Reports of post-transfusion jaundice were analysed in four successive years from April 1, 1969 to April 1, 1973. Analysis showed a marked reduction in the number of cases reported during the two years of routine HBAg-testing of all blood donations as compared with the two years before this testing was instituted. The value of retrospective studies under present conditions of reporting is discussed.  相似文献

天童常绿阔叶树种栲树生殖个体大小及其生殖构件特征   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9  
对浙江天童木荷-栲树林内的常绿阔叶树种栲树(Castanopsis fargesii Franch.)的生殖个体大小、生殖构件的分布及其动态变化特征进行了研究。结果表明, 该地区栲树生殖个体的胸径在17~50 cm 间, 平均胸径为31. 2±8.0 cm, 平均年龄约36.3±6.6 年;林缘附近的生殖个体小于木荷-林内。相对稳定的群落和比较丰富的土壤养分条件有利于生殖枝数量和花序数量的增多。栲树生殖个体的数量在两年中变化较大, 部分栲树个体可以在连续年份中生殖。从枝系水平分析:在持续生殖的栲树个体上, 生殖枝数量有明显变化, 并非所有的生殖枝在两年中都可开花或结果, 保持连续生殖的枝系约占48.2%。栲树果序枝数量在连续年份有明显差异(p < 0.01), 而且果序枝上的幼蕾数、果实数量及结实率等都有明显差异(p < 0.05)。  相似文献

干旱胁迫对霸王水分生理特征及细胞膜透性的影响   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
以2年生霸王为试验材料,用盆栽人工控制土壤水分,研究不同梯度土壤水分条件对霸王水分生理特征、丙二醛含量和细胞膜相对透性的影响.结果表明,与充足供水对照(土壤重量含水量为23%)相比,在严重干旱胁迫(土壤含水量为3%)20 d和45 d时,霸王叶水势和叶片相对含水量分别显著降低70.87%和45.54%、26.81%和12.66%;相应的叶片MDA含量和细胞膜相对透性分别显著增加33.81%和21.78%、17.51%和14.98%;严重干旱胁迫30 d使得霸王叶片保水力显著下降;同时随着土壤干旱胁迫程度的增强,霸王日蒸腾耗水量持续下降,且严重干旱胁迫处理的蒸腾耗水量日变化为水平直线型,其余处理均为单峰型.研究发现,严重干旱胁迫下随着胁迫时间的延长,霸王叶水势和叶片相对含水量有增加趋势,而叶片MDA含量和细胞膜相对透性则有减小趋势,它能够通过自身的调节机制,逐渐改善叶片水分状况,降低细胞膜伤害程度,从而适应严重干旱环境.  相似文献

在田间自然条件下,通过两年两季单独种植(非竞争)和混合种植(竞争)试验,分析比较抗真菌转基因水稻E121-2-1和E122-2-9与其非转基因受体亲本E32和常规稻粤香占在农艺性状、繁殖能力、花粉活力、种子活力、种子库持久力和自生性等适合度成分上的差异,评价抗真菌转基因水稻的生态适合度。结果表明,在竞争情形下,E121-2-1和E122-2-9的株高、千粒重和每穗总粒数在两年均显著降低或在其中一年显著降低,E121-2-1和E122-2-9农艺性状的竞争能力总体上低于E32和粤香占。E121-2-1和E122-2-9的净替代率在竞争态势下两年均呈下降趋势,其中E121-2-1在其中一年下降显著,而E32和粤香占的净替代率随不同年份升高或下降,但变化不显著。E121-2-1和E122-2-9的花粉萌发率、种子发芽势两年均显著低于E32和粤香占,种子发芽率和田间自生苗率在其中一年显著低于E32和粤香占,种子库持久力与E32和粤香占相比两年均无显著差异。只有E121-2-1和E122-2-9种子的休眠期两年均显著高于对照E32和粤香占。结果说明转四价抗真菌基因水稻E121-2-1和E122-2-9的生态适合度优势不强,其种群在自然界中的生存竞争和延续能力不会超越非转基因水稻。  相似文献

Compared with other African apes, eastern gorillas (Gorilla beringei) have been little studied genetically. We used analysis of autosomal DNA genotypes obtained from non-invasively collected faecal samples to estimate the evolutionary histories of the two extant mountain gorilla populations and the closely related eastern lowland gorillas. Our results suggest that eastern lowland gorillas and mountain gorillas split beginning some 10 000 years ago, followed 5000 years ago by the split of the two mountain gorilla populations of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Virungas Massif. All three populations have decreased in effective population size, with particularly substantial 10-fold decreases for the mountain gorillas. These dynamics probably reflect responses to habitat changes resulting from climate fluctuations over the past 20 000 years as well as increasing human influence in this densely populated region in the last several thousand years.  相似文献

Genetic evidence for a recent origin by hybridization of red wolves   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Genetic data suggest that red wolves ( Canis rufus ) resulted from a hybridization between coyotes ( C. latrans ) and grey wolves ( C. lupus ). The date of the hybridization, however, is uncertain. According to one hypothesis, the two species came into contact as coyotes increased their geographical range in conjunction with the advance of European settlers and as grey wolves were extirpated from the American south. Alternatively, the red wolves could have originated tens of thousands of years ago as a result of climate and habitat changes that disturbed the ecology of the two parent species. To obtain an upper limit on the date of hybridization that would help to distinguish the two scenarios, we compared microsatellite allele length distributions from red wolves, coyotes and grey wolves. Subject to the assumptions of our analysis, we conclude that the red wolves originated as a result of hybridizations that occurred during the past 12 800 years, and probably during the past 2500 years.  相似文献

Increase in temperature and decrease in precipitation pose a major future challenge for sustainable ecosystem management in Romania. To understand ecosystem response and the wider social consequences of environmental change, we constructed a 396-year long (1615–2010) drought sensitive tree-ring width chronology (TRW) of Pinus nigra var. banatica (Georg. et Ion.) growing on steep slopes and shallow organic soil. We established a statistical relationship between TRW and two meteorological parameters—monthly sum of precipitation (PP) and standardised precipitation index (SPI). PP and SPI correlate significantly with TRW (r?=?0.54 and 0.58) and are stable in time. Rigorous statistical tests, which measure the accuracy and prediction ability of the model, were all significant. SPI was eventually reconstructed back to 1688, with extreme dry and wet years identified using the percentile method. By means of reconstruction, we identified two so far unknown extremely dry years in Romania—1725 and 1782. Those 2 years are almost as dry as 1946, which was known as the “year of great famine.” Since no historical documents for these 2 years were available in local archives, we compared the results with those from neighbouring countries and discovered that both years were extremely dry in the wider region (Slovakia, Hungary, Anatolia, Syria, and Turkey). While the 1800–1900 period was relatively mild, with only two moderately extreme years as far as weather is concerned, the 1900–2009 period was highly salient owing to the very high number of wet and dry extremes—five extremely wet and three extremely dry events (one of them in 1946) were identified.  相似文献

The human lineage has a very ancient origin, as most of the mammals. Its oldest representatives, anthropoid primates, have been described from Asia some 45 million years ago. During this long evolutionary story, two critical stages have appeared as especially important, their beginning in Asia and the emergence of hominids in Africa, some seven million years ago. These two stages are discussed hereby with new data relative to their Asian origins and their dispersal into Africa between 45 and 40 million years ago. Following this dispersal event, these primates evolved in Africa and gave rise to the early hominids. These appeared around seven million years ago and have three distinct representatives. Among them, Toumaï appears as the oldest and the closest to our ancestry, a point that is evidenced here.  相似文献

Synopsis Biotic interactions, such as competition and predation, and abiotic events, such as floods, both have important consequences for organisms inhabiting warmwater streams. Empirical studies can lead to better understanding of how these factors interact to affect distinct life history intervals of stream fishes. Survival of eggs, embryos and larvae in nests of longear sunfishLepomis megalotis was monitored in a section of Jordan Creek for four years. During two years characterized by low, relatively stable flow, nest failures could be attributed to biotic interactions. During two years with more variable flow, most brood losses occurred during floods. Flooding led to nest desertion and loss of offspring regardless of nest location. The number of nests constructed tended to be lower during years with more variable flow. The proportion of nests with successful broods did not differ between colonial and solitary nests. Variation in flow regime modifies the importance of biotic effects on survival of early life history intervals of longear sunfish.  相似文献

目的:探讨肺炎患儿血清维生素D及微量元素监测的临床意义。方法:选取我院2015年1月-2016年1月收治的600例肺炎患儿为观察组及同期来我院体检的健康儿童400例为对照组,检测两组受试儿童的维生素D、铁、锌、钙、铜、镁水平。结果:观察组患儿锌、铁缺乏比例均明显高于健康儿童(P0.05),两组钙、铜、镁缺乏比例相比差异无统计学意义(P0.05)。观察组1岁以下(包括1岁,婴儿期)、1-3岁(包括3岁,幼儿期)、3-6岁(包括6岁,学龄前)患儿体内锌、铁含量明显低于同年龄段健康儿童(P0.05),各组钙、铜、镁含量相比差异无统计学意义(P0.05)。两组受试儿童体内25-羟基维生素D含量及其缺乏情况相比差异均无统计学意义(P0.05)。结论:锌和铁缺乏可能与儿童肺炎的发生发展具有一定的关系,及时补充锌和铁有助于提高患儿免疫力,促进患儿恢复。  相似文献

In 2011, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) and Tsinghua University formed a partnership to further the education of Tsinghua medical students. These students come to UPSOM as visiting research scholars for two years of their eight-year MD curriculum. During this time, the students, who have completed four years at Tsinghua, work full-time in medical school laboratories and research programs of their choice, essentially functioning as graduate students. In their first two months in Pittsburgh, the scholars have a one-week orientation to biomedical research, followed by two-week rotations in four labs selected on the basis of the scholars’ scientific interests, after which they choose one of these labs for the remainder of the two years. Selected labs may be in basic science departments, basic science divisions of clinical departments, or specialized centers that focus on approaches like simulation and modeling. The Tsinghua students also have a brief exposure to clinical medicine. UPSOM has also formed a similar partnership with Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine in Changsha, Hunan Province. The Xiangya students come to UPSOM for two years of research training after their sixth year and, thus, unlike the Tsinghua students, have already completed their clinical rotations. UPSOM faculty members have also paved the way for UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), UPSOM’s clinical partner, to engage with clinical centers in China. Major relationships involving advisory, training, managerial, and/or equity roles exist with Xiangya International Medical Center, KingMED Diagnostics, First Chengmei Medical Industry Group, and Macare Women’s Hospital. Both UPSOM and UPMC are actively exploring other clinical and academic opportunities in China.  相似文献

Low levels of testicular estrogen synthesis have been reported in a number of species, but the cellular localization has not been unequivocally established. To study aromatase in the human testis, we have combined immunocytochemistry with direct measurement of enzyme activity in the testicular 6μm cryosections. Thus, the functionality of the immunoreaction and its sensitivity can be assessed in quantitative terms. Testes were obtained from immediate autopsy from men aged 18–53 years, from surgery from two patients with prostatic cancer (67 and 74 years) and from two normal children aged 8 months and 3 years at autopsy. Benign testicular sex cord tumors were also examined from two unrelated patients aged 5 and 8 years with gynecomastia and diagnosed with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. Our results consistently showed low to moderate staining intensity of immunoreactive aromatase in comparison to that of normal human placental cryosections. Immunoreactive aromatase was only present in the interstitial Leydig cells and absent from the Sertoli cells of all normal adult testes showing spermatogenesis. Aromatase activity correlated well with the intensity of the immunostain. However, there was no obvious relationship between the level of aromatase activity and increasing age. Generally higher levels were present in testes of young men (18–22 years). No immunostain in any cell type was detected in one 33-year-old patient with testicular cancer. In the testes of the two normal prepubertal boys, no immunostaining was observed. However, intensely stained Sertoli cells as well as high aromatase activity were observed in the testicular tumors of the patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. Our results suggest that Leydig cells are the source of aromatase in normal men but that Sertoli cells may express this enzyme under abnormal conditions. The combined methods for measuring enzyme activity and immunoreactive aromatase are suitable for application to tissues expressing low levels of aromatase.  相似文献

During the first 12 months of a total population survey 249 patients were seen with viral hepatitis. A total of 215 of these were tested for hepatitis B antigen (HB Ag) by radioimmunoassay and 32 (15%) were positive.More than five times as many men (27) as women (5) were HBAg positive and 19 of the men were between the ages of 20 and 39 years. There were only four drug addicts among those tested, two of whom were positive, as were two of the four patients who were tattooed.Sixty out of 86 children (under 15 years) were tested for HBAg and none was positive.  相似文献

A considerable number of studies has been conducted on switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) as a bioresource for energy over the last few years. Nonetheless, some important issues concerning the agro-technique are still open. This research examines the long-term total dry matter yield (TDM) and ash content of two lowland (L) and two upland (U) switchgrass cytotypes, as affected by one or two-cut system, under southern EU climatic conditions (44 degrees 33' N). Overall, L produced higher TDM than U (on average 14.9 and 11.7 Mg ha(-1), respectively); two-cut system allowed to produce higher biomass yields (especially in U) than single harvest during the two first years, but it also drastically reduced plant vigour and productivity of all cytotypes in the following two years. Moreover, under two-cut system almost total seasonal biomass derived from the early harvest, while the second cut slightly contributed to the total seasonal biomass, nor it appeared to offset the additional harvest costs. Biomass quality was also significantly affected by cutting frequency, with two-cut system leading to a considerably higher ash content of biomass. Therefore, it is perceived that two-cut system is not worthwhile with U and L cytotypes as bioresource for energy production under southern EU conditions.  相似文献

Age-related maculopathy (ARM) is one of the leading causes of central visual acuity loss in older western population. Many factors are responsible for the fast development of ARM. One of this is significant increases of optical radiations through artificial lens after removal of the catarctous lens. The aim of this study was to compare progression of ARM in phakic and pseudophakic patients and to calculate the possibility ofpseudophakia as a risk factor for faster progression of ARM. Medical records of 76 patients, older than 60 years (32 male and 44 female) with early forms of ARM were randomly evaluated. They had undergone cataract removal by phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation from January 2002 to December 2006 at the Department of Ophthalmology, Rijeka University Hospital, Croatia. Patients were examined two weeks after the surgery and followed up for two years. The control group consisted of 48 patients (21 males and 27 females) with also early forms of ARM, older than 60 years, examined at the Policlinic Department from January 2006 to December 2006 and followed up at least for two years without any cataract surgery. Comparing progression of ARM in these two groups, a total of 19 patients (25%) in pseudophakic group showed progression to late forms of ARM, but only 6 patients (12.5 %) in the control group developed these aggressive ARM forms. More aggressive forms of ARM in pseudophakic group indicate that pseudophakia should be considered as a risk factor for development of ARM.  相似文献

The effect of task duration on odor discrimination in aging was studied. Twenty-seven young male adults and 24 young female adults between 18 and 30 years of age, and 17 older male adults between 45 and 65 years of age completed an odor discrimination task. The odor discrimination task consisted of two parts of 16 trials each in which, from three bottles consisting of two identical and one aberrant odor, the aberrant odor had to be identified. The two parts were identical except that the aberrant odor was interchanged with the identical odors in the second as compared with the first part. Results revealed a decrease in odor discrimination with age. Moreover, with increased task duration odor discrimination performance decreased considerably in older male adults while it remained unchanged in young male adults. In addition, in young adults a small advantage in females as compared with males was found in the first part of the odor discrimination task, but this effect disappeared with increased task duration. In conclusion, task duration should be taken into consideration as a factor influencing odor discrimination in aging.  相似文献

BackgroundWith the increasing use of anti-TNF therapy in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a shift of costs has been observed with medication costs replacing hospitalization and surgery as major cost driver. We aimed to explore the evolution of IBD-related costs over two years of follow-up.ConclusionsBD-related costs remained stable over two years. However, the proportion of anti-TNF-related healthcare costs increased, while hospitalization costs decreased. BackgroundYoung women with breast cancer (BC) are not represented in the trials on hypofractionation. In this study we compared outcomes in young patients with BC to their older counterparts treated with hypofractionated radiotherapy (RT) in a regional cancer centre in India.Materials and methodsBetween January 1990 to December 2010, women with BC, treated with hypofractionated RT dose of 35–40 Gy/15#/3 weeks were divided into two groups, ≤ 35 years and > 35 years. Outcomes compared were locoregional recurrence rate (LRR), locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS), disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS) and toxicities. LRRFS, DFS and OS were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method.ResultsOf total 2244 patients, 359 were ≤ 35 years of age and 1885 were > 35 years. Patient and disease characteristics were comparable between the two groups, except that comorbidities were significantly higher in the > 35 years age group, more patients aged ≤ 35 years had nodal N3 disease, received chemotherapy and RT to internal mammary nodes and more patients in the > 35 years group received hormonal therapy. Median follow up was 10 years (range 1–30 years). LRR and distant metastases were comparable between the two groups. However, synchronous LRR and distant metastases were significantly higher in the ≤ 35 years group 18 (5.1%) as compared to the > 35 years group 39 (2.1%) with p = 0.018. Estimated 10-year LRRFS, DFS and OS were 92% vs. 94% (p = 0.95), 68% vs. 73%(p = 0.058) and 78% vs. 76% (p = 0.10) in ≤ 35 years and > 35 years, respectively. OS for stage 1 was comparable between the two groups. However, for stage 2 and 3 it was 77% vs. 82% (p = 0.048) and 53% vs. 62% (p = 0.045) in the ≤ 35 years and > 35 years group, respectively. Acute and late toxicity were similar in the two groups.ConclusionYoung BC patients had higher LRR and distant metastases. LRRFS, DFS and toxicities were comparable between the two groups. However, OS was poorer in young BC patients with stage 2 and 3 disease.  相似文献

In this two-year study of a Barbary macaque population (n = 162) in the Ghomaran region of Morocco, 13 cases of males separated from their assumed natal groups were observed (nine visits of nonresident males to groups, two males isolated from groups as much as one day and one night, and two sets of snow tracks indicating males travel +7 km as isolates). Males left their assumed natal groups primarily in the mating season (12 cases), focused their interactions on estrous females of other groups, and were observed to copulate with these females in two cases. All males leaving their assumed natal groups were estimated to be between 5 and 8 years of age, with one exception (+ 15 years). It could not be determined whether males younger than 5 years moved between groups, or whether any males made permanent intergroup transfers. Regardless, the data from this study indicate that male intergroup mobility (and intergroup gene flow) was higher than has been previously assumed for this species. A prior theory that Barbary macaque groups are highly inbred, and that this is causally related to the evolution of male-infant care in this species, is not supported by the data of this study.  相似文献

The wound infection rates, nasal carriage rates, and nasal colonization rates were studied in a recently built surgical unit for two years when it was first opened. Five years later a further two-year period of study was undertaken.Judging by the incidence of postoperative wound infection, as far as both Staphylococcus pyogenes and Gram-negative organisms are concerned, there is no evidence that the environment has become less safe with use over the seven-year period since opening.  相似文献
