No less than 3 different parasitical lichens were found on the corticolous lichenCaloplaca polycarpoides in Afghanistan. Partly, they also grow on closely allied species of the sect.Xanthoriella. Lecania triseptata begins and ends as a typical parasite, and does not form a thallus outside of its host.L. diplococca andRinodina afghanica, both described as new species, have a similar appearance; they are parasitic in the beginning, but form their own thalli outside the host later on. The 3 species are members of the small group of parasitical lichens growing on corticolous hosts. Possibly, the slow degeneration of cortices under the arid climatical conditions, has allowed the evolution of parasitic lichens of this rare type in Central Asia.

Five new species ofAnthemis sect.Anthemis from the Flora Iranica region are described:A. gillettii (subsect.Anthemis) from NW. Iraq and adjacent Iran is allied toA. damascena.—A. kurdica (subsect.Anthemis) also grows in Iraqi Kurdistan.—A. hamrinensis (subsect.Rascheyana; akin toA. plebeia) is distributed in the Jabal Hamrin region at the extreme outer margin of the Zagros chains.—A. kandaharica (subsect.Anthemis) andA. freitagii (subsect.Rascheyana) are distributed in Afghanistan.

TheOmphalotaceae fam. nov., which include the generaOmphalotus andLampteromyces, are defined on the basis of characteristic sesquiterpenes and of their ability to cause white-rot. Anatomical and morphological features of the representatives of these genera support the creation of this new family. The occurrence of pigments, typical of theBoletales, and of cyanophilous spores, indicate membership of theOmphalotaceae in the orderBoletales. Relationships to the other families of this order — especially to thePaxillaceae — are discussed. The possible functional significance of fungal metabolites is considered.

Chaenothecopsis consociata regularly is lichenized withDictyochloropsis symbiontica, nova spec., a member of theChlorococcales. During early developmentChaenothecopsis consociata possibly parasitizes onChaenotheca chrysocephala.Dictyochloropsis symbiontica is characterized by its hollow spherical chloroplast which consists of a complex threedimensional network, the absence of a pyrenoid, and the possession of one central nucleus. It reproduces by autospores as well as by zoo- and aplanospores.

Acalypha gentlei is described, illustrated and mapped. The species is endemic to Belize and adjacent areas of Mexico and Guatemala and restricted to semi-deciduous moist forests on limestone. The species is referred to Acalypha subgenus Linostachys.

A new species of Brachistus is described from the region of Chiriquí in Panama. Brachistus knappiae morphologically resembles Brachistus stramoniifolius, and has been confused with it in the past. The diagnostic features of Brachistus knappiae are discussed, and the plant is illustrated.

Brachistus knappiae es morfológicamente parecida a B. stramoniifolius, lo cual provocaba que fuera erróneamente identificada como esta especie en el pasado. Se discuten los caracteres diagnósticos de Brachistus knappiae y la planta es ilustrada.

A new species of Crossoglossa (Orchidaceae: Epidendroideae: Malaxideae), Crossoglossa acuminatissima, from Santander del Sur Department in Colombia, is described and illustrated, and its affinities are discussed. Malaxis tipuloides var. exigua is raised to the rank of species as Crossoglossa exigua, and its report from Venezuela constitutes the first record of the genus Crossoglossa in that country.

The pollen morphology of the taxa belonging to the generaAetheorhiza Cass.,Launaea Cass.,Reichardia Roth andSonchus L. in the Iberian Peninsula has been studied with light and electron microscopy. The pollen is 3(-4)-zonocolporate and echinolophate (without polar lacunae, but in general with prelacunae), with equatorial ridges and 15–20 lacunae: 3–4 poral, 6–8 abporal and 6–8 paraporal. Small to medium size, P × E = 19–36 × 23–42 µm; sometimes two different sizes have been found. Exine 3–9 µm thick and ornamentation microreticulate and echinate. Dalea pseudocorymbosa is described from the western part of the state of Durango, Mexico. It is referred to Dalea subgenus Parosela section Parosela series Psoraleoides. It is morphologically most similar to Dalea tomentosa var. mota but is distinguished from it by characters of the leaf, inflorescence, and flower.
Resumen   Dalea pseudocorymbosa es descrita de la parte oeste del estado de Durango, México. Pertenece al subgénero Parosela sección Parosela serie Psoraleoides. Es morfológicamente muy similar a Dalea tomentosa var. mota pero se distingue de esta por sus caracteres de hoja, inflorescencia y flores.

Columnea lariensis is described and illustrated as a new species from the Talamanca Mountains, Costa Rica. It is similar to C. canarina from Panama. Alloplectus weirii is here reported for the first time from Mesoamerica and an illustration is provided.

Zusammenfassung Markiertes Glycin und Serin wurde in Ferrichrom, Ferricrocin und Ferrichrysin von vier Stämmen der Gattung Aspergillus zu 1,6–11,8% in vivo eingebaut. Von Aspergillus fumigatus und A. quadricinctus wurden zellfreie Extrakte hergestellt, die Cyclohexapeptide synthetisieren können.
Incorporation of glycine and serine in sideramines of the ferrichrome type with fungi of the genus Aspergillus in vivo and in vitro
A 1.6–11.8% incorporation of labelled glycine and serine into ferrichrome, ferricrocin and ferrichrysin has been achieved with four strains of Aspergillus in vivo. Cell-free extracts of Aspergillus fumigatus and A. quadricinctus capable of cyclohexapeptide biosynthesis have been prepared.
