The basic electrophysiological manifestations of the ventricular myocardium of twelve 7- to 12-week human embryos were measured with a glass electrode and a programmed stimulation technique. The resting membrane potential value was 79.37 +/- 0.34 mV and the overshoot 32.7 +/- 0.57 mV; the action potential (AP) duration at 1 Hz stimulation frequency was 120.0 +/- 5.7 ms at AP plateau phase levels and 258 +/- 17 ms at the level corresponding to 95% repolarization. The duration of the AP was a function of the stimulation frequency. i.e. it altered in correlation to the stimulation programme fully developed frequency sensitivity). In stimulation with different frequencies the duration of the steady state AP was in an inverse relation to the stimulation frequency, the maximum changes being found in the terminal repolarization zone. An interpolated extrasystole mainly affected the duration of the plateau phase.  相似文献

Using microelectrode technique, studies have been made on electrophysiological indices (amplitude of AP, amplitude of the plateau, latent period of AP, duration of maximal depolarization, duration of repolarization at different levels) of cells of isolated atrium and ventricles of the carp during both the spontaneous activity and electrical stimulation. The obtained amplitude-temporal parameters were compared to those of the heart in the frog R. temporaria. It was found that the amplitude of AP, the amplitude of the plateau and the duration of the latent period of AP in both the atrium and ventricles of the carp significantly (p less than 0.01) differ from the corresponding indices of the frog. On the contrary, the duration of maximal depolarization and repolarization in cells from homologous parts of the heart is very close in the species investigated.  相似文献

The peculiarities of the genesis of electrocardiosignal under myocardial ischemia in connection with an increase of its electrical inhomogeneity, as well as the electrophysiological mechanisms of morphological changes of the T wave of the electrocardiogram, including its “symmetrization” have been considered. A systemic approach to the problem has been used, which combines the mathematical, computer, and physiological modeling of the cardiac electrical activity with studies of the electric field of the human heart in terms of biophysical models. A database for the repolarization parameters of experimental electrocardiosignals (“Norm” and “Ischemia” samples) has been formed. The parameters of the ST-T interval and T wave, which could characterize the symmetry of the latter, and some additional properties of the repolarization process have been obtained. The methods of mathematical modeling were used also. Computer experiments were carried out on a system for 3D modeling of the cardiac electrical activity at different structural levels of the object. By the results of preliminary analysis, the β T index, which is calculated as the ratio of two maximum absolute values of the derivative of the cardiosignal at the left and right of the T wave apex, has been chosen as one of the main diagnostic markers of ischemia. There is reason to believe that the use of the β T index allows one to recognize those deviations from the norm that are usually hidden from a physician in traditional ECG analysis. The ratios of repolarization intervals inside of the generalized QT interval have also appeared potentially informative. With the purpose to test and correct the hypotheses for conducting further investigations, some preliminary experiments on a low-resolution model for several alternatives of the degree, localization, and extensiveness of ischemia have been carried out. The results obtained at the first stage of the team-work are essential to the understanding of mechanisms of the genesis of an electrocardiographic image for myocardial ischemia and of interest for the biophysically sound development of new algorithms for computer cardiodiagnostics.  相似文献

Epidemiological studies show that left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and hypertension (HT) in coronary artery disease increases the risk for cardiovascular events including sudden cardiac death (SCD). According to experimental studies, myocardial hypertrophy is associated both with altered electrophysiological properties (including prolonged repolarization) and increased vulnerability to ischemia. However, human data to support a repolarization-related mechanism for the increased SCD risk has not been provided. We therefore studied 187 patients undergoing three-dimensional vectorcardiographic monitoring during coronary angioplasty. Eight parameters reflecting different aspects of ventricular repolarization were used: 1) the ST segment (ST-VM and STC-VM), 2) the T vector (QRS-T angle, Televation, and Tazimuth), and 3) the T vector loop (Tavplan, Teigenv, and Tarea). Data collection was performed at rest and at the time of maximum ischemia during coronary occlusion. The patients were divided into three groups: 33 patients with ECG signs of LVH (18 with HT), 54 with HT but without LVH signs, and 100 patients with neither. Coronary artery disease patients with LVH not only had the most abnormal baseline repolarization (as expected) but also a significantly more pronounced repolarization response during coronary occlusion, whereas HT patients had mean parameter values between LVH patients and those without neither HT nor LVH signs. Because there is a relation between increased SCD risk and repolarization disturbances in various clinical settings, the results of the present study are in agreement with animal data and epidemiological observations, although other factors than disturbed repolarization might be of importance.  相似文献

The role of electrical heterogeneity in development of cardiac arrhythmias is well recognized. The extent to which transmembrane action potential (TAP) heterogeneity contributes to the normal electrophysiology of well-oxygenated atria is not well defined. The principal objective of the present study was to define regional and transmural differences in characteristics of the TAP in isolated superfused and arterially perfused canine right atrial (RA) preparations under baseline, rapidly activating delayed rectifier K(+) current (I(Kr)) block, and combined block of ultrarapid delayed rectifier and transient outward K(+) current (I(Kur)/I(to) block). Superfused preparations that survived generally displayed a triangle-shaped TAP. Exceptions included cells from the crista terminalis, where TAPs with a normal plateau could be recorded. In contrast, most TAPs recorded from throughout the perfused RA displayed a spike-and-dome and/or plateau morphology. The perfused RA displayed a heterogeneous distribution of repolarization, V(max), and spike-and-dome morphology along the epicardial and endocardial surfaces as well as transmurally, in the region of the upper crista terminalis. I(Kr) block with E-4031 prolonged repolarization homogeneously in the perfused RA, whereas I(Kur)/I(to) block using low concentrations of 4-aminopyridine abbreviated action potential duration at 90% repolarization heterogeneously, leading to a reduction in dispersion of repolarization. Our data indicate that the electrical heterogeneities, previously described for the canine ventricle, also exist within the atria and that I(Kr) block does not accentuate and I(Kur)/I(to) block reduces RA dispersion of repolarization. Our study also points to major differences in the transmembrane activity recorded using superfused vs. arterially perfused atrial preparations.  相似文献

Studies were performed on canine cardiac Purkinje fibers to evaluate the effects of acidosis and bicarbonate (HCO3) on action potential repolarization. Extracellular pH (pHe) was reduced from 7.4 to 6.8 by increasing carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration from 4 to 15% in a HCO3-buffered solution or by NaOH titration in a Hepes-buffered solution. Both types of acidosis produced a slowing of the rate of terminal repolarization (i.e., period of repolarization starting at about -60 mV and ending at the maximum diastolic potential) with an attendant increase in action potential duration of 10--20 ms. This was accompanied by a reduction in the maximum diastolic potential of 2--8 mV. In contrast, if the same pH change was made by keeping CO2 concentration constant and lowering extracellular HCO3 from 23.7 to 6.0 mM, in addition to the slowing of terminal repolarization, the plateau was markedly prolonged resulting in an additional 50- to 80-ms increase in action potential duration. If pHe was held constant at 7.4 and HCO3 reduced from 23.7 mM to 0 (Hepes-buffered solution), the changes in repolarization were nearly identical to those seen in 6.0 mM HCO3 except that terminal repolarization was unchanged. This response was unaltered by doubling the concentration of Hepes. Reducing HCO3 to 12.0 mM produced changes in repolarization of about one-half the magnitude of those in 6.0 mM HCO3. These findings suggest that in Purkinje fibers, HCO3 either acts as a current that slows repolarization or modulates the ionic currents responsible for repolarization.  相似文献

The fertilization potential in Phallusia mammillata consisted of an initial rapid depolarization. This initial sperm-triggered depolarization was followed by a phase of membrane depolarization which was of either long or short duration, depending on the eggs. When of long duration, the phase of membrane depolarization was divided into two periods: the first one began with a plateau (Em = +20.2 +/- 1.1 mV; duration = 1.7 +/- 0.14 min) which was followed by a series of membrane potential oscillations (n = 3.1 +/- 0.25) lasting 2.4 +/- 0.2 min. The second period also began as a plateau (Em = approximately 0 mV; duration = 3.40 +/- 0.20 min) which was followed by a series of oscillations (n = 11.5 +/- 0.5) lasting 11.8 +/- 0.6 min, followed by a membrane repolarization. The second series of oscillations often continued rising from the resting potential value. In the eggs displaying a short duration of membrane depolarization, the second period of depolarization was shortened (lasting only 3.5 +/- 0.5 min) since it lacked the second plateau. In addition it displayed a smaller number of oscillations (n = 4.7 +/- 0.6). As a consequence of this shortening, the membrane repolarized sooner. After repolarization, the membrane displayed several potential oscillations that started from the repolarization level. Regardless of the length of the depolarized plateau phases, the total number of membrane oscillations and the time period during which they occurred were constant. Eggs displaying a long depolarization phase had 15.9 +/- 0.6 oscillations in a 19.5 +/- 0.6 min interval, while eggs having a short depolarization phase had 16.0 +/- 0.8 oscillations in a 18.1 +/- 0.3 min interval. The time period during which the potential oscillations occurred corresponded remarkably well with the time of the meiotic divisions: the formation of the first polar body was detected about 80 sec after the end of the first series of oscillations; the second polar body was extruded about 85 sec after the last membrane oscillation occurred.  相似文献

Summary

The Author observing the great disagreement of the terminology usually adopted for the apomictic phenomena, examines the whole series of the phenomena noted both in regards of the formation of the gametophyte and of the embryo. The forming of the gametophyte is fixed on the base of nature of its original cell, normally a haploid spore or »haplospore« (phenomenon of the »haplospory« following the regular meiosis), rarely a diploid spore or »diplospore« (phenomenon of the »diplospory« following the irregular meiosis, as for instance in the case of restitution nucleus, etc.). The original cell can be at least represented by the same cell that usually is the spore mother cell, whether for the outward causes, or for inward causes is lacking the usual reductional process. For the failure of the meiotic process, such a cell cannot be called »spore«.

A cell of the somatic tissue of the sporophyte can even become the original cell of the gametophyte always in case of the absence of the meiosis. These two last cases of apospory are respectively called: »somatic apospory« and »gonial apospory« (= germinal apospory) (Chiarugi 1926).

The formation of the embryo is fixed on the base of the nature of the fecundation. The principal phenomena of the fecundation are represented by the following cases: »amphigamy« (or eugamy, or gamy), »semigamy, »pseudogamy«, »apogamy« »parthenogenesis«. The A. uses the term »apogamy« both for the diploid eggs and for the haploid eggs in which the stimulation of the division is produced by the pollen-tube or by male nuclei, in absence of the gamy.

The term »parthenogenesis« is restricted to the division of the haploid or diploid eggs in which the stimulation is not caused by pollen-tube nor even for the great reason, by the male nuclei existing in it.  相似文献

In the last decade numerous evolutionary models have been proposed and intensively discussed. Surprisingly, the logical analysis of these different hypotheses is not of great importance in this debate. As a matter of fact, Neodarwinism is a consistent deductive system which is based on few but wellconfirmed axioms. Hence, very often, precise statements and definitions of standpoint can be made. This is exemplified by some repeatedly discussed models concerning the problems of Darwinian »adaptation« and »natural selection« 1. Following the logic of the Neodarwinian theory, extinction can only be the result of overspecialization if some very unusual assumptions are made. 2. The hypothesis of »punctuated equilibrium« GOULD 1982), the »effect hypothesis« (VRBA 1983) and the stochastic evolutionary model SCHOPF 1979) include elements which are logically inconsistent with the »modern synthesis«; they could be »true« only if at least one of the neodarwinian axioms (so far not disproved) is negated.  相似文献

Sociobiological explanation of altruism, through theories as such «kin selection», cannot reach the wealth of human morality; it is necessary to add some specific traits in order to explain the human way to ultrasociability. Some of them appear within the classical school of «moral sense», distinguishing between two different levels («motive to act» and «moral criterion») of moral phenomenon. Due to the complexity of criterion level, here we deal with a broad model of human moral phenomenon, proposing three different dominions («motive to act», «personal criterion», «collective values»), and trying to find possible phylogenetic roots of them through a cognitive approach.  相似文献

IntroductionTo investigate the relationship between self-rated health and mortality at 5 years of follow-up among the elderly in a rural community.DesignSurvival study with a 5-year follow-up.ParticipantsRepresentative sample of 408 individuals aged more than 65 years living in a rural municipality in the north-west of Spain.ResultsSurvival was significantly lower among individuals who reported «poor» or «very poor» health (relative risk [RR] = 1.56; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.04-2.33). However, after adjusting for other variables (age, sex, education, severe disease, toxic habits, and mobility) the probability of survival among these individuals reporting «poor» or «very poor» health was similar to that among participants who rated their health as «average», «good » or «very good» (RR = 1.15; 95% CI, 0.71-1.87). In the multivariate analysis, only age, regular smoking, and mobility remained as significant predictive factors of mortality.ConclusionsAfter adjusting for demographic and socioeconomic factors and for objective health status, self-rated health does not have a direct effect on mortality. The degree of mobility does seem to be useful in predicting mortality.  相似文献

Unipolar electrograms (EGs) and hybrid (or unorthodox or unipolar) monophasic action potentials (HMAPs) are currently the only proposed extracellular electrical recording techniques for obtaining cardiac recovery maps with high spatial resolution in exposed and isolated hearts. Estimates of the repolarization times from the HMAP downstroke phase have been the subject of recent controversies. The goal of this paper is to computationally address the controversies concerning the HMAP information content, in particular the reliability of estimating the repolarization time from the HMAP downstroke phase. Three-dimensional numerical simulations were performed by using the anisotropic bidomain model with a region of short action potential durations. EGs, transmembrane action potentials (TAPs), and HMAPs elicited by an epicardial stimulation close or away from a permanently depolarized site were computed. The repolarization time was computed as the moment of EG fastest upstroke (RT(eg)) during the T wave, of HMAP fastest downstroke (RT(HMAP)), and of TAP fastest downstroke (RT(tap)). The latter was taken as the gold standard for repolarization time. We also compared the times (RT90(HMAP), RT90(tap)) when the HMAP and TAP first reach 90% of their resting value during the downstroke. For all explored sites, the HMAP downstroke closely followed the TAP downstroke, which is the expression of local repolarization activity. Results show that HMAP and TAP markers are highly correlated, and both markers RT(HMAP) and RT(eg) (RT90(HMAP)) are reliable estimates of the TAP reference marker RT(tap) (RT90(tap)). Therefore, the downstroke phase of the HMAP contains valuable information for assessing repolarization times.  相似文献

The membrane properties of fertilized eggs of the ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi were studied using standard microelectrode techniques. The resting potential was approximately -80 mV, and was dependent on the extracellular K concentration. Depolarizing current injections elicited an action potential with an initial peak amplitude of +20 to +40 mV (duration about 5 sec) and a long lasting (duration 3 to 10 min) plateau phase. The depolarizing phase and the plateau phase appeared to have different ionic mechanisms. The entire action potential could be prevented by removal of extracellular Ca, but only the amplitude of the depolarizing phase, not the plateau phase, was dependent on the extracellular Ca concentration. The plateau phase was not observed in the absence of Ca, but in the presence of Ca its duration was dependent on the external Ca concentration. The data suggest that the plateau phase is activated as a consequence of Ca influx during the initial depolarizing phase. Removal of external Na resulted in only minor changes in the waveform of repolarization. The action potential was resistant to low concentrations of Mn and Cd in the presence of Ca. The role of this action potential in ctenophore development is not known, but in its waveform and duration it resembles the sperm-gated potentials that have been seen in eggs of other phyla. These experiments show ctenophore embryos to be excitable at very early stages, and suggest their utility in the study of the differentiation of cellular electrical properties.  相似文献

On the presence of « hyphycellariola » (swollen celles) and conidia in three lichenized fungi cultivated « in vitro ». — The Authors refer to the presence of « cellariola » (and « hyphycellariola ») found in pure cultures « in vitro » of the mycobiont of Xanthoria parietina and describe the morphology of conidia in the fungus isolated from Sarcogyne similis and Acarospora fuscata.

As far as the « cellariola » and « hyphycellariola » are concerned, it is the first note relative to the mycobionts of Lichens.

The Authors report the data of the utilized medium and the morphological observations.

Abstract

«Saxifraga berica» (Béguinot) D. A. Webb and «Asplenium lepidum» Presl on the «Colli Berici». – We have identified a new association in the small caverns of the calcareous rocks in the hills of the north-eastern zone of the «Colli Berici», rising from the Italian plain near Vicenza. We have adopted for this association the name: ADIANTO-SAXIFRAGETUM BERICAE. This phytocoenose is characterized by the endemic «Saxifraga berica». We have found new stations of this remarkable plant and reported some features of this species to complete the diagnosis of D. A. Webb. In two station of this association we have found also the rare «Asplenium lepidum», new for this region.  相似文献

Abstract

Morphological aspects of Phaseolus coccineus suspensor cells at different periods of embryo development. — Embryo suspensor cells of Phaseolus coccineus have been analysed at different periods of seed and embryo development in field-grown plants and the frequency of cells involved in « DNA puffs » formation has been determined. The collected data show that: a) the relation between seed development and embryo development is not constant at different times in the season (from July to November); b) the frequency of cells showing « DNA puffs » is influenced by the above ratio. This fact seems to indicate that embryos of comparable developmental stages (as estimated by cotyledon length) show different metabolic patterns in relation to seed development and enviromental factors.  相似文献

Abstract

Photosynthetic rates of some algae in the marine cave « Grotta delle Viole » (Is. S. Domino - Tremiti). — The « Grotta delle Viole » is one of the several marine caves located along the calcareous rocky southern littoral of the Island S. Domino (Tremiti) in the Adriatic Sea. Morphologically this cave is a tunnel, which connects the open littoral sea with a little bay. Availing of these environmental factors, we have chosen three stations to measure the photosyn-thetic yield, under completely natural conditions, of algae particularly important for some marine communities, described in an other paper (see, Pignatti S. et al. 1967). In station 1 (fig. 1) we have a biotope with strongly reduced light and in the neighbouring stations 2 and 3, two biotopes exposed to sun-light. We have studied three species living in dark places (« Peyssonelia » cfr. « harveyana », « Palmophyllum crassum » and « Pseudolithophyllum expansum » two of well lighted habitas (« Padina pavonia » and « Dictyota dichotoma » and one of intermediate place (« Codium difforme ») Some information on the optical conditions of the seawater have been obtained with a photoelectric cell, filters were used to measure the red and blue light penetration (Tab. 1, 2). This part of the Adriatic Sea is characterized by high penetration of blue light. In the cave this light is highly predominant. The photosynthetic rates were measured in natural conditions by determining the output in time O2 using the Winkler method (Tab. 3) and the CO2 changes by measuring pH-changes in short time intervals with an original method using a submarine incubation cell, of our design, equipped with the electrodes of a pH-meter and a spot-light galvanometer as measure instrument. The data obtained with the latter method have been statistically analized, their significance discussed and reported in Tab. 4. On the basis of the results, the species, which are confined in places with reduced light intensity, show a low but measurable photosynthetic surplus only in their natural habitats, transferred in high-light intensity they show a deficit. This fact can suggest the hypotheses: deactivation of the chlorophyll in green and blue light or competitive inhibition due to the presence of accessory pigments. The species of sunny habitats transferred in low-light intensity show an assimilatory deficit, that in this case, with great probability, is due to the progressive reduction of the photosynthetic process. These considerations explaine also the observed distributions of the species and of the algal communities (fig. 1), since each of them is connected with a light optimum. It seems important moreover to note that here, for the first time, data are given also on photosynthetic activity of Lithothamnia.  相似文献

This paper summarizes and applies a continuum of «arbitrariness» or «symbolicity» composed of symptoms, rituals and symbols to the results of research in which American Sign Language (ASL) was used as the method of «language» training. Additionally, an expansion of the symbolicity continuum to include a continuum of «abstractness» with the «conceptual symbol» anchoring the most arbitrary end of the continuum was advanced. The results of the comparison provide additional support for the claim that apes are capable of learning and using symbolic signs. However, only a small number of those symbolic signs could be considered «conceptual symbols».  相似文献
