The RBE coefficient of neutrons (0.85 MeV) was 1.87 in comparison with that of electron radiation (8 MeV) as determined by the death rate of guinea pigs with the cerebral form of radiation sickness. LD50/1.5 amounted to 43.2 and 80.7 Gy. The dynamics of clinical symptoms at the height of the disease is discussed.  相似文献

Certain peculiarities have been revealed in the development of radiation sickness in guinea pigs subjected to nonuniform irradiation with superlethal doses. The endocrine status of the organism estimated by the cortisol, insulin and triiodothyronine content of blood considerably changes during radiation sickness. The most pronounced changes in the endocrine status occur during the primary response and at the height of radiation sickness. A 24-hour electron microscopic examination of neuronal and capillary ultrastructure in sensorimotor complex was performed after whole-body neutron irradiation of mature rats in the dose of 10 Gy. The results suggest that postradiation neuronal changes, observed for 6 hours after irradiation, are mainly caused by direct effect of ionizing radiation. At later terms this process is influenced by blood capillary lesions. The effect of neutron irradiation at the ultrastructural level is similar to that of rarely ionizing radiation.  相似文献

Whole-body gamma-irradiation of rats with a dose inducing bone marrow radiation syndrome caused phase organospecific changes in UMP-synthase activity. Disturbances of enzymic activity in the bone marrow and spleen well correlated with the dynamics of interphase and reproductive cell death. Light and electron microscopy were applied to the study in sexually mature rats and mice of the areas of the duodenum, jejunum and the ileum 3-4 days after the irradiation in doses of 1000, 1500, 7000 and 15 000 R. Paraffine mucosal sections of the small intestine showed denuding of the stroma of individual villi. However, a study of the thin and semithin epon sections by light microscopy and of the ultrathin ones--by electron microscopy showed the villi to be always covered with enterocytes, whose cytoplasm was overloaded with lipid droplets and almost structureless. Thus, during the enteric form of acute radiation sickness there was no vital denuding of the villi, and the presence of such on paraffine sections served as the result of inadequate treatment of the material.  相似文献
