Immature foxhounds underwent 55% lung resection by right pneumonectomy (n = 5) or thoracotomy without pneumonectomy (Sham, n = 6) at 2 mo of age. Cardiopulmonary function was measured during treadmill exercise on reaching maturity 1 yr later. In pneumonectomized animals compared with Sham animals, maximal oxygen uptake, ventilatory response, and cardiac output during exercise were normal. Arterial and mixed venous blood gases and arteriovenous oxygen extraction during exercise were also normal. Mean pulmonary arterial pressure and resistance were elevated at a given cardiac output. Dynamic ventilatory power requirement was also significantly elevated at a given minute ventilation. These long-term hemodynamic and mechanical abnormalities are in direct contrast to the normal pulmonary gas exchange during exercise in these same pneumonectomized animals reported elsewhere (S. Takeda, C. C. W. Hsia, E. Wagner, M. Ramanathan, A. S. Estrera, and E. R. Weibel. J. Appl. Physiol. 86: 1301-1310, 1999). Functional compensation was superior in animals pneumonectomized as puppies than as adults. These data indicate a limited structural response of conducting airways and extra-alveolar pulmonary blood vessels to pneumonectomy and suggest the development of other sources of adaptation such as those involving the heart and respiratory muscles.  相似文献

Mechanical forces imposed on lung tissue constitute major stimuli for normal lung development and postpneumonectomy (PNX) compensatory growth and remodeling. Superimposing developmental signals on PNX signals augments compensatory alveolar growth but exaggerates airway-parenchymal dissociation (i.e., dysanaptic lung growth); the latter tends to offset benefits derived from the former. In adult dogs after PNX, lobar expansion and growth of the remaining lobes were markedly non-uniform (Ravikumar et al. J Appl Physiol 97:1567-1574, 2004). We hypothesized that superimposing developmental and post-PNX signals further accentuates nonuniformity of lobar growth. We used high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) to follow regional lung expansion and growth in foxhounds undergoing right PNX at 2.5 mo of age compared with litter-matched control (Sham) animals; scans were performed 4 and 10 mo following surgery, i.e., before and after somatic maturity. Air and tissue volumes were measured in each lobe; tissue volume estimated by HRCT includes air-free tissue and blood in small vessels <1 mm. Interlobar nonuniformity of tissue volume was absent at 4 mo but evident 10 mo after PNX; growth of the remaining left lower lobe gradually lagged behind other lobes. At maturity, nonuniformity of lobar growth in pneumonectomized puppies was similar to that previously reported in pneumonectomized adults. We conclude that superimposing developmental and post-PNX signals enhances some aspects of compensatory lung growth and remodeling without altering its nonuniform spatial distribution.  相似文献

To study the influence of blood flow on postpneumonectomy lung growth, we banded the left caudal lobe pulmonary artery of eight ferrets in such a way that blood flow to the caudal lobe did not increase when the right lung was excised 1 wk later. The fraction of the cardiac output received by the right lung before pneumonectomy was therefore directed entirely to the left cranial lobe. Three weeks after pneumonectomy the weight, volume, and protein and DNA contents of the two lobes of the left lung were measured and compared with those of five unoperated animals and eight animals after right pneumonectomy alone. Although its perfusion did not increase after pneumonectomy, the left caudal lobe of banded animals participated in compensatory growth, increasing in weight and protein and DNA contents. Although the cranial lobe of banded animals received 25% more of the cardiac output than the same lobe in pneumonectomized animals, cranial lobe volume and protein and DNA contents in the two groups were similar. Caudal lobes were smaller in banded than in simple pneumonectomized animals and tended to contain less protein, whereas the cranial lobes tended to be heavier. We conclude that increased pulmonary perfusion is not necessary for compensatory lung growth in adult ferrets, but it may modify this response.  相似文献

Functional capacities of the lungs and thorax in beagles taken to high altitude as adults for 33 mo or in beagles raised from puppies at high altitude were compared with functional capacities in corresponding sets of beagles kept simultaneously at sea level. Comparisons were made after reacclimatization to sea level. Lung volumes, airway pressures, esophageal pressures, CO diffusing capacities (DLCO), pulmonary blood flow, and lung tissue volume (Vt) were measured by a rebreathing technique at inspired volumes ranging from 15 to 90 ml/kg. In beagles raised from puppies we measured anatomical distribution of intrathoracic air and tissue using X-ray computed tomography at transpulmonary pressures of 20 cm H2O. Lung and thoracic distensibility, DLCO, and Vt were not different between beagles that had been kept at high altitude for 33 mo as adults and control subjects kept simultaneously at sea level. Lung distensibility, DLCO, and Vt were significantly greater in beagles raised at high altitude than control subjects raised simultaneously at sea level. Thoracic distensibility was not increased in beagles raised at high altitude; the larger lung volume was accommodated by a lower diaphragm, not a larger rib cage.  相似文献

To determine the extent and sources of adaptive response in gas-exchange to major lung resection during somatic maturation, immature male foxhounds underwent right pneumonectomy (R-Pnx, n = 5) or right thoracotomy without pneumonectomy (Sham, n = 6) at 2 mo of age. One year after surgery, exercise capacity and pulmonary gas-exchange were determined during treadmill exercise. Lung diffusing capacity (DL) and cardiac output were measured by a rebreathing technique. In animals after R-Pnx, maximal O2 uptake, lung volume, arterial blood gases, and DL during exercise were completely normal. Postmortem morphometric analysis 18 mo after R-Pnx (n = 3) showed a vigorous compensatory increase in alveolar septal tissue volume involving all cellular compartments of the septum compared with the control lung; as a result, alveolar-capillary surface areas and DL estimated by morphometry were restored to normal. In both groups, estimates of DL by the morphometric method agreed closely with estimates obtained by the physiological method during peak exercise. These data show that extensive lung resection in immature dogs stimulates a vigorous compensatory growth of alveolar tissue in excess of maturational lung growth, resulting in complete normalization of aerobic capacity and gas-exchange function at maturity.  相似文献

Maximal exercise performance was evaluated in four adult foxhounds after right pneumonectomy (removal of 58% of lung) and compared with that in seven sham-operated control dogs 6 mo after surgery. Maximal O2 uptake (ml O2.min-1.kg-1) was 142.9 +/- 1.9 in the sham group and 123.0 +/- 3.8 in the pneumonectomy group, a reduction of 14% (P less than 0.001). Maximal stroke volume (ml/kg) was 2.59 +/- 0.10 in the sham group and 1.99 +/- 0.05 in the pneumonectomy group, a reduction of 23% (P less than 0.005). Lung diffusing capacity (DL(CO)) (ml.min-1.Torr-1.kg-1) reached 2.27 +/- 0.08 in the combined lungs of the sham group and 1.67 +/- 0.07 in the remaining lung of the pneumonectomy group (P less than 0.001). In the pneumonectomy group, DL(CO) of the left lung was 76% greater than that in the left lung of controls. Blood lactate concentration and hematocrit were significantly higher at exercise in the pneumonectomy group. We conclude that, in dogs after resection of 58% of lung, O2 uptake, cardiac output, stroke volume, and DL(CO) at maximal exercise were restricted. However, the magnitude of overall impairment was surprisingly small, indicating a remarkable ability to compensate for the loss of one lung. This compensation was achieved through the recruitment of reserves in DL(CO) in the remaining lung, the development of exercise-induced polycythemia, and the maintenance of a relatively large stroke volume in the face of an increased pulmonary vascular resistance.  相似文献

Pneumonectomy approximately halves the available pulmonary vascular bed. It is unknown whether the remaining lung has sufficient vascular reserve to cope with increased blood flow under stressful conditions without demonstrating abnormal pulmonary hemodynamics. To investigate this question, unanesthetized ewes with vascular catheters had hemodynamics assessed before and after a left pneumonectomy. Subsequently, on different days, the sheep were exercised on a treadmill under normoxic and hypobaric hypoxic (430 mmHg) (1 mmHg = 133.3 Pa) conditions. Pneumonectomy itself increased mean pulmonary arterial pressure by 4 mmHg. During normoxic or hypoxic exercise, the pneumonectomized sheep demonstrated a pulmonary hemodynamic response similar to normal sheep with two lungs. The pressure-flow relation for the right lung suggested the vascular reserve of the lung was not exceeded during exercise in the pneumonectomized sheep. Eighteen to 70 days after pneumonectomy there was no evidence of right ventricular hypertrophy, but there were small increases in the number of muscularized vessels less than 50 microns diameter and in the amount of muscle in normally muscularized pulmonary arteries. This study demonstrates that pneumonectomy slightly increases mean pulmonary arterial pressure. However, there is sufficient vascular reserve in the remaining lung to permit a normal hemodynamic response to exercise-induced increased blood flow even under hypoxic conditions.  相似文献

Pulmonary blood volume and edema in postpneumonectomy lung growth in rats   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
After pneumonectomy in young animals, the contralateral lung undergoes compensatory growth and generally attains the same weight and air space volume as both lungs in age-matched controls. In this study, we determined the contribution of lung edema and increased blood volume to the weight gain in rats. Three weeks after pneumonectomy (n = 18) or sham pneumonectomy (n = 17), the pulmonary blood volume and the extravascular water and albumin were evaluated by use of 51Cr-labeled erythrocytes and 125I-labeled albumin. The air space volume, blood-free lung weights, and DNA and protein content were also compared. The data show that the total pulmonary blood volumes and the blood volume per gram of blood-free dry lung were similar in pneumonectomized and age-matched sham controls. The total extravascular albumin and the extravascular albumin per gram of blood-free dry lung were also similar as well as the extravascular lung water, wet-to-dry weight ratios, DNA and protein content, and air space volumes. These data indicate that the increased weight of the postpneumonectomy lung was due to cellular and stromal proliferation. The blood volume and interstitial fluid increased in proportion to the increase in lung parenchyma. Neither vascular congestion nor increased extravascular protein and water contributed to the observed weight gain.  相似文献

Although the left lung constitutes 42% of the total by weight and volume in dogs, carbon monoxide diffusing capacity (DL) after left pneumonectomy in adults falls less than 30% at rest, indicating a significant increase of DL in the remaining lung. DL normally increases during exercise, presumably by recruitment of alveolar capillaries and surface area as lung volume (Vs) and pulmonary blood flow (Qc) increase. We asked whether the increase of DL in the remaining lung after pneumonectomy in adult dogs could be explained by this kind of passive recruitment by the increased volume and Qc in the remaining lung. We measured the relationship between DL and Qc with a rebreathing technique at increasing treadmill loads in adult foxhounds, before and 6 mo after left pneumonectomy, and the relationship between DL and Vs by the same technique under anesthesia as Vs was expanded. DL was reduced by 29.1% at rest and 26.5% with heavy exercise after left pneumonectomy, indicating either recruitment or new growth in the right lung. With the assumption that the right lung normally receives 58% of the Qc and contains 58% of the DL, DL of the right lung increased with Qc in accordance with the following relationships before and after left pneumonectomy: right lung DL (before pneumonectomy) = 6.44 + 2.40(Qc) (r = 0.963) and right lung DL (after pneumonectomy) = 7.51 + 1.75(Qc) (r = 0.958). Only approximately 7% of the increase in DL from rest to peak exercise could be attributed to the increase in Vs during exercise before pneumonectomy and approximately 15% after pneumonectomy.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Prenatal lung development requires fetal breathing movements (FBM). To investigate the dependence of FBM on feedback originating from the lung, we hypothesized that pneumonectomy stimulates FBM. Time-dated fetal sheep underwent bilateral pneumonectomy, unilateral pneumonectomy, or sham surgery at 125-130 days gestation. The incidence of FBM decreased in sham-operated fetuses at 142 days versus 130 days (p = 0.013), but was unchanged across all gestational ages in bilaterally pneumonectomized fetuses (p > or = 0.52). In unilaterally pneumonectomized fetuses, the incidence of FBM remained unchanged until 139 days and was higher than that of the bilaterally pneumonectomized fetuses at 130-136 days gestation (p < or = 0.03). The amplitude of integrated diaphragmatic electromyographic activity (integralEMG(di)) and total respiratory output (frequency of breathing x integralEMG(di)) were lower in pneumonectomized fetuses versus sham-operated fetuses at later gestational ages (p < 0.05). These decreases in integralEMG(di) and total respiratory output were most pronounced at 142 days in bilaterally pneumonectomized fetuses versus sham-operated fetuses (p = 0.006 and 0.016, respectively). Low-voltage electrocortical activity (ECoG) increased, and high-voltage ECoG decreased, in unilaterally pneumonectomized fetuses compared with sham-operated fetuses (p = 0.04). In conclusion, we provide new evidence that feedback from the fetal lung modulates the incidence and various components of phrenic nerve output, suggesting a positive feedback mechanism between FBM and lung development.  相似文献

To determine the role of mediastinal shift after pneumonectomy (PNX) on compensatory responses, we performed right PNX in adult dogs and replaced the resected lung with a custom-shaped inflatable silicone prosthesis. Prosthesis was inflated (Inf) to prevent mediastinal shift, or deflated (Def), allowing mediastinal shift to occur. Thoracic, lung air, and tissue volumes were measured by computerized tomography scan. Lung diffusing capacities for carbon monoxide (DL(CO)) and its components, membrane diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (Dm(CO)) and capillary blood volume (Vc), were measured at rest and during exercise by a rebreathing technique. In the Inf group, lung air volume was significantly smaller than in Def group; however, the lung became elongated and expanded by 20% via caudal displacement of the left hemidiaphragm. Consequently, rib cage volume was similar, but total thoracic volume was higher in the Inf group. Extravascular septal tissue volume was not different between groups. At a given pulmonary blood flow, DL(CO) and Dm(CO) were significantly lower in the Inf group, but Vc was similar. In one dog, delayed mediastinal shift occurred 9 mo after PNX; both lung volume and DL(CO) progressively increased over the subsequent 3 mo. We conclude that preventing mediastinal shift after PNX impairs recruitment of diffusing capacity but does not abolish expansion of the remaining lung or the compensatory increase in extravascular septal tissue volume.  相似文献

To investigate the role of lung distension in compensatory lung growth, the right lung of each of 21 adult male ferrets was replaced with a silicone rubber balloon filled with mineral oil. Three to thirteen weeks after surgery, the oil was removed through a subcutaneous port. Lung volumes were measured serially until 3-6 wk after balloon deflation. With pneumonectomy the total lung capacity (TLC) decreased to less than 50% of the preoperative value and remained essentially unchanged while the balloon was inflated. At balloon deflation, TLC and vital capacity did not change immediately, whereas functional residual capacity increased by 44%, indicating a change of 2-3 cmH2O in end-expiratory transpulmonary pressure. TLC increased by 10% within 3 days and continued to increase over the subsequent 3-5 wk by a total of 25% over TLC at balloon deflation. There was little difference in this response between animals whose balloons were deflated 3 wk after surgery and those in which deflation was delayed up to 13 wk. After pneumonectomy in the adult ferret, the remaining lung increases in volume in response to an increase in lung distension even weeks or months after surgery. The extent to which this volume increase involves lung tissue growth or depends on previous lung resection is at present unknown. This model may be useful for studies of the mechanisms by which lung distension influences lung volume and compensatory lung growth.  相似文献

In immature dogs after pneumonectomy (PNX), pulmonary viscous resistance is persistently elevated predominantly as a result of a high airway resistance (Raw). We examined the anatomical basis for this observation by using computerized tomography scans obtained from foxhounds 4-10 mo after right PNX. Airways of the left lower lobe were followed from generations z = 0 (trachea) to z = 12. By 4 mo post-PNX, airway length increased significantly relative to sham-operated dogs, but airway cross-sectional area (CSA) did not. By 10 mo post-PNX, average airway CSA was 24% above that in controls. Theoretically, the increased airway length and CSA should reduce lobar Raw by 50%. However, post-PNX airway dilatation did not normalize total CSA, and estimated resistance due to turbulence and convective acceleration increased threefold; i.e., the 50% reduction in lobar Raw would be offset by the loss of four of seven lobes. Thus the expected reduction in work of breathing in the whole animal is only ~30%, consistent with previously measured work of breathing in pneumonectomized dogs. We conclude that airway structure adapts slowly and incompletely, resulting in limited functional compensation.  相似文献

In a previous study, our laboratory showed that young dogs born at sea level (SL) and raised from 2.5 mo of age to beyond somatic maturity at a high altitude (HA) of 3,100 m show enhanced resting lung function (Johnson RL Jr, Cassidy SS, Grover RF, Schutte JE, and Epstein RH. J Appl Physiol 59: 1773-1782, 1985). To examine whether HA-induced adaptation improves pulmonary gas exchange during exercise and whether adaptation is reversible when animals return to SL before somatic maturity, we raised 2.5-mo-old foxhounds at HA (3,800 m) for 5 mo (to age 7.5 mo) before returning them to SL. Lung function was measured under anesthesia 1 mo and 2 yr after return to SL and during exercise approximately 1 yr after return. In animals exposed to HA relative to simultaneous litter-matched SL controls, resting circulating blood and erythrocyte volumes, lung volumes, septal volume estimated by a rebreathing technique, and lung tissue volume estimated by high-resolution computed tomography scan were persistently higher. Lung diffusing capacity, membrane diffusing capacity, and pulmonary capillary blood volume estimated at a given cardiac output were significantly higher in animals exposed to HA, whereas maximal oxygen uptake and hematocrit were similar between groups. We conclude that relatively short exposure to HA during somatic maturation improves long-term lung function into adulthood.  相似文献

To examine the effects of mechanical lung strain on regenerative growth of alveolar septal tissue after pneumonectomy (PNX), we replaced the right lungs of adult dogs with a custom-shaped inflatable silicone prosthesis. The prosthesis was either inflated (Inf) to maintain the mediastinum at the midline or deflated to allow mediastinal shift. The animals were euthanized approximately 15 mo later, and the lungs were fixed at a constant distending pressure. With the Inf prostheses, lung expansion, alveolar septal tissue volumes, surface areas, and diffusing capacity of the tissue-plasma barrier were significantly lower than with the deflated prostheses; the expected post-PNX tissue responses were impaired by 30-60%. Capillary blood volume was significantly higher with Inf prostheses, consistent with microvascular congestion. Measurements in the Inf group remained consistently and significantly higher than those expected for a normal left lung, indicating persistence of partial compensation. In one dog, delayed deflation of the prosthesis 9-10 mo after PNX led to vigorous lung expansion and septal tissue growth, particularly of type II epithelial cells. We conclude that mechanical lung strain is a major signal for regenerative lung growth; however, other signals are also implicated, accounting for a significant fraction of the compensatory response to PNX.  相似文献

Early onset deformity of the spine and chest wall (initiated <8 years of age) is associated with increased morbidity at adulthood relative to adolescent onset deformity of comparable severity. Presumably, inhibition of thoracic growth during late stage alveolarization leads to an irreversible loss of pulmonary growth and thoracic function; however the natural history of this disease from onset to adulthood has not been well characterized. In this study we establish a rabbit model of early onset scoliosis to establish the extent that thoracic deformity affects structural and functional respiratory development. Using a surgical right unilateral rib-tethering procedure, rib fusion with early onset scoliosis was induced in 10 young New Zealand white rabbits (3 weeks old). Progression of spine deformity, functional residual capacity, total lung capacity, and lung mass was tracked through longitudinal breath-hold computed tomography imaging up to skeletal maturity (28 weeks old). Additionally at maturity forced vital capacity and regional specific volume were calculated as functional measurements and histo-morphometry performed with the radial alveolar count as a measure of acinar complexity. Data from tethered rib rabbits were compared to age matched healthy control rabbits (N = 8). Results show unilateral rib-tethering created a progressive spinal deformity ranging from 30° to 120° curvature, the severity of which was strongly associated with pulmonary growth and functional outcomes. At maturity rabbits with deformity greater than the median (55°) had decreased body weight (89%), right (59%) and left (86%) lung mass, right (74%) and left (69%) radial alveolar count, right lung volume at total lung capacity (60%), and forced vital capacity (75%). Early treatment of spinal deformity in children may prevent pulmonary complications in adulthood and these results provide a basis for the prediction of pulmonary development from thoracic structure. This model may also have future use as a platform to evaluate treatment effectiveness.  相似文献

Loss of lung units due to pneumonectomy stimulates growth of the remaining lung. It is generally believed that regenerative lung growth involves only alveoli but not airways, a dissociated response termed "dysanaptic growth." We examined the structural response of respiratory bronchioles in immature dogs raised to maturity after right pneumonectomy. In another group of adult dogs, we also examined the effect of preventing mediastinal shift after right pneumonectomy on the response of respiratory bronchioles. In immature dogs after pneumonectomy, the volume of the remaining lung increased twofold, with no change in volume density, numerical density, or mean diameter of respiratory bronchiole, compared with that in the control lung. The number of respiratory bronchiole segments and branch points increased proportionally with lung volume. In adult dogs after pneumonectomy, prevention of mediastinal shift reduced lung strain at a given airway pressure, but lung expansion and regenerative growth of respiratory bronchiole were not eliminated. We conclude that postpneumonectomy lung growth is associated with proliferation of intra-acinar airways. The proportional growth of acinar airways and alveoli should optimize gas exchange of the regenerated lung by enhancing gas conductance and mixing efficiency within the acinus.  相似文献

Postpneumonectomy airway growth in the ferret   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
To investigate the participation of the conducting airways in compensatory growth following partial lung resection, bronchial casts of six ferrets having undergone right-sided pneumonectomy at 8 wk of age were compared with those of five sham-operated control animals. At maturity, the left lungs of the postpneumonectomy animals were 65% larger than those of the controls. Central airway cross-sectional areas at 10 specific locations in each cast were 12% larger in the postpneumonectomy animals compared with controls. To characterize the size of more peripheral airways, the size and number of the terminal bronchioles subtended by each airway in each left lower lobe cast were identified so that the fraction of the lobe served by that airway could be estimated. The characteristic cross-sectional areas of airway serving 0.7, 2.2, and 9.5% of the left lower lobe in postpneumonectomy animals were 18, 13, and 13% larger than those of controls, but this difference was statistically significant only at the two more peripheral levels. Although airway areas were larger in postpneumonectomy animals, the ratio of airway cross-sectional area to the 0.67 power of lung volume was 20-26% smaller in operated than in control animals at each of the four levels. Following pneumonectomy in the weanling ferret, central and peripheral conducting airways increase in cross-sectional area to similar degrees, but this airway growth is less than the compensatory increase in lung volume.  相似文献

We previously found that, following surgical resection of approximately 58% of lung units by right pneumonectomy (PNX) in adult canines, oxygen-diffusing capacity (Dl(O(2))) fell sufficiently to become a major factor limiting exercise capacity, although the decline was mitigated by recruitment, remodeling, and growth of the remaining lung units. To determine whether an upper limit of compensation is reached following the loss of even more lung units, we measured pulmonary gas exchange, hemodynamics, and ventilatory power requirements in adult canines during treadmill exercise following two-stage resection of approximately 70% of lung units in the presence or absence of mediastinal distortion. Results were compared with that in control animals following right PNX or thoracotomy without resection (Sham). Following 70% lung resection, peak O(2) uptake was 45% below normal. Ventilation-perfusion mismatch developed, and pulmonary arterial pressure and ventilatory power requirements became markedly elevated. In contrast, the relationship of Dl(O(2)) to cardiac output remained normal, indicating preservation of Dl(O(2))-to-cardiac output ratio and alveolar-capillary recruitment up to peak exercise. The impairment in airway and vascular function exceeded the impairment in gas exchange and imposed the major limitation to exercise following 70% resection. Mediastinal distortion further reduced air and blood flow conductance, resulting in CO(2) retention. Results suggest that adaptation of extra-acinar airways and blood vessels lagged behind that of acinar tissue. As more lung units were lost, functional compensation became limited by the disproportionately reduced convective conductance rather than by alveolar diffusion disequilibrium.  相似文献

To identify pathways involved in adult lung regeneration, we employ a unilateral pneumonectomy (PNX) model that promotes regenerative alveolarization in the remaining intact lung. We show that PNX stimulates pulmonary capillary endothelial cells (PCECs) to produce angiocrine growth factors that induce proliferation of epithelial progenitor cells supporting alveologenesis. Endothelial cells trigger expansion of cocultured epithelial cells, forming three-dimensional angiospheres reminiscent of alveolar-capillary sacs. After PNX, endothelial-specific inducible genetic ablation of Vegfr2 and Fgfr1 in mice inhibits production of MMP14, impairing alveolarization. MMP14 promotes expansion of epithelial progenitor cells by unmasking cryptic EGF-like ectodomains that activate the EGF receptor (EGFR). Consistent with this, neutralization of MMP14 impairs EGFR-mediated alveolar regeneration, whereas administration of EGF or intravascular transplantation of MMP14(+) PCECs into pneumonectomized Vegfr2/Fgfr1-deficient mice restores alveologenesis and lung inspiratory volume and compliance function. VEGFR2 and FGFR1 activation in PCECs therefore increases MMP14-dependent bioavailability of EGFR ligands to initiate and sustain alveologenesis.  相似文献
