Freshly collected effluent was treated with 2 ml formalin per litre and used to replace 150 g/kg of the dry matter of an all-meal control diet of bacon pigs. Diets containing effluent from either unwilted or wilted crops were compared with the control diet which was also given wet by adding water. Liveweight gains of 10 pigs per treatment from 65 to 86 kg on diets containing effluents from unwilted and wilted crops and on the control diet were 753, 715 and 719 ± 16.8 g/day, respectively, and in the same order feed conversion ratios (corrected to dry matter content of the control diet) were 2.94, 3.10 and 3.07 ± 0.075. None of these differences were significant. There were no significant differences in killing-out yield, in hardness of subcutaneous back-fat when measured by a penetrometer or in abnormal odour rating of subcutaneous back-fat.Formalin at levels of 1 and 2 ml/l and formic acid at levels of 1, 2 and 6 ml/l were added as potential preservatives to 1000 ml quantities of freshly collected silage effluent, which was then stored at 23°C. The 2 ml/l level of formalin and 6 ml/l level of formic acid prevented mould growth for 26 and 19 days, respectively.Freshly collected effluent was stored for 3.5, 14, 28, 56, 112 and 240 days after treatment, with formalin at the rate of 3 ml/l, and used in a pig-feeding trial. Pigs were fed either on a control all-meal diet or an equal dry matter intake of 150 g/kg effluent DM and 850 g/kg meal DM.A total of 120 animals were individually penned and fed twice daily on the experimental diets from 33 kg to slaughter at 82 kg liveweight. Overall mean liveweight gains for effluent and control diets were 646 and 656 ± 7.5 g/day, respectively, and the corresponding feed conversion ratios (DM basis) were 2.69 and 2.64 ± 0.030, neither of the differences being significant. Animal performance did not deteriorate with increasing period of effluent storage. No significant differences were found in carcase lean, back-fat thickness nor hardness of back-fat.A digestibility study was carried out on freshly collected effluent from another source. The level of dietary inclusion was equal to that in the previous experiments and the digestibility of dry matter was 0.831 and 0.819, and of nitrogen 0.822 and 0.827 for the control and effluent diets, respectively. A value of 11.4 MJ/kg dry matter was calculated by difference for the digestible energy of this effluent. In a further digestibility trial, digestible energy values of 14.6 and 14.2 MJ/kg dry matter were calculated by difference for effluents stored for 3.5 and 300 days, respectively.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effects of feeding pigs low protein (LP) diets for different lengths of time after weaning on indices of protein fermentation, the incidence of postweaning diarrhoea (PWD), growth performance, and total-tract apparent digestibility. Sixty weaner pigs weighing 6.1 +/- 0.13 kg (mean +/- SEM) were used in a completely randomised design having five treatments: (i) a high protein diet (HP, 243 g/kg CP) fed for 14 d after weaning (HP14); (ii) a low protein diet (LP, 173 g CP/kg) fed for 5 d after weaning (LP5); (iii) LP diet fed for 7 d after weaning (LP7); (iv) LP diet fed for 10 d after weaning (LP10), and (v) LP diet fed for 14 d after weaning (LP14). All diets were supplemented with lysine, methionine, tryptophan and threonine, with all LP diets additionally fortified with crystalline isoleucine and valine to conform to a proposed ideal amino acid (AA) pattern. A second-stage diet (215 g CP/kg) was fed to pigs at the conclusion of each treatment. None of the diets contained antimicrobial compounds. Feeding a LP diet, regardless of duration of feeding, decreased plasma urea nitrogen (p < 0.001) and faecal ammonia-nitrogen (p < 0.001) contents. Feeding a LP diet, irrespective of feeding duration, decreased the incidence of PWD at day 8 after weaning (p = 0.044), and pigs fed diets LP7, LP010 and LP14 had firmer faeces (p = 0.030, p = 0.047 and p = 0.007, respectively) between days 10 and 12 after weaning. Treatments LP5, LP7, LP10 and LP14 did not reduce (p > 0.05) growth performance up to 106 days after weaning compared to pigs fed the HP diet. Total-tract apparent digestibility of dry matter, energy and crude protein were similar (p > 0.05) between treatments. Our data suggest that feeding a LP diet, supplemented with AA to conform to an ideal AA pattern, for 7-10 days after weaning can reduce PWD in pigs fed antibiotic-free diets without compromising production.  相似文献

Pigs might be exposed to lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and deoxynivalenol (DON) at the same time, and both toxins are thought to interactively affect the intestinal barrier, the innate immune system, and the xenobiotics metabolism. Hence, we aimed at examining the single and combined effects of both toxins on nutrient digestibility and DON metabolism. For this purpose, barrows (26?±?4 kg) were fed restrictedly either a control diet (CON) or a diet contaminated with 3.1 mg DON/kg (DON) for 37 days. At day 37 of the experiment, pigs were infused intravenously for 60 min either with 100 μg DON/kg body weight (BW) (CON-DON), 7.5 μg LPS/kg BW (CON-LPS, DON-LPS) or a combination of both substances (CON-DON?+?LPS), or physiological saline (CON-CON, DON-CON). Blood samples were collected frequently until 3.25 h before the pigs were sacrificed for bile, liver, and kidney collection. The apparent digestibility of N-free extractives was significantly increased by 1 % when the DON-contaminated diet was fed. The total DON content in blood was significantly higher in endotoxemic pigs (34.8 ng/mL; CON-DON?+?LPS) when compared to the pigs infused with DON alone (18.8 ng/mL; CON-DON) while bile concentrations were not influenced by LPS. DON residue levels in liver and kidney closely reflected the treatment effects as described for blood. In contrast to DON infusion, the LPS challenge resulted in a significantly lower total DON concentration (13.2 vs. 7.5 ng/mL in groups DON-CON and DON-LPS, respectively) when the pigs were exposed to DON through the diet. The conjugation degree for DON in blood and bile was not influenced by treatments. In conclusion, endotoxemic pigs are characterized by higher DON residue levels in blood, liver, and kidney, probably by a compromised elimination.  相似文献

In two experiments of 3 × 3 Latin square with growing pigs, the effect was investigated of supplementation of 5 % or 10 % (2.5 % vs. 5 % DM) polyol mixture and 2.5 % or 5 % of xylitol on digestibility of diet, N-balance, blood clinical-chemical parameters and insulin level in serum. Apparent digestibility of crude protein was lower for the diet with 10 % polyol mixture compared to the control. Sugar alcohols were not found in faeces. Arabinitol, mannitol and rhamnitol were excreted in the urine 25–67 %. Little sorbitol and xylitol were found in urine on diets with polyol mixture 5–10 %. On xylitol diets the pigs did not excrete xylitol in urine. Plasma glucose rose in pigs fed xylitol. Blood total protein and albumin decreased in pigs fed polyol mixture. ALAT-activities were higher for xylitol diets than for the controls. Serum insulin tended to increase in pigs fed polyol mixture 10 % one hour after feeding, and in xylitol feeding two hours after feeding; these values were higher with increasing xylitol inclusion in diet.  相似文献

Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of pelleting on the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of energy and nutrients according to the dietary fibre (DF) level in growing pigs (experiment 1) and in adult sows (experiment 2). Four diets based on wheat, barley, maize and soybean meal and supplemented with increased contents of a mixture of wheat bran, maize bran, soybean hulls and sugar beet pulp (116, 192, 268 and 344 g NDF/kg dry matter (DM) in diets 1 to 4) were tested. In experiment 1, 32 growing pigs (62 kg average BW), in two replicates and according to a factorial design, were fed one of the four diets, either as mash or as pellets. The digestibility of energy, organic matter (OM) and all nutrients decreased with DF increasing for both feed forms; the reduction was about 1% for each 1% NDF increase in the diet (P < 0.001). Pelleting improved moderately the digestibility of energy and OM (+1.5% and +1.0%, respectively; P < 0.05) in connection with greater DF (+5%; P < 0.05) and fat digestibility (+25%). Thus, pelleting improved the digestible energy content of diets on average by 0.3 MJ/kg of feed DM (P < 0.01). In experiment 2, four adult dry sows (235 kg average BW) were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design and fed the four diets used in experiment 1 as pellets. The digestibility of energy, OM and macronutrients also decreased with DF increase (P < 0.001; -0.4% per 1% increase of dietary NDF for energy) while the digestibility of DF (i.e. crude fibre (CF) or ADF) increased (P < 0.001) or remained at a high level. In conclusion, increasing DF in diets decreases the digestibility of nutrients and energy in pigs and in sows. Although positive, the pelleting impact is minor on the energy and nutrients digestibility of fibre-rich diets in growing pigs, even in high-DF diets.  相似文献

Providing pigs a diet that matches their nutrient requirements involves optimizing the diet based on the nutrient digestibility values of the considered feed ingredients. Feeding the same quantity of a diet to pigs with similar BW but with different requirements, however, can result in a different average daily gain (ADG) and backfat thickness (BF) between pigs. Digestibility may contribute to this variation in efficiency. We investigated variation in feed efficiency traits in grower-finisher pigs associated with variation in faecal digestibility values, independent of feed intake at the time of measuring faecal digestibility. Considered traits were ADG, average daily feed intake (ADFI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), BF and residual feed intake (RFI). Feed intake, BW, and BF data of one hundred and sixty three-way crossbreed grower-finisher pigs (eighty female and eighty male) were collected during two phases, from day 0 of the experiment (mean BW 23 kg) till day 56 (mean BW 70 kg) and from day 56 to slaughter (mean BW 121 kg). Pigs were either fed a diet based on corn/soybean meal or a more fibrous diet based on wheat/barley/by-products, with titanium dioxide as indigestible marker. Faecal samples of one hundred and five pigs were collected on the day before slaughter and used to determine apparent faecal digestibility of DM, ash, organic matter (OM), CP, crude fat (CFat), crude fibre (CF), and to calculate the digestibility of nonstarch polysaccharides (NSPs) and energy (E). The effects of diet, sex and covariate feed intake at sampling (FIs) on faecal digestibility values were estimated and were significant for all except for CFat. Faecal digestibility values of each individual pig determined at the day before slaughter, corrected for diet, sex and FIs, were used to estimate their association with ADG, ADFI, FCR, BF, and RFI. In the first phase, a one percent unit increase in faecal digestibility of DM, ash, OM, E, CP, CFat, CF, NSP, and Ash individually was related to 0.01–0.03 unit reduction in FCR and 6–23 g/day reduction in RFI. A unit increase in CP digestibility was related to 0.1 mm increase in BF and 10 g/day increase in ADG. In the second phase, a one percent unit increase in faecal digestibility of DM, CP and Ash was related to a decrease of 16–20 g/day in RFI. In conclusion, the relationship between variation in feed efficiency traits and faecal digestibility values is different across the developmental stages of a pig.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate if adjustments in diet formulations either based on total analysed amino acids or standardized ileal digestible (SID) amino acids may be used to eliminate negative effects of including heat-damaged soybean meal (SBM) or heat-damaged corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) in diets fed to weanling pigs. In Experiment 1, four corn–SBM diets were formulated. Diet 1 contained non-autoclaved SBM (315 g/kg), and this diet was formulated on the basis of analysed amino acid concentrations and using SID values from the AminoDat® 4.0 database. Diet 2 was similar to Diet 1 in terms of ingredient composition, except that the non-autoclaved SBM was replaced by autoclaved SBM at 1 : 1 (weight basis). Diet 3 was formulated using autoclaved SBM and amino acid inclusions in the diet were adjusted on the basis of analysed total amino acid concentrations in the autoclaved SBM and published SID values for non-autoclaved SBM (AminoDat® 4.0). Diet 4 also contained autoclaved SBM, but the formulation of this diet was adjusted on the basis of analysed amino acids in the autoclaved SBM and SID values that were adjusted according to the degree of heat damage in this source of SBM. Pigs (160; initial BW: 10.4 kg) were allotted to the four treatments with eight replicate pens per treatment in a randomized complete block design. Diets were fed to pigs for 21 days. The gain to feed ratio (G : F) was greater (P<0.05) for pigs fed Diet 1 compared with pigs fed the other diets and pigs fed Diet 4 had greater (P<0.05) G : F than pigs fed Diet 2. In Experiment 2, 144 pigs (initial BW: 9.9 kg) were allotted to four diets with eight replicate pens per diet. The four diets contained corn, SBM (85 g/kg) and DDGS (220 g/kg), and were formulated using the concepts described for Experiment 1, except that heat-damaged DDGS, but not heat-damaged SBM, was used in the diets. Pigs fed Diet 1 had greater (P<0.05) G : F than pigs fed Diet 2, but no differences were observed for G : F among pigs fed diets containing autoclaved DDGS. Results demonstrate that the negative effects of heat damage of SBM or DDGS may be ameliorated if the reduced concentration and digestibility of amino acids in heat-damaged SBM or DDGS is taken into account in diet formulation. Further research is needed to improve the prediction of the ileal digestibility of amino acids in heat-processed ingredients used in practical diet formulations.  相似文献

Seventy-two pigs, initially weighing 4–5 kg, were fed on wheat-based diets supplemented with soya bean meal and/or meat meal in two experiments each of 4 weeks' duration.In the first experiment, 0, 25, 50 or 100% replacement of soya bean meal protein supplement with meat meal was associated with a linear decrease in weight gains (341-280 g/d), a linear increase in feed conversion ratios (1.64–2.35) and a linear decrease in apparent digestibility of dry matter (80.1–73.4%). There was no change in the apparent digestibility of nitrogen.In the second experiment, bone meal was added to provide 0.80, 1.55 and 3.05% calcium in diets in which the protein supplements were either soya bean meal or meat meal. The addition of bone meal to the diets containing soya bean meal did not affect the performance of the pigs, but it caused a linear decrease in the apparent digestibility of dry matter, nitrogen and calcium. The addition of bone meal to the diet containing meat meal reduced the feed intakes of the pigs from 617 to 516 g/d and the weight gains from 414 to 324 g/d.Weight gains of pigs were similar when their diets contained soya bean meal or meat meal as the protein supplement in the second experiment when the calcium content of the diets was 0.8%. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of diet composition on phytate (InsP6) degradation in dairy cows. In Experiment 1, four diets that differed in the amount and source of phosphorus (P) were fed to 24 lactating cows in a 4 × 4 Latin Square design. The control diet (Diet C) contained 4.18 g P/kg dry matter (DM). Diet MP contained additional mineral P (5.11 g P/kg DM), Diet RS contained rapeseed and rapeseed meal as organic P sources (5.26 g P/kg DM) and Diet RSM contained rapeseed meal and rapeseed oil (5.04 g P/kg DM). Total P (tP) and InsP6 excretion in faeces were measured. In Experiment 2, we used a rumen simulation technique (Rusitec) to estimate ruminal disappearance of tP and InsP6 from Diets C, MP and RSM. In Experiment 1, tP concentration in faeces increased with tP intake and was highest for Diets RS and RSM. The source of supplemented P had no influence on tP digestibility, but tP digestibility was reduced for Diets MP, RS and RSM in comparison to that for Diet C. InsP6 disappearance decreased in Diet MP (85.0%) and increased in Diets RS (92.7%) and RSM (94.0%) compared to that in Diet C (90.0%). In Experiment 2, P source influenced ruminal tP disappearance (Diet MP, 78.6%; Diet RSM, 75.3%). InsP6 disappearance for Diet C (98.1%) was higher than that for Diets MP (95.6%) and RSM (94.9%). The results confirmed the high potential of ruminants to degrade InsP6, but differences in diet composition influenced InsP6 disappearance. Further studies of the site of InsP6 degradation are required to understand the relevance of InsP6 degradation for the absorption of P.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding schedule on dry matter (DM), gross energy (GE), crude protein (CP), and amino acid (AA) digestibility by growing pigs. Six growing castrates (initial body weight: 40.5 ± 2.25 kg) were equipped with a T-cannula in the distal ileum and allotted to a repeated 3 × 3 Latin square design with three animals and three periods in each square. A maize–soybean meal based diet (181 g CP/kg) was formulated and fed to the pigs in three different feeding schedules; i.e., one meal per day, two meals per day, or free access to feed. Pigs fed one or two meals per day were allotted a daily amount of feed equivalent to three times the maintenance energy requirement. Fecal and ileal samples were collected from all pigs in each period. The coefficients of ileal apparent digestibility (CIAD) for DM, GE, CP, and AA were calculated as were the coefficients of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) of DM and GE. Results of the experiment showed that there were no differences in the CIAD for DM, GE, or for any of the AA among the three feeding schedules. In contrast, pigs given free access to the diet had lower (P<0.002) CTTAD for DM and GE compared with pigs fed a restricted amount of feed either once or twice daily. Therefore, the concentration of digestible energy in the diet was lower if calculated from pigs given free access to the diet compared with pigs fed the diet once or twice daily (14.38 MJ/kg versus 14.83 MJ/kg and 15.13 MJ/kg). It is concluded that the feeding schedule does not influence the CIAD for DM, GE, CP, or AA by pigs. Therefore, any of the three feeding schedules that were used in the current experiment may be used in experiments aimed at measuring CIAD in pigs. However, if the CTTAD of DM and GE are measured, it is recommended that pigs are given free access to feed.  相似文献

The effects of feeding different levels of wilted cassava foliage (Manihot esculenta, Crantz) on growth and diet digestibility were studied using local male growing goats with an average body weight of 14.5 kg. Thirty-two animals were randomly allocated to four groups of eight animals in a growth experiment, and four animals were assigned to a 4 × 4 Latin Square design to study digestibility. The four diets in both the growth and the digestibility studies were Gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus) as a sole diet offered ad libitum (control) or supplemented with wilted cassava foliage (WCF) at 20%, 30% and 40% of an expected daily DM intake of 3% of BW. Dry matter (DM) intake was significantly lower in the control group and increased with the level of WCF in the diet, while the DM intake of Gamba grass was not significantly changed. Total DM intake and DM intakes from Gamba grass were 472, 546, 584 and 616 g/d and 472, 457, 457 and 470 g/d for the control and treatments with 20%, 30% and 40% of WCF in the diet, respectively. The inclusion of WCF in the diet increased the apparent digestibility of DM, organic matter, N, Neutral detergent Fibre and Acid Detergent Fibre, and resulted in a higher N-retention. The average daily gains of animals fed diets with WCF were significantly higher than in the control group. The highest gain was recorded in goats with 40% of WCF in the diet (55.0 g/d) and lowest for the control (28.9 g/d). In conclusion, supplementing a basal diet of Gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus) with WCF improved DM intake, digestibility, N-retention and weight gain. The inclusion level of WCF in the diet can be up to 30%–40% of diet DM (21%–24% of total DM intake).  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different inclusion levels of semi-purified glycerine in the diet of feedlot lambs on feeding behaviour, nutrient intake and digestibility, carcass characteristics, meat quality and in vitro degradability. Thirty-two Dorper × (Texel × Suffolk) crossbred intact male lambs (22.2 ± 5.51 kg) were fed glycerine (90% purity) at 0, 120, 240 or 360 g/kg dry matter (DM) in a total mixed ration with a roughage to concentrate ratio of 40:60 for 84 d. In vitro degradability was not affected by glycerine supplementation. Feeding behaviour and digestibility of DM, crude protein and fibre and production performance were similar among treatments. Ether extract digestibility was lower at the highest inclusion level. Glycerine level had no effect on ruminal pH, carcass characteristics and meat quality, except for subcutaneous fat thickness which was lower for lambs fed glycerine at 240 and 360 g/kg DM. Scores for unpleasant taste, unpleasant odour, succulence and softness of meat were not affected by dietary glycerine level. These data suggest that there are no adverse effects on carcass quality and performance when semi-purified glycerine is provided up to 360 g/kg DM in the diet of growing lambs fed a forage to concentrate ratio of 40:60.  相似文献

A grower finisher performance trial with forty-eight pigs was designed to compare the growth performance of pigs fed diets containing either genetically modified (GM) Bt-maize (NX6262) or its parental maize (Prelude) line. During the experiment, the pigs were fed with a grower and a finisher diet both containing 70% maize investigated in a previously study which showed that they contained similar ME values and digestibility of crude nutrients. The pigs with an initial live weight of 23.9 ± 3.0kg were allotted to single boxes. During a 91 days growing period the pigs of both groups recorded equal performance in daily weight gain ( j W) 815 ± 93 vs. 804 ± 64g/d depending on equal amounts of feed intake 1.95 ± 0.15 vs . 1.94 ± 0.15kg/d (parental vs. transgenic). The results confirm equal performance among growing-finishing pigs fed parental or genetically modified maize containing diets. For slaughtering the pigs were divided into 4 groups with a different duration of the finishing period. After slaughtering the carcass characteristic were registered.  相似文献

In organic pig production systems, one of the main challenges is to meet the demand for resources rich in protein. Among the resources available, temperate green plants, such as forage legumes, are potential sources of energy and protein. The aim of the study was to determine the nutritional value of silages (S) from the whole plant of lucerne (L) and red clover (R) and protein pastes (PPs) obtained from L and R leaves. In a first trial, 30 pigs were used in a factorial design to determine the total tract digestibility (TTD) of dietary nutrients and energy in five dietary treatments. The control group was fed a control diet (C1). The lucerne silage (LS) and red clover silage (RS) groups were fed a 78%:22% mixture (on a DM basis) of the C1 diet and LS or RS. The lucerne protein paste (LPP) and the red clover protein paste (RPP) groups were fed an 81%:19% mixture (on a DM basis) of the C1 diet and LPP or RPP. In the second trial, five pigs were used in a 5 × 5 Latin square design to evaluate the standardised ileal digestibility (SID) of amino acids (AAs) in the four legume products. The control diet (C2) was formulated with casein as the sole protein source. The LS and RS groups were fed an 85%:15% mixture (on a DM basis) of the C2 diet and LS or RS. The LPP and RPP groups were fed an 80%:20% mixture (on a DM basis) of the C2 diet and LPP or RPP. Regardless of the plant species, silages obtained from L and R leaves contained less AA and more fibre than protein pastes. While the fresh forages contained the same percentage of protein N in total N (63.6%), lucerne lost more protein N during ensiling than red clover (?75.5 vs ?33.8%). The calculated TTD coefficient of energy was higher in silages than in protein pastes and lower in R than in L products (72.8, 71.5, 67.7, and 61.3 for LS, RS, LPP and RPP, respectively). The SID of total essential AA was higher in LPP than in RPP (87.2 vs 79.2%) whereas it was lower in LS than in RS (33.2 vs 56.8%). The lower SID values in silages were explained by the protein degradation during the ensiling process and a high proportion of AA linked to the NDF fraction. The results of the present study show that protein pastes obtained from lucerne and red clover are valuable protein sources for pig. In contrast, legume silages have to be considered as an energy source rather than a protein source.  相似文献

Comminuted cabbage (Variety Drumhead) was used in diets for growing pigs and contained in dry matter (DM), 18 MJ/kg, 23% crude protein, 7.9% true protein, 0.76% total lysine, 0.47% methionine + cystine, 14.2% acid detergent fibre and 13.2% ash.Ninety pigs were raised from an initial live weight of 57 kg either on a diet containing 80.5% barley and 18% soya bean meal on a DM basis, or on diets in which cabbage DM replaced either 15 or 30% of the DM from this mixture. The use of cabbage in the diet at these inclusion levels reduced the rate of carcass-weight gain by 12.2 and 18.5%, respectively, compared with that of the control animals.The potential high yield of nutrients/ha from cabbage, factors which may be affecting the utilization of these nutrients by pigs and the variable chemical composition of this brassica crop, are discussed.  相似文献

Non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) present in wheat and barley can act as anti-nutrients leading to an increase in digesta viscosity and a reduction in nutrient digestibility. Xylanase, an NSP-degrading enzyme, has been shown to increase nutrient digestibility in pigs. The objectives of this study were: (1) to identify the optimum inclusion level of xylanase in grower pig diets by measuring the effect of increasing enzyme levels on growth performance, the concentration of volatile fatty acids (VFA) and peptide YY concentration in portal and peripheral blood of grower pigs and (2) to increase our understanding of the interrelationships between xylanase inclusion, VFA production and peptide YY secretion. A total of 512 grower pigs ((Large White×Landrace)×MAXGRO) were allocated to pens creating 32 replicates of four pigs per pen per treatment. Pigs were allocated to trial weighing 14.2±0.31 kg and remained on trial until ~41.5±3.31 kg. The experiment was a dose response design with four inclusion levels (0, 8000, 16 000 or 32 000 BXU/kg) of xylanase (Econase XT). Diets were cereal-based wheat, barley mix formulated to meet or exceed the nutrient requirements of grower pigs. Body weight and feed intake were recorded to calculate growth performance. Pen faecal samples were collected to estimate DM, organic matter (OM) and crude fibre (CF) apparent total-tract digestibility. At the end of the trial 16 pigs per treatment were euthanised by schedule 1 procedures. Peripheral and portal blood samples were collected for peptide YY and VFA analysis. The addition of xylanase to the diet had no effect on growth performance, DM, OM or CF total-tract digestibility; however, xylanase tended to have a quadratic effect on ileum pH with higher pH values recorded for pigs fed a diet supplemented with 8000 and 16 000 BXU/kg xylanase (P<0.1). Xylanase had no effect on peptide YY levels or VFA concentration. Total VFA concentration was higher in portal compared with peripheral blood (P<0.05). In conclusion, the addition of xylanase had no effect on grower pig performance, nutrient digestibility, VFA concentration or peptide YY concentration when fed up to 32 000 BXU/kg over a 35-day period. Pig performance was good for all treatments throughout the trial suggesting that diet quality was sufficient thus there were no beneficial effects of adding xylanase.  相似文献

Nutritional values of sugarcane products in local Caribbean growing pigs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A total of 24 castrated male Creole were used for digestibility studies on three sugarcane (SC) products: final molasses, SC juice and ground SC. Digestibility of macronutrients were determined in three consecutive experimental trials between 35 and 60 kg BW. The first trial measured the effect of a constant rate of incorporation of those SC products in a control diet (23% on a dry matter (DM) basis) on digestibility of energy and nutrients. The second and the third trials were designed to determine the effects of increasing rates of inclusion of SC juice and ground SC in the control diet on the digestibility of nutrients and energy. The DM content of molasses, SC juice and ground SC were 74.3%, 19.3% and 25.8%, respectively. Free sugar contents were 73.8%, 81.6% and 51.5% of DM for molasses, SC juice and ground SC, respectively. In contrast with molasses and SC juice, NDF content of ground SC was very high (40.3% DM). Energy digestibility coefficients (DC) were 99.0% and 83.6% for SC juice and molasses, respectively. For ground SC, amounts and composition of intakes differed from feed allowance as a consequence of chewing-then-spitting out most of the fibrous contents of ground SC. Expressed as a percentage of energy intake and energy allowance, DC of energy for ground SC were 68.6% and 31.9%, respectively. On an intake basis, digestible energy (DE) and metabolisable energy (ME) values were higher for SC juice (17.3 and 17.2 MJ/kg DM, respectively) than for molasses (13.1 and 12.6 MJ/kg DM, respectively) or ground SC (12.3 and 11.8 MJ/kg DM, respectively). On an allowance basis, the corresponding values for ground SC were only 5.7 and 5.6 MJ/kg DM, respectively. The gradual inclusion rate of SC juice in the diet up to 66% resulted in a linear increase of the DC of the diet organic matter and energy (P < 0.001) by 0.10% per 1% in SC juice DM. On the other hand, the partial substitution of the control diet by ground SC up to 74% resulted in a linear (P < 0.05) reduction of digestibility of nutrients and energy. Each 1% increase of ground SC incorporation rate resulted in a 0.13% and 0.61% linear decrease of DC of the energy, expressed as a percentage of energy intake or energy allowance, respectively. In conclusion, our study provides updated energy values of SC products usable as energy sources for feeding pigs.  相似文献

The present work was intended to analyse the chemical composition and oxidative stability of the muscle biceps femoris and adipose tissues from Iberian pigs fed different finishing diets: free-range feeding on grass and acorns in a 'Montanera' traditional system (MON), fed in confinement with a mixed diet containing high-oleic sunflower oil (115 g/kg of diet) and supplemented with 250 mg/kg α-tocopherol (HOVE), and fed in confinement with a tocopherol-non-supplemented control mixed diet (CON). Muscles from MON pigs contained significantly (P < 0.05) higher amounts of intramuscular fat than those from HOVE and CON pigs. Muscles from MON and HOVE pigs had significantly higher levels of α-tocopherol than muscles from CON pigs whereas free-range feeding provided significantly higher levels of γ-tocopherol to muscles from MON pigs than the experimental diets did to CON and HOVE pigs. Adipose tissues from MON and HOVE pigs contained significantly lower proportions of saturated fatty acids and significantly higher levels of oleic acid and monounsaturated fatty acids than those from CON pigs. Tissues from MON pigs contained significantly smaller levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids than those from CON and HOVE pigs. To a higher extent, feeding background affected the fatty acid composition of polar lipids from the muscle biceps femoris than that of neutral lipids. Tissues from MON pigs contained significantly smaller ω-6/ω-3 values than those from pigs fed mixed diets. Compared to tissues from CON pigs, those from MON and HOVE pigs exhibited a higher oxidative stability as a likely result of a most favourable fatty acid composition and the presence of higher tocopherol levels.  相似文献

Oat grains from a single source were ground in a hammer mill, either with no screen present (coarse) or through 1.56 or 4.68-mm screens, to produce three samples with different particle size distributions. At inclusion levels of 850 g kg?1 the three samples were used as the bases of three otherwise identical diets. Half of each diet was steam pelleted to give pellets of 7-mm diameter and the other half retained as a meal form. Factorially designed metabolism experiments using 30 pigs of 20 kg initial live weight and a growth experiment using 72 individually fed pigs of 25 kg initial live weight were made.Pelleting or particle size of the diet had no significant effect on (a) apparent digestibility of dry matter (DM), modified acid detergent fibre and gross energy (b) digestible (DE) and metabolisable energy (ME) contents (the DE contents of the meal and pelleted diets were 12.81 and 13.03 MJ kg?1 DM, respectively) and (c) nitrogen retention. Apparent digestibility of the ether-extractable fraction was significantly poorer in meals (cf. pellets) and in the diets based on coarse grains compared with those based on the two finer-ground samples. Also, apparent digestibility of nitrogen was significantly poorer in the diets based on the coarse grains (0.803) compared with that based on the 1.56-mm ground grain (0.832). Growth and efficiency of feed conversion were significantly improved by pelleting the coarse grain diet, and the meal diet based on the coarse grain gave significantly inferior results compared with those from the two other meal diets.  相似文献
