive organs of E.sinica is basically similar to that of E. distachya L. The foliar nature of the outer envelope of the ovule in Ephedra is corroborated. Reduction of ovule number as a tendency of speciation in the genus is substantiated by the occurrence of tri-ovulate cones coupled with comprehensive characters of the genus. The metamorphic patterns as well as the leaf nature of the outer envelope indicate that female cones of Ephedra are compound while the female reproductive units of the ovulate cone have been reduced from secondary reproductive shoots similar to those of cordaites by phylogenetic transformation, fusion and reduction. Each fertile bract together with its axillary female reproductive unit composed the Bract Scale and Seed Scale Complex of Ephedra .  相似文献

The structure and development of stomata in 10 Amaryllidaceousmembers are described. The study is made on the leaves and floralorgans of Amaryllis belladona, Crinum asiaticum, C. bulbispermum,C. latifolium, C. pratense, Pancratium sp., Polianthes tuberosa, and Zephyranthes atamsco, and on leaves of Agave sp. and Curculigoorchioides. In most of the organs of the different plants studiedmore than one type of stoma occur, even on the same surface. However, the stomata are largely anomocytic in Amaryllis, Crinum,Pancratium, Polianthes, and Zephyranthes, but they are tetracyticin Agave and Curculigo. An increase in the number of subsidiarycells in teracytic, tricytic, paracytic, and stomata with onesubsidiary cell has been noted. It may be due to wall formationin the subsidiary cells or by the neighbouring perigenes assumingtheir form. The range of variation in different types of stomatain each organ has been studied. Abnormal features such as juxtaposedor superimposed contiguous stomata, connections between guardcells of nearby stomata, transformation of meristemoids intoepidermal cells are observed. The development of different typesof stomata in different organs of the same plant is perigenous. The systematic position of different genera is discussed inlight of the present findings. A method of preparing epidermalimprints by the use of Depex, a mounting medium, and white ofan egg is also described.  相似文献

The structure and ontogeny of stomata in vegetative and floralorgans of three species of Kalanchoe is described. The matureanisocytic stomata are mono-cyclic or completely or incompletelyamphicyclic, rarely paracytic, transitional between paracyticand anisocytic and with a single subsidiary cell. The developmentof all the types is syndetocheilic or mesogenous from organto organ but the mature stomatal apparatus varies from organto organ as regards the number and arrangement of subsidiarycells. Abnormal stoma with a single guard cell and arresteddevelopment were observed on all organs. An abnormal stoma witha single guard cell develops directly from the meristemoid.  相似文献

The structure and development of stomata in 19 species of thefamily Caesalpiniaceae are described. The study is mostly confinedto the leaves, but observations have also been made on othervegetative and floral organs of some species Stomata may beparacytic, anisocytic, anomocytic, and with one subsidiary cell.Occasionally a stoma is diacytic, cyclocytic, or actinocytic.Different types occur individually or may be found side by sideeven on the same surface of an organ. The most prevalent typein all the genera is paracytic except in Caesalpima where itis anomocytic. The development of an anomocytic stoma is perigenous, but those with subsidiary cells are largely mesogenous; rarelyparacytic stomata are mesoperigenous. In spite of diversityof stomata, different types of stomata have similar patternsof development in different organs of the same plant. The presentinvestigation also indicates that the inconstancy of stomatain the family is due to (a) their diversity and (b) an increasein the number of subsidiary cells either by their division orby the neighbouring perigenes becoming subsidiary cell-like.  相似文献

The Stomata of Gnetum   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In both Gnetum gnemon and G. ula the atomatal development inthe collars and axes of the male and female cones and the outertwo envelopes of the ovule is of the haplocheilic type. In theleaf some stomata do show parallel subsidiary cells, but theyarise from the surrounding epidermal cells and do not seem tohave a common origin with the guard cells. This conflicts withearlier accounts and is of interest in relation to the typesof stomata met with in other gymnosperms, living and fossil.  相似文献

The ontogeny and structure of stomata in 22 genera and 51 speciesof the Polemoniales are described. Five main types of stomatanoticed are: anisocytic, anomocytic, diacytic, paracytic, andstomata with a single subsidiary cell. Three modes of stomataldevelopment: syndetocheilic or mesogenous, haplocheilic or perigenous, and meso-perigenous or syndeto-haplocheilic are observed. Abnormalitiesseen are: stomata with single guard cells, arrested developmentand contiguous stomata variously oriented. Contiguous stomataresult from adjacently placed meristemoids or readjustment duringmaturation. Stomata with a single guard cell are formed as aresult of degeneration of one of the guard cells before or afterpore formation. The stomatal apparatus varies in different organsof a plant in form, number, orientation and arrangement of thesubsidiary and also the surrounding cells. Three lines leadingto Polemoniales, Boraginales, and Solanales are distinet.  相似文献

InBupleurum tenue stomata have been observed on leaf, stem, stalk of compound umbel and umbellet, bract of involucre andinvolucel, pedicel of flower, both surfaces of petal, outerepidermis of pericarp, and the stylopodium. Their developmentis of the syndetocheilic type in vegetative as well as the reproductiveorgans. In the stylopodium the stomata are anomocytic whilein the rest of the organs they are anisocytic.  相似文献

Epidermal Structure and Development of Stomata in some Annonaceae   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
PATEL  R. J. 《Annals of botany》1971,35(5):1205-1212
Epidermal structure and development of stomata are studied in20 species of the Annonaceae. Epidermal cells are polygonalor irregular in outline, isodiametnc or elongated with straight, arched, or sinuous anticlinal walls. Cuticular striations radiatingfrom guard cells or hair bases are noticed. Four types of trichomesand secretory cells are seen. The mature stomata are paracyticwith 2–6 subsidiary cells, non-contiguous at both poles,or contiguous at one or both the poles. The increase in numberof subsidiary cells is due to their divisions. Contiguous stomata, arrested development, single guard cell, and degeneration ofguard cells are observed. The development is either syndetocheilicor mesogenous.  相似文献

Stomatal structure, ontogeny in vegetative and floral organs of 9 genera and 12 species of Cucurbitaceae are described. The stomatal types conform to aperigenous, monoperigenous, diperigenous, hemipara-mesoperigenous and para-mesoperigenous types of Fryns-Claessens & Van Cotthem (1973). Stomatal abnormalities such as contiguous stomata, single guard cells with or without pore, one and a half stomata, degeneration of one or both the guard cells, cytoplasmic connections between guard cells of neighbouring stomata and a guard cell of a stoma and an adjacent epidermal cell, and division of guard cells are described. Stomata index, frequency of stomata, epidermal cells, size of guard and epidermal cells and organwise distribution of stomata are given. Stomatal studies does not support the view that the Cucurbitaceae are related to the Passifloraceae. The inclusion of 9 genera and 12 species studied in the tribe Cucumerineae is justified.  相似文献

Assimilate partitioning was studied in the common pea (Pisum sativum L.) by feeding 14CO2 to whole plants and measuring radioactivity in different organs 48 hours after labeling. Two experimental protocols were used. For the first, one reproductive node was darkened with an aluminum foil, to prevent photosynthesis during labeling. The aim was to study assimilate translocation among nodes. The second was carried out to assess any priority among sinks. Whole plants were shaded, during labeling, to reduce carbon assimilation. Various developmental stages between the onset of flowering and the final stage in seed abortion of the last pod were chosen for labeling. When all photosynthetic structures at the first reproductive node were darkened at any stage of development after the formation of the first flower, the first pod was supplied with assimilates from other nodes. In contrast, later developed pods, when photosynthetic structures at their node were darkened, received assimilates from other nodes only when they were beyond their final stage in seed abortion. Reducing illumination to 30% did not change distribution of assimilated carbon between vegetative and reproductive structures, nor among pods. It appears that the relative proportion of 14C allocated to any one pod, compared to other pods, depends on the dry weight of that pod as a proportion of the total reproductive dry weight. When the plant was growing actively, following the start of the reproductive phase until a few days before the end of flowering, the top of the plant (i.e., all the organs above the last opened flower) had a higher sink strength and a higher relative specific activity than pods, suggesting that it was a more competitive sink for assimilates. The pattern of assimilate distribution described here provides an explanation for pod and seed abortion.  相似文献

The epidermal structure of the five species of ferns, Arthromeriswallichiana (Spr.) Ching., Drymoglossum piloselloides (Prest.),Drynaria quercifolia (L.) J. Smith, Lepisorus nudus (Hook.)Ching. and Pyrrosia nuda (Gies.) Ching., has been investigated.Fifteen types of stomatal structures have been identified ofwhich copolo-desmocytic and coperi-desmocytic are new types.Four more possible stomatal structures: ccpolo-peri-, codesmo-polo-,codesmo-peri- and duplodesmocytic, are suggested. Localizationof starch, insoluble polysaccharides, protein and lipids hasbeen examined histochemically in the guard cells, subsidiarycells and epidermal cells. In Drynaria starch plastids and plastidscontaining both starch and protein are present in guard cells.Starch plastids are present in the subsidiary cells of all speciesexcept in Arthromeris, whereas, they are present in epidermalcells of only Drymoglossum and Lepisorus. Granular or amorphousinsoluble polysaccharides (other than starch) are present inguard cells of all the species, in the subsidiary cells of Arthromeris,Drynaria and Pyrrosia, and in the epidermal cells of Pyrrosia.Except in Pyrrosia lipids are present in the guard cells. Subsidiarycells of Drynaria and the epidermal cells of Arthromeris andDrynaria show lipid bodies. The presence of plasmodesmata andectodesmata is demonstrated in the epidermal cells of Drymoglossum.  相似文献

The epidermal structure and ontogeny of stomata in 19 speciesof Centrospermae and two of Polygonales are described. The cellsof the epidermis are polygonal, isodiametric, or elongated invarious directions and arranged irregularly. The anticlinalepidermal walls are thick, sinuous, straight, or arched. Eleventypes of glandular and eglandular trichomes have been observed.Six types of stomata: anomocytic, paracytic, stomata with asingle subsidiary cell, diacytic, anisocytic, and transitionalbetween diacytic and paracytic, have been noticed in the speciesinvestigated. The ontogeny of anomocytic stomata is haplocheilicor perigenous, while that of the other five types is syndetocheilicor mesogenous. Abnormal stomata with a single guard cell, unequalguard cells, aborted guard cells, and arrested development arecommon. Groups of stomata are also frequent but contiguous stomataare rather rare.  相似文献

This paper describes the cuticle, epidermis, and the differentkinds of stomata met with in three species of Anemia.Observationsmade on the ontogeny of the Anemia type or ‘floating’stomata in A. rotundifolia show that their meristemoids giverise to a guard cell mother cell by the formation of a periclinalwall as suggested earlier by other workers.  相似文献

The types of glandular trichomes, their ontogeny and patternof distribution on the vegetative and reproductive organs ofLeonotis leonurus at different stages of development, are studiedby light and scanning electron microscopy. Two morphologicallydistinct types of glandular trichomes (peltate and capitate)are described. Peltate trichomes, at the time of secretion, are characterized by a short stalk, which is connected witha large spherical head composed of eight cells in a single layer.Capitate trichomes can be divided into various types. Generally, they consist of a four-celled head supported by one or threestalk cells. The two kinds of trichomes differ in the secretionprocess. In the peltate trichomes, the secretory product seemsto remain accumulated in a subcuticular space, unless an externalfactor damages it. In the capitate trichomes, this product probablybecomes released through micropores. On the leaves peltate andcapitate trichomes are abundant, while on the flowers only thepeltate trichomes are numerous and the capitate are rare orabsent.Copyright 1995, 1999 Academic Press Leonotis leonurus R. The stomata in Gnetum ula Brongn. occur in large numbers on the abaxial surface of the leaves and are orientated in various directions. A few were seen in some preparations on the adaxial surface also, especially in the region of the midrib.
Stomatal development follows the syndetocheilic type of Florin. According to the terminology of ontogenetic types suggested by Pant, they may be described as mesogenous dolabrate; they are mesoparacytic (rubiaceous) and amphicyclic. In this respect, and in several details, the present findings support the observations of Takeda, and differ rather widely from those of Maheshwari & Vasil.
Twin stomata were also met with frequently, as well as several stomata lying together contiguously. The structural features of these are described and commented upon briefly in the paper.  相似文献
