In this work Ni speciation in natural and spiked soils (with similar total concentration) was studied. Spiked soils were prepared by addition of NiSO4.6H2O to obtain concentration similar to the one in natural soils. In soils mobile species were determined with a simplified sequential extraction as follows: H2O for water-soluble metal, KNO3 for exchangeable species, DTPA for complexed/adsorbed species. Results show that in spiked soils the exchangeable and adsorbed Ni concentrations are considerably higher than in natural soils. A study of plant uptake was carried out in order to evaluate the relation between mobile species and phyto-availability. Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), even though it is not a hyperaccumulator, was selected for its tolerance to high metal concentrations in soil. Preliminary results show a very high correlation between Ni mobile species and Ni uptake by alfalfa. Significant differences were found between spiked and natural soils. In the latter, high levels of total Ni did not correspond to relevant uptake as in the case of spiked soil. Results stress the importance of evaluating preliminarly heavy metal speciation in soil before planning phytoremediation procedures.  相似文献

Heavy metal contaminated soils often show increased levels of more than one metal, e.g. copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb) or nickel (Ni). In case such soils are used for crop production, prediction of yield reduction or quality decline due to heavy metals in the soil is inadequate when based only on chemical soil analysis. The use of biomarkers such as phytochelatins (PC), non-protein thiols specifically induced in plants upon exposure to heavy metals, may be an additional tool or diagnostic criterion in heavy metal research and in practice. In the present work, Cu and Cd uptake and induction of PC synthesis are studied with hydroponically grown maize and wheat plants exposed to mixtures of the two metals. We observed a close positive relationship between the concentrations of Cd and PC in the plant shoot material. A decreased shoot concentration of Cd after addition of Cu, due to metal competition at common root absorption sites, coincided with lower shoot PC levels. Also differences in metal uptake and xylary metal transport among the two plant species were reflected in corresponding differences in PC concentration. The observed direct relationship between shoot PC concentration and the degree of metal-induced growth inhibition makes the use of PC promising for the purpose tested for.  相似文献

The speciation of cadmium, lead, copper, zinc, manganese and iron into exchangeable, carbonate, reducible and organic bound fractions was studied in sediments from coastal and freshwater environments in Ghana. This was relevant as the species in which metals are stored within specific sediment components is important in determining their impact on the environment. For both coastal and inland sediments, a higher percentage of cadmium was associated with the more available exchangeable and carbonate fractions, while iron, zinc and manganese were mainly associated with the reducible and organic fractions. Lead and copper were found to have the greatest ability to form different species in the samples examined and were more evenly associated with all the fractions. The metals generally showed more ability to form different species in inland freshwaters than in coastal relatively saline waters. However, differences between inland and coastal waters were based more on whether the environments were oxidising or reducing than on whether they were fresh or saline. The metals may be divided into three groups of high mobility consisting of lead and copper; moderate mobility made up of cadmium, manganese and zinc; and low mobility, represented by iron.  相似文献

A microcosm experiment was carried out to study the influence of lead and zinc, individually and in mixtures, on a free-living nematode community of a Tunisian lagoon. Three levels (low, medium and high) of each heavy metal were used, separately and in combinations, for sediment contamination and effects were examined after two months. Results from the multiple comparison tests showed significant differences between nematode assemblages from undisturbed controls and those from lead and/or zinc treatments. Most univariate measures, including diversity and species richness, decreased significantly in the treated microcosms. Results from multivariate analyses of the species abundance data revealed significant effects of both metals, separately or in mixtures, at all the doses tested on nematode assemblages. All treatments were significantly different from the control and from each other. Both univariate and multivariate analyses of the data showed that the differential response occurred in all treatments but the communities from microcosms contaminated with lead and zinc separately were much more strongly affected. This result is suggestive of antagonistic interactions between Pb and Zn. The responses of nematode species to the lead and zinc treatments were varied: Calomicrolaimus honestus was eliminated at all lead doses tested and seemed to be intolerant species to Pb contamination whereas Oncholaimus campylocercoides increased significantly at low and medium lead contamination, was eliminated in Pb-highly amended sediment treatments and increased at all zinc doses used. This species could be categorized as “opportunistic” at low and medium lead doses and “zinc-resistant” species. Hypodontolaimus colesi was eliminated in all replicates treated with Zn even at low concentration and appeared to be a very sensitive species to zinc contamination.  相似文献

Scab conduciveness of 35 Tasmanian ferrosol soils, used for potato cropping, was compared in a glasshouse trial. Linear regressions showed no association between scab incidence and any of 12 individual soil chemical properties. However, using contingency tables, threshold levels were found for pH and exchangeable cations below which scab disease was less likely. The observed pH threshold in the range 5.0–5.2 was in accordance with similar findings from elsewhere and indicates the robustness of this threshold over a range of soil types and pathogen species. Scab was not observed on potatoes grown in soil with combined exchangeable Ca, Mg and K at 12 cmolc/kg or less. A strong correlation between soil pH and these exchangeable cations, particularly calcium, was found.  相似文献

The revised Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) sequential extraction procedure has been applied to investigate the effectiveness of two soil remediation strategies to reduce the amounts of potentially toxic elements in three contrasting contaminated soils (soils A, B and C) from derelict chemical manufacturing sites in the UK. Soil A was from the 35–45 cm deep layer of a site used for the manufacture of sulfuric acid. Soils B and C were topsoils from a site used for the manufacture of explosives, nitric acid and nylon The remediation strategies were flushing with EDTA in a column experiment (applied to soils A, B and C) and EDTA enhanced phytoremediation with Taraxacum officinale in pots (applied to soil B). Soil B, which contained the least amounts of aqua regia extractable metals, except for lead, but higher proportions of analytes in non-residual (i.e. acid exchangeable, reducible and oxidisable) forms was found to release greater amounts of analytes when flushed with EDTA. Comparison of the BCR sequential extraction fractionation patterns obtained before and after flushing of soil B, suggested that EDTA removed calcium mainly from the acid exchangeable pool, manganese mainly from the reducible pool, zinc from both acid exchangeable and reducible pools, and copper and lead from acid exchangeable, reducible and oxidisable pools. The chelate enhanced phytoremediation pot experiment conducted using soil B showed that EDTA treatment was significantly positively, correlated (p?<?0.05) with an increase in the proportion of analytes recovered from the soil in step 1 of the BCR extraction scheme, for all analytes, and also enhanced metal uptake by plants. The sum of the amounts of analyte released in the first three steps of the sequential extraction, commonly regarded as the maximum amount of elements potentially available for plant uptake, was not positively correlated with plant-uptake.  相似文献

Soils from cocoa plantations treated with Boudreaux mixture in two southwestern states of Nigeria were collected at different depths, 0–15 cm and 15–30 cm, and subjected to five-stage sequential extraction to obtain the speciation forms of copper: exchangeable, carbonate, manganese and iron oxides, organic and residual fractions. The Cu content in the extracts from the sequential extraction was read with an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The total Cu content of the soil and the physicochemical parameters of the soils were also determined. The results from the study showed that the soils had high organic matter and copper is mostly bounded to the more mobile exogenic phase much more than the stable lithogenic phase, indicating higher mobility. Within the exogenic species, carbonate fraction was the highest followed by the organic bound and the exchangeable fraction in decreasing order. Cu was not detected in the Fe/Mn bound fraction. The implication is that the fate of the administered Cu-based pesticide is more in the relatively stable carbonate bound species than the other, more mobile phase. The results showed variation in the distribution of the copper species from one depth to another. The most transported metal from the surface to the lower layer is the exchangeable fraction. The carbonate bound species is less mobile and is not readily transported into the bottom soil layer. The organic bound Cu has nearly equal distribution between the top and bottom soils and there was little or no transport of the residual metal specie from the top to the bottom. The existence of copper in the soil largely in the anthropogenic (exogenous) phase is not the most desirable for the ecosystem. This may increase the availability of Cu in the cocoa plant and bean and may lead to potential exposure risk.  相似文献

A geographic survey of 14 south-west Tasmanian sedgeland-heaths revealed that soil organic matter is related to: water content: total nitrogen (N): total and exchangeable sodium (Na), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg); exchangeable potassium (K) cation exchange capacity; and total exchangeable bases. However, total and available phosphorus (P), total K and Iron (Fe). pH level and percentage base saturation were found to be Independent of organic content. Most of the soil nutrient capital is contained In the A0 horizon, the depth of which was found to be positively related to the time elapsed since the last fire. There is no clear relationship between rock type and soil fertility, but there is evidence of soil-vegetation interaction. The sedgeland-heath species have lower concentrations of P, Ca and Mg in their foliage and are more efficient In the withdrawal of P and K upon tissue senescence than the surrounding scrub and forest species. Over a vegetation transition from sedgeland-heath to forest on uniform geology there was a change in soil type. The forest was found to have more fertile soils and a higher concentration of nutrients in the above-ground biomass than the adjacent sedgeland-heath. The ecotone was burnt between 20–30 years prior to sampling, but the fire did not kill all the forest trees, and the structural differences suggest a mare rapid recovery of forest species. Soil fertility appears to be an important factor in controlling the rate of recovery and succession following a fire, especially if the nutrient-rich organic layer is burnt.  相似文献

分析了湖南烟区主要土壤类型交换性钙、镁元素含量状况及其对烟叶品质的影响,结果表明:(1)土壤交换性钙、镁含量在不同土壤类型间存在显著性差异,交换性钙含量平均为8.87cmol/kg,以红壤含量最高;交换性镁含量平均为1.16cmol/kg,以黄棕壤含量最高;交换性钙镁比值大小依次为:红壤(11.74)>水稻土(10.25)>黄壤(6.84)>黄棕壤(6.14),在烟叶实际生产中,应重视镁肥在红壤和水稻土中的施用;(2)烟叶钙含量偏高(21.93g/kg±4.37g/kg),烟叶镁含量偏低(2.52g/kg±1.26g/kg),两者均存在广泛的变异性;(3)整体来看,烟叶钙含量随土壤中交换性钙含量的升高和镁含量的降低而显著升高;烟叶镁含量随土壤交换性镁含量的升高而升高,与土壤交换性钙含量的相关性不显著;(4)典型相关分析表明,土壤中交换性镁含量的降低可能引起烟叶钾含量的提高,从而使得烟叶钾素和镁素含量达到较好的平衡;(5)土壤交换性钙、镁含量与烟叶其它化学成分指标的相关分析表明,土壤交换性钙有利于烟株对硼和氯素的吸收,对氮、锌和锰素的吸收则有显著的抑制作用;而土壤交换性镁有利于烟叶总糖、硼素和锰素的积累,对氮、磷、铁和锌素的吸收具有显著的抑制作用。  相似文献

In continental Europe, the heavy metal hyperaccumulator Thlaspi caerulescens occurs both on heavy-metal polluted soils (subsp. calaminare) and on soils with normal heavy metal content (subsp. caerulescens). In order to assess the extent and partitioning of variation in heavy metal tolerance and foliar mineral composition, twelve families from two populations of each subspecies were grown in pots in four soil treatments differing in heavy metal (Zn, Pb) and macronutrient concentrations. The two subspecies differed systematically in many respects. Subsp. calaminare had a higher survival at high levels of heavy metals and a higher tolerance index in all treatments. It also had three times lower foliar zinc and lead concentrations when grown at moderate levels of heavy metals. This, together with a negative correlation of foliar Pb concentration with growth in subsp. caerulescens, suggests that heavy metal accumulation per se is not a mechanism of tolerance in this species. Variation among families within populations accounted for a larger proportion of total variance in growth and mineral composition than variation between populations. Additionally, within population variation in heavy metal tolerance and accumulation was significantly lower in subsp. calaminare. This suggests that, adding to a background constitutive tolerance at the species level, natural selection has increased heavy metal tolerance in metallicolous populations of Thlaspi caerulescens.  相似文献

Summary A comparison of the various indices of calcium availability and degree of dispersion of the soils showed that Mehlich's 1.0 me H method may be a good index of calcium availability for a particular group of soils, but the modified calcium-release value of the exchangeable phase was a superior index when a more diversified group of soils was involved. The type of the clay, cation-exchange capacity, organic matter content,etc. were the most likely factors to influence the choice of the method.The indices based on exchangeable ions were superior to those based on ion concentration in solution for predicting the dispersability of the soil.  相似文献

Natural populations of woody perennials on lead-mining sites in the Mechernich area of the Eifel Mountains were investigated with respect to soil factors determining the degree and type of heavy metal tolerance. Salix caprea L. (Goat Willow) grew on soils with up to 17000 mg kg–1 total lead (ca. 4000 mg kg–1 ammonium acetate-exchangeable Pb). Betula pendula Roth (Silver Birch) was found on soils containing as much as 29000 mg kg–1 total lead (7000 mg kg–1 ammonium acetate-exchangeable Pb). Other woody perennials, with the exception of the dwarf shrub Calluna vulgaris, were not found in the contaminated area even though they did occur in the immediate vicinity. The two lead-tolerant tree species did not form mixed populations.Because of a significantly lower Pb/Ca ratio in Salix soils (2.2) compared with Betula soils (7.4), a calcium-dependent mechanism of lead tolerance is suggested for Salix, but not for Betula.The Betula population could be divided into two groups, each showing a highly significant correlation between root-lead content and exchangeable lead amounts in the soil, but with different levels of lead uptake. The only soil factor distinguishing the two groups was found to be the level of soluble phosphate. A distinctly low level of soil phosphate correlated with a high lead concentration in roots of the one group (30000 mg Pb kg–1 DW), whereas high phosphate amounts corresponded with a much lower lead concentration in roots of the other (12000 mg Pb kg–1 DW–1). Since the correlation between lead in the soil and in plants was similar for the two groups, it is concluded that the type of lead tolerance in Betula is determined by the status of plant phosphate nutrition, rather than by simple phosphate precipitation in the soil.A comparison of growth between different populations of Betula seedlings on homogenized soils from the mining area revealed the Mechaernich population to be a distinct ecotype with respect to lead tolerance. The control population obtained from a non-contaminated area exhibited a lower degree of lead tolerance coupled with a two-step strategy of adaptation to lead.  相似文献

喀斯特地区土壤的高钙含量是影响该地区植物生理特征的最重要环境因素之一。高钙影响植物的光合作用、生长速率及磷代谢, 从而限制了许多物种在该地区的分布。选取贵州4个石漠化程度不同的地区, 测定采集地内45种优势种或常见种的地上部分和地下部分的全钙含量以及土壤的交换性钙含量。通过分析喀斯特地区植物与土壤钙含量的特征发现: 喀斯特地区植物具有较高的钙含量平均值; 土壤交换性钙含量对植物地上部分钙含量的影响总体上不显著, 对植物地下部分钙含量的影响显著; 不同类别植物的钙含量存在显著差异, 蕨类植物地上部分钙含量平均值明显低于被子植物; 不同类别植物钙的分布部位也存在显著差异, 在蕨类植物和单子叶植物中地上部分和地下部分的钙含量相近, 而双子叶植物的地上部分钙含量明显高于地下部分。分析了喀斯特地区14种优势灌木和草本植物地上部分与地下部分钙含量的差异性以及与土壤交换性钙含量的相关关系, 以此为根据将14种优势植物对土壤高钙的适应方式分为3种类型: 随遇型、高钙型和低钙型。随遇型植物的钙含量主要受土壤交换性钙含量影响, 其地上部分和地下部分的钙含量均与土壤交换性钙含量成显著正相关关系; 高钙型植物具有较强的钙富集能力, 其地上部分即使在低钙含量的土壤中也可维持较高的钙含量; 低钙型植物的地上部分即使在高钙含量的土壤中亦可维持较低的钙含量。对植物适应钙的不同方式的研究可用于筛选退化生态系统恢复所需的植物资源。  相似文献

In Northern Italy it is a common practice to utilise slurries and other manure from intensive animal farming to fertilise agricultural soils. Due to the relatively high copper and zinc contents of these materials, this practice could lead to contamination of soils and the crops grown on them. In this study we have evaluated the extent of copper and zinc contamination of soils subjected to different levels of fertilisation with liquid manure and the copper and zinc concentrations in the edible tissues of three crops (maize, sugar beet and lucerne) grown on the same soils. There was a direct correlation between soil copper and zinc contents and the levels of application of animal wastes and copper concentrations were high enough to represent a risk, according to current European legislation. The metal contents in the edible tissues of the three crops were relatively low and variable, but showed no clear correlations with the intensity of liquid manure applications. Overall, there was no risk of contamination of the food chain, as all concentrations were well below levels considered to be toxic to animals.  相似文献

SUMMARY. The algal flora of the Rivers Hayle and Gannel. whieh drain copper and lead mining regions of Cornwall, are described and compared. Although fluctuations in the rarer members of the algal communities were observed, the dominant filamentous algae at most sites did not change over the year of study. Both the total algal abundance and the number of species were depressed at high metal sites. Associations of species that were evident in field samples were confirmed and correlated with water metal levels by principal component analysis. The close similarity between the flora of similar sites on the copper-polluted River Hayle and the lead-polluted River Gannei implies that the degree of metal pollution, rather than the polluting metal per se, determines the species present. All mine sites were characterized by a Microspora -community whereas a Zygnemales community of Spirogyra and Mougeotia species was typical of low metal pollution. Moderately polluted sites downsteam of the mines had an intermediate flora of Zygnemaies, Microsporales. Ulotrichales and gelatinous Volvocales and Tetrasporales species. No species could be said to invariably indicate metal pollution; the most abundant species at highly contaminated sites were also those with the widest distributions. Field samples of filamentous algae (mainly Spirogyra, Zygogonium, Mougeotia and Microspora species) contained metal concentrations several orders of magnitude greater than ambient levels. For copper and iron, both algal metal contents and concentration ratios (μg g-1 algae/μg ml-1 water) were positive functions of water metal levels, although algal iron appeared to plateau at water concentrations of about 1 mg ml-1. Algal lead concentrations, but not the concentration ratios, also were positively correlated with water lead levels. Thus, for these three metals, the algal metal contents were indicative of ambient conditions. In contrast, algal zinc concentrations were nearly constant and consequently the concentration ratios for this metal were inversely related to water levels. This result suggests that unlike the uptake of other metals, uptake of zinc by these aigae may be strictly regulated.  相似文献

Deficient or excessive levels of blood trace elements can be an adverse factor in human and animal pregnancy. The aim of this study was to investigate possible differences in the levels of serum magnesium, calcium, copper, and zinc in preeclamptic and healthy pregnant women. Samples were collected from 30 preeclamptic (PE) and 30 healthy pregnant (HP) women. The serum copper concentration was significantly lower in the PE group by 68% (p<0.0001) when compared to the healthy controls. The serum zinc and calcium were 43% and 10% lower in the PE women, respectively (both with p<0.0001), whereas the magnesium concentration showed nonsignificant differences between the two groups. Measurement of these elements may be useful for the early diagnosis of a preeclamptic condition.  相似文献

当今土壤重金属污染日趋严重而表征土壤污染程度 的指标不够完善、相关性亦较差。为此,采用网室盆栽试验,研究了河北平原主要土壤类型潮土和潮褐土上Cd、Pb的化学形态特征及其与油菜植株干物重、油菜吸收重金属含量的关系。结果表明Cd对油菜的毒害作用大于Pb。总量及各形态Cd、Pb含量与油菜可食部分干物重呈负相关,对油菜干物重影响最大的是交换态Cd、Pb。而对油菜吸收Cd、Pb贡献最大的形态是碳酸盐结合态和铁锰氧化物结合态。深入研究重金属形成与植物有效性间的关系,可为进一步揭示重金属的生物有效性,为更准确评价土壤重金属污染程度提供理论依据,具有重要的理论意义和实际应用价值。  相似文献

Five plant species were cultivated on a soil from the Neckar alluvial fan near Heidelberg (FRG) polluted by the emissions of a cement plant. Thallium, cadmium and lead concentrations in seedlings and mature plants were determined by atomic absorption analysis. AdditionallyBrassica napus L.napus was grown on soils containing 5 different concentrations of heavy metals, achieved by mixing two similar soils, from the same area but with different metal concentrations. Thallium and cadmium were shown to be taken up by roots whilst lead which was also absorbed, was deposited mainly on the plant surface. However during cultivation in the winter months, a remarkable deposit of lead via the roots was found. Thallium in the soil from a anthrorogen source was more available to plants than thallium of geological origin. During the lifetime of a plant concentrations of thallium and cadmium were always highest in the seedling. The decrease in metal concentration with maturity depended on the plant species and the element, but was not a function of the metal concentration in the soil.  相似文献

Hormesis is the term to describe a stimulatory effects associated with a low dose of a potentially toxic substance or stress. We had anecdotal evidence of hormetic effects in some of our previous experiments concerning the influence of heavy metals on aquatic snail growth and recruitment. We therefore repeated a version of an earlier experiment but this time we expanded our low-dose treatments and increased our sample size. We also explored if metals had a hormetic effect on algae periphyton. We raised snails in outdoor mini-ecosystems containing lead, zinc, and cadmium-contaminated soil from an Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site in the Silver Valley of northern Idaho. The snails came from two sites. One population (Physella columbiana) has evolved for 120 years in the presence of heavy metals and one (Lymnaea palustris) has not. We found that P. columbiana exhibited hormesis with snails exposed to small amounts of metals exhibiting more reproduction and growth than snails not exposed to metals. Naturally occurring Oscillatoria algae also exhibited a hormetic effect of heavy metals but L. palustris did not display hormesis. Large doses negatively impacted all three species. Overall the levels of cadmium, lead, and zinc measured in the tissues of the snails were inversely correlated to the number of snails recruited into the tub populations. Only in comparisons of the lowest metal treatment to the control treatment is a positive effect detected. Indirect effects on competing species of snails, periphyton, and also fishermen, may be less favorable.  相似文献

Acidolysis, complexolysis and metal accumulation were involved in solubilization of zinc phosphate and pyromorphite by a selection of soil fungi representing ericoid and ectomycorrhizal plant symbionts and an endophytic/entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria caledonica. Zinc phosphate was much more readily solubilized than pyromorphite. According to the relationship between metal mobilization and pH, acidolysis (protonation) was found to be the major mechanism of both zinc phosphate and pyromorphite dissolution for most of the fungi examined. In general, the more metal tolerant fungal strains yielded more biomass, acidified the medium more and dissolved more of the metal mineral than less tolerant strains. However, B. caledonica 4 excreted a substantial amount of oxalic acid (~ 0.8 mM) in the presence of pyromorphite that coincided with a dramatic increase in lead mobilization providing a clear example of complexolysis. Organic acid excretion by fungi was inter- and intraspecific and was strongly influenced by the presence of the toxic metal minerals. When grown on zinc phosphate or pyromorphite, Hymenoscyphus ericae DGC3(UZ) accumulated the lowest metal concentration, but Thelephora terrestris accumulated the highest metal concentration in the biomass. The ability to accumulate water-soluble lead species, representing mainly cytosolic and vacuolar pools, seemed to be connected with pyromorphite-solubilizing ability. B. caledonica 4, which demonstrated the highest ability to dissolve pyromorphite, accumulated the highest water-soluble fraction and total lead concentration in the mycelium. Generally, isolates with a higher zinc-tolerance accumulated significantly less total zinc from zinc phosphate (including the sum of water-soluble and NaCl-extractable zinc) than non-tolerant strains.  相似文献
