Isoproteic diets (19% CP) containing 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75% of citrus pulp were supplied ad libitum to 15 male New Zealand rabbits aged 6 weeks. In another experiment, pure citrus pulp (6.5% CP) was also offered.Food intake decreased when the diet contained 45% or more citrus pulp. Digestibility of DM, OM and fibre tended to increase as the inclusion of citrus pulp increased. Digestibility of OM ranged from 67 to 89% on rations containing up to 45 and 100% citrus pulp, respectively. Digestibility of fibre increased from 16.7 to 58.7 and 83.4% on the rations containing from 0 to 75 and 100% citrus pulp.Between 0 and 75% citrus pulp, digestibility and retention of N were not altered significantly, the respective values being approximately 75 and 45%. Balance decreased from 1.9 g N/d on the diet without pulp to 1.17 on the diet with 75% pulp, and was negative for 100% pulp. The fattening of 73 rabbit litters from weaning to 2 kg live weight was studied. Diets including 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75% citrus pulp were supplied ad libitum. Daily gain, food intake and feed efficiency values were about 35 g/d, 90 g DM/day and 2.5 for all diets up to 45% citrus pulp, but were notably worse with 60 and 75% citrus pulp. The last two diets produced a very high mortality (18.2 and 35%, respectively). Differences due to diet were significantly different (P < 0.01), but those due to sex were not.  相似文献

Twenty-one multiparous dairy cows were fed concentrates containing three levels (119, 154 and 191g/kg DM) of crude protein (CP) during the first ten weeks of lactation. Part of the grain and molassed sugar beat pulp was substituted with 0% (RSM0), 15% (RSM15) or 30% (RSM30) rapeseed meal. Wilted grass silage was fed ad libitum after calving. The average response between RSM0 and RSM15 was +1.66kg milk/d per percentage unit change in concentrate CP content. No further response occurred between RSM15 and RSM30. The positive effect of RSM inclusion was seen throughout the experimental period and was associated with increased plasma non esterified fatty acids (NEFA) and decreased plasma insulin concentration one week after calving, and higher efficiency of metabolisable energy utilisation for milk production. Digestibility of the diet remained unaffected. Milk and plasma urea tended to increase with RSM30 indicating excessive supply of rumen degradable protein. Because of the limited potential of cows to compensate for a deficit in feed protein supply by mobilising tissue protein, a substantial milk yield response can be achieved with a moderate level of protein supplementation during early lactation.  相似文献

Awassi is a multi-purpose sheep breed. Awassi lambs being finished are usually offered an 18% crude protein (CP) diet. The growth rate of Awassi lambs is lower than other meat breeds. Therefore, this high content of dietary CP is questionable. The objective of this study was to estimate the optimum CP level for finishing Awassi lambs. Fifty male Awassi lambs (23.0±1.2 kg) were fed five high concentrate isocaloric diets (10 lambs per diet) that contained 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18% CP in a totally mixed diets for 9 weeks using a completely randomized design. Lambs were fed twice daily, and feed offered and feed refusals recorded for each feeding. Individual lamb intakes were calculated using daily feed offered and feed refused averaged over the interval of the experiment. Digestibility estimates were measured by total fecal collection. Lambs fed diets that contained 10, 12, and 14% CP gained less weight than those fed the 16 and 18% CP diets (P<0.05). Dry matter and CP intakes increased (P<0.05) with increasing levels of dietary CP. No difference (P>0.10) was observed in feed-to-gain ratio between diets except for the diet that contained 10% CP (P<0.05) which had a lower ratio. Organic matter and CP digestibility were lowest in lambs fed the 10% CP diet. Results suggest that the optimum CP concentration is 16% and that any increase above this level will not result in any improvement in production.  相似文献

Dairy cows are commonly fed energy-dense diets with high proportions of concentrate feedstuffs to meet the increased energy needs of early lactation. However, feeding large amounts of concentrates may cause rumen acidosis and impact cow health. The hypothesis tested was that the energy supply and metabolic health of early-lactation Simmental cows can be maintained when high-quality hay rich in water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC) and crude protein (CP) is fed, despite the proportion of concentrates in the diet being reduced or even excluded. Twenty-four Simmental cows were allocated to one of four feeding groups beginning 10 d before the expected calving date, until 28 d thereafter. The feeding groups were 60CH (60% conventional fibre-rich hay plus 40% concentrate feed), 60HQH (60% high-quality hay plus 40% concentrate feed), 75HQH (75% high-quality hay plus 25% concentrate feed) and 100HQH (100% high-quality hay). The fibre-rich hay and high-quality hay differed in WSC content (110 g vs. 198 g of dry matter (DM)), neutral detergent fibre (646 g vs. 423 g of DM) and CP (65 g vs. 223 g of DM). Individual feed intake and milk production were monitored daily, and blood samples were collected weekly. Dry matter intake (DMI) and milk yield increased post partum, but 4 weeks post partum, the DMI of cows fed 100HQH only reached a daily mean DMI of 18.6 kg, whereas the DMI of the other groups averaged 21.9 kg (p < 0.046). The negative energy balance was less pronounced in cows fed 75HQH since they showed similar milk yields to the cows fed 60CH and 100HQH, but their energy intake was higher. Concentrations of milk components were similar across rations 60CH, 60HQH and 75HQH, as were most of blood parameters. Cows fed 100HQH responded to the energy deficit post partum with a higher ratio of non-esterified fatty acids to cholesterol and a higher concentration of ß-hydroxybutyrate (significant in comparison to cows fed 75HQH, p < 0.05). In conclusion, feeding high-quality hay with a WSC content of 20% in DM has the potential to decrease the proportion of concentrates in dairy cow feeding in early lactation, but cannot fully replace their supplementation due to a limited rumen capacity for forage intake.  相似文献

Wet corn gluten feed (WCGF) is a high moisture feed containing rapidly digestible, non-forage fiber and protein. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of substituting WCGF and corn stover for alfalfa hay in total mixed ration (TMR) silage on lactation performance and nitrogen balance in dairy cows. Nine multiparous Holstein dairy cows (BW = 532 ± 28.9 kg and day in milk = 136 ± 5.6 d; mean ± SD) were used in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design with 21-d periods (14 d of diet adaption and 7 d of sample collection). Groups were balanced for parity, day in milk, and milk production and consumed one of three treatment diets during each period. The treatment diets were fed as TMR and contained similar concentrate mixtures and corn silage but different proportions of roughage and WCGF. The three treatments were: (1) 0% WCGF, 0% corn stover, and 22.1% alfalfa hay (0% WCGF); (2) 6.9% WCGF, 3.4% corn stover, and 11.8% alfalfa hay (7% WCGF); and (3) 13.3% WCGF, 4.9% corn stover, and 3.9% alfalfa hay (13.3% WCGF). Compared to the 0% WCGF diet, the cows fed the 7% and 13.3% WCGF diets had a higher milk yield and concentration of milk fat, protein, lactose, and total solids. Effective degradability of DM was higher in the cows fed the 7% and 13.3% WCGF diets than it was with the 0% WCGF diet. Cows fed the 13.3% WCGF had a higher CP effective degradability and a lower rumen undegraded protein than cows fed the 0% WCGF diet. The concentration of ruminal volatile fatty acids and ammonia-N was higher in cows fed the 7% and 13.3% WCGF diets than cows fed the 0% WCGF diet. The fecal N was lower in cows fed the 7% and 13.3% WCGF diets than it was in cows fed the 0% WCGF diet. Milk N secretion and milk N as a percent of N intake were higher in cows fed the 13.3% WCGF diet than cows fed the 0% and 7% WCGF diets. In conclusion, it appears that feeding a TMR silage containing WCGF and corn stover in combination, replacing a portion of alfalfa hay, may improve lactation performance and nitrogen utilization for lactating dairy cows.  相似文献

In an experiment with 40 growing Florina (Pelagonia) lambs, effects of replacing barley grain, sugar beet pulp, and alfalfa meal with fermented olive wastes (FOW) and soybean meal on productivity and meat composition was determined. In the 45-day experiment, lambs were allocated to one of the four treatments of 10 lambs (5 male and 5 female) each. Male and female lambs had an initial body weight (BW) of 19.7 ± 0.8 and 19.5 ± 0.8 kg, respectively, and were individually fed a concentrate mixture ad libitum and alfalfa hay (0.18 kg/lamb/day, dry matter (DM) basis). The FOW was added to the concentrate mixtures at inclusion levels (as fed basis) of 0, 50, 100, and 150 kg/t for treatments FOW0, FOW50, FOW100, and FOW150, respectively. Male lambs grew faster (P<0.01) than female lambs, but no differences (P>0.05) occurred among FOW treatments in final BW, BW gain, DM intake, or feed conversion ratio. Males had heavier (P<0.01) fasted BW and cold carcass weight, and lower (P=0.04) carcass yield than females, but no differences in carcass components among treatments were detected. FOW can be incorporated into concentrates for growing lambs, at levels up to 150 kg/t, with no adverse effects on performance or carcass characteristics.  相似文献

The aim of this experiment was to study the effect of total replacement of oat hay by rosemary distillation residues (RR) on growth, carcass characteristics and meat quality of Barbarine lambs. A total of 21 lambs were divided into three groups. The control group (C) was offered 600 g of oat hay; the RR87 and RR60 groups received 600 g of pellets containing 87% and 60% of RR, respectively. The CP content was 9% and 14% for RR87 and RR60, respectively. All animals were supplemented by 600 g of concentrate. After 77 days of fattening, lambs were slaughtered. The DM and CP intakes were significantly increased with RR diets. The average daily gain was higher (P<0.001), while the feed conversion rate was lower for RR60 and RR87 than C group. The dressing percentage was similar for all groups. The tissular (muscle, fat and bone) and the regional (leg, shoulder, etc.) carcass composition did not differ among groups. The bony organs and gut weights were similar among groups, while functional ones (skin, liver, kidney and testicles) were significantly heavier for both RR groups than control. The ultimate pH, water cooking loss and color variables were similar among groups and the chemical composition (protein, fat, myoglobin, collagen and iron) did not differ also among groups. These results revealed the opportunity of RR use in fattening lambs without adverse effects on carcass and meat characteristics. Moreover, 9% CP in RR pellets are enough given the same growth performance recorded as that of RR with 14% CP.  相似文献

Digestibility trials with 8 lots of pelleted dried sugar beet pulp, carried out with wethers, demonstrated that dried sugar beet pulp is a highly digestible energy source for ruminants. From the digestion coefficients obtained, and a value number of 95, the starch equivalent of the dry matter of dried sugar beet pulp was calculated to be 73.3, while the net energy expressed in EFr was 619 EFr per kg dry matter. This is about 90% of the net energy content of barley containing 4% crude fibre in the dry matter.Beef production trials were carried out with 702 young bulls fed on complete dry rations based on dried sugar beet pulp. Two categories of animals were used: 322 baby-beef bulls (intensive system) slaughtered at 13 months of age at an average live-weight of 480 kg; and 380 young bulls coming from pasture (semi-intensive system) at about 250 kg live-weight, and fattened indoors up to at least 550 kg live-weight. With each category, three different rations have been studied. These contained respectively, 50, 60 or 70% pelleted dried sugar beet pulp; the remainder of the rations consisted of respectively 50, 40 or 30% concentrates. The diets were fed ad libitum; straw and water were always available. The three complete dry rations proved to be equally successful for intensive beef production. The carcass quality was good for all animals. The average daily gain obtained with the baby-beef bulls for the three rations respectively was 1 207 g, 1 274 g and 1 172 g; for the second category of bulls the mean growth rates were generally slightly higher: 1 281 g, 1 309 g and 1 357 g.The feed efficiency was higher with the younger animals: the baby-beef bulls (live-weight interval: 150–480 kg) consumed about 2.5 kg protein supplement and 3.5 kg dried sugar beet pulp per kg live-weight gain; while the intake per kg live-weight gain with the bulls of the second category (live-weight interval: 250–560 kg) amounted approximately to 2.75 kg protein supplement and 4 kg dried sugar beet pulp. Within each category of bulls, the feed cost per kg live-weight gain decreased with increasing amounts of dried sugar beet pulp in the rations.  相似文献

The growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality measurements were evaluated on broiler chicks fed different dietary levels of whole inedible dates (WID). WID used in this study were consisted of date fruits (~850 g/kg) and date pits (~150 g/kg). Three hundred unsexed Lohman broiler chicks were randomly and equally distributed into six groups. Each was formed of 50 chicks (five replicates, 10 chicks per replicate), and was assigned to a dietary treatment. Six dietary treatments of WID (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 g/kg feed) were included in the formation of isocaloric (metabolizable energy of ~3060 kcal/kg feed) and isonitrogenous (CP of ~192 g/kg feed) broiler rations. The treated rations were fed to the group chicks between 15 and 42 days of age (the experimental period). A straight-run design was considered. At 42 days of age, five males from each treatment were randomly chosen and slaughtered to determine carcass characteristics, internal organs and meat quality measurements. Digestibility of nutrients was measured at the end of the experimental period using five caged-individual males per treatment. The inclusion of broiler rations on WID for up to 150 g/kg feed, over the experimental period, did not significantly influence body weight gain (1452 to 1521 g/chick), feed intake (3268 to 3621 g/chick), feed conversion ratio (2.26 to 2.36 kg/kg) and dressed carcass (63.4% to 67.3%). In addition, levels of WID for up to 150 g/kg feed did not significantly influence the digestibility of nutrients and meat quality measurements. Such results suggest the possible inclusion of broiler rations on WID for up to 150 g/kg feed, during the period of 15 to 42 days of age without adverse effects on growth performance and meat quality.  相似文献

Forty-eight male lambs were used to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation of mannanoligosaccharide (MOS) with or without parenteral Escherichia coli injection on their growth performance, feed conversion efficiency, blood metabolites, total serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels and antibody response. Lambs were randomly assigned to four groups of 12 animals each. In groups C (control) and CE (E. coli challenged), animals were fed commercial concentrate pellets and hay (50:50), and in groups M (MOS) and ME (MOS + E. coli challenged), animals were fed commercial concentrate pellets including MOS at 0.2% and hay (50:50). At day 15 and 30, animals in groups CE and ME were injected subcutaneously with 1 ml of phosphate buffered saline (PBS) suspension containing 10(6) cfu of heat inactivated non-toxigenic E. coli O157:H7, while animals in C and M groups were injected subcutaneously with 1 ml of PBS. The experimental period was 45 days. Data indicated that body weight of lambs at the end of the study were statistically non-significant among the groups. Blood metabolites, i.e. total protein, albumin, calcium and phosphorus concentrations were not affected significantly by MOS supplementation. However, administration E. coli lowered (p < 0.05) total protein, albumin and calcium concentrations in the serum on day 30. The IgG level was not different between groups. However, on day 45, the total IgG level was found to be higher (p < 0.05) in lambs that had received MOS and E. coli than in other groups. Application of MOS did not have any effect on the antibody response to E. coli as OD values.  相似文献

Cellulose residue (cellufiber) from an ammonium base acid sulphite paper process was accepted by dairy heifers to the extent of 40% of the dry matter of an all-roughage ration when mixed with maize (Zea mays) silage at time of feeding. No adverse physiological effects were observed during digestion trials lasting 80 days in which cattle were given successively diets containing 10, 20, 30 or 40% of the ration dry matter as cellufiber. Apparent digestibility of crude protein decreased and digestibility of crude fibre and acid detergent fibre increased as the cellufiber level in the ration increased. Digestibility coefficients of dry matter, nitrogen-free extract and gross energy were unaffected.Uniformity of values for total digestible nutrients, digestible energy and metabolizable energy and, also, of the body weight gains by the test animals indicated only small differences in nutritive value between rations. However, estimated nutritive values of ration components indicated appreciable differences. The TDN of cellufiber was 56% which was approximately equal to that of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) hay and was 82% of the value of maize silage. However, the digestible energy value of cellufiber (1.93 Mcal/kg DM) was only 77% of alfalfa hay and 69% of maize silage. Similarly, its metabolizable energe value of 1.41 Mcal/kg DM was 69% of that of alfalfa hay and 61% of that of maize silage.  相似文献

In some lower rainfall regions of the world (300–750 mm), common vetch (Vicia sativa L., hereafter referred to as vetch) has been shown to have yields competitive with alternate crops and provide high-quality hay for ruminant diets, but there are few studies of vetch performance as a livestock feed, or of vetch varietal differences in livestock feeding value. This study evaluated vetch varietal differences in hay nutritive value, ruminal fermentation properties, nutrient digestibility, nitrogen retention and animal performance in fattening lambs consuming a diet comprising 20% vetch. Fifty male Hu lambs with an initial BW of 17.7 ± 0.27 kg and 2–3 months of age were assigned randomly into five groups of 10 lambs, and each allocated one of five dietary treatments for 67 days (10 days of adaptation and a 57 day experimental period). All diets contained 30% maize stover, 50% concentrate, and with a different forage source (on an as-fed basis): 20% alfalfa hay (Control), 20% vetch 333A (C333A) hay, 20% vetch Lanjian No. 1 (CLJ1) hay, 20% vetch Lanjian No. 2 (CLJ2) hay, or 20% vetch Lanjian No. 3 (CLJ3) hay. Hay CLJ3 had greater contents of ash, CP, ether extract, in vitro organic matter digestibility and metabolizable energy, and lower cell wall contents (P < 0.05) than those of C333A and CLJ1 hays, but similar to the CLJ2 hay (P > 0.05). Compared to the Control diet, the CLJ2 and CLJ3 diets resulted in greater (P < 0.05) final BW, average daily gain, total tract apparent digestibility of CP and NDF, and nitrogen balance, both when expressed as g/day and relative to nitrogen intake, while animal performance when fed diets with C333A or CLJ1 diet did not differ (P > 0.05) from the Control diet. No differences (P > 0.05) were observed between dietary treatments with respect to average daily feed intake, ruminal pH, total volatile fatty acid contents and molar proportions of acetate, butyrate, valerate, isobutyrate, and isovalerate, or total tract apparent digestibility of DM, organic matter, and ADF. The feed efficiency of tested feeds ranked CLJ3 = CLJ2 > CLJ1 > Control with C333A intermediate between CLJ1 and Control. In summary, considering hay quality, nutrient digestibility and animal weight gain, performance as a ruminant feed of hays from recently released vetch cultivars Lanjian No. 2 and Lanjian No. 3 was superior to the older cultivar C333A and the alfalfa control.  相似文献

Daily voluntary intakes of feed by each of 89 Holstein cows were compared between day 220 of gestation and day 30 postpartum over a 21-month period. Diets designed to meet NRC requirements and which contained either chopped hay (29 cows), hay crop silage (HCS; 30 cows) or corn silage (CS; 30 cows) were compared prepartum (27 to 0 days), peripartum (1 day before to 3 days after calving) and postpartum (days 4 to 30 postpartum). Mixed rations, fed during lactation, were 60% forage and 40% concentrate dry matter (DM). Cow management was similar to commercial operations. The experimental hypothesis was that pre-disposition for partum and postpartum disorders (abnormal) could be related either to voluntary intake of different diets or to physical traits. Intakes (DM or estimated net energy) across diets decreased 30% between days 7 and 1 prepartum and averaged 18% and 20% lower peripartum and postpartum, respectively, in abnormal cows than in control cows. Seasonal effects on intakes were significant. In general, changes in body weight and condition and differences in udder edema and milk yield reflected intakes. The results support the original hypothesis.  相似文献

Twenty-seven Italian Merino male lambs, equally divided into three groups, were used to evaluate the effects of the dietary incorporation of citrus pulp dried by exploiting solar energy (solar-dried citrus pulp, SDCP) on growth and carcass and meat quality. The diet consisted of oat hay and concentrate, with a hay/concentrate ratio of 30/70. The concentrates of the SDCP-0, SDCP-30 and SDCP-45 groups were formulated to incorporate 0, 30 and 45% of SDCP, respectively, as partial replacement of cereal grain. The lambs were slaughtered after 80 days of feeding (at 150 days of age) and carcass and some meat quality parameters were measured. No significant differences were found in final live-weights and average daily gains among the groups. Lambs in the SCP-45 group showed impaired (P < 0.001) feed conversion efficiency, lower (P < 0.05) carcass weight and lower (P < 0.05) dressing percentage compared with the other two groups. The majority of SDCP-45 carcasses (88.9%) fell within the bis-grid EU system (light carcasses weighing ≤13 kg), while most SDCP-0 (66.7%) and SDCP-30 (77.8%) carcasses fell within the SEUROP system (heavy carcasses weighing >13 kg). The bis-grid EU carcass classification highlighted how all carcasses produced an ideal meat colour and fatness, while the SEUROP grid carcass classification showed good carcass conformation and optimal fatness in the SDCP-0 and SDCP-30 groups. Carcass compactness was found to be significantly higher (P < 0.05) in groups SDCP-0 and SDCP-30 compared to group SDCP-45. The histological dissection of the pelvic limb evidenced a higher (P < 0.01) adiposity in the SDCP-0 and SDCP-30 groups. Chemical analysis of meat did not differ significantly among the groups. Physical analysis of the meat showed higher (P < 0.05) redness value and higher (P < 0.05) chroma value in the SDCP-0 and SDCP-30 groups. Based on the results of the present study it may be concluded that SDCP can be incorporated in concentrate mixtures for fattening lambs at levels equal to 30% without adverse effects both in growth and slaughter performances as well as in carcass and meat quality and, at this replacement level, it appears also to be economically convenient.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of high-quality hay with an elevated sugar content alone or with graded amounts of concentrate feed on chewing and ruminating activity, apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) and ruminal pH at different time points after feeding in the free ruminal liquid (FRL) and the particle-associated ruminal liquid (PARL). Eight rumen cannulated non-lactating Holstein cows were arranged in a Latin square design in four experimental runs lasting 25 d each. The four diets tested were 60NQ (60% normal-quality hay + 40% concentrate), 60HQ (60% high-quality hay + 40% concentrate), 75HQ (75% high-quality hay + 25% concentrate) and 100HQ (100% high-quality hay). Normal and high-quality hays differed in sugar contents (11.3% vs. 18.7% in dry matter [DM]), neutral detergent fibre (NDF; 57.7% vs. 46.3% in DM), acid detergent fibre (ADF, 35.0% vs. 23.5% in DM) and crude protein (CP, 11.3% vs. 23.5% in DM). Data showed that ATTD of DM, CP, NDF and ADF was higher with the high-quality hay diets. Time spent eating was reduced with high-quality hay. However, time spent ruminating was longest in Group 100HQ. In all groups, ruminal pH of FRL and PARL decreased with time after the morning feeding. But 10 h later, pH of Group 100HQ was higher again compared with the other groups. Considering the average pH in FRL over all measured time points, cows in Groups 60NQ and 100HQ had higher pH values of 6.85 and 6.83, respectively. Regarding pH values in PARL, animals of Group 60NQ displayed the highest pH value (6.68), whereas the lowest value of 6.21 was found in Group 60HQ. Overall, results suggest that high-quality hay maintains the diet’s structural effectiveness by stimulating rumination and stabilising ruminal pH while greatly improving ATTD. However, the structural effectiveness of the high-quality hay gets impaired with increasing proportion of concentrate feed in the diet.  相似文献

The last decade has seen important developments in the use of carotenoid pigments to authenticate pasture-feeding in ruminants. However, dehydrated alfalfa is sometimes incorporated in grain-based concentrates fed to stall-raised lambs, which may affect the reliability of the pasture-feeding authentication methods based on carotenoids in plasma and fat, due to significant residual carotenoid levels post-dehydration. The aim of this study was to examine whether other compounds can give additional information to authenticate diet and discriminate pasture-fed lambs from lambs fed high levels of alfalfa indoors. Two feeding treatments were compared: pasture-feeding (P) v. stall-feeding with dehydrated alfalfa (A). Each treatment group consisted of seven male Romanov × Berrichon lambs. Pasture-fed (P) lambs grazed a permanent graminaceae-rich pasture maintained at a leafy, green stage, offered ad libitum; they received no supplementation at pasture. A-group lambs were individually penned and fed dehydrated alfalfa and straw; their feed level was adjusted to achieve a similar growth pattern as for P-group lambs. Plasma carotenoid concentration was measured at slaughter by spectrophotometry. The reflectance spectrum of perirenal and subcutaneous caudal fat was measured at 24-h post mortem and used to calculate an index (absolute value of the mean integral (AVMI)) quantifying light absorption by carotenoid pigments present in the fat. The nitrogen (N) stable isotopes ratio (δ15N) in both feed and longissimus dorsi muscle was measured by isotopes ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS). Volatile compounds were analyzed in perirenal fat for five randomly chosen lambs per treatment, using dynamic headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Plasma carotenoid concentration and AVMI of the fat did not differ significantly between P- and A-group lambs, but there were significant between-treatment differences in meat δ15N values and in the terpene profiles of perirenal fat. A discriminant analysis performed using three compounds in different animal tissues (δ-cadinene in perirenal fat, δ15N value of the meat and plasma carotenoid concentration) clearly separated pasture-fed lambs from lambs fed high levels of alfalfa indoors.  相似文献

Abstract

Forty-eight male lambs were used to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation of mannan-oligosaccharide (MOS) with or without parenteral Escherichia coli injection on their growth performance, feed conversion efficiency, blood metabolites, total serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels and antibody response. Lambs were randomly assigned to four groups of 12 animals each. In groups C (control) and CE (E. coli challenged), animals were fed commercial concentrate pellets and hay (50:50), and in groups M (MOS) and ME (MOS+E. coli challenged), animals were fed commercial concentrate pellets including MOS at 0.2% and hay (50:50). At day 15 and 30, animals in groups CE and ME were injected subcutaneously with 1 ml of phosphate buffered saline (PBS) suspension containing 106 cfu of heat inactivated non-toxigenic E. coli O157:H7, while animals in C and M groups were injected subcutaneously with 1 ml of PBS. 相似文献

Male broiler chicks (n=120) were fed diets containing 0, 5, 10 or 15% dried distillers' grains with solubles (DDGS) from the 12th day up to the end of fattening (day 35). During this period feed intake, weight gain and excreta quality (pH, DM) were tested. A digestibility trial was carried out on four birds from each group on the last five days of the experiment to determine the digestibility of organic matter and CP of the different diets. The protein digestibility was evaluated using three different methods; uric acid correction, alpha-amino-N and amino acid-N. There were no significant effects of increased DDGS levels on feed intake, weight gain, excreta quality or digestibility of CP and organic matter. However, feed conversion showed a tendency to decline at the highest DDGS level (15%). Digestibility of DDGS protein was estimated to be 77%. There was no significant difference between uric acid and alpha-amino-N method, but both methods had a significantly lower CP digestibility than amino acid-N. The present results indicate that DDGS can be used as a protein source in diets for fattening broilers up to 10-15%.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to study the inclusion of 0, 30, 45 and 60% sun-dried, ground cassava tubers (CM) in growing rations; and of 15 and 30% CM plus 15 and 20% sun-dried, ground cassava peel (CPM) in finishing rations of Large White and local pigs. Growing pigs receiving rations containing CM or CPM grew slightly but non-significantly faster and were slightly more efficient in feed conversion than pigs on the control diet. Generally, Large White pigs appeared to utilise CM better than local pigs while local pigs utilised CPM better than Large White pigs. Carcasses of control pigs had significantly higher dressing values than those of pigs on the substituted rations. Cassava meal, being more digestible than CPM, increased the digestibility of CM—CPM mixtures.  相似文献

Male broiler chicks (n = 120) were fed diets containing 0, 5, 10 or 15% dried distillers' grains with solubles (DDGS) from the 12th day up to the end of fattening (day 35). During this period feed intake, weight gain and excreta quality (pH, DM) were tested.
