Amblyseius finlandicus (Oudemans) was selected in the laboratory for resistance to azinphosmethyl and dimethoate by subjecting adult females to increasing concentrations of dried residues of dimethoate and azinphosmethyl on detached bean leaves. The first eight selections were done with dimethoate. Slide-dip bioassays indicated selection with dimethoate increased dimethoate resistance 1.8-fold and azinphosmethyl resistance 2.6-fold. These resistances appeared to be quite stable: a 1.2 to 1.3-fold decrease in resistance ratios was observed in a subculture after 10 months without selections. No decrease was observed after 9 months without selections in a pooled colony that consisted of both resistant and susceptible mites. The dimethoate-selected colony was subsequently selected eight times with azinphosmethyl. About 15 % of the mites survived the last selection round with 2,500 ppm, which is 2.5 times the highest recommended field rate in Finnish apple orchards. At the end of the selection program, based on slide-dip bioassays, the total increase in resistance to dimethoate was about two-fold and to azinphosmethyl about 5.4-fold compared to the unselected base colony from which the selected colony was derived. The LC50 value for azinphosmethyl was 14 times higher in the selected colony (451.3 ppm a.i.) compared to the most susceptible colony tested. A similar level of resistance to both pesticides was achieved after six azinphosmethyl selections on a mixed colony that was initiated by pooling mites from five field-collected colonies and the dimethoate-selected lines. Year-to-year variation in azinphosmethyl LC50 values of the unselected base colony was high, with values varying from 83.8 to 348.7 ppm a.i., demonstrating the need to test a reference strain in each bioassay. Results of the azinphosmethyl selections and the subsequent slide-dip bioassays suggest that the resistant strain could tolerate field rates of azinphosmethyl (300–950 ppm a.i.) used in Finnish apple orchards.  相似文献

The course of diapause induction as well as of diapause termination infemales of the predatory mite Euseius (Amblyseius)finlandicus Oudemans (Acari: Phytoseiidae) in Northern Greece wasdetermined by transferring females during winter and early spring from peachtrees to a short day (LD 8:16) or a long day (LD 16:8) photoperiod both at 20°C. The first diapause females were found in mid September andby the first week of October all the females were in diapause. The mean numberof days required for diapause termination under the short day photoperiod LD8:16 was gradually reduced from 93.7 days in the beginning of October to lessthan 20 days in mid February and early March. Under the long day photoperiod ofLD 16:8 diapause was terminated in less than 20 days irrespective of the dateof collection. These results indicate that by mid February photoperiodicsensitivity of females was lost and diapause was terminated. However, femaleswere found in their overwintering sites until the second half of March,probablybecause of the prevailing relatively low temperatures and lack of adequatefood.  相似文献

In peach orchards of northern Greece Euseius finlandicus Oudemans overwinters in various sites on the trees, usually in groups of 5–15 females. Overwintering females were mostly found in bark crevices near the hibernation cocoons of the peach moth Adoxophyes orana (Fischer von Rosslerstamm), and also in small crevices of the bark and in pedicels left after fruit harvesting. Empty scales of dead diaspidids and dead coccids, cocoons of lacewings and mummies of parasitized aphids sporadically found on trees, were less common overwintering sites for females of the mite. In two successive years, mortality of overwintering females was very low, approximately 4 and 4.5% which could be due to the mild climate of northern Greece and the high cold tolerance of the mite. Amblyseius fallacis Garman has been selected for pyrethroid resistance and mass reared for experimental release as a biological control agent for tetranychid mites on a number of crops in Canada. Several releases of this predator onto apple and peach trees have failed to result in the establishment of A. fallacis, or in the biological control of Panonychus ulmi Koch. Here, we test the hypothesis that the change of host-plant at the time of release is a critical factor in the establishment of A. fallacis for biological control of P. ulmi. Functional and numerical response studies were undertaken on two populations of A. fallacis: a wild strain collected from the canopy foliage of an apple orchard near Vineland, Ontario; and a second strain reared on bean plants in a commercial insectary with Tetranychus urticae as prey. Each population consumed significantly more P. ulmi and produced significantly more eggs when on leaf disks from the plant species they were reared on, than on leaf disks from the novel host plant. A further experiment was conducted to determine if establishment and biological control of mass-reared A. fallacis could be affected by rearing a population for a short term on apple leaves prior to release on apple trees. Three release treatments were made into potted apple trees in a glasshouse, using predators commercially mass-reared on bean and T. urticae: A. fallacis released directly; A. fallacis reared in the laboratory for four weeks on bean and T. urticae; A. fallacis reared on apple leaves and T. urticae for four weeks. They were compared with a control treatment lacking predator release. Contrary to results of the functional and numerical response studies, no difference was observed between release treatments. All release treatments adding A. fallacis resulted in a similar, if limited, degree of biological control of P. ulmi. These results indicated that there may be short-term effects of host plant on the establishment of A. fallacis and biological control of P. ulmi, which in our study were observed as an initial reduction of the predatory response. However, in a test, the predators appeared to overcome these short-term effects and successfully established on the new host-plant to control P. ulmi.  相似文献

Development, survival and reproduction of Euseius finlandicus Oudemans were studied at seven constant temperatures (15, 20, 25, 27, 30, 32 and 34°C) in the laboratory. Within the temperature range tested, developmental period from egg to adult varied from 148 to 360.5h and 133.7 to 336.5h for females and males, respectively. The lower thermal threshold for immature development for females and males was 8.9 and 6.4°C, respectively. Survival during immature development exceeded 90% at all the temperatures from 15 to 32°C, but at 34°C an abrupt decline was recorded. Female longevity decreased gradually from 82.7d at 15°C to 12.2 d at 34°C. The mean generation time ranged from 44.3d at 15°C to 15.9d at 32°C. The highest r m value (0.2817) was obtained at 30°C and the lowest at 15°C (0.0976). Temperatures above 30°C had an adverse effect on population increase.  相似文献

We introduced a mass-reared pyrethroid-resistant strain of the predatory phytoseiid mite Amblyseius fallacis (Garman) into an Ontario peach orchard in an attempt to control populations of the phytophagous mites Panonychus ulmi Koch and Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae). Releases of 1,000 and 2,000 mites per tree were made, at three different times. The release of 2,000 mites per tree in June and in July resulted in significantly higher phytoseiid densities than was observed on control trees. However, densities of P. ulmi or T. urticae were not significantly affected by any release rate or by timing. The release of 1,000 A. fallacis per tree, or of any density in August, did not significantly increase phytoseiid abundance. In the following year, population dynamics of both phytoseiid and phytophagous mites were not significantly affected by the previous year's release. Amblyseius fallacis can be a useful predator in some fruit orchards. However, further research is necessary into the timing and rate of release, modified spray programmes, and with different crops, in order to clarify the role of this species for biological control in Ontario peach orchards.  相似文献

The aim of this study was todetermine the biology and reproductivepotential of Euseius scutalis(Athias-Henriot) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) atvarious temperatures. These data are of valuein relation to mass rearing and the developmentof population dynamics models. The developmenttime, survival and fecundity of E.scutalis were determined at 20, 25 and30 ± 1 °C, 65 ± 10% RH and 16:8photoperiod. Total development times of E.scutalis were 6.7, 4.9 and 4.2 days at 20, 25and 30 ± 1 °C, respectively, using adiet of all life stages of the spider mite Panonychus citri (McGregor) (Acari:Tetranychidae). In general, preoviposition andpostoviposition periods of E. scutaliswere shortened as temperature increased, butthe oviposition period was longer at 25 °C than at 20 and 30 °C. Theshortest survival time of E. scutalis, at30 °C, was 10.1 days, followed by 23.7days and 28.6 days at 20 and 25 °C,respectively. Mated females laid on average1.1, 1.4 and 1.7 eggs per female per day and21.5, 39.7 and 17.1 eggs over their entire lifetime at 20, 25 and 30 °C, respectively.The sex ratios of E. scutalis were2.11/1, 2.24/1 and 2.11/1 female/male at 20, 25and 30 °C, respectively. The intrinsicrate of natural increase (r m) increasedwith rising temperatures from 0.166 at 20 °C to 0.295 females/female/day at 30 °C. The net reproductive rate (R 0)was highest at 25 °C (26.03females/female) and lowest at 30 °C(12.95 females/female). Mean generation time(T 0) was longest at 25 °C (17.50days) and shortest (9.53 days) at 30 °C.  相似文献

Between 1988 and 1992, 26 strains of Panonychus ulmi (fruit tree red spider mite) were collected from fields in which control failures had been observed with the acaricides clofentezine, hexythiazox or flucycloxuron.Strains were tested for susceptibility using a standardized laboratory method, to check whether control failure was due to (cross-) resistance. Classification of field populations was on the basis of their observed tolerance distribution as measured by estimates of the logLC50 () and the inverse of the slope of the probit regression line () respectively. Emission rates of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from Pirus malus L. subsp. mitis (Wallr.) var. Golden Delicious and var. Starking attacked by the phytophagous mite Panonychus ulmi Koch, and their attractiveness to the predatory mites Amblyseius andersoni Chant and Amblyseius californicus McGregor, were studied during three years. A large variability was found in the emission of individual VOCs depending on the infestation, the apple tree variety and the date. There were larger total VOC emission rates and larger total VOC leaf concentrations in apple trees attacked by phytophagous mites, especially in the var. Starking. In infested trees of this variety, there were also more predatory mites. An olfactometer assay showed that predatory mites preferentially chose branches infested by Panonychus ulmi (85% went to infested branches vs 15% to uninfested control branches) indicating that volatiles may be used as cues to find their prey.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the potential impact of the phytoseiid Euseius finlandicus, the mirid Blepharidopterus angulatus and the anthocorid Orius majusculus on the Typhlodromus pyri/Panonychus ulmi predator/prey relationship on apple. Euseius finlandicus consumed more immature spider mites than did T. pyri. When both phytoseiids were present and spider mite prey was abundant, there was no evidence of a negative interaction between the predators. In experiments where each predatory mite was confined with large numbers of the other predator, interspecific predation was exhibited by adults of each species on immatures of the other, but more so by E. finlandicus. In the predatory insect/phytoseiid experiments, when confined with spider mites and large numbers of T. pyri, both B. angulatus and O. majusculus consumed some T. pyri, but spider mites were the preferred prey. In experiments with B. angulatus, O. majusculus and T. pyri feeding on P. ulmi, there was no evidence of negative interactions between the predatory insects and T. pyri.  相似文献

We looked at the effect of the presence of pollen (Typha latifolia) on the functional response of Typhlodromus pyri (Phytoseiidae) to Panonychus ulmi (Tetranychidae) in the laboratory. We found that pollen significantly reduced the predation rate but that the magnitude of the effect was not large. Over the lower range of prey densities the effect appeared to be due to a decrease in search efficiency.  相似文献

Aerial dispersal of European red mite, Panonychus ulmi (Koch), in commercial apple orchards was estimated by trapping windborne mites. Studies were conducted at four orchards in eastern New York during 1989 and 1990 and at three orchards in western New York during 1989. In each orchard mites were trapped in three locations; the interior of the orchard, at the border of the orchard and in a field or woodlot beyond the orchard. Large numbers of mites were captured, even when the numbers of mites on apple foliage were well below levels where mite injury to leaves was visible (less than five per leaf). The log numbers of mites trapped were linearly related to the log density of mites on leaves and this relationship was consistent for each year and region the study was conducted. The trap captures among the three locations in and outside an orchard were highly correlated. The implications these findings may have on metapopulation dynamics and resistance to acaricide dynamics are discussed.  相似文献

We studied the relationship between counts of Panonychus ulmi (Koch) winter eggs per bud and mite-days per leaf accumulated in early to mid-summer on 92–96 apple trees in an orchard in Quebec, Canada. Stepwise regression was used to compute mite-days in the 4 year (1992–1995) data set using winter egg density, cumulative rainfall (R), cumulative degree-days (D), squared values of R and of D, and the product RD as potential predictors. Degree-days were accumulated above 10.1°C, the minimum threshold of development for P. ulmi in Eastern Canada. The 4-year model that gave the best fit included terms for winter eggs, rainfall, R 2, and the product RD, and explained 76% of the variation in mite-days. When the 4-year model was applied to each year’s data separately, winter eggs, adjusted for current year rainfall and degree-days, were always highly significant predictors of mite-days. These significant effects of weather indicate that estimation of potential economic loss should take account of rainfall and heat units, as well as the density of winter eggs. Predators, including the stigmaeid, Agistemus fleschneri Summers, and occasional low numbers of phytoseiids, did not have any evident within-season effect on mite-days but their appearance in July–September of 1994 was followed by a ten-fold decrease in the mean density of winter eggs in 1995 compared with the previous spring. This reduction contrasted with increasing densities each successive spring from 1992 to 1994, which followed summers when predators were scarce or absent.  相似文献

Photoperiod and temperature conditions known to induce diapause in tropical arthropods were tested on two generations (G0 and G1) of the phytoseiid, Euseius fustis. Failure to lay eggs or a pre-oviposition period longer than 15 days were the criteria used to determine whether females were in diapause. Females reared from egg to adult and held throughout adult life under cyclic temperatures of 29/20°C in combination with long photophases of 16L: 8D and 14L: 10D showed no indication of aestival diapause. Similarly, hibernal diapause was not induced in females reared under a constant temperature of 18°C and a photophase of 8L: 16D. Under the various test conditions, females initiated oviposition within an average of 4 days. Overall, pre-oviposition patterns for G0 and G1 females were similar under the same test conditions. Reproductive patterns based on the mean number of eggs per female per day varied only slightly between generations for the same treatments. No behavioural or morphological attributes associated with diapause were observed.  相似文献

The aims of this study were: (a) determine the prey stage preference of female Euseius hibisci (Chant) (Phytoseiidae) at constant densities of different stages of Tetranychus urticae Koch (Tetranychidae), (b) assess the functional response of the predator females to the varying densities of eggs, larvae, or protonymphs of T. urticae, and (c) estimate the functional response of E. hibisci when pollen of Ligustrum ovalifolium was present as well. We conducted experiments on excised pieces of strawberry leaf arenas (Fragaria ananassa) under laboratory conditions of 25 ± 2 °C, 60 ± 5% RH and 12 h photophase. Our results indicated that the predator consumed significantly more prey eggs than other prey stages. Consumption of prey deutonymphs and adults was so low that they were excluded from the non-choice functional response experiments. The functional response on all food items was of type II. The two parameters of the functional response were estimated for each prey type by means of the adjusted non-linear regression model. The highest estimated value a (instantaneous rate of discovery) and the lowest value of Th (handling time, including digestion) were found for the predator feeding on prey eggs, and a was lowest and Th highest when fed protonymphs. Using the jack-knife method, the values for the functional response parameters were estimated. The values of a and Th produced by the model were similar among all prey types except for the eggs, which were different. Using pollen simultaneously with prey larvae decreased the consumption of the latter over the full range of prey densities The suitability of this predator for biological control of T. urticae on strawberry is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of residues of esfenvalerate on oviposition of the resistant strain of the predatory mite Typhlodromus pyri and its main prey, European red mite Panonychus ulmi and two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae, were investigated. T. pyri showed a significant linear reduction in oviposition after 24h in the presence of increasing levels of esfenvalerate residue applied at the field rate. Furthermore, when given a choice, T. pyri preferred to lay eggs on residue-free surfaces. Of the two prey species, only P. ulmi showed significant avoidance of increasing levels of residues of the field rate concentration of esfenvalerate, as measured by runoff mortality, however both P. ulmi and T. urticae, when given a choice, showed a preference for esfenvalerate-free surfaces. As with the predatory mite T. pyri, both prey species showed a significant linear reduction of oviposition with increasing esfenvalerate residues and a preference to lay eggs on esfenvalerate-free surfaces. Esfenvalerate residues as high as 15X field rate were not repellent to pyrethroid-resistant T. pyri. The possible effects of these sublethal effects on predator-prey dynamics and implications for integrated mite control programmes in apple orchards are discussed.  相似文献

分别用丝瓜花粉、桔全爪螨、朱砂叶螨、丝瓜花粉+桔全爪螨、丝瓜花粉+朱砂叶螨作为食物,测定普通钝绥螨(Amblyseius vulgaris)在不同食物条件下的发育历期、繁殖力、死亡率及子代性比,并组建其实验种群生命表。结果表明,普通钝绥螨取食有丝瓜花粉存在的食物比单独取食桔全爪螨或朱砂叶螨发育快,产卵量大,子代雌性比高。在前者情况下,普通钝绥螨种群的内禀增长力(r_m)为0.209—0.259,净增率(R_0)为18.918—35.771,由于雌成螨产卵期长,其平均世代时间(T)较长,为15.295—19.529天;在后者情况下,种群内禀增长力为0.165—0.191。净增率为7.091—17.113。由于雌成螨产卵期短,其平均世代历期亦较短,为11.50—14.23天。本研究还分别用丝瓜、党参、七里香、养麦、紫云英、玉米、兰花、栎树、西瓜、油菜、向日葵和益母草等12种植物的花粉饲养普通钝绥螨。结果表明,只有兰花花粉不能使该螨发育至成螨;后5种花粉虽能使其发育至成螨,但不能产卵;其余6种花粉能使其完成发育并产卵,其中丝瓜、党参和七里香花粉饲养效果较好。  相似文献

Mites occurring on a number ofnatural and secondary (i.e., planted) hedgerowslocated in north-eastern Italy were monitoredwith particular attention being paid tophytoseiids (Acari: Phytoseiidae). Pollendiversity and abundance were analysed tohighlight potential relationships betweenpollen availability and phytoseiids. Secondaryhedgerows were structured in modules containinga single species (field maple, hornbeam,dogwood, hazel, and elderberry) andmodules containing a mixture of theabove-mentioned species. These hedgerows werelocated in an experimental farm where they werecontiguous to a vineyard. Natural hedgerowswere located in the same area. The pollen ofPoaceae was the most important component ofnon-arboreal pollen (NAP), and that ofelderberry of arboreal pollen (AP). Pollendiversity was higher on natural than onsecondary hedgerows. Generally, pollendensities reached relatively high levels fromlate April to late June and decreased insummer. Pollen was more abundant on naturalthan on secondary hedgerows and phytoseiidabundance showed a similar trend. On elderberryand hornbeam in natural hedgerows a potentialrelationship between pollen availability andthe abundance of phytoseiids, in particular ofEuseius finlandicus (Oudemans) was found.Experimental pollen applications increased thefecundity and the abundance of this species.  相似文献

To prevent the resurgence of the Kanzawa spider mite, Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida, on tea plants caused by the application of synthetic pyrethroid insecticides (SP), an SP-resistant strain of the predatory mite Amblyseius womersleyi Schicha was released onto tea bushes under SP (permethrin) application. The released predators successfully survived and may be able to suppress T. kanzawai. In the plot where A. womersleyi was released, the damage to new leaves was less severe than in the control plot and the predators remained resistant to the permethrin in the bushes. The selective use of pesticides that are harmless against natural enemies is necessary to achieve a program of integrated tea pest management. Although mortality of adult females of the tested strain in response to SP was from 6.5 to 89.3%, and mortality was more than 95% in response to several carbamate and organophosphate insecticides, usefulness of A. womersleyi as an agent of biological control was successfully demonstrated in the present study.  相似文献

Larvae of Epiphyas postvittana and Planotortrix octo were released onto branches cut from apple trees, and allowed to colonize a range of types of artificial nests. Both species exhibited similar strong preferences for nests comprising leaf-leaf or leaf-fruitlet combinations, followed by nests comprising leaf-plastic leaf, leaf-plastic fruitlet or plastic leaf-fruitlet combinations. Nests involving fresh plant material alone (shoot, fruitlet or leaf alone) were also colonized to a lesser extent, but no larvae were found on nests consisting of plastic leaves or fruitlets alone or in combinations of the two. In another experiment, more E. postvittana larvae colonized nests with leaf and fruitlet combinations, compared to leaf and glass ball, or leaf and treated wax ball combinations, where the wax had been in contact with fresh apples or fruitlets. Choice tests, conducted using larval traps, showed that larvae were caught in traps baited with odors collected and released by wax which had been in contact with mature apples and leaves. Chloroform extracts from apple skin also caught larvae in choice tests. These results suggest that both physical and chemical cues are important to leafroller larval establishment.  相似文献
