Although the fungal order Mortierellales constitutes one of the largest classical groups of Zygomycota, its phylogeny is poorly understood and no modern taxonomic revision is currently available. In the present study, 90 type and reference strains were used to infer a comprehensive phylogeny of Mortierellales from the sequence data of the complete ITS region and the LSU and SSU genes with a special attention to the monophyly of the genus Mortierella. Out of 15 alternative partitioning strategies compared on the basis of Bayes factors, the one with the highest number of partitions was found optimal (with mixture models yielding the best likelihood and tree length values), implying a higher complexity of evolutionary patterns in the ribosomal genes than generally recognized. Modeling the ITS1, 5.8S, and ITS2, loci separately improved model fit significantly as compared to treating all as one and the same partition. Further, within-partition mixture models suggests that not only the SSU, LSU and ITS regions evolve under qualitatively and/or quantitatively different constraints, but that significant heterogeneity can be found within these loci also. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that the genus Mortierella is paraphyletic with respect to the genera Dissophora, Gamsiella and Lobosporangium and the resulting phylogeny contradict previous, morphology-based sectional classification of Mortierella. Based on tree structure and phenotypic traits, we recognize 12 major clades, for which we attempt to summarize phenotypic similarities. M. longicollis is closely related to the outgroup taxon Rhizopus oryzae, suggesting that it belongs to the Mucorales. Our results demonstrate that traits used in previous classifications of the Mortierellales are highly homoplastic and that the Mortierellales is in a need of a reclassification, where new, phylogenetically informative phenotypic traits should be identified, with molecular phylogenies playing a decisive role.  相似文献

A new species of Stictyosiphon from the North Atlantic is decribeci. Morphologically it resembles a densely branched Chordaria flagelliformis or an aberrant Dictyosiphon foeniculaceus. It disagrees with known species of Stictyosiphon by a loosely constructed cortex which develops in connection with formation of plurilocular sporangia. We, therefore, consider this a new species for which the name Stictyosiphon arcticus is proposed.  相似文献

Summary A new species of a new genus of the Actinoplanaceae is described, for which the name Planobispora longispora gen. nov. sp. nov. is proposed. The organism is a typical mesophilic, aerobic actinomycete, producing a filamentous growth which is differentiated into a vegetative and an aerial mycelium. The new organism is characterized by the formation of sporangia only on the aerial mycelium and by containing a longitudinal pair of motile spores.  相似文献

A chytridiaceous fungous species was found parasitic in the roots of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L. var. botrytis) and cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata) in the heavy soil fields of Varanasi, U.P. The morphology of resting sporangia and life cycle of the pathogen revealed that no fungus species has hitherto been described befitting its developmental pattern. A new genus Johnkarlingia Pavgi & Singh has been proposed to accommodate the fungus with Johnkarlingia brassicae Singh & Pavgi as its type species. The taxonomy and affinities of the genus are discussed.  相似文献

Basispora is recognised as a new genus of the Ralfsiaceae (Phaeophyceae), distinguished from other members of this family by the terminal unilocular sporangia arising on long stalks from near the base of the simple, often assurgent, laterally free erect filaments. The type species Basispora africana is described; it is widely distributed along the West African coast. Two other taxa from New Zealand, formerly included in Hapalospongidium, are transferred to this new genus, necessitating the new combinations Basispora saxigena and B. durvilleae. These three species are separated on the structure of the vegetative thallus, dimensions, shape of the sporangial stalk and on the type of substrate on which they grow.  相似文献

A new species of Phytophthora, previously referred to as the 'Dre I' taxon, is named Phytophthora irrigata. Isolates of P. irrigata morphologically and physiologically resemble Phytophthora drechsleri. They are heterothallic, produce nonpapillate sporangia, and grow well at 35 degrees C. The above two species differ significantly in uniformity of mycelium, presence of chlamydospores, DNA fingerprint, and sequences of multiple nuclear and mtDNA regions. Phytophthora irrigata produces smaller sporangia and a distinct DNA fingerprint. Sequence alignments in the ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer regions place Phytophthora fallax and Phytophthora captisoa as its closest relatives. The optimal temperature for culture growth is above 30 degrees C and the maximum temperature is 40 degrees C. This new species is abundant in irrigation reservoirs and natural waterways in Virginia and was also isolated in Pennsylvania.  相似文献

A new species of the genus Telangiopsis, T. nonnae O. Orlova et Zavialova, was described on the basis of a microsporangiate organ from the Lower Carboniferous deposits of the Novgorod Region. The morphology of branching fertile axes, synangia, and sporangia was thoroughly studied. The three-dimensional system of fertile axes branches monopodially; ultimate axes bear numerous connivent bunches of synangia, which consist of three to six basally fused elongated ovate sporangia. The morphology and ultrastructure of prepollen grains were studied, which were extracted from the rock matrix surrounding the sporangia. The two-layered exine includes a well-developed endexine and an alveolate ectexine, with one-three rows of large thin-walled alveolae. The new species was compared with other Early Carboniferous microsporangiate organs.  相似文献

In an investigation of Pythium species in China, two new species, P. agreste and P. wuhanense, were identified based on morphological characteristics and DNA sequence data. Pythium agreste has slightly inflated sporangia, oogonia encompassed by antheridia and antheridial stalks forming a very complicated knot, and plerotic oospores. It differs from the morphologically similar P. volutum which has inflated sporangia, bigger oogonia, and aplerotic oospores; from P. kashmirense which has contiguous inflated sporangia, catenulate oogonia and coiled or bent oogonial stalks; and from P. pectinolyticum which has catenulate oogonia and bigger oogonia and oospores. Pythium wuhanense can be differentiated from morphologically similar P. emineosum and P. paroecandrum by its possession of intercalary cylindrical to elongated sporangia and intercalary oogonia catenulate with sporangia and antheridia. Phylogenetic analyses showed that these two new species were clearly separated from morphologically similar Pythium species, based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COI) gene sequences using maximum parsimony and Bayesian methods. A new genus and species, Gumuia zyzzata is found in the Posonchong Formation of the Lower Devonian (Siegenian) from Wenshan district of Yunnan, China. It has both lateral and terminal sporangia. Successive sporangia develop on alternate sides of short axes near the hases of preceding sporangia, producing a zigzag fertile organization. The author supposes that it is a sympodium Opposite sporangia are suppositionally referred to the result from condensation of the axis between alternate sporangia. The new plant is tentatively referred to a putative zosterophyll.  相似文献

A new species, Pythium sukuiense, was isolated from an undisturbed natural forest in northern Taiwan. The fungus produces sporangia indistinguishable from hyphae and very small oogonia and oospores. Oogonia were smooth and terminal or intercalary and attached with a single antheridium. Oospores were aplerotic, with an average size of only 11 μm.  相似文献

Melissiotheca is based on fusainized pollen organs of pteridospermous affinities which occur abundantly in an Upper Visean limestone at Kingswood, near Pettycur (Scotland). The new species is a pedicellate synangium composed of 50–150 sporangia each of which is embedded at its base in a parenchymatous cushion divided into lobes. The sporangia are fused along their proximal half but are free distally. Dehiscence is longitudinal. Each sporangium is supplied at its base by a single vascular strand. Prepollen is small, spherical and trilete with a rugulate exine. In ultrastructure, the nexine appears homogeneous; the sexine shows internal sculpture of granae and rod elements. Melissiotheca has not been assigned to any family, but it shows many affinities with pollen organs attributed to the Lyginopteridaceae.  相似文献

A new taxon Sporathylacium salopense gen. et sp. nov . is based on small isolated coalified sporangia from the Lower Devonian (Lochkovian: micrornatus—newportensis spore zone) from the Welsh Borderland. The sporangia have two equal valves with multi-layered walls and thickened borders, and contain trilete crassitate, non-curvaturate isospores that are completely covered by a microgranular ornament with possible distal verrucate/murornate structures. They differ from zosterophyll sporangia in details of the presumed dehiscence zone extending around the entire free convex margin, particularly in the presence of a wedge of amorphous material between the valves, and in spore characters. Absence of any information relating to water-conducting cells prevents further assignment within the embryophytes. Spherical bodies associated with spores and a resilient sporangial lining are compared with similar structures in extant free-sporing plants and with Ubisch bodies. The mode of sporangial dehiscence involving anatomical modifications of the valve margins and the novel wedge of tissue which connects them remains speculative.  相似文献

Pythium carbonicum (F-72) sp. nov. was found in soil samples taken on the top of a spoil heap in northern France. The morphology of this new species resembles that of a recently described species: Pythium megacarpum. However, the antheridial and oogonial characteristics of this new species are unique, and the comparison of its ITS region of the nuclear ribosomal DNA indicates that this species is also related to the genus Phytophthora. The fungus does not sporulate, the sporangia germinate directly into mycelium through germ tubes. The oogonia of P. carbonicum are smooth-walled and also papillated, and are provided with monoclinous and diclinous antheridia that wrap around, forming a complicated knot. Small plant fragments previously attributed to Dimeripteris cornuta SCHWEITZER and CAI and new specimens are described from the Middle Devonian (Givetian) Xichong Formation of Wuding, Yunnan Province, southwest China. A predominantly trifurcate branching pattern is recognized in lower orders of branching. Erect fusiform sporangia are borne in pairs terminally on a short pedicel on up to three times dichotomously-branching fertile unit. The beaked tips of the paired sporangia point outwards. This plant is distinguished from known plants by the trifurcate branching pattern and sporangia morphology, but is of problematic affinity. The plant is named Tauritheca cornuta (SCHWEITZER and CAI) WANG and BERRY nov. gen. and nov. comb.  相似文献

Five new species of Pythium are described, following ecological studies of the genus in the Reading (U.K.) area. Two of the new species were found abundantly, three were rarely isolated. Neither of the abundant species produces sporangia and both have very small oospores. Of the rarer species, two have filamentous sporangia and all three have rather large oospores.  相似文献

KATO, M., 1990.Ophioglossaceae: a hypothetical archetype for the angiosperm carpel. In the light of a recently proposed phylogenetic position of Ophioglossaceae as living progymnosperms, a new archetype model for the angiosperm carpel is proposed. The three-dimensional construction of ophioglossoid fertile leaves with epiphyllous sporophores may be comparable to angiosperm carpels with adaxial ovules. The orientation of erect sporangia on young sporophores dorsiventrally facing the trophophores resembles that of anatropous ovuleS. Glossopterid fructifications may be interpreted as having the same construction as ophioglossoid leaveS. In the present hypothesis, the adaxial position of the ovules arose prior to the evolutionary process leading from gymnospermy to angiospermy. Previous hypotheses involving origins from Caytonia and Glossopteris are criticized.  相似文献

A new species of early vascular land plant, Estinnophyton yunnanense , is described from the Lower Devonian (upper Pragian) Posongchong Formation at Zhichang village, Gumu Town, Wenshan District, Yunnan Province, China. This plant possesses aerial stems with isotomous branching. The leaves are slender, once- or twice-bifurcated, and arranged in low spirals or pseudowhorls. Fertile leaves are morphologically identical to the vegetative ones, clustered on the axis, forming a loose strobilus-like structure. There are three to six fertile leaves in each gyre. Two ovoid-elongate sporangia are singly attached to the adaxial surface each subtended by a recurved stalk, either at the base of each segment in a once-bifurcate fertile leaf or below the points of successive divisions in a twice-bifurcate fertile leaf. Estinnophyton yunnanense differs from two other species described previously from Europe, E .  gracile and E .  wahnbachense , mainly in possessing two single stalked sporangia on each fertile leaf rather than two pairs of sporangia, as well as in the dimensions of its leaves. In view of the complex taxonomy and nomenclature surrounding the type material of Estinnophyton , we considered possible emendation of the generic diagnosis based on the new Chinese material. Following comparison with typical members of the Protolepidodendrales and other taxa, Estinnophyton is considered to have had a closer affinity with primitive sphenopsids than the protolepidodendralean lycopsids.
