PurposeThis study investigated the effects of a combined endurance and strength training on the physiological and neuromuscular parameters during a 2-h cycling test.MethodsFourteen triathletes were assigned to an endurance-strength training group and an endurance-only training group. They performed three experimental trials before and after training: an incremental cycling test to exhaustion, a maximal concentric lower-limbs strength measurement and a 2-h cycling exercise. Physiological parameters, free cycling chosen cadence and the EMG of Vastus Lateralis (VL) and Rectus Femoris (RF) were analysed during the 2-h cycling task before and after a strength training programme of 5 weeks (three times per week).ResultsThe results showed that the maximum strength and the isometric maximal voluntary contraction (isoMVC) after training were significantly higher (P < 0.01) and lower (P < 0.01) than those before training, respectively, in endurance-strength training group and endurance-only group. The physiological variables measured during the cycling tests and the progressive increase (P < 0.01) in EMGi(VL) and EMGi(RF) throughout the 2-h cycling test did not differ between the two groups before and after training, except for the variation of EMGi(VL) over the cycle time which was stabilized during the second hour of the 2-h cycling test due to training in endurance-strength training group. The decrease in free cycling chosen cadence observed in pre-training (P < 0.01) was also replaced by a steady free cycling chosen cadence for the endurance-strength training group during the second hour of exercise.ConclusionThis study confirmed the decrease in the free cycling chosen cadence with exercise duration and demonstrated that a specific combined endurance and strength training can prevent this decrease during a 2-h constant cycling exercise.  相似文献

Fire Service Instructors frequently experience high levels of physiological and perceptual strain during live fire exposures. Instructors are also at risk of cardiovascular illnesses, with cardiac death being the greatest cause of fire fighter death. Current practice for UK instructors is to select undergarment type based on personal preference, between a boiler suit (BOILER) and a wicking base layer (WBL). Research suggests that shorts and t-shirt (SHORTS) may also be a beneficial alternative undergarment choice. The UK South East Fire Service requested an investigation to identify if undergarment selection can lessen the strain experienced by instructors, and reduce the acute inflammatory response to fire exposures. Eight males completed three 45 min sessions in a heat chamber (49.5±1.4 °C and 16.9±4.3% RH) whilst performing intermittent walking. At the end of heat exposure change in heart rate was not effected by garment type (p=0.061, ηp2=0.373). Change in rectal temperature was different between garments (p=0.009, ηp2=0.271), with trends suggesting that BOILER resulted in a greater change (1.03±0.60 °C) than SHORTS (0.76±0.37 °C, p=0.589, d=0.21) and WBL (0.72±0.33 °C, p=0.545, d=0.25). Interleukin-6 post exposure was greater for BOILER (6.96±0.28 pg mL−1) than both SHORTS (6.59±0.30 pg mL−1, p=0.043, d=0.42) and WBL (6.45±0.43 pg mL−1, p=0.031, d=0.51). Overall, undergarment type had little impact on physiological or perceptual strain. However, wearing WBL or SHORTS may reduce the inflammatory response, and consequently decrease the risk of cardiovascular events.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of multiple stress factors (thermal, nutritional and pregnancy type) on two different native track breeds of ewes as reflected by their adaptive capability under semi-arid environment. The multiple stressor experiment was conducted in twenty-four ewes (12 Santa Inês and 12 Morada Nova ewes). Both heat stress and pregnancy stress was common to all four groups. However, the animals were divided into further two groups within each breed on the basis of nutrition regimen. According the groupings were: Group 1 (Six Santa Ines ewes; heat stress; nutrition at 0.5% of BW; single pregnancy); Group 2 (Six Santa Ines ewes; heat stress; nutrition at 1.5% BW; twin pregnancy); groups Group 3 (Six Morada Nova ewes; heat stress; nutrition at 0.5% of BW; single pregnancy); Group 4 (Six Morada Nova ewes; heat stress; nutrition at 1.5% BW; twin pregnancy). All the animals in the experiment were pregnant. Heat stress was induced by exposing all animals to summer heat stress in outside environment while the nutritional regimen followed was at 0.5% and 1.5% level of body weight (BW) respectively in each breed. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with two breeds, two nutritional treatments and two pregnancy types, 10 repetitions for physiological parameters and six for blood parameters, with repeated measures over time. Physiological parameters (respiratory rate, pulse rate and rectal temperature) were measured with the animals at rest in the morning and afternoon, 0600-0700 and 1300–1400 h, respectively, every seven days. Blood samples were collected every 14 d for determination of serum glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, urea and creatinine. We found interaction effect between breed and pregnancy type on respiratory rate and rectal temperature with greater values in Santa Inês ewes than Morada Nova ewes. However, there was no significant fixed effect of pregnancy type and supplementation level on physiological responses of breeds. Environmental factor (period of the day) had influenced the physiological responses of ewes during all gestational period. Santa Inês ewes had greater serum glucose concentration at 105 d and 120 d of gestation compared to the Morada Nova ewes. Morada Nova ewes had greater concentrations of triglycerides, urea at 120 d, 150 d and also greater cholesterol at 105 d, 135 d and 150 d of gestation compared with Santa Inês ewes. The present result indicates that thermal condition was most important factor that modified the physiological responses of ewes in a semi-arid tropical environment.  相似文献

ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to measure hamstring muscle eccentric and concentric strength in individuals with and without low back pain (LBP). Two composite scores for the relative balance of eccentric to concentric strength at the different movement velocities were calculated (the DEC and SEC), to determine whether or not self perceived pain, disability, or fear avoidance measures were associated with hamstring strength characteristics.DesignCross-sectional repeated measures design.SettingUniversity laboratory.ParticipantsFifteen individuals with chronic LBP and 15 matched controls.Main outcome measuresIsokinetic eccentric and concentric strength at 30° s?1 and 120° s?1. Composite scores (DEC and SEC) based on peak torque were calculated to evaluate the relationship between the different muscle actions across the test velocities. Self report measures included the Oswestry disability index, general health and well being, fear avoidance, and pain.ResultsEccentric/concentric strength ratio at 30° s?1 was higher for the LBP group (F(1,58) = 4.81, p = 0.032). The SEC was also higher for the LBP (F(1,58) = 5.97, p = 0.018). Fear avoidance beliefs and mental well-being were significantly associated with the SEC only in the LBP group (adjusted r2 = 0.26, (F(2,27) = 5.8, p = .008). For the control group both the DEC and SEC were associated with self report measures. Matched differences between groups’ for the SEC were best explained by fear avoidance beliefs about work (adjusted r2 = 0.12, F(1,28) = 5.1, p = 0.03).ConclusionReduced concentric relative to eccentric strength is best identified by the SEC. The SEC was significantly associated with impaired self report measures of fear avoidance and mental well being in individuals with LBP. Differences between groups for the SEC were best explained by fear avoidance beliefs about work.  相似文献

IntroductionBright light exposure during the day has a positive effect on health and its deficit can cause multiple physiological and cognitive disorders, including depression. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of bright light therapy (BLT) on the quality of sleep and mood emotional state; cognitive status, global deterioration and quality of life in institutionalized elderly.Material and methodsThis is a study with repeated measures design. Thirty-seven older people admitted to a nursing home. The study lasted 3 weeks. The first week, the reference values were established with the Oviedo Sleep Questionnaire, Yesavage Depression Scale, Mini-Mental, Global Scale of Impairment and European Quality of Life Questionnaire. During the second week, they were exposed to BLT (7,000-10,000 lx at eye level) between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. During the third week, all the data were re-evaluated.ResultsAll variables improved significantly after the application of light therapy. Sleep (COS) pre-test 4.1 ± 1.49, post-test 4.9 ± 1.46, p: 0.01), mood (pre-test 3.65 ± 2.78, post-test 2.65 ± 2.9, p: 0.01), cognitive state (pre-test 22.72 ± 6.53, post-test 24 ± 5.92, p: 0.001), state of global deterioration (pre-test 3.10 ± 1.26, post-test 2.72 ± 5.92, p: 0.001) and health-related quality of life (pre-test 6.93 ± 1.86, post-test 7.82 ± 1.62, p: 0.001).ConclusionsSleep quality, mood, cognitive status, global deterioration status and quality of life significantly improved after the application of light bright therapy.  相似文献

BackgroundClinical studies have established aldosterone as a critical physiological and pathophysiological factor in salt and water homeostasis, blood pressure control and in heart failure. Genetic and physiological studies of mice are used to model these processes. A sensitive and specific assay for aldosterone is therefore needed to monitor adrenocortical activity in murine studies of renal function and cardiovascular diseases.MethodsAntibodies against aldosterone were raised in sheep as previously described. HRP-Donkey-anti-sheep IgG enzyme tracer was produced in our laboratory using the Lightning-Link HRP technique. Aldosterone ELISA protocol was validated and optimised to achieve the best sensitivity. The assay was validated by analysing the urine of mice collected under various experimental conditions designed to stimulate or suppress aldosterone in the presence of other potentially interfering steroid hormones.ResultsCross-reactivity with the steroids most likely to interfere was minimal: corticosterone = 0.0028%, cortisol = 0.0006%, DOC = 0.0048% except for 5α-dihydro-aldosterone = 1.65%. Minimum detection limit of this ELISA was 5.2 pmole/L (1.5 pg/mL). The validity of urinary aldosterone ELISA was confirmed by the excellent correlation between results obtained before and after solvent extraction and HPLC separation step (Y = 1.092X + 0.03, R2 = 0.995, n = 54). Accuracy studies, parallelism and imprecision data were determined and all found to be satisfactory. Using this assay, mean urinary aldosterone levels were (i) approximately 60-fold higher in females than males mice; (ii) increased 6-fold by dietary sodium restriction; (iii) increased 10-fold by ACTH infusion and (iv) reduced by >60% in Cyp11b1 null mice.ConclusionWe describe an ELISA for urinary aldosterone that is suitable for repeated non-invasive measurements in mice. Female aldosterone levels are higher than males. Unlike humans, most aldosterone in mouse urine is not conjugated. Increased levels were noted in response to dietary sodium restriction and ACTH treatment. The sensitivity of the assay is sufficient to detect suppressed levels in mouse models of congenital adrenal hyperplasia.  相似文献

PurposeThe purpose of our study is to evaluate the challenges in identification of postoperative complexes (POC), the utility of clips in delineation of clinical target volume for boost in LABC downstaged with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) and to correlate this with patterns of recurrence. Methods and materialsLABC patients who underwent NACT followed by BCS and radiotherapy (2007–2014) were the subject of our analysis. The data on visibility and characteristics of postoperative cavity (POC), concordance of its volume with clip volume on radiation planning scan were retrieved. A 1 cm margin beyond POC was delineated as a clinical target volume (CTV). Postoperative whole breast and supraclavicular radiotherapy (50 Gy/25fractions/5wk or 42.4 Gy/16#/3 wk) followed by boost (10−16 Gy/5-8#/1–1.5wk) were delivered. Patterns of recurrence were evaluated.ResultsOut of 60 patients, 28.3% patients had stage II disease and 71.7% had stage III disease. 25% patients achieved pathological CR (complete response). The median POC volume was 30 cc and the median clip volume was 40 cc. The concordance of POC volume with clip volume was seen in 80%. Clips served as a good surrogate for POC in 80% of patients. At a median follow-up of 65 months (IQ range 32–84 months), and a lost to follow-up rate of 11.6 %, 3.3% (n = 2) patients had local recurrence (LR) and 8.3% (n = 5) had regional recurrence (LRR) in the supraclavicular region.ConclusionsDelineation of post NACT excision cavity as POC for boost radiotherapy is safe. Clips serve as a good surrogate for CTV delineation in 75% patients.  相似文献

At present there is no standardised heat tolerance test (HTT) procedure adopting a running mode of exercise. Current HTTs may misdiagnose a runner's susceptibility to a hyperthermic state due to differences in exercise intensity. The current study aimed to establish the repeatability of a practical running test to evaluate individual's ability to tolerate exercise heat stress. Sixteen (8M, 8F) participants performed the running HTT (RHTT) (30 min, 9 km h−1, 2% elevation) on two separate occasions in a hot environment (40 °C and 40% relative humidity). There were no differences in peak rectal temperature (RHTT1: 38.82±0.47 °C, RHTT2: 38.86±0.49 °C, Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC)=0.93, typical error of measure (TEM)=0.13 °C), peak skin temperature (RHTT1: 38.12±0.45, RHTT2: 38.11±0.45 °C, ICC=0.79, TEM=0.30 °C), peak heart rate (RHTT1: 182±15 beats min−1, RHTT2: 183±15 beats min−1, ICC=0.99, TEM=2 beats min−1), nor sweat rate (1721±675 g h−1, 1716±745 g h−1, ICC=0.95, TEM=162 g h−1) between RHTT1 and RHTT2 (p>0.05). Results demonstrate good agreement, strong correlations and small differences between repeated trials, and the TEM values suggest low within-participant variability. The RHTT was effective in differentiating between individuals physiological responses; supporting a heat tolerance continuum. The findings suggest the RHTT is a repeatable measure of physiological strain in the heat and may be used to assess the effectiveness of acute and chronic heat alleviating procedures.  相似文献

Although the physiological strain index (PhSI) is universal and comprehensive, its restrictions are recognized in terms of invasive on-site measurements and the requirement of accurate instruments. The perceptual strain index (PeSI) has been proposed as a user-friendly and practical indicator for heat strain. However, the application of this index in assessing the heat strain of construction workers has yet to be examined and documented. This study aims to ascertain the reliability and applicability of PeSI in an experimental setting that simulates a stressful working environment (i.e., environment, work uniform, and work pace) experienced by construction workers. Ten males and two females performed intermittent exercise on a treadmill while wearing a summer work uniform at 34.5 °C and 75% relative humidity in a climatic chamber. Physiological parameters (core temperature, heart rate) and perceptual variables (thermal sensation, perceived exertion) were collated synchronously at 3 min intervals. The results of two-way repeated measures analysis of variance (clothing×time) revealed that the PeSI was useful in differentiating the heat strain levels between different work uniforms. Not only did the PeSI change in the same general manner with the PhSI, but it was also powerful in reflecting different levels of physiological strain. Thus, the PeSI offers considerable promise for heat strain assessment under simulated working conditions.  相似文献

The transfer of mussels from field to laboratory, or transplantation between clean and contaminated field settings, is a common protocol in ecotoxicology. However, collection and transport of mussels could lead to stress that may impact biomarker responses, and thus confound interpretation of results. Physiological responses (clearance rate, absorption efficiency, excretion rate, respiration rate and scope-for-growth) of green-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus) exposed to four different transportation protocols were investigated. These protocols included immersion in site seawater (SSW), immersion in artificial seawater (ASW), and emersion (aerial transport; EMS) at two temperatures (15 °C and 5 °C). Physiological measurements were conducted after a simulated 24 h “transport” phase and a 48 h “recovery” phase. Clearance rates were significantly inhibited by the EMS 5 °C and ASW protocols relative to SSW treatment, although the clearance rate of the latter recovered after 48 h. A similar pattern was observed for excretion and respiration rates for ASW. Decreased excretion rates for EMS 15 °C and respiration rates for EMS 5 °C were also recorded relative to values for SSW following “recovery”. Negative scope-for-growth was observed for all treatments except EMS 15 °C. These data suggest transport emersed at ambient air temperatures is the best method to maintain physiological health of green-lipped mussels.  相似文献

IntroductionPhysiological tremor, as a whole, can be influenced by changes in muscle activity. However, the origin of low-frequency physiological tremor oscillations has yet to be conclusively determined. It is possible that by experimentally manipulating muscular activity, a better determination of the origin of those low-frequency oscillations can be achieved. It was demonstrated that changes in joint angle modify characteristics of muscular activity. As such, we hypothesize that changes in wrist-joint angle will alter the characteristics of low-frequency physiological tremor oscillations.ObjectiveAssess the influence of changes in joint angle of the wrist on characteristics of physiological finger tremor.MethodsPhysiological finger tremor was recorded (n = 25) using a laser displacement system while the arm and hand were supported. The relative angle between the dorsum of the hand and the forearm was altered between conditions (135°, 180°, 225° and 270°), while the hand and the finger remained parallel to the ground. EMG of the extensors and flexors were also recorded.ResultsTremor amplitude was significantly altered by changes in wrist-joint angle. This was especially the case for lower frequency oscillations. In addition, electromyography properties of forearm muscles were also significantly modified by changes in wrist-joint angles.ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that changes in wrist-joint angle modify the characteristics of physiological finger tremor. This should be taken into account when interpreting tremor data as well as when developing tools to minimize tremor.  相似文献

Heat acclimation over consecutive days has been shown to improve aerobic-based performance. Recently, it has been suggested that heat training can improve performance in a temperate environment. However, due to the multifactorial training demands of athletes, consecutive-day heat training may not be suitable. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of brief (8×30 min) intermittent (every 3–4 days) supplemental heat training on the second lactate threshold point (LT2) in temperate and hot conditions. 21 participants undertook eight intermittent-day mixed-intensity treadmill exercise training sessions in hot (30 °C; 50% relative humidity [RH]) or temperate (18 °C; 30% RH) conditions. A pre- and post-incremental exercise test occurred in temperate (18 °C; 30% RH) and hot conditions (30 °C; 50% RH) to determine the change in LT2. The heat training protocol did not improve LT2 in temperate (Effect Size [ES]±90 confidence interval=0.10±0.16) or hot (ES=0.26±0.26) conditions. The primary finding was that although the intervention group had a change greater than the SWC, no statistically significant improvements were observed following an intermittent eight day supplemental heat training protocol comparable to a control group training only in temperate conditions. This is likely due to the brief length of each heat training session and/or the long duration between each heat exposure.  相似文献

PurposeExternal dosimetry audits give confidence in the safe and accurate delivery of radiotherapy. The RTTQA group have performed an on-site audit programme for trial recruiting centres, who have recently implemented static or rotational IMRT, and those with major changes to planning or delivery systems.MethodsMeasurements of reference beam output were performed by the host centre, and by the auditor using independent equipment. Verification of clinical plans was performed using the ArcCheck helical diode array.ResultsA total of 54 measurement sessions were performed between May 2014 and June 2016 at 28 UK institutions, reflecting the different combinations of planning and delivery systems used at each institution. Average ratio of measured output between auditor and host was 1.002 ± 0.006. Average point dose agreement for clinical plans was −0.3 ± 1.8%. Average (and 95% lower confidence intervals) of gamma pass rates at 2%/2 mm, 3%/2 mm and 3%/3 mm respectively were: 92% (80%), 96% (90%) and 98% (94%). Moderately significant differences were seen between fixed gantry angle and rotational IMRT, and between combination of planning systems and linac manufacturer, but not between anatomical treatment site or beam energy.ConclusionAn external audit programme has been implemented for universal and efficient credentialing of IMRT treatments in clinical trials. Good agreement was found between measured and expected doses, with few outliers, leading to a simple table of optimal and mandatory tolerances for approval of dosimetry audit results. Feedback was given to some centres leading to improved clinical practice.  相似文献

BackgroundOsteoporosis is characterised by loss of bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue microarchitecture that leads to fragility related to the risk of fractures. The aim of the study is to analyse the effects of a training program based on explosive movements and impact, assessed in a swimming pool, on body composition, explosive strength and bone mineral density in women over 60 years old.Material and methodsA total of 35 healthy physically active women (60 ± 4.19 years) were divided into a training pool group using multi jumps (JG) and a control group (CG). JG trained for 24 weeks, 3 times a week, an hour and a half per session. Body composition testing, explosive strength, and bone mineral density were assessed before and after the program.ResultsThere were differences in the explosive force (JG vs CG = P < .05 to .001) and the estimated power (JG vs CG = P < .05 to .002) between JG vs CG, with significant increases in JG. There were no significant differences in the percentage of fat and lean mass, bone mineral density lumbar and femoral between groups, although slightly significant increases in bone mineral density lumbar and femoral could be seen in JG after program implementation (JG pre-test vs JG post- test = P < .05).ConclusionsThe training program with impact and explosive movements assessed in a pool induces gains in muscle strength and power with slight adaptations in body mass index in women over 60 years.  相似文献

Physiological performance and tolerance limits in metazoans have been widely studied and have informed our understanding of processes such as extreme heat and cold tolerance, and resistance to water loss. Because of scaling considerations, very small arthropods with extreme microclimatic niches provide promising extremophiles for testing predictive physiological models. Corollaries of small size include rapid heating and cooling (small thermal time constants) and high mass-specific metabolic and water exchange rates. This study examined thermal tolerance and water loss in the erythracarid mite Paratarsotomus macropalpis (Banks, 1916), a species that forages on the ground surface of the coastal sage scrub habitat of Southern California, USA. Unlike most surface-active diurnal arthropods, P. macropalpis remains active during the hottest parts of the day in midsummer. We measured water-loss gravimetrically and estimated the critical thermal maximum (CTmax) by exposing animals to a given temperature for 1 h and then increasing temperature sequentially. The standardized water flux of 4.4 ng h−1 cm−2 Pa−1, averaged for temperatures between 22 and 40 °C, is among the lowest values reported in the literature. The CTmax of 59.4 °C is, to our knowledge, the highest metazoan value reported for chronic (1-h) exposure, and closely matches maximum field substrate temperatures during animal activity. The extraordinary physiological performance seen in P. macropalpis likely reflects extreme selection resulting from its small size and resultant high mass-specific water loss rate and low thermal time-constant. Nevertheless, the high water resistance attained with a very thin lipid barrier, and the mite’s exceptional thermal tolerance, challenge existing theories seeking to explain physiological limits.  相似文献

The catalytic activity of α-chymotrypsin in the enzymatic peptide synthesis of N-acetyl-l-tryptophan ethyl ester with glycyl glycinamide was examined in ionic liquids and organic solvents. The water content in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide ([emim][FSI]) affected the initial rates of peptide synthesis and hydrolysis. The activity of α-chymotrypsin was influenced by a kind of anions consisting of the same cation, [emim], when an ionic liquid was used as a solvent. The initial rate of peptide synthesis was improved 16-fold by changing from an organic solvent, acetonitrile, to an ionic liquid, [emim][FSI], at 25 °C. The activity of α-chymotrypsin in the peptide synthesis in [emim][FSI] was 17 times greater than that in acetonitrile at 60 °C, although the activity of α-chymotrypsin in the peptide synthesis gradually decreased with an increase in reaction temperature in [emim][FSI], similar to organic solvents. Moreover, α-chymotrypsin exhibited activity in [emim][FSI] and [emim][PF6] at 80 °C.  相似文献

IntroductionPerson-centered care (PCC) includes life story, a form of reminiscence therapy that can be useful in the treatment of dementia. We compared the efficacy of using a digital or conventional life story book (LSB) on depressive symptoms, communication, cognition, and quality of life.Material and methodsThirty one persons with dementia living in 2 PCC nursing homes were randomly assigned to receive reminiscence therapy based on the Neural Actions digital LSB (n = 16) or a conventional LSB (n = 15). Both groups performed 2 weekly sessions of 45 min for 5 weeks. Depressive symptoms were evaluated with the Cornell scale (CSDD); communication with the Holden scale (HCS), cognition with the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and quality of life with the quality of life scale for Alzheimer's (QoL-AD). The results were analyzed using ANOVA of repeated measures with the jamovi 2.3 program.ResultsBoth LSB improved communication skills (η2 = 0.115; p < 0.001), with no differences between groups. No effects on quality of life, cognition, or mood were found.ConclusionsIn PCC centres digital or conventional LSB can be useful in the treatment of people with dementia by facilitating communication. Its role on quality of life, cognition or mood is uncertain.  相似文献

A hot environment combined with physically demanding tasks can subject workers to a higher risk of heat stress. A series of regulations and guidelines have been proposed to design appropriate anti-heat stress work uniform to reduce body heat strain. The present study aimed to examine heat strain recovery in different anti-heat stress clothing ensembles after work to exhaustion in the heat. 10 healthy males performed intermittent treadmill running/walking to exhaustion, followed by 30 min passive recovery sitting in a climatic chamber, which simulated the hot and humid outdoor environment (34 °C temperature, 60% relative humidity, 0.3 m/s air velocity, and 450 W/m2 solar radiation). The participants took part in five wear trials in counter-balanced order, including Sportswear, CIC Uniform, NEW Uniform, ICEBANK Cooling Vest, and NEW Cooling Vest, which have different levels of cooling capacity. Core temperature, skin temperature, heart rate, sweat loss, ratings of perceived exertion, and thermal sensations were measured throughout the entire heat exposure period. Physiological heat strain indices, including the physiological strain index (PhSI) and the perceptual strain index (PeSI), were used as a yardstick to quantify and compare the rate of recovery. Significantly lower physiological strain was observed in the newly developed NEW Uniform and NEW Cooling Vest groups compared with the commonly worn CIC Uniform group during recovery. At the end of the recovery period, participants in NEW Cooling Vest achieved the highest recovery (42.18% in PhSI and 81.08% in PeSI), followed by ICEBANK Cooling Vest, Sportswear, NEW Uniform, and CIC Uniform. The cooling capacity of anti-heat stress clothing ensembles and the recovery time significantly affect the rate of recovery in PhSI and PeSI, which may benefit the industry by formulating the appropriate work–rest schedule by considering the clothing effect.  相似文献
