Parasite-specific IgE antibody response was examined in Strongyloides ratti-infected rats. The results showed that the parasite-specific IgE antibody response was generated after a primary infection. However, repeated infections rather depressed the level of parasite-specific IgE antibody in the serum. Immunization limited to specific stages of the parasite revealed that stimulation of parasite-specific IgE antibody was related to the intestinal adult stage. On the other hand, depression of IgE titers was related to the tissue-migrating larval stage. The capacity of the each stage of the parasite to induce specific IgE response may be related to the variable results of the IgE responses in human strongyloidiasis.  相似文献

The dry matter economy of Euphorbia adenochlora Morra et Decne was investigated in a moist tall grassland in the Tajimagahara nature reserve, which protects a riverside grassland on the Arakawa river in Saitama Prefecture, central Japan. Euphorbia adenochlora is a typical short clonal species in the flood plain meadows, but is listed as an endangered species. It starts to grow in late February, and grows fast in early April by using one-third to about half of the dry matter of the rhizomes, which are composed of annual segments up to 8–10 years of age. During the period of fastest growth in early April, the bulk density (g dry weight cm–3) of the rhizomes attained the minimum value. By the end of May, it reached its maximum. When 13CO2 was fed to the shoots by means of photosynthesis, the concentration of 13C-containing photosynthates was highest in the new rhizome segment; the older the segment the lower the concentration of 13C. Shoot-clipping of E. adenochlora in late April, when bulk density was near the minimum, greatly depressed shoot growth in the following year. At the beginning of June, all of the aerial shoots of E. adenochlora died out with the growth of tall grasses. These results suggest that E. adenochlora has a life cycle as a spring ephemeral.  相似文献

Several reproductive triats in plants were studied in more than 200 populations of 61 wild species from diverse ecological conditions. As a result, it was found that there occur three distinct types of plants in the energy allocation patterns to reproductive structures (RA) and the propagule output per plant (PN), i.e. (1) the number of propagules per plant increases in response to the increase in RA (Type I), (2) the number of propagules decreases in response to the increase in RA (Type II), and (3) the RA remains constant despite the great differences in the propagule number per plant. A conspicuous trade-off relationship was also discovered to occur between the RA to a single propagule (RA) and the propagule output per plant (PN), such that log RA=logC−blot PN, or RA=C/PN b =CPN b , where C is a constant. The three different ranges ofb-values were recognized, i.e.b<1.0,b>1.0, andb=1.0, which correspond to Type I, Type II, and Type III, respectively. In the Mediterranean area 2 subspecies of Echinococcus granulosus exist: E. g. equinus and E. g. granulosus. The latter is divided into sheep, cattle, pig and camel strains, the adult forms of which mainly occur in farm-dogs but sometimes in wild canidae. Some of these strains can infect man: namely, the sheep and the pig strain. The infectivity of the cattle strains for man is not certain. The epidemiological cycle is mainly a rural one, but it can become sylvatic or even urban. Thus, the epidemiological features of hydatidosis in the Mediterranean area are not basically different from the general epidemiology of the disease. But extensive rearing of sheep, combined with the carelessness and ignorance of people and with some particular habits, favours the maintenance of the infection.  相似文献

Ecology of siderophores, as described in the present review, analyzes the factors that allow the production and function of siderophores under various environmental conditions. Microorganisms that excrete siderophores are able to grow in natural low-iron environments by extracting residual iron from insoluble iron hydroxides, protein-bound iron or from other iron chelates. Compared to the predominantly mobile bacteria, the fungi represent mostly immobile microorganisms that rely on local nutrient concentrations. Feeding the immobile is a general strategy of fungi and plants, which depend on the local nutrient resources. This also applies to iron nutrition, which can be improved by excretion of siderophores. Most fungi produce a variety of different siderophores, which cover a wide range of physico-chemical properties in order to overcome adverse local conditions of iron solubility. Resource zones will be temporally and spatially dynamic which eventually results in conidiospore production, transport to new places and outgrow of mycelia from conidiospores. Typically, extracellular and intracellular siderophores exist in fungi which function either in transport or storage of ferric iron. Consequently, extracelluar and intracellular reduction of siderophores may occur depending on the fungal strain, although in most fungi transport of the intact siderophore iron complex has been observed. Regulation of siderophore biosynthesis is essential in fungi and allows an economic use of siderophores and metabolic resources. Finally, the chemical stability of fungal siderophores is an important aspect of microbial life in soil and in the rhizosphere. Thus, insolubility of iron in the environment is counteracted by dissolution and chelation through organic acids and siderophores by various fungi.  相似文献

The bacterial flora of the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas , the sea mussel Perna viridis and the arkshell clam Scapharca cornea differed considerably from that of seawater in both numbers and generic composition. The numbers of heterotrophic bacteria in the bivalve shellfish, including the anaerobes and spore-forming bacteria, were greater than that in the surrounding water. Pseudomonas spp. were the dominant organisms, comprising over one third of the 321 strains characterized after isolation from the bivalves and seawater. Other bacteria isolated from the shellfish included Vibrio, Acinetobacter , and Aeromonas spp., whereas the seawater flora consisted mainly of coliform organisms, coryneform bacteria and Flavobacterium/ Cytophaga spp. Bacteria associated with the deposit-feeding clams were higher in density and more distinct in generic composition as compared with those in the suspension-feeding oysters and mussels. Over 90% of the coliform and heterotrophic bacteria in oysters were found in organs associated with the digestive tract. Coliforms were mainly found in the stomach while heterotrophs were present in both stomach and the lower intestine. The results suggest that the stomach flora of oysters are mainly derived from the external environment and, through a process of selection and multiplication, that it may be gradually replaced by a more indigenous population which dominates the lower digestive tract.  相似文献

The first reports ofCarex hybrids in North America appeared in the middle and late 1800’s. By the early 1900’s and up to the middle 1900’s there was disagreement among the influential North American botanists regarding the extent to which hybrids existed. Those who recognized hybridization inCarex have been largely supported by recent studies, but only a small proportion of the reported hybrids are well documented. An understanding of hybridization in the genus is very important to systematic research and routine identification, as well as to the study of evolution and ecology. A total of 253Carex hybrids have been reported from North America, the greatest number of hybrids occurring in the northeast, where recent glaciation and overlapping flowering periods are probably among the causal factors. Based on current reports, hybrids are much more prevalent in subgenusCarex than in subgenusVignea. Field studies and cultivation have proven useful in determining hybrid parentage and delimiting morphological variation, respectively. Both reproductive and vegetative characters as well as anatomical and micromorphological characters have proven taxonomically useful. Cytological studies have documented meiotic irregularities inCarex hybrids and intermediate chromosome numbers. Variation in the meiotic anomalies is apparently associated with the relationship of the parents and with differences in chromosome number.Carex hybrids are largely sterile but some restoration of fertility is evident in backcrosses. Experimental hybridization, flavonoid chromatography, enzyme electrophoresis, phenological characteristics, developmental anomalies and host-parasite relationships have all been underexploited in the characterization of hybrids. A cross-referenced list of North AmericanCarex hybrids is included, along with a list of hybrids not yet reported for North America involving circumpolar species.  相似文献

As shown in Part I, the Vespertilioninae have on the average the lowest encephalization index (EI) of all the Vespertilionid subfamilies available, and the average size indices (Sis) of most of their brain parts are also lowest. There are, however, clear differences between the genera. The highest indices for the total brain and for many brain parts (OBL, DIE, TEL, PAL, SEP, STR, SCH) were found in Myotis, the highest Sis for NEG and MES in Scotophilus, for CER in Lasiurus, for BOL in Rhogeessa, and for HIP in Cbalinolobus. The lowest values for all brain parts except BOL were found in Tylonycteris (for BOL in Glauconycteris). The average EI of the flat-headed bamboo bats Tylonycteris pachypus and T. robustula was 60, i. e., 2/5 less than that of the non-Tylonycteris Vespertilionids, which, as the reference group, have an average EI of 100. The brain size reduction may well be related to the adaptation to extreme flat-headedness. The amount of reduction in the various brain parts differs: it is strongest (about 1/2) in higher but more dispensable brain parts (STR, HIP, NEO) and distinctly lower (about 1/4) in structures closely involved in the fundamental vegetative functions (OBL, MES). Genera with conservative skull characteristics may have derivative characteristics of the brains, and vice versa.  相似文献
