The Santonian-Campanian boundary in Northern Tunisia has been studied in Oued el Khannga section, based on biostratigraphic and paleoecological analysis. The detailed biostratigraphic analysis allows us to define the stratigraphic distribution of diverse planktonic foraminifera and to establish a continuous biozonation. Sixty-six planktonic foraminiferal species belonging to 13 genera have been identified and two Tethyan planktonic foraminiferal zones have been organized, indicating the upper Santonian - lower Campanian age. These zones are: Dicarinella asymetrica (Total Range Zone) and Globotruncanita elevata/Globotruncana arca (Concurrent range zone). A major turn over event was recorded in this interval including the extinction of several species characterized by complex morphotypes with a double keel such as the genera of Dicarinella, Marginotruncana. In fact, the extinction of the index species Dasymetrica is the most important event which defines the Santonian-Campanian boundary. Many representative species of the genera Globotruncanita and Globotruncana occurred, for the first time, in the uppermost of the Santonian and thrived close to the Santonian-Campanian boundary. In addition some surviving species with a simple morphotype, which are considered like opportunistic taxa, crossed the boundary. This various responses of planktonic foraminifera and the fluctuation in diversity and in the number of species may be related to an increase in temperature and a deep outer shelf upper bathyal environment deposit.  相似文献

The first high-resolution integrated biostratigraphic study for Santonian/Campanian sediments of the Tabin section in the Kurdistan Region, northeast Iraq is provided. The study, based on 28 closely spaced samples, combines data from planktic foraminifers (25 species), calcareous nannofossils (32 species) and two ammonite genera in the Kometan Formation, marking the Santonian/Campanian boundary (S/C boundary) in the Kurdistan Region. In the absence of the crinoid Marsupites testudinarius, the proposed boundary marker, secondary markers such as calcareous nannofossils, planktic foraminifers and ammonites, have been used to establish a multi-stratigraphic biozonation for the late Santonian–early Campanian duration. Based on the occurrences of calcareous nannofossils, three biozones are identified — Lucianorhabdus cayeuxii (late Santonian), Calculites obscurus (latest Santonian–earliest Campanian), and Broinsonia parca parca (early Campanian). Seven calcareous nannofossil bioevents and three planktic foraminiferal bioevents are also identified. The Santonian/Campanian boundary is marked by: (a) the LO (Last Occurrence) of the planktic foraminifera D. asymetrica, (b) the FOs (First Occurrence) of the calcareous nannofossil species B. parca parca and B. parca constricta, (c) the extinction of several planktic foraminiferal species of Dicarinella and Marginotruncana, (d) the abundance and diversification of the planktic foraminifera genera, Globotruncana and Globotruncanita at the beginning of the Campanian, and (e) the disappearance of the ammonite genus Texanites, 0.5 m below (i.e., at 19 m) the disappearance of all Dicarinella and Marginotruncana species in the study section. Similar to several other Tethyan sections, the FO of B. parca parca is above the LOs of D. concavata and D. asymetrica; the LO of D. asymetrica is used here to mark the S/C boundary  相似文献

Guadalupian–Lopingian sedimentary rocks are widely distributed in accretionary complexes in Japan, but the Guadalupian–Lopingian boundary (G–LB) is not well documented from these pelagic sediments. To identify the G–LB and to better correlate an extinction event that occurred around the Guadalupian–Lopingian boundary, we examined the conodont biostratigraphy from a Permian pelagic chert sequence in the Gujo-hachiman section, Gifu, southwest Japan. Age-diagnostic conodonts, including Clarkina postbitteri postbitteri, were found in this section. The biostratigraphic occurrences of these age-diagnostic conodonts can pinpoint the “G–L transitional zone” in the Gujo-hachiman section by comparison with well-studied sections from south China, including the GSSP section. The transitional zone was recognized by the first occurrence horizons of both Clarkina postbitteri hongshuiensis and C. p. postbitteri. The G–LB has been placed at or above the first occurrence horizon of the radiolarians Albaillella yamakitai or Albaillella cavitata in previous studies from China and Japan. We detected the first occurrence horizon of A. yamakitai below the base of the “G–L transitional zone,” in the Upper Capitanian. The conodont biostratigraphy is consistent with the radiolarian biostratigraphy in this section, which can be correlated to relevant sections in China.  相似文献

Middle and Late Ordovician strata in the nearshore area of the western Yangtze Platform are investigated. In total, 241 δ13Ccarb samples and 108 conodont samples from the Songliang and Tuanjie sections in the northeastern Yunnan Province were collected for chemostratigraphic and biostratigraphic studies. Altogether, 21 species belonging to 16 conodont genera were recovered from the two sections, among which Ansella jemtlandica, Drepanoistodus basiovalis, Hamarodus brevirameus, and Microzarkodina hagetiana are important age indicators within the Dapingian to early Katian interval. Four carbon isotope shifts are recognized in the studied sections: a negative shift in the early Darriwilian, the middle Darriwilian carbon isotope excursion (MDICE), the early Katian Guttenberg carbon isotope excursion (GICE), and a further positive carbon isotope shift later in the early Katian which is a new record of this event in South China. Integrated carbon chemostratigraphy and conodont biostratigraphy indicate early Darriwilian and early Katian ages for the base and top, respectively, of the Huadan Formation at the Songliang section, and a Darriwilian to early Katian age for the Shihtzupu Formation at the Tuanjie section.  相似文献

Radiolarians are usually abundant in chert sequences and they have thus been widely used for the biostratigraphy of deep-water sediments. However, there are many difficulties in the correlation of radiolarian biostratigraphic schemes with the standard conodont zones. In this study, 21 radiolarian species were extracted from the Gufeng Formation that crops out in the Luojiaba (LJB) section (western Hubei, China), together with 5 co-occurring conodont species. In this way, it is the first time that the Pseudoalbaillella globosa, Follicucullus monacanthus and F. scholasticus radiolarian zones can be directly correlated with the Jinogondolella nankingensis gracilis, J. aserrata and J. postserrata conodont zones. Accordingly, the 3 radiolarians zones are now firmly correlated with the Roadian to middle Capitanian interval (Middle Permian).  相似文献

In the first part of this paper we present the calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy of the Capo Rossello section (Sicily), which suggests that a sedimentary gap exists at the contact between the “Trubi” and the overlying Monte Narbone Formation, close to the top of the proposed Zanclean stratotype. This suggestion is supported by the planktonic foraminiferal results and field observations. In contrast, the transition from the “Trubi” to the Monte Narbone Formation is well exposed, gradational and biostratigraphically continuous in the nearby section of Punta Piccola. A composite of the Capo Rossello and Punta Piccola sections serves as a good biostratigraphic reference for the Pliocene of the Mediterranean.In a second part of this paper, we have attempted to update the Mediterranean Pliocene time framework by integrating all of the available biostratigraphic, biochronologic, chronostratigraphic, paleomagnetic and radiometric data.  相似文献

Larger benthic foraminifera (LBF) are significant proxies in biostratigraphy and also act as excellent indicators of shallow-marine carbonate environments in fossil series. The Palaeogene LBF recorded from Meghalaya, NE India (eastern part of the relic eastern Tethys/Neo-Tethys) have high potential for dating shallow-marine sediments and documenting the multiple episodes of carbonate sedimentation that have contributed to the development of the Sylhet Limestone Group. Early Eocene witnessed the proliferation of LBF species worldwide, the phenomenon better known as the Larger Foraminiferal Turnover (LFT). Genera like Alveolina, Nummulites and Orbitolites with broad species complexes thrived as the dominant LBF amidst numerous other taxa on the verge of extinction or only surviving as stable forms. The current study emphasizes on the biostratigraphic and palaeoenvironmental account of the early Eocene Umlatdoh Limestone successions outcropping in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, primarily based on the recorded species of Alveolina and other larger benthic foraminifera. Five species of AlveolinaA. oblonga, A. schwageri, A. cf. ruetimeyeri, A. aff. haymanensis and A. aff. varians are recorded in the evaluated sections that indicate an early Eocene age corresponding to the Shallow Benthic Zone 10. Major carbonate facies types in the present assessment include oolitic-smaller benthic foraminiferal -green algal grainstone–packstone, smaller miliolid-Alveolina grainstone, green algal-benthic foraminiferal grainstone, larger porcellaneous (Alveolina) grainstone-packstone, Alveolina-nummulitid grainstone-rudstone, and nummulitid grainstone-rudstone, which indicate a shallow marine, high-energy depositional environment ranging from shoal-sandy bars to a distal inner ramp setting.  相似文献

This paper describes and characterises the co-occurrence of ammonite and benthic foraminiferal assemblages across the São Gião outcrop (Central Portugal), a reference section for the Lower-Middle Jurassic boundary in the Lusitanian Basin. The upper Toarcian-lower Aalenian marls and marly-limestones in this section provide a precise and detailed ammonite-based biostratigraphic zonation, with a mixed assemblage of northwest European and Mediterranean faunal elements, associated with benthic foraminifera assemblages with northern hemisphere affinities, both correlatable with the Aalenian GSSP at the Fuentelsaz section (Iberian Cordillera, Spain). A total of 447 well-preserved ammonite specimens and 13.116 foraminifera have been studied; no evidence was detected of any taphonomic processes that could have changed the original assemblages. From a biostratigraphic point of view, the ammonite record has enabled four biostratigraphic units to be recognised (the Mactra and Aalensis subzones of the Aalensis Biozone in the upper Toarcian, and the Opalinum and Comptum subzones of the Opalinum Biozone in the lower Aalenian). With regard to the benthic foraminifera, the taxa identified have enabled the Astacolus dorbignyi Zone and 11 bioevents to be identified, most of which representing local biostratigraphic proxies. However, the increase in the relative abundance of Lenticulina exgaleata Dieni from the upper part of the Opalinum Subzone to the lower part of the Comptum Subzone has a regional value. The constant and continuous ammonite record of northwest European taxa, together with typical Mediterranean taxa – namely Grammoceratinae – throughout the section, the high relative abundance of Miliolina representatives – generally interpreted as foraminifers typical of shallow waters – and the absence of foraminiferal forms typical of cool waters, do not support the inference of cool seawater temperatures attributed to the Early Aalenian, or the global character of the “Comptum cooling event”, at least with reference to the Lusitanian Basin.  相似文献

A quantitative study was performed on planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossils of the astronomically dated Late Miocene Pissouri section (Cyprus). Our results confirm the reliability of well-known planktonic foraminiferal events as Catapsydraxparvulus LO (Last Occurrence), sinistral coiling change of Globorotaliascitula, Globorotaliamiotumida group FRO (First Regular Occurrence), Globorotalianicolae FO (First occurrence) and LO, sinistral coiling change of Neogloboquadrinaacostaensis and also of several important calcareous nannofossil events (Amaurolithusprimus FO, Amaurolithusdelicatus FO, Reticulofenestrarotaria FO and FCO). Integrated planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannoplankton data contribute to an enhanced time resolution of the Tortonian - early Messinian interval in the Levantine basin, and contribute to detailed correlations throughout the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition, we compare methodologies commonly used in calcareous plankton biostratigraphy, and shortly outline sources of bias that can influence the results of stratigraphic studies.  相似文献

Microproblematica from the Campanian–Maastrichtian boundary stratotype (Tercis, France) include the continuously evolving genus Aturella, short-living taxa, and widely distributed taxa. The same is true in the immediate vicinity as well as in the southern Pyrénées, 100 km apart. These newly established microfossils allow the most precise regional biostratigraphical correlations. Amongst contemporaneous foraminifera, Radotruncana calcarata was collected from seven sections from the platform and flysch facies where it was formerly unknown or poorly known. Regionally, this foraminifer is the most precise foraminiferal marker of the end of the Cretaceous, as it was already elsewhere in the world. Absent from the flysch facies, the microproblematica are restricted to the pithonellid-rich platform facies.  相似文献

High-resolution calcareous plankton (planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossils) biostratigraphy is presented from the Middle to early Late Miocene interval (from 14.45 to 8.86 Ma) at Site 926 (ODP Leg 154, equatorial Atlantic Ocean). The main bioevents used in the low-latitude zonal schemes, and also auxiliary events revealing potential biostratigraphic value have been recognised. The investigated succession ranges from N.10 to N.16 Zones based on planktonic foraminifera, and from NN5 (CN4) to NN10 (CN8) Zones based on calcareous nannofossils. The evolution of the planktonic foraminiferal Globorotalia fohsi lineage appears to be environmentally controlled. The main diagnostic features of the species of this lineage are not always evident, rendering problematic the definition of the N.9/N.10, N.10/N.11 and N.11/N.12 zonal boundaries. Calcareous plankton events have been calibrated on the basis of the Astronomical Time Scale of Shackleton and Crowhurst 〚Shackleton, N.J., Crowhurst, S., 1997. Sediment fluxes based on an orbitally tuned time scale 5 Ma to 14 Ma, Site 926. In: Curry, W.B., Shackleton, N.J., Richter, C., Bralower, T.J. (Eds.), Proceedings of the Ocean Drilling Program, Scientific Results, College Station, TX (Ocean Drilling Program) 154, pp. 69–82〛. The astrobiochronology obtained at Site 926 has been compared with that of the Mediterranean astronomically calibrated deep marine successions, allowing the evaluation of the degree of synchroneity and diachroneity of bioevents. Some bioevents, such as the last occurrence of Globigerinoides subquadratus dated at 11.55 Ma, the last occurrence of Sphenolithus heteromorphus dated at 13.51 Ma and the last common occurrence of Cyclicargolithus floridanus calibrated at 13.32 Ma, are near-synchronous events between the equatorial Atlantic and the Mediterranean area indicating their high biostratigratigraphic value in global correlation. The diachroneity of the last occurrence of Paragloborotalia siakensis, the first occurrence of Neogloboquadrina acostaensis and the last occurrence of Globorotalia peripheroronda between equatorial Atlantic and the Mediterranean reflect a different spatial and temporal distribution of these marker species probably due to a sharp definition of surface plankton provinces related to the latitudinal thermal gradient.  相似文献

The late Smithian extinction represents a major event within the Early Triassic. This event generally corresponds to a succession of two, possibly three successively less diverse, cosmopolitan ammonoid assemblages, which when present, provide a robust biostratigraphic framework and precise correlations at different spatial scales. In the western USA basin, known occurrences of latest Smithian taxa are rare and until now, have only been documented from northeastern Nevada. Based on these restricted basinal occurrences, a regional zone representing the latest Smithian was postulated but not corroborated, as representative taxa had not yet been reported from outside Nevada. Here we document two new ammonoid assemblages from distant localities in northern Utah, overlying the late Smithian Anasibirites beds and characterized by the unambiguous co-occurrence of Xenoceltites subevolutus and Pseudosageceras augustum. The existence of a latest Smithian zone in the western USA basin is therefore validated, facilitating the identification of the Smithian/Spathian boundary and intra-basin correlation. This zone also correlates with the latest Smithian zone recognized from southern Tethyan basins. Additionally, these new data support other observed occurrences of Xenoceltites subevolutus throughout most of the late Smithian.  相似文献

Late Neogene stable isotope stratigraphy and planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy have been examined in a high sedimentation rate core (E67-135, Shell Oil Co.) drilled at 725 m water depth in the De Soto Canyon, Gulf of Mexico. The 305 m core contains sections that are Late Miocene, Early Pliocene, Late Pliocene, and Quaternary in age, and is rich in well-preserved assemblages of planktonic foraminifera.A biostratigraphy has been established based on the ranges of 34 selected species of foraminifera. The core 3orrelates with sections from the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and the subtropical North and South Atlantic Oceans using, as datums, the evolutionary appearances of Globorotalia miocenica Palmer and Globorotalia margaritae evoluta Cita, the extinction of Globorotalia miocenica and the first appearance of Globorotalia truncatulinoides (d'Orbigny).Oxygen and carbon isotope stratigraphy is based on analysis of the benthonic foraminifer, Uvigerina d'Orbigny. Isotopic trends are similar to those observed in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. From Early Pliocene to Late Pleistocene time, average δ18O values increase (2.42‰ to 3.36‰) and exhibit a wider range of values (0.71‰ in Early Pliocene compared to 1.65‰ in Late Pleistocene sediments), probably reflecting Late Neogene climatic deterioration. The ratio 13C12C decreases significantly by ?0.21‰ from the Late Miocene to the Early Pliocene. A decrease in δ13C is observed in other cores and is probably related to changing oceanic circulation patterns in Late Miocene time.  相似文献

This paper summarizes the results of investigations carried out in the Mokrá quarry since 2006 on the biostratigraphy of the Tournaisian-Visean (T-V) boundary interval. It also integrates previous results obtained by J. Kalvoda and collaborators. The main focus is on the boundary itself, but stratigraphically lower and higher levels have been investigated as well to provide a biostratigraphical context spanning the late Tournaisian to early Visean. This stratigraphical level has been the focus of intense international research in the recent years under the auspices of the Subcommission on Carboniferous Stratigraphy (SCCS) in order to find a new criterion and reference section (Global Stratotype Section and Point, GSSP) for the base of the Visean Stage. The appearance of Eoparastaffella simplex from its ancestor E.ovalis” and the Pengchong section (Guangxi, southern China) have recently been proposed by the Task Group on the Tournaisian-Visean Boundary and ratified by the SCCS as the new biostratigraphic criterion and GSSP for the base of the Visean, respectively. The sequence exposed in Mokrá is not suitable as a GSSP, notably because it is an active quarry, but it contains most of the foraminifer and conodont guides allowing a high-resolution biostratigraphy of the boundary interval. In addition, it contains abundant trilobites. For these reasons, it constitutes one of the best sections across the T-V boundary in Europe and can serve as a useful additional reference.  相似文献

The phylogeny of the Vanguerieae genera Fadogia, Rytigynia, Vangueria, and closely related genera is investigated using nuclear rDNA ITS sequences and plastid trnT-F and rpl16 sequences. Individual and combined analyses reveal several strongly supported clades. There are indications that Fadogia, Rytigynia, Tapiphyllum, and Vangueria are para- or polyphyletic and only Multidentia is strongly supported as monophyletic. Several taxa are found to have incongruent positions in the ITS and chloroplast phylogenies, and possible reasons behind these incongruencies are discussed. For Ancylanthos rubiginosus a chloroplast capture event can explain the incongruent position. In the Fadogia-Rytigynia group the incongruence is more widespread and cannot be attributed to a single taxon or a few taxa, but hybridization and introgression is the most likely explanation for the incongruence. It is concluded that the genera Ancylanthos, Lagynias, Pachystigma, and Tapiphyllum and the three species Fadogia agrestis, Rytigynia fuscosetulosa, and Rytigynia induta should be transferred to Vangueria.  相似文献

Hydroidolinan hydrozoans are widely represented in the benthic Antarctic ecosystem, mainly by some endemic and putative monophyletic groups, never included in molecular phylogenetic analyses. 38 partial sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene were obtained for 38 species belonging to 14 families (six anthoathecates and eight leptothecates) and 20 genera (7 anthoathecates and 13 leptothecates). These sequences were combined with 108 additional sequences retrieved from the GenBank to investigate both the hypothetical monophyletism and the phylogenetic relationships of those endemic Antarctic groups; the potential use of the marker for barcoding was also investigated. Our results uphold the monophyly of some important hydroidolinan groups, such as the superfamily Plumularioidea (together with all its families, including Schizotrichidae, fam. nov.) and the Aplanulata. Concerning the Antarctic endemic groups, most results as monophyletic (Oswaldella, Schizotricha and Staurotheca), some genera form part of the expectable groups (e.g. Abietinella, located into the monophyletic Zygophylacinae clade) and, finally, others have shown a surprising position (e.g. Stegella, closely related to Lafoeinae, or Billardia and Stegopoma, allied with Hebellidae). Finally, our study has shown the utility of the marker to recognize the Antarctic species considered, but the low genetic divergence in some of the most important Antarctic groups suggests being careful when using it for DNA barcoding in the case of the original Antarctic hydroid fauna.  相似文献

Dissolution experiments were carried out on a foraminiferal assemblage from the Paleocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) at Dababiya, Egypt, in order to: 1) reveal the effects of differential dissolution on the composition of the foraminiferal assemblage and 2) develop objective criteria for the evaluation of dissolution in foraminiferal assemblages used in early Paleogene paleoenvironmental reconstructions, particularly with respect to neritic Midway-type assemblages from the Paleocene/Eocene transition. Our results confirm two general observations on modern foraminifera: 1) planktic foraminifera are much more vulnerable to dissolution than benthic foraminifera, leading to depressed P/B ratios and 2) dissolution susceptibility differs between size fractions, with the smaller specimens dissolving more rapidly than the bigger ones, leading to a larger average size of the remaining assemblage. Within a size fraction, wall structure and thickness are considered to be the main factors controlling differential dissolution susceptibility. We propose a ranking scheme for taxa with respect to dissolution resistance. Among the benthic taxa, Lenticulina is most resistant, followed by the agglutinated Gaudryina cf. ellisorae and Alabamina midwayensis. Biserial and triserial hyaline taxa and the porcelaneous Spiroloculina sp. are most susceptible to dissolution, whereas rotaliines, such as Cibicidoides and Anomalinoides have an intermediate susceptibility. This implies that mild dissolution of a Midway-type benthic assemblage leads to a relative enrichment in Lenticulina, Gaudryina and rotaliines. Amongst planktic foraminifera, the muricate taxa Acarinina and Morozovella are most resistant, followed by the cancellate Subbotina. The smooth and generally small Globanomalina and Zeauvigerina are least resistant to dissolution. Our data enable to objectively evaluate various degrees of dissolution in benthic and planktic foraminiferal assemblages retrieved from the lower Paleogene Tethyan outcrops. In this way taphonomic artifacts can be readily distinguished from paleoenvironmental signals affecting the primary composition of the assemblages. More generally, we propose that the combined use of foraminiferal numbers, P/B ratio and relative abundances of non-calcareous agglutinated taxa and Lenticulina may provide a powerful proxy for assessing dissolution in hemipelagic assemblages from Cenozoic and upper Cretaceous continental margins. In order to achieve more robust pre-Quaternary paleoenvironmental reconstructions based on quantitative foraminiferal data, application of dissolution proxies, like proposed here, or in slightly modified form, should become a more widely used micropaleontologic procedure. Particularly continental margin studies dealing with major biotic events (e.g. PETM) or employing P/B ratios for sea-level reconstructions should benefit from such an approach.  相似文献

Species delimitation in Cystoderma and Cystodermella was evaluated based on ITS and LSU rDNA sequences as well as morphological data. Two species of Cystoderma are synonymised with C. carcharias and three species with C. jasonis, distinguishing the synonymised taxa as varieties of these accepted species. Analyses of partial LSU rDNA sequences revealed Cystoderma and Cystodermella as distinct monophyletic genera, with Ripartitella representing a well-supported sister group of the latter. Phaeolepiota aurea represents either an unsupported sister group or member of Cystoderma in the phylogenies based on LSU and ITS sequences rDNA data, respectively. The tribe Cystodermateae sensu Singer did not appear monophyletic according to analyses of LSU sequences. On the basis of these data, the phylogenetic relationships among most of the analyzed genera could not be resolved unequivocally.  相似文献

The Upper Cretaceous succession in the Madenli area (western Central Taurides, Southern Turkey) consists of platform carbonate rocks deposited in entirely peritidal environments, which are sensitive to sea level changes driven by global eustasy, but also strongly affected by local and regional tectonics. It includes economically important bauxite deposits. Previous works suggest different ages for bauxite formation ranging from the Albian to the Santonian. Benthic foraminiferal biostratigraphy and facies analysis of the Madenli and Doğankuzu outcrop sections allow for a more precise dating of the platform emersion periods. The footwall limestones of the bauxite deposits consist of well-bedded limestones (Unit-1), which contain a benthic foraminiferal assemblage (BFA) including mainly Biconcava bentori and Pastrikella biplana, Chrysalidina gradata (BFA I), assigned to the middle-upper Cenomanian. In the Madenli section, the first bauxite deposit occurs in the upper part of Unit-1 as a layer interbedded with pinkish sparitic and dolomitic beds (subunit-1a) deposited in supratidal environment. Subunit-1a is stratigraphically equivalent to the Doğankuzu and Mortaş bauxite deposits considered as karst-related, unconformity-type deposits. The hanging-wall limestones of the bauxite are represented by the massive limestones (Unit-2) starting locally with either the upper Cenomanian characterized mainly by the presence of Pseudolituonella reicheli or upper Campanian comprising mainly Murciella cuvillieri and Moncharmontia apenninica (BFA II). There is no field evidence of a discontinuity surface at the contact between the lower part of Unit-2, including BFA I, and the upper part of Unit-2, including BFA II. This contact is defined as a paraconformity indicating a stratigraphic gap from the Turonian to the early Campanian. The top of Unit-2 is truncated by another discontinuity surface associated with a minor bauxite deposit. The overlying Unit-3 is characterized by well-bedded, rudist-bearing limestones topped by laminated and dolomitized limestones organized in shallowing upward cycles. It is assigned to the upper Maastrichtian based on the presence of Rhapydionina liburnica (BFA III) and rudist assemblage. A third emersion period of the platform corresponds to the early Maastrichtian.  相似文献

Background and Aims Fumarioideae (20 genera, 593 species) is a clade of Papaveraceae (Ranunculales) characterized by flowers that are either disymmetric (i.e. two perpendicular planes of bilateral symmetry) or zygomorphic (i.e. one plane of bilateral symmetry). In contrast, the other subfamily of Papaveraceae, Papaveroideae (23 genera, 230 species), has actinomorphic flowers (i.e. more than two planes of symmetry). Understanding of the evolution of floral symmetry in this clade has so far been limited by the lack of a reliable phylogenetic framework. Pteridophyllum (one species) shares similarities with Fumarioideae but has actinomorphic flowers, and the relationships among Pteridophyllum, Papaveroideae and Fumarioideae have remained unclear. This study reassesses the evolution of floral symmetry in Papaveraceae based on new molecular phylogenetic analyses of the family.Methods Maximum likelihood, Bayesian and maximum parsimony phylogenetic analyses of Papaveraceae were conducted using six plastid markers and one nuclear marker, sampling Pteridophyllum, 18 (90 %) genera and 73 species of Fumarioideae, 11 (48 %) genera and 11 species of Papaveroideae, and a wide selection of outgroup taxa. Floral characters recorded from the literature were then optimized onto phylogenetic trees to reconstruct ancestral states using parsimony, maximum likelihood and reversible-jump Bayesian approaches.Key Results Pteridophyllum is not nested in Fumarioideae. Fumarioideae are monophyletic and Hypecoum (18 species) is the sister group of the remaining genera. Relationships within the core Fumarioideae are well resolved and supported. Dactylicapnos and all zygomorphic genera form a well-supported clade nested among disymmetric taxa.Conclusions Disymmetry of the corolla is a synapomorphy of Fumarioideae and is strongly correlated with changes in the androecium and differentiation of middle and inner tepal shape (basal spurs on middle tepals). Zygomorphy subsequently evolved from disymmetry either once (with a reversal in Dactylicapnos) or twice (Capnoides, other zygomorphic Fumarioideae) and appears to be correlated with the loss of one nectar spur.  相似文献
