A model of the mechanical behaviour of soft connective tissue has been developed by considering the role of the collagen and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) components within the tissue in order to examine the mechanism by which a variation in the GAG components may exert a control over the mechanical properties of the tissue. It is proposed that the strain energy stored within the collagen fibrils of the loaded tissue can be transferred into a potential field created by the charged GAG components and their electrostatic interaction with the collagen fibrils. A fundamental mechanical unit is described to simulate this energy transfer and a combination of such units is used to represent the tissue. The computer implementation of the proposed tissue model shows it to reproduce many features which have been recognised in the rate dependent mechanical behaviour of soft tissues. These include the characteristic non-linearity of the force-deformation behaviour and the approximate invariance of the stress relaxation behaviour with deformation. The model is also consistent with earlier constitutive representations of tissue behaviour.  相似文献

The use of latex agglutination tests for determining Campylobacter species   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A comparison was made between three commercially available latex agglutination tests for the detection of Campylobacter. All tests showed clear agglutination with pure cultures of several Campylobacter strains in both the spiral and coccoid form. The Microscreen test was able to detect 10 times less cells than the Campyslide and Meritec tests. The latex tests were also applied to enrichment broth cultures of chicken products. Sixty-nine per cent of the Campylobacter positive enrichment broth cultures were positive with the Microscreen test. The Meritec test detected 63% of the positive samples. The Campyslide test detected only 15% of the positive samples and often showed non-specific agglutination.  相似文献

Summary The present investigation was undertaken in an effort to differentiate histochemically between sialo-mucins and acid mucopolysaccharides in connective tissues.On the basis of previous studies regarding the histochemical identification of sialic acid in sections of animal salivary glands the author applied different technical procedures on cartilage and tooth germs of newborn rats.The results obtained indicated that in the tissues examined sialic acid is a normal component of the polysaccharide fraction of the connective tissue ground substance.On leave of absence at the University of Rome, Medical School, Viale Regina Elena 287-A, Rome, Italy.  相似文献

Avascular connective tissues (cartilage, discs, cornea) change with maturation and aging, particularly in large animals, where diffusion paths are longest. It is suggested that the changes in such tissues are responses to increasing difficulties in obtaining oxygen. Two almost identical structural polymers are made in these tissues: chondroitin sulphate, which requires large amounts of oxygen for biosynthesis and keratan sulphate, which requires relatively little. The observed balance of these polymers in the tissue is proposed to depend on the control of biosynthesis by the ambient oxygen tension, and/or selective breakdown.  相似文献

The conformation of type I collagen molecules has been refined using a linked-atom least-squares procedure in conjunction with high-quality X-ray diffraction data. In many tendons these molecules pack in crystalline arrays and a careful measurement of the positions of the Bragg reflections allows the unit cell to be determined with high precision. From a further analysis of the X-ray data it can be shown that the highly ordered overlap region of the collagen fibrils consists of a crystalline array of molecular segments inclined by a small angle with respect to the fibril axis. In contrast, the gap region is less well ordered and contains molecular segments that are likely to be inclined by a similar angle but in a different vertical plane to that found in the overlap region. The collagen molecule thus has a D-periodic crimp in addition to the macroscopic crimp observed visually in the collagen fibres of many connective tissues. The growth and development of collagen fibrils have been studied by electron microscopy for a diverse range of connective tissues and the general pattern of fibril growth has been established as a function of age. In particular, relationships between fibril size distribution, the content and composition of the glycosaminoglycans in the matrix and the mechanical role played by the fibrils in the tissue have been formulated and these now seem capable of explaining many new facets of connective tissue structure and function.  相似文献

The colorimetric method was studied for the possibility to be used for the quantitative determination of silicon in the phosphorus-rich tissues. The formation of the blue silicomolybdic complex was used to colour the test solutions. It is shown that a considerable interaction between Si and P resulting in distortion of the analysis occurs in solutions containing more than 10 micrograms/ml of P. The concentration of P less than 10 micrograms/ml does not prevent from silicon determination, that evidences for the expedience of maximum dilution of biological fluids before their examination by the colorimetric method.  相似文献

Summary Subepithelial connective tissue is capable of modulating the pattern of histodifferentiation of stratified epithelia from adult animals, but it is not known whether the supporting connective tissue also influences epithelial proliferative activity. Epithelial and connective tissues of murine skin and oral mucosa, differing in their morphology and proliferative activity, were separated and heterotypically recombined prior to grafting to histocompatible hosts. After 3 or 8 weeks in situ, mitotic activity was determined following the administration of vinblastine sulfate. Although the mitotic activity in each of the epithelia could be modulated by some connective tissues, there was no distinct pattern of behavior. In combination with connective tissues from tongue or palate, the ear epidermis acquired a significantly increased mitotic activity. In contrast, when oral epithelia with high mitotic activity were recombined with dermal connective tissue, there was usually a significant reduction in proliferative activity. As there was no apparent association between mitotic activity and the induced changes in either organization or histodifferentiation, it is suggested that subepithelial connective tissue is capable of directly influencing the mitotic activity in the overlying epithelium.  相似文献

Collagen-free extracts were prepared from bovine, porcine and canine hyaline, elastic and fibrous cartilages, articular capsule, tendon, aorta, cortical bone and regenerating articular surfaces. The extracts were investigated with antisera to bovine nasal septal cartilage, dog articular cartilage and non-collagenous protein fraction of bovine cortical bone. Immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoresis, and immunohistochemical methods were used. In the different supporting tissues of the three animal species a common antigen, probably of proteoglycan origin, was demonstrated. The finer differences in antigenicity between the different tissues are probably due to the variations in proteoglycan composition of the given supporting tissues. Owing to the wide-spread occurrence of the antigen, the authors suggest the term "species-common connective tissue antigen" instead of the "species-common cartilage antigen" used so far.  相似文献

The rabbit model is commonly used to study carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). It has been proposed that the subsynovial connective tissue (SSCT) in the carpal tunnel may play a role in the etiology of CTS, but the material properties of the rabbit SSCT are unknown. The purpose of this study was to develop a method to measure the shear properties of the rabbit SSCT. In six rabbit cadaver forepaws, the excursion of the third digit flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) and load to failure of the SSCT were measured in a custom device. The mean excursion to full flexion in this model was 7.08 mm (S.D. 0.77). The mean shearing force at full flexion was 317 mN (S.D. 166). At full flexion percentage of maximum shear force in the SSCT was 54.5% (S.D. 19.4). The mean energy absorbed at full flexion was 0.29 mJ (S.D. 0.31). The mean excursion needed to reach 5% of the maximum shear force was 3.04 mm (S.D. 0.99). The testing model presented in this study demonstrates structural parameters to evaluate the shear properties of the SSCT in a rabbit model. The data presented could be used for estimating sample sizes in a more comprehensive study of the effect of CTS on the SSCT properties.  相似文献
