The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of different dietary sources of unsaturated fatty acids (fish oil (FO) and/or linseed oil (LO)) on laying performance, egg yolk fatty acid composition, ovarian follicular development, antioxidative properties, immune response and tibial bone characteristics in aged laying hens. A total of 100 Hisex Brown hens at 56 weeks of age were housed individually in laying cages in an open-sided building under a 16 h light:8 h dark lighting schedule. Hens were randomly divided into four experimental treatments (n=25 each). Birds were fed ad libitum diets containing 2.5% vegetable oil (C, control), 2.5% FO, 2.5% LO and a mixture of 1.25% LO+1.25% FO (LO+FO) from 56 to 68 weeks of age. Egg production, egg quality characteristics and yolk lipid profile were analyzed. At 68 weeks of age, ovarian follicles were classified and tibial bone characteristics were determined. Serum thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity and total antioxidant capacity were measured. Incorporation of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3PUFA) into the egg yolks has been successful by using dietary FO and/or LO. There were no significant effects of treatments on hen-day egg production, feed intake, egg weight, egg shape index, albumen height, Haugh units and yolk height. However, dietary FO and/or LO supplementation had a significantly positive effect on eggshell percentage, eggshell thickness and yolk color. At 68 weeks of age, there was no significant difference among dietary treatments for tibial bone measurements. Also, no negative effects were detected in ovarian follicular development and weights of the ovary and oviduct, expressed in both absolute terms and relative to body weight. Dietary 2.5% LO, 2.5% FO and a mixture of 1.25% FO+1.25% LO enhanced GSH-Px activity, total antioxidant capacity and antibody titers significantly in comparison with control. It could be concluded that inclusion of mixed sources of n-3PUFA in diets at moderate levels (2.5%) increased the n-3PUFA content and decreased the n-6/n-3 ratio content in the yolk, improved the antioxidative status, reduced lipid peroxidation, enhanced the antibody response and did not have any negative influence on ovarian follicular development and tibial bone characteristics in aged laying hens.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to research the effect of feeding laying hens fish oil-supplemented diets to produce n-3-enriched eggs on their ovarian follicular development, serum lipid peroxidation, antioxidative status and immune response. A total of 105 white Bovens hens at 24 weeks of age were housed in cages in an open-sided building under a 16 h light : 8 h dark lighting schedule. Birds were randomly divided into five treatments and were fed, ad libitum, diets containing 0% (control), 1.25%, 2.5%, 3.5% or 5.0% fish oil from 24 to 36 weeks of age. Egg production and weight were recorded. By weeks 35 and 36 of age 15 eggs were taken at random from each treatment to determine the yolk lipid profile and cholesterol content. At the end of the experimental period, 10 females from each treatment were randomly chosen, anaesthetised and killed by decapitation. Ovary and oviduct samples were immediately weighted and ovarian follicles were classified. Serum thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS), hepatic TBARS and hepatic glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity were measured. No clear trend was observed concerning egg production and egg yolk cholesterol. As dietary fish oil levels increased, n-3-polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) increased, whereas n-6 PUFA tended to decrease in yolk lipids. No negative effects were detected in ovary and oviduct weights, expressed in both absolute terms and relative to body weight. The numbers and total weights of large yellow follicles (LYF) in the ovary were not significantly affected by fish oil supplementation. Low levels (1.25% to 2.5%) of fish oil reduced both plasma and hepatic TBARS and enhanced GSH-Px activity. It is also interesting to note that inclusion of 2.5% fish oil in laying hen diets enhanced the antibody titre in laying hens. Therefore, it could be concluded that inclusion of fish oil in laying hen diets at moderate levels increased the n-3 fatty acids content in eggs, improved antioxidative status, enhanced the antibody response and did not have a negative influence on the different reproductive morphology parameters in laying hens.  相似文献

Whether the interval between preovulatory surges of LH was different between lines of turkey hens with either poor (RBC3 line, peak at 55%) or excellent rate of egg production (Egg line, peak at 85%) was examined. Laying hens were cannulated and bled hourly for 10 days at peak of production. A constant light photoschedule was used to avoid diurnal masking of innate circadian rhythms. The mean interval between LH surges in the RBC3 line was longer than in the Egg line and had a higher coefficient of variation. A few longer LH surge intervals (72 h) were found in some RBC3 line hens (2 of 7 hens), but none were found in Egg line hens (0 of 11 hens). All progesterone (P4) surges were coupled with LH surges, but not all LH-P4 surges were coupled with ovipositions (blind LH-P(4) surges). The percentage of blind LH-P4 surges was not different between lines. The baseline concentration of LH was higher in Egg line than RBC3 line hens, but LH surge amplitude, and surge duration were not different. The baseline and surge amplitude concentrations of P4 were not different between lines, nor was the concentration of estradiol-17beta. The longer interval between LH surges was the major factor tested that was associated with the poorer egg production rate in RBC3 line hens in comparison to Egg line hens. A higher incidence of blind LH surges further contributed to lower egg production in RBC3 line turkey hens.  相似文献

The mechanism regulating ovarian regression during incubation behavior in the domestic turkey has not been elucidated. This study was designed to determine whether ovarian steroidogenic potential is depressed during gonadal regression associated with the onset of incubation behavior. Hens were housed in floor pens equipped with trap nests that were checked 7 times per day. Hens were grouped, according to nesting frequency and egg production, into the following classifications: laying (laid an egg every day and trapped in the nest only once/day); transitional (laid an egg every day but trapped in the nest 4 or more times/day); and Day 1, Day 3, and Day 5 incubating (no egg for 2, 4, or 6 days, respectively, while trapped in the nest at least 4 times/day). Follicular atresia was evident in the largest preovulatory follicle (F1) in transitional hens, extensive in F1 through the third largest follicle (F3) in Day 1 incubating hens, and extensive in F1 through F7in Day 3 incubating hens. Levels of circulating LH, progesterone (P), androgen (A), and estradiol (E) decreased in transitional hens relative to concentrations in laying hens and remained low thereafter. In contrast, levels of prolactin were greater in Day 3 and Day 5 incubating hens than in laying, transitional, or Day 1 incubating hens. Basal production of P by F1 granulosa cells was lower from Day 1 incubating hens than from the other groups. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of chromium propionate on egg production, egg quality, plasma biochemical parameters and egg chromium deposition in late-phase laying hens. Four hundred thirty-two 60-weeks old laying hens were divided into four groups of 108 birds per group according to egg production. The dietary treatments consisted of the basal diet adding with 0, 200, 400, and 600 μg/kg chromium as chromium propionate. All laying hens were given feed and water ad libitum for 8 weeks. The addition of 400 μg/kg Cr as chromium propionate increased egg production (P?<?0.01) during the later 4 weeks, but decreased albumen height, yolk color score, and Haugh unit of eggs. Six hundred micrograms per kilogram Cr as chromium propionate supplementation improved shell thickness (P?<?0.05). 200 μg/kg Cr as chromium propionate supplementation decreased the uric acid concentration by 31 % (P?<?0.05). However, supplemental Cr did not affect the egg chromium deposition of hens (P?>?0.05). These data indicated that feeding of late-phase laying hens with chromium propionate could improve egg production, increase eggshell thickness, but do not result in abnormal levels of chromium deposition in eggs.  相似文献

Excessive fecal excretion of phosphorus (P) has increasingly become an environmental issue due to oversupply of P in layer rations, and thus it is imperative to minimize safety margins for P to ensure the sustainability of the egg industry. In this study, a 12-week feeding trial (22 to 34 weeks of age) was conducted to evaluate the effects of phytase supplementation on production performance, plasma biochemistry, egg and bone quality and P excretion of laying hens fed various levels of non-phytate P (NPP). Forty-eight Lohmann white laying hens were randomly allocated to one of six corn–soybean meal–oat-based diets: diets containing 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 g/kg NPP without phytase, and diets containing 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0 g/kg NPP with phytase (1 000 U/kg diet) where phytase inclusion was expected to provide 1.0 g/kg NPP to laying hens, thus making the phytase-unsupplemented treatment served as a control for the phytase-supplemented treatment accordingly. Productive performance was recorded during the experimental period. Blood and egg samples were collected, and digestibility studies were conducted at weeks 6 and 12 of the experiment. Bone mineralization was evaluated at the end of the experiment. Egg weight and egg production, feed consumption, BW and feed conversion ratio of laying hens fed lower NPP diets supplemented with phytase were comparable to those of hens fed high NPP phytase-unsupplemented controls. Eggshell thickness, specific gravity, Haugh units, tibia bone mineral density, tibia ash percent, plasma P and other biochemical parameters were not significantly different among dietary treatments. Total P intake, excretion and retention were affected by diet (P < 0.001), but its deposition in eggs was not significantly different. Contrast analysis further showed that total P excretion of phytase present vs phytase absent was averagely reduced by 40.4 mg/hen per day (P < 0.01). Moreover, total P excretion was linearly (P < 0.01) reduced with lowering dietary NPP, and this relationship was similar regardless of whether phytase was supplemented or not. The results from this study indicated that NPP levels in laying hen diets could be reduced to 1.0 g/kg (excluding the portion of NPP released by phytase) with the inclusion of phytase, without negative effects on production performance and health of the hens, thereby diminishing P excretion into environment.  相似文献

In turkey hens, the egg production rate is relatively high early during a reproductive period, but declines as the period progresses. Among lines with different egg production potential, the interval between preovulatory surges of LH is the primary determinant of the egg production rate. The main objective of this study was to determine whether the decline in egg production rate late during an egg production period is also associated with a difference in the interval between LH preovulatory surges. A group of photosensitive turkey hens (Early) were photostimulated with continuous light (24L:0D) at 40 wk of age to induce egg laying, and serial blood samples were collected after about 3 wk of egg production. A second group of hens (Late) were housed in floor pens and photostimulated with 14L:10D at 40 wk of age for a normal 36-wk reproduction period and were then switched to 24L:0D lighting for 2 wk before collection of serial blood samples. Continuous light photostimulation was used for at least 2 wk before and during serial blood sampling to avoid potential masking effects of diurnal lighting on the interval between LH surges. The Early (n = 12) and Late (n = 16) hens were cannulated 3 days before being serially bled hourly for 10 days. The mean interval between preovulatory surges of LH was shorter in the Early hens than in the Late hens (26.1 +/- 2.5 h and 34.7 +/- 3.9 h, respectively). The intra-hen LH surge interval coefficient of variation was lower in the Early hens than in the Late hens (7.2% and 18.6%, respectively). The inter-hen LH surge interval coefficient of variation was similar in the Early and Late hens (9.5% and 11.2%, respectively). The incidence of blind surges of LH (those not retrospectively associated with ovipositions) was not different between Early and Late laying hens (8.4% +/- 15.2% and 7.3% +/- 14.6%, respectively). In conclusion, in turkey hens, longer intervals and greater intra-hen variation between LH surges were associated with a poorer rate of egg production late in the reproductive period relative to early in the reproductive period.  相似文献

In Australia, free-range egg production pullets are typically reared indoors, but adult layers get outdoor access. This new environment may be challenging to adapt to, which could impair egg production and/or egg quality. Adaptation might be enhanced through rearing enrichments. We reared 1386 Hy-Line Brown® chicks indoors with three treatments across 16 weeks: (1) a control group with standard litter housing conditions, (2) a novelty group providing novel objects that changed weekly, and (3) a structural enrichment group with custom-designed structures to partially impair visibility across the pen and allow for vertical movement. Pullets were transferred to a free-range system at 16 weeks of age with daily outdoor access provided from 25 until 64 weeks. Daily egg production at different laying locations (large nests, small nests and floor), weekly egg weights and egg abnormalities were recorded from 18 to 64 weeks old. External and internal egg quality parameters of egg weight, shell reflectivity, albumen height, haugh unit, yolk colour score, shell weight and shell thickness were measured at 44, 52, 60 and 64 weeks. There was a significant interaction between rearing treatment and nest box use on hen-day production from weeks 18 to 25 (P < 0.0001) with the novelty hens laying the most eggs and the control hens the fewest eggs in the nest box. Similarly, from 26 to 64 weeks, the novelty hens laid more eggs in the large nest boxes and fewer eggs on the floor than both the structural and control hens (P < 0.0001). Egg weight and abnormalities increased with age (P < 0.0001), but rearing treatment had no effect on either measure (both P ≥ 0.19). Rearing treatment affected shell reflectivity and yolk colour with the control hens showing paler colours across time relative to the changes observed in the eggs from enriched hens. The novelty hens may have established nest box laying patterns as they were more accustomed to exploring new environments. The differences in egg quality could be related to stress adaptability or ranging behaviour. This study shows that enriching environments during rearing can have some impacts on production parameters in free-range hens.  相似文献

Changes in plasma levels of prolactin and LH, feed intake, water consumption, behavioural pattern and ovarian activity were recorded after oral administration of PCPA to broody turkey hens. A decrease in prolactin concentration was measured, from day 3, in 3 out of the 5 birds treated with 100 mg PCPA/kg body weight (BW) for 3 consecutive days. In these hens, broodiness was disrupted on day 6 and feeding activity subsequently increased to levels of photorefractory hens. Neither LH concentrations nor ovarian activity were affected after treatment with PCPA. Moreover, PCPA treatment was ineffective at a 50 mg/kg BW dose. These results confirm that a serotoninergic mechanism is probably involved in prolactin release and moreover suggest that prolactin is implicated in maintaining broody behaviour. However, the reductions in the plasma concentration of prolactin induced by PCPA were not sufficient to restore the hypothalamic-hypophyseal-ovarian axis to a physiological status characteristic of the laying hen. Therefore, PCPA does not appear to be a useful method of treating broodiness in commercial turkey hens.  相似文献

Phytase has long been used to decrease the inorganic phosphorus (Pi) input in poultry diet. The current study was conducted to investigate the effects of Pi supplementation on laying performance, egg quality and phosphate–calcium metabolism in Hy-Line Brown laying hens fed phytase. Layers (n = 504, 29 weeks old) were randomly assigned to seven treatments with six replicates of 12 birds. The corn–soybean meal-based diet contained 0.12% non-phytate phosphorus (nPP), 3.8% calcium, 2415 IU/kg vitamin D3 and 2000 FTU/kg phytase. Inorganic phosphorus (in the form of mono-dicalcium phosphate) was added into the basal diet to construct seven experimental diets; the final dietary nPP levels were 0.12%, 0.17%, 0.22%, 0.27%, 0.32%, 0.37% and 0.42%. The feeding trial lasted 12 weeks (hens from 29 to 40 weeks of age). Laying performance (housed laying rate, egg weight, egg mass, daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio) was weekly calculated. Egg quality (egg shape index, shell strength, shell thickness, albumen height, yolk colour and Haugh units), serum parameters (calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone, calcitonin and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D), tibia quality (breaking strength, and calcium, phosphorus and ash contents), intestinal gene expression (type IIb sodium-dependent phosphate cotransporter, NaPi-IIb) and phosphorus excretion were determined at the end of the trial. No differences were observed on laying performance, egg quality, serum parameters and tibia quality. Hens fed 0.17% nPP had increased (P < 0.01) duodenum NaPi-IIb expression compared to all other treatments. Phosphorus excretion linearly increased with an increase in dietary nPP (phosphorus excretion = 1.7916 × nPP + 0.2157; R2 = 0.9609, P = 0.001). In conclusion, corn–soybean meal-based diets containing 0.12% nPP, 3.8% calcium, 2415 IU/kg vitamin D3 and 2000 FTU/kg phytase would meet the requirements for egg production in Hy-Line Brown laying hens (29 to 40 weeks of age).  相似文献

Hens forming uncalcified shells synthesized less 1,25-hydroxycholecalciferol (1,25(OH)2D3) and less duodenal and eggshell gland (ESG) calbindin than normal laying hens. Hens forming thin shells had lower intestinal and ESG calbindin and its mRNA. Reducing ESG calcium (Ca2+) transport by the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor acetazolamide, but not by dietary Ca2+ restriction, reduced ESG calbindin and its mRNA. Two sub-populations of hens characterized by shell thickness (ST) maintained this characteristic throughout the whole production period. The differences between the two sub-populations increased with age. In old laying hens, the two sub-populations responded differently to dietary Ca2+ restriction and to exogenous 1,25(OH)2D3. Those forming a thin shell responded to 1,25(OH)2D3 by a significant improvement in ST. The results suggest that: (a) the mechanism responsible for Ca2+ transport to the egg shell consists of a vitamin D-dependent absorption of Ca2+ and a multi-factor-dependent transfer of Ca2+ to the shell; (b) both steps are, most likely, calbindin-mediated; however, the induction of calbindin gene expression in the ESG is predominantly calcium-dependent; and (c) the apparent defect in vitamin D metabolism or its expression in old hens is typical of, or even exclusive, to thin-shell-forming hens.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to observe the effects of dietary supplementation with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on performance, egg quality, tissue Zn content, bone parameters, superoxide dismutase activity (SOD), and egg malondialdehyde (MDA) content in laying hens. A total of 288 laying hens at 64 weeks of age were randomly assigned to 4 treatments, 6 replicates, with 12 birds each. Experimental diets included the based diet (without Zn supplementation), and basal diet supplemented with 40, 80, and 120 mg Zn/kg from ZnO-NPs. Feed intake and egg mass were significantly higher in the 40 and 80 ZnO-NPs groups than the other groups. The birds in the 80 ZnO-NPs group had significantly higher egg product than the 120 ZnO-NPs and control groups. Egg shell thickness and shell strength significantly increased in the 40 and 80 ZnO-NPs groups. Moreover, Haugh unit significantly improved in the groups supplemented with ZnO-NPs, compared to the control group. Bone-breaking strength was significantly greater in the 80 ZnO-NPs group than the 120 ZnO-NPs and control groups. Also, ash weight was significantly greater in the 40 and 80 ZnO-NPs groups than the control group. There were significant differences among the groups in the Zn content in plasma, tibia, liver, pancreas, and egg. Relative to the control group, ZnO-NPs supplementation significantly increased the activities of SOD in the liver, pancreas, and plasma. The MDA content in egg was significantly reduced in the groups supplemented with ZnO-NPs. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that ZnO-NPs as dietary supplementation can improve the performance of laying hens, and levels of 40 to 80 ZnO-NPs are the optimal concentrations.

This study demonstrates the long-term effects of very early embryonic exposure to a single dose of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) (0, 10 and 20 ng/egg), administered before the beginning of embryonic development, on growth and reproductive performance in laying hens. Hatchability and body weight gain from 11 weeks onwards were significantly depressed in 20 ng treated hens. All hens started laying egg at around the same age and the laying performance of TCDD-treated hens was normal. No disturbances in the age-related pattern and concentrations of oestradiol, LH or FSH in plasma could be found but mean progesterone concentrations were significantly lower in 20 ng treated hens. Moreover, follicular distribution was changed with less small white follicles and smaller yellow follicles, which probably resulted in the lower egg weight of the 20 ng treated hens. At 43 weeks of age, hens treated in ovo with TCDD showed a retained right oviduct, mostly filled with clear fluid. From these results, it seems that in ovo exposure to TCDD interferes in the right oviduct regression during embryonic development and induces some changes in follicular distribution but without impairment of reproductive performance in the adult laying hen.  相似文献

The present study was designed (i) to assess the changes in the activity of 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3beta-HSD) and cytochrome P450 aromatase (P450arom) in the ovaries of hens which are subjected to a pause in egg laying by fasting, and (ii) relate these changes with progesterone (P(4)) and estradiol (E(2)) production in the ovary. Hy-Line Brown laying hens (n=90) were fasted for 5 days with water deprivation only on day 3 and subsequently fed every second day up to day 13 and then ad libitum. Birds were euthanized (n=18) on day 0, 3, 6, 9 and 16 of the experiment. The activities of 3beta-HSD and P450arom were evaluated in stroma with cortical follicles (<1mm) and in the wall of white non-hierarchical (1-8 mm) and yellow hierarchical follicles (>8 mm) by histochemical and immunohistochemical method, respectively. Ovarian P(4) and E(2) were measured radioimmunologically. Hens stopped egg laying on day 4 of the experiment and pause in egg laying lasted up to day 12. The hens then began to gradually resume egg laying and on day 16 all hens laid eggs. It was found that during the pause in egg laying: (i) the activity of 3beta-HSD in stroma and normal white follicles was slightly decreased while P450arom activity was significantly increased; (ii) in yellow hierarchical follicles which became atretic and regressed, activity of both enzymes were markedly decreased; (iii) ovarian P(4) production dramatically decreased, whereas ovarian E(2) production after an initial decrease significantly increased. In white atretic follicles the activity of 3beta-HSD and P450arom was very weak during the whole experiment. In conclusion, the present results indicate that during a pause in egg laying white follicles become resistant to atresia.  相似文献

Few studies have examined the effect of age on the ovulation cycle of the hen. Our aim was to determine if changes in the ovary account for the decrease in egg production with age. Young hens (28-38 wk of age) laying at least 20 eggs per sequence and old hens (53-63 wk of age) laying 3-6 eggs per sequence were used. We determined luteinizing hormone (LH) sensitivity of the ovary of young and old hens by measuring LH stimulable adenylyl cyclase (AC) activity of the granulosa layer. We also measured theca- and granulosa-layer weights and steroid concentrations of these layers and of the serum in young and old hens. Mean basal AC activity (pg/min/mg protein) for the largest (F1) and second largest (F2) follicles from young and old hens did not differ. A significant dose-response relationship to LH was present in all groups, and AC responsiveness to increasing doses of LH was greater in the F1 and F2 follicles of young hens than in the same follicles of old hens. The F4 and F5 follicles of young hens had a significantly greater estradiol (E2) concentration (pg/mg theca protein) compared to old hens, while the E2 concentration in the F2 follicle was greater in old hens. The theca layer of the F1 follicle of old hens weighed significantly more than that of young hens, whereas the theca layer of the F3, F4 and F5 follicles from young hens weighed more than those of old hens.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Photoperiodic response curves for LH release were obtained for juvenile female domestic chickens at 8 weeks of age by measuring changes in plasma LH concentrations after increasing the daily photoperiod from 8 to 10.5, 12.75, 15.25, 17.75 or 20 h. The birds were bred either for meat production (broiler) or commercial egg-laying and were fed ad libitum or a restricted diet, similar to that used under commercial conditions. Ovarian and oviduct growth was stimulated by 2 weeks after transfer to 20 h light/day in the dwarf broiler strain, irrespective of the dietary treatment, but not in birds of the egg-laying strain. Baseline concentrations of plasma LH were higher in the egg-laying than in the dwarf broiler strain birds. A significant effect of dietary treatment was observed on the changes in concentration of plasma LH in the nonphotostimulated dwarf broiler, but not in the egg-laying bird. There was no significant interaction between dietary treatment and photoinduced LH release in birds of either strain. The shortest photoperiod needed to stimulate LH release (critical daylength) was less than 10.5 h in the dwarf broilers and between 10.5 and 12.75 h in the egg-laying birds. The shortest photoperiod needed to stimulate the maximum release of LH (saturation daylength) was between 10.5 and 12.75 h in the dwarf broiler strain. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of chromium (chromium picolinate, CrPic) and zinc (ZnSO4·H2O) on egg production, egg quality, and serum insulin, corticosterone, glucose, cholesterol, and total protein concentrations of laying hens reared under a low ambient temperature (6.8°C). One hundred twenty laying hens (Hy-Line; 32 wk old) were divided into 4 groups, 30 hens per group. The laying hens were fed the control diet (T1) or the control diet supplemented with either 400 μg of Cr/kg of diet (T2), 30 mg of Zn/kg of diet (T3), or 400 μg of Cr plus 30 mg of Zn/kg of diet (T4). Although the dry matter intake (DMI) was similar (p>0.05) for all treatment groups, supplemental chromium and zinc either individually or together increased live-weight change, egg production, and improved feed efficiency (p<0.05). However, no significant differences were observed between T4 and T2 or T3. Compared to T1, supplemental chromium and zinc increased egg weight, eggshell weight, eggshell thickness, egg specific gravity, and Haugh unit (p<0.05) in T2, T3, and T4 groups, among which there was no significant difference. Serum insulin concentration increased (p<0.05) and corticosterone concentration decreased (p<0.05) with dietary chromium and zinc supplementation. Serum glucose and cholesterol concentrations decreased (p<0.05) and protein concentrations increased (p<0.001) with dietary chromium and zinc supplementation in all treatment groups. The results of this study indicated that either supplemental dietary chromium or zinc increased plasma insulin and decreased corticosterone concentrations and that had a positive effect on performance of laying hens under low ambient temperature.  相似文献

Circulating inhibin A, inhibin B, activin A, total immunoreactive inhibin alpha-subunit (ir-alpha inhibin), LH, FSH and progesterone concentrations were measured throughout the normal ovulatory cycle and after cessation of egg laying induced by feed restriction to investigate the potential involvement of inhibins and activins in the ovulatory cycle of the domestic hen. Plasma inhibin A varied significantly (P < 0.05) during the ovulatory cycle; the concentration was highest at the preovulatory LH surge and reached a nadir 10 h later, at about the time the F(2) follicle makes the transition to become the new F(1) follicle. Plasma FSH concentrations did not change significantly throughout the cycle and showed no correlation with inhibin A. Total ir-alpha inhibin concentrations were much higher than those of inhibin A at all stages of the ovulatory cycle and showed no correlation with inhibin A or FSH. Plasma concentrations of inhibin B and of activin A were below the detection limit of the assays in all plasma samples analysed. In the feed restriction study, plasma inhibin A and total ir-alpha inhibin showed little change until the last day of oviposition (day 0) after which they fell significantly (P < 0.05) and remained low to the end of the experiment (approximately 70-78% decrease relative to day -4). Conversely, plasma FSH increased after cessation of laying and was significantly higher (P < 0.05) from day 3 to the end of the study (approximately 50% increase on day 6 relative to day -4). Plasma FSH values were negatively correlated with inhibin A (r = -0.39; P < 0.005) and total ir-alpha inhibin (r = -0.36; P < 0.005). Plasma LH and progesterone also decreased (P < 0.05) during feed restriction. The decrease in LH preceded the terminal oviposition and the associated fall in inhibin A by 2 days; there was a positive correlation between LH and inhibin A (r = 0.35; P < 0.005). Taken together these findings support (i) a role for LH in promoting inhibin A secretion by preovulatory follicles and (ii) an endocrine role for inhibin A secreted by preovulatory follicles in the maintenance of tonic FSH secretion in laying hens.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of simultaneous supplementation of laying hens with dietary sources of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and carotenoids on egg quality, fatty acids and carotenoid profile of the egg yolk and on feed and yolk lipid peroxidation. A 6-week experiment was carried out with 53-week old laying hens (96 Tetra SL) assigned to a control and three treatment groups supplemented with 5% flaxseeds and different levels of dried tomato waste (DTW, 2.5%, 5.0% and 10.0%). Hens from the groups supplemented with 5% and 7.5% DTW had a significantly lower average daily feed intake and laying percentage as compared to the control. Increased doses of dietary DTW enhanced yolk Roche colour score in direct correlation with the enrichment of egg yolk in carotenoids but decreased their transfer efficiency from feed to egg. After 4 weeks, egg yolk from hens fed with 5% flaxseeds and 7.5% DTW had increased lutein and zeaxanthin levels (by 29% and 24%, respectively) and the colour score was 3.5 fold higher compared to the control group. As a result of the dietary supplementation with flaxseed, the n-3 fatty acid content was 3.1–3.7-fold higher in egg yolk compared with the control and the n-6/n-3 ratio decreased from 18.3 (control) to 4.1–5.4 in supplemented diets. Dietary supplementation with 5% DTW effectively prevented lipid oxidation of eggs enriched with n-3 PUFA, but the increase in DTW content depressed the absorption and deposition of n-3 PUFA in egg yolk.  相似文献
