The African rats of the genus Arvicanthis have been widely studied during recent years to clarify species boundaries and phylogenetic relationships. The wide chromosomal variability of the genus has been highlighted in several studies, with each accepted species characterised by its individual karyotypes and others being revealed as cryptic species. In the present paper we report the karyotype and the C- and G-banding patterns of the two species A. nairobae and A. neumanni from seven localities of Tanzania, an area of the range poorly studied. The two karyotypes were compared to that of A. niloticus, which is considered to be primitive. The karyotype of A. neumanni is characterised by 2n = 53–54 and NFa = 62. This karyotypic variability depends on a widespread Robertsonian polymorphism. The karyotype of A. nairobae shows 2n = 62 and NFa = 78; it diverges from that of A. niloticus through one reciprocal translocation, five inversions and three heterochromatic additions. The comparison with the karyotypes of other species of the genus showed that A. neumanni belongs to the east African lineage (with A. abyssinicus, A. blicki, A. niloticus), while A. nairobae is closer to the central and the west African representatives which were all previously under the name of A. niloticus (ANI-2, ANI-3, ANI-4). The distribution of A. nairobae in east Africa opens new scenarios in the biogeographical pattern of evolution of the genus.  相似文献

A chromosome study of unstriped grass rats of the genus Arvicanthis (Rodentia, Murinae) in western and central Africa is presented. The observations extend the data available to 242 specimens from 59 localities. All individuals karyotyped belong to four karyotypic forms, or cytotypes, earlier described as ANI-1, ANI-2, ANI-3, and ANI-4 and are presumed to correspond to four distinct species. In order to provide diagnostic characters for these western and one central African Arvicanthis species, we standardized the chromosomal data available and developed a G- and C-banded chromosome nomenclature that allows easy species identification. Each form is characterized by a distinct geographical distribution, roughly following the biogeographical domains of western Africa, although their precise limits remain to be assessed. The sole area of sympatry detected is the region of the inner delta of the Niger River, where both ANI-1 and ANI-3 can be found. It is proposed that the three western African species ANI-1, ANI-3, and ANI-4 be renamed as A. niloticus, A. ansorgei, and A. rufinus, respectively.  相似文献

The Russian sturgeon, Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, is closely related to three other sturgeon species (A persicus, A. naccarii and A baerii), with populations in the Caspian Sea containing a cryptic lineage with an A. baerii‐like mtDNA profile. Using morphological evidence (morphometrics, meristics) and additional genetic analysis (cytochrome b gene and control region sequencing), cryptic lineages within the Russian sturgeon and their relation to other closely related species of sturgeons are further examined. These data indicate that three genetic forms exist within what is presently known as A. gueldenstaedtii. These forms include the pure A. gueldenstaedtii and A. baerii‐like individuals plus a third rare genetic form whose mtDNA is similar to the mtDNA of the Adriatic sturgeon, A. naccarii. Morphological comparison of the three forms and the Yenisei River A baerii indicates that although the three forms of A. gueldenstaedtii are not different from one another, all three significantly differ from the Yenisei River A. baerii. Competing explanations, including translocation and centre of origin hypotheses are considered. The three geneticforms of A. gueldenstaedtii likely colonized different geographic areas during different geological periods, and subsequently evolved in these regions independently into the species currently recognized as A. gueldenstaedtii, A. naccarii and A. baerii.  相似文献

Anillins are conserved proteins that are important for stabilizing and remodeling the actin cytoskeleton. Anillins have been implicated in cytokinesis in several systems and in cellularization of the syncytial Drosophila embryo. Here, we examine the functions of three C. elegans proteins with homology to anillin (ANI-1, ANI-2 and ANI-3). We show that ANI-1 and ANI-2 contribute to embryonic viability by performing distinct functions in the early embryo and gonad, respectively. By contrast, ANI-3 appears to be dispensable for embryonic development. ANI-1 is essential for cortical ruffling and pseudocleavage, contractile events that occur in embryos prior to mitosis. ANI-1 is also required for the highly asymmetric cytokinetic events that extrude the two polar bodies during oocyte meiosis, but is dispensable for cytokinesis following mitotic chromosome segregation. During both meiosis and mitosis, ANI-1 targets the septins, but not myosin II, to the contractile ring and does not require either for its own targeting. In contrast to ANI-1, ANI-2 functions during oogenesis to maintain the structure of the rachis, the central core of cytoplasm that connects the developing oocytes in the syncytial gonad. In ANI-2-depleted worms, oocytes disconnect prematurely from the defective rachis, generating embryos of varying sizes. Our results highlight specialization of divergent anillin family proteins in the C. elegans life cycle and reveal conserved roles for this protein family in organizing syncytial structures and cortical contractility.  相似文献

Variation at eight microsatellite loci was studied in Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus complex from five Transbaikalian mountain lakes. Samples from three lakes included two sympatric charr forms (dwarf and small) differing in trophic specialization, morphology and life cycle parameters. Sympatric forms were genetically closer to each other than to charr from other lakes which evidences their independent origin in each of these lakes as the result of sympatric speciation. In each lake, gene pools of sympatric forms were segregated to a different degree (estimates of F ST varying from 0.030–0.184 and those of ρ ST varying from 0.119–0.359). Hierarchical analysis of allelic frequencies variance (AMOVA) in Arctic charr from Lake Baikal, the Vitim, and the Olekma basins showed that variation among and within these basins accounted for 19.5% of the interpopulational variance each. In the AMOVA design, investigating differences among sympatric forms in three lakes these differences accounted for 7.1% of the total variance.  相似文献

Linuparus White, 1847 comprises three extant species, Linuparus trigonus (Von Siebold, 1824), L. sordidusBruce, 1965, and L. somniosusBerry and George, 1972, as well as 32 fossil species. Most fossil records are from North America and Europe, but the extant species are all confined to the Indo-West Pacific. Different colour forms in L. trigonus and L. sordidus have been noted, with Northern Hemisphere specimens generally darker in colour for both species. The phylogenetic relationships of the extant Linuparus species, including the colour forms, were investigated using mitochondrial 12S rRNA and COI gene sequence analysis. We found no genetic evidence to differentiate the colour morphs of L. sordidus, but the two colour forms of L. trigonus were clearly distinct at the species level. This is supported morphologically by a consistent difference in the shape of the thoracic sternum between the two forms. The paler coloured Southern Hemisphere form is described as a new species, L. meridionalis. Phylogenetic analysis shows that L. trigonus and L. meridionalis sp. nov. are derived sister taxa, while L. somniosus is basal within the genus. Thus the present results support the previous hypothesis that Linuparus was originated in shallow water.  相似文献

Barley‐pathogenic Pyrenophora isolates are P. graminea (PG), P. teres f. maculata (PTM) and P. teres f. teres (PTT), which cause foliar leaf stripe, spot blotch and net blotch lesions, respectively. However, the species are often indistinguishable by morphological and cultural characteristics. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis has been used to study the genetic relationship amongst 11 PG, 9 PTM and 23 PTT isolates from distant geographical locations. Using seven primers, 55 (52.38%) polymorphic DNA bands were detected out of 105 different fragments amplified in the three pathogens. Genotypic diversity was high as all but two PTT strains had distinct multilocus RAPD fingerprints. Unweighted pair‐group method with arithmetic average (UPGMA) clustering separated the isolates into three main clusters, corresponding to the three pathogens studied. No clear geographical substructuring was found. Nei's gene diversity analysis detected only small differences (max. 6.6%) in band frequencies but considerable levels of differentiation were observed among the pathogen species/forms. However, the variability among the Pyrenophora species/forms (max. 42.0%) was less than within species/forms (max. 58%). Nei's unbiased genetic distance values were in agreement with UPGMA clustering and gene diversity analysis: the two forms of P. teres showed higher divergence from one another (D = 0.132) than the distance found between PG and PTM (D = 0.094). The results suggest that the present taxonomical classification of these morphological taxa may not correspond to their phylogenetic relationship and that there is a very close genetic relationship amongst barley‐pathogenic Pyrenophora species, but genetic exchanges between them could be infrequent.  相似文献

A method for preparing various forms of acetylcholinesterase (A ChE) from chicken brain has been developed and they have been characterized in terms of kinetic parameters such as Km, rate constant (k), turnover number (kp), specificity constant (ksp), Vmax and half-life (t1/2). The solubility experiments show that, there are two major forms of A ChE i.e. water-soluble and membrane-bound A ChE (MBA ChE). The MBA ChE shows several subforms, and on the basis of percentage activity only three MBA ChE forms have been selected for complete characterization by various kinetic parameters. It was found that these three forms of MBA ChE demonstrate significant differences in their kinetic properties.  相似文献

Genetic differentiation and phylogenetic relationships of big‐scale sand smelt Atherina boyeri specimens from 23 sampling sites in Greece and one from a lake in Turkey were investigated. A total of 2180 base pairs (bp) corresponding to the partial sequence of the mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase I (coI), cytochrome b (cytb) and control region, as well as of the nuclear protein‐coding gene rhodopsin (rh), were determined for the 143 specimens studied. Phylogenetic analysis of each gene segment separately and of the combined dataset revealed the existence of three different and well divergent lineages in Greece. The first corresponds to the lagoon form, in which a clear distinction between the Aegean and Ionian Sea was observed. The other two correspond to the punctuated and non‐punctuated marine forms that have been previously reported. The fact that in the present study a population without black spots on the flanks is clustered with the punctuated form and vice versa, however, suggests that differences in colour pattern do not seem to be a sufficient marker to discriminate the two marine forms. In contrast, the presence of a different length insertion between transfer RNA (tRNA) glutamic acid (tRNAglu) and cytb genes in the lagoon and in one of the two forms of marine populations, and its absence from the rest marine‐form specimens confirms that this character is conserved and capable to be used for distinguishing the different forms. Even though the divergence values among the different forms were high, their phylogenetic relationships were not able to be resolved.  相似文献

More than 90% of potassium (K) in soil exists in forms of insoluble silicate minerals and cannot be directly utilized by plants. K-solubilizing bacteria (KSB) can improve soil fertility and plant growth as biofertilizers by decomposing silicate minerals and releasing insoluble K into soluble forms. The objectives of this study were to isolate and characterize KSB from rape rhizospheric soil and to evaluate their effects on ryegrass growth. In this study, 16 cultivable potential KSB were isolated from rape rhizosphere at first. Then, quantitative analysis revealed that three KSB strains, named S-15, S-17 and S-18, showed the best K mineral solubilizing ability and they were identified as Mesorhizobium sp., Paenibacillus sp. and Arthrobacter sp. Inoculating the three strains into available K limit soil increased available K content significantly. The result of the pot experiment revealed that the three strains increased ryegrass growth vigor, biomass yield and K uptake to different degrees in available K deficient soil. S-17 showed the most pronounced ryegrass growth promotion ability. Further studies are required to determine the effects of the three KSB on mobilization of K-bearing minerals under field conditions.  相似文献

Abstract— The multiple forms of acetylcholinesterase found in the electric organ of the eel Electrophorus electricus have been fractionated by differential solubilization from an ammonium sulfate precipitate by means of a column elution procedure (King , 1972). This procedure cleanly separates ‘native’ forms from ‘degraded’ forms, and subsequent sedimentation reveals three native and two degraded forms. All three native forms, in distinction to the degraded ones, are insoluble at low ionic strength and are shifted to higher sedimentation constants by limited collagenase treatment. These results suggest that the long (500 Á) tail seen previously on the native forms of this enzyme (Dudai et al., 1973; Rieger et al., 1973a, b) may contain collagen.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Why has the face veil become the centre of political debates about Islam in urban contexts? What kinds of experiences and ideas have animated its framing as a practice in need of regulation? Focusing on Spain, we argue that space and emotion are the key categories for explaining the micro-politics of face veil conflicts and that constitute face veiling as an object of contention “on the ground”. We suggest the notion of regimes of public space and highlight three central components: (1) understandings of ideal public space; (2) regimes of urban visibility; (3) emotional regimes. Taken together, these dimensions filter forms of inclusion and exclusion that emerge from regulatory practices and feed into graduated forms of urban citizenship and frame people’s sensibilities. The article also illustrates how the spatial analysis complicates the secular-religious dichotomy.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Ophryoscolecid ciliates from the order Entodiniomorphida show a series of morphological types which have been interpreted as an evolutionary lineage. In this study, ultrastructural information from three species—the ancestral Entodinium, intermediate Eudiplodinium maggii, and the advanced Epidinium—has been evaluated in terms of ophryoscolecid evolution. The infraciliature, nuclei, contractile vacuoles, cortex, and cytoplasm are all very similar and sometimes indistinguishable among the three species, suggesting a close relationship. The cytoalimentary system, however, shows considerable interspecific variation. The cytopharynx differs in position and extent of microtubules and microfilaments, varying in appearance from a microtubular to a microfilament-based mechanism while retaining similar component structures. The esophagus, a zone of cytoplasm extending from the cytopharynx and delimited by a microtubular/fibrillar wall, is rudimentary in Entodinium, sac-like in Eudiplodinium, and tube-like in Epidinium, where it also has convoluted walls and a sheath of fibrous material that suggest an expansible-contractile structure. These variations have been related to type of food particle ingested. The capability of the cytoalimentary systems seems to be increased so that the more advanced forms can exploit a food resource, in the form of large plant fragments in the ruminal fluid, not available to the simpler, ancestral forms, which tend to ingest small particles such as bacteria and starch grains. The original evolutionary lineage based on morphological studies using light microscopy is supported by our observations, in these three forms, of ultrastructural variations in the cytopharynx and in their relationship with diet via possible ingestion mechanisms. Additional support for this evolutionary analysis comes from preliminary studies of other ophryoscolecids in which the cytoalimentary organization is consistent with their positions relative to one another in the evolutionary scheme.  相似文献

茜草属为茜草科模式属,全球约80种,中国有近一半的物种,是茜草属的重要分布中心,大部分隶属于sect.Oligoneura。但是,该组内各种间的形态特征错综复杂,依靠单个性状不易划定种间界限。该研究在全面衡量sect.Oligoneura组内各种间形态特征的基础上,选取该组20种共171份标本,对其3个数量性状和28个定性性状进行聚类分析和主成分分析。结果表明:在主成分分析中,前3个主成分累积贡献率有46.88%,性状的累积贡献率增长并不明显,但该结果仍与聚类分析结果一致。对前3个主成分贡献较大的特征包括叶形(叶长宽比)、叶柄长度、叶脉、每轮叶片数和生活型等,这些形态性状也是该属传统分类学中重要的物种鉴定特征。该研究结果与分子系统发育结果基本一致,支持该组内ser.Chinenses、R.mandersii group、R.angustissima group和R.siamensis group类群的划分,但并不支持ser.Cordifoliae单独成系。sect.Oligoneura内除少数物种外,大部分物种界限均比较清晰。形态计量学研究为sect.Oligoneura甚至茜草属的物种鉴定与划分提供了重要的参考意义。  相似文献

The microtubule inhibitor nocodazole {methyl-5-[2-(thienylcarbonyl)-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl]-carbamate} prevented nuclear migration and nuclear division in yeasts and developing multicellular forms of the polymorphic fungus Wangiella dermatitidis. It did not prevent yeast bud formation during at least two or three budding cycles, and caused yeasts to accumulate as premitotic forms with one to three buds. Three distinct forms of -glucosamine 6-P (Gm 6-P):N-acetyltransferases (EC 2.3.1.4) were partially purified from human placental homogenates by carboxy methyl-Sephadex chromatography. Purification of forms I and II were 13.5-fold, while that of form III was 114-fold. All three forms had a pH optimum value of 9.7 in glycine–NaOH buffer. Enzymes II and III had a Km value for Gm 6-P of 3.0 mM, which was less than half of that observed for form I (7.1 mM). The corresponding Km values for acetyl CoA were 0.157 (form I), 0.187 (form II) and 0.280 mM (form III), respectively. Activities of all three forms were inhibited at high concentrations of either substrate. These enzymes were inhibited from 82 to 92% by 2.5 mM p-chloromercuribenzoate. The inhibition was largely reversible by inclusion of 2.5 mM dithiothreitol in the incubation mixtures. There was no requirement for divalent cations, as demonstrated by lack of inhibition of enzyme activity by ethylene diamine tetraacetate. The results are discussed in terms of differences among the enzyme properties of human placental, rodent and porcine liver forms.  相似文献

The formation of tissues is essential for metazoan development. During Caenorhabditis elegans embryogenesis, ventral epidermal cells migrate to encase the ventral surface of the embryo in a layer of epidermis by a process known as ventral enclosure. This process is regulated by guidance cues secreted by the underlying neuroblasts. However, since the cues and their receptors are differentially expressed in multiple cell types, the role of the neuroblasts in ventral enclosure is not fully understood. Furthermore, although F-actin is required for epidermal cell migration, it is not known if nonmuscle myosin is also required. Anillin (ANI-1) is an actin and myosin-binding protein that coordinates actin–myosin contractility in the early embryo. Here, we show that ANI-1 localizes to the cleavage furrows of dividing neuroblasts during mid-embryogenesis and is required for their division. Embryos depleted of ani-1 display a range of ventral enclosure phenotypes, where ventral epidermal cells migrate with similar speeds to control embryos, but contralateral neighbors often fail to meet and are misaligned. The ventral enclosure phenotypes in ani-1 RNAi embryos suggest that the position or shape of neuroblasts is important for directing ventral epidermal cell migration, although does not rule out an autonomous requirement for ani-1 in the epidermal cells. Furthermore, we show that rho-1 and other regulators of nonmuscle myosin activity are required for ventral epidermal cell migration. Interestingly, altering nonmuscle myosin contractility alleviates or strengthens ani-1's ventral enclosure phenotypes. Our findings suggest that ventral enclosure is a complex process that likely relies on inputs from multiple tissues.  相似文献

Summary A representative group of 190 rice types collected from North-East India along with four standard varieties, three of which were indicas and one japonica, was studied to understand the nature of genetic divergence. Preliminary grouping was done by canonical analysis and the resultant 42 groups were further classified using the D2 statistic.The final grouping resulted in nine divergent clusters. The three indica standards were found in three different clusters indicating the wide available variability among them. The japonica standard formed a separate group by itself. A majority of the North-East Indian types formed clusters with indicas, whereas some were intermediate and still others were closer to japonica or indica, thus indicating a series of intergrades bridging indica and japonica.Height followed by leaf area was found to be important for primary and 100-grain weight, followed by amylose content for secondary differentiation. It appears that natural selection as well as human selection might have operated for characters differentiating rice types in Assam and North Eastern Himalayas. Geographical distance was not found to be related to genetic divergence. The study suggests that O. sativa contains innumerable but divergent forms, and its classification into definite varietal groups on an arbitrary basis such as isolation barrier, sexual affinity or geographic distribution would be far from reality.  相似文献

Water voles from the genus Arvicola display an amazing ecological versatility, with aquatic and fossorial populations. The Southern water vole (Arvicola sapidus) is largely accepted as a valid species, as well as the newly described Arvicola persicus. In contrast, the taxonomic status and evolutionary relationships within Arvicola amphibiussensu lato had caused a long-standing debate. The phylogenetic relationships among Arvicola were reconstructed using the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. Four lineages within A. amphibiuss.l. were identified with good support: Western European, Eurasiatic, Italian, and Turkish lineages. Fossorial and aquatic forms were found together in all well-sampled lineages, evidencing that ecotypes do not correspond to distinct species. However, the Western European lineage mostly includes fossorial forms whereas the Eurasiatic lineage tends to include mostly aquatic forms. A morphometric analysis of skull shape evidenced a convergence of aquatic forms of the Eurasiatic lineage toward the typically aquatic shape of A. sapidus. The fossorial form of the Western European lineage, in contrast, displayed morphological adaptation to tooth-digging behavior, with expanded zygomatic arches and proodont incisors. Fossorial Eurasiatic forms displayed intermediate morphologies. This suggests a plastic component of skull shape variation, combined with a genetic component selected by the dominant ecology in each lineage. Integrating genetic distances and other biological data suggest that the Italian lineage may correspond to an incipient species (Arvicola italicus). The three other lineages most probably correspond to phylogeographic variations of a single species (A. amphibius), encompassing the former A. amphibius, Arvicola terrestris, Arvicola scherman, and Arvicola monticola.  相似文献
