The changes of the electrical impedance in the vaginal vestibule during the oestrous cycle and the influence of sow parity on the vestibular impedance in oestrus were examined. Primiparous and multiparous sows of the Large White breed were used. Oestrus was tested via exposure of sows to a sexually mature boar. The criterion for conformation of ovulation was the increase in plasma progesterone levels above 12.5nmoll(-1) on day 8 and 12 after oestrus onset. A two-terminal method was used to measure the impedance. The vestibular impedance rose slightly in the first day after weaning. The impedance increased markedly during oestrus (P<0.01) and decreased during early dioestrus (P<0.01). No significant changes were observed thereafter. The individual sows reached the peak of vestibular impedance between 1 and 3 days after oestrus onset. The parity of sows did not significantly influence the impedance values during oestrus. The study showed that the impedance changes in the vaginal vestibule during peri-oestrus are considerably different from those described earlier in the vagina and that sow parity does not affect the vestibular impedance in oestrus.  相似文献

Researchers may place a catheter in the ear vessel of a rabbit for a short period of time in order to collect repeated blood samples without extensive restraint of the animal. Maintaining such a catheter in a healthy rabbit can be challenging, as the animal may scratch at the ear, removing the catheter or forming a large hematoma that might impede blood sampling. The authors developed a technique for protecting the indwelling catheter by cutting a section of moleskin to the same shape as the ear and gluing it to the surface of the ear and the catheter. They applied this technique to collect multiple blood samples during 12-h periods from nine rabbits in a pharmacokinetics study. Catheters remained patent in five rabbits for 12 h, in two rabbits for 8 h, in one rabbit for 6 h and in one rabbit for 4 h. This technique allowed for collection of repeated blood samples and prevented the rabbits from interfering with the catheter while allowing them to move freely during the sampling period.  相似文献

The middle ear apparatus realized a multiplicatory function during the transfer of the vibrational energy, depending on the area ratio of pars tensa of tympanic membrane and of stapes footplate as well as the lever ratio of long arms of manubrium and of incus. These structures exhibit a size increase during the postnatal development, but the sequel on the multiplicatory function in rabbits is unknown. The middle ear structures of 46 rabbits, 1 to 30 d old, were prepared and measured. The area of pars tensa and the levers of malleus and incus increase with age. After the 10th d of life, no statistical significant growth were measurable. But the calculated multiplicatory factor of single animals indicate the end of the development at the 15th postnatal d. In contrast, the cochlear function attains the adult values not till the 26th d of life. It is 10 d longer than the middle ear growth.  相似文献
