Ag presentation to CD8(+) T cells often commences immediately after infection, which facilitates their rapid expansion and control of infection. Subsequently, the primed cells undergo rapid contraction. We report that this paradigm is not followed during infection with virulent Salmonella enterica, serovar Typhimurium (ST), an intracellular bacterium that replicates within phagosomes of infected cells. Although susceptible mice die rapidly (approximately 7 days), resistant mice (129 x 1SvJ) harbor a chronic infection lasting approximately 60-90 days. Using rOVA-expressing ST (ST-OVA), we show that T cell priming is considerably delayed in the resistant mice. CD8(+) T cells that are induced during ST-OVA infection undergo delayed expansion, which peaks around day 21, and is followed by protracted contraction. Initially, ST-OVA induces a small population of cycling central phenotype (CD62L(high)IL-7Ralpha(high)CD44(high)) CD8(+) T cells. However, by day 14-21, majority of the primed CD8(+) T cells display an effector phenotype (CD62L(low)IL-7Ralpha(low)CD44(high)). Subsequently, a progressive increase in the numbers of effector memory phenotype cells (CD62L(low)IL-7Ralpha(high)CD44(high)) occurs. This differentiation program remained unchanged after accelerated removal of the pathogen with antibiotics, as majority of the primed cells displayed an effector memory phenotype even at 6 mo postinfection. Despite the chronic infection, CD8(+) T cells induced by ST-OVA were functional as they exhibited killing ability and cytokine production. Importantly, even memory CD8(+) T cells failed to undergo rapid expansion in response to ST-OVA infection, suggesting a delay in T cell priming during infection with virulent ST-OVA. Thus, phagosomal lifestyle may allow escape from host CD8(+) T cell recognition, conferring a survival advantage to the pathogen.  相似文献

Vitamin D-binding protein (DBP) has been reported to contribute to innate immunity. To verify prior in vitro and cell-based observations supporting this role, we assessed the ability of a recently developed DBP-null mouse line to recruit neutrophils and macrophages to a site of chemical inflammation. The interrupted DBP allele had been generated by homologous recombination in 129X1/SvJ embryonic stem cells and these cells were subsequently used to generate a line of DBP(-/-) (null) mice. Initial studies revealed a marked defect in the ability of these DBP(-/-) mice to recruit cells to the peritoneum after localized thioglycolate injection. However, progressive outcrossing of the DBP(-/-) mice to the C57BL/6J strain, conducted to provide a uniform genetic background for comparison of DBP-null and control mice, resulted in a progressive increase in cell recruitment by the DBP(-/-) mice and a loss in their apparent recruitment defect when compared with the DPB wild-type controls. These data suggested that the observed recruitment phenotype initially attributed to the absence of DBP was not linked to the DBP locus, but instead reflected the underlying genetic composition of the 129X1/SvJ ES cells used for the initial DBP gene disruption. A profound cell recruitment defect was confirmed in the 129X1/SvJ mice by direct analysis. Each of three commonly used inbred lines was discovered to have a distinct level of cell recruitment to a uniform stimulus (C57BL/6J > BALB/c > CD1 > 129X1/SvJ). Thus, this study failed to support a unique role for DBP in cellular recruitment during a model inflammatory response. Instead, the data revealed a novel and profound defect of cell recruitment in 129X1/SvJ mice, the strain most commonly used for gene deletion studies.  相似文献

Malarial infection during pregnancy has been associated with maternal anemia and death, abortion, still-birth and is a major cause of low birth weight, an important risk factor for infant morbidity and mortality in endemic areas. The present study was designed to delineate the oxidative stress in various organs (liver, spleen, kidney, brain and placenta) of pregnant Plasmodium berghei infected BALB/c mice. It was observed that pregnant-infected mice had higher parasitaemia than nonpregnant-infected mice. Most notably, levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a measure of lipid peroxidation, reduced glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels were significantly higher in the liver, spleen, kidney and brain of pregnant-infected mice compared with pregnant mice. Although MDA levels were significantly higher, GSH and SOD levels remained unaltered in the placenta of pregnant-infected mice compared with pregnant mice. Furthermore, catalase activity was significantly lower in all the organs of pregnant-infected mice compared with pregnant mice. Histopathological observations in the organs clearly show the cellular and morphological alterations that may be occurring due to increased lipid peroxidation. Taken together, the data suggest that the increased severity of malarial infection during pregnancy may be due to accentuated oxidative stress.  相似文献

Malaria infection during pregnancy is a risk factor for foetus survival and is associated with abortion, premature delivery and low birth weight of infants in malaria endemic regions. In these regions, prophylactic measures and treatment mainly rely on chloroquine and sulphadoxine pyrimethamine, but their efficacy in reducing the placental pathology has not been studied. Therefore, the present study was designed to assess the effectiveness of chloroquine and sulphadoxine pyrimethamine treatment in reducing the placental pathology of Plasmodium berghei infected BALB/c mice. It was observed that pregnant-infected mice, treated either with chloroquine or sulphadoxine pyrimethamine had significantly lower percent parasitaemia, 100% survival and delivered normally compared with untreated pregnant-infected mice. Interestingly, antimalarial treatment significantly reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, measure of lipid peroxidation and number of apoptotic cells in the placentae of pregnant-infected treated mice. Histologically also no morphological and cellular alterations were observed in the placentae of pregnant-infected treated mice. Taken together, the study shows the effectiveness of chloroquine and sulphadoxine pyrimethamine treatment, when administered in second trimester in abrogating malaria induced oxidative stress, apoptosis and histopathological alterations in the placenta, leading to normal foetal development.  相似文献

CD23, the low affinity IgE receptor, is hypothesized to function as a negative regulator of IgE production. Upon discovering reduced CD23 surface levels in 129/SvJ inbred mice, we sought to further investigate 129/SvJ CD23 and to examine its influence on IgE levels. Five amino acid substitutions were found in 129/SvJ CD23. Identical mutations were also observed in CD23 from New Zealand Black and 129P1/ReJ mice. 129/SvJ B cells proliferated more rapidly than those from BALB/c after stimulation with IL-4 and CD40 ligand trimer. However, in vitro IgE levels in supernatants from stimulated 129/SvJ B cells were significantly reduced. Contrary to the in vitro findings, the 129/SvJ CD23 mutations correlated with a hyper IgE phenotype in vivo and 129/SvJ were able to clear Nippostrongylus brasiliensis infection more rapidly than either BALB/c or C57BL/6. Overall, this study further suggests that CD23 is an important regulatory factor for IgE production.  相似文献

Various components of innate and adaptive immunity contribute to host defenses against Plasmodium infection. We investigated the contribution of NK cells to the immune response to primary infection with Plasmodium yoelii sporozoites in C57BL/6 mice. We found that hepatic and splenic NK cells were activated during infection and displayed different phenotypic and functional properties. The number of hepatic NK cells increased whereas the number of splenic NK cells decreased. Expression of the Ly49 repertoire was modified in the spleen but not in the liver. Splenic and hepatic NK cells have a different inflammatory cytokines profile production. In addition, liver NK cells were cytotoxic to YAC-1 cells and P. yoelii liver stages in vitro but not to erythrocytic stages. No such activity was observed with splenic NK cells from infected mice. These in vitro results were confirmed by the in vivo observation that Rag2(-/-) mice were more resistant to sporozoite infection than Rag2(-/-) gamma c(-/-) mice, whereas survival rates were similar for the two strains following blood-stage infection. Thus, NK cells are involved in early immune mechanisms controlling Plasmodium infection, mostly at the pre-erythrocytic stage.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to extend our previous findings as to the role of murine NK cells in host protection to a challenge infection with virulent Salmonella typhimurium SR-11. B6D2F1 mice were depleted of NK cells with anti-asialo GM1 or a monoclonal antibody, anti-NK 1.1, followed by a salmonellae challenge. Significantly decreased numbers of splenic bacteria (P less than 0.005) in the NK cell-depleted mice were note at 12, 24, and 48 hr postchallenging, compared to the sham-injected control animals. When Percoll gradient-enriched large granular lymphocytes (NK cells) were adoptively transferred to NK cell-depleted mice followed by challenging, the splenic bacterial numbers were comparable to those present in NK cell-intact, control mice. These data indicate that large granular lymphocytes (NK cells) are responsible for the down-regulation of the protective host response in mice challenged with the facultative intracellular parasite. It is known that aging decreases natural resistance to viral diseases due to dysfunctional innate and adaptive immune responses, but the nature of these dysfunctions, particularly in regard to innate immunity, is not well understood. We have previously shown that C57BL/6J (B6) mice lose their natural resistance to footpad infection with ectromelia virus (ECTV) due to impaired maturation and recruitment of natural killer (NK) cells to the draining popliteal lymph node (dLN). More recently, we have also shown that in young B6 mice infected with ECTV, the recruitment of NK cells is dependent on a complex cascade whereby migratory dendritic cells (mDCs) traffic from the skin to the dLN, where they produce CCL2 and CCL7 to recruit inflammatory monocytes (iMOs). In the dLN, mDCs also upregulate NKG2D ligands to induce interferon gamma (IFN‐γ) expression by group 1 innate lymphoid cells (G1‐ILCs), mostly NK in cells but also some ILC1. In response to the IFN‐γ, the incoming uninfected iMOs secret CXCL9 to recruit the critical NK cells. Here, we show that in aged B6 mice, the trafficking of mDCs to the dLN in response to ECTV is decreased, resulting in impaired IFN‐γ expression by G1‐ILCs, reduced accumulation of iMOs, and attenuated CXCL9 production by iMOs, which likely contributes to decrease in NK cell recruitment. Together, these data indicate that defects in the mDC response to viral infection during aging result in a reduced innate immune response in the dLN and contribute to increased susceptibility to viral disease in the aged.  相似文献

The lysosomal membrane transporter, Nramp1, plays a key role in innate immunity and resistance to infection with intracellular pathogens such as non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS). NTS-susceptible C57BL/6 (B6) mice, which express the mutant Nramp1D169 allele, are unable to control acute infection with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium following intraperitoneal or oral inoculation. Introducing functional Nramp1G169 into the B6 host background, either by constructing a congenic strain carrying Nramp1G169 from resistant A/J mice (Nramp-Cg) or overexpressing Nramp1G169 from a transgene (Nramp-Tg), conferred equivalent protection against acute Salmonella infection. In contrast, the contributions of Nramp1 for controlling chronic infection are more complex, involving temporal and anatomical differences in Nramp1-dependent host responses. Nramp-Cg, Nramp-Tg and NTS-resistant 129×1/SvJ mice survived oral Salmonella infection equally well for the first 2–3 weeks, providing evidence that Nramp1 contributes to the initial control of NTS bacteremia preceding establishment of chronic Salmonella infection. By day 30, increased host Nramp1 expression (Tg>Cg) provided greater protection as indicated by decreased splenic bacterial colonization (Tg<Cg). However, despite controlling bacterial growth within MLN as effectively as 129×1/SvJ mice, Nramp-Cg and Nramp-Tg mice eventually succumbed to infection. These data indicate: 1) discrete, anatomically localized host resistance is conferred by Nramp1 expression in NTS-susceptible mice, 2) restriction of systemic bacterial growth in the spleens of NTS-susceptible mice is enhanced by Nramp1 expression and dose-dependent, and 3) host genes other than Nramp1 also contribute to the ability of NTS-resistant 129×1/SvJ mice to control bacterial replication during chronic infection.  相似文献

Interleukin-15 (IL-15) is essential for the development, maturation, and function of NK and NKT cells, which are critical components of the innate immune defense against viral infections. We recently showed that mice lacking IL-15 and/or NK/NKT cells are significantly more susceptible to intravaginal (IVAG) herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection than control mice. For this study, we examined whether IL-15 has any direct antiviral activity, independent of NK/NKT cells, in innate protection against HSV-2 infection. A sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for murine IL-15 was developed and used to show that IVAG HSV-2 infection induces IL-15 in vaginal washes. Using immunohistochemistry, we detected IL-15-positive cells in the submucosa and vaginal epithelium following IVAG HSV-2 infection. Local, but not systemic, delivery of murine recombinant IL-15 (mrIL-15) to the genital mucosae of IL-15(-/-) and RAG-2(-/-) gamma(c)(-/-) mice, which both lack NK and NKT cells, resulted in significant reductions in HSV-2 titers in genital washes and 60% survival following IVAG HSV-2 challenge. Furthermore, we showed that IL-15 is important for CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN)-induced innate protection against genital HSV-2 infection. While 100% of CpG ODN-treated RAG2(-/-) gamma(c)(-/-) mice, which are capable of producing IL-15 but lack NK/NKT cells, survived an IVAG HSV-2 challenge, only 60% of CpG ODN-treated IL-15(-/-) mice survived, and all of these mice had similar vaginal viral titers to those in control mice by day 3 postchallenge. Lastly, a treatment of RAW264.7 cells with mrIL-15 induced the production of tumor necrosis factor alpha and beta interferon (IFN-beta), but not IFN-alpha, and significantly protected them against HSV-2 infection in vitro. The results of these studies indicate that IL-15 can act independently of NK/NKT cells in mediating the innate defense against viral infection.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Placental malaria (PM) is one major feature of malaria during pregnancy. A murine model of experimental PM using BALB/c mice infected with Plasmodium berghei ANKA was recently established, but there is need for additional PM models with different parasite/host combinations that allow to interrogate the involvement of specific host genetic factors in the placental inflammatory response to Plasmodium infection. METHODS: A mid-term infection protocol was used to test PM induction by three P. berghei parasite lines, derived from the K173, NK65 and ANKA strains of P. berghei that fail to induce cerebral malaria (CM) in the susceptible C57BL/6 mice. Parasitaemia course, pregnancy outcome and placenta pathology induced by the three parasite lines were compared. RESULTS: The three P. berghei lines were able to evoke severe PM pathology and poor pregnancy outcome features. The results indicate that parasite components required to induce PM are distinct from CM. Nevertheless, infection with parasites of the ANKADeltapm4 line, which lack expression of plasmepsin 4, displayed milder disease phenotypes associated with a strong innate immune response as compared to infections with NK65 and K173 parasites. CONCLUSIONS: Infection of pregnant C57BL/6 females with K173, NK65 and ANKADeltapm4 P. berghei parasites provide experimental systems to identify host molecular components involved in PM pathogenesis mechanisms.  相似文献

Analysis of in situ NK cell responses during viral infection.   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
NK cells are required for early control of murine CMV (MCMV) infection, but the distribution of murine NK cells in situ has not been clearly defined. We tested the reactivity of all available NK cell receptor-specific mAbs by immunohistochemistry. Only one mAb, 4D11 (anti-Ly-49G2), was reactive with C57BL/6 tissue sections. mAb 4D11-reactive cells expressed the nuclear morphology and flow cytometric profile of NK cells. In lymphoid organs, NK cells were distributed primarily in the splenic red pulp, between adjacent lobes in lymph node and randomly in the cortex and medulla of the thymus. No NK cells were detected in normal liver sections. Two days following MCMV infection, most splenic NK cells were associated with the lymphoid follicles and marginal zone. By day 3 following infection, the number of liver NK cells had increased significantly and the cells were detected within inflammatory foci. These changes were independent of IL-12, IFN-gamma, and TNF-alpha, as assessed in mice with targeted mutations. Concurrent immunostaining for NK cells and viral Ags revealed close association of NK cells and MCMV-infected cells in the spleen and liver. Similar results were obtained in CD1(-/-) and recombination activation gene-1(-/-) mice lacking NK T or T and B cells, respectively, indicating specificity of staining for NK cells. Thus, following MCMV infection, NK cells accumulate at sites of viral replication in an IL-12-, IFN-gamma-, and TNF-alpha-independent manner.  相似文献

Neutrophils are essential players in innate immune responses to bacterial infection. Despite the striking resistance of Legionella pneumophila (Lpn) to bactericidal neutrophil function, neutrophil granulocytes are important effectors in the resolution of legionellosis. Indeed, mice depleted of neutrophils were unable to clear Lpn due to a lack of the critical cytokine IFN-gamma, which is produced by NK cells. We demonstrate that this can be ascribed to a previously unappreciated role of neutrophils as major NK cell activators. In response to Lpn infection, neutrophils activate caspase-1 and produce mature IL-18, which is indispensable for the activation of NK cells. Furthermore, we show that the IL-12p70 response in Lpn-infected neutropenic mice is also severely reduced and that the Lpn-induced IFN-gamma production by NK cells is strictly dependent on IL-12. However, since dendritic cells, and not neutrophils, are the source of Lpn-induced IL-12, its paucity is a consequence of the absence of IFN-gamma produced by NK cells rather than the absence of neutrophils per se. Therefore, neutrophil-derived IL-18, in combination with dendritic cell-produced IL-12, triggers IFN-gamma synthesis in NK cells in Lpn-infected mice. We propose a novel central role for neutrophils as essential IL-18 producers and hence NK cell "helpers" in bacterial infection.  相似文献

NK cells are innate lymphocytes that mediate early host defense against viruses, such as cytomegalovirus. IL-15 is upregulated during viral infections and drives the expansion of NK cells. However, the influence of IL-15 on murine NK cell division and death rates has not been quantitatively studied. Therefore, we developed a series of two-compartment (representing quiescent and dividing NK cell subpopulations) mathematical models, incorporating different assumptions about the kinetic parameters regulating NK cell expansion. Using experimentally derived division and death rates, we tested each model's assumptions by comparing predictions of NK cell numbers with independent experimental results and demonstrated that the kinetic parameters are distinct for nondividing and dividing NK cell subpopulations. IL-15 influenced NK cell expansion by modulating recruitment and division rates to a greater extent than death rates. The observed time delay to first division could be accounted for by differences in the kinetic parameters of nondividing and dividing subsets of NK cells. Although the duration of the time delay to first division was not significantly influenced by IL-15, the recruitment of nondividing NK cells into the replicating subpopulation increased with greater IL-15 concentrations. Our model quantitatively predicted changes in NK cell accumulation when IL-15 stimulation was reduced, demonstrating that NK cell divisional commitment was interrupted when cytokine stimulation was removed. In summary, this quantitative analysis reveals novel insights into the in vitro regulation of NK cell proliferation and provides a foundation for modeling in vivo NK cell responses to viral infections.  相似文献

Innate immune response against Plasmodium falciparum (Pf), a causative agent of human malaria, is the result of several thousand years of co-evolution between the parasite and his host. An early IFN-gamma production during infection is associated with a better evolution of the disease. Natural killer (NK) cells are among the first cells in peripheral blood to produce IFN-gamma in response to Pf-infected erythrocytes (Pf-E). NK cells are found in blood, in secondary lymphoid organs as well as in peripheral non-lymphoid tissues. They participate in host innate responses that occur upon viral and intracytoplasmic bacterial infections, but also during the course of tumor development and allogeneic transplantation. These lymphocytes are not only important players of innate effector responses, but also participate in the initiation and development of adaptive immune responses. In addition, direct sensing of Pf infection by NK cells induces their production of the proinflammatory chemokine IL-8, suggesting a role for NK cells in the recruitment and the activation of other cells during malaria infection. Several other cell subsets are involved in the innate immune response to Pf. Dendritic cells, macrophages, gamma delta T cells, NKT cells are able to sense the presence of the parasite. Along this line, the presence of IL-12 is necessary to NK cell IFN-gamma production and a functional cooperation takes place between macrophages and NK cells in the context of this parasitic infection. In particular, IL-18 produced by macrophages is a key factor for this NK response. However, the molecular basis of Pf-E recognition by NK cells as well as the functional role of NK cell responses during the course of the disease remain to be adressed.  相似文献

Both peptidoglycan and muropeptides potently modulate inflammatory and innate immune responses. The secreted Listeria monocytogenes p60 autolysin digests peptidoglycan and promotes bacterial infection in vivo. Here, we report that p60 contributes to bacterial subversion of NK cell activation and innate IFN-gamma production. L. monocytogenes deficient for p60 (Deltap60) competed well for expansion in mice doubly deficient for IFNAR1 and IFN-gammaR1 or singly deficient for IFN-gammaR1, but not in wild-type, IFNAR1(-/-), or TLR2(-/-) mice. The restored competitiveness of p60-deficient bacteria suggested a specific role for p60 in bacterial subversion of IFN-gamma-mediated immune responses, since in vivo expansion of three other mutant L. monocytogenes strains (DeltaActA, DeltaNamA, and DeltaPlcB) was not complemented in IFN-gammaR1(-/-) mice. Bacterial expression of p60 was not required to induce socs1, socs3, and il10 expression in infected mouse bone marrow macrophages but did correlate with enhanced production of IL-6, IL-12p70, and most strikingly IFN-gamma. The primary source of p60-dependent innate IFN-gamma was NK cells, whereas bacterial p60 expression did not significantly alter innate IFN-gamma production by T cells. The mechanism for p60-dependent NK cell stimulation was also indirect, given that treatment with purified p60 protein failed to directly activate NK cells for IFN-gamma production. These data suggest that p60 may act on infected cells to indirectly enhance NK cell activation and increase innate IFN-gamma production, which presumably promotes early bacterial expansion through its immunoregulatory effects on bystander cells. Thus, the simultaneous induction of IFN-gamma production and factors that inhibit IFN-gamma signaling may be a common strategy for misdirection of early antibacterial immunity.  相似文献

During the innate immune response to Listeria monocytogenes (LM), the secretion of IFN-gamma is crucial in controlling bacterial numbers. We have shown recently that CD8 T cells have the ability to rapidly secrete IFN-gamma independent of Ag, in response to IL-12 and IL-18, during a LM infection. In the current study, we compared the relative abilities of NK and CD8 T cells to provide innate immune protection. Upon transfer of either NK or memory OT-I T cells (specific for the OVA protein) into IFN-gamma-deficient hosts that were infected subsequently with wild-type LM, both cell types were found in the spleen and had the ability to secrete IFN-gamma. However, the OT-I T cells were more effective at providing innate immune protection as determined by spleen and liver LM burdens. We used immunocytochemistry to demonstrate that upon infection with LM, marginal zone macrophages were localized to the T cell area of the splenic follicle. Transferred memory OT-I T cells were also found in the T cell area of the spleen, co-localizing with the LM and macrophages. In sharp contrast, NK cells were found predominantly in the red pulp region of the spleen. In addition, memory OT-I T cells were also found to be associated with LM lesions in the liver. These results highlight the importance of CD8 T cells in innate immune responses to LM and suggest that their increased protective ability compared with NK cells is the result of their colocalization with LM and macrophages.  相似文献

The sequestration of infected erythrocytes in the placenta can activate the syncytiotrophoblast to release cytokines that affect the micro-environment and influence the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to fetus. The high level of IL-10 has been reported in the intervillous space and could prevent the pathological effects. There is still no data of Th17 involvement in the pathogenesis of placental malaria. This study was conducted to reveal the influence of placental IL-17 and IL-10 levels on fetal weights in malaria placenta. Seventeen pregnant BALB/C mice were divided into control (8 pregnant mice) and treatment group (9 pregnant mice infected by Plasmodium berghei). Placental specimens stained with hematoxylin and eosin were examined to determine the level of cytoadherence by counting the infected erythrocytes in the intervillous space of placenta. Levels of IL-17 and IL-10 in the placenta were measured using ELISA. All fetuses were weighed by analytical balance. Statistical analysis using Structural Equation Modeling showed that cytoadherence caused an increased level of placental IL-17 and a decreased level of placental IL-10. Cytoadherence also caused low fetal weight. The increased level of placental IL-17 caused low fetal weight, and interestingly low fetal weight was caused by a decrease of placental IL-10. It can be concluded that low fetal weight in placental malaria is directly caused by sequestration of the parasites and indirectly by the local imbalance of IL-17 and IL-10 levels.  相似文献

Interleukin-15 (IL-15), natural killer (NK) cells, and NK T (NKT) cells, components of the innate immune system, are known to contribute to defense against pathogens, including viruses. Here we report that IL-15(-/-) (NK(-) and NKT(-/+)) mice and RAG-2(-/-)/gamma(c)(-/-) (NK(-) and NKT(-)) mice that lack all lymphoid cells were very susceptible to vaginal infection with a low dose of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). IL-15(-/-) and RAG-2(-/-)/gamma(c)(-/-) mice were 100-fold more susceptible and RAG-2(-/-), CD-1(-/-) (NKT(-)), and gamma interferon (IFN-gamma)(-/-) mice were 10-fold more susceptible to vaginal HSV-2 infection than control C57BL/6 mice. NK and/or NKT cells were the early source of IFN-gamma in vaginal secretions following genital HSV-2 infection. This study demonstrates that IL-15 and NK-NKT cells are critical for innate protection against genital HSV-2.  相似文献
