BackgroundSeveral studies to evaluate the accuracy of galactomannan (GM) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) as a diagnostic tool have been carried out; however, there are still controversies about the optimal cut-off point of BALF GM.AimsThe objective of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy and the optimal cut-off point on BALF GM from patients with suspected invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in a tertiary care hospital.MethodsA cross-sectional study with 188 patients (≥18 years) that had undergone a bronchoscopy with BAL due to suspected IPA was carried out. IPA was diagnosed according to the EORTC/MSG guidelines.ResultsThe optimal optical density cut-off point for BALF GM was 0.67, with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 100%, 70%, 32.3%, and 100%, respectively.ConclusionsBALF GM detection proved to be a useful supplementary technique in the early diagnosis of IPA in both neutropenic and non-neutropenic patients.  相似文献

BackgroundPrevious retrospective studies showed that the incidence and mortality rates for MM in China were lower than those in western countries. A large-scale prospective study on incidence and mortality rates of MM is still lacking.MethodsBased on the prospective Kailuan Cohort study in China, we included all patients with MM in Kailuan Cohort from June 1, 2008 to December 31, 2016. Using the numbers of diagnosed cases and deaths during the study period as the numerators and the corresponding observed person-years as the denominators respectively, we calculated crude incidence and mortality rates. The 95% confidence intervals for crude incidence rate and mortality rate were estimated base on Poisson distribution. Rates were standardized by direct standardization according to the China population in 2000 and Segi’ world standard population.ResultsA total of 22 members from Kailuan Cohort were first diagnosed with MM between 2008 and 2016. The calculated crude incidence rates were 2.8 (95% CI, 1.7–4.2) per 100,000 person-years for all participants. The standardized incidence rate was 0.9 per 100,000 person-years (95% CI, 0.5–2.1) when standardized by 2000 China population census data, and 1.0 per 100,000 person-years (95% CI, 0.6–1.8) when standardized by Segi’s world standard population (WSP). The calculated crude mortality rates were 2.3 (95% CI, 1.4–3.6) per 100,000 person-years. The mortality standardized by 2000 China population census data was 0.7 per 100,000 person-years (95% CI, 0.3–1.9), and 0.9 per 100,000 population (95% CI, 0.5–1.7) when standardized by Segi’s WSP. Both incidence and mortality for males were higher than that for females almost in all age groups. Both rates increased steadily with age.ConclusionIn this community-based prospective cohort study, we found that the incidence of MM in China was far lower than that in American and Europe.  相似文献

Background

In Korea, cancer is the third leading cause of death among adolescents and young adults (AYAs). However, cancer incidence and survival trends among AYAs (15–29 years) have never been studied in Korea. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the incidence and relative survival rates and their trends among AYAs in Korea.

Materials and Methods

Cancer incidence data from 1999–2010 were obtained from the Korea Central Cancer Registry (KCCR). Each cancer was classified into subgroups according to the National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) AYA site recode. Percent distributions, age-specific incidence rates, age-standardized incidence rates per million, and annual percent changes (APCs) were calculated for AYAs according to sex. Five-year relative survival rates were estimated for cases diagnosed between 1993 and 2010 and followed up to 2011.

Results

The age-standardized incidence rates of all cancers combined were 196.4 and 367.8 per million for males and females, respectively (male-to-female (M/F) ratio: 0.5). The age-standardized incidence rates increased from 208.7 per million in 1999 to 396.4 per million in 2010, and the APC was 6.3% (P<0.001). The five most common cancers among AYAs were thyroid carcinoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, stomach carcinoma, breast carcinoma, and acute myeloid leukemia. In males, the 5-year relative survival rate improved, from 46.5% in 1993–1995 to 75.9% in 2006–2010. In females, the 5-year relative survival rate also improved, from 66.7% in 1993–1995 to 89.1% in 2006–2010.

Conclusions

Our study showed increases in cancer incidence and improvements in the 5-year relative survival rate among Korean AYAs. This study also provides additional data regarding temporal and geographic trends in cancer that may enhance future efforts to identify factors affecting cancer incidence and responses to treatment among AYAs.  相似文献

BackgroundIncreasing incidences of malignant small bowel tumours have been reported, but data from European populations are limited. This study aimed to clarify the incidence patterns of malignant small bowel tumours in Sweden.MethodsPatients with a first and primary malignant small bowel tumour were identified from the Swedish Cancer Register during the study period 1960–2009. Sex-specific and age-standardised incidence rates of these tumours were calculated by their anatomical location and histological type in different time periods. Figures were plotted to show the proportions and incidence rates over time, and joinpoint loglinear regression models were estimated to assess any time trends.ResultsA total of 6604 patients with malignant small bowel tumours were identified. The age-standardised incidence of all malignant small bowel tumours increased from 14.2 to 19.7 per 1,000,000 person-years during the study period. The incidence of duodenal cancer increased more than 3-fold (from 1.6 to 5.4 per 1,000,000 person-years), which was mainly expained by a dramatical rising trend of adenocarcinoma of the duodenum (from 0.7 to 4.2 per 1,000,000 person-years). Malignant tumours of small bowel with unspecified anatomical locations showed a slight increase (from 7.0 to 7.9 per 1,000,000). The incidence of small bowel tumours in other locations or of other histological types was more stable.ConclusionsThe incidence of small bowel malignancies has increased during the period 1960–2009. Among the specific types of small bowel cancer, a particularly rapid increase was found for duodenal adenocarcinoma.  相似文献

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a life-threatening complication in patients receiving chemotherapy or undergoing allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for acute leukemia. The existing tools to diagnose IPA lack specificity or sensitivity, or both; the search for improved diagnostic tools for IPA has focused on novel serologic and molecular methods. Aspergillus Galactomannan enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (GM) analyses showed sensitivity rates in serum samples ranging in a wide span; testing GM in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) originated from the primary site of the infection seems to be more sensitive in patients with IPA. Other novel diagnostic markers to detect fungal DNA directly in clinical samples, rapidly, early, sensitively and specifically, are provided by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based assays; higher sensitivity and specificity rates have been observed for BAL samples in IPA, even under antifungal treatment. The clinical place value of a diagnostic approach combining PCR and GM in BAL is unclear.  相似文献

BackgroundResearch on soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) and bone sarcoma (BS) is increasingly in the focus of physicians and pharmaceutical companies. Expanding knowledge has improved the management of sarcoma and possibly survival. Here we provide the first population-based data on time trends of incidence, mortality, and survival of STS and BS diagnosed in Switzerland between 1996 and 2015.MethodsWe performed a retrospective registry study with data from the National Institute for Cancer Epidemiology and Registration (NICER) database in Switzerland between 1996 and 2015.ResultsWe identified 5384 STS patients and 940 BS patients. The three most common STS subtypes were undifferentiated/unclassified sarcoma (22.3%), liposarcoma (20.6%) and leiomyosarcoma (20.6%). Chondrosarcoma, osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma represented 40.4%, 27.0% and 15.2% of the BS group, respectively. The age-standardized incidence and mortality rates in 2011–2015 were 4.43 and 1.42 per 100,000 person-years for STS, and 0.91 and 0.42 for BS. Age-standardized incidence of STS in males was significantly higher during 1996–2000 than during 2001–2015; however, mortality rates did not change significantly over time. Five-year relative survival (RS) for STS improved significantly from 56.4% (95%CI 52.9–59.7 for 1996–2001) to 61.6% (95%CI 58.6–64.4 for 2011–2015) (p = 0.025). No improvement in 5-year RS for BS could be observed (RS 1996–2000: 69.6%, 95%CI 61.2–76.6; RS 2011–2015: 73.1%, 95%CI 66.6–78.6; p = 0.479).ConclusionIncidence rates of STS and BS have been stable since 2001. The longer RS in STS can be attributed to advances in sarcoma patient management.  相似文献

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is one of the primary immunodeficiency diseases that occur in both children and adults. We present here a nationwide, population-based epidemiological study of CVID across all ages in Taiwan during 2002–2011. Using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision code 279.06, cases of CVID were identified from Taiwan''s National Health Insurance Research Database from January 2002 to December 2011. Age- and sex-specific incidence and prevalence rates were calculated. A total of 47 new cases of CVID during 2002–2011 were identified. Total prevalence rose from 0.13 per 100,000 in 2002 to 0.28 per 100,000 in 2011. The annual incidence rate during 2002–2011 was 0.019 per 100,000. Cases were equally distributed between males and females and males mostly occurred in younger patients. This nationwide population-based study showed that the incidence and prevalence of CVID in Taiwan were lower than that in Western countries.  相似文献

BackgroundIncreases in the incidence of squamous cell oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) have been reported from some countries, but have not been assessed in Australia or New Zealand. This study examines trends for squamous cell OPC and squamous cell oral cavity cancer (OCC) in two similarly sized populations, New Zealand and Queensland, Australia.MethodsIncidence data for 1982–2010 were obtained from the respective population-based cancer registries for squamous cell OPC and OCC, by subsite, sex, and age. Time trends and annual percentage changes (APCs) were assessed by joinpoint regression.ResultsThe incidence rates of squamous cell OPC in males in New Zealand since 2005 and Queensland since 2006 have increased rapidly, with APCs of 11.9% and 10.6% respectively. The trends were greatest at ages 50–69 and followed more gradual increases previously. In females, rates increased by 2.1% per year in New Zealand from 1982, but by only 0.9% (not significant) in Queensland. In contrast, incidence rates for OCC decreased by 1.2% per year in males in Queensland since 1982, but remained stable for females in Queensland and for both sexes in New Zealand. Overall, incidence rates for both OCC and OPC were substantially higher in Queensland than in New Zealand. In males in both areas, OPC incidence is now higher than that of OCC.ConclusionsIncidence rates of squamous cell OPC have increased rapidly in men, while rates of OCC have been stable or reducing, showing distinct etiologies. This has both clinical and public health importance, including implications for the extension of human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination to males.  相似文献

BackgroundIncidence of childhood cancer increased in most countries worldwide, but reasons are unclear. This study investigates trends of childhood cancer incidence in Switzerland from 1985 to 2014.MethodsWe extracted data on all childhood cancer cases diagnosed at ages 0–14 years in Switzerland from the Swiss Childhood Cancer Registry. We included ICCC-3 main groups I-XII and calculated age-standardised, cumulative, and age-specific incidence for different diagnostic groups. We analysed trends of annual age-standardised incidence using JoinPoint regression models.ResultsOver the study period from 1985 to 2014, 5104 of 5486 cancer diagnoses (93%) were microscopically verified. The proportion of children treated in paediatric cancer centres increased from 84% during 1985–1994 to 93% in 1995–2004 and 98% in 2005–2014 (p < 0.001). Using the World standard population, age-standardised incidence was 143 in 1985–1994, 154 in 1995–2004, and 162 per million in 2005–2014. Incidence increased by 0.7% (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.5; 1.0) per year for all cancers from 1985 to 2014, 0.8% (95% CI 0.2%–1.4%) for leukaemias over the same period, 3.0% (95% CI 0.2%–1.4%) for CNS tumours during 1985–2002, and 3.8% (95% CI 1.7%–6.0%) for epithelial neoplasms and melanomas over the period 1985–2014.ConclusionTrends in incidence were driven mostly by increases among leukaemias and CNS tumours. For CNS tumours, observed trends may be explained at least partially by diagnostic changes and improved registration. For leukaemias, rising incidence may be real and due to risk factors that experience similar increases in trends.  相似文献

BackgroundMyeloid malignancies (MM) are heterogeneous when it comes to incidence rates and pathogenesis. These variation rates are important to generate hypotheses on causal aetiology. This study aimed to describe incidence and mortality patterns of MM among children, adolescents and young adults (cAYA) in Brazil and to evaluate trends in incidence and mortality rate overtime.MethodsData were extracted from a dataset of 15 Population-based Cancer Registries located in five Brazilian geographical regions and calculated by age-specific, crude, and age-standardized incidence (ASR) and mortality rates per million persons. Joinpoint regression analyses were performed for trends evaluations, regionally. Annual Percent Change (APC) and Average Annual Percent Change (AAPC) were also estimated.ResultsThe overall ASR for incidence and mortality of MM in Brazil was 14.57 and 8.83 per million, respectively. The AML (non-APL AML and APL) incidence rate is 8.18 per million, whereas other MM subtypes altogether have an incidence rate of 2.62 per million, and not otherwise specified (NOS) is 3.70 per million. The analysis of incidence trends (AAPC) showed a significant decline in Manaus (-5.6%) and São Paulo (-4.7%), and a significant increase was observed in Fortaleza (5.8%). Mortality trends steadily declined in all registries, with significant declines occurring in Goiânia (-1.5%), Belo Horizonte (-2.3%), São Paulo (-2.5%), Curitiba (-2.8%) and Porto Alegre (-4.1%).ConclusionOur findings showed differences in the incidence and mortality rates of MM in cAYA in Brazil, geographically. Infants-AML have the highest incidence within the cAYA population (17.42 per million). There was a substantial decrease in mortality rate observed, which was interpreted as an improvement in MM recognition and therapeutic approach.  相似文献

Background

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most common and severe form of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia. Despite its clinical relevance, few studies have examined the epidemiology of IPF and temporal variation in disease incidence and prevalence. Aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence, incidence and trends of IPF in Lombardy, a region with nearly 10 million inhabitants, during 2005–2010.

Methods

For the identification of IPF patients, we used healthcare administrative databases of Lombardy Healthcare System and adopted three algorithms: generic, broad and narrow case definition (GCD, BCD, NCD). IPF cases were identified according to diagnoses reported in inpatient and outpatient claims occurred during 2000–2010. We estimated age- and sex-adjusted annual prevalence and incidence rates from 2005 to 2010, thus allowing for a 5-year washout period.

Results

The mean annual incidence rate was estimated at 2.3 and 5.3 per 100,000 person-years using NCD and GCD, respectively. IPF incidence was higher among males, and increased with age. Trend remained stable over the years. The estimated annual prevalence rate was 35.5, 22.4, and 12.6 per 100,000 person-years using GCD, BCD and NCD, respectively, and increased with age. Moreover, we observed a positive trend over the years. Using BCD and NCD, prevalence was higher among males.

Conclusions

The results of this study, which is one of the largest population-based survey ever conducted according to strict criteria, indicated that prevalence of IPF increased across the years while incidence remained stable, thus suggesting that survival with IPF has improved.  相似文献

BackgroundMalignant gonadal (GGCT) and extragonal germ cell tumors [GCT (EGCT)] are thought to originate from primordial germ cells. In contrast to well reported population-based data of GGCTs in males, analyses of GGCTs in females and EGCTs in both sexes remain limited.MethodsIn a pooling project of nine population-based cancer registries in Germany for the years 1998–2008, 16,883 malignant GCTs and their topographical sites were identified using ICD-O morphology and topography for persons aged 15 years and older. We estimated age-specific and age-standardized incidence rates.ResultsAmong males, the incidence of testicular GCTs increased over time. In contrast, there was no increase in the incidence of EGCTs. Among females, rates of ovarian GCTs were stable, while rates of EGCTs declined over time. The most frequent extragonadal sites were mediastinum among males and placenta among females.ConclusionsOur results underline different incidence trends and distinct age-specific incidence patterns of malignant GGCTs and EGCTs, as reported recently by several population-based registries. The differences suggest that GGCT and EGCT may have different etiologies.  相似文献

BackgroundAn increasing trend of oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) has been reported in several countries with different demographic characteristics, and often attributed to increases in human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. The survival of patients with OPC has steadily improved, especially for those with positive HPV status. This study assessed the incidence, trends, and survival of OPC in Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ) by age at diagnosis, sex and ethnicity.MethodsThe study included all 2109 patients resident in NZ with a primary diagnosis of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma from 2006 to 2020, identified from the National Cancer Registry. We assessed age-standardised incidence rate (ASR), annual percent change (APC) and overall and relative survival rates.ResultsThe average annual incidence of OPC was 2.2 per 100,000 population. There was a steady increase of 4.9% per year over 15 years. Although the incidence rates were higher in males over the study period, the overall rate of increase was similar in males (4.9%) and in females (4.3%). The incidence was highest in the 50–69-year group (8.8/100,000 population). This age group had an incidence that increased by 7.5% per year to 2018, and then declined. The main increase in rates was seen between the birth cohort of 1946–50 and that of 1956–60. The increase in incidence was seen in Māori and Pākehā/European populations, but no increase was seen in Pacific or Asian populations. The 5-year overall relative survival rate improved from 69% in 2006‐13 to 78% in 2014–20. Survival rates were lower in older patients, females, and Māori patients.ConclusionThis study confirmed a substantial increase in OPC incidence in NZ, with some evidence to suggest a recent slowing in this increase. Māori and Pākehā/European had the highest incidence, while Pacific and Asian populations showed the lowest rates and no increase over the study period. Survival rates have improved over time, but remained lower in some demographic groups.  相似文献

BackgroundLymphoma is the third most common pediatric malignancy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence rates of lymphoma in children and adolescents in Brazil.MethodsAll cases of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and Burkitt lymphoma (BL) were extracted from 14 population-based cancer registries (PBCRs) from 2000 to 2005, and included children and adolescents 0–19 years old. Analyses included age-adjusted incidence rates (AAIRs) and age-specific incidence rates (ASIRs) by each PBCR. A social exclusion index (SEI) was built and used as proxy for socioeconomic status (SES) levels. Correlations between SES and incidence rates were investigated using Spearman's test.ResultsThe median incidence of lymphoma was 22.7/million. AAIRs of lymphomas varied from 12.9 (Salvador) to 34.5 per million (São Paulo). Median AAIR was 8.8/million, 9.8/million, and 2.9/million for NHL, HL, and BL, respectively. In all PBCRs except that of Recife, AAIR was slightly higher in males than females. The median ASIR was highest for HL (18.5/million) at 15–19 years for both genders. For NHL there were two peaks for ASIR: 11.1/million (1–4 years of age) and 13.2/million (15–19 years of age). The median ASIR for BL was highest among children aged 1–4 years (4.7/million) and in males. Higher SEI correlated with higher incidence of HL (P = 0.06), whereas rates of NHL and BL did not correlate with SEI. Borderline different incidence rates were observed in HL correlated with cities with higher SEIs.ConclusionIncidence rates of lymphomas in Brazil do not differ compared to rates reported worldwide, although SES differences deserve further investigation.  相似文献

A total of 64 cases of pleural mesothelioma were reported in British Columbia between 1973 and 1980, 54 in males and 10 in females. There was a significant (p less than 0.05) increase in the incidence among males. The overall incidence rates were 4.9 and 0.9 per million person-years for males and females respectively. The age distribution of the cases was roughly exponential up to age 70 years. Almost all of the cases were clustered in Cowichan Valley, Capital and Greater Vancouver counties, where there was a high level of shipbuilding activity 30 to 40 years ago. The increased incidence in males may be related to this activity, which involved exposure to asbestos.  相似文献

BackgroundMalignant ameloblastoma, comprising metastasizing ameloblastoma and ameloblastic carcinoma, represents 1.6–2.2% of all odontogenic tumors. Due to its rare nature, malignant ameloblastoma has only been reported in the literature in small case series or case reports. Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End-Results (SEER) database, we have performed a population-based study to determine the incidence rate and the absolute survival of malignant ameloblastoma.MethodUsing the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O) codes 9310/3 and 9270/3, data from the SEER database were used to calculate the incidence rate and absolute survival rate of population with malignant ameloblastoma.ResultsThe overall incidence rate of malignant ameloblastoma was 1.79 per 10 million person/year. The incidence rate was higher in males than females and also higher in black versus white population. The median overall survival was 17.6 years from the time of diagnosis and increasing age was associated with a statistically significant poorer survival.ConclusionsTo our best knowledge, we report the largest population-based series of malignant ameloblastoma. The incidence rate was 1.79 per 10 million person/year and the overall survival was 17.6 years.  相似文献

IntroductionThe incidence of gastric cancer declined over the past decades. Recently, unfavorable trend breaks (i.e. rise in incidence) were seen for non-cardia cancer in younger age groups in the US. It is unclear whether these also occur in other Western countries. We aimed to analyze the gastric cancer incidence trends by age, sex, subsite and stage in the Netherlands.MethodsData on all patients with gastric adenocarcinoma diagnosed from 1973 to 2011 (n = 9093) were obtained from the population-based Eindhoven cancer registry. Incidence time trends (European standardized rates per 100,000) were separately analyzed by sex, age group (<60, 60–74, and >75 years), subsite, and pathological stage. Joinpoint analyses were performed to discern trend breaks, age–period–cohort analyses to examine the influence of longitudinal and cross-sectional changes.ResultsThe incidence of non-cardia cancer declined annually by 3.5% (95% CI −3.8; −3.3). However, in males <60 years, the incidence flattened since 2006, and tended to rise in those >74 years. This pertained to corpus cancers. The incidence of cardia cancer peaked in 1985 and decreased subsequently by 2.4% (95% CI −3.2; −1.5) yearly. The absolute incidence of stage IV disease at first diagnosis initially decreased, but then remained stable over the past 15–20 years.ConclusionsThe incidence of non-cardia cancer declined over the past four decades in the Netherlands, but now seems to be stabilizing particularly in males. Unfavorable trend breaks are seen for corpus cancer in younger and older males. The trend breaks in the Netherlands are however not similar to those observed in the US.  相似文献

BackgroundPaediatric and adolescent thyroid cancer incidence rates are increasing in many countries. We determined incidence rates, temporal trends and survival from thyroid cancer diagnosed in childhood and adolescence in Cyprus during 1998−2017.MethodsPatients aged 0–19 years, diagnosed with thyroid cancer in the Pediatric Oncology Registry of Cyprus were included. Crude incidence rates, age standardized rates, time trends and overall survival were analysed. Annual rates and temporal trends were calculated using Microsoft Excel 2016 and Joinpoint regression analysis.ResultsEighty-one cases (76.5 % female, 23.5 % male) were identified. The crude rates (per 100,000 persons) were for both sexes 2.00 (95 % CI 1.61, 2.49), females 3.15 (95 % CI 2.45, 4.03) and males 0.92 (95 % CI 0.58, 1.44). The annual percentage changes of crude and standardised rates were 7.5 % (p < 0.05) and 7.6 % (p < 0.05). The annual percentage changes of crude rates were for females 5.1 % (p = 0.1), males 8.4 % (p < 0.05) and 15−19-year-olds 7.6 % (p < 0.05). The female to male rate ratio was 3.42 (95 % CI 2.06, 5.74). Papillary thyroid carcinoma represented 86.4 % of all cases. There was only one case after previous cancer therapy. The rate ratio of 2nd (2008−2017) to 1st (1998−2007) periods for metastatic (regional) stages was 3.76 (95 % CI 1.74, 8.31). Survival until 2018 was 100 %.ConclusionThis population-based study demonstrated that thyroid cancer incidence rates in 0–19-year-olds in Cyprus was among the world’s highest. Increasing trends mainly affected males and females aged 15−19 years with papillary thyroid carcinoma, the dominant type. Cases after previous cancer therapy didn’t contribute to increasing rates. The increase of metastatic cases suggests a true increase of thyroid cancer rather than overdiagnosis. Although prognosis is excellent with 100 % survival, the rising incidence rate is unexplained, indicating the need to identify causes.  相似文献

BackgroundThailand is undergoing an epidemiologic transition, with decreasing incidence of infectious diseases and increasing rates of chronic conditions, including cancer. Breast cancer has the highest incidence rates among females both in the southern region Thailand and throughout Thailand. However, there is a lack of research on the epidemiology of this and other cancers.MethodsHere we use cancer incidence data from the Songkhla Cancer Registry to characterize and analyze the incidence of breast cancer in Southern Thailand. We use joinpoint analysis, age-period-cohort models and nordpred analysis to investigate the incidence of breast cancer in Southern Thailand from 1990 to 2010 and project future trends from 2010 to 2029.ResultsWe found that age-adjusted breast cancer incidence rates in Southern Thailand increased by almost 300% from 1990 to 2010 going from 10.0 to 27.8 cases per 100,000 person-years. Both period and cohort effects played a role in shaping the increase in incidence. Three distinct incidence projection methods consistently suggested that incidence rates will continue to increase in the future with incidence for women age 50 and above increasing at a higher rate than for women below 50.ConclusionsTo date, this is the first study to examine Thai breast cancer incidence from a regional registry. This study provides a basis for future planning strategies in breast cancer prevention and to guide hypotheses for population-based epidemiologic research in Thailand.  相似文献

BackgroundMalignant peritoneal mesothelioma (MPeM) is a rare cancer of the mesothelial cells in the peritoneum with poor prognosis. Earlier reports from other countries indicate an incidence of 0.2–3 new cases per million per year. No previous studies have examined the national epidemiology of MPeM in Nordic countries. This study aimed to clarify the epidemiology of MPeM in Finland over a 12-year period.MethodsThe data consisted of cancer notifications, laboratory notifications, and death certificate information in the Finnish Cancer Registry (FCR) and Statistics Finland (SF) of all MPeM patients from 2000 to 2012 in Finland. We also collected data on occupational disease compensations from the Workers’ Compensation Center (WCC) of Finland. Any missing information was collected from the respective patient’s file of every patient obtained from health institutions that had treated the patients.ResultsBetween January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2012, 90 new MPeM cases (56 males, 34 females) occurred in Finland. Median annual incidence was four new cases, which corresponded to 0.74 new cases per million per year. MPeM was deemed an occupational disease in 21 patients (23.3%). 71 patients (78.9%) of whom had a known cause of death, with a median survival of 4 months. The number of deaths linked to other disease than mesothelioma was 28/74 (37.8%).ConclusionsOur study indicates that MPeM in Finland is rare and fatal, which is in accordance with previous reports from other countries. MPeM is also a fatal disease, since most of the patients died due to MPeM.  相似文献
