Although Myxobolus spp. from cyprinid fishes are generally characterised by a strict host-specificity, this study has found that the breams Abramis brama (L.), Blicca bjoerkna (L.) and Vimba vimba (L.) may be infected by the same Myxobolus spp. It is demonstrated that M. macrocapsularis Reuss, 1906, a parasite of the gill filaments of B. bjoerkna, can also infect A. brama. In the same way, M. bliccae Donec & Tozyyakova, 1984, also a parasite of B. bjoerkna, can also occur in V. vimba. The molecular sequences of M. macrocapsularis spores from B. bjoerkna and A. brama were 100% identical. Two of the 18S rDNA sequences of three replicate samples of M. bliccae from B. bjoerkna were 100% identical, whereas the third sequence exhibited a 99.7% similarity with sequences from V. vimba. M. bliccae sequences of spores collected from V. vimba showed a 99.8% similarity to the first two isolates and 99.6% to the third. Data obtained by morphological, histological and molecular biological methods all suggest that Myxobolus spp., known for their strict host-specificity, may sometimes infect several closely related cyprinids.  相似文献

1. The hemocyanins of the Melongenidae family of marine gastropods: Melongena corona, Busycon canaliculatum, B. carica, B. contrarium, and B. spiratum exist in solution as multi-decameric aggregates characterized by sedimentation coefficients of approximately 105 S, 130 S, 150 S, 170 S, and higher values, corresponding to di-, tri-, tetra-, penta-, and larger multi-decameric particles. 2. The hemocyanins of B. contrarium and B. carica seem to form the largest decameric aggregates with the tri- to penta-decamers respresenting the major constitutents. Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), both of unstained, freeze-dried and negatively-stained specimens, shows the presence of discrete aggregates consisting of up to ten decameric units. 3. The particle masses as determined by STEM mass measurements for individual molecules gave integral multiples of from 4.2 x 10(6) to 4.4 x 10(6) daltons ranging from about 8.2 x 10(6) daltons for the typical di-decamer of B. canaliculatum hemocyanin to as high as about 39 x 10(6) and 43 x 10(6) for the nano-and deca-decamers of B. contrarium hemocyanin. 4. The appearance of the higher multi-decamers in both negatively-stained and freeze-dried specimens suggest that they are formed by the addition of decameric units to a single di-decameric unit "tail-wise" in both directions. The higher aggregates formed seem to terminate with a closed head or collar at both ends of the assembly.  相似文献

The taxonomic assignment of Prorocentrum species is based on morphological characteristics; however, morphological variability has been found for several taxa isolated from different geographical regions. In this study, we evaluated species boundaries of Prorocentrum hoffmannianum and Prorocentrum belizeanum based on morphological and molecular data. A detailed morphological analysis was done, concentrating on the periflagellar architecture. Molecular analyses were performed on partial Small Sub‐Unit (SSU) rDNA, partial Large Sub‐Unit (LSU) rDNA, complete Internal Transcribed Spacer Regions (ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2), and partial cytochrome b (cob) sequences. We concatenated the SSU‐ITS‐LSU fragments and constructed a phylogenetic tree using Bayesian Inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods. Morphological analyses indicated that the main characters, such as cell size and number of depressions per valve, normally used to distinguish P. hoffmannianum from P. belizeanum, overlapped. No clear differences were found in the periflagellar area architecture. Prorocentrum hoffmannianum and P. belizeanum were a highly supported monophyletic clade separated into three subclades, which broadly corresponded to the sample collection regions. Subtle morphological overlaps found in cell shape, size, and ornamentation lead us to conclude that P. hoffmanianum and P. belizeanum might be considered conspecific. The molecular data analyses did not separate P. hoffmannianum and P. belizeanum into two morphospecies, and thus, we considered them to be the P. hoffmannianum species complex because their clades are separated by their geographic origin. These geographic and genetically distinct clades could be referred to as ribotypes: (A) Belize, (B) Florida‐Cuba, (C1) India, and (C2) Australia.  相似文献

Abstract

This report documents the discovery of repichnia trace fossils Ptychoplasma (P. excelsum and P. vagans) and Dendroidichnites (D. irregulare); the fodichnia traces ?Ctenopholeus (?C. kutcheri) and cubichnia traces Bergaueria (B. hemishperica) from silty limestones of the Cretaceous Bagh Formation. These trace fossils have significant implications for the depositional facies and the paleo-environmental interpretations of the Bagh Formation, which have long been debated. Previously identified traces of Protovirgularia were also found in association with the newly discovered trace fossils, indicating the coexistence of both wedge and cleft-foot bivalves. The western area of the mainland Gujarat is known for its abundance and diversity of trace fossils. The trace fossil bearing Cretaceous rocks in the region occur as thin irregular detached patches and linear outcrops. Previous studies documenting trace fossil assemblages from the Bagh Formation characterised them as a combination of dwelling, feeding and locomotion forms, with the stratigraphic unit becoming less fossiliferous westward. Trace fossils in this formation have been studied and described by many workers in the surrounding areas; however, ichnofossils described in this study are new to the Bagh Formation in this area. These trace fossils were observed on recently exposed outcrops along road cuts associated with new road construction from Khasra to Mogra village around Kadipani in Mainland Gujarat.  相似文献

Re-examination of the type and newly collected material of Episthmium bursicola (Creplin, 1837) revealed the presence of a uroproct. The species is redescribed and transferred to the genus Uroproctepisthmium as U. bursicola n. comb. E. proximum Travassos, 1922 is also transferred to Uroproctepisthmium as U. proximum n. comb. The generic diagnosis of Uroproctepisthmium is redefined and Episthmium is tentatively retained as a synonym of Echinochasmus, following Odhner (1910), until a thorough revision of its constituent species is made.  相似文献

Voltage-gated sodium channel alpha-subunits have been shown to be key mediators of the pathophysiology of pain. The present review considers the role of sodium channel auxiliary beta-subunits in channel modulation, channel protein expression levels, and interactions with extracellular matrix and cytoskeletal signaling molecules. Although beta-subunits have not yet been directly implicated in pain mechanisms, their intimate association with and ability to regulate alpha-subunits predicts that they may be a viable target for therapeutic intervention in the future. It is proposed that multifunctional sodium channel beta-subunits provide a critical link between extracellular and intracellular signaling molecules and thus have the ability to fine tune channel activity and electrical excitability.  相似文献

 Morphological, molecular and cytological analyses were performed to assess the hybridity of 120 putative interspecific hybrids of Carica papaya L.×C. cauliflora Jacq. In the putative interspecific hybrids the number of main leaf veins was intermediate between the two parents while the hermaphrodite flower sex form and the low vigour were distinctive features of these hybrids. Petiole length, stem diameter, leaf length, leaf width and flower colour were similar to C. papaya, whereas leaf shape, type, serration, venation, petiole hairiness and flower shape were similar to C. cauliflora. Markers generated by the polymerase chain reaction using 72 10-mer primers (random amplified polymorphic DNA) revealed a high level of polymorphism (64%) between C. papaya and C. cauliflora. Seventeen of these primers yielded reliable and easily scorable polymorphic banding patterns that were further screened to reveal hybrids. A range of 1–5 RAPD primers consistently confirmed that all 120 plants were genetic hybrids, with all of them containing at least one band from the male parent. Cytological analysis revealed that 7–48% of the cells in many of the interspecific hybrids were aneuploid suggesting that chromosome elimination was occurring. The frequency of aneuploid cells was negatively associated (r=0.88) with the number of bands from the male parent integrated into the hybrid. Pollen fertility of the hybrids was from 0.5 to 14.0% while C. papaya and C. cauliflora had 88.0–99.0% and 90.0–97.0% fertile pollen, respectively. Summary A brief review is presented of the Vester-Ulbricht -decay Bremsstrahlen hypothesis for the origin of optical activity, and of subsequent experiments designed to test it. Certain of our experiments along these lines, begun in 1974 and involving the irradiation of racemic and optically active amino acids in a 61.7 KCi90Sr–90Y Bremsstrahlen source, have now been completed and are described. After 10.89 years of irradiation with a total Bremsstrahlen dose of 2.5×109 rads, crystallinedl-leucine, norleucine, and norvaline suffered 47.2, 33.6, and 27.4% radiolysis, respectively, but showed no evidence whatsoever of asymmetric degradation.d- andl-Leucine underwent about 48% radiolysis and showed 2.4–2.9% radioracemization. Other samples in solution were too severely degraded to analyze. Probable intrinsic reasons for the failure of the Vester-Ulbricht mechanism to afford asymmetric radiolysis in the present and related experiments involving -decay Bremsstrahlen are enumerated.A portion of this material was presented at the 7th International Conference on the Origins of Life, Mainz, FRG, July 10–15, 1983  相似文献
