Single-serum diagnosis of recent rubella infection was attempted with the use of hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test and two commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). The period during which IgM antibody was detectable by IgM capture ELISA was 4 to 30 days after the onset of rash. Rubella IgG ELISA values relative to HI titer were lower in the sera from the patients with recent infection than in the sera from the subjects with remote infection. IgM ELISA and the combined use of IgG ELISA and HI test are two useful methods of single-serum diagnosis of recent rubella infection.  相似文献

The presence and localization of fibrin and fibronectin in rheumatoid nodules were studied using an indirect immunoperoxidase technique on tissue specimens fixed in formaldehyde, embedded in paraffin and pretreated with pepsin and testicular hyaluronidase. Three zones characteristic for rheumatoid nodules was recognized. Central area with necrosis, containing at least in part fibrinogen-antigenic material and fibronectin especially in the peripheral part of the necrotic area. Around the necrosis a layer of mesenchymal cells in a palisade arrangement was found. Especially in the external part of this layer fibronectin was demonstrated around and between the cells, where fibrin was absent. Peripherally, a zone of non-specific granulation tissue containing moderate amount of fibronectin decreasing towards the surround mature connective tissue, was seen. In the border of the cellular layer vessels were found in variable amount. In some of the vessels vasculitis was demonstrated with the presence of inflammatory cell infiltration, fibrin deposition and occasionally thrombosis. The pathogenesis of the inflammatory reaction in rheumatoid nodules is discussed.  相似文献

Necessary but radical operation which results in short-circuits between various levels of the digestive tract, with or without resections of portions of the esophagus, stomach or intestine, frequently cures the condition for which the operation was done, but leaves the patient with difficult nutritional problems. These nutritional disturbances are usually associated with inability to maintain or gain weight as a result of badly regulated movement of food material through the altered digestive tract, and by the removal or diversion of important digestive secretions, such as those elaborated by the stomach, pancreas, duodenum and small bowel. Increased intestinal rate and diminished specific gastrointestinal secretions reduce the ability of the small bowel to properly absorb food, with resulting malnutrition, deficiency disease, and at times specific avitaminosis. Inability to absorb fat and fat-soluble substances is a constant feature of these conditions. Successful treatment of the nutritional problems involves constant, prolonged overfeeding of nonbulky foods, usually given in regular, frequently administered meals of small volume. Vitamin concentrates may occasionally be of some temporary assistance but are not needed if a balanced diet is given and may cause undesirable and sometimes dangerous symptoms. The use of supplemental substances, such as liver extract and a wetting agent, such as "Tween 80," to improve fat absorption have been demonstrated to be of value.The postoperative conditions described are fairly similar to the condition known as sprue, and it is possible that the general principles underlying the treatment of this disease apply to the entire group of post-operative nutritional disturbances alluded to.  相似文献

Following the onset of diabetes mellitus (DM) in the NOD mouse, diabetic dams have many offspring with severe anomalies, especially with visceroatrial heterotaxy syndrome. The purpose of the present study is to analyze this syndrome with special reference to atrial situs. The fetuses from a colony of NOD mice in our laboratory were divided into two study groups: Group A included fetuses from dams before the onset of DM and group B included fetuses from dams with overt DM before day 8 of pregnancy. The fetuses which had cardiac anomalies with viscero-atrial heterotaxy were classified into four subtypes according to the atrial morphology, i.e., "incomplete situs solitus" (or solitus-like), "incomplete situs inversus" (inversus-like), right isomerism, and left isomerism. Group A (671 fetuses) included only one case with right isomerism (0.15%) and four cases with left isomerism (0.6%). Group B (158 fetuses) had 57 fetuses with heterotaxy syndrome (36.1%), including 20 cases with solitus-like, 6 with inversus-like, 30 with right isomerism, and one with left isomerism. A tendency for right isomerism to occur was found in fetuses with solitus-like and inversus-like anomalies. These results show that the maternal DM in this mouse had an influence upon the morphological mechanism determining right isomerism of visceroatrial heterotaxy syndrome. Thus this syndrome in the NOD mouse is equivalent to asplenia in humans, and it may be useful in elucidating the mechanism of the human syndrome.  相似文献

The manner of branch development in mosses was studied. Two types of branch development,Bryum-type andClimacium-type, can be distinguished by their morphology at dormancy. In theBryum-type, the branch primordium does not produce leaves and stays as a primordium at dormancy; the primordium is merely a mass of thin-walled cells with an apical cell. However, in theClimacium-type, the branch primordium produces leaves even in the very early stages of development, and it is a bud accompanied by scale-like leaves that goes through dormancy. Though pseudoparaphyllia have been considered to originate from epidermal cells of a stem, results of the present study show that they are, whether filamentous or foliose, produced by the branch primordia. TheBryum-type of dormant branch primordium is accompanied by filamentous pseudoparaphyllia in some species, while, that of theClimacium-type is sometimes accompanied by foliose pseudoparaphyllia. Filamentous pseudoparaphyllia are found to be produced adventitiously from the outermost cell layer of a primordium. Developmental mode of foliose pseudoparaphyllia is left for a future survey.  相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships within the genus Pieris (Ericaceae) were investigated based on the rbcL and matK genes along with five spacer sequences of chloroplast DNA to address questions regarding the phylogeography of the genus in association with insular plants on the Ryukyu Islands. The most parsimonious trees indicated that P. floribunda from eastern North America is a sister taxon to the remaining taxa examined, and suggested that the East Asian taxa examined are monophyletic. A morphologically cohesive group, section Pieris, was revealed to be paraphyletic. Within the East Asian clade, insular endemics from the Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, and mainland Japan formed a sister group to P. formosa from the Himalayas and southern China. Our data suggest that the insular endemics of the Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan arose via allopatric divergence as a result of a paleogeographical land configuration of a landbridge during the early–middle Pleistocene in the Quaternary Period.  相似文献

Amputated hindlimbs of Xenopus laevis, develop various types of regenerates in relation with amputation level as well as stage development. The present experiments is an attempt to study the histological characteristics of Xenopus regenerations, i.e., rational changes of tissue components along the length of the regenerated part with special emphasis on the degree of muscle regeneration. Four types of regenerates were studied viz; a 4th toe obtained from a completely restored regenerated limb at 126 days after amputation of limb at base level in stage 51. An amputated limb with no external sign of regeneration of limb at thigh level in stage 60. A spike-shaped regenerate at 96 days after amputation of limb at shank level in stage 63. A spike-shaped regenerate at about 2 years after amputation of limb at shank level in stage 60. Cross sectional areas of muscle, skin gland, epidermis and cartilage in each of the four types of regenerates were measured with Image Analyzing Apparatus (VIP 121 CH, Olympus Co.). The relative area of each tissue was expressed as a percentage of the cross sectional area of the limb. The obtained values were plotted along the length of the regenerate. Digitiform regenerates were found to be more or less similar to the control limbs, i.e., provided joints and muscle, while the heteromorphic spike or rod shaped regenerates were simply provided with cartilaginous axial core without joint formation. Muscle area were reduced rapidly near the amputation area of these heteromorphic regenerates with no more continuation in the regenerated tissue. It is interesting to mention that percentage cartilage area of about 2 years old spike regenerate was higher than that of similar 96 days regenerate. In addition muscle regeneration was completely absent even in such an aged regenerate. The area showed fairly similar ratio irrespective of the external appearance of the regenerate. In 32 regenerates of which limbs were amputated at various developmental stages ranging between stage 51 and adult stage, the histological condition of muscle at the amputation site, were well observed. In all digitated types of regenerates even in those with reduced number of toes, muscles were found grown well in the regenerates. In heteromorphic regenerates without toe formation muscle did not usually regenerate. In few cases, however, a small mass of myoblastic like cells or small aggregation of differentiated muscle cells without any structural continuation with the stump muscles, were seen to develop in the midst of the regenerate.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献
