We used a still-water swim channel in conjunction with open-flow oxygen and carbon dioxide respirometry to examine the energy requirements of river-otters (Lutra lutra L.) swimming voluntarily underwater in Neumünster Zoo (Germany). While at rest on land (5 °C), river-otters had a respiratory quotient of 0.77 and a resting metabolic rate of 4.1 W kg−1. This increased to an estimated 6.4 W kg−1 during rest in water (11–15 °C) and to 12.3 W kg−1 when the animals were feeding in the channel. River-otters swimming under water preferred a mean speed of 0.89 m s−1, and their energy requirements attained 11.6 W kg−1. Cost of transport, however, was minimal at 1.3 m s−1 and amounted to 0.95 J N−1 m−1. Accepted: 3 November 1997  相似文献

Physical, biogeochemical and photosynthetic parameters were measured in sea ice brine and ice core bottom samples in the north-western Weddell Sea during early spring 2006. Sea ice brines collected from sackholes were characterised by cold temperatures (range −7.4 to −3.8°C), high salinities (range 61.4–118.0), and partly elevated dissolved oxygen concentrations (range 159–413 μmol kg−1) when compared to surface seawater. Nitrate (range 0.5–76.3 μmol kg−1), dissolved inorganic phosphate (range 0.2–7.0 μmol kg−1) and silicic acid (range 74–285 μmol kg−1) concentrations in sea ice brines were depleted when compared to surface seawater. In contrast, NH4 + (range 0.3–23.0 μmol kg−1) and dissolved organic carbon (range 140–707 μmol kg−1) were enriched in the sea ice brines. Ice core bottom samples exhibited moderate temperatures and brine salinities, but high algal biomass (4.9–435.5 μg Chl a l−1 brine) and silicic acid depletion. Pulse amplitude modulated fluorometry was used for the determination of the photosynthetic parameters F v/F m, α, rETRmax and E k. The maximum quantum yield of photosystem II, F v/F m, ranged from 0.101 to 0.500 (average 0.284 ± 0.132) and 0.235 to 0.595 (average 0.368 ± 0.127) in the sea ice internal and bottom communities, respectively. The fluorometric measurements indicated medium ice algal photosynthetic activity both in the internal and bottom communities of the sea ice. An observed lack of correlation between biogeochemical and photosynthetic parameters was most likely due to temporally and spatially decoupled physical and biological processes in the sea ice brine channel system, and was also influenced by the temporal and spatial resolution of applied sampling techniques.  相似文献

This study describes the application of the laser photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) for quantification of total carotenoids (TC) in corn flours and sweetpotato flours. Overall, thirty-three different corn flours and nine sweetpotato flours were investigated. All PAS measurements were performed at room temperature using 488-nm argon laser radiation for excitation and mechanical modulation of 9 and 30 Hz. The measurements were repeated within a run and within several days or months. The UV–Vis spectrophotometry was used as the reference method. The concentration range that allows for the reliable analysis of TC spans a region from 1 to 40 mg kg−1 for corn flours and from 9 to 40 mg kg−1 for sweetpotato flours. In the case of sweetpotato flours, the quantification may extend even to 240 mg kg−1 TC. The estimated detection limit values for TC in corn and sweetpotato flours were 0.1 and 0.3 mg kg−1, respectively. The computed repeatability (n = 3–12) and intermediate precision (n = 6–28) RSD values at 9 and 30 Hz are comparable: 0.1–17.1% and 5.3–14.7% for corn flours as compared with 1.4–9.1% and 4.2–23.0% for sweetpotato flours. Our results show that PAS can be successfully used as a new analytical tool to simply and rapidly screen the flours for their nutritional potential based on the total carotenoid concentration.  相似文献

We report the distribution of major and trace element concentrations in epipelagic zooplankton collected in the Northern Gulf of California in August 2003. The Bray–Curtis index defined three element assemblages in zooplankton: (1) major metals, which included only two elements, Na (3.6–17.0%) and Ca (1.0–4.8%). Na had its highest concentrations in the shallow tidally mixed Upper Gulf, where high salinity, temperature, and zooplankton biomass (dominated by copepods) prevailed. Ca showed its highest concentrations south of Ballenas Channel, characterized by tidal mixing and convergence-induced upwelling, indicated by low sea-surface temperature, salinity, and zooplankton biomass; (2) Six biological essential elements, like Fe (80–9,100 mg kg−1) and Zn (20–2,570 mg kg−1), were detected in high concentrations in zooplankton collected near Guaymas Basin, which had high surface temperature and chlorophyll a concentrations. (3) Metals of terrigenous origin, such as Sc (0.01–1.4 mg kg−1) and Th (0.03–2.3 mg kg−1), and redox-sensitive metals, like Co (3–23.8 mg kg−1); this was the assemblage with the largest number of elements (15). Both types of elements of assemblage 3 had maximum concentrations in the cyclonic eddy that dominates the summer circulation in the Northern region. We concluded that sediment resuspension by tidal mixing in the Upper Gulf, upwelling south of Ballenas Channel, and the cyclonic eddy were key oceanographic features that affected the element concentrations of epipelagic zooplankton in the Northern Gulf of California. Oceanographic mechanisms such as these may contribute to element incorporation in marine organisms in other seas.  相似文献

To assess the short- and long-term impacts of UV radiation (UVR, 280–400 nm) on the microalga Scrippsiella trochoidea, we exposed cells to three different radiation treatments (PAB: 280–700 nm, PA: 320–700 nm, and P: 400–700 nm). A significant decrease in the photochemical efficiency (ΦPSII) at high irradiance (100% of incident solar radiation, 216.0 W m−2) was observed. Photoinhibition was reduced from 62.7 to 10.9% when the cells were placed in 12% solar radiation (26.1 W m−2). In long-term experiments (11 days) using batch cultures, cell densities during the first 5 days were decreased under treaments P, PA, and PAB, reflecting a change in the irradiance experienced in the laboratory to that of incident solar irradiance. Thereafter, specific growth rates increased and UV-induced photoinhibition decreased, indicating acclimation to solar UV. Cells were found to exhibit both higher ratios of repair to UV-related damage, shorter period for recovery and increased concentrations of UV-absorbing compounds (UVabc), whose maximum absorption was found to be at 336 nm. Our data indicate that S. trochoidea is sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, but was able to acclimate relatively rapidly (ca. 6 days) by synthesizing UVabc and by increasing the rates of repair processes of D1 protein in PSII.  相似文献

Effects of selenium (Se) on growth and some physiological traits of roots in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv Han NO.7086) seedlings exposed to enhanced ultraviolet-B (UV-B) stress are reported. Responses of roots were different depending on the Se concentration. Compared with the control, root weight of wheat seedlings treated with 1.0 and 2.0 mg Se kg−1 soil increased by 39.47% and 16.28%, respectively. The lower amount Se (0.5 mg kg−1) and the higher amount Se treatments (3.0 mg kg−1) did not significantly affect on root weight. Se treatments significantly increased root activity, flavonoids and proline content, and activities of peroxidase and superoxide dimutase in wheat roots exposed to enhanced UV-B. In addition, the treatments with 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mg Se kg−1 significantly reduced malondialdehyde content and the rate of superoxide radical (O2) production of roots, whereas the higher amount Se treatment only induced a decrease in the rate of O2 production. The results of this study demonstrated that optimal Se supply promoted roots growth of wheat seedlings, and that optimal Se supply could reduce oxidative stress in wheat roots under enhanced UV-B radiation.  相似文献

Seventy-seven anaesthetic events were carried out in 22 captive adult Black bucks (Antilope cervicapra) of either sex with a combination of 2 mg kg−1 ketamine hydrochloride with 0.25 mg kg−1 xylazine hydrochloride using a dart delivered from a blowpipe. Randomised anaesthetised animals received an intravenous injection of either yohimbine hydrochloride (0.125 or 0.25 mg kg−1) or tolazoline hydrochloride (1 or 2 mg kg−1) after 30–40 min of anaesthesia to antagonise the anaesthetic effects. Ketamine–xylazine induced smooth, rapid and reliable anaesthesia within 5–7 min of darting with no clinical adverse effects and causalities during or post-anaesthesia. Yohimbine failed to antagonise the anaesthetic effects of ketamine–xylazine in the Black buck. On the other hand, tolazoline was found to be very effective in hastening recovery in dose-dependent manner within 0.5–1.5 min. This study documents the first report of ketamine–xylazine anaesthesia and its antagonism by tolazoline in captive Black buck.  相似文献

Banana plantlets (Musa acuminata cv Grande Naine) cultivated in hydroponics take up silicon proportionally to the concentration of Si in the nutrient solution (0–1.66 mM Si). Here we study the Si status of banana plantlets grown under controlled greenhouse conditions on five soils developed from andesitic volcanic ash, but differing in weathering stage. The mineralogical composition of soils was inferred from X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis and selective chemical/mineralogical extractions. With increasing weathering, the content of weatherable primary minerals decreased. Conversely, clay content increased and stable secondary minerals were increasingly dominant: gibbsite, Fe oxides, allophane, halloysite and kaolinite. The contents of biogenic Si in plant and soil were governed by the reserve of weatherable primary minerals. The largest concentrations of biogenic Si in plant (6.9–7 g kg−1) and soil (50–58 g kg−1) occurred in the least weathered soils, where total Si content was above 225 g kg−1. The lowest contents of biogenic Si in plant (2.8–4.3 g kg−1) and soil (8–31 g kg−1) occurred in the most weathered desilicated soils enriched with secondary oxides and clay minerals. Our data imply that soil weathering stage directly impacted the soil-to-plant transfer of silicon, and thereby the stock of biogenic Si in a soil–plant system involving a Si-accumulating plant. They further imply that soil type can influence the silicon soil–plant cycle and its hydrological output.  相似文献

Potentially poplars and willows may be used for the in situ decontamination of soils polluted with Cd, such as pasturelands fertilised with Cd-rich superphosphate fertiliser. Poplar (Kawa and Argyle) and willow (Tangoio) clones were grown in soils containing a range (0.6–60.6 μg g−1 dry soil) of Cd concentrations. The willow clone accumulated significantly more Cd (9–167 μg g−1 dry matter) than the two poplar clones (6–75 μg g−1), which themselves were not significantly different. Poplar trees (Beaupré) sampled in situ from a contaminated site near the town of Auby, Northern France, were also found to accumulate significant quantities (up to 209 μg g−1) of Cd. The addition of chelating agents (0.5 and 2 g kg−1 EDTA, 0.5 g kg−1 DTPA and 0.5 g kg−1NTA) to poplar (Kawa) clones caused a temporary increase in uptake of Cd. However, two of the chelating agents (2 g kg−1 EDTA and 0.5 g kg−1 NTA) also resulted in a significant reduction in growth, as well as abscission of leaves. If the results obtained in these pot experiments can be realised in the field, then a single crop of willows could remove over 100 years worth of fertiliser-induced Cd contamination from pasturelands. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Drinking in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) juveniles was investigated in fresh water and following transfer to sea water. There was a significant effect of fish size on drinking, and smolts (20–30 g) imbibed about ten times less water than alevins of 0.2–0.3 g. Freshwater smolts drank at a rate of 0.15 ± 0.03 ml · kg−1 · h−1 and administration of doses of 10 or 20 mg · kg−1 of papaverine (stimulator of the renin- angiotensin system RAS) or [Asn1, Val5]-Angiotensin II (0.4 μmol · kg−1) resulted in significant increases in drinking, while administration of the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, enalapril (50 mg · kg−1) had no effect on drinking. Transfer of Atlantic salmon smolts to 1/3, 2/3 and full strength sea water resulted in significant increases in drinking to 1.06 ± 0.12, 1.24 ± 0.0.16 and 3.89 ± 0.28 ml · kg−1 · h−1, respectively. In sea water, stimulation of the endogenous RAS by administration of papaverine (20 mg · kg−1) resulted in a 20% increase in drinking, while administration of enalapril to doses of 50 and 200 mg · kg−1 lowered drinking to 1.99 ± 0.48 and 0.32 ± 0.06 ml · kg−1 · h−1, respectively. All treatments were without effect on blood plasma levels of Na+ and Cl in fresh water, while in sea water smolts both stimulation and inhibition of drinking resulted in hemoconcentration of Na+ and Cl. The role of the renin angiotensin system in control of drinking and hydromineral balance in Atlantic salmon is discussed. Accepted: 27 February 1997  相似文献

Three groups of specialist nectar-feeders covering a continuous size range from insects, birds and bats have evolved the ability for hovering flight. Among birds and bats these groups generally comprise small species, suggesting a relationship between hovering ability and size. In this study we established the scaling relationship of hovering power with body mass for nectar-feeding glossophagine bats (Phyllostomidae). Employing both standard and fast-response respirometry, we determined rates of gas exchange in Hylonycteris underwoodi (7 g) and Choeronycteris mexicana (13–18 g) during hover-feeding flights at an artificial flower that served as a respirometric mask to estimate metabolic power input. The O2 uptake rate ( o2) in ml g−1 h−1 (and derived power input) was 27.3 (1.12 W or 160 W kg−1) in 7-g Hylonycteris and 27.3 (2.63 W or 160 W kg−1) in 16.5-g Choeronycteris and thus consistent with measurements in 11.9-g Glossophagasoricina (158 W kg−1, Winter 1998). o2 at the onset of hovering was also used to estimate power during forward flight, because after a transition from level forward to hovering flight gas exchange rates initially still reflect forward flight rates. o2 during short hovering events (<1.5 s) was 19.0 ml g−1 h−1 (1.8 W) in 16-g Choeronycteris, which was not significantly different from a previous, indirect estimate of the cost of level forward flight (2.1 W, Winter and von Helversen 1998). Our estimates suggest that power input during hovering flight P h (W) increased with body mass M (kg) within 13–18-g Choeronycteris (n = 4) as P h  = 3544 (±2057 SE) M 1.76 (±0.21 SE) and between different glossophagine bat species (n = 3) as P h  = 128 (±2.4 SE) M 0.95 (±0.034 SE). The slopes of three scaling functions for flight power (hovering, level forward flight at intermediate speed and submaximal flight power) indicate that: 1. The relationship between flight power to flight speed may change with body mass in the 6–30-g bats from a J- towards a U-shaped curve. 2. A metabolic constraint (hovering flight power equal maximal flight power) may influence the upper size limit of 30–35 g for this group of flower specialists. Mass-specific power input (W kg−1) during hovering flight appeared constant with regard to body size (for the mass ranges considered), but differed significantly (P < 0.001) between groups. Group means were 393 W kg−1 (sphingid moths), 261 W kg−1 (hummingbirds) and 159 W kg−1 (glossophagine bats). Thus, glossophagine bats expend the least metabolic power per unit of body mass supported during hovering flight. At a metabolic power input of 1.1 W a glossophagine bat can generate the lift forces necessary for balancing 7 g against gravitation, whereas a hummingbird can support 4 g and a sphingid moth only 3 g of body mass with the same amount of metabolic energy. These differences in power input were not fully explained by differences in induced power output estimated from Rankine-Froude momentum-jet theory. Accepted: 10 November 1998  相似文献

Pea (Pisum sativum L., cv. Scinado) seedlings were exposed to low doses of ultraviolet-B (UV-B; 4.4 and 13.3 kJ m−2 d−1) or UV-C (0.1 and 0.3 kJ m−2 d−1) radiation for 14 d. Aminocyclopropane carboxylic acid (ACC), indoleacetic acid (IAA) and abscisic acid (ABA) contents were quantified by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The accumulation of ACC upon irradiation was dose-dependent. ABA content was reduced and IAA content increased upon UV-C treatment whereas the UV-B doses used did not cause significant changes in ABA and IAA contents.  相似文献

The interaction effects between irradiance and temperature on growth rates ofNannochloropsis oceanicawere determined in both laboratory cultures and large-scale tubular photobioreactors. Growth responses were investigated in 48 batch cultures subjected to crossing light/temperature gradients ranging from 34–80μmol photons m−2s−1and 14.5–35.7C respectively. Comparisons were made to growth responses observed in production systems (200L biofences) operated in climate-regulated greenhouses with controlled temperature and artificial light gradients. Cellular responses showed increasing specific growth rates as a function of temperature, with a peak at 25–29C, after which the growth became increasingly unstable. The optimum temperature for growth increased with higher light intensities up to approximately 28C at 80μmol photons m−2s−1. At low light intensities the specific growth rate was less affected by temperature. The maximum daily production measured in the biofence systems increased proportionally with irradiation and reached approximately 0.7gL−1d−1at 1030μmol photons m−2s−1average daily radiation for a culture temperature of 24C. This corresponds to a daily yield of 140g per day in a 200L biofence system. When specific growth rates for the biofence cultures were measured at different densities and plotted against temperature, results showed a peak with the 24C temperature treatment. This peak became less pronounced as the density increased in the cultures. This is consistent with the laboratory results; increasing cell density in the biofence cultures resulted in less average light cell−1, which produced the same temperature dependent response as seen by reducing the external irradiance exposure for the dilute laboratory cultures.  相似文献

Geotrichum klebahnii ATCC 42397 produces a protopectinase (PPase-SE) with polygalacturonase (PGase) activity. The microorganism was aerobically cultivated in synthetic media. Glucose, fructose and xylose yielded the highest enzyme levels (10–11 PGase units ml−1). Galacturonic acid repressed enzyme production and no growth was obtained with disaccharides and pectin. Specific enzyme activity obtained in an O2-limited culture was similar to that found in nonlimited ones. A growth yield (Y x/s) of 0.49 g of cell dry weight per gram of glucose consumed was obtained in a typical batch bioreactor culture. Enzyme production was growth associated, and no major products other than biomass and CO2 were detected. The volumetric enzyme activity reached a maximum around D=0.3–0.4 h−1 in glucose-limited continuous cultures. However, it varied strongly (together with microorganism morphology) even after retention times ≥8 at any D tested (0.035–0.44 h−1) though the rest of the culture variables remained fairly constant. No correlation between morphology and enzyme activity could be obtained. Enzyme production was poor in urea- and vitamin-limited continuous cultures. In all cases, biomass and CO2 accounted for ≅100% of carbon recovery though Y x/s values were different. Journal of Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology (2000) 25, 260–265. The Fusarium diversity and the mycobiota associated with moldy wheat kernels from Santa Fe province, Argentine, was assessed. The wheat cultivated area in Santa Fe province is divided according to agrometeorological conditions into two zones: Zone I (north-central) and Zone II (south). The natural occurrence of Fusarium toxins BEA, FUP, DON and NIV was also determined. Cladosporium was the most abundant of the 19 genera identified, followed by Fusarium, Phoma and Alternaria. Zone II shows a predominance of F. graminearum and F. culmorum. In Zone I, DON was present in 13/32 samples (range 0.43–3.60 mg kg−1) and NIV in 6/32 samples (range 0.11–0.40 mg kg−1). In zone II, DON was found in 11/21 samples (range 0.57–9.50 mg kg−1) and NIV in 4/21 samples (range 0.10–0.60 mg kg−1). BEA and FP were not detected in both zones.  相似文献

The effect of osmotic stress on cell growth and phenylethanoid glycosides (PeGs) biosynthesis was investigated in cell suspension cultures of Cistanche deserticola Y. C. Ma, a desert medicinal plant grown in west region of China. Various initial sucrose concentrations significantly affected cell growth and PeGs biosynthesis in the suspension cultures, and the highest dry weight and PeGs accumulation reached 15.9 g l−1-DW and 20.7 mg g−1-DW respectively at the initial osmotic stress of 300 mOsm kg−1 where the sucrose concentration was 175.3 mM. Stoichiometric analysis with different combinations of sucrose and non-metabolic sugar (mannitol) or non-sugar osmotic agents (PEG and NaCl) revealed that osmotic stress itself was an important factor for enhancing PeGs biosynthesis in cell suspension cultures of C. deserticola. The maximum PeGs contents of 26.9 and 23.8 mg g−1-DW were obtained after 21 days at the combinations of 87.6 mM sucrose with 164.7 mM mannitol (303 mOsm kg−1) or 20 mM PEG respectively, which was higher than that of C. deserticola cell cultures grown under an initial sucrose concentration of 175.3 mM after 30 days. The stimulated PeGs accumulation in the cell suspension cultures was correlated to the increase of phenylalanine ammonium lyase (PAL) activity induced by osmotic stress.  相似文献

Microcoleus chthonoplastes constitutes one of the dominant microorganisms in intertidal microbial mat communities. In the laboratory, the effects of repeated daily exposure to ultraviolet radiation (16:8 light:dark cycle) was investigated in unicyanobacterial cultures isolated from three different localities (Baltic Sea = WW6; North Sea = STO and Brittany = BRE). Photosynthesis and growth were measured in time series (12–15 days) while UV-absorbing mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) and cellular integrity were determined after 12 and 3 days exposure to three radiation treatments [PAR (22 μmol photon m−2 s−1) = P; PAR + UV-A (8 W m−2) = PA; PAR + UV-A + UV-B (0.4 W m−2) = PAB]. Isolate-specific responses to UVR were observed. The proximate response to radiation stress after 1-day treatment showed that isolate WW6 was the most sensitive to UVR. However, repeated exposure to radiation stress indicated that photosynthetic efficiency (F v/F m) of WW6 acclimated to UVR. Conversely, although photosynthesis in STO exhibited lower reduction in F v/F m during the first day, the values declined over time. The BRE isolate was the most tolerant to radiation stress with the lowest reduction in F v/F m sustained over time. While photosynthetic efficiencies of different isolates were able to acclimate to UVR, growth did not. The discrepancy seems to be due to the higher cell density used for photosynthesis compared to the growth measurement. Apparently, the cell density used for photosynthesis was not high enough to offer self-shading protection because cellular damage was also observed in those filaments under UVR. Most likely, the UVR acclimation of photosynthesis reflects predominantly the performance of the surviving cells within the filaments. Different strategies were observed in MAAs synthesis. Total MAAs content in WW6 was not significantly different between all the radiation treatments. In contrast, the additional fluence of UV-A and UV-B significantly increased MAAs synthesis and accumulation in STO while only UV-B fluence significantly increased MAAs content in BRE. Regardless of the dynamic photosynthetic recovery process and potential UV-protective functions of MAAs, cellular investigation showed that UV-B significantly contributed to an increased cell mortality in single filaments. In their natural mat habitat, M. chthonoplastes benefits from closely associated cyanobacteria which are highly UVR-tolerant due to the production of the extracellular UV-sunscreen scytonemin.  相似文献

An ecotype of brake fern (Pteris vittata) was assessed for arsenic tolerance and accumulation in its biomass under in vivo and in vitro condition; using soil, and agar-gelled Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with different concentrations of arsenic. The plants were raised in soil amended with 100–1000 mg arsenic kg−1 soil, and MS medium was supplemented with 10–300 mg arsenic 1−1 medium using Na2HAsO4 · 7H2O. The spores and haploid gametophytic-prothalli were raised in vitro on MS medium supplemented with arsenic. The field plants showed normal growth and biomass formation in arsenic amended soil, and accumulated 1908–4700 mg arsenic kg−1 dry aerial biomass after 10 weeks of growth. Arsenic toxicity was observed above >200 mg arsenic kg−1 soil. The concentrations of arsenic accumulated in the plant biomass were statistically significant (p < 0.05). Normal plants were developed from spores and gametophyte prothalli on the MS media supplemented with 50–200 mg arsenic 1−1 medium. The in vitro raised plants were tolerant to 300 mg arsenic kg−1 of soil and accumulated up to 3232 mg arsenic kg−1 dry aerial biomass that showed better growth performance, biomass generation and arsenic accumulation in comparison to the field plants. Effects of cerium (Ce) on photosynthetic pigments and photochemical reaction activity in soybean (Glycine max L.) under ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation stress were studied under laboratory conditions. UV-B radiation caused the decrease in chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate, Hill reaction activity, photophosphorylation rate and Mg2+-ATPase activity. Ce (III) (20 mg L−1) could alleviate UV-B-induced inhibition to these photosynthetic parameters because values of these photosynthetic parameters in Ce (III) + UV-B treatment were obviously higher than those with UV-B treatment alone. Dynamic changes of the above photosynthetic parameters show that Ce (III) could slow down the decrease rate of these photosynthetic parameters during a 5-day UV-B radiation and quicken the restoration during recovery period. The final restoration degree of five parameters mentioned above in leaves exposed to low level of UV-B radiation (0.15 W m2) was higher than that exposed to high level (0.45 W m2). Correlating net photosynthetic rate with other four parameters, we found that the regulating mechanisms Ce (ΠΙ) on photosynthesis under various level of UV-B radiation were not the same. The protective effects of Ce (III) on photosynthesis in plants were influenced by the intensity of UV-B radiation.  相似文献

Synopsis Blood samples from cannulated young adult (2.5–15 kg) white sturgeon, acclimated to San Francisco Bay water (24 ppt) had plasma values of 248.8 ± 13.5 mOsm kg−1 H2O, [Na+] = 125 ± 8.0 mEq 1−1, [K+] = 2.6 ± 0.8 mEq 1−1 and [CL] = 122 ± 3.0 mEq 1−1. Freshwater acclimated sturgeon had an osmolality of 236 ± 7, [Na+] = 131.6 + 4.4, [K+] = 2.5 ± 0.7 and [CL] = 110.6 ± 3.6. Freshwater acclimated fish gradually exposed to sea water (increase of 5 ppt h−1) had higher plasma osmolalities than did the bay water acclimated fish. These young adult sturgeon are able to tolerate transfer from fresh water to sea water as well as gradual transfer from sea water to fresh water. Plasma electrolytes in transferred fish are regulated, but tend to differ from long term acclimated fish at the same salinities. There is a gradual increase in the upper salinity tolerance (abrupt transfer) of juvenile white sturgeon with weight: 5–10 ppt for 0.4–0.9 g fish, 10–15 ppt for 0.7–1.8 g fish, and 15 ppt for 4.9–50.0 g fish. The ability of juveniles to regulate plasma osmolality is limited. The young adult fish are able to tolerate higher salinities (35 ppt) than juvenile sturgeon but probably are also characterized by low activity of the necessary ion exchange mechanisms in the gills which permit rapid adjustment of blood electrolytes with graduate change in external salinity.  相似文献
