Summary In the mealy bug, Planococcus citri, following high dosage paternal irradiation (60,000–120,000 rep), the survivors are mostly female (about 30–40% of the unirradiated control value) whereas very few males survive (about 5% of control value). After lower doses of paternal irradiation (P. I.), however, few or no females survive while the normal number of males (never less than the control value) survive.The females developing after high dosage P. I. are gynogenetic and are triploid or diploid or 3N/2N or 2N/N mosaics (Chandra 1963).The cytology of X1 embryos following 90,000 rep is described in this report, in comparison with data from embryos following lower doses (8,000 r) of P. I. and unirradiated controls, to illustrate the chromosomal mechanisms leading to the production of gynogenetic females and the probable reasons for lethality of X1 males after heavy P. I.It has been shown that triploid females stem from a fusion nucleus of the first and second polar bodies. This triploid polar nucleus, which normally participates in the formation of a polyploid sector in the young embryo, undertakes a successful embryogeny in many embryos when the zygote nucleus is unable to do so because of the heavily damaged paternal complement of chromosomes. Since the chromosomes are characterized by holokinetic activity, the irradiated paternal set manages to divide with the maternal complement but did not always segregate as successfully. Restitution divisions of the zygotic nuclei result in haploid, hyperhaploid, diploid and polyploid nuclei. Physical efficiency of mice and rats at early times following irradiation with doses of 35 to 200 Gy was estimated by the muscle endurance and motor coordination indices. A threshold nature of the effects was exhibited at high doses. For instance, as large as 40 Gy was the dose threshold at which stability in the accomplishment of the known operations was impaired; at 70-100 Gy, the accomplishment decreased down to 50% of the initial level, by the 2nd hour after irradiation, with the subsequent partial restoration; 200 Gy was the threshold dose at which the disturbances were irreversible. These values were also similar to those of the threshold doses at which clinical picture of the affection was changed.  相似文献

Pulmonary haemodynamics and the histology of the pulmonary vasculature have been studied at high altitude in the yak, in interbreeds between yaks and cattle, and in domestic goats and sheep indigenous to high altitudes together with crosses between them and low-altitude strains. Cattle at high altitude had a higher pulmonary arterial pressure than cattle at low altitude. The yak and two interbreeds with cattle (dzos and stols) had a low pulmonary arterial pressure compared with cattle, while the medial thickness of the small pulmonary arteries was less than would be expected in cattle, suggesting that the yak has a low capacity for hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and that this characteristic is transmitted genetically. Goats and sheep showed haemodynamic evidence of a limited response of the pulmonary circulation to high altitude, but no evidence that the high altitude breeds had lost this response. There were no measurable differences in the thickness of the media of the small pulmonary arteries between high- and low-altitude breeds of goats and sheep. All these species showed prominent intimal protrusions of muscle into the pulmonary veins but no specific effect of high altitude in this respect.  相似文献

With radiation doses of 10 and 150 Gy morphine does not change the arterial tension and the pressor nociceptive reactions of rats. Clopheline delivered in an analgesic dose invokes a pressor reaction of the haemodynamics after irradiation with a dose of 10 Gy, but it is ineffective after superlethal doses.  相似文献

Literature and our own data on structural and functional state of neocortex and hippocampus during both entrance in hibernation of ground squirrel (Spermophilus undulates) and Wistar rats in hypothermia were generalized. During hibernation when body temperature is about 2-4 degrees C the suppression of both bioelectrical and protein-synthesizing activity, the decrease of neuronal cell bodies and the branching of dendrites, retraction of dendritic spines, and a decrease of postsynaptic active zones of synapses were observed. Similar changes in those parameters were triggered for rats during hypoxia-hypercapnia at body temperature 17-19 degrees C. Hypoxia-hypercapnia facilitates the entrance in torpid state for hole animals. Nonhibernating animals during cooling and hypoxia-hypercapnia trigger functioning some mechanisms similar hibernators during entrance in hibernation. Similar morphological and functional changes for both hibernators and nonhibernators at low temperature state show similarity of mechanisms which induce a low level of brain activity of different animals.  相似文献

The effects of external acute irradiation at dose 1.0 Gy on biologic, haematologic and metabolic changes in blood of alloxan-induced diabetic rats were studied. It was found that the deterioration of diabetic animals occurs in different terms after irradiation exposure, resulting in considerable body weight decrease, well-marked hyperglycemia, abrupt falling of leukocytic system parameters, intensification energetic processes of extant lymphocytes, imbalance of lipid metabolism and thyroid state, as well as significant inhibition of 5'-deiodinase activity in liver tissue.  相似文献

1. Slices of mouse brain grey matter were incubated with [32P]phosphate and [1-14C]acetate. Doubly labelled phospholipids were extracted from subcellular fractions prepared from the slices in a mixture of metabolic inhibitors, under conditions where there was negligible change in radioactive labelling during the preparation. Two tissue fractions were studied in detail; one contained a high proportion of mitochondria and the other was mainly microsomal. 2. In all tissue fractions the highest incorporations of both [32P]phosphate and [1-14C]acetate occurred into phosphatidylcholine. 3. After incubation for 1hr., the 32P/14C ratios for phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidic acid in the mitochondrial fraction were similar to those in the microsomal fraction. 4. The 32P/14C ratios were similar in phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine and much lower than those in phosphatidic acid and phosphatidylinositol.  相似文献

The study of early neurological disturbances (END) in rats after fractionated gamma irradiation with doses of 37.5-225 Gy at dose rate of 30.11 Gy/min has demonstrated that the initial response of animals to pulse ionizing radiation is a function of the electric charge induced by ionizing radiation. A change in the probability of occurrence of each of the END symptoms, with the increased intervals between exposures, is merely an indirect indication of the eliminating mechanisms and is intricately connected with the irritating charge value. The period of dose half-elimination in 16 min. The threshold effective dose rate leading to END is of the order of 2.12 Gy/min. The proposed empiric relationships permit to correlate the probability of END symptom occurrence with the continuous quantitative parameter of fractionated irradiation, that is, with an effective dose as an analogue of the irritating effect.  相似文献

Physical fitness of irradiated (20-200 Gy) mice and rats was estimated by the method of repeated swimming at a fixed distance. Revealed was the reduction adequacy of the two indices, that is the starting time and the fatigue coefficient, the latter being changed more considerably. The dose of 80-100 Gy determined the threshold of the cerebral damage and caused an irreversible decrease in the physical fitness of rodents. The role of exposure of the head in the impairment of the physical fitness of rats has been confirmed by the experiments with some body parts being shielded.  相似文献
