Preliminary taxonomic and agronomic investigation was made of close relatives of the faba bean (Vicia faba) to aid future plant breeding. Cluster analysis of 2 yr’s morphometric data showed thatV. johannis is clearly separable from other members of theV. narbonensis complex. AlsoV. faba was much more distinct from eitherV. narbonensis orV. johannis than they are from each other. Petal colours at anthesis provided a rapid method of field identification forV. faba, V. narbonensis, andV. johannis. The 2 varieties ofV. johannis can also be distinguished by their petal colours: var. procumbens shows a marked colour change at anthesis and var. johannis does not. The geographical distribution of the plant material studied suggests thatV. johannis is found in Turkey and Europe despite being omitted from the major published floras. BothV. johannis andV. narbonensis possess agronomically useful characters of importance to faba bean breeders, including increased frost tolerance and resistance to bothAphis fabae andBotrytis fabae.  相似文献

A number of fungi were found associated with stored cauliflower, common bean, and pea seeds, but onlyHelminthosporium sp. on cauliflower,Fusarium sp. on common bean, andAlternaria sp. on pea were proved pathogenic. Artificial inoculation tests withHelminthosporium sp.,Fusarium sp., andAlternaria sp. resulted in 30, 16.6, and 26.6 % pre-emergence injuries to cauliflower, common bean, and pea respectively. Also, these fungi were responsible for considerable post-emergence mortality of seedlings.
Zusammenfassung Eine Anzahl von Pilzen sind mit dem Samen von Karfiol, Bohnen und Erbsen vergesellschaftet gefunden worden.Helminthosporium sp. nur an Karfiol,Fusarium sp. nur an Bohnen undAlternaria sp. nur an Erbsen haben sich als pathogen erwiesen. Küristliche Einimpfung mitHelminthosporium sp.,Fusarium sp., undAlternaria sp. gab positive Resultate in 30, 16.6, und 26.6 % bezw. in Karfiol, Bohnen und Erbsen. Diese Pilzen waren auch für das Absterben junger Pflanzen verantwortlich.

For this study, 21 isolates of fungi belonging to Rhizoctonia and Fusarium genera were isolated from the diseased faba bean plants, obtained from the different localities in Assiut governorate, showing root rot and wilt symptoms. The isolates proved to be pathogenic on Masr 1 faba bean cultivar under greenhouse conditions. F. oxysporum isolates caused wilt disease; however, the isolates of R. solani and other Fusarium species caused root rot. The virulence of isolates on the tested faba bean cultivar was different. The highly pathogenic isolates of these fungi were employed in this study. The effect of soil amendment with Planta Rich and Rich Composts (CMs) alone or in combination with seed coating by the antagonistic yeast Pichia guilliermondi before sowing on the severity of Rhizoctonia and Fusarium root rot and Fusarium wilt of faba bean was tested under greenhouse and field conditions. The tested isolates of yeast proved to be highly antagonistic to the pathogen in vitro. The test rates of CMs were equivalent to 2, 7, 10 and 14 ton/feddan in the greenhouse and 7 and 10 t/feddan in the field conditions. Uncomposted soil was used as a control. The results showed that the tested CMs have a suppressive effect on the severity of root rot and wilt diseases of faba bean under greenhouse and field conditions. The application of CMs (Planta Rich and Rich) alone at the rates equivalent to 2, 7, 10 and 14 t/feddan in greenhouse and 7 and 10 t/feddan in the field conditions to the soil infested with the tested pathogens reduced percentage of the tested diseases compared with uncomposted soil. Combined CMs treatments with yeast seed treatment increased the suppressive effect of CMs on the disease severity.  相似文献

The incidence ofAlternaria spp. on seed samples of cruciferous vegetable crops was surveyed between 1990 and 1992. Some commercial seed lots of crucifers which are commonly grown in Japan were infested withAlternaria species. ThreeAlternaria species were encountered on the seed samples ofBrassica campestris, B. orelacea, andRaphanus sativus. The most frequently detected species wereA. japonica andA. alternata onB. campestris, A. brassicicola onB. oleracea, andA. japonica andA. alternata onR. sativus, respectively.Alternaria brassicae was not detected in this study.Alternaria brassicicola isolates from these crops produced necrotic lesions on all of the crucifer seedlings inoculated, whileA. japonica induced different reactions in different plants or plant parts depending on isolates used in inoculation tests. In contrast, most isolates ofA. alternata could not produce necrotic lesions on foliage leaves of crucifers inoculated, although some of them produced clear lesions only on cotyledons.Alternaria alternata associated with these cruciferous crop seeds was considered to be an oppotunistic parasite of these crops.  相似文献

A study was made of the daily content ofAlternaria andCladosporium spores in the atmosphere in Palencia city (Spain) for three consecutive years 1990–1992.Alternaria andCladosporium represented 55% of the total identified spores, presenting an annual distributional pattern of which the maximum values were reached in summer. Multiple regression analyses showed a positive correlation between minimum temperature andCladosporium spore concentrations, while forAlternaria there was a positive correlation with maximum temperature and a negative correlation with precipitation. Duncan's multiple range test among means ofAlternaria data indicated that winds coming from a northeasterly direction were associated with significantly higher concentrations the spores.  相似文献

通过田间小区试验,研究了小麦与蚕豆间作对蚕豆枯萎病发生和根际微生物代谢功能多样性的影响。结果表明,小麦与蚕豆间作使蚕豆枯萎病的发病率和病情指数分别比单作显著降低20%和30.4%。与单作处理相比,间作显著增加了蚕豆和小麦根际微生物对31种碳源的平均利用率(AWCD),其中间作蚕豆的AWCD值最高,比单作增加82.7%,单作蚕豆最低。间作蚕豆和间作小麦根际微生物的Shannon多样性指数与丰富度指数均显著高于单作,间作使蚕豆和小麦的丰富度指数分别增加29.2%和30.3%。根际微生物对六类碳源的利用强度百分比以糖类、羧酸类和氨基酸最高,分别为41.96%,19.80%和18.13%。主成分分析表明,小麦与蚕豆间作改变了根际微生物的群落组成;相关分析表明,糖类、羧酸类和氨基酸类碳源是区分单间作处理差异的主要碳源,其中氨基酸类碳源是最敏感的碳源。小麦与蚕豆间作增加了根际微生物活性,提高了Shannon多样性指数和丰富度指数,改变了微生物群落功能多样性,是抑制蚕豆枯萎病的有效措施。该研究为阐明根际微生物功能多样性变化在间作体系病害控制中的作用与机制奠定了理论基础。  相似文献

The successive qualitative microbial changes during the decomposition of bajra stalk in a sandy sierozem soil were studied.Alternaria spp.,Aspergillus spp.,Cladosporium spp.,Fusarium spp.Gliocladium spp.,Mucor spp. andRhizopus spp. were most common fungi. Identifying and quantifying crop stressors interactions in agroecosystems is necessary to guide sustainable crop management strategies. Over the last 50 years, faba bean cropping area has been declining, partly due to yield instabilities associated with uneven insect pollination and herbivory. Yet, the effect of interactions between pollinators and a key pest, the broad bean beetle Bruchus rufimanus (florivorous and seed predating herbivore) on faba bean yield has not been investigated. Using a factorial cage experiment in the field, we investigated how interactions between two hypothesized stressors, lack of insect pollination by bumblebees and herbivory by the broad bean beetle, affect faba bean yield. Lack of bumblebee pollination reduced bean weight per plant by 15%. Effects of the broad bean beetle differed between the individual plant and the plant‐stand level (i.e., when averaging individual plant level responses at the cage level), likely due to high variation in the level of herbivory among individual plants. At the individual plant level, herbivory increased several yield components but only in the absence of pollinators, possibly due to plant overcompensation and/or pollination by the broad bean beetle. At the plant‐stand level, we found no effect of the broad bean beetle on yield. However, there was a tendency for heavier individual bean weight with bumblebee pollination, but only in the absence of broad bean beetle herbivory, possibly due to a negative effect of the broad bean beetle on the proportion of legitimate flower visits by bumblebees. This is the first experimental evidence of interactive effects between bumblebees and the broad bean beetle on faba bean yield. Our preliminary findings of negative and indirect associations between the broad bean beetle and individual bean weight call for a better acknowledgment of these interactions in the field in order to understand drivers of crop yield variability in faba bean.  相似文献

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)/faba bean (Vicia faba L.) intercropping shows significant overyielding and high nitrogen (N)-use efficiency, but the dynamics of plant interactions have rarely been estimated. The objective of the present study was to investigate the temporal dynamics of competitive N acquisition between intercropped wheat and faba bean with the logistic model. Wheat and faba bean were grown together or alone with limited N supply in pots. Data of shoot and root biomass and N content measured from 14 samplings were fitted to logistic models to determine instantaneous rates of growth and N uptake. The superiority of instantaneous biomass production and N uptake shifted from faba bean to wheat with their growth. Moreover, the shift of superiority on N uptake occurred 7–12 days earlier than that of biomass production. Interspecific competition stimulated intercropped wheat to have a much earlier and stronger superiority on instantaneous N uptake compared with isolated wheat. The modeling methodology characterized the temporal dynamics of biomass production and N uptake of intercropped wheat and faba bean in different planting systems, which helps to understand the underlying process of plant interaction for intercropping plants.  相似文献

Multispecies cropping systems contribute to sustainable agriculture with multiple ecosystem services. Effects of intercropping of various crops with faba beans on growth and yield parameters and disease severity of root rot, damping off and broomrape were investigated. This study was implemented in the laboratory, greenhouse and field to investigate the effect of the intercropping systems (fenugreek + faba bean, lupine + faba bean, garlic + faba bean and sole faba bean). The intercropping systems were combined with the application of arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) and yeast as bio-control agents, compared to chemical application of herbicides (Glyphosate) and fungicides (Rizolex-T50), to control rot root diseases and broomrape weeds, Orobanche spp., of faba bean plants in vivo and under the naturally infested field. In vitro, yeast and Rizolex-T50 significantly inhibited mycelial growth of root pathogenic fungi. Intercropping with garlic and/or application of Rizolex-T, significantly decreased the incidence and disease index of root rot and damping-off diseases, meanwhile increased percentage of survival plants. In vivo, intercropping with fenugreek and/or application of Glyphosate, significantly reduced the number/weight of spikes/plot of broomrapes. Intercropping with fenugreek combined with AMF application promoted crop growth and significantly increased yield components. The AMF enhanced seed yield/ha when applied to the intercropping of faba bean + fenugreek and faba bean + garlic, showing the highest seed yield/ha with 3.722 and 3.568 ton/ha, respectively. Intercropping of faba bean with garlic integrated with AMF revealed the highest values of LER, 2.45, and net return, 2341 US$/ha. Our results suggested that using faba bean–garlic intercrop along with AMF inoculation can reduce root rot disease, damping off and broomrapes, as well as enhance the profitability of Egyptian farmer and sustainable production.  相似文献

Soil fusaria from various areas in and around Surrey were estimated on medium selective forFusarium. 4 species ofFusarium, F. episphaeria. F. oxysporum, F. roseum andF. solani were detected.F. roseum was the most widely distributed species and present in highest numbers. Among 3 cultivars of this species obtained, non-pathogenic clones of “Culmorum” was always present. The other 3 species ofFusarium were less widely distributed and occurred in lower numbers, withF. solani being the most restricted in distribution and present in very small populations. NoFusarium was recorded for soils from natural field vegetation (except grass areas) and forests.  相似文献

The combined effect of Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhizae (VAM) and Rhizobium on the cold season legumes, lentil and faba bean, as well as on summer legume, soybean, were studied in soils with low indeginous VA mycorrhizal spores. Inoculation of the plant with VA mycorrhizal fungi increased the level of mycorrhizal root infection of lentil, faba bean and soybean. The inoculation with Rhizobium had no significant effect on VA mycorrhizal infection percent, but VA mycorrhizal inoculation increased nodulation of the three legumes. The inoculation with Rhizobium alone significantly increased plant dry weight and N content of lentil and faba bean as well as seed yield of soybean. VA mycorrhizal inoculation also significantly increased plant dry weight and phosphorus content of the plants as did fertilization with superphosphate. Rock phosphate fertilization, however, had no significant effect on plant growth or phosphorus uptake. The addition of rock phosphate in combination with VA mycorrhizal inoculation significantly increased plant dry weight and P uptake of the plants. The dual inoculation with both rhizobia and mycorrhizae induced more significant increases in plant dry weight, N and P content of lentil and faba bean as well as seed yield of soybean than inoculation with either VA mycorrhizae or Rhizobium alone.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: A brassinosteroid-deficient mutant faba bean (Vicia faba 'Rinrei') shows dwarfism in many organs including pods and seeds. 'Rinrei' has normal-sized seeds together with dwarf seeds, suggesting that dwarfism in the seed may be indirectly caused by brassinosteroid deficiency. The mechanism of seed size reduction in this mutant was investigated. METHODS: The associations between seed orientation in the pod, seed numbers per pod and pod lengths with seed sizes were analysed in 'Rinrei' and the wild-type plant. KEY RESULTS: 'Rinrei' seeds are tightly arranged in pods containing two or three seeds. Seed size decreased as the number of seeds per pod increased or as the length of the pod decreased. Where no physical restriction occurred between seeds in a pod, the wild-type faba bean seeds had a nearly constant size regardless of seed number per pod or pod length. 'Rinrei' seeds in pods containing single seeds were the same size as wild-type seeds. Brassinolide treatment increased the seed size and the length of pods containing three seeds in 'Rinrei'. CONCLUSION: Seed size of 'Rinrei' is mainly regulated through a reduction of pod length due to brassinosteroid deficiency; physical restriction within pods causes a reduction in seed size. These results suggest a possible mechanism for increasing faba bean yields to optimal levels.  相似文献

Dust storms carry large amounts of plant detritus and microorganisms that may cause diseases in humans, animals or plants. These storms are frequent in Kuwait throughout the year. This research was conducted to identify the fungal species carried by the dust storms in Kuwait, originating from the northwesterly direction, with emphasis on plant pathogens. Fungi were isolated from settled dust samples and identified using established microbiological and molecular approaches. Fungal isolates identified as Fusarium oxysporum from settled dust were examined for pathogenicity using a number of crop plants. In total, 17 genera of fungi were identified in the dust samples. These fungi included plant pathogens or facultative plant parasites that were transported in the dust storms as viable propagules. The most common dust-carried fungi belonged to the genera Fusarium, Alternaria, Ulocladium, Phoma, Aspergillus, Acremonium and Penicillium. The F. oxysporum isolates that had been characterized by partial 18S rRNA gene sequencing were pathogenic, causing root and stem rot in tomato, bean and cucumber, but not squash.  相似文献

More than 300 groundnut (peanut) samples collected from different regions of Israel were examined by ELISA for aflatoxin contamination. Samples were designated for export, local consumption or for sowing. None of the samples were contaminated with the toxin. However, when kernels were kept at high humidity (RH?99%), aflatoxin could be frequently detected seven days after incubation and the toxin was not uniformly distributed among kernels.Aspergillus niger, A flavus, Penicillium citrinum andP pinophilum were the dominant fungi and no differences were observed among cultivars. Almost half of the commercial samples examined were devoid ofA flavus. Other fungi identified wereA tamaril, A amstelodami, P rubrum, Rhizoctonia solani, Macrophomina phaseolina, Rhizopus spp., Sclerotium rolfsll, Fusarium andAlternaria spp; the two last ones comprising a group of low incidence. Although groundnut samples that containA flavus—infected kernels are moderately common, the local climate and agrotechniques In use in Israel are not conducive to aflatoxin accumulation. Nevertheless infected kernels may become a threat to health if stored under inadequate conditions.  相似文献

Forty-eight durum wheat samples from 5 locations in Austria were examined forFusarium infection andFusarium toxin content.F.gramlnearum andF.avenaceum were by far the prevailingFusarium species In durum wheat kernels, followed byEpoae, F.culmorum, andF.equlsetl. Ion-paired HPLC analyses of the samples showed moniliformin contents of kernels up to 0.88 mg/kg. All moniliformin contaminated samples also contained high levels of deoxynivalenol (up to 8.2 mg/kg) and lower levels of zearalenone (<0.33 mg/kg). The levels of zearalenone in naturally contaminated durum wheat samples did not correspond to the high yields of zearalenone found in cultures of the fusaria isolated from the durum wheat kernels. These conflicting results as well as some toxicologlcal aspects of the carry over ofFusarium toxins from durum wheat kernels into pasta are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Root rot disease is very common in the bean, soybean, faba bean and pea plants growing areas in Samsun province. Disease incidence and severity were detected the highest at 93.8% and 55.4% in the bean growing area, and the lowest at 64.0% and 24.3% in the faba bean growing area respectively. In this study, a total of 2714 fungal isolates were obtained from some legume plants and soil samples. The most common fungi isolated from root and soil samples were Fusarium spp., multinucleate Rhizoctonia (MNR), binucleate Rhizoctonia (BNR) and Pythium spp. respectively. Fusarium spp. were isolated at high rates from all the examined areas. MN Rhizoctonia and BN Rhizoctonia were isolated both from inner and coastal areas of the province, whereas Pythium spp. were isolated in costal areas, except for the Vezirköprü district which is situated in the inner area. When looking at the interactions among pathogens causing root rot, it was found the great majority of the samples (30.4%) isolated both Fusarium spp. and MNR-BNR group fungi, whereas Fusarium spp. and Pythium spp. were isolated together from 10.9% of the samples and MNR-BNR and Pythium spp. from only 1.5% of the samples.  相似文献

Two strains (RCR 1001 and 1044) and a commercial inoculant (Okadin) ofRhizobium leguminosarum biovarviceae were tested for their ability to survive in autoclaved clay soil for up to four months under heat, salinity and drought stress. Resistance to heat was tested by incubating rhizobia in soil at 27, 37 and 42 °C. Tolerance of rhizobia to salinity was investigated by growing rhizobia in soil salinized with 1 and 2 % NaCl (m/m). Drought resistance was tested by subjecting bacteria to soil moisture contents of 20, 10 and 5%. Strain RCR 1001 was more resistant to heat and nodulated faba bean better than other tested strains. A commercial inoculant Okadin survived more (plate count method) and nodulated faba bean (plant infectivity, most probable number, MPN) at moisture content of 5% and 2% NaCl. Although, strains RCR 1001 and 1044 resisted these stress conditions (plate count) they lost their abilities to nodulate faba bean (MPN-test). There is a possibility for selection of effective rhizobia which are more tolerant to harsh conditions.  相似文献

Investigations were made on the effect of species of fungi isolated from therhizosphere of broad bean (Vicia faba Linn.) variety Giza I, and cotton (Gossypium barbadense Linn.) variety Giza 47, on plant growth. Broad bean rhizosphere fungi differently affected plant growth.Fusarium moniliforme, Penicillium martensii, Rhizopus stolonifer, andCladosporium sphaerospermum stimulated both root and shoot growth.Aspergillus niger andAlternaria tenuis have an inhibitory effect on plant growth. On the other hand, the rhizosphere fungi of cotton namely,Penicillium cyclopium, Aspergillus terreus, Cephalosporium sp.,Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium sphaerospermum, andFusarium oxysporum stimulated plant growth.  相似文献
