Faba bean (Vicia faba L. var. minor cv. Alborea) and pea (Pisum sativum L. cv. Lincoln) plants, inoculated with Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar. viciae strain GRA19, were treated with salt (100 mM NaCl) and/or nitrate (8 mM KNO3) to test whether plants grown with inorganic-nitrogen are more tolerant to salinity than plants entirely reliant upon fixed nitrogen. According to the growth inhibition recorded, pea plants dependent on dinitrogen fixation proved more tolerant to salt stress than those N-fertilized, in contrast to results obtained for faba bean plants. This study therefore confirms that plants dependent on nitrogen fixation are not always more sensitive to salinity than are N-fertilized plants. Nitrate addition did not reduce the specific nitrogenase activity in pea, but did in faba bean. However, nodulation was inhibited in both legumes. The specific nitrogenase activity was more affected by salt treatment in N-fertilized plants for both legumes. The activity of the enzymes mediating ammonium assimilation in nodules (GS, NADH-GOGAT) was inhibited by salt stress both in N-fixing and in N-fertilized pea and faba bean plants.  相似文献

Effect of pre-treatments of 1 and 5 M epibrassinolide or homobrassinolide prior to water stress induction on changes in root nodulation and contents of endogenous abscisic acid (ABA) and cytokinin trans-zeatin riboside (ZR), and nitrogenase activity was investigated in the nodulated roots of Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Arka Suvidha. Brassinosteroids in the unstressed plants increased root nodulation, ZR content and nitrogenase activity, and also ameliorated their stress-induced decline in the nodulated roots. The ABA contents in the nodules of control or stressed plants were not altered by brassinosteroids treatment. There was an increase in pod yield by brassinosteroids treatment (5 M) in the irrigated control as well as stressed plants without influencing pod number or pod length. Among the brassinosteroids, epibrassinolide was relatively more effective.  相似文献

Root nodule ontogeny was followed in different parts of the root system of field peas (Pisum sativum L. cv. Century) to investigate the contribution to total nitrogen fixation by different nodule subpopulations. Seed-inoculated plants were grown to maturity in controlled-environment growth chambers. In a flow-through system nitrogenase activity (H2-evolution in air) and nodulated-root respiration (net CO2-evolution) were measured weekly or biweekly in different parts (top and mid) of the root system. Root nodule extracts were assayed for total soluble cytosolic protein, total heme, proteolytic capacity (at pH 7.0), soluble carbohydrates and starch. Total nitrogenase activity and nodule respiration were higher in the top zone, which was explained by differences in root and nodule mass. Nodule specific nitrogenase activity was similar in both zones, and gradually declined throughout the experiment. No differences were found between nodule subpopulations in the dry-matter specific concentrations of glucose, fructose, sucrose or starch. Neither did nodule concentrations of protein or leghemoglobin differ between the zones. Throughout reproductive growth, no decline was found in total or nodule specific nitrogenase activity, in any of the nodule subpopulations. Growth of the root nodules continued throughout the experiment, though growth of shoot and roots had ceased. The data gives no support for carbohydrate limitation in root nodules during pod-filling, since nodule respiration remained high, the concentration of soluble carbohydrates increased significantly, and the amount of starch was not reduced. We conclude that when this symbiosis is grown under controlled conditions, nitrogenase activity in nodules sub-sampled from the crown part of the root system is representative for the whole nodule population.  相似文献

Summary In a pot culture experiment, the influence of soil moisture stress at different physiological stages of soybean, cv. Hark, on nodulation, symbiosis and nitrogen accumulation was studied. Moisture stress reduced leghemoglobin content of root nodules and nitrogen uptake by plants. It had no effect on number of bacteroids. Stress at mid bloom and rapid pod filling stages reduced yield and seed protein content. However, these parameters were not affected by stress at nodule initiation and early flowering stages, though, flower initiation and maturity of the plant were delayed. Moisture stress at any stage did not alter nitrogen status of roots.  相似文献

Summary Separate experiments examined nodulation and seed yield of cowpea cv. Prima after (a) changes in the level of combined nitrogen from 25 to 0 or 60 ppm N, (b) cycles of wilting and rehydration, and (c) shading to ca 50% full daylight. Plants were grown in the simulated tropical environment of a plastics bubble house and experienced these changes over the growth stages: emergence to first flower, first flower to mid pod-fill or mid pod-fill to maturity.Seed yields of nodulated plants were unaffected by combined nitrogen supply and almost double those of non-nodulated plants (100 g cf 56 g per plant)-due mainly to increases in pod number per plant and mean seed weight. Reducing the nitrogen level from 25 to 0 ppm N, especially between mid pod-fill and maturity, reduced seed yields of non-nodulated plants to 36 g per plant. At the first flowering stage, plants grown without combined nitrogen had nitrogenase activities less than 10% of those supplied with 25 ppm N; 60 ppm N at any stage of development more than halved nitrogenase activity when compared with plants supplied with 25 ppm.Repeated wilting prior to flowering markedly reduced seed yields compared with the unstressed controls (41 g cf 76 g per plant)-mainly by decreasing subsequent pod production. Nodule weight and nitrogenase activity per plant were also much reduced. Wilting after flowering did not reduce yield, and nitrogenase activity was less affected.Shading throughout, or from first flower onwards, reduced seed yield by about 25% because fewer pods were produced. All shading treatments significantly increased mean seed weight compared with unshaded controls (116–121 mg cf 105 mg).One of a series of papers describing work undertaken in a collaborative project with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Nigeria, sponsored by the U.K. Ministry of Overseas Development.Soil Microbiology Department, Rothamsted Experimental Station, Harpenden, Herts.Soil Microbiology Department, Rothamsted Experimental Station, Harpenden, Herts.  相似文献

N2-fixation is sensitive to limitation in the availability of newly synthesised carbohydrates for the nodules. We decided to explore the response of the D. trinervis - Frankia symbiosis to a transient decrease in carbohydrate supply to nodules. Feedback inhibition of nodulation as well as nodule growth was not released by a 6-day dark stress in D. trinervis nodulated plants. However, nitrogen fixation and assimilation were affected by the imposed stress. Nitrogenase activity was totally inhibited after 4 days of darkness although high levels of nitrogenase components were still detected at this time. Degradation of FeMo and Fe nitrogenase subunits – both at similar rates – was observed after 6 days of dark stress, revealing the need for inactivation to precede enhancement of protein turnover. Glutamine synthetase (GS), malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and asparagine synthetase (AS) polypeptides were also degraded during the dark stress, although at a lower rate than nitrogenase. ARA and nitrogenase were totally recovered 8 days after resuming normal illumination. It seems that current nitrogenase activity and ammonium assimilation are not, or are only weakly linked with the feedback control of nodulation in D. trinervis. These observations give support to the persistence of an autoregulatory signal in mature nodules that is not sensitive to transient shortages of carbon supply and sustains the inhibition of nodulation in the transient absence of N2 fixation.  相似文献

Potassium (K) is reported to improve plant's resistance against environmental stress. A frequently experienced stress for plants in the tropics is water shortage. It is not known if sufficient K supply would help plants to partially overcome the effects of water stress, especially that of symbiotic nitrogen fixation which is often rather low in the tropics when compared to that of temperate regions. Thus, the impact of three levels of fertilizer potassium (0.1, 0.8 and 3.0 mM K) on symbiotic nitrogen fixation was evaluated with two legumes under high (field capacity to 25% depletion) and low (less than 50% of field capacity) water regimes. Plants were grown in single pots in silica sand under controlled conditions with 1.5 mM N (15N enriched NH4NO3). The species were faba bean (Vicia faba L.), a temperate, amide producing legume and common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), a tropical, ureide producing species. In both species, 0.1 mM K was insufficient for nodulation at both moisture regimes, although plant growth was observed. The supply of 0.8 or 3.0 mM K allowed nodulation and subsequent nitrogen fixation which appeared to be adequate for respective plant growth. High potassium supply had a positive effect on nitrogen fixation, on shoot and root growth and on water potential in both water regimes. Where nodulation occurred, variations caused by either K or water supply had no consequences on the percentage of nitrogen derived from the symbiosis. The present data indicate that K can apparently alleviate water shortage to a certain extent. Moreover it is shown that the symbiotic system in both faba bean and common bean is less tolerant to limiting K supply than plants themselves. However, as long as nodulation occurs, N assimilation from the symbiotic source is not selectively affected by K as opposed to N assimilation from fertilizer.  相似文献

The effect of Streptomyces albovinaceus (S-22) and Bacillus sp. (B1) on the growth response, nodulation, nutrition and nitrogenase activities of faba bean (Vicia faba) varieties infected with Glomus mosseae under pot conditions in sterile soil amended with chitin was studied. The growth, nodulation, nutrients content and nitrogenase activity of mycorrhiza-treated plants of Giza-667 were significantly increased compared to untreated ones. Such increases were related to the increase in mycorrhizal root infection. Amendment of soil with chitin alone reduced the growth, nodulation, total nitrogen contents and nitrogenase activities of mycorrhiza-treated faba bean plants (Giza-667) compared to untreated plants. Inoculation of plants with S. albovinaceus or Bacillus sp. significantly increased the level of mycorrhizal roots infection, but addition of chitin to the soil in combination with Bacillus sp. reduced the mycorrhizal infection of faba bean roots. Highest phosphorus contents of faba bean Giza-667 were recorded after G. mosseae inoculation in the presence of all treatments. Similar results were observed for the other varieties. The microbial populations were significantly increased in rhizospheres amended with chitin. Such increases were not in response to the mycorrhizal inoculation. Generally, the microflora of faba bean rhizospheres was increased after treatment with G. mosseae in the absence of chitin amendment alone compared with non-mycorrhizal rhizospheres.  相似文献

We have investigated the effect on growth of fertilisation versus biological nitrogen fixation by rhizobial nodules in Retama sphaerocarpa(L.) Boiss, a leafless leguminous shrub native to the Iberian Peninsula and North-West Africa that has generated interest for revegation of dry Mediterranean habitats. Our main objective was to optimise the formation of root nodules under nursery conditions and to evaluate their influence on the first year of seedling growth in comparison with standard fertilisation. Seedlings of R. sphaerocarpa from two Spanish localities were grown under two levels of fertilisation, and half of each were inoculated with rhizobia isolated from adult Retama, Cytisus and Adenocarpusplants in the field. Although some promiscuity was observed, nodulation was significantly successful with specific rhizobia. At the end of the experiment, highly fertilised plants were taller and heavier and exhibited larger photosynthetic rates than either nodulated or non-nodulated plants under low fertilisation. High fertilisation enhanced seedling growth but inhibited both the nodulation and the nitrogenase activity of the nodules. Thus, physiological differences between nodulated and non-nodulated plants were observed in the low but not in the high fertilisation treatment. Nitrogen uptake and use was enhanced by root nodules, which translated into enhanced photosynthesis and growth. Since inoculation is simple, environmentally friendly and cheap, and nodulated plants are more likely to overcome transplant stress than non-nodulated ones, our results suggest that inoculation together with low, background fertilisation (instead of high fertilisation) should be used when producing high quality seedlings of this autochthonous Mediterranean shrub.  相似文献

Summary Alnus glutinosa andAlnus rubra growing in the field in Scotland show specific nitrogenase activities of the same order of magnitude. The period of maximum potential nitrogenase activity coincides with that of maximum growth in late Spring and Summer. It is suggested that the retention of nitrogenase activity into the Autumn when growth has virtually ceased may be important as a contribution to the nitrogenous reserves of the tree.Bioassay of different Scottish soils, all collected from the locality of natural stands ofAlnus glutinosa, showed wide variation in the nodulation of seedlings, although generally a soil poor for nodulation ofAlnus glutinosa generally gave poor nodulation ofAlnus rubra. Soils of pH 4.5 to 6.5, best suited for growth and nitrogen fixation of the two species, often gave nodules showing highest specific nitrogen fixing activity. Young (2 to 3 year old) plants in glasshouse or controlled environment cabinet, inoculated withAlnus glutinosa endophyte, differed from mature field grown plants, however, sinceAlnus rubra required a much larger (up to 2.5 times) mass of root nodules to fix a unit quantity of N. Microscopic comparison of the nodules of glasshouse plants showed that the proportion of cells containing the vesicular (nitrogen fixing) form of the endophyte was only slightly lower inAlnus rubra than inAlnus glutinosa and it is suggested that the differences in specific nitrogen fixing activity between the two species may reflect some incompatibility of function of theAlnus glutinosa endophyte when in symbiosis withAlnus rubra.  相似文献

We evaluated response differences of normal and transformed (so-called ‘hairy’) roots of soybean (Glycine max L. (Merr.), cv L17) to the Nod-factor inducing isoflavone genistein and salinity by quantifying growth, nodulation, nitrogen fixation and biochemical changes. Composite soybean plants were generated using Agrobacterium rhizogenes-mediated transformation of non-nodulating mutant nod139 (GmNFR5α minus) with complementing A. rhizogenes K599 carrying the wild-type GmNFR5α gene under control of the constitutive CaMV 35S promoter. We used genetic complementation for nodulation ability as only nodulated roots were scored. After hairy root emergence, primary roots were removed and composite plants were inoculated with Bradyrhizobium japonicum (strain CB1809) pre-induced with 10 μM genistein and watered with NaCl (0, 25, 50 and 100 mM). There were significant differences between hairy roots and natural roots in their responses to salt stress and genistein application. In addition, there were noticeable nodulation and nitrogen fixation differences. Composite plants had better growth, more root volume and chlorophyll as well as more nodules and higher nitrogenase activity (acetylene reduction) compared with natural roots. Decreased lipid peroxidation, proline accumulation and catalase/peroxidase activities were found in ‘hairy’ roots under salinity stress. Genistein significantly increased nodulation and nitrogen fixation and improved roots and shoot growth. Although genistein alleviated lipid peroxidation under salinity stress, it had no significant effect on the activity of antioxidant enzymes. In general, composite plants were more competitive in growth, nodulation and nitrogen fixation than normal non-transgenic even under salinity stress conditions.  相似文献

Nitrate (20 mM) applied to the root medium of 28-day-old nodulated pea plants (Pisum sativum L., cv. Jupiter) immediately retarded nodule growth and inhibited root nodulation. Acetylene-reducing and H2-evolving nitrogenase activities were also significantly inhibited. The inhibitory effect of nitrate on nodule respiration was less pronounced while the respiration of roots was increased after the addition of nitrate. The levels of cytosol glutamine synthetase and nitrate reductase in nodule cytosol were permanently decreased from the 4th day after nitrate application. These results indicate that the inhibitory effect of high nitrate concentration on whole nodule metabolism is nonspecific in nature.  相似文献

We previously reported that inhibition of ethylene biosynthesis with aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) eliminated the inhibitory effect of NO3 on nodulation of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L. cv. Aragon) plants grown aeroponically. In this work, the effect of Ag+, as an inhibitor of ethylene action, has been studied in plants growing aeroponically or in darkened tubes with vermiculite, and low-nitrate or high-nitrate solution. Vermiculite-grown plants developed up to 3 times as many nodules as did those growing aeroponically. Nodule formation was mirrored by dry-matter accumulation. High (10 mol m–3) NO3 applied from planting inhibited nodulation to an equal extent (c. 50%) in the two growth conditions. In contrast, Ag+ treatment increased nodule formation at all NO3 concentrations assayed under the two growth conditions, with the stimulation being higher in plants grown aeroponically. Finally, no effect of Ag+ (10 mmol m–3) on plant growth was observed in either of the growth conditions. The effectiveness of NO3 as a nodulation inhibitor and enhancer of ethylene biosynthesis in roots of alfalfa was also studied. Within 24 h after inoculation, 10 mol m–3 NO3 exerted most of its inhibitory effect on nodulation. At the same time, both 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) oxidase activity and ethylene evolution rates markedly increased in inoculated and uninoculated alfalfa roots treated with NO3. Support for a role of endogenous ethylene in the control of nodule formation in legumes is discussed.  相似文献

The effects of the herbicide methabenzthiazuron (175 and 220 g ha-1) on vegetative and reproductive growth, nodulation and nitrogenase activity of Vicia faba were studied in the field under Mediterranean conditions. Nitrogenase activity of excised nodules was estimated using the acetylene reduction assay four times during the developmental period. Leaf area index, dry weight and nitrogen content of the different parts of the plants were measured. Methabenzthiazuron-treated plants showed an increase in nodulation, nitrogenase activity and vegetative growth at early pod fill. Methabenzthiazuron also caused an increase in leaf N content and fruits. These were transient effects found during early and mid pot fill. Nevertheless, plants treated with these sublethal doses of herbicide improved seed production and nitrogen content of seeds at harvest time. The stimulatory effect of methabenzthiazuron on N2 fixation and vegetative growth seems not be related with the transient stimulatory effect on photosynthetic capacity, also caused by the herbicide, since the stimulatory effect on N2 fixation was apparent during pod fill, when photosynthetic capacity declined and was not modified by methabenzthiazuron.  相似文献

In order to shed new light on the mechanisms of salt-mediated symbiotic N2-fixation inhibition, the effect of salt stress (75 mM) on N2-fixation in pea root nodules induced by R. leguminosarum was studied at the gene expression, protein production and enzymatic activity levels. Acetylene reduction assays for nitrogenase activity showed no activity in salt-stressed plants. To know whether salt inhibits N2-fixing activity at a molecular or at a physiological level, expression of the nifH gene, encoding the nitrogenase reductase component of the nitrogenase enzyme was analyzed by RT-PCR analysis of total RNA extracted from nodulated roots. The nifH messenger RNA was present both in plants grown in the presence and absence of salt, although a reduction was observed in salt-stressed plants. Similar results were obtained for the immunodetection of the nitrogenase reductase protein in Western-blot assays, indicating that nitrogen fixation failed mainly at physiological level. Given that nutrient imbalance is a typical effect of salt stress in plants and that Fe is a prosthetic component of nitrogenase reductase and other proteins required by symbiotic N2-fixation, as leghemoglobin, plants were analyzed for Fe contents by atomic absorption and the results confirmed that Fe levels were severely reduced in nodules developed in salt-stressed plants. In a previous papers (El-Hamdaoui et al., 2003b), we have shown that supplementing inoculated legumes with boron (B) and calcium (Ca) prevents nitrogen fixation decline under saline conditions stress. Analysis of salt-stressed nodules fed with extra B and Ca indicated that Fe content and nitrogenase activity was similar to that of non-stressed plants. These results indicate a linkage between Fe deprivation and salt-mediated failure of nitrogen fixation, which is prevented by B and Ca leading to increase of salt tolerance.  相似文献

Low pH (5.2) decreased nodule number and acetylene reduction. Aluminium further depressed those parameters in theRhizobium leguminosarum-Pisum sativum associations examined. In the Al-treated plants nodule formation by strains 128C53 and 128C30 was not affected by 3 or 15 and 30 or 60 μM Al, respectively, as compared with the number of nodules on plants grown at pH 5.2 in the absence of Al. However, improved nodulation rates by those strains did not enhance plant dry weight or reduced nitrogen content. No differences in nitrogenase activity were found among strains of nodulating plants grown at the same aluminium level. These results suggest that Al-ions affected specifically nitrogenase activity and that this effect was primarily responsible for the reduction in plant growth.  相似文献

Nitrate or ammonium was added to soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill cv Corsoy) plants grown in plastic pouches 10 days after nodules first appeared. By the third day of treatment with 10 millimolar nitrate, nitrogenase specific activity (per unit nodule weight) had decreased to 15% to 25% of that of untreated plants. Longer incubations and higher concentrations of nitrate had no greater effect. In addition, exogenous nitrate or ammonium resulted in slower nodule growth and decreased total protein synthesis in both the bacterial and the plant portion of the nodule (as measured by incorporation of 35S). Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis revealed that the nitrogenase components were not repressed or degraded relative to other bacteroid proteins. In the presence of an optimal carbon source, the nitrogenase specific activity of nodules detached from nitrate-treated plants was equivalent to that of nodules from untreated plants. These results are consistent with models that propose decreased availability or utilization of photosynthate in root nodules when legumes are exposed to fixed nitrogen.  相似文献

Summary The effect of 2-day cycles of osmotically induced leaf moisture stress followed by partial recovery on the nodulation and nitrogenase activity of 2 soya cultivars was studied. Fourteen days after plant inoculation (mid-growth stage) the total leaf electrochemical water potential (wleaf) of control plants ranged from –0.8 to –1.9 bars, whereas the concentrations of osmoticum (polyethylene glycol 4000) induced wleaf values ranging from –1.4 (recovery value) to –3.1 bars (low stress), –1.8 to –4.4 bars (mild stress), and –2.2 to –6.2 bars (medium stress). The low stress treatment reduced nodule numbers and their specific activity in both cultivars, without affecting nodule size or the time required for nodule initiation. Nodule initiation was delayed in both cultivars by the mild and medium stress treatments, the former treatment reducing the number and size of the nodules and such nodules exhibited very low specific activity. The medium stress treatment prevented the further development of nodule initials, which remained inactive throughout the experiment. Such results imply an effect of water stress on the infection process and on nodule morphogenesis. The reduction in nodule numbers observed in water stressed plants was not associated with a reduced number of rhizobia in the rhizoplane nor due to an effect on root growth or root hair formation. At a stage prior to the formation of macroscopic nodule initials, the roots of plants under medium stress (wleaf=–5.5 bar)s) had a higher content of abscisic acid (ABA) (4-fold increase) and a lower content of gibberellin (GA)-like substances (21.4% reduction) as compared to control plants (wleaf=–1.0 bar). Although the medium stress treatment slightly increased the stomatal resistance of leaves, photosynthetic and transpiration rates were unaffected. Similar alterations of the hormononal balance occurred in the nodulated roots of plants subjected to naturally induced leaf moisture stress.Since the foliar application of ABA (1.92×10–5 M) to unstressed plants inhibited nodulation (45% reduction in nodule numbers), the increased endogenous content of thishormone in the roots of plants under leaf moisture stress may provide some physiological insight into the inhibitory effect of water stress on the nodulation process.  相似文献

The present investigation has been performed to evaluate nitrate reductase (NR) and nitrogenase activities as well as growth and mineral nutrition of wheat plants grown under drought stress and inoculated with different Azospirillum strains (NR and NR+). Fresh, dry mass and water content decreased with decreasing soil moisture content, which was accompanied with low soluble sugars and soluble protein content and increase in the total amino acids content. Azospirillum inoculation with either bacterial strain (NR and NR+) significantly increased the above characteristics even at 40 % moisture content. NR activity decreased in both the shoots and roots by decreasing soil moisture content. NR+ strain exhibited increased root NR activity compared with uninoculated plants or inoculated with NR strain. However, plants inoculated with NRstrain increased NR activity in the shoot more than in the root of the same plant and in the shoot of control plants. Inoculation with either NR and NR+ Azospirillum strains gave higher nitrogenase activity than uninoculated control plants. The low N supply (0.5 mM) did not affect nitrogenase activity. NRstrain was less effective than NR+strain in promoting total N-yield, spike numbers and their mass per pot. Azospirillum inoculation exhibited no significant changes in wheat Mg2+ content. However, K+ and Ca2+ have shown significantly increased values. Azospirillum beneficial effect on plant N balance and growth are most probably composed of multiple mechanisms and beneficial NR is one of them. The importance of Azospirillum NR+strains for increasing wheat resistance to water stress is also supported by the obtained data. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Application of plant growth regulators (PGRs) to soybean plants is known to induce changes in nitrogenase activity in root nodules, and this led us to hypothesize that PGRs would affect nitrogenase activity in free-living rhizobia cultures. Little is known about the molecular basis of the effects of PGRs on nitrogenase activity in free-living rhizobia cultures. Therefore, a comparative study was conducted on the effects of gibberellins (GA3) and mepiquat chloride (PIX), which regulate plant growth, on the nitrogenase activity of the nitrogen-fixing bacterium Bradyrhizobium japonicum. Fix and nif gene regulation and protein expression in free-living cultures of B. japonicum were investigated using real-time PCR and two-dimensional electrophoresis after treatment with GA3 or PIX. GA3 treatment decreased nitrogenase activity and the relative expression of nifA, nifH, and fixA genes, but these effects were reversed by PIX treatment. As expected, several proteins involved in nitrogenase synthesis were down-regulated in the GA3-treated group. Conversely, several proteins involved in nitrogenase synthesis were up-regulated in the PIX-treated group, including bifunctional ornithine acetyltransferase/N-acetylglutamate synthase, transaldolase, ubiquinol-cytochrome C reductase iron-sulfur subunit, electron transfer flavoprotein subunit beta, and acyl-CoA dehydrogenase. Two-pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of GA3 and PIX on nodulation and nitrogenase activity in Rhizobium-treated legumes. Interestingly, GA3 treatment increased nodulation and depressed nitrogenase activity, but PIX treatment decreased nodulation and enhanced nitrogenase activity. Our data show that the nif and fix genes, as well as several proteins involved in nitrogenase synthesis, are up-regulated by PIX and down-regulated by GA3, respectively, in B. japonicum.  相似文献
