Factorial experiments in 1976–1979 investigated the effects of sowing date, fungicides (ethirimol seed treatments and tridemorph sprays) and insecticides (phorate applied to the soil, and menazon or dimethoate sprays) on powdery mildew, aphids, barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) and grain yield of spring barley (cv. Julia in 1976 and 1977; cv. Wing in 1978 and 1979). Late sowing usually increased the severity of powdery mildew, numbers of aphids and incidence of BYDV and generally decreased yield. Responses to pesticides were commonly greater on the late-sown than on the early-sown barley. Response to fungicides are principally attributed to the control of powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei; the target species) but responses to insecticides cannot be attributed to virus control and seem unlikely to be due solely to control of aphids, whose numbers were relatively small. There were some effects of fungicides on aphids and insecticides on mildew, but they were inconsistent and too small to affect crop protection strategies.  相似文献

Immobilisation of aphids of three species, Schizaphis graminum, Myzus persicae and Dactynotus ambrosiae, was accomplished using low temperature (6 ± 1°C; or nitrogen (N2), argon (Ar), or carbon dioxide (CO2) gases at 25°C for 1,3,6, or 24 h. Mortality was recorded and also times until treated aphids first walked or probed. Cold immobilisation caused least mortality and allowed rapid recovery of walking and probing abilities. CO2 treatment, even when accompanied by cyclic administration of bottled air, caused excessive mortality when used beyond 6 h, and long recovery times. After 24 h immobilisation with CO2 aphids seldom walked or probed. N2 or Ar gases, when administered with alternating cycles of bottled air, produced a nontoxic, hypoxic immobilisation from which aphids recovered fairly rapidly to walk and probe, apparently normally.  相似文献

A laboratory pesticide screening method is described for the aphid predatory midge Aphidoletes aphidimyza. Four acaricides, 10 fungicides, 11 insecticides and one herbicide, all of which are in common usage, were evaluated against both the adult and larval stages of the predator. The acaricide dienochlor, the fungicides benomyl, bupirimate, chlorothalonil, iprodione and hexaconazole, the herbicide tralkoxydim and the insecticides Bacillus thuringiensis and diflubenzuron were all safe to both adult and larval A. aphidimyza. Adults were more susceptible to the pesticides than larvae. Pesticide was exposed to adults as a residue on glass plates and to larvae on a leaf section mounted on agar. The leaf material remained healthy and supported host aphids for several days without deteriorating. The method and apparatus have potential for use with many other pests and beneficial organisms required to be caged for several days on detached leaf material.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted in small arenas and on whole plants to explore the effect of cotton aphids, Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae), as alternative prey on the predation of Helicoverpa armigera Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larvae by green lacewing larvae, Mallada signatus Schneider (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae). Transgenic Bt (Bollgard II®) and conventional cotton plants were included to explore potential differences in the predator's performance on these cotton types. In small arenas, the presence of 20 aphids reduced predation on H. armigera larvae by 22% (from 5.5 to 3.3 of 10) by a single lacewing larva over a 24‐h period. The presence of H. armigera reduced predation on aphids by ca. 29% (from 16.8 to 11.0 of 20) over 24 h. On whole plants, the presence of alternative prey had no effect on the number of H. armigera larvae or aphids remaining after 3 days. The presence of H. armigera larvae alone, without the predator, caused a 24% reduction in the numbers of aphids on conventional, but not on Bt cotton plants. The combination of Bt cotton and lacewing larvae caused a 96.6% removal of early‐stage H. armigera larvae, a statistically significant increase over the addition of the proportions (91.6%) removed by each factor measured separately, providing evidence of synergism. These studies suggest that the presence of aphids as alternative prey would not necessarily disrupt the predation by green lacewing on larvae of H. armigera, especially on Bt cotton.  相似文献

Phytophthora blight caused by Phytophthora capsici is a serious disease in the production of peppers and other vegetables worldwide. Application of fungicides is an important component in developing effective disease management programmes. However, resistance in P. capsici populations to some commonly used fungicides has been documented. Identification of effective new fungicides with different mode of actions is highly desirable. This study was conducted to determine baseline sensitivity of P. capsici isolates to oxathiapiprolin, the first member of a new class of isoxazoline fungicides, and efficacy of this compound for reduction of Phytophthora blight on bell pepper. A collection of 126 P. capsici isolates were evaluated and all the isolates were sensitive to oxathiapiprolin. EC50 values of oxathiapiprolin in inhibiting mycelial growth, sporangium formation and zoospore germination of 25 selected isolates averaged 0.001, 0.0003 and 0.54 µg mL?1, respectively. It appeared that asexual life stages of P. capsici were more sensitive to oxathiapiprolin than other compounds used for control of oomycete pathogens. In field studies, oxathiapiprolin applied at different rates through drip irrigation tubes, or by soil drench plus foliar sprays, reduced Phytophthora blight and increased pepper yield significantly. This is the first report of the efficacy of oxathiapiprolin in suppression of P. capsici, which indicates that oxathiapiprolin is effective in inhibiting the pathogen and has the promise to be a viable option for managing Phytophthora blight in bell pepper production.  相似文献

在室内评价了球孢白僵菌对烟蚜茧蜂生命参数及控害效果的影响。分别在烟蚜茧蜂寄生桃蚜后不同时间进行高剂量(1900孢子/mm2)接菌,检测蚜虫感病率和寄生蜂形成的僵蚜率及僵蚜出蜂率。结果表明,球孢白僵菌对僵蚜率和僵蚜出蜂率的影响随接菌时间不同而变化。在烟蚜茧蜂寄生前1d、寄生当天和寄生后3d接菌,蚜虫感病率分别为59.6%、56.2%和34.8%;与对照相比,僵蚜率分别下降94%、59%和47%,僵蚜出蜂率分别减少83%、54%和49%。在寄生后5d或7d接菌,僵蚜率和僵蚜出蜂率不受明显影响,但蚜虫感病率降低到8.2%以下。对蚜尸内白僵菌菌体含量检测表明,随着烟蚜茧蜂寄生后接菌时间的推移,菌体数量迅速下降。寄生蜂寄生后5d或7d接菌,蚜尸内几乎检测不到菌体。直接喷雾接菌烟蚜茧蜂,成蜂寿命缩短4d左右,且81.8%的蜂尸受白僵菌感染。接菌后的寄生蜂对蚜虫寄生率几乎无影响,但寄生蜂在蚜虫体内的存活时间缩短了27.8%。  相似文献

[目的] 探讨不同生育期和不同种植方式的茼蒿对蚕豆蚜虫的诱集作用,为利用茼蒿控制蚕豆蚜虫提供理论依据。[方法] 在蚕豆田四周种植不同生育期(幼苗期、现蕾期、开花期)和不同行数(1行、2行)的茼蒿,观察不同处理的蚕豆田有蚜株率和蚜害等级,各处理设在互不干扰的小区内进行。[结果] 蚕豆四周种植不同生育期茼蒿后,蚕豆上有蚜株率和蚜害等级比例存在显著差异,且与茼蒿的生育期有明显的相关性,各处理有蚜株率从低到高分别为茼蒿开花期(28.33%) < 现蕾期(41.67%) < 幼苗期(55.00%),并均显著低于对照(63.33%);种植不同生育期茼蒿后,各处理蚕豆蚜害等级也不同,5级蚜害在种植开花期茼蒿处理后仅为5.00%,现蕾期为23.33%,幼苗期为33.33%,对照蚕豆上蚜害最高,达40.00%。分别种植1行(33.33%)和2行(23.33%)茼蒿后,最高有蚜株率均显著低于对照(66.67%),低蚜害等级比例明显增高,高蚜害比例明显下降,且种植2行的效果更佳。[结论] 开花期的茼蒿对蚕豆蚜虫诱集作用最强,种植2行开花期茼蒿可以有效降低蚕豆蚜虫为害。在蚕豆生产上,种植茼蒿可以作为蚕豆蚜虫生态防控的重要手段之一。  相似文献

Population parameters of the melon aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover, were compared for insects grown on six cultivars of chrysanthemum, Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev ('Fontana', 'Iridon', 'Pink Lady', 'Splendor', 'White Diamond', and 'White View Time') fertilized with 3 different levels of nitrogen (80, 160 and 240 mg N/l) and 2 levels of irrigation (high 300 ml and low 210 ml every other day). Fecundity, longevity, and survivorship of aphids were significantly affected by the cultivar treatment, but were not affected by irrigation or fertilizer treatments or by any combination of interactions among cultivar, fertilizer and irrigation. Significantly fewer aphids survived on the cultivar 'Pink Lady' (populations reduced by 20.8%) than any other cultivar examined. Intrinsic rates of increase r m , finite rates of increase (R 0), and population doubling times (DT) for aphids were different among fertilizer levels and cultivars, but were not different among irrigation levels. There were no significant fertilizer by irrigation interaction effects upon r m , R 0, or DT. The highest rate of fertilizer applied (240 mg N/liter) adversely affected the intrinsic rate of increase of melon aphids; however, aphid intrinsic rate of increase was weakly correlated with foliar soluble protein levels (r=0.989, P=0.0954). Foliar soluble protein levels were not associated with fertilization treatment. Melon aphids perform consistently better on the cultivars 'White Diamond', 'Fontana', and 'Splendor', relative to those aphids growing on 'Iridon', 'Pink Lady', or 'White View Time'. In general, melon aphids performed best on 'White Diamond' and poorest on 'Pink Lady'.  相似文献

Damaging effects of either black bean aphid (Aphis fabae), broad bean rust (Uromyces viciae-fabae), or the combination of both were investigated on a susceptible (cv. Diana) and an aphid resistant (cv. Bolero) cultivar of Vicia faba. When compared with rust, aphids caused greater reductions of root dry weight, shoot dry weight, leaf area, and mean relative growth rate. The mean unit leaf rate was also reduced whereas the leaf area ratio was not affected. The damage caused per aphid was highest on the susceptible cultivar. Rust induced damage did not differ between the cultivars. Concomitant infestation with both pests only resulted in additive damage. The population development of aphids was delayed on partially resistant plants. High temperature and rust infection reduced the total number of aphids the plants were able to support but not the level of resistance. Thus the specific damaging effect per aphid was increased.  相似文献

Predators (mainly coccinellid adults and larvae and syrphid larvae), although few, were important in decreasing numbers of Aphis fabae on a small plot of field beans during the early stages of infestation in a year favourable to the aphid. At the same time, ants (Lasius niger L.), attending aphids on other plants on the same plot, effectively protected the aphids from predators for about 2 weeks, enabling the attended aphids to multiply faster than the unattended. When all aphid populations started to decline, predators became more numerous and accelerated the decline on both sets of plants. Bean plants without aphids yielded fifty-six seeds per plant; those with aphids but free from ants gave seventeen; and those with ant-attended aphids, eight seeds per plant. The damage and loss of yield was caused by the large aphid populations that developed when the pods were maturing, and not by the fewer aphids present when the plants were in flower. It appears that small, temporary infestations during flowering might increase the yield of field beans.  相似文献

The effects of the fungicides Captan, Dicloran, Thiram, Verdasan and mercuric chloride (HgCl2) on the radial and mycelial growth rates of thermophilous fungi isolated from living green leaves were studied. On controlplates Thermoascus aurantiacus andTorula thermophila had the highest radial growth rates whileMalbranchea pulchella var.sulfurea andTalaromyces duponti had the lowest growth rates. Good sporulation was seen on all control plates.With increasing concentrations of fungicides the growth rates were correspondingly retarded and sporulation was reduced. At het higher fungicide concentrations the hyphal tips and young hyphae were thicker and warty or granulated.Of the fungi studies,Aspergillus andMucor pusillus were the most tolerant species; they were capable of growth in more concentrations of fungicides compared with the other species.Talaromyces duponti andThermomyces lanuginosus emerged as the most sensitive species.Most marked reductions in the growth rates were produced by Thiram and Verdasan than by the other fungicides. All the ten thermophilous species studied were capable of growth with more concentrations of HgCl2 than with the organo mercurial Verdasan.Six of the ten thermophilous species studied showed higher radial growth rates compared with the two fastest growing mesophilic species studied;Trlchoderma viride andZygorhynchus moelleri. While M. pusillus was capable of growth in dry weight at 0.05 ppm of all fine fungicides,Sporotrichum thermophile did not show mycelial growth with Verdasan at 0.05 ppm.Thermomyces lanuginosus showed reduced growth rates with Thiram and no mycelial growth with both HgCl2 and Verdasan.  相似文献

The effect of four fungicides (benomyl, carbendazim, triadimefon and sulp hur), used in intensive barley cropping on the epidemiology of Drechslera teres f. maculata and f. teres, was investigated under a controlled environment. Two fungicides (benomyl and carbendazim) increased disease development, especially at the recommended field rate, sulphur had the same effect at lower concentrations and triadimefon promoted net blotch caused by D. teres f. teres. At the recommended field rate, carbendazim enhanced sporulation in the two pathogen forms, whereas benomyl and sulphur enhanced 14 sporulation only on the maculata form. The results showed that, under controlled conditions, most of the fungicides promotednet blotch development and that sporulation increased either as a result of the pathogen form or of the concentration of the active ingredient.  相似文献

The in vitro activity of a range of fungicides was tested on strains of Botrytis cinerea, Mucor mucedo, Rhizopus stolonifer, and R. sexualis. Di-chlofluanid and dichloran were more active than the other fungicides against all of the strains of B. cinerea, while dichloran, dichlorophen and the dithiocarbamate fungicides were the most active against the Rhizopus species. Only dichlorophen and thiram markedly inhibited the growth of M. mucedo.  相似文献

Use of genetically engineered plants that express insecticidal Cry proteins derived from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) have been proven efficacious for managing lepidopteran pests. However, in some cases herbivores that are not targeted by the Bt trait have increased in importance. It has been suggested that reduced caterpillar damage to Bt crops could lead to decreased levels of induced plant defensive compounds which might benefit other non-target herbivores. Here we investigated the potential effect of reduced damage by larvae of Mythimna separata on aphid populations in Bt corn. We compared the performance of Rhopalosiphum maidis feeding on non-Bt corn plants that had been infested by M. separata larvae or were uninfested. The results showed that caterpillar-infested corn plants significantly reduced the fitness of R. maidis leading to a prolonged nymphal development time, reduced adult longevity and fecundity compared to uninfested plants. Consequently, the population growth rate of corn aphids feeding on caterpillar-infested corn plants was significantly lower than on uninfested plants. As expected, the aphids performed significantly better on Lepidoptera-resistant Bt corn than on non-Bt corn when plants were infested with M. separata, since the caterpillars caused very little damage to the Bt plants. The current findings indicate that reduced M. separata infestation could benefit aphid development in Bt corn. Bt corn has the potential to be commercialized in China in the near future and aphids and other non-target pests should be monitored in the farming fields.  相似文献

Summary The effect of artificial acid rain on the reproduction and survival of the aphid Euceraphis betulae on silver birch was studied in Turku, southern Finland. Eight bioassays were done during 1984–1986. In four of the bioassays the aphids produced 40% to over 100% more progeny on birches watered with dilute sulphuric acid (pH 3.5) than on control trees. In four other cases the performance of aphids did not differ between the treatments. An index of aphid reproduction pooled over the whole study was significantly higher on acid-treated than on control birches. The reproduction of aphids on acid-treated birches was enhanced when precipitation was below long term average, suggesting an interaction between the stress caused by acid treatment and dry periods.  相似文献

For the mutualistic interaction between the aphid Metopeurum fuscoviride Stroyan (Homoptera: Aphididae) and the ant Lasius niger L. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) it has been shown that ant-tended aphids develop faster, reproduce at a higher rate, and live longer than aphids not tended by ants. We used electrical penetration graphs (EPG) to investigate if behavioural patterns differ between ant-tended and untended M. fuscoviride during 8 h experiments. Measurements were made on adult aphids from four different ant-tended colonies that continued to be tended by L. niger during the experiments, and from four different colonies where ant workers were excluded several days before the start of the experiment and that were also not tended by ants during the experiments. Ants readily tended wired aphids and ant tending did not interfere with the EPG measurements. There were no significant differences in the duration of sieve element penetration or in any other analysed feeding-related EPG parameters between ant-tended and untended individuals. However, the quality of the EPG recordings did not allow the distinction between the EPG-waveform E1 (salivation only) and E2 (salivation and ingestion). These results suggest that the changes in life-history traits of ant-tended aphids do not result from changes in time of sieve element penetration waveforms. Alternative mechanisms may involve an increase in the rate of sap uptake or a higher effectiveness in nutrient uptake in the presence of ants. Our study demonstrates that the EPG technique is a useful tool to investigate the feeding behaviour of aphids during interactions with ants.  相似文献

Phenolic fungicides, which were initially fungicidal to mycelium of Armillaria mellea on the surface of well‐colonised wood billets, eventually stimulated the growth of A. mellea. An extensive growth of rhizomorphs was produced from A. mellea inoculum, which had been exposed to phenolic chemicals for 3 months, compared to few or no rhizomorphs produced from inoculum exposed to water or a suspension of a non‐phenolic fungicide, fenpropidin. Inoculated privet plants grown either in pots or under field conditions were treated with a range of fungicides; fenpropidin, phenyl phenol, cresylic acid or water (control) was applied every 6 months over 21/2 yr. Fenpropidin caused a slightly (but significantly) lower incidence of infection than occurred in untreated plants, but the phenolic fungicides, cresylic acid and phenyl phenol, did not reduce the incidence of infection. The severity of infection (% root circumference colonised at 5 cm depth) was greater following cresylic acid treatments than the other fungicides or water‐treated controls. Use of phenolic fungicides such as cresylic acid for the control of A. mellea may therefore be counter‐productive.  相似文献

Pepper Phytophthora blight (PPB), caused by Phytophthora capsici, is an important disease of pepper in China. The extensive application of metalaxyl has resulted in widespread resistance to this fungicide in field. This study has evaluated the activities of several fungicides against the mycelial growth and sporangium germination of metalaxyl‐sensitive and metalaxyl‐resistant P. capsici isolates by determination of EC50 values. The results showed that the novel carboxylic acid amide (CAA) fungicide mandipropamid exhibited excellent inhibitory activity against PPB both in vitro and in vivo, with averagely EC50 values of 0.075 and 0.004 μg/ml in mycelial growth and sporangium germination, respectively, and over 88% efficacy in controlling PPB. The other three CAA fungicides also provided over 70% efficacy in controlling PPB. The mycelial growth was less sensitive to quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) fungicides azoxystrobin and trifloxystrobin than that of sporangium germination in P. capsici isolates. However, azoxystrobin and trifloxystrobin provided over 80% efficacy in controlling PPB. It was noted that propamocarb and cymoxanil did not exhibit activity against the mycelial growth or sporangium germination of P. capsici isolates in the in vitro tests, with over 70% efficacy in controlling PPB. The new fungicide mixture 62.5 g/l fluopicolide + 625 g/l propamocarb (trade name infinito, 687.5 g/l suspension concentrate (SC)) produced over 88% efficacy in controlling PPB caused by both metalaxyl‐sensitive and metalaxyl‐resistant isolates. The data of this study also proved that there was obviously no cross‐resistance between metalaxyl and the other tested fungicides. Therefore, these fungicides should be good alternatives to metalaxyl for the control of PPB and management of metalaxyl resistance.  相似文献

Larvae of the ladybird Harmonia axyridis are reported to suffer high mortality when they are fed with the aphid Aulacorthum magnoliae associated with the elder Sambucus sieboldiana. In the present study we first examined whether aphid toxicity to H. axyridis was altered when the aphids were reared on different host plants, and second whether some ladybird families could adapt specially to the toxic aphids. Ladybird larvae from each egg batch were divided into two groups; one group was fed with A. magnoliae reared on potato, and the other group was fed with A. magnoliae reared on elder. The ladybird larvae fed with elder aphids suffered significantly higher mortality and grew more slowly than did larvae fed with potato aphids. This result indicates that A. magnoliae aphids absorbed toxic substances or their precursors from S. sieboldiana. We suggest that host association of A. magnoliae with the primary host plant S. sieboldiana has been maintained because of the advantage of deterring predation. Significant and positive correlation was detected across H. axyridis sib families between the mean weight of larvae fed with elder aphids and the mean weight of larvae fed with potato aphids. The hypothesis that some ladybird families adapt specially to the toxic aphids was not supported. However, the available evidence showed that a large amount of genetic variance in performance is maintained in a wild population of the ladybird H. axyridis.  相似文献
