The RLGS (Restriction Landmark Genome Scanning) method was originally developed as a powerful method for enabling viewing
of thousands of restriction landmarks. It offers a tool for obtaining information about genetic loci, with a single RLGS profile
displaying approximately 2000 restriction landmarks as spots. One of the most useful applications is RLGS spot mapping, which
allows the efficient, low-cost construction of the genetic map of any organism. However, analyses of the profiles depend mainly
on human visual observation and are tedious and laborious. Although several commercially available image analyzing systems
for profile comparison have been examined, they cannot be used for the RLGS spot mapping system owing to the background characteristics
of the RLGS profiles, unsatisfactory rates of correspondence, and inefficient correction of informative genetic data. We therefore
developed a novel automatic image analysis system for RLGS spot mapping, using an original algorithm based on the binary image
transferred from the original RLGS profile. This system was employed for identifying non-polymorphic and parental strain-specific
polymorphic spots of the F1 mouse profile and yielded efficient initial screening of RLGS profiles.

Automatic genotype elimination algorithms for a single locus play a central role in making likelihood computations on human pedigree data feasible. We present a simple algorithm that is fully efficient in pedigrees without loops. This algorithm can be easily coded and has been instrumental in greatly reducing computing times for pedigree analysis. A contrived counter-example demonstrates that some superfluous genotypes cannot be excluded for inbred pedigrees. 相似文献

Summary Computer-assisted metaphase analysis for prenatal diagnosis can be economically performed by a preexisting hardware-software system. The program can be run by technician-level (i.e., nonspecialist) personnel who can opt for the automatic operational mode for good quality metaphases or for the semimanual mode for problem metaphases (numerous superpositions, artifacts, etc.). This study developed an artificial neural network (ANN) to estimate the growth of microorganisms during a fermentation process. The ANN relies solely on the cumulative consumption of alkali and the buffer capacity, which were measured on-line from the on/off control signal and pH values through automatic pH control. The two input variables were monitored on-line from a series of different batch cultivations and used to train the ANN to estimate biomass. The ANN was refined by optimizing the network structure and by adopting various algorithms for its training. The software estimator successfully generated growth profiles that showed good agreement with the measured biomass of separate batch cultures carried out between at 25 and 35_C. 相似文献

An automatic tracking system for rotifer swimming movements is described. The x and y coordinates of the Center of gravity of the animal are stored in the computer memory every twelfth of a second. Computer programs were developed to analyze the data and to calculate the average and the standard deviation for the following parameters per unit of time: distance traveled, turning angles toward the right and toward the left, distance from the point of departure as the crow flies. Histograms are traced by the computer showing the distribution of these values, as well as their evolution with time. This experimental system is dependable. The first values which we obtained for the swimming speed of rotifers correspond well with those which are given in the literature. The other parameters had not been measured until now. 相似文献
