Environmental factors determining the spatial pattern of the whole siphonophore community, as well as the hydrological occurrence ranges, small-scale vertical distribution, and spatial niche breadth and overlap of 23 siphonophore species collected off a riverine system in the southern Gulf of Mexico were analysed. A total of 149 zooplankton samples were collected in different strata of the water column (from 0 to 100 m) over a grid of 23 oceanographic stations during low (April) and high (October) rainy periods. Temperature and salinity measurements were taken with a CTD probe. Considering both seasons, salinity fluctuated between 30.7 and 37.0, and temperature between 18.2 and 29.0°C. Under these conditions, the hydrological occurrence ranges of species were analysed. Data on siphonophore biovolumes in the upper 30-m layer were subjected to a regression tree (RT) analysis taking the zooplankton biomass, the distance to the shore, the temperature, and the salinity as predictable variables. Results of the RT analysis showed that the distance from the shore, food availability, and temperature were among the most important factors affecting siphonophore spatial distribution. Food availability had a positive influence on the siphonophores distribution, whereas temperatures higher than 28.1°C seemed to depress most siphonophore populations. Diphyes dispar moderately dominated the community and represented 30% of the total biovolume. The calycophorans Abylopsis tetragona, A. eschscholtzi, Diphyes bojani, and Chelophyes appendiculata were the most generalist species as revealed by their niche breadth values, and Enneagonum hyalinum endured the widest salinity conditions (30.7–37.0) and was mainly distributed in coastal waters. The second most abundant species, the physonect Agalma okeni, exhibited a low mean niche overlap value with the calycophoran species. We hypothesise that differences in diet composition between physonects and calycophorans are the main cause of those low niche overlap values.  相似文献

The seasonal abundance and vertical distribution patterns ofa group of small calycophoran siphonophores (principally Chuniphyesmultidentata and Lensia conoidea) were investigated using aremotely operated vehicle (ROV) deployed in Monterey Bay, California.Abundance was assessed along 295 horizontal transects coveringa depth range of 100–1000 m over a three and a half yearperiod. The vertical distribution of the study animals changedseasonally, coupled to the onset and cessation of upwellingin the bay. While numerical abundance peaked after upwelling,there was no significant difference between seasons. The siphonophoreswere more broadly distributed over the depth range sampled duringthe upwelling or Shallow Mixed Layer (SML) period, than duringthe non-upwelling or Deep Mixed Layer (DML) period. There wereno significant differences in abundance or distribution patternsbetween years except in 1993, when there were significantlymore siphonophores observed during the SML period than duringthe DML period. This may reflect effects resulting from the1992–1993 El Niño event. The abundance of thesesiphonophores was negatively correlated with that of Nanomiabijuga, a physonect siphonophore of similar size and feedingbehavior found in the bay. The siphonophores studied here appearfrom preliminary data to migrate vertically, possibly with twoseparately migrating groups.  相似文献

根据2015—2016年在福建北部近海水域(120.10°E—120.65°E, 26.35°N—27.07°N)夏、秋、冬、春4个季节的海洋生态调查资料, 探讨了该水域浮游动物的数量分布、季节变化及其与水团变化的关系。结果表明, 调查水域浮游动物的平均生物量依次是: 夏季(479.51 mg/m3)>秋季(257.37 mg/m3)>春季(241.86 mg/m3)>冬季(84.05 mg/m3), 平均丰度依次是: 夏季(156.36 ind./m3)>春季(91.57 ind./m3)>秋季(40.34 ind./m3)>冬季(21.82 ind./m3), 生物量和丰度均值都呈现出夏季、秋季到冬季依次减少, 春季增多的趋势, 不同的是秋季生物量均值高于春季, 而丰度均值低于春季。在夏、冬和春三季, 浮游动物的总生物量和总丰度的分布总体较为一致; 而在秋季, 浮游动物的总生物量和总丰度的分布几乎相反。百陶箭虫(Sagitta bedoti)和微剌哲水蚤(Canthocalanus pauper)是影响夏季总丰度分布最主要的种类; 链钟水母(Desmophyes annectens)是影响秋季总丰度分布最主要的种类; 驼背隆哲水蚤(Acrocalanus gibber)、亚强真哲水蚤(Eucalanus subcrassus)和百陶箭虫对冬季总丰度的分布起到了重要影响; 五角水母(Muggiaea atlantica)和微剌哲水蚤是春季占总丰度比例较高的种类。浮游动物数量各季不同分布模式的根本原因是台湾暖流和浙闽沿岸流水团的季节性变化所致。研究结果不仅对了解与评价区域海洋生态系统动态和生物多样性变化具有重要的理论意义, 而且还可以丰富我国近海水域浮游动物的生态特征与水团变化之间的关系。  相似文献

In the framework of the Dutch Mauritania Expedition 1988, zooplankton was sampled in the beginning of the spring upwelling season at 44 stations along the Banc d'Arguin, Mauritania. Distribution patterns of oceanic and neritic copepod species and especially of the upwelling indicator Calanoides carinatus (Kröyer) were analysed in search for direct proof of circulation of ocean upwelling water over the inshore banks. The vertical temperature distribution at the stations pointed to upwelling in two different parts of the shelf area. According to the copepod data the two upwellings were of a different nature. A restricted area at the shelf edge near Cap Timiris appeared to represent a relatively stable coastal upwelling situation. Upwelled water present near Cap Blanc was found to have traveled quite recently over a considerable part of the shelf. In the central area between the two upwellings, Banc-water extended from the shelf into the ocean. The possible impact of the observed circulation of ocean water on productivity of the shelf benthic system is discussed.  相似文献

The seasonal and interannual trends in the distribution and abundance of jellyfish (Scyphozoa and Hydrozoa) in the epipelagic and mesopelagic areas of the Sea of Okhotsk during 1992–2005 were examined on the basis of trawl survey data. The area of occurrence, biomass, and the numbers of Scyphozoa in the epipelagic layer were the smallest in spring; in summer and fall their abundance sharply increased and then decreased in winter. In contrast to the epipelagic zone, the numbers of scyphomedusae in the mesopelagic layer were significantly lower in the summer than in the winter and spring. This probably indicates that a part of scyphomedusae winter in the mesopelagic. Hydrozoa in both the epi- and mesopelagic areas were more numerous in the winter and spring. Jellyfish biomass and abundance greatly changed from year to year. Thus, in fall the biomass of scyphomedusae and hydromedusae in the epipelagic zone varied from 166 to 1271 and from 6 to 49 kg/km2, respectively.  相似文献

The temporal distribution and abundance of penaeid prawn larvae in surface waters of Tudor creek were studied. Only late mysis and early post mysis stages of development were encountered in the creek waters with a descending gradient from the mouth station (station 1) to the innermost station 5. Larval encounter incidence (% incidence) was highest in plankton tows taken during night spring tides (59%) followed by night neap tides (45.4%), day spring tides (34.9%) and day neap tides (21.4%). This encounter incidence was more skewed towards the seaward stations (1 and 2) during the neap tides than during spring tides. Likewise, larval density (mean catch/standard 5 min. tow) decreased less steeply up the creek during spring tides than it did during neap tides. Higher catch rates were in general obtained in night samples than in day samples at each station and in each neap/spring phase. The diel cycle had a greater effect on both incidence and abundance of larvae than did the tidal cycle.Intensified larval incursion into the creek was observed between March and June.  相似文献

根据2009—2010年在福建中部近海24°55'—25°13'N、119°11'—119°32'E水域冬、春、夏3个季节的调查资料,探讨了该水域浮游动物总丰度与生物量的平面分布、季节变化及其与台湾海峡水团变化的关系。结果表明,调查水域浮游动物的数量在冬、春之交变化较大,而在春、夏季变化较小。浮游动物冬、春两季的平均丰度分别为8.90 个/m3和245.65 个/m3,夏季为236.82 个/m3。冬、春两季,该水域浮游动物的分布特征相近。其数量在近岸较高,向外侧水域逐渐降低。冬季浮游动物的丰度最高为31.56 个/m3,春季最高达到831.67 个/m3。中华哲水蚤(Calanus sinicus)是冬、春季影响总丰度变化最主要的种类。与冬、春季不同,夏季浮游动物的数量在离岸水域较高,丰度最高达1053.13 个/m3,而在近岸较低,最低值仅19.17 个/m3。汉森莹虾(Lucifer hanseni)、双生水母(Diphyes chamissonis)是影响总丰度变化最主要的种类。浮游动物在各季的不同分布特征与台湾海峡的季节性水团变化有关。受季风转换影响,从冬季到夏季,海峡内沿岸流势力逐渐减弱,台湾暖流水势力逐渐增强,并影响到沿岸的水文环境。这导致调查水域内浮游动物的优势种类由暖温种向暖水种演替。由于冬、春季的重要优势种类中华哲水蚤与夏季的汉森莹虾、双生水母具有不同的温度适应性,受不同性质水团的影响,在近岸和离岸水域各自呈现出不同的数量高低。从而进一步影响到各季浮游动物总数量的分布。  相似文献

During spring and autumn 1970 and 1971 the movements of terns off the coast of Ghana near Accra were studied by radar. In autumn, dense movements were recorded within 22 km of the coast both day and night from July to early December. Fluctuations in the magnitude of the movements suggest that the terns were on passage through the Gulf of Guinea. Simultaneous to these movements were roosting flights into shore roosts and both movements appeared independent.
In contrast, no spring movements along the coastline were detected either by radar or visually from the land. Although small tern flocks probably moved westwards within 22 km of the coast, but outside their detectable radar range, the results suggest that the majority of terns return through the Gulf of Guinea by a different route from that taken in autumn.
The difference between spring and autumn movements correlates well with the seasonal variation of the terns' food sources. In autumn, upwellings result in an abundant fish supply (sardines) in the surface waters close to land, whereas in spring, fish is abundant only well off shore such as at fronts (convergences) and upwellings (divergences) both of which have been located as far as 600 km from the coast.  相似文献

The annual cycle of abundance for the calanoid copepod Metridialucens and its interannual variability are described from 17611 samples collected on 193 broad-scale plankton surveys ofthe US northeast continental shelf region from 1977 to 1999.The copepod’s seasonal distribution is illustrated withbi-monthly geographic abundance plots. Abundance of M. lucensis compared with various environmental variables, abundanceof the copepod Calanus finmarchicus, density of potential predatorsand the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) index. Metridia lucensabundance increased throughout the ecosystem during spring warmingand usually reached peak levels in late spring. The highestmean densities were measured in the Gulf of Maine (GOM), wherethe copepod is usually found year round and exhibits a weak,decreasing west to east abundance gradient. The less dense populationslocated on Georges Bank and within the Middle Atlantic Bightare characterized by year-round onshore to offshore gradientsthat strengthen during the summer months when the copepod concentratesoffshore where there is a cool layer of subthermocline water,the region often referred to as the cold pool. Interannual variabilityin abundance showed two persistent periods: above average valuesfrom 1979 to 1982, followed by very low levels from 1983 toat least 1987. Metridia lucens abundance in the 1990s has usuallybeen at or above time series means. None of the environmentalvariables measured during the surveys could be correlated tothis variability. The copepod’s abundance in the GOM wasnot related to variation in the NAO index or to changes in predatorabundance found in the region. The seasonal abundance cycleand interannual variability of M. lucens in the GOM were foundto be very similar to those found for the dominant copepod,Calanus finmarchicus. We studied the temporal patterns of macroinfaunal distribution in the estuarine portion of Pando Stream, Uruguay. We found a very low number of species and a high dominance of the polychaete Heteromastus similis. There were clear seasonal patterns in abundance with almost all species peaking in autumn, coinciding with the periods of higher salinity. Minimal values were found in winter and spring when salinity was at a minimum. We suggest that the seasonal pattern is a consequence of the combined effects of recruitment, and of high osmotic stress and disturbance during the periods of freshwater discharge that are common in winter and spring.  相似文献

It is recovered, that full engorged females of Ixodes persulcatus lay average of 25,250 eggs per 1 ha during the season in the test area. It produces 13,750 larvae. The abundance of hungry larvae is reduced up to 12,500 during the winter period. 11,643 larvae become engorged. The total abundance of hungry nymphs counts: 10,933 in autumn, and 9895 in spring. The total abundance of hungry adults, half of which is represented by females, makes 1774 in autumn, and 1084 in spring. About 10 females found their hosts and became successfully engorged.  相似文献

Siphonophores are exclusively marine cnidaria and their predatory role in plankton food-webs is well recognised. In this study, we analyse the structure and the spatial extent of siphonophore assemblages in relation to changes in freshwater outflows and food availability in the southern Gulf of Mexico during a high (October) and a low (April) outflow periods. A total of 149 samples were collected using a 505 μm multiple closing net at 1–6 levels (0–100 m) of the water column, depending on the bathymetry. Data on siphonophore species biovolumes (ml 100 m−3) were treated by means of the Bray-Curtis Dissimilarity Index, and two distinctive assemblages were identified: the ‘inner’ and the ‘outer’ assemblages, located over the inner and outer shelves. Temperature, salinity, zooplankton biomass, and siphonophore species were included in a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to identify the factors associated with each assemblage. Geographical distribution of the assemblages practically remained the same during both seasons and its cross-shelf variability was stronger than the vertical one. Seasonally, diversity values were higher in October, when the highest river discharges occur. Spatially, the lowest diversity and mean siphonophore biovolumes values were registered in the ‘inner assemblage’, where the highest and lowest salinity values were recorded. We suggest that even when extreme salinity values (>36.5 or <34) might depress siphonophore populations in the coastal area, enough food availability in the concerned areas might mitigate the negative effect of salinity, since a positive and significant (p < 0.05) relationship was found between siphonophores biovolume and zooplankton biomass. Bassia bassensis, Diphyes dispar and Enneanogum hyalinum, present in both assemblages during both seasons, were able to survive in a wide range of salinity values, following perhaps, their prey. All the 23 species here registered were found in the ‘outer assemblage’; however, Abylopsis eschscholtzi, Chelophyes appendiculata and Diphyes bojani were more associated with the ‘outer’ group according to the PCA results. Enneagonum hyalinum was the only species frequently encountered and abundant in the ‘inner assemblage’ during both seasons and, supporting previous observations, this species might be considered as an indicator of nearshore waters. Quasi-synoptic surveys along the east coast of Australia between 28 and 34°S show that the heterotrophic dinoflagellate, Noctiluca scintillans, occurs along this entire stretch of the coast. Areas of relatively high abundance of Noctiluca were observed downstream of regions predisposed to current-induced upwellings as a consequence of alongshore topographic variations. High-resolution temporal and spatial sampling of upwelling events showed that Noctiluca was abundant (up to 28 cells l?1) within mature upwelled waters. A high proportion (>80%) of fed Noctiluca cells (cells with prey in their vacuoles) was observed in the mature upwelled waters indicating that the observed increase in abundance of Noctiluca was associated with increased feeding activity. The absolute abundance of Noctiluca in upwelled waters was, however, found to vary from one upwelling location to another and between seasons. In particular, highest abundances of Noctiluca were recorded south of 31.5°S, where the East Australian Current (EAC) characteristically separates from the coast. The high abundances partly arise from southward advection and retention of the Noctiluca cells, and partly from upwelling inshore of the separated EAC driven by cross-shelf boundary layer fluxes. The temperature of the EAC was also found to influence absolute abundances. Surface water temperatures during our summer cruise were anomalously high due to a strong La Niña phase, and up to 4°C warmer than during our spring cruise. We found that the warmer surface water temperatures were associated with relatively lower average abundances of Noctiluca in the near shore zone.  相似文献

Hydrology and trophic relationships are frequently reported for inducing changes in mesozooplankton communities. This study investigated the distribution and abundance of mesozooplankton in the boundary waters between the East China Sea and the Taiwan Strait. Samples were collected using a NOR-PAC zooplankton net towed horizontally at a depth of 2 m, at eight stations along a transect, in March (spring) and October (autumn) 2005. The abundance of mesozooplankton was significantly higher during autumn than spring. Densities of many groups (e.g., Noctiluca scintillans, pteropods, copepods, mysids, euphausiids, and other larva) increased in October. During both seasons, copepods represented more than 50% of the total zooplankton abundance. Noctiluca scintillans, appendicularians, and Calanus sinicus were dominant in spring, indicating their association with the cold waters of the East China Coastal Current. Appendicularians and N. scintillans were mainly associated with the coastal waters of Taiwan; whereas C. sinicus was concentrated in the offshore waters along the coast of Mainland China. Chaetognaths, Temora turbinata, Acrocalanus spp., and radiolarians were dominant in autumn, showing their association with the warm waters of the Kuroshio Branch Current. Oncaea venusta was relatively abundant during both seasons. Our study shows that, in addition to the influence of seasonal changes in the water masses, the distribution and composition of mesozooplankton are highly influenced by trophic interactions between zooplankton taxa, in the boundary waters of the Taiwan Strait and the East China Sea.  相似文献

The distribution and abundance of sardine eggs in the Ria ofVigo (Galician coast, NW Spain) was studied monthly for threeannual cycles. Sardine eggs were most abundant during the winterand spring months, although the spawning peaks varied from yearto year. The greatest densities of eggs were found in Novemberand March during the 1979–1980 cycle but no autumn peakwas found in 1981,1982 or 1983. The number of eggs also variesgreatly in different years. The greatest densities of eggs werealways found in the outer area of the ria. The study of thevertical distribution of sardine eggs shows that they are concentratedabove the thermocline.  相似文献

Due to their global distribution, high biomass and energy content, euphausiids (krill) are important prey for many mid and upper trophic level marine organisms. Understanding drivers of krill habitat is essential for forecasting range shifts, and to better understand the response of krill predators to climate change. We hypothesized that the distribution and abundance of krill species derived from ecosystem surveys in spring/summer relates to geomorphic features, coastal upwelling during the preceding winter, and spring mesoscale oceanographic conditions. To test this hypothesis, we used boosted regression trees with environmental data and ocean model output to quantify the habitat associations of two primary krill species (Euphausia pacifica and Thysanoessa spinifera) in the central California Current Ecosystem from 2002 to 2018. Models confirmed the neritic distribution of T. spinifera and pelagic, outer slope association of E. pacifica (deviance explained ~35%). Distribution of these species were influenced by depth and bottom rugosity; chlorophyll-a concentrations and increased winter upwelling conditions; and spring surface currents and wind stress. Thysanoessa spinifera and E. pacifica abundance responded negatively (positively) to warm (cold) climate events, confirming known relationships. As an independent evaluation of krill models, observations of krill predator (seabirds, marine mammals) distribution indicated they were present within habitats of predicted high krill species abundance. Our framework indicates species-specific habitat relationships for these foundational forage species and their negative response to large-scale climate variations, such as El Niño and marine heatwave conditions. The approach can be easily transferred to other ecosystems or krill species that respond to similar ocean and climate forcing.  相似文献

为了解枸杞林地面节肢动物功能群结构季节分布特征,以宁夏绿洲枸杞林为研究对象,于2018年的春、夏、秋季节,采用陷阱诱捕法,调查了地面节肢动物功能群季节分布特征及其与环境因子之间的关系。结果显示:(1)枸杞林地面节肢动物功能群包括植食性、捕食性、腐食性和杂食性动物,个体数分别占6.31%、86.75%、2.01%和4.89%,其中以捕食性动物为主。(2)植食性地面节肢动物个体数和生物量表现为春季显著高于秋季,夏季居中;类群数表现为夏季显著高于秋季,春季居中。捕食性地面节肢动物生物量表现为夏季和秋季显著高于春季;个体数和类群数在不同季节间均无显著差异。腐食性地面节肢动物个体数、生物量和类群数在不同季节间均无显著差异。杂食性地面节肢动物个体数和类群数表现为春季显著高于夏季,秋季居中;生物量在不同季节间均无显著差异。(3)相关分析表明,捕食性地面节肢动物个体数与土壤含水量呈正相关关系,腐食性地面节肢动物个体数与土壤全磷呈正相关关系,杂食性地面节肢动物与土壤全氮呈正相关关系。但植食性地面节肢动物个体数则与土壤含水量呈负相关关系,杂食性地面节肢动物个体数与土壤温度和土壤全碳呈负相关关系。(4)pRDA分析表明,土壤含水量是影响地面节肢动物功能群结构季节分布的主要环境因子。结论:随着季节更替,宁夏干旱绿洲区枸杞林地面节肢动物的功能群组成差异较大,功能多样性差异较小。说明每个功能群的个体数和类群数对季节变化敏感,但功能多样性较稳定。  相似文献

利用2012年12月—2013年9月4个季度的现场调查资料研究了黄河口邻近海域浮游动物群落的时空分布特征。研究表明,黄河口邻近海域共鉴定出浮游动物70种,包括浮游幼虫19类。浮游动物优势种主要由夜光虫(Noctiluca scintillans)、小拟哲水蚤(Paracalanus parvus)、双刺纺锤水蚤(Acartia bifilosa)、拟长腹剑水蚤(Oithona similis)、强额拟哲水蚤(Paracalanus crassirostris)、近缘大眼剑水蚤(Corycaeus affinis)、强壮箭虫(Sagitta crassa)、双壳类幼体(Bivalvia larvae)、多毛类幼体(Polychaeta larvae)等种类。黄河口邻近海域浮游动物丰度夏季最高(60620个/m~3),春季(31228个/m~3)和秋季(21540个/m~3)次之,冬季最低(7594个/m~3)。不同季节浮游动物丰度的空间分布具有差异性,春季浮游动物丰度呈现出从近岸到外海降低的趋势;夏季浮游动物形成两个高丰度区,分别位于河口邻近海区和河口东部海区;秋季和冬季浮游动物丰度高值区均位于河口东部海区。浮游动物生物多样性指数均呈现从河口到外海升高的趋势,低值区位于黄河口入海口附近海区。相关性分析显示,黄河口邻近海域浮游动物丰度与海水温度显著正相关(r=0.212,P0.05),表明温度为影响黄河口邻近海域浮游动物丰度变化的主要因素。  相似文献

Basin-scale latitudinal patterns of copepod grazing in the Atlantic Ocean   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Size-fractionated copepod abundance and ingestion rates wereinvestigated along a 50°S–50°Nlatitudinal transect,during the Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) 4, 5 and 6 cruises(boreal spring–autumn 1997, boreal spring–summer1998). Copepod abundance was higher at high latitudes in spring,near northwest Africa, in the equatorial and Benguela upwellingsystems, and in the Subtropical Convergence, and lower in oligotrophicgyres. Gut contents were not related to phytoplankton biomassor production. Gut evacuation rate averaged 0.03 min-1, andwas not related to latitude or body size. Conservative estimatesof copepod community total ingestion rates ranged between 3.4and 173 mg C m-2 day-1 for AMT4, 1.6–252 mg C m-2 day-1in AMT5 and 10–160 mg C m-2 day-1 in AMT6. Maximum valueswere always in the upwelling regions, the subtropical convergenceand high latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere during borealspring. Calculated ingestion rates translate into average dailyminimal consumption values of 2.07%, 1.89% and 2.6% of totalchlorophyll stock, or 8.02%, 14.5% and 12.9% of total primaryproduction ingested daily on AMT4, 5 and 6 respectively. Grazingimpact increases considerably if we consider ingestion of phytoplanktonlarger than 2 µm, especially under the influence of theEquatorial and North African upwellings, where copepod ingestionrepresents up to 30% of the biomass and >100% of productionby large cells.  相似文献

据1959年和2002年在长江口29°00′~32°00′ N, 122°00′~123°30′ E海域四季调查资料,研究结合拟长脚丰度和同步水温资料进行曲线拟合、构造数学模型和计算最适温度.分析拟长脚(Parathemisto gaudichaudi)的生态类型、空间分布、数量动态以及对变暖趋势的响应.结果表明:长江口海域拟长脚平均丰度和出现率都表现为夏秋季较低和冬春季较高.1959年春季平均丰度最高,为1.8 ind/m3;1959年秋季平均丰度最低,为0.03 ind/m3.1959年春季出现率最高,为62.96%;1959年秋季出现率最低,为6.90%.长江口拟长脚在1959年春季丛生指标最大(7.12),在1959年秋季最小(-1.00).这说明该种春季在长江口海域有明显的集群性,秋季集群性则不明显.温度是影响拟长脚季节变化和年间变化的主要因素.长江口海域拟长脚丰度和同步温度资料曲线拟合结果符合Yield Density模型,最适温度是17.0 ℃,置信度分析和拟合统计结果均有非常高的置信度.综合拟长脚最适温度和季节变化特征,可认为该种是暖温种.近年来在春季长江口水域的拟长脚丰度有所降低,这种数量年间变化趋势应与全球气候变暖相关.该种可作为海洋变暖长期变化的指示种.  相似文献
