The stable isotopes 2H and 18O were used to determine the water sources of Eucalyptus camaldulensis at three sites with varying exposure to stream water, all underlain by moderately saline groundwater. Water uptake patterns were a function of the long-term availability of surface water. Trees with permanent access to a stream used some stream water at all times. However, water from soils or the water table commonly made up 50% of these trees' water. Trees beside an ephemeral stream had access to the stream 40–50% of the time (depending on the level of the stream). No more than 30% of the water they used was stream water when it was available. However, stream water use did not vary greatly whether the trees had access to the stream for 2 weeks or 10 months prior to sampling. Trees at the third site only had access to surface water during a flood. These trees did not change their uptake patterns during 2 months inundation compared with dry times, so were not utilising the low-salinity flood water. Pre-dawn leaf water potentials and leaf 13C measurements showed that the trees with permanent access to the stream experienced lower water stress and had lower water use efficiencies than trees at the least frequently flooded site. The trees beside the ephemeral stream appeared to change their water use efficiency in response to the availability of surface water; it was similar to the perennial-stream trees when stream water was available and higher at other times. Despite causing water stress, uptake of soil water and groundwater would be advantageous to E. camaldulensis in this semi-arid area, as it would provide the trees with a supply of nutrients and a reliable source of water. E. camaldulensis at the study site may not be as vulnerable to changes in stream flow and water quality as previously thought.  相似文献

弹尾类是土壤动物中常见的优势类群,其作为土壤微食物网的重要组成部分,参与凋落物分解、土壤团聚体形成等重要生态过程。以往对弹尾类分布格局的研究通常关注其在不同海拔梯度或者不同生境类型下的分布情况,但在不同气候带下弹尾类多样性沿纬度分布格局仍不清楚。为讨论不同气候带下弹尾类沿纬度的分布格局及其潜在的环境影响机制,于2017年10月(雨季末期)在云南省同一经度(E 101°)分布的三种典型气候带设置海拔梯度样带:热带雨林(西双版纳,800 m、1000 m、1200 m、1400 m)、亚热带常绿阔叶林(哀牢山,2000 m、2200 m、2400 m、2600 m)、亚高山针叶林(丽江玉龙雪山,3200 m、3400 m、3600 m、3800 m),采集凋落物层弹尾类并调查分析土壤温度、土壤含水量、凋落物厚度、土壤pH、土壤容重及土壤孔隙度等环境因子。利用Berlese-Tullgren法收集土壤动物,共获得弹尾类19150只,隶属于10科29属,其中符■属(39.9%,等节■科)数量最多,其余优势属为棘■属(21.7%,棘■科)和球角■属(10.1%,球角■科),这3个属合计占总体的71.7%。凋落物层弹尾类的密度在亚高山针叶林明显高于热带雨林和亚热带常绿阔叶林,弹尾类的属数排序由多到少依次为热带雨林、亚高山针叶林、亚热带常绿阔叶林。通过最小二乘回归法对弹尾类多样性的海拔格局进行回归分析,得出弹尾类的丰富度指数(Margalef′s指数、Menhinick′s指数)、多样性指数(Shannon-Wiener多样性指数、Simpson多样性指数)和均匀度指数(Pielou均匀度指数)沿热带雨林、亚热带常绿阔叶林、亚高山针叶林呈单调递减格局。通过全模型子集回归筛选最佳环境模型表明,温度是影响弹尾类多样性沿不同气候带分布格局的主要环境因子。本研究为预测不同气候带下弹尾类多样性如何响应环境变化提供参考。  相似文献

Body temperatures of active lizards and their correspondence with microhabitat occupation were studied for nine species of agamid lizards in the central Australian arid zone. Thermoregulatory behaviour was also documented using several measures, such as the use of shade and perch height. The effects of thermal environment on lizard habitat occupation were hypothesized to be significant, because desert regions experience daily and seasonal extremes of temperature that are well in excess of a lizard’s preferred temperature range. All species, except Ctenophorus isolepis and Diporiphora winneckei, were found to have body temperatures that corresponded closely to ground and surface temperatures. Thermoregulatory behaviour was also found to be important throughout a lizard’s daily activity; all study species, other than Ctenophorus isolepis, were found to increase their perch height in the middle of the day. Ctenophorus isolepis was shown to be a strictly terrestrial species that uses the shade of spinifex in its thermoregulatory behaviour. Species exhibited a non‐random selection of microhabitats and a preference for a particular set of thermal and structural factors. In this study, it was shown that structural factors were particularly important in microhabitat occupation. Thermal factors accounted for a smaller proportion of variance in microhabitat occupation, but still played a considerable role in the microhabitat use in central Australian agamids.  相似文献

旨在为三峡消落带选择适合的生态恢复方式提供参考依据。以三峡库区重庆忠县汝溪河流域典型消落带为研究区域,于2015年6月进行原位取样,利用末端限制性片段长度多态性(Terminal Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism,T-RFLP)方法,对消落带的耕地、林地、弃耕地土壤细菌和真菌群落多样性进行研究。研究发现:(1)除容重和密度外,不同用地类型对土壤各理化特性均产生显著影响,林地的含水量、有机质(OM)、全氮(TN)、全磷(TP)、速效氮(AN)、速效钾(AK)、速效磷(AP)的含量显著高于耕地和弃耕地(P0.05)。(2)在三峡库区消落带不同土地利用方式下细菌和真菌多样性均有显著性差异。(3)耕地和林地的细菌多样性无显著性差异,均显著高于弃耕地;不同用地方式中,土壤全磷(TP)和速效磷(AP)显著影响细菌群落结构(P0.05)。(4)真菌群落的Shannon-Weiner指数和辛普森指数在耕地中均为最低,但均匀度指数在3种用地类型之间没有显著性差异;在不同用地方式的土壤中,土壤有机质(OM)、全氮(TN)含量和p H显著影响真菌群落结构(P0.05)。结论:与弃耕地和耕地相比,林地可固持、滞留和保有更多的土壤养分,有较高的细菌多样性和真菌多样性。在三峡消落带165—175 m海拔高程,林地为最适宜的用地方式,建议限制耕作,推广人工生态修复林地建设。  相似文献

Zeitgebers such as light, eating and physical activity provide input to the circadian clock. Chronic circadian misalignment is associated with significant adverse health effects. An improved understanding of the impact of the timing of zeitgebers on the stability of 24-hour rest-activity rhythm in free-living settings may identify behavioural and environmental intervention targets. A total of 133 healthy adults, aged 21–60 years, wore a wrist actigraph for 7 consecutive days. We applied a non-parametric analysis to activity counts to derive rest-activity patterns. We administered a questionnaire through a smartphone app to collect self-reported timing of light exposure, eating episodes and physical activity. To assess the relationship between timing exposures (first and last exposure to outdoor light, first exposure to indoor light, last eating episode, first eating episode, morning physical activity proportion, evening physical activity proportion) and rest-activity or sleep outcomes (bedtimes, total sleep time, inter-daily stability, intra-daily variability, L5 and M10 midpoint), we first calculated Spearman correlations, using the false discovery rate method to control for multiple comparisons. From those significant associations, we then fit regression models adjusting for age, sex, race, household income, education level, study site, body mass index, as well as physical activity. Finally, we tested for interaction between chronotype and each timing-related exposure and stratified the analysis by morning type. All zeitgebers, except for evening physical activity proportion, were correlated with at least four of the seven sleep and rest-activity outcomes. In adjusted analysis, later timing of first (after 6:30 to 7:45 AM versus earlier) and last exposure to indoor light (after 11:00 PM versus earlier) and first (after 7:45–9:45 AM versus earlier) and last eating episode (after 8:00–09:00 PM versus earlier) were associated with a shift of 0.60–1.39 hours to later bedtimes, M10 and L5 midpoints (i.e. timing of peak activities or inactivities). Later timing of first exposure to outdoor light (after 09:30 AM versus earlier) was also associated with 0.51 (95% CI: 0.19 to 0.83) hours longer total sleep time. Higher morning physical activity proportion (> 33%) was associated with 0.95 (95% CI: ?1.38 to ?0.53) hours earlier in-bed time and 0.69 (95% CI: ?1.14 to ?0.24) hours earlier out-of-bed time, 0.92 (95% CI: ?1.41 to ?0.42) hours earlier M10 and 0.96 (95% CI: ?1.42 to ?0.49) min earlier L5 midpoint. The results did not change substantially with further adjustment for total activity. There was a significant interaction between morning chronotype and first eating episode with rest-activity patterns (p < 0.05), with first eating episode associating with timing of activities only in non-morning type adults. Timing of zeitgebers was associated with sleep and rest-activity patterns, including bedtimes, L5 and M10 midpoint. Future research should evaluate the impact of manipulating zeitgebers on both circadian rhythms and health outcomes.  相似文献

Analysis of stable isotope composition is an important tool in research on plant physiological ecology. However, large‐scale patterns of leaf‐stable isotopes for aquatic macrophytes have received considerably less attention. In this study, we examined the spatial pattern of stable isotopes of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) of macrophytes leaves collected across the arid zone of northwestern China (approximately 2.4 × 106 km2) and attempted to illustrate its relationship with environmental factors (i.e., temperature, precipitation, potential evapotranspiration, sediment total carbon and nitrogen). Our results showed that the mean values of the leaf δ13C and δ15N in the macrophytes sampled from the arid zone were −24.49‰ and 6.82‰, respectively, which were far less depleted than those measured of terrestrial plants. The order of averaged leaf δ13C from different life forms was as follows: submerged > floating‐leaved > emergent. Additionally, our studies indicated that the values of foliar δ13C values of all the aquatic macrophytes were only negatively associated with precipitation, but the foliar δ15N values were mainly associated with temperature, precipitation, and potential evapotranspiration. Therefore, we speculated that water‐relation factors are the leaf δ13C determinant of macrophytes in the arid zone of northwestern China, and the main factors affecting leaf δ15N values are the complex combination of water and energy factors.  相似文献

Regular echinoid skeletons, or tests, comprise plate patterns and overall shapes that have proven challenging to analyse solely on the basis of any one approach or process. Herein, we present a computational model, Holotestoid, that emulates four macrostructural ontogenic processes involved in test growth (plate growth, plate addition, plate interaction, and plate gapping). We devise a geometric representation for analysing tests and describe how we use analogies (bubble interactions and close-packing) to emulate the processes. In the computational model, the emulated processes are used to determine the plate size and plate shape and combined to simulate a growth zone. We simulated growth zones for Arbacia punctulata and for Strongylocentrotus franciscanus by changing the value for one parameter, the ambulacral column angle. We quantitatively compared morphological features for simulated forms to those for real specimens to test the computational model. Additionally, we simulated growth zones for A. punctulata, S. franciscanus, Eucidaris thouarsii, and Mellita quinquiesperforata by changing three parameters, ambulacral column angle, peristome radius to apical system radius ratio, and apical system radius to column length ratio. Holotestoid can be used to explain morphological disparity among echinoid tests.  相似文献

以东北三省开发强度最大的辽河中下游地区——下辽河平原为研究对象,根据景观格局脆弱性的概念及内涵,通过景观敏感度指数和景观适应度指数构建景观格局脆弱度指数,并借助地统计学和空间自相关模型分析的理论方法,对下辽河平原景观格局脆弱度的空间分布特征、变异规律以及空间关联格局进行探讨,结果表明:①1989—2010年下辽河平原景观格局脆弱度总体上呈递减趋势;②1989—2010年研究区景观格局脆弱度Moran's I表现为一定程度的正相关,且相关程度略微呈下降趋势;③1989—2010年研究区景观格局脆弱度局部空间自相关和显著性水平均发生了明显的变化;④研究区各时期景观格局脆弱度的空间相关性是受结构性因素和非结构性因素共同影响,C0所占的比例在3a期间有逐步上升趋势,表明非结构性因素对景观格局脆弱度演变的影响程度不断加深,但是结构性因素(地形地貌、水文、土壤植被类型等)仍然对本区景观格局脆弱度的空间分布起决定性作用。  相似文献

Diadromous fish have exhibited a dramatic decline since the end of the 20th century. The allis shad (Alosa alosa) population in the Gironde-Garonne-Dordogne (GGD) system, once considered as a reference in Europe, remains low despite a fishing ban in 2008. One hypothesis to explain this decline is that the downstream migration and growth dynamics of young stages have changed due to environmental modifications in the rivers and estuary. We retrospectively analysed juvenile growth and migration patterns using otoliths from adults caught in the GGD system 30 years apart during their spawning migration, in 1987 and 2016. We coupled otolith daily growth increments and laser ablation inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry measurements of Sr:Ca, Ba:Ca, and Mn:Ca ratios along the longest growth axis from hatching to an age of 100 days (i.e., during the juvenile stage). A back-calculation allowed us to estimate the size of juveniles at the entrance into the brackish estuary. Based on the geochemistry data, we distinguished four different zones that juveniles encountered during their downstream migration: freshwater, fluvial estuary, brackish estuary, and lower estuary. We identified three migration patterns during the first 100 days of their life: (a) Individuals that reached the lower estuary zone, (b) individuals that reached the brackish estuary zone, and (c) individuals that reached the fluvial estuary zone. On average, juveniles from the 1987 subsample stayed slightly longer in freshwater than juveniles from the 2016 subsample. In addition, juveniles from the 2016 subsample entered the brackish estuary at a smaller size. This result suggests that juveniles from the 2016 subsample might have encountered more difficult conditions during their downstream migration, which we attribute to a longer exposure to the turbid maximum zone. This assumption is supported by the microchemical analyses of the otoliths, which suggests based on wider Mn:Ca peaks that juveniles in 2010s experienced a longer period of physiological stress during their downstream migration than juveniles in 1980s. Finally, juveniles from the 2016 subsample took longer than 100 days to exit the lower estuary than we would have expected from previous studies. Adding a new marker (i.e., Ba:Ca) helped us refine the interpretation of the downstream migration for each individual.  相似文献

Objective: To examine the extent to which television (TV) and video viewing is associated with consumption of fast food by preschool‐age children. Research Methods and Procedures: In a cross‐sectional study of 240 parents of children ages 2.0 to 5.9 years, parents reported the number of hours their child watched TV/videos on an average weekday and weekend day in the past month; a daily, weighted average of TV/video viewing was then calculated. The main outcome was parents’ report of their children's fast food intake, using the question, “How many times a week does your child eat at fast food restaurants such as McDonald's, Burger King, or Kentucky Fried Chicken?” dichotomized to (never/<1 vs. ≥1 time/wk). The association of TV/video viewing with fast food intake was evaluated by multiple logistic regression before and after adjusting for several potential confounders. Results: Twenty‐two percent of parents reported that their child ate at fast food restaurants at least once per week. After adjusting for parents’ age, race/ethnicity, and household income as well as child's age and sex, for each 1‐hour increase of TV/video watched per day, the odds ratio (OR) for consuming fast food ≥1 time per week was 1.60 (95% confidence interval, 1.03 to 2.49). After further adjustment for socio‐environmental factors that might serve as proxies for the availability of healthy food options, such as parental time constraints and the availability and high cost of fresh fruits and vegetables in their neighborhoods, the OR for consuming fast food ≥1 time per week was minimally attenuated (OR, 1.55; 95% confidence interval, 1.04 to 2.31). Discussion: TV/video viewing was correlated with fast food consumption among preschool children in this study. Our findings raise the possibility that greater exposure to TV and videos may influence preschool children's consumption of unhealthful foods.  相似文献

A useful method for characterizing biological numerous assemblages at regional scales is the species occupancy frequency distribution (SOFD). An SOFD shows the number or proportion of study sites each species occurred. Species that occur at only a few sites are termed satellite species, while species that occur at many sites are termed core species.This study is the first to document and assess SOFD patterns in aquatic macrophytes. It characterizes SOFD patterns of freshwater macrophyte assemblages in Finland at two spatial and two temporal scales. For this, I analyzed three published datasets on freshwater macrophyte distributions: two from studies conducted at a local scale and the third from large national surveys. One local study and the national study also included data on temporal variation in species occupancy frequencies.In the national study, the number of core and satellite species varied slightly between the older and the newer survey, respectively. Among the 113 waterbodies surveyed as part of the national study, the SOFD followed a unimodal satellite pattern. However, for the older dataset (from the 1930s), a bimodal symmetric pattern also fit the SOFD data well. At the local scale, I observed geographical variation in SOFD patterns. The dataset from southern Finland followed a unimodal satellite SOFD pattern; data from central Finland instead displayed a bimodal symmetric SOFD pattern, although they also fit equally well with a bimodal truncated pattern. Moreover, temporal patterns in central Finland seemed to demonstrate a shift from a bimodal symmetric to a bimodal asymmetric SOFD probably.Geographical variation in the SOFD pattern may be due to variation in the regional species pool. The temporal changes in SOFD pattern may be due to lake eutrophication and anthropogenic disturbance around waterbodies, which may increase number of macrophyte species.  相似文献

Forefoot strike becomes popular among runners because it facilitates better impact attenuation. However, forefoot strike may overload the plantar fascia and impose risk of plantar fasciitis. This study aimed to examine and compare the foot arch deformation and plantar fascia tension between different foot strike techniques in running using a computational modelling approach. A three-dimensional finite element foot model was reconstructed from the MRI of a healthy runner. The foot model included twenty bones, bulk soft tissue, ligaments, tendons, and plantar fascia. The time-series data of segmental kinematics, foot muscle force, and ankle joint reaction force were derived from a musculoskeletal model of the same participant based on the motion capture analysis and input as the boundary conditions for the finite element analysis. Rearfoot strike and forefoot strike running were simulated using a dynamic explicit solver. The results showed that, compared to rearfoot strike, forefoot strike reduced the foot arch height by 9.12% and increased the medial longitudinal arch angle by 2.06%. Forefoot strike also increased the plantar connective tissues stress by 18.28–200.11% and increased the plantar fascia tensile force by 18.71–109.10%. Although it is currently difficult to estimate the threshold value of stress or force that results in injury, forefoot strike runners appeared to be more vulnerable to plantar fasciitis.  相似文献

本研究利用2013至2016年湖南壶瓶山国家级自然保护区巡护监测数据,评估壶瓶山保护区两栖爬行动物多样性水平。壶瓶山保护区在8个监测站点布设了25条两栖爬行动物调查样线,进行常规监测,其中,日间样线14条,夜间样线11条,日间样线平均长度4 km,夜间样线平均长度0.75 km。每个月,每条样线平均调查3次。4年共调查到62种两栖爬行动物,占湖南省两栖爬行动物总种数的38.04%。逐月计算各监测站点的alpha多样性指数和整个保护区的beta多样性指数,按季节比较不同站点间物种组成的Hellinger距离。结果显示,保护区不同位置间、不同的监测站点间以及年际间的两栖爬行动物多样性没有显著差异,提示保护区环境具有相对稳定性。但是,个别位于实验区或邻近实验区的站点,物种组成有着剧烈的波动,表明人为活动影响了两栖爬行动物的分布。另外,保护区两栖爬行动物的物种组成与多样性有着显著的季节差异,这与两栖爬行动物的生物学特性有关。以上结果说明,壶瓶山保护区两栖爬行动物的多样性结构具有稳定性和敏感性的特点,可以考虑用作保护区生物多样性水平的监测指标。  相似文献

Direct day and night underwater observations of juvenile Atlantic salmon Salmo salar during summer and autumn showed a duality in response to temperature between 7 and 11° C for young‐of‐the‐year (YOY) Atlantic salmon. They were predominantly diurnal in early summer and nocturnal in late summer although water temperatures were similar. Post‐YOY Atlantic salmon did not show a strong response to temperature as they were mostly nocturnal during the study period. It is suggested that the difference in activity patterns between YOY and post‐YOY Atlantic salmon can be explained by size‐dependent trade‐off between growth and predation risk.  相似文献

This study was designed to measure the average size of the motor unit functional innervation zone (FINZONE) in healthy and in diseased muscles, intramuscularly, in fatigue-inducing maximal voluntary contractions. The bicipital EMG interference patterns of 188 subjects (32 healthy, 83 neuropathic, 28 myasthenic, 13 myotonic, and 32 myopathic) were recorded with coaxial needle electrodes. From them, the FINZONE size criterion was computed, repeatedly, each 5.84 s to complete fatigue. The data display showed that the FINZONE size diminished with fatigue. Over all groups, this decrement was significant at P = 0.00001. Separately, only the normals and the neuropathic groups reached significance. Measured by the FINZONE size, the five groups divided into two significantly different clusters: (a) the {myopathic/myasthenic} cluster with large FINZONE sizes and (b) the {normal/neuropathic/myotonic} cluster with smaller ones. Several explanations for these findings were entertained. Also, as significant group differences were found, these results may prove helpful, complementing other variables, in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders. Both issues (FINZONE diagnostic value and FINZONE size decrement with fatigue) deserve additional study.  相似文献

Short-base stereophotogrammetry was used to study differential growth and development of the soft tissues of the face. Thirteen facial parameters were measured at ages 9, 11, 13, 15, and 16 years on 170 facial contour maps selected from a mixed longitudinal study of 26 boys and 26 girls. Each parameter was measured three-dimensionally, and its developmental progress at the earlier stages was expressed as a percentage of its value at 16 years of age. Standing height development was assessed in the same way. Three parameters that measured soft tissues surrounding the eyes grew little but were very advanced in their development, following a "neural" pattern. The remaining facial parameters grew more but were less advanced, and standing height was least advanced. There appeared to be three separate patterns of development, "neural," "facial," and "skeletal." Girls were, in general, smaller than boys, but their development was more advanced when measured as a percentage of size at 16 years compared with boys.  相似文献

云南森林植物(系指木本植物)主要起源于新生代,少数古老种起源于古生代至中生代。云南森林植物区系成分极为丰富而复杂,据研究已知森林植物149科(蕨类植物1科,裸子植物10科,被子植物138科),840属,5271种。本文根据对云南森林植物15个分布区类型统计分析,证明云南森林植物区系明显富于热带性同时兼有丰富的温带成分,热带属占总属数72.12%,温带属占总属数21.87%,中国特有属在云南有46属,占云南总属数5.33%。中国特有属的三个分布中心。有两个分布中心在云南(即新特有属中心和古老特有属中心)。本文还对云南森林植物区系的地理成分起源;云南森林植物区系成分复杂、丰富之成因;云南森林植物开发利用之前景进行了研究和探讨。  相似文献
