Plant-dominated assemblage and invertebrates from the Lower Cenomanian of Jaunay-Clan,western France

Two fossil localities are reported on the “LGV SEA” railroad from the Lower Cenomanian of Jaunay-Clan (JC), near Poitiers, western France. The laminated mudstones yielded plant fossils including ferns (Cladophlebis, Osmundophyllum, Ruffordia goeppertii, Sphenopteris), conifers (Brachyphyllum, Dammarophyllum, Pagiophyllum), and terrestrial and aquatic freshwater angiosperms (Eucalyptolaurus depreii, Ploufolia). They are associated with a coleopteran insect that shows systematic affinities to the modern subfamily Chrysomelinae (Chrysomelidae). This assemblage suggests connections with arborescent vegetation growing in calm freshwater environment. Brackish to marine invertebrates also occur and include a dakoticancroid crab (Brachyura, Podotremata, Dakoticancroidea) and a few bivalves (Brachidontes). They suggest brackish episodes during pond sedimentation in a coastal environment. Lastly, vertebrates are represented by an isolated feather.     

Anatomical differentiation of isolated scales of amiiform fishes (Amiiformes,Actinopterygii) from the Early Cretaceous of Las Hoyas (Cuenca,Spain)

The scales of amiiform fishes are more different from each other than previously stated. The anatomy of the scales of the three amiiform taxa from the Early Cretaceous (Barremian) of Las Hoyas (Cuenca, Spain) is described in detail. The differences between them has allowed the segregation of isolated scales form the fossil record of this site into the three taxa, providing relatively large population samples that can be studied from a palaeobiological and palaeoecological point of view.     

Thyreophoran vertebrae from the Callovian (Middle Jurassic) of the Vaches Noires cliffs (Normandy,France), with remarks on the dinosaur assemblage from the Vaches Noires

Two associated incomplete thyreophoran dorsal vertebrae from the Callovian Marnes de Dives Formation of the Vaches Noires cliffs, on the Normandy coast, are referred to an indeterminate stegosaur that appears to be different from Lexovisaurus, previously reported from the Callovian of western France. These vertebrae are the first evidence of thyreophorans from the Vaches Noires and complement the dinosaur assemblage from this locality, which hitherto consisted of several theropod taxa and an indeterminate sauropod. The dinosaur record from the Vaches Noires is heavily dominated by theropods and this imbalance is difficult to explain. A possible explanation may be that the dinosaur sample from the Vaches Noires is too small to be statistically significant and representative of the original faunal assemblage from which it is derived.
