The purpose of this study was to investigate muscle and tendon properties in highly trained sprinters and their relations to running performance. Fifteen sprinters and 15 untrained subjects participated in this study. Muscle thickness and tendon stiffness of knee extensors and plantar flexors were measured. Sprinter muscle thickness was significantly greater than that of the untrained subjects for plantar flexors, but not for knee extensors (except for the medial side). Sprinter tendon stiffness was significantly lower than that of the untrained subjects for knee extensors, but not for plantar flexors. The best official record of a 100-m race was significantly correlated to the muscle thickness of the medial side for knee extensors. In conclusion, the tendon structures of highly trained sprinters are more compliant than those of untrained subjects for knee extensors, but not for plantar flexors. Furthermore, a thicker medial side of knee extensors was associated with greater sprinting performance.  相似文献

Carnosine (beta-alanyl-l-histidine) is present in high concentrations in human skeletal muscle. The ingestion of beta-alanine, the rate-limiting precursor of carnosine, has been shown to elevate the muscle carnosine content. We aimed to investigate, using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (proton MRS), whether oral supplementation with beta-alanine during 4 wk would elevate the calf muscle carnosine content and affect exercise performance in 400-m sprint-trained competitive athletes. Fifteen male athletes participated in a placebo-controlled, double-blind study and were supplemented orally for 4 wk with either 4.8 g/day beta-alanine or placebo. Muscle carnosine concentration was quantified in soleus and gastrocnemius by proton MRS. Performance was evaluated by isokinetic testing during five bouts of 30 maximal voluntary knee extensions, by endurance during isometric contraction at 45% maximal voluntary contraction, and by the indoor 400-m running time. beta-Alanine supplementation significantly increased the carnosine content in both the soleus (+47%) and gastrocnemius (+37%). In placebo, carnosine remained stable in soleus, while a small and significant increase of +16% occurred in gastrocnemius. Dynamic knee extension torque during the fourth and fifth bout was significantly improved with beta-alanine but not with placebo. Isometric endurance and 400-m race time were not affected by treatment. In conclusion, 1) proton MRS can be used to noninvasively quantify human muscle carnosine content; 2) muscle carnosine is increased by oral beta-alanine supplementation in sprint-trained athletes; 3) carnosine loading slightly but significantly attenuated fatigue in repeated bouts of exhaustive dynamic contractions; and 4) the increase in muscle carnosine did not improve isometric endurance or 400-m race time.  相似文献

Contingent negative variation (CNV) and reaction time were examined in four groups of eight young adult men: controls, witnesses, students in physical and athletic education, and sprinters. Subjects, except the control group, were asked to detect and respond quickly by pressing a button in the following experimental conditions: 1) simple auditory stimuli, 2) paired auditory stimuli, 3) mixed simple and paired auditory stimuli.- A higher CNV voltage and lower reaction time and reaction time variability were obvious in students in physical and athletic education and sprinters, compared to controls and witnesses. In all the groups CNV amplitude declined in the third condition, reaction time and reaction time variability augmented from condition 1 to condition 3. These results show that relationships couple attentiveness and motor activation processes. The motor activation differed for simple starter and presignalled starter conditions (conditions 1 and 2). An increase of discrimination difficulty diminished the performance.  相似文献

Introduction: This study evaluated side-to-side difference in tibial bone structure, calf muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) and hopping force in master athletes as a result of training for sports with different magnitudes of inter-leg loading difference. Methods: Tibial bone parameters (at 4%, 14%, 38% and 66% tibial length proximal to distal end), muscle CSA (at 66% tibial length) and hopping forces of both legs of 51 master athletes (conditioned jumpers, conditioned triple jumpers, unconditioned jumpers, hurdlers and sprinters) were examined using pQCT. In epiphyseal 4% slice bone CSA (Ar.tot), total BMC (vBMC.tot), trabecular BMC (vBMC.tb) cortical BMC (vBMC.ct), and trabecular BMD (vBMD.tb) were measured. In diaphyseal slices, Ar.tot, vBMC.ct, cortical density (vBMD.ct), cross-sectional moment of inertia (CSMI) and calf muscle CSA (MuscA) were examined. Results: In conditioned jumpers, side-to-side differences in favour of take-off leg were found in 4% slice in vBMC.tb (+4.1%) (P<0.05). A side-to-side difference was found in 66% slice vBMC.ct and CSMI (both P<0.05), with conditioned jumper (+2.8% and 6.6%) and triple jumper (+2.7% and 7.2%) values higher than other groups. Conclusion: The results suggest that regular training in high-impact sports with uneven lower limb loading results in side-to-side differences in skeletal adaptation independent of age and gender, suggesting that high-impact exercise is effective in maintaining bone strength throughout human lifespan.  相似文献

This study compared the effectiveness of electromyographic (EMG) biofeedback and relaxation treatment in producing flexibility increases at the hip joint. Retention of flexibility gains and changes in sprinting performance were also examined. Fifteen male and 15 female athletes, predominantly sprinters, were matched according to age, sex, and flexibility and were randomly assigned to one of three groups. The control group received only the testing, the biofeedback group received visual and auditory EMG training, and the relaxation group received modified PMR and imagery exercises. Subjects in the two experimental groups were given eight twice-weekly 10-minute sessions and then were retested for flexibility. Retention of flexibility was reassessed 2 and 4 weeks later. Sprint performance improved for all groups. EMG biofeedback and relaxation treatment methods were no more effective than stretching exercises used by the control group for improving flexibility during the treatment period, but they did produce evidence of superior flexibility gains in the retention period. This may be important as flexibility has been reported to be related to the incidence of injuries.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of training loads on metabolic response of purine derivatives in highly trained sprinters (10 men, age range 20-29 yr) in a 1-yr cycle, compared with endurance-training mode in triathletes (10 men, age range 21-28 yr). A four-time measurement of respiratory parameters, plasma hypoxanthine (Hx) concentration, and erythrocyte hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase (HGPRT) activity was administered in four characteristic training phases (general, specific, competition, and transition). A considerably lower postexercise plasma concentration of Hx in sprinters (8.1-18.0 μmol/l) than in triathletes (14.1-24.9 μmol/l) was demonstrated in all training phases. In both groups, a significant decrease in plasma Hx concentration in the competition phase and a considerable increase in the transition phase were observed. It was found that the resting erythrocyte HGPRT activity increased in the competition period and declined in the transition phase. Sprinters showed higher HGPRT activity (58.5-71.8 nmol IMP·mg Hb(-1)·h(-1)) than triathletes (55.8-66.6 nmol IMP·mg Hb(-1)·h(-1)) in all examinations. The results suggest a more effective use of anaerobic metabolic energy sources induced by sprint training characterized by higher amount of exercise in the anaerobic lactacid and the nonlactacid zone. The changes in plasma Hx concentration and erythrocyte HGPRT activity might serve as sensitive metabolic indicators in the training control, especially in sprint-trained athletes. These parameters may provide information about the energetic status of the muscles in highly trained athletes in which no significant adaptation changes are detected by means of commonly acknowledged biochemical and physiological parameters.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between sprint performance and architectural characteristics of leg muscles in 26 female 100-m sprinters. Pennation angle and muscle thickness of the vastus lateralis (VL) and gastrocnemius medialis (GM) and lateralis (GL) muscles were measured by B-mode ultrasonography, and fascicle length was estimated. Sprinters had a significantly lower VL pennation angle, but GM and GL pennation angle was similar between sprinters and female control subjects (N = 22). There was no significant correlation between pennation angle and 100-m personal best performance. Sprinters had significantly greater absolute fascicle length in VL and GL than controls, which significantly correlated to 100-m best-record (r = -0.51 and r = -0.44, respectively). Relative fascicle length (VL and GL) were also significantly greater in sprinters than controls. However, there were no significant correlation between relative fascicle length and 100-m best-record (r = -0.36 and r = -0.29, respectively). No relationship was found between the sprint performance and fat-free mass (r = -0.26) or body mass index (r = -0.03). However, there was a significant correlation between percent (%) body fat and 100-m best-record (r = 0.62, p < 0.01). Adjusting the confounding effect of % fat, significant correlations were seen between relative fascicle length and 100-m best-record (VL; r = -0.39 and GL; r = -0.40). Absolute and relative fascicle length were similar in elite female sprinters compared with previous reported values for elite male sprinters (Kumagai et al., 2000). It was concluded that longer fascicle length is associated with greater sprinting performance in sprinters, but there is no gender differences in fascicle length for elite sprinters.  相似文献

This study was carried out to compare blood lactate changes in isocapnic buffering phase in an incremental exercise test between sprinters and long distance runners, and to seek the possibility for predicting aerobic or anaerobic potential from blood lactate changes in isocapnic buffering phase. Gas exchange variables and blood lactate concentration ([lactate]) in six sprinters (SPR) and nine long distance runners (LDR) were measured during an incremental exercise test (30 W.min-1) up to subject's voluntary exhaustion on a cycle ergometer. Using a difference between [lactate] at lactate threshold (LT) and [lactate] at the onset of respiratory compensation phase (RCP) and the peak value of [lactate] obtained during a recovery period from the end of the exercise test, the relative increase in [lactate] during the isocapnic buffering phase ([lactate]ICBP) was assessed. The [lactate] at LT (mean +/- SD) was similar in both groups (1.36 +/- 0.27 for SPR vs. 1.24 +/- 0.24 mmol.l-1 for LDR), while the [lactate] at RCP and the peak value of [lactate] were found to be significantly higher in SPR than in LDR (3.61 +/- 0.33 vs. 2.36 +/- 0.45 mmol.l-1 for RCP, P < 0.001, 10.18 +/- 1.53 vs. 8.10 +/- 1.61 mmol.l-1 for peak, P < 0.05). The [lactate]ICBP showed a significantly higher value in SPR (22.5 +/- 5.9%, P < 0.05) compared to that in LDR (14.2 +/- 5.0%) as a result of a twofold greater increase of [lactate] from LT to RCP (2.25 +/- 0.49 for SPR vs. 1.12 +/- 0.39 mmol.l-1 for LDR). In addition, the [lactate]ICBP inversely correlated with oxygen uptake at LT (VO2LT, r = -0.582, P < 0.05) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max, r = -0.644, P < 0.01). The results indicate that the [lactate]ICBP is likely to give an index for the integrated metabolic, respiratory and buffering responses at the initial stage of metabolic acidosis derived from lactate accumulation.  相似文献

A total of six male and six female sprinters at the same national competition level and aged 18–20 years performed a force/velocity test and a 30-s supramaximal exercise test (Wingate test) on 2 different days, separated by a maximal interval of 15 days. The maximal anaerobic power (W max) was determined from the force/velocity test, and the mean anaerobic power (W) from the Wingate test. Immediately after the Wingate test, a 5-ml venous blood sample was drawn via a heparinized catheter in an antebrachial vein for subsequent catecholamine (adrenaline and noradrenaline) analysis. After 5 min recovery a few microlitres of capillary blood were also taken for an immediate lactate determination. Even expressed per kilogram lean body mass,W max andW were significantly lower in women. The lactate and adrenaline responses induced by the Wingate test were also less pronounced in this group whereas the noradrenaline levels were not significantly different in men and women. Above all, very different relationships appeared between lactate, adrenaline, noradenaline and W according to sex. Thus, as reported by other authors, the adrenergic response to a supramaximal exercise seemed to be lower in women than in men. Nevertheless a different training status between the two groups, even at same national competition level, could not be excluded and might contribute, at least in part, to the gender differences observed in the present study.  相似文献

Six male non-endurance trained subjects (S) and six marathon runners (M) underwent graded treadmill exercise (T) and isoproterenol stimulation (I; 2 and 4 microgram X min-1). beta-adrenergic receptor density was additionally determined as the amount of 3H-Dihydroalprenolol (DHA) specifically bound on intact polymorphonuclear leucocytes. Heart rate, VO2 uptake, lactate, plasma noradrenaline, and adrenaline were estimated during T. Heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, as well as lactate, glucose, free fatty acids (FFA), and glycerol levels in the blood were determined during I. M showed the known training-dependent responses during T, such as lower heart rates, lactate levels, and plasma catecholamines at identical work loads, as well as higher VO2 max than S. I-induced cardiac output increase was quite similar in both groups. Stroke volume, however, increased significantly in M and stayed constant in S. Lactate decreased (S), glucose increased significantly (M), glycerol increased similarly in both groups, FFA rise was less marked in S. I-induced stroke volume response (I) may be indicative of a more economic regulation of heart work in M than S. Lactate decrease and less marked FFA increase, as observed in S, may be the result of a somewhat higher cardiac energy demand, dependent on less economic heart work. Higher DHA-binding as observed in M, as well as stroke volume response and glucose increase, may be indicators of a training-dependent rise in sensitivity to catecholamines. The unsolved question is, however, to what extent beta-receptor responses in intact blood cells are significant for receptor behavior in other organs.  相似文献

Serum zinc was measured in 20 adolescent gymnasts (9 boys, 11 girls, age 12–15 yr) explored for detecting possible adverse effects of intense training on pubertal maturation and growth. They had low serum zinc (0.599±0.026 mg/L) when compared to matched control sedentary children (n=118 mean 0.81±0.014p<0.001). Girls had lower zinc than boys (0.557±0.023 vs 0.651±0.044p<0.001). Zinc was correlated to isometric adductor strength (r=0.468p<0.05). Children with serum zinc <0.6 mg/L had lower insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 than others (2.326±0.264 vs 2.699±0.12p<0.01). Thus, zinc is lowered in trained adolescent gymnasts and even lower in females. This reduction could play some role in abnormalities of puberty, growth, or muscular performance.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to present an equation that accurately predicts 1 repetition maximum (RM) over a wide range of repetitions to fatigue (RTF) for 4 different machine resistance exercises in postmenopausal women. Seventy trained women (age = 57.4 +/- 3.1 years) performed maximal and submaximal repetitions on leg press, bench press, rowing, and leg adduction machines at the conclusion of a 2-year training program. Maximal repetitions were performed on each exercise in the following ranges: 3-5RM, 6-10RM, 11-15RM, and 16-20RM. Special regard was taken to maintain the identical execution of each test (i.e., range of motion, starting angle, speed of movement). One cubic polynomial (w(i) [0.988-0.0000584 r(i)(3) + 0.00190 r(i)(2) + 0.0104 r(i),] where w(i) is the load of measurement I, and r(i) is the number of repetitions) accurately predicted 1RM from RTF with mean absolute differences between actual 1RM and predicted 1RM for the 4 exercises of 1.5-3.1% and with coefficients of variation of <3.3%. Equation accuracy was independent of the exercise type or the number of RTF. Thus, this study supported the validity of RTF to adequately estimate 1RM over a wide range of repetitions and within different exercises in trained, older female subjects.  相似文献

Glucose-stimulated insulin secretion is depressed by training. To further elucidate the beta-cell adaptation to training, a nonglucose secretagogue was applied. Arginine was infused for 90 min to seven trained and seven untrained young men. Arginine and glucose concentrations increased identically in the groups. The insulin response was biphasic and waned despite increasing arginine concentrations. Both these phases as well as C-peptide responses were reduced in trained subjects, whereas proinsulin responses were similar in the groups. Identical increases were found in glucagon, growth hormone, catecholamines, and production and disappearance of glucose; identical decreases were found in free fatty acids, glycerol, and beta-hydroxybutyrate. In conclusion, in men training diminishes both arginine- and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, indicating a profound beta-cell adaptation. Being enhanced, the effects of insulin on both production and disposal of glucose are changed in the opposite direction to beta-cell secretion by training. The responses of glucagon- and growth hormone-secreting cells to arginine do not change with training.  相似文献
