Cenococcum geophilum Fr., one of several ectomycorrhizal species associated with black pine (Pinus thunbergii Parl.), is dominant in the coastal forests of Japan, even under adverse abiotic environmental conditions. In these forests, many tonnes of Sumipine® (fenitrothion) are applied every year to protect P. thunbergii from pine wilt disease, which is transmitted by a beetle. Here, we examined the effect of this insecticide on the species of fungi found as ectomycorrhizae on naturally regenerated P. thunbergii seedlings collected from coastal forest sites that had or had not been sprayed with fenitrothion. The proportion of C. geophilum ectomycorrhizae on black pine root tips was significantly higher in areas where fenitrothion had been applied than in areas where it had not. We measured the in vitro mycelial growth of C. geophilum as well as other ectomycorrhizal fungi of coastal black pine, Rhizopogon roseolus (Corda) Th. Fr. and Pisolithus arhizus (Scop.) Rauschert, at three levels of fenitrothion (density: 1.32 g/cm3), i.e., 0, 0.1 and 0.2 mL L?1. The growth of all three species decreased significantly as the fenitrothion dosage increased. However, the reduction of mycelial growth in response to fenitrothion was lower in C. geophilum than in the other two species. These results suggest that C. geophilum has a high tolerance for fenitrothion, which may explain its dominance over other ectomycorrhizal species in coastal forests in Japan where fenitrothion is routinely sprayed.

We investigated the ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungal colonization status of Pinus thunbergii mature trees and regenerating seedlings varying in age in coastal pine forests on the east coast of Korea. We established one 20 × 20-m plot at each of two study sites at P. thunbergii coastal forests in Samcheok. Fifty soil blocks (5 × 5 × 15 cm) were sampled at regular intervals, and ten P. thunbergii seedlings of age 0, 1–3, 3–5, and 5–10 years were sampled in each study plot. In total of 27 ECM fungal taxa, Cenococcum geophilum was dominant, followed by Russula sp., Sebacina sp., and unidentified Cortinuris sp. in mature trees. In 0-year-old seedlings, some fungal species such as Sebacina sp., C. geophilum, and unidentified Cortinarius sp. were dominant whereas only C. geophilum was dominant after 1 year, and there were no apparent succession patterns in ECM fungal compositions beyond a host age of 1 year. Most ECM fungal taxa that had colonized seedlings of each age class were also observed in roots of mature trees in each site. These taxa accounted for 86.7–100% and 96.4–98.4% of ECM abundance in seedlings and mature trees, respectively. The results indicate that the species composition of ECM fungal taxa colonizing seedlings of different age in forests is similar to that of surrounding mature trees. Our results also showed that C. geophilum is a common and dominant ECM fungus in P. thunbergii coastal forests and might play a significant role in their regeneration.  相似文献

The study was carried out in the Pinus roxburghii Sargent (Chir pine) forest in the sub-tropical region of Garhwal Himalaya to assess the effect of fire on soil nutrient status at different altitudes (700 m, 800 m and 1000 m), soil depths (0–20 cm, 20–40 cm and 40–60 cm) and on under storey vegetation. The soil nutrients and under storey vegetation were assessed before fire (pre-fire) and after fire (post-fire). The results of the study indicate that fire plays an important role in soil nutrient status and under storey vegetation. The nutrients (soil organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium), decreased in post-fire assessment and with increasing altitudes, and soil depths, compared to pre-fire assessment. The under storey vegetation diminished after fire in all forest sites. The study concludes that in Chir pine forest, fire plays a role in reducing soil nutrients along the altitudinal gradient, soil depths and under storey vegetation. Thus, these nutrients can be saved through some management practices e.g. by early controlled burning and by educating local villagers about the negative impacts of severe wild fires on soil and vegetation.  相似文献

The climate (especially temperature) often plays an important role in the structure, function as well as composition of soil organisms in different latitudes and altitudes. As one of the essential components of soil ecosystem, soil faunal community not only lays their roles as soil engineer in material cycling and energy flow, but also acts as the sensitive bio-indicator to environmental change. However, little information has been available on the responses of soil faunal community to the changed environment at different altitudes and seasons. In order to understand the seasonal dynamics of soil faunal diversity under different forests with varying altitudes, three fir (Abies faxoniana) forests were selected covering a 600 m vertical transition zone. The primary fir forest at 3600 m (A1) of altitude, mixed fir and birch forest at 3300 m (A2) of altitude, and secondary fir forest at 3000 m (A3) of altitude are representative forests in the subalpine and alpine region of west Sichuan. A 2 years study was conducted in the three subalpine and alpine forests from May in 2009 until October in 2010. Soil samples were collected in both the soil organic layer and mineral soil layer. Soil macro-fauna were picked up by hand in the fields. Meso/micro-fauna and damp living fauna were separated and collected from the soil samples by Baermann and Tullgren methods in laboratory, respectively. A total of 74,827 individuals were collected in the 2 years, belonging to seven phyla, 16 classes, 31 orders and 125 families by preliminary identification. Similar dominant groups were detected in different forests at different altitudes, consisting of Spirostreptida, Formicidae, Staphylinidae, Hesperinidae, Onychiuridae, Isotomidae, Oribatuloidae, Alicoragiidae, Secernentea, and Adenophorea. In contrast, the ordinary species of macro-fauna and the ratios of Acarina to Collembolan were obviously different. For instance, the ordinary species were dominated by Cydmaenidae and Mycetophilidae at the A1, Scaphidiidae and Helicinidae at the A2, and Lumbricida and Agelenidae at the A3, respectively. Both the individual density and the number of soil faunal groups were significantly higher in soil organic layer than those in mineral soil layer. The density and group of macro-, meso- and micro-fauna in different forests showed the order as A2 > A1 > A3, but the density of damp living fauna showed the order as A1 > A2 > A3. The functional groups of macro-fauna were mainly dominated by saprozoic. The highest density and group of macro-fauna was observed in August, while the highest value of meso/micro-fauna was detected in October. In addition, the Jacard similarity indices showed that the composition and structure of soil fauna were similar in the different forests varied with altitudes, but the Shannon–Wiener indices were significantly different. The highest values of Shannon–Wiener indices were observed in October at both the A1 and A3, and in August at the A2. The results suggested that soil faunal community kept a high diversity in the subalpine and alpine forests of west Sichuan, and their structures were significantly affected by the variation of altitudes, which provided important scientific evidences for understanding the ecological processes in the subalpine and alpine coniferous forests.  相似文献

Community structure and species richness of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Phylum Glomeromycota) were studied in sand dune sites at Itapiruba (southern), Joaquina (intermediate) and Praia Grande (northern) beaches along the coast of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. In each site, a 20 × 20 m plot was established and 20 soil samples collected in a regular grid pattern. Fungal spores were extracted from each sample, counted and identified to species level. A total of 25 species were recovered belonging to seven genera and five families in the Glomeromycota. Gigaspora albida and Acaulospora scrobiculata occurred in >50 % of samples at all three sites. Other common species whose sample frequency was >50 % in one or two sites were Scutellospora weresubiae, Scutellospora cerradensis and Racocetra gregaria, while the remaining majority of species were detected in <25 % of samples within a given site. Dune sites could be differentiated based on the higher frequency of occurrence of S. cerradensis and Acaulospora morrowiae in Itapiruba, S. weresubiae in Joaquina, and Scutellospora hawaiiensis in Praia Grande. No differences across sites were observed for species richness and total spore numbers, the latter averaging from 28.8 to 31.8 spores per 100 ml soil. Shannon diversity was significantly higher in Praia Grande compared to the other two sites. Differences in the relative spore abundance of genera among dunes were detected only for Scutellospora, which was significantly more abundant in the Joaquina beach. Community structure, as depicted by species rank/log abundance graphs, was not significantly different between areas according to the Kolmogorov–Smirnov two-sample test. Species accumulation curves demonstrated that 13 samples were enough to detect 90 % of all species. Overall, sand dune systems share similar arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities despite being geographically distant (150 km) from each other.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to determine the short-term effects of fire on nitrogen and phosphorus soil concentration in heathland sites dominated by Calluna vulgaris in the Cantabrian Mountain range (NW Spain). Three C. vulgaris heathlands sites (San Isidro, Riopinos I and Riopinos II) were selected. In June 2005, one plot (20 m × 20 m) per site was subjected to an experimental fire and the other was used as a control. Immediately after the fire, ten ash samples and ten soil samples (at a depth of 5 cm) were collected and thoroughly mixed. Soil moisture, temperature, total N, NH4+, NO3?, total P, available P and pH were determined in each sample. The quantity of ashes deposited was 300 g/m2, with a pH of 9, low N content but higher P concentrations. Significant differences in temperature and soil moisture were detected between the fire-treated and control plots. No significant differences for soil pH, total and available P, total N and NO3? concentration were found between the treatments. However, the concentration of ammoniacal-N indicated a significant increase 11 months post-fire and was produced by the changes in environmental soil conditions after the fire. Our results show that low intensity fires do not modify the concentration of N and P in the soil. However, post-fire conditions favour an increase in ammoniacal-N one year later.  相似文献

Little information is available to assess the dynamic changes in wetland soil quality in coastal regions, though it is essential for wetland conservation and management. Soil samples were collected in Suaeda salsa wetlands (SWs), Tamarix chinensis wetlands (TWs), Suaeda salsaTamarix chinensis wetlands (STWs), freshwater Phragmites australis wetlands (FPWs) and saltwater Phragmites australis wetlands (SPWs) in three sampling periods (i.e., summer and autumn of 2007 and spring of 2008). According to the flooding characteristics of these wetlands, the study area could be grouped into three sub-regions: short-term flooding region (STFR), seasonal flooding region (SFR) and tidal flooding region (TFR). Soil quality was evaluated using the soil quality index (SQI), which was calculated using the selected minimum data set (MDS) based on principal components analysis (PCA). Our results showed that soil salt content (SSC), total carbon (TC), magnesium (Mg), nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) and total sulfur (TS) consisted of a MDS among 13 soil properties. The SQI values varied from 0.18 to 0.66 for all soil samples, of which the highest and lowest SQI values were observed in TFR. The average SQI values were significantly higher in summer (0.50 ± 0.13) than in spring (0.37 ± 0.13) and autumn (0.36 ± 0.11) in the whole study area (p < 0.05). The average SQI values followed the order STFR (0.44 ± 0.12) > TFR (0.41 ± 0.15) > SFR (0.35 ± 0.09) although no significant differences were observed among the three regions (p > 0.05). SPWs and SWs soils showed higher SQI values (0.50 ± 0.10 and 0.47 ± 0.15, respectively) than TWs (0.30 ± 0.08) soils (p < 0.05). The SSC was the dominant factor of soil quality with its proportion of 34.1% contributing to the SQI values, followed by TC (24.5%) and Mg (24.1%). Correlation analysis also showed that SQI values were significantly negatively correlated with SSC. SSC might be a characteristic indicator of wetland soil quality assessment in coastal regions. The findings of this study showed that the SQI based on MDS is a powerful tool for wetland soil quality assessment.  相似文献

The floodplain forests in the Amazon basin suffer from the continued exploitation of natural resources and, after being disturbed, show slow and sometimes irreversible recovery. Our goal was to create an index that could be used to assess the relative level of human disturbance in floodplain forests and determine the relative importance of different types of disturbance on a given site and between sites. The index proposed here (Flooded Forest Anthropization Index – FFAI) assesses human disturbance on a local scale and is composed by 15 indicators divided into three groups that represent different levels of impact: (1) simplification of ecosystems and reduction of local diversity; (2) ecosystem replacement/destruction; (3) disturbances with the potential to impact the ecosystem in both ways. The FFAI proved to be robust and revealed a wide range of values in the evaluated landscapes. The sites classified a priori as more anthropogenic showed significantly higher FFAI values than the less anthropogenic ones (0.14 ± 0.05 and 0.08 ± 0.02, respectively, F = 18.9, df = 19, p < 0.0001). The FFAI enabled a comprehensive assessment of human disturbance on a local scale in Amazonian floodplain forests and can be a useful tool for decision makers in choosing priority areas for interventions and for targeting the type of intervention that must be carried out. Although specific to floodplains, the index can be adjusted to be used in other ecosystems.  相似文献

Crepis capillaris, Hieracium pilosella, and Hypochaeris radicata were investigated for the influence of the altitude of the collection site on the content of phenolics within the flowering heads. These three taxa from the Lactuceae tribe of the Asteraceae family originate from Europe and are now widespread within New Zealand. Flowering heads collected from different altitudes ranging from 180 m to 1060 m (C. capillaris), from 190 to 1290 m (H. pilosella), and from 20 m to 1290 m (H. radicata), respectively, were extracted and analysed by high performance liquid chromatography. Results showed a positive correlation between the altitude of the growing site and the contents of flavonoids and phenolic acids for all investigated taxa. The altitudinal effect was, however, partially concealed by geographic differences between coastal and inland collection sites, with the inland collections containing higher concentrations of flavonoids and phenolic acids than plants collected from the coast. The results are discussed in the light of a putative UV-B protective function of the quantified compounds and of the immigration histories of the three species at hand.  相似文献

Fire can influence the microclimate of forest habitats by removing understory vegetation and surface debris. Temperature is often higher in recently burned forests owing to increased light penetration through the open understory. Because physiological processes are sensitive to temperature in ectotherms, we expected fire-maintained forests to improve the suitability of the thermal environment for turtles, and for turtles to seasonally associate with the most thermally-optimal habitats. Using a laboratory thermal gradient, we determined the thermal preference range (Tset) of eastern box turtles, Terrapene carolina, to be 27–31 °C. Physical models simulating the body temperatures experienced by turtles in the field revealed that surface environments in a fire-maintained longleaf pine forest were 3 °C warmer than adjacent unburned mixed hardwood/pine forests, but the fire-maintained forest was never of superior thermal quality owing to wider Te fluctuations above Tset and exposure to extreme and potentially lethal temperatures. Radiotracked turtles using fire-managed longleaf pine forests maintained shell temperatures (Ts) approximately 2 °C above those at a nearby unburned forest, but we observed only moderate seasonal changes in habitat use which were inconsistent with thermoregulatory behavior. We conclude that turtles were not responding strongly to the thermal heterogeneity generated by fire in our system, and that other aspects of the environment are likely more important in shaping habitat associations.  相似文献

A toxic bloom of Pseudo-nitzschia spp. was observed in the Alabama coastal waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico (NGOM) in June 2009 that resulted in the accumulation of domoic acid (DA) in fish. The bloom initiated following a large storm event that likely caused increased groundwater discharge 16–20 days prior to peak densities. Eleven sites, located in littoral shoreline waters and inshore embayments spanning the entire Alabama NGOM coastline, were sampled during peak densities to assess Pseudo-nitzschia species composition and toxicity, and associated water-quality parameters. Small fish (0.27–11.9 g body weight) were collected at six of these sites for analysis of DA content. High Pseudo-nitzschia spp. densities (8.27 × 104–5.05 × 106 cell l−1) were detected at eight sites located in the littoral shoreline and particulate DA was detected at six of these littoral sites (48.0–540 pg ml−1). The bloom consisted primarily (>90%) of Pseudo-nitzschia subfraudulenta, a species previously characterized as forming only a minor component of Pseudo-nitzschia assemblages and not known to produce DA. Pseudo-nitzschia spp. were at low densities or not detected at the inshore sites and DA was detected at these sites. Pseudo-nitzschia spp. density varied along an estuarine gradient, with greater densities occurring in the most saline, clear, and nutrient-poor waters. Cell density was strongly and negatively correlated with silicate (Si) concentrations and the ratios of silicate to dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphate (Si:DIN and Si:PO4). Cell toxin quota was negatively correlated with phosphate, and strongly and positively correlated with the ratio of total nitrogen to total phosphorus (TN:TP). These relationships are consistent with previous observations that indicate Pseudo-nitzschia spp. density and toxicity are likely to be greater in high salinity, high irradiance, and nutrient-poor waters. DA was detected in 128 of 131 (98%) of the fish collected, which included seven primary and secondary consumer species. This is the first demonstration of trophic transfer of DA in this region of the NGOM, indicating that toxic blooms of Pseudo-nitzschia spp. in Alabama coastal waters have the potential to transfer DA to recreationally and commercially important fish species.  相似文献

We present a network of thirteen annual ring-width chronologies from high elevation whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis Engelm.) sites in the western Canadian Cordillera in order to assess the dendroclimatic potential of this long-lived tree species. The temperature signal within the chronologies is complex and strongly influenced by diverging trends in the summer temperature and ring-width records from across the region. A first differences transformation of the tree-ring and temperature records illustrates a loss of frequency coherence in growth response to summer temperatures following reduced radial growth in the 1950s. Prior to reduced growth, we note a positive association with summer temperatures for both first differenced (rd = 0.60) and traditional (r = 0.50) records. Following reduced growth, the association at first differences is maintained (rd = 0.49) whereas there is a change in the lower frequency component of tree growth response to summer temperatures (r = ?0.34). We suggest the cause of this reduced temperature sensitivity is related to the interaction between diurnal temperature and cloud cover patterns, the hydrological regime of snowpack, and site conditions which have been amenable to the initiation of moisture stress during the latter half of the 20th century. Reduced radial growth is coincident with the arrival of white pine blister rust (Cronatium ribicola J.C. Fisch. ex Raben) into the study region which suggests this infestation may be related to the observed reduction in radial growth. Whitebark pine has considerable potential for the field of dendroclimatology. Unfortunately, the decline of the species due to the combined effects of climate change, white pine blister rust, mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopk.), and forest fire exclusion practices indicate this potential may remain unfulfilled.  相似文献

This study investigates the potential of using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) to estimate root zone soil moisture at native in-situ measured sites, and at distant sites under the same climatic setting. We obtained in-situ data from Soil Climate Analysis Network (SCAN) sites near the Texas-New Mexico border area, and NDVI and EVI products from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on board the Terra satellite. Results show that soil moisture values of the same depth are highly correlated (r = 0.53 to 0.85) among sites as far as 150 km apart, and that NDVI and EVI are highly correlated at the same site (r = 0.87 to 0.91). Correlation based on raw time series of NDVI and soil moisture is in general higher than that based on deseasonalized time series at every depth. The correlation reaches maximum value when vegetation index (VI) lags soil moisture by 5 to 10 days. NDVI shows a slightly higher correlation with soil moisture than EVI does by using the deseasonalized time series of NDVI and soil moisture. It is found that deseasonalized time series of NDVI and soil moisture are correlated at native sites (r = 0.33 to 0.77), but not at sites where soil moisture is very low. Regression analysis was conducted using deseasonalized time series soil moisture and deseasonalized time series NDVI with a 5-day time lag. Regression models developed at one site and applied to a similar distant site can estimate soil moistures, accounting for 50–88% of the variation in observed soil moistures.  相似文献

In order to assess the possible health risk associated with the consumption of vegetables harvested from waste dump sites, trace metal levels in Spinacia oleracea planted in soils collected from waste dump sites were investigated. Soil samples from different waste dump sites and mining areas were collected and placed in different pots. Seedlings of S. oleracea were introduced into the pots, harvested after 3 months and analysed for trace metal contents using ICP-MS. From the leaves of the plants, the concentration of Fe was found to be significantly higher than all other trace metals (p < 0.05). The trend in trace metal accumulation from the leaves was in the order Fe > Mn > Zn > Pb > Cu > Cr > Ni > Cd. A significantly different concentration of trace metals in the plant was noticed from different soils in different pots used (p < 0.05). Trace metal concentration from plant parts showed roots > leaves > stem. The risk to human health indicated as Hazard Quotient (HQ) was highest for Zn followed by Cu from all the plant parts. The HQ result showed that humans might be at risk if they consume spinach from these waste dump sites. From the study it was concluded that harvesting/consuming spinach from soil around a waste dump site may be extremely dangerous.  相似文献

Several studies have argued that under field conditions plant–soil feedback may be related to the local density of a plant species, but plant–soil feedback is often studied by comparing conspecific and heterospecific soils or by using mixed soil samples collected from different locations and plant densities. We examined whether the growth of the early successional species Jacobaea vulgaris in soil collected from the field is related to the local variation in plant density of this species. In a grassland restoration site, we selected eight 8 m × 8 m plots, four with high and four with low densities of J. vulgaris plants. In 16 subplots in each plot we recorded the density and size of J. vulgaris, and characteristics of the vegetation and the soil chemistry. Soil collected from each subplot was used in a greenhouse pot-experiment to study the growth of J. vulgaris, both in pure field soil and in sterile soil inoculated with a small part of field soil.In the field, flowering J. vulgaris plants were taller, the percentage of rosette plants was higher and seed density was larger in High- than in Low-density plots. In the pot experiment, J. vulgaris had a negative plant–soil feedback, but biomass was also lower in soil collected from High- than from Low-density plots, although only when growing in inoculated soil. Regression analyses showed that J. vulgaris biomass of plants growing in pure soil was related to soil nutrients, but also to J. vulgaris density in the field. We conclude that in the field there is local variation in the negative plant–soil feedback of J. vulgaris and that this variation can be explained by the local density of J. vulgaris, but also by other factors such as nutrient availability.  相似文献

Spores and sclerotia are the main propagules that allow fungi to persist through unfavorable conditions and disperse into new environments. Despite their importance, very little is known about their longevity and dormancy, especially in ectomycorrhizal fungi. To assess the viability of ectomycorrhizal fungal spores in forest soil, we collected and buried non-sterile forest soil, in pots, in the field distant from an inoculum source. After 6 yr, a subset of this soil was assayed for viable spores by baiting the fungi with Bishop pine (Pinus muricata) seedlings. Our results show that the three most frequent colonizers in year 1 continued to colonize significant percentages of seedlings in year 6: Wilcoxina mikolae (77 %), Rhizopogon vulgaris (13 %) and Suillus brevipes (9 %). While three species that colonized low percentages of seedlings in year 1, Suillus pungens (1 %), Rhizopogon salebrosus (2 %), and Thelephora terrestris (5 %) were not recovered in year 6. Laccaria proxima, a species not seen in year 1, was recovered on a single seedling in year 6. This is the first report of long-term survival of S. brevipes and W. mikolae. Our results reveal a more complete picture of ectomycorrhizal fungal spore longevity in soil spore banks.  相似文献

The veiled polypore, Cryptoporus volvatus, is distributed widely in North America and East Asia and is believed to have a mutualistic relationship with coleopteran species—the fungus providing food and shelter in basidiocarps and beetle helping disperse spores.Seventy fresh basidiocarps of C. volvatus were collected from the Japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora) in the spring season of 2013 from two sites in Korea. A total of 251 insects (101 adult and 150 larvae) were collected from the inside of basidiocarps and identified using morphology and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences. Six species belonging to five coleopteran families were identified. The number of spores attached to the bodies of adult insects was counted and average spore counts for each of the six species ranged between 1.0 × 104 and 5.2 × 105 spores/individual. Across localities, three species were shared (Aethina suturalis, Trogossita japonica and Parabolitophagus felix) and carried spores at high densities on their bodies, making them more likely to aid in spore dispersal.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the suitability of TetR tetracycline-resistant bacteria as potential indicators of drug resistance, a parameter of the microbiological quality of river waters in natural reserves which are threatened by man-made pollution. The microbiological assays covered a 15-km long section of the upper reach of the Drw?ca River (Poland), a part of the European Ecological “Natura 2000” Network of nature protected areas. The quality of the investigated ecosystem was affected by surface runoffs from the river's agricultural catchment as well as outflows from three fish farms. The counts of TetR bacteria, incubated at 14 °C and 28 °C on TSA medium with sheep blood and tetracycline, were determined in river water samples. The highest counts of both bacterial groups were determined in samples collected from sites behind fish farms. A statistical analysis of the abundance of TetR14 °C and TetR28 °C bacteria revealed significant differences in the size of TetR28 °C populations at the studied sampling sites (p = 0.0011), which is why hemolytic bacteria of this group (HemTetR28 °C) were selected for further investigations. The predominant strains in the group of 86 HemTetR28 °C isolates obtained by 16S rRNA gene sequencing were Pseudomonas fluorescens (42 isolates) and Aeromonas hydrophila (28 isolates). Analyses of the identified HemTetR28 °C strains demonstrated MIC ≥256 μg/ml in more than 50% isolates. The MAR index of HemTetR28 °C was in the range of 0.67 at the control site to 1 at sites behind fish farms. The results suggest that tetracycline-resistant bacteria, in particular HemTetR28 °C, are a reliable indicator of antimicrobial resistance and the microbial quality of surface waters polluted due to human activity. The above can be attributed to several factors: (I) the highest percentage share of HemTetR28 °C among HPC28 °C was noted at sites behind fish farms, (II) tetracycline-resistant bacteria quickly respond to environmental changes, as demonstrated by the high level of resistance to tetracycline and a very high MAR index, and (III) genera/species that are easy to culture under laboratory conditions dominate in the qualitative and quantitative composition of the studied bacteria.  相似文献

We reported the Australian golden wattle as a copper stabilizer in abandoned copper mine soils earlier. Here we investigate to confirm this plant’s suitability to grow on metal contaminated mine soils based on stress indication. The seeds of Acacia pycnantha collected from mining area were germinated after heat and no heat treatment on two types of irrigation. The daily irrigated and heat treated seeds gave up to 85% germination on sandy soil. The A. pycnantha was grown under greenhouse condition in six different soils collected from abandoned copper mine at Kapunda in South Australia. Among the six soil samples, soil-1 with the highest copper concentration produced 2.05 mmol g−1 tissue of proline. Proline expression was prominent in more saline soils (1, 5 and 6) having electrical conductivity (EC) 1184, 1364 and 1256 μS, respectively. Chlorophyll a, b and carotenoid levels in plants showed a gradually decreasing trend in all the soils as experiment progressed. The plants grown on soil sample-1, containing 4083 ± 103 mg kg−1 of copper resulted in 18 ± 2 mg kg−1 accumulation in its leaf. The calcium accumulation was significant up to 11648 ± 1209 mg kg−1 in leaf. Although pore water samples showed higher Cu concentration in soils, an increased mobility of arsenic and lead was observed in all the soil samples. Our experiment points out the need for proper monitoring of revegetation processes to avoid revegetation and reclamation failure.  相似文献

In order to detect the response of trees to environmental pollution in Shenyang during the last century, tree rings of two 100+ year old Chinese pine (Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.) were analyzed for nine trace element concentrations (K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Cu, Zn, Al, Pb and Cd) and compared to local environmental change. The concentrations of Cu, Zn and Al had significant (p < 0.01) increasing trends after 1940s and correlated significantly (p < 0.01), with increasing production of nonferrous metal from local industrial processing. Concentrations of nutrient element (K, Ca and Mg) showed significant (p < 0.01) increasing trend from heartwood to sapwood with declines in the last three decades. Significant correlation between climatic factors and element concentration in tree rings were also found, in which the temperature (November to May) and relative humidity in April and May showed significant positive correlation with Ca, Zn and Cu (p < 0.05) as well as Al (p < 0.01) concentrations in tree rings. April rainfall showed significant positive correlation with K and Zn (p < 0.05) as well as Al (p < 0.01) concentration in tree rings. The results suggest that tree rings from Chinese pine in Shenyang are sensitive to environmental change and have the potential to be used as a biomonitor for the environmental pollution. The results also demonstrate the feasibility of applying dendrochemical techniques to areas with limited samples.  相似文献
