A phylogeny of all eight recognized taxa of the genus Thunnus was constructed from approximately 400 base pairs of sequence of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region. The PCR-amplified control region I segment studied contained a total of 186 variable sites and 159 phylogenetically informative sites. Diagnostic sequences for every taxon were identified. Neighbour-joining phylogenies supported monophyletic origins of the temperate subgenus Thunnus and of the tropical subgenus Neothunnus . Similar results were obtained by maximum parsimony analyses except that there was no support for a monophyletic origin of the subgenus Thunnus . Bigeye tuna, which have been difficult to place in either subgenus using conventional morphological data, was identified as the sister species of Neothunnus . Within the subgenus Thunnus , the Atlantic bluefin and Southern bluefin tunas were shown to be sister taxa of the highly divergent monophyletic clade formed by the Pacific northern bluefin and the Albacore tunas. The conspecific Atlantic ( T. thynnus thynnus ) and Pacific ( T. t. orientalis ) northern bluefin tunas were more divergent (Tamura-Nei distance 0·145 ± 0·019) from each other than the average distance separating most species-pairs within the genus. Thus, a re-examination of their status as subspecies of T. thunnus is warranted.  相似文献

Ainscough, B.J., Breinholt, J.W., Robison, H.W. & Crandall, K.A. (2013). Molecular phylogenetics of the burrowing crayfish genus Fallicambarus (Decapoda: Cambaridae). —Zoologica Scripta, 42, 306–316. The crayfish genus Fallicambarus contains 19 species of primary burrowing freshwater crayfish divided into two distinct subgenera. We test current hypotheses of the phylogenetic relationships among species within the genus as well as the monophyly of the genus. Our study samples all 19 species for five gene regions (both nuclear and mitochondrial) to estimate a robust phylogenetic hypothesis for the genus. We show that the genus is not a monophyletic group. The subgenus Creaserinus does fall out as a monophyletic group, but distinct from the subgenus Fallicambarus. The subgenus Fallicambarus appears to be monophyletic with the exception of the species Procambarus (Tenuicambarus) tenuis, which falls in the midst of this subgenus suggesting that it might be better classified as a Fallicambarus species. We also show that the species Fallicambarus fodiens is a species complex with distinct evolutionary lineages that are regionalized to different geographic areas.  相似文献

A taxonomic revision, based mainly on morphological and distributional criteria, is presented for all taxa ofTrillium subgen.Phyllantherum Raf., which is characterized by sessile flowers. The 22 species recognized as valid include 17 morpho-geographical species in the eastern United States and five in the northwestern United States and California. These species form three morphological alliances that are characterized informally as “species groups.” All the taxa are described, and a key to species and varieties is provided. Five new species are described:Trillium decipiens, T. reliquum, T. foetidissimum, T. albidum, and T. kurabayashii; and a new status,T. angustipetalum (Torrey) Freeman, based onT. sessile var.angustipetalum Torrey, is proposed. Six new flower color forms are described:T. reliquum f. luteum, T. stamineum f. Iuteum, T. maculatum F. luteum, T. maculatum f. simulans, T. foetidissimum f. luteum, and T. cuneatum f. luteum. County distribution maps are included for all species and varieties, and an annotated synonymy is presented for each taxon.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of Lordiphosa and some taxa in Drosophilinae were analysed on the basis of a total of forty‐one selected drosophilid species. These included eighteen species of five Lordiphosa species‐groups as the main target, twenty‐three species representative of the major drosophiline ingroup taxa and four species of Steganinae as outgroup. Sixty‐eight morphological characters of adults were subjected to cladistic analysis. From the results it is concluded that Lordiphosa is polyphyletic; the Lo. tenuicauda species‐group and genus Nesiodrosophila form a single monophyletic group; Lordiphosa proper (i.e. Lordiphosa spp. minus the tenuicauda group) comprises another monophyletic group; within Lordiphosa proper the fenestrarum, nigricolor and denticeps groups are all monophyletic, but monophyly of the miki group is not strongly supported; genera Hirtodrosophila and Scaptomyza and subgenus Sophophora are all monophyletic; and within Drosophilinae, genus Scaptodrosophila is the first to have split from the main lineage, but the branching order of other clades, Chymomyza, Lordiphosa proper, Sophophora, Hirtodrosophila, Nesiodrosophila+ Lo. tenuicauda group, Scaptomyza, Dorsilopha and subgenus Drosophila, remains unresolved. The topology of maximum parsimony cladograms suggests that Lordiphosa proper lies close to Sophophora as proposed previously, although its phylogenetic position could not be determined conclusively. By contrast, bootstrap values tended to contradict another hypothesis that Lordiphosa and Scaptomyza are sister groups.  相似文献

In an attempt to reconstruct the natural taxonomic system for Nitella, 17 species of Nitella subgenus Tieffallenia were reexamined using SEM observations of the internal morphology of the oospore wall (IMOW) and phylogenetic analyses of 4553 base pairs from multiple DNA markers (atpB, rbcL, psaB, and ITS‐5.8S rRNA genes). Our SEM observations identified three types of IMOW: homogeneous (HG), weakly spongy (W‐SG), and strongly spongy (S‐SG) types. Based on differences in the IMOW, species with reticulate or tuberculate oospore wall ornamentation in the external morphology of the oospore wall (EMOW) were subdivided into two distinct groups (characterized by the HG or S‐SG types of IMOW, respectively), which were robustly separated from each other in our molecular phylogenetic analyses. In our molecular phylogeny, the subgenus Tieffallenia consisted of four robust monophyletic groups—three clades of the HG type and a spongy (S‐SG and W‐SG) type clade—that were characterized by differences in the IMOW and EMOW. In addition, our SEM observations and sequence data verified the distinct status of five species (N. japonica Allen, N. oligospira A. Braun, N. vieillardii stat. nov., N. imperialis stat. nov., and N. morongii Allen) that R. D. Wood had assigned as infraspecific taxa. Moreover, our SEM observations of the IMOW also suggested that N. megaspora (J. Groves) Sakayama originally identified by LM includes at least two distinct species, characterized by W‐SG and S‐SG types of IMOW, respectively.  相似文献

Marine rockpools represent a dynamic ecosystem where inhabiting species usually suffer changeable conditions, with consequent phenomena of local populations’ size expansions and reductions. Nevertheless, a few specialized insect groups are known to live in marine rockpools, and among them, several species belong to the water beetle family Hydraenidae. Three groups of Ochthebius sensu lato (s.l.) live in fact in marine rockpools: the putative subgenus Calobius, the former subgenus Cobalius (both mostly Mediterranean–Macaronesian) and two species of the O. capicola group from South Africa. In this work, we performed a molecular phylogeny of Ochthebius s.l., running molecular clocks, aiming to address the following questions: Are these three groups related? Which is their position within Ochthebius s.l.? How many different times and in how many lineages of Ochthebius s.l. a shift from inland waters to marine rockpools environments happened? Is the current taxonomic status of these three groups supported by genetics? We found that Calobius, Cobalius and the O. capicola group represent three distinct groups, with no sister relationships, suggesting that a shift from fresh/brackish waters to marine rockpools happened independently at least three different times along the diversification of the genus. Cobalius represents an effective separate subgenus, whereas such a rank is not supported by molecular data for Calobius, which represents a monophyletic clade within the nominal subgenus Ochthebius sensu stricto (s.str.). However, as Calobius is monophyletic and characterized by strongly peculiar and distinguishing morphology, we suggest referring to this group as the ‘Calobius’ lineage. Three Mediterranean taxa within this lineage represent likely valid new species, to be described soon. In the same way, the taxonomy of Cobalius should be revised, with two previously formally recognized species found to be paraphyletic, and the possible presence of two additional cryptic species.  相似文献

We have sequenced most of the coding region of the gene Dopa decarboxylase (Ddc) in 24 fruitfly species. The Ddc gene is quite informative about Drosophila phylogeny. Several outstanding issues in Drosophila phylogeny are resolved by analysis of the Ddc sequences alone or in combination with three other genes, Sod, Adh, and Gpdh. The three species groups, melanogaster, obscura, and willistoni, are each monophyletic and all three combined form a monophyletic group, which corresponds to the subgenus Sophophora. The Sophophora subgenus is the sister group to all other Drosophila subgenera (including some named genera, previously considered outside the Drosophila genus, namely, Scaptomyza and Zaprionus, which are therefore downgraded to the category of subgenus). The Hawaiian Drosophila and Scaptomyza are a monophyletic group, which is the sister clade to the virilis and repleta groups of the subgenus Drosophila. The subgenus Drosophila appears to be paraphyletic, although this is not definitely resolved. The two genera Scaptodrosophila and Chymomyza are older than the genus Drosophila. The data favor the hypothesis that Chymomyza is older than Scaptodrosophila, although this issue is not definitely resolved. Molecular evolution is erratic. The rates of nucleotide substitution in 3rd codon position relative to positions 1 + 2 vary from one species lineage to another and from gene to gene. The systematics and phylogeny of the genus Arenaria and allied genera are unresolved. The use of morphological data has resulted in contradictory taxonomic concepts in the past due to their homoplastic nature. We present a phylogenetic analysis based on internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and rps16 sequence data of 140 (132 taxa) and 131 (120 taxa) accessions, respectively. Maximum parsimony and Bayesian analyses of each marker produced nearly congruent trees. Monophyly of Arenaria s.s. and Eremogone is confirmed here. Our results corroborate earlier results indicating that Arenaria subgenus Odontostemma is monophyletic, but outside the core group of Arenaria. Arenaria subgenus Solitaria is sister to Odontostemma and also not closely related to the latter; both of these subgenera are excluded from Arenaria and treated as distinct genera. The molecular data indicate that the ‘Arenaria s.s. clade’ consists of a few well‐supported subgroups and that the current subgeneric classification of the genus does not reflect evolutionary history. Arenaria subgenus Leiosperma is clearly monophyletic, but we reduce it to sectional level. Our molecular data show that the monotypic Arenaria subgenera Porphyrantha and Arenariastrum are nested in A. subgenus Arenaria, whereas subgenus Eremogoneastrum is included in Eremogone. None of the species‐rich sections in subgenus Arenaria is monophyletic. © 2015 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2015, 178 , 648–669.  相似文献

Sideritis L. (Lamiaceae) comprises approximately 150 species of annuals and perennials distributed chiefly in the Mediterranean region. The majority of the species belong to the continental subgenus Sideritis which is divided into two perennial (Sideritis and Empedoclea) and two annual (Hesiodia and Burgsdorfia) sections. Twenty-three species are woody perennials endemic to the Macaronesian archipelagos of Madeira and the Canary Islands. In an effort to determine the continental origin of the insular group, we constructed independent phylogenies comprising sequence data from both chloroplast and nuclear markers. Sampling included 7 island taxa drawn from the Macaronesian subgenus Marrubiastrum and 25 continental taxa representing all four sections of subgenus Sideritis. Subgenus Marrubiastrum and the two continental perennial sections form well-supported monophyletic groups in both individual and combined analyses. The annual sections are not monophyletic in any analysis; further sampling of annual taxa is needed to resolve these relationships. All analyses identified Sideritis cossoniana, an annual species from Morocco, as the closest continental relative of the Macaronesian group. This contrasts with the hypothesis of earlier workers who suggested that the insular taxa were most closely related to eastern Mediterranean species of the genus. The phylogenies also demonstrate a distinct increase in woodiness among the Macaronesian species relative to their continental congeners, providing further support for the secondary nature of woodiness in island plants.  相似文献

We present a phylogenetic hypothesis for 72 ,,Drosophila“ species, constructed through analysis from the paralogous alpha methyldopa (amd) and dopa decarboxylase (ddc) nuclear genes (encompassing a total of 2015 base pairs). Our data support the subdivision of the paraphyletic subgenus ,,Drosophila“ into three main radiations (the immigrans‐tripunctata, the virilis‐repleta and the Hawaiian Drosophilidae), each of which is further subdivided to originate monophyletic ‘sub‐radiations’. Moreover, this study raises the possibility that the Zaprionus/Liodrosophila species encompass a fourth radiation within the subgenus ,,Drosophila“ phylogeny and provides temporal estimates for each of the postulated divergence events.  相似文献

Electrophoretic variation of isoenzyme characters encoded by 20 gene loci has been studied in 9 species of Asian beans, comprising subgenus Ceratotropis of the genus Vigna. Four species of hypogeal germination type, V. angularis, V. umbellata, V. dalzelliana and V. minima, are shown to form a distinct monophyletic group in the subgenus, sharing common electromorphs of two major isoenzymes of aspartate aminotransferase. V. glabrescens is confirmed to be an allotetraploid derivate of two diploids closely related to V. radiata and V. umbellata, but divergent from their contemporary accessions analyzed. V. trilobata is the most variable species of the subgenus in isoenzyme characters. It reveals intraspecific differentiation at several isoenzyme loci correlated with the seed morphology and geographical localization.  相似文献

Partial sequences of the rpoC1 gene from two species of angiosperms and three species of gymnosperms (8330 base pairs) were determined and compared. The data obtained support the hypothesis that angiosperms and gymnosperms are monophyletic and none of the recent groups of the latter is sister to angiosperms. Variation in the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene (1143 bp) was examined to estimate the phylogenetic relationships of taxa within the Peromyscus boylii species group. In addition, phylogenetic relationships among the aztecus, boylii, and truei species groups were addressed. Maximum-likelihood, neighbor-joining, and maximum-parsimony (weighted and equally weighted) analyses produced similar topologies with P. boylii, P. beatae, P. simulus, P. stephani, P. madrensis, P. levipes, and three undescribed taxa from western Mexico forming a monophyletic unit. At least two of the undescribed taxa from western Mexico potentially represent species. Members of the P. aztecus species group formed a clade separate from the P. boylii group and should be recognized as a distinct species group. P. sagax, P. polius, and P. pectoralis, formerly placed in the P. boylii species group, generally formed an unresolved polytomy with the P. truei, P. aztecus, and P. boylii species groups. P. attwateri formed a sister taxon relationship with members of the P. truei species group (P. difficilis and P. nasutus) and should be considered a member of this group. Members of the P. truei species group did not form a monophyletic unit, indicating that this species group is not monophyletic and may be composed of two assemblages.  相似文献

Chloroplast DNA of 22 species of Acacia (Tourn.) Miller was digested with ten restriction endonucleases, Southern-blotted and probed with cloned fragments covering the chloroplast genome of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.). Phyletic and phenetic analyses of the resulting 176 polymorphic bands recorded among the 22 species were performed. The phylogram was reconstructed using heuristic search and Wagner parsimony. The resulting most parsimonious consensus phylogram displayed three major phyletic lineages, consistent with the previously established three subgenera of Acacia. The 10 species of subgenus Acacia and the 6 species of subgenus Heterophyllum formed two monophyletic sister clades. The 5 species of subgenus Aculeiferum studied and Acacia albida (Syn. Faidherbia albida) grouped together and were basal to the clades of subgenera Acacia and Heterophyllum. The phylogram indicated that subgenus Heterophyllum diverged earlier from subgenus Aculeiferum than did subgenus Acacia; however, the phenogram indicated the reverse. The study indicated that A. nilotica and A. farnesiana are sister species, though A. nilotica is Afro-Asiatic and A. farnesiana is American. The phenogram separated the three subgenera in agreement with the phylogram, but the two dendrograms differed regarding the topologies of the species and the distance of evolution between subgenera Acacia and Heterophyllum. Pterostichus thunbergi Morawitz and its related species of Japan are revised based on the structure of membranous parts of their genitalia for the first time, under the name of the thunbergi species group. This species group is monophyletic and is placed in the subgenus Morphnosoma Lutshnik. The monotypic subgenus Moritapterus Berlov, erected for P. thunbergi, is synonymized with Morphnosoma. Comparative study of the endophallus revealed that P. thunbergi michinoku Nakane is a junior synonym of P. habui and that four species should be recognized in this group. Three of them are sympatric with P. thunbergi and one of them, Pterostichus (Morphnosoma) robustistylis, is described as a new species. Molecular phylogeny based on the COI gene (mitochondrial [mt]DNA) supported its independence as a distinct species. The resultant trees of mtDNA and comparative study of morphology revealed that P. thunbergi is probably non‐monophyletic. In the present study we suggest the presence of further cryptic species of Morphnosoma in Japan.  相似文献

Summary Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) restriction endonuclease patterns are used to examine phylogenetic relationships between Bromus subgenera Festucaria and Ceratochloa. Festucaria is considered monophyletic based on the L genome, while Ceratochloa encompasses two species complexes: the B. catharticus complex, which evolved by combining three different genomes, and the B. carinatus complex, which is thought to have originated from hybridization between polyploid species of B. catharticus and diploid members of Festucaria. All species of subgenus Ceratochloa (hexaploids and octoploids) were identical in chloroplast DNA sequences. Similarly, polyploid species of subgenus Festucaria, except for B. auleticus, were identical in cpDNA sequences. In contrast, diploid species of subgenus Festucaria showed various degrees of nucleotide sequence divergence. Species of subgenus Ceratochloa appeared monophyletic and phylogenetically closely related to the diploid B. anomalus and B. auleticus of subgenus Festucaria. The remaining diploid and polyploid species of subgenus Festucaria appeared in a distinct grouping. The study suggests that the B. catharticus complex must have been the maternal parent in the proposed hybrid origin of B. carinatus complex. Although there is no direct evidence for the paternal parent of the latter complex, the cpDNA study shows the complex to be phylogenetically very related to the diploid B. anomalus of subgenus Festucaria.  相似文献

Allium subgenus Melanocrommyum (Alliaceae) from Eurasia comprises about 150 mostly diploid species adapted to arid conditions. The group is taxonomically complicated with different and contradictory taxonomic treatments, and was thought to include a considerable number of hybrid species, as the taxa show an admixture of assumed morphological key characters. We studied the phylogeny of the subgenus, covering all existing taxonomic groups and their entire geographic distribution. We analyzed sequences of the nuclear rDNA internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) for multiple individuals of more than 100 species. Phylogenetic analyses of cloned and directly sequenced PCR products confirmed the monophyly of the subgenus, while most sections were either para- or polyphyletic. The splits of the large sections are supported by differences in the anatomy of flower nectaries. ITS data (i) demand a new treatment at sectional level, (ii) do not support the hypotheses of frequent gene flow among species, (iii) indicate that multiple rapid radiations occurred within different monophyletic groups of the subgenus, and (iv) detected separately evolving lineages within three morphologically clearly defined species (cryptic species). In two cases these lineages were close relatives, while in Allium darwasicum they fall in quite different clades in the phylogenetic tree. Fingerprint markers show that this result is not due to ongoing introgression of rDNA (ITS capture) but that genome-wide differences between both lineages exist. Thus, we report one of the rare cases in plants where morphologically indistinguishable diploid species occurring in mixed populations are non-sister cryptic species.  相似文献

A cladistic study of Anllastrum, Angophora and Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae). Transformed cladistic; character compatibility; branch and bound, and Farris-Wagner methods gave similar solutions in a cladistic study of Arillastrum, Angophora and Eucalyptus. These analyses, based on morphological characters, indicate that Eucalyptus is a monophyletic group and that its sister taxon is Angophora.
Within Eucalyptus , subgenera Blakella and Corymbia are sister taxa to all other groups; subgenera Monocalyptus, Idiogenes and Gaubaea form a monophyletic group with subgenus Monocalyptus sister to subgenera Idiogenes and Gaubaea ; subgenera Symphyomyrtus and Telocalyptus together also form a monophyletic group and, with Eucalyptus similis (subgenus Eudesmia group 4), are sister to the Monocalyptus group. Eucalyptus subgenus Telocalyptus (4 species), Eucalyptus subgenus Idiogenes (1 species) and Eucalyptus subgenus Gaubaea (2 species) should not be recognized as subgenera and some individual species need further examination. Eucalyptus subgenus Eudesmia is a paraphyletic group.
Some characters are identified as parallelisms, e.g. axillary inflorescences, sepaline operculum, bristle glands, and clustered anthers. A more congruent interpretation of the single operculum of Eucalyptus subgenus Monocalyptus as at least partly petaline rather than solely sepaline in origin is suggested.
The area relationships for the taxa are concordant with those derived from geological and climatological information. New Caledonia is sister area to Australia, and within Australia southwestern Australia is sister area to south-eastern and north-eastern Australia.  相似文献
