A 3D polymer‐network‐membrane (3D‐PNM) electrolyte is described for highly stable, solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) with excellent power‐conversion efficiency (PCE). The 3D‐PNM electrolyte is prepared by using one‐pot in situ cross‐linking polymerization on the surface of dye‐sensitized TiO2 particles in the presence of redox species. This method allows the direct connection of the 3D‐PNM to the surface of the TiO2 particles as well as the in situ preparation of the electrolyte gel during device assembly. There are two junction areas (liquid and solid‐state junctions) in the DSCs that employ conventional polymer electrolytes, and the major interface is at the liquid‐state junction. The solid‐state junction is dominant in the DSCs that employ the 3D‐PNM electrolyte, which exhibit almost constant performance during aging at 65 °C for over 700 h (17.0 to 17.2 mA cm–2). The best cell performance gives a PCE of 9.1%; this is slightly better than the performance of a DSC that employs a liquid electrolyte.  相似文献

Nickel oxide based p‐type dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) are limited in their efficiencies by poor fill factors (FFs). This work explores the origins of this limitation. Transient absorption spectroscopy identifies fast recombination between the injected hole and the dye anion under applied load as one of the predominant reasons for the poor FF of NiO‐based DSCs. A reduced hole injection efficiency, ηINJ, under applied load is found to play an equally important role. Both, the dye regeneration yield, ΦREG, and ηINJ decrease by approximately 40%–50% when moving from short‐ to open‐circuit conditions. Spectroelectrochemical measurements reveal that the electrochromic properties of NiO are a further limiting factor for the device performance leading to variable light‐harvesting efficiencies, ηLH, under applied load. The peak light‐harvesting efficiency decreases from 63% at short circuit to 57% at 600 mV reducing the FF of NiO DSCs by 5%. This effect is expected to be more pronounced for future devices with higher operating voltages. Incident, photon‐to‐electron conversion efficiency front–back analysis at applied bias is utilized to characterize the interfacial charge recombination. It is found that the recombination between the injected hole and the redox mediator has a surprisingly small effect on the FF.  相似文献

Cobalt‐based electrolytes are highly tunable and have pushed the limits of dye‐sensitized solar cells, enabling higher open‐circuit voltages and new record efficiencies. However, the performance of these electrolytes and a range of other electrolytes suffer from slow electron transfer at platinum counter electrodes. High surface area platinum would enhance catalysis, but pure platinum structures are too expensive in practice. Here, a material‐efficient host‐guest architecture is developed that uses an ultrathin layer of platinum deposited upon an electrically conductive scaffold, niobium‐doped tin oxide (NTO). This nanostructured composite enhances the counter electrode performance of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) using a Co(II/III)BPY3 electrolyte with an increased fill factor and power conversion efficiency (11.26%), compared to analogous flat films. The modular strategy is elaborated by integrating a light scattering layer onto the counter electrode to reflect unabsorbed light back to the photoanode to improve the short‐circuit current density and power conversion efficiency.  相似文献

Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) have attracted great interest as one of the most promising photovoltaic technologies, and transparent DSCs show potential applications as photovoltaic windows. However, the competition between light absorption for photocurrent generation and light transmittance for obtaining high transparency limits the performance of transparent DSCs. Here, transparent DSCs exhibiting a high light transmittance of 60.3% and high energy conversion efficiency (3.66%) are reported. The strategy is to create a cocktail system composed of ultraviolet and near‐infrared dye sensitizers that selectively and efficiently harvest light in the invisible or low‐eye‐sensitivity region while transmitting light in high‐eye‐sensitivity regions. This new design provides a reasonable approach for realizing high efficiency and transparency DSCs that have potential applications as photovoltaic windows.  相似文献

Organic solar cells that are free of burn‐in, the commonly observed rapid performance loss under light, are presented. The solar cells are based on poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) with varying molecular weights and a nonfullerene acceptor (rhodanine‐benzothiadiazole‐coupled indacenodithiophene, IDTBR) and are fabricated in air. P3HT:IDTBR solar cells light‐soaked over the course of 2000 h lose about 5% of power conversion efficiency (PCE), in stark contrast to [6,6]‐Phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)‐based solar cells whose PCE shows a burn‐in that extends over several hundreds of hours and levels off at a loss of ≈34%. Replacing PCBM with IDTBR prevents short‐circuit current losses due to fullerene dimerization and inhibits disorder‐induced open‐circuit voltage losses, indicating a very robust device operation that is insensitive to defect states. Small losses in fill factor over time are proposed to originate from polymer or interface defects. Finally, the combination of enhanced efficiency and stability in P3HT:IDTBR increases the lifetime energy yield by more than a factor of 10 when compared with the same type of devices using a fullerene‐based acceptor instead.  相似文献

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is used to deposit Pt nanoparticles at low temperature (25–150 °C) to fabricate highly transparent counter electrodes (CEs) for flexible dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The Pt nanoparticles (NPs) are deposited for different number of ALD cycles on indium tin oxide (ITO)/polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrates. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are used to assess the Pt NP loading, density, and size. There is a trade‐off between transparency and catalytic activity of the CE, and the best cell performances of back‐side‐illuminated DSCs (≈3.7% efficiency) are achieved for Pt ALD at temperatures in the range of 100–150 °C, even though deposition at 25 °C is also viable. The best cell produced with ALD platinized CE (100 cycles at 100 °C) outperforms the reference cells fabricated with electrodeposited and sputtered Pt CEs, with relative improvements in efficiency of 19% and 29%, respectively. In addition, these parameters are used to fabricate a large area CE for a sub‐module (active area of 17.6 cm2), resulting in an efficiency of 3.1%, which demonstrates the scalability of the process.  相似文献

Novel approaches for the fabrication of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) are reported in which all the main constituent materials are processed by laser radiation. In addition to laser sintering of the nanocrystalline TiO2 film it is shown that lasers can be successfully utilized for nc‐TiO2 film patterning, platinization of the counter‐electrode, and efficient gasket sealing. All the mentioned processes are optimized and utilized for the fabrication of the first efficient and durable all‐laser‐based DSCs. Under one sun A.M. 1.5 illumination the power conversion efficiency (PCE) is 5.3% (6.2% unmasked) and also greater than or equal to the PCE of the cell fabricated with the same materials set but processed using conventional procedures (5.2%). These results open up a new scenario for DSC technology, i.e., that of setting up an entire, laser‐based, three‐step DSC pilot production line with tangible advantages in terms of effective processing, automation, large area scalability, and embedded energy.  相似文献

Perylenes are well‐known pigments with excellent chemical, thermal, and photochemical stabilities and have been used in various optical and electronic fields. Although for sensitized mesoscopic solar cells there is rapid progress of metal‐free thiophene dyes, which now reach over 11.5% power conversion efficiency (PCE) at air mass 1.5 global (AM1.5G) conditions, the so far reported highest PCE of a perylene dye is only 6.8%. Here, a new metal‐free organic donor‐acceptor (D‐A) dye ( C261 ) featuring a bisarylamino functionalized N‐annulated perylene electron‐releasing segment and a cyanoacrylic acid electron‐withdrawing unit is synthesized. Combining a mesoporous titania film grafted by this structurally simple perylene dye with a non‐corrosive cobalt redox shuttle, an 8.8% PCE is achieved at an irradiance of the AM1.5G sunlight. By selecting the model dye G221 as a reference, theoretical calculations, steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopies, and electrical measurements are used to compare the energy‐levels, light absorptions, and mutichannel charge transfer dynamics that contribute to the photovoltaic behavior.  相似文献

The application of UV irradiation processes are successfully proposed for the first time in the fabrication of both of the two plastic electrodes in flexible dye solar cells (DSCs) and modules. For the realization of the photo‐electrode, a customized TiO2 paste formulation and UV processing method was developed which yields 134% (48%) performance enhancement with respect to the same (binder‐free) paste treated at 120 °C. UV treatment induces both complete removal of organic media and more efficient charge collection. Significantly, highly catalytic platinized flexible counter‐electrodes are also obtained via UV photo‐induced reduction of screen‐printed platinum precursor pastes based on hexachloroplatinic acid. Using both UV‐processed electrodes, a fully plastic DSC is fabricated with a conversion efficiency of 4.3% under 1 Sun (semitransparent) and 5.3% under 0.2 Sun (opaque). Performance is within 10% of the efficiency of a glass‐based DSC prepared with the same materials but with conventional high temperature processes. The material formulations and processes are simple, and easily up‐scaled over large areas, even directly and simultaneously applicable to the preparation of both the photo‐and counter‐electrode on the same substrate which enabled us to demonstrate the first module on plastic realized with a W series interconnection.  相似文献

A new design for an energy‐harvesting electrochromic window (EH‐ECW) based on the fusion of two technologies, organic electrochromic windows and dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), is presented. Unlike other power‐generating smart windows, such as photoelectrochromic devices that are passive and only contain two states (i.e., a closed‐circuit colored state and an open‐circuit bleaching state), EH‐ECW allows active tuning of the transmittance by varying the applied potential and it functions as a photovoltaic cell based on a DSSC. The resulting device demonstrates a fast switching rate of 1 s in both the bleaching and coloring processes through the use of an electrochromic polymer as a counter electrode layer. To increase the transmittance of the device, a cobalt redox couple and a light‐colored, yet efficient, organic dye are used. The organic dye contains a polymeric structure that contributes to the high cyclic stability. The device exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 4.5% (100 mW cm‐2) under AM 1.5 irradiation, a change in transmittance of 34% upon applied potential, and shows only 3% degradation in the PCE after 5000 cycles.  相似文献

A detailed investigation of the effect of hole transport material (HTM) pore filling on the photovoltaic performance of solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (ss‐DSCs) and the specific mechanisms involved is reported. It is demonstrated that the efficiency and photovoltaic characteristics of ss‐DSCs improve with the pore filling fraction (PFF) of the HTM, 2,2’,7,7’‐tetrakis‐(N, N ‐di‐ p ‐methoxyphenylamine)9,9’‐spirobifluorene(spiro‐OMeTAD). The mechanisms through which the improvement of photovoltaic characteristics takes place were studied with transient absorption spectroscopy and transient photovoltage/photocurrent measurements. It is shown that as the spiro‐OMeTAD PFF is increased from 26% to 65%, there is a higher hole injection efficiency from dye cations to spiro‐OMeTAD because more dye molecules are covered with spiro‐OMeTAD, an order‐of‐magnitude slower recombination rate because holes can diffuse further away from the dye/HTM interface, and a 50% higher ambipolar diffusion coefficient due to an improved percolation network. Device simulations predict that if 100% PFF could be achieved for thicker devices, the efficiency of ss‐DSCs using a conventional ruthenium‐dye would increase by 25% beyond its current value.  相似文献

Solution‐processed organic solar cells (OSCs) are promising low‐cost, flexible, portable renewable sources for future energy supply. The state‐of‐the‐art OSCs are typically fabricated from a bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) active layer containing well‐mixed donor and acceptor molecules in the nanometer regime. However, BHJ solar cells suffer from stability problems caused by the severe morphological changes upon thermal or illumination stress. In comparison, single‐component organic solar cells (SCOSCs) based on a double‐cable conjugated polymer with a covalently stabilized microstructure is suggested to be a key strategy for superior long‐term stability. Here, the thermal‐ and photostability of SCOSCs based on a model double‐cable polymer is systematically investigated. It is encouraging to find that under 90 °C & 1 sun illumination, the performance of SCOSCs remains substantially stable. Transport measurements show that charge generation and recombination (lifetime and recombination order) hardly change during the aging process. Particularly, the SCOSCs exhibit ultrahigh long‐term thermal stability with 100% PCE remaining after heating at temperature up to 160 °C for over 400 h, indicating an excellent candidate for extremely rugged applications.  相似文献

Flexible Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) solar cells are developed on polyimide (PI) foil by using a three‐stage co‐evaporation method. To deposit CIGS on a PI substrate, low temperature deposition process (below 440 °C) is investigated. By optimizing the three‐stage process, power conversion efficiency (PCE) values of 12.1% and 13.6% are obtained at maximum process temperatures of 400 °C and 440 °C, respectively (without anti‐reflection coating). The CIGS absorber deposited at 400 °C is grown with (220)/(204) rather than (112) as its dominant growth orientation, accompanied by highly homogeneous crystal structure and phases. Admittance spectroscopy reveals that the defect levels were lower in the CIGS absorber with (220)/(204) dominant growth orientation, which could have contributed to the PCE of 12.1%. The CIGS solar cell deposited at a temperature of 440 °C exhibits worse defect characteristics compared to that fabricated at 400 °C. However, the CIGS solar cell fabricated below 440 °C exhibited marginal double‐grading of Ga/(Ga + In) in the absorber layer, which resulted in an improved PCE of 13.6%. This result implies that at a temperature below 440 °C, the double‐grading of Ga/(Ga + In) is the more dominant factor causing the PCE improvement above 13%.  相似文献

Here we present the photovoltaic performance of solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) using a series of ullazine‐based metal‐free organic sensitizers and spiro‐MeOTAD as a hole‐transport material. A maximum of 4.95% power conversion efficiency measured under standard AM 1.5G illumination (100 mW cm?2) was achieved with the best performing ullazine dye, and was further improved to 5.40% through co‐sensitization with the triphenylamine‐based organic sensitizer, D35. This study investigates the effect of the molecular structure of the ullazine sensitizer on the performance in solid‐state DSCs.  相似文献

Remarkable power conversion efficiencies (PCE) of metal–halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are overshadowed by concerns about their ultimate stability, which is arguably the prime obstacle to commercialization of this promising technology. Herein, the problem is addressed by introducing ethane‐1,2‐diammonium (+NH3(CH2)2NH3+, EDA2+) cations into the methyl ammonium (CH3NH3+, MA+) lead iodide perovskite, which enables, inter alia, systematic tuning of the morphology, electronic structure, light absorption, and photoluminescence properties of the perovskite films. Incorporation of <5 mol% EDA2+ induces strain in the perovskite crystal structure with no new phase formed. With 0.8 mol% EDA2+, PCE of the MAPbI3‐based PSCs (aperture of 0.16 cm2) improves from 16.7% ± 0.6% to 17.9% ± 0.4% under 1 sun irradiation, and fabrication of larger area devices (aperture 1.04 cm2) with a certified PCE of 15.2% ± 0.5% is demonstrated. Most importantly, EDA2+/MA+‐based solar cells retain 75% of the initial performance after 72 h of continuous operation at 50% relative humidity and 50 °C under 1 sun illumination, whereas the MAPbI3 devices degrade by approximately 90% within only 15 h. This substantial improvement in stability is attributed to the steric and coulombic interactions of embedded EDA2+ in the perovskite structure.  相似文献

Zn(II)–porphyrin sensitizers, coded as SGT‐020 and SGT‐021 , are designed and synthesized through donor structural engineering. The photovoltaic (PV) performances of SGT sensitizer‐based dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are systematically evaluated in a thorough SM315 as a reference sensitizer. The effect of the donor ability and the donor bulkiness on photovoltaic performances is investigated for establishing the structure–performance relationship in the platform of porphyrin‐triple bond‐benzothiadiazole‐acceptor sensitizers. By introducing a more bulky fluorene unit to the amine group in the SM315 , the power conversion efficiency (PCE) is enhanced with the increased short‐circuit current (Jsc) and open‐circuit voltage (Voc), due to the improved light‐harvesting ability and the efficient prevention of charge recombination, respectively. As a consequence, a maximum PCE of 12.11% is obtained for SGT‐021 , whose PCE is much higher than the 11.70% PCE for SM315 . To further improve their maximum efficiency, the first parallel tandem DSSCs employing cobalt electrolyte in the top and bottom cells are demonstrated and an extremely high efficiency of 14% is achieved, which is currently the highest reported value for tandem DSSCs. The series tandem DSSCs give a remarkably high Voc value of >1.83 V. From this DSSC tandem configuration, 7.4% applied bias photon‐to‐current efficiency is achieved for solar water splitting.  相似文献

Tuning the blend composition is an essential step to optimize the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells. PCEs from devices of unoptimized donor:acceptor (D:A) weight ratio are generally significantly lower than optimized devices. Here, two high‐performance organic nonfullerene BHJ blends PBDB‐T:ITIC and PBDB‐T:N2200 are adopted to investigate the effect of blend ratio on device performance. It is found that the PCEs of polymer‐polymer (PBDB‐T:N2200) blend are more tolerant to composition changes, relative to polymer‐molecule (PBDB‐T:ITIC) devices. In both systems, short‐circuit current density (Jsc) is tracked closely with PCE, indicating that exciton dissociation and transport strongly influence PCEs. With dilute acceptor concentrations, polymer‐polymer blends maintain high electron mobility relative to the polymer‐molecule blends, which explains the dramatic difference in PCEs between them as a function of D:A blend ratio. In addition, polymer‐polymer solar cells, especially at high D:A blend ratio, are stable (less than 5% relative loss) over 70 d under continuous heating at 80 °C in a glovebox without encapsulation. This work demonstrates that all‐polymer solar cells show advantage in operational lifetime under thermal stress and blend‐ratio resilience, which indicates their high potential for designing of stable and scalable solar cells.  相似文献

Scaling large‐area solar cells is in high demand for the commercialization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with a high power‐conversion efficiency (PCE). However, few roll‐to‐roll‐compatible deposition methods for the formation of highly oriented uniform perovskite films are reported. Herein, a facile cold antisolvent bathing approach compatible with large‐area fabrication is introduced. The wet precursor films are submerged in a cold antisolvent bath at 0 °C, and the retarded nucleation and growth kinetics allow highly oriented perovskite to be grown along the [110] and [220] directions, perpendicular to the substrate. The high degree of the preferred crystal orientation benefits the effective charge extraction and reduces the amount of inter‐ and intra‐grain defects inside the perovskite films, improving the PCE from 16.48% (ambient‐bathed solar cell) to 18.50% (cold‐bathed counterpart). The cold antisolvent bathing method is employed for the fabrication of large‐area (8 × 10 cm2) PSCs with uniform photovoltaic device parameters, thereby verifying the scale‐up capability of the method.  相似文献

This work deals with the investigation of burn‐in loss in ternary blended organic photovoltaics (OPVs) prepared from a UV‐crosslinkable semiconducting polymer (P2FBTT‐Br) and a nonfullerene acceptor (IEICO‐4F) via a green solvent process. The synthesized P2FBTT‐Br can be crosslinked by UV irradiation for 150 s and dissolved in 2‐methylanisole due to its asymmetric structure. In OPV performance and burn‐in loss tests performed at 75 °C or AM 1.5G Sun illumination for 90 h, UV‐crosslinked devices with PC71BM show 9.2% power conversion efficiency (PCE) and better stability against burn‐in loss than pristine devices. The frozen morphology resulting from the crosslinking prevents lateral crystallization and aggregation related to morphological degradation. When IEICO‐4F is introduced in place of a fullerene‐based acceptor, the burn‐in loss due to thermal aging and light soaking is dramatically suppressed because of the frozen morphology and high miscibility of the nonfullerene acceptor (18.7% → 90.8% after 90 h at 75 °C and 37.9% → 77.5% after 90 h at AM 1.5G). The resulting crosslinked device shows 9.4% PCE (9.8% in chlorobenzene), which is the highest value reported to date for crosslinked active materials, in the first green processing approach.  相似文献

Poly‐dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films with 2D periodic inverted moth‐eye nanopatterns on one surface are implemented as antireflection (AR) layers on a glass substrate for efficient light capture in encapsulated organic solar cells (OSCs). The inverted moth‐eye nanopatterned PDMS (IMN PDMS) films are fabricated by a soft imprint lithographic method using conical subwavelength grating patterns formed by laser interference lithography/dry etching. Their optical characteristics, together with theoretical analysis using rigorous coupled‐wave analysis simulation, and wetting behaviors are investigated. For a period of 380 nm, IMN PDMS films laminated on glass substrates exhibit a hydrophobic surface with a water contact angle (θCA) of ≈120° and solar weighted transmittance (SWT) of ≈94.2%, both significantly higher than those (θCA≈ 36° and SWT ≈ 90.3%) of bare glass substrates. By employing IMN PDMS films with a period of 380 nm on glass substrates for OSCs, an enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.19% is obtained mainly due to the increased short‐circuit current density (Jsc) of 19.74 mA cm‐2 compared to the OSCs with the bare glass substrates (PCE = 5.16% and Jsc = 17.25 mA cm‐2). For the OSCs, the device stability is also studied.  相似文献
