Understanding corpus luteum (CL) function has led to development of methods of estrus synchronization in cattle that either extend the estrous cycle by administration of exogenous progestins or shorten the cycle by induction of luteolysis. Both methods have limitations, which have been reduced or overcome through sequential or combined treatment with progestin and luteolytic drugs. Future improvements in estrus synchronization methodology are most likely to come from achieving more synchrony between the development of a highly fertile ovulatory follicle and control of luteal function. 相似文献

We have carried out a field trial in cattle to study the effect of the interval between the onset of estrus and AI on sex ratio and fertility. Data were obtained from 716 cows that had been inseminated at different times between 8 and 44 h from the visual detection of estrus. Before analyzing the data, it was grouped in three intervals considering the time between estrus onset and AI (8-18, 18-30, and > or = 30 h). Our results show that the percentage of calved females (73.05%) is significantly superior for early inseminations (8-18 h), and it decreases 1.85% per hour from the onset of estrus. Delayed AIs (> or = 30 h) produce a significant deviation of the sex ratio towards the males (72.06%); nevertheless, fertility (percentage of successful pregnancies) diminishes significantly, from 66.19% (8-18 h) to 45.35% (> or = 30 h). In conclusion, variations in the interval between the onset of estrus and AI modify sex ratio. However, we must consider its effect on fertility. 相似文献

The main objective was to examine effects of season, parity, genotype, lactation length, and weaning-to-estrus interval on duration of estrus (DE) and onset of estrus-to-ovulation interval (EOI) in three sow farms. Detection of estrus and ovulation by the back-pressure test and transabdominal ultrasonography, respectively, were performed every 6 h from day 2-10 postweaning in 535 sows (approximately 89 per farm per season). The average weaning-to-estrus interval, DE, and EOI of the 501 sows that returned to estrus by day 10 postweaning were 4.6+/-0.1 days, 55.2+/-0.5 h, and 41.8+/-0.5 h, respectively. Farm x season (P<0.01), parity x season (P <0.05), and farm x weaning-to-estrus interval (P<0.05) interactions for DE and EOI were detected. Sows weaned in the summer had an 8 h longer (P<0.001) DE and EOI than those weaned in the spring on farms 1 and 3. On farm 2 however, DE and EOI did not differ (P=0.09) in sows weaned in summer versus spring. On each farm, parity 3 and > or =4 sows had a 4.5 h longer (P<0.05) DE and EOI than parity 1 and 2 sows in the summer, but there were no differences (P>0.11) in DE or EOI among parity classes in the spring. There was a linear decrease of DE (P<0.001) and EOI (P<0.05) as weaning-to-estrus interval increased from the 3 to the > or =7 day class on each farm. However, the range of weaning-to-estrus interval that exhibited a stepwise decrease of DE and EOI was narrower on farm 1 (3-5 days) than farms 2 and 3 (3-6 days). Only farms 1 and 3 had multiple genotypes. Genotype did not affect (P>0.14) DE on either farm, but the EOI of genotype B was 4 h shorter (P<0.05) than genotype C on farm 1. On each farm, DE decreased linearly (P<0.01) as lactation length increased from < or =13 to > or =20 days. In general, factors that affected EOI also affected (P<0.05) the percentage of inseminations that occurred within 24 h pre- to 3h post-ovulation. These data indicate that factors other than weaning-to-estrus interval, such as season and parity, can significantly alter DE and EOI. However, the effects of season and weaning-to-estrus interval on DE and EOI can be inconsistent among different farms. 相似文献

The efficiency of a synthetic prostaglandin analog (ICI 80996) for the control of the estrus cycle in dairy cows has been tested with and without simultaneous use of progestagen implants (SC 21009, Searle). Synchronization of estrus is closer after combined progestagen-prostaglandin treatments than after prostaglandins alone (78.7 % in estrus in 48h vs 60.2 % ; P<0.001).The percentage of cows not observed in estrus during the first 96h after the end of treatment was also lower after combined treatments (20.7 % vs 31.8 % ; P<0.05). The best estrus synchronization was obtained by injecting prostaglandin analog two days before implant removal (86 % in estrus in 48h and 14.0 % not observed in estrus within 96h).Fertility was studied in a field trial after one or two inseminations at a predetermined time for each treatment. A higher pregnancy rate was obtained with two inseminations after combined progestagen-prostaglandin treatment (49.1 %). This pregnancy rate differed significantly (P<0.05) from those obtained with one A.I. after the same treatment or two A.I. after the prostaglandin treatment but did not differ from the pregnancy rate obtained with one A.I. 80h after the second prostaglandin injection. The most important problem in dairy cows is the fall in pregnancy rate between 21 days and 6 months (19.7 to 35.1 % depending on treatment ; P<0.05). 相似文献

The present study reports the behavioural signs of estrus, their temporal distribution and duration of expression and their relationship with the time of ovulation in zebu cattle in order to identify the reliable sign(s) of estrus that could fairly predict the ovulation time. The onset, intensity and expression of various signs of estrus were continuously recorded till ovulation in 60 Sahiwal cows. Time of ovulation was determined by ultrasound examinations at 2h interval. Estruses were mostly of moderate (52%) or weak (34%) intensity. Mucus discharge, tumefaction of vulva and reddening of vulvar mucus membrane appeared early in relation to the ovulation time (31.27±1.97, 31.05±2.98 and 30.79±2.53h, respectively) in comparison to mounting (27.67±2.33h) and standing to be mounted (25.37±2.11h). Mucus discharge, tumefaction of vulva and reddening of vulvar mucus membrane persisted significantly more duration (P<0.01) than mounting and standing to be mounted. Further these cardinal signs appeared early in relation to time of ovulation, persisted for longer duration and expressed intensely. We conclude that mucus discharge, tumefaction of vulva and reddening of vulvar mucus membrane can be good predictor ovulation in this breed of cattle. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine time of ovulation, monitored by transcutaneous ultrasonography, relative to the duration of estrus in gilts. We exposed 92 cyclic gilts, Camborough x Canabrid terminal line, at Day 19 of their third estrous cycle to vasectomized boars every 6 h for the detection estrus. Transcutaneous ultrasonography was performed every 6 h, starting 24 h after the onset estrus, to determine time of ovulation. Estrus duration was, on average, 52.6 h (range: 30 to 72 h), and ovulation occurred between 30 and 60 h after the onset of estrus (mean: 44 h), about 85 % of the way through the estrus period. The time of ovulation during estrus was dependent on the duration of estrus (Time of ovulation = (duration of estrus) x 0.409 + 22.7; r = 0.57, P = 0.0001). Prediction of the time of ovulation in relation to duration of estrus is important for determining the optimal time for inseminating gilts. This knowledge would contribute to an improvement in the fertilization rate and in reproductive efficiency of the breeding herd. 相似文献

The number of Border Leicester ewes ovulating and their ovulation rate at 4 to 6 week intervals over 1 year and again after a further year were determined. The proportion of these ewes expressing estrus from autumn to spring and then in late summer/autumn was also determined. None of the ewes ovulated from October to early February, but for the remainder of the year, ovulation rate was always above 1.60, peaking in April to June at over 2.0. Eighty-four percent of the ewes had commenced ovulating by early March. The breeding season continued to September, when 10% of the ewes ovulated, with 25% expressing estrus in August and September. There was no significant effect of age, ewe liveweight or liveweight change on the proportion of ewes ovulating and their ovulation rate. The variability in the length of the breeding season gives scope for further selection. 相似文献

During fall season, 18 multiparous Corriedale ewes were divided into two equal groups for the continuous (CON) and intermittent (INT) presence of a ram. Estrus was synchronized with fluorgestone acetate intravaginal sponges that were left 14 days, plus an injection of 200&mgr;g of a prostaglandin F-2alpha analog at sponge removal. Estrus was detected three times a day (at 6 a.m., 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.) by using rams with harnessess and markers. Ovulation time was determined by laparoscopy, starting 24h after estrus detection. Estrus onset was (mean+/-S.E.M.) 32.9+/-1.6 and 45.3+/-4.4h for the CON and INT groups, respectively (P<0.01). Estrus duration was 31.1+/-0.9 and 30.2+/-1.2h, for the same groups, respectively (P>0.05). Ovulation time and the interval from sponge removal to ovulation (ISRO) for the CON and INT groups was 29.0+/-1.5, 62.0+/-2.0, 26.7+/-1.3 and 72.0+/-4.2h, respectively. Ovulation time was not different (P>0.05), but ISRO was shown to be different between treatments (P<0.05). It is concluded that the continuous presence of a ram after sponge removal hastens estrus onset and reduces the interval between sponge removal and ovulation, without modifying estrus duration and time between estrus onset and ovulation. 相似文献

This study was aimed at comparing the temporal relationship between estrus, the LH peak and ovulation following estrous synchronization in goats using medroxiprogesterone acetate (MGA) or fluorogestone acetate (FGA). Twenty-four cyclic goats were randomly assigned to two treatments: MGA group (n = 12) that individually received a daily oral dose of 0.22 mg MGA for 12 days, and a FGA group (n = 12) treated for 12 days with intravaginal sponges containing 45 mg FGA. The goats from both groups were treated with a prostaglandin analogue (75 μg Cloprostenol i.m.) during the last day of their progesterone treatment. Estrous detection was carried out every 4 h after the end of the treatment, and blood samples for the determination of the serum LH concentrations collected at 2 h intervals for 24 h from the onset of estrus. Ovulation was detected with the aid of transrectal ultrasonography, performed every 4 h starting 15 h after the onset of estrus. All goats showed estrus. In the MGA group the onset of estrus occurred later and was more variable in relation to the end of treatment (86.7 ± 3.9 h), compared to the FGA group (44.4 ± 1.5 h; P < 0.01). The interval between the LH peak and ovulation was significantly (P < 0.05) longer in the MGA group (26.2 ± 1.1 h) than the FGA group (22.4 ± 0.8 h). There were no differences regarding the intervals from the onset of estrus to the LH peak (14.9 ± 1.8 and 15.3 ± 0.9 h) and to ovulation (40.1 ± 2.3 and 37.6 ± 0.5 h) for the MGA and FGA groups, respectively. The amplitude of the LH peak was not different between groups. It could be concluded that the timing of the LH peak and ovulation is not related to the end of treatment, but with the time of onset of estrus. The longer and more variable interval for estrous demonstration following MGA treatment, represents a serious limitation for its use in synchronization programs in goats, where mating is to be performed on a fixed-time basis. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was two-fold. First, to characterize the secretory profiles of oestradiol-17beta and progesterone in relation to the structural changes observed by ultrasonography during follicular dynamics in non-ovulating llamas. Second, to evaluate the effect of exogenous progesterone on follicular activity, in terms of follicle development and hormone production. In experiment one, six adult non-pregnant, non-lactating llamas were examined daily by rectal palpation and transrectal ultrasonography during 70 days. On day 54, intravaginal devices containing 0.33 g of progesterone (CIDR) were inserted and left in the vagina during 16 days. The mean duration of a follicular wave was 22.6+/-2.5 days. The follicular growth phase (follicles growing from 3mm to maximum size) averaged 9.2+/-2.8 days, the mature phase (follicles around maximum size) 5.2+/-1.4 days and regression phase (follicles with decreasing size) 8.2+/-2.2 days. Oestradiol-17beta plasma concentrations exhibited a similar wave pattern (P<0.05). In addition, oestradiol-17beta peak plasma concentrations (46.9+/-3.3 pmoll(-1)) were attained approximately 12 days after the beginning of the growing phase in connection with maximum follicle size (11.8+/-1.6mm). After CIDR insertion, a rapid increase in plasma progesterone concentrations was observed, with peak concentrations attained on day 1 after insertion. Thereafter, concentrations decreased gradually. Mean follicle size steadily decreased from the day of CIDR insertion to day 11 post-insertion (10.3+/-1.6 and 3.3+/-0.8mm, respectively). In order to investigate the effect of follicle size at CIDR insertion on the outcome of progesterone treatment, experiment two was designed. Sixteen adult non-pregnant and non-lactating llamas were divided into four groups according to follicle development at the time of CIDR insertion (group I: follicles < or =6 mm; group II: follicles between 6 and 9 mm; group III: follicles between 10 and 14 mm and group IV, regressing follicles). In groups II, III and IV, a significant decrease in follicle size was observed after the insertion of the CIDR device. In group I, no further development of dominant follicles was observed until the device was withdrawn. In all cases, the smallest diameter was registered between days 5 and 7 after the beginning of treatment. In conclusion, a detailed characterization of follicular waves using ultrasound and hormone determinations simultaneously in non-ovulating llamas and after the insertion of progesterone releasing devices, is presented. 相似文献

The development of treatments that control follicular wave dynamics during the bovine estrous cycle has resulted in interesting possibilities for the precise control of follicular wave emergence and the time of ovulation. For superstimulation, follicular wave emergence can be controlled by ultrasound-guided follicle ablation with FSH treatments initiated 1 or 2 d later, or injection of estradiol combined with progesterone at the time of insertion of a progestogen releasing device and FSH treatments beginning 4 d later. These are the most widely used protocols for superstimulation of donor cows because they offer the convenience of being able to initiate treatments quickly and at a self-appointed time, without reducing the number of transferable embryos. However, these protocols still require precise estrus detection of donors following superstimulation in order to conduct AI at the most appropriate time. Recent studies have been designed to develop superstimulation protocols that involve fixed-time AI of donors, without regard to estrus detection. Results presented herein indicate that delaying the removal of a progestogen releasing device, combined with the administration of GnRH or porcine LH (pLH) 12 or 24 h later results in predictable, synchronous ovulations, permitting fixed-time AI without reducing the numbers or quality of embryos. These protocols facilitate the application of on-farm embryo transfer programs because they are practical, easy to administer by farm personnel, and more importantly, they eliminate the need for detecting estrus. 相似文献

Estrous behavior and the estrus-to-ovulation interval are essential for estimating the best time to artificially inseminate cattle. Because these parameters are not well characterized in the Nelore breed (Bos indicus), the main purpose of the this study was to determine the estrus-to-ovulation interval in Nelore heifers and cows with natural estrus or with estrus induced by treatments with PGF2 alpha or norgestomet and estradiol valerate (NEV). The cows and heifers were observed continuously (24 h a day) to determine the onset of estrus and to study estrous behavior in the cows. Ten hours after the start of estrus the ovaries were scanned every 2 h by ultrasonography to monitor the dominant follicle until ovulation. Blood samples were collected periodically to determine progesterone levels by RIA. Administration of PGF2 alpha (2 injections, 11 days apart) did not induce estrus in most Nelore females in spite of the presence of functional CL, indicated by progesterone concentrations above 6.0 ng/ml in 25 of 28 animals. Treatment with NEV induced high sexual receptivity in cows (10/11), but only 66% ovulated. Cows with natural or induced estrus exhibited behavioral estrus of 10.9 +/- 1.4 h, and ovulation occurred 26.6 +/- 0.44 h (n = 26) after the onset of estrus. In most of the cows (53.8%) estrus began at night (between 1801 and 600 h), and 34.6% it started and finished during the night. It is concluded that in Nelore females ovulation occurs approximately 26 h after the onset of estrus. Additionally, estrous behavior is shorter than in European breeds, and there is a high incidence of estrus at night, which makes it difficult to detect and, consequently, impairs Al in Nelore cattle. The observation that a high percentage of Nelore females with an active CL did not respond to usual dosages of PGF2 alpha warrants further investigation. 相似文献

Five groups of 30 captive feral mares each were implanted with silastic rods containing estradiol (E) and/or progesterone (P): E only with 8 g, P only with 24 g, P+HE with 8 g P + 8 g E, HP+E with 12 g P + 4 g E, HP+LE with 12 g P + 2 g E. Arbitrary group designations were differentiated by relative high (H) and low (L) amounts of steroid. Thirty mares received silastic rods containing no hormone (CI). Five mares from each group were bled every 2 wk for 4 mo and monthly for another 5 mo. All mares were tested for estrus by allowing them to stand in an alley between two pens of stallions and visually monitoring her response to the stallion. Serum P levels increased from 0.3 +/- 0.1 to 1.8 +/- 0.1 ng/ml in the P only group during the first 3 wk after implanting. Levels remained stable for the next 2 wk and then began a gradual decline. Serum P levels in the other groups were lower. Serum E levels were slightly increased in the groups receiving 8 g of E (E only and P+HE groups). Significantly fewer animals in the E only and P+HE groups exhibited estrus as compared with control animals (10 of 23 and 13 of 26 versus 22 of 25, respectively, P less than or equal to 0.003). However, animals receiving 24 g of P (P only) showed similar occurrences of estrus as controls.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS) 相似文献

Elevated QT interval variability is a predictor of malignant ventricular arrhythmia, but the underlying mechanisms are incompletely understood. A recent study in dogs with pacing-induced heart failure suggests that QT variability is linked to cardiac sympathetic nerve activity. The aim of this study was to determine whether increased cardiac sympathetic activity is associated with increased beat-to-beat QT interval variability in patients with essential hypertension. We recorded resting norepinephrine (NE) spillover into the coronary sinus and single-lead, short-term, high-resolution, body-surface ECG in 23 patients with essential hypertension and 9 normotensive control subjects. To assess beat-to-beat QT interval variability, we calculated the overall QT variability (QTVN) as well as the QT variability index (QTVi). Cardiac NE spillover (12.2 ± 6.5 vs. 20.7 ± 14.7, P = 0.03) and QTVi (-1.75 ± 0.36 vs. -1.42 ± 0.50, P = 0.05) were significantly increased in hypertensive patients compared with normotensive subjects. QTVN was significantly correlated with cardiac NE spillover (r(2) = 0.31, P = 0.001), with RR variability (r(2) = 0.20, P = 0.008), and with systolic blood pressure (r(2) = 0.16, P = 0.02). Linear regression analysis identified the former two as independent predictors of QTVN. In conclusion, elevated repolarization lability is directly associated with sympathetic cardiac activation in patients with essential hypertension. 相似文献

The time interval between FSH administration and ovarian aspiration influences the development of cattle oocytes 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Depriving the ovary of exogenous FSH for 1, 2 or 3 d following a bolus injection of FSH was shown to influence the quality of the recovered oocytes. Thus, we compared the developmental competence of oocytes from heifers which had been stimulated for 3 d with FSH (Folltropin-V) and, after an interval of 36, 48 or 60 h, underwent blind transvaginal aspiration. The ovaries of heifers with a palpable or functional corpus luteum were aspirated to remove all large follicles 2 d prior to being injected with either 6 doses of saline (S), 6 doses (20 mg/mL) of FSH (F), or in 6 decreasing doses of FSH (3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1 mL; Fd). Follicles were counted and classified (medium: 5 to 10 mm, large: >10 mm) with ultrasonography before each aspiration. The oocytes recovered were classified, matured, fertilized, and developed in vitro. On a per animal basis, 1.5, 5.2 and 4.7 large and 1.5, 10.7 and 10.7 medium follicles were counted for S, F and Fd, respectively. A mean of 3.3, 9.1 and 7.7 oocytes was recovered for treatments S, F and Fd, respectively and 58, 94 and 82% were enclosed in a nonexpanded cumulus or a corona layer. Oocyte development rates were based on counts of embryos with 32 or more nuclei at Day 6.5. When oocytes were recovered 36 h after the last injection, an average of 1, 2.7 and 2 embryos per animal was obtained with S, F and Fd, respectively; at 48 h, 0.75, 4.25 and 1 embryo; and at 60 h, 0, 2.5 and 2.7 embryos. Variance analysis was performed, and the protected LSD test indicated that treatment F at 48 h resulted in a significantly higher embryo rate than Fd at 48 h (P<0.05) or S (all times; P<0.05). The reduced effect of the Fd regimen could be due to the decreasing FSH support during follicular growth or to the lower total amount of FSH given. In conclusion, these results indicate an advantage of using moderate (3 d) follicle stimulation followed by a period of FSH starvation to obtain optimal embryo production. 相似文献
