EPs recording under Nembutal anaesthesia during stimulation of the medial section of the horizontal part of the diagonal band nucleus (HNDB) shows a wide spreading of HNDB afferentation over the neocortex: from the frontal area to the medial and some posterior parts of the auditory, parietal areas and Ep zone, with the least activation of the latter three regions and activation increasing intensity correspondingly in the somatic zones II, I (SII, SI), motor and frontal cortex. Such reduction of signals flow intensity oriented both in caudal and ventral directions of the cortex goes with foci of maximal activity of these signals in the motor, parietal areas and zones of representation of various body parts in SI and SII. Traits of similarity and differences of signal's projections in the neocortex from HNDB and thalamic relay nuclei have been revealed. A hypothesis is substantiated on different mechanisms underlying peculiarities of influences of these subcortical nuclei on the cortex depending on the type of their afferent-neuronal links in the latter and their functional role in the brain activity.  相似文献

A study was carried out on 8 adult cats of functional role of the frontal, parietal and occipital parts of the neocortex, and also of the dorsal hippocampus, mediodorsal thalamic nucleus and caudate nucleus head, in realization of a delayed spatial choice (DSCh) before and after compensatory reorganizations of the brain activity caused by multiple electrical stimulation of the frontal part of the cerebral cortex. Compensatory reorganization led to a change of functional significance of these structures. While before this change the frontal cortex, hippocampus and mediodorsal thalamic nucleus were critically necessary brain areas for the realization of the DSCh, after it parietal and occipital cortical areas acquired such significance. The obtained data are discussed proceeding from the principle of the integrity in the brain activity.  相似文献

The influences of different parts of the neocortex on the rabbit alimentary behaviour produced by stimulation of the hypothalamic "alimentary centre" were studied in chronic experiments on rabbits with electrodes implanted in different formations of the limbic system and the midbrain. It has been found that electrical stimulation of the frontal and anterior parietal cortical areas raised the threshold of the evoked alimentary reaction. Inhibitory influences of the frontal areas proved to be stronger and more prolonged than those of the anterior parietal area. Electrical stimulation of the posterior parietal and occipital cortical areas decreased the threshold of the evoked alimentary reaction. Coagulation of the dorsal hippocampus eliminated the inhibitory influences of the neocortex, while coagulation of the mesencephalic reticular formation discontinued the facilitating influences of the neocortex on the alimentary reaction.  相似文献

Auditory processing in primate cerebral cortex.   总被引:22,自引:0,他引:22
Auditory information is relayed from the ventral nucleus of the medial geniculate complex to a core of three primary or primary-like areas of auditory cortex that are cochleotopically organized and highly responsive to pure tones. Auditory information is then distributed from the core areas to a surrounding belt of about seven areas that are less precisely cochleotopic and generally more responsive to complex stimuli than tones. Recent studies indicate that the belt areas relay to the rostral and caudal divisions of a parabelt region at a third level of processing in the cortex lateral to the belt. The parabelt and belt regions have additional inputs from dorsal and magnocellular divisions of the medial geniculate complex and other parts of the thalamus. The belt and parabelt regions appear to be concerned with integrative and associative functions involved in pattern perception and object recognition. The parabelt fields connect with regions of temporal, parietal, and frontal cortex that mediate additional auditory functions, including space perception and auditory memory.  相似文献

In psychically healthy persons of three age groups (30-40, 50-60, 80-90 years), as well as in those suffering from Alzheimer's disease (50-60 years) right and left hemispheres formations, including into a single functional system (fields 8, 10, 47 and the nucleus caudatus) have been investigated. Using the series of frontal paraffin sections 20 mcm thick, stained after Nissl and Bielschowsky methods, cyto-glioarchitectonics and neuronal composition of the structures mentioned have been studied. In 0.001 mm3 of the brain substance, in cortical layers II and V and in the nucleus caudatus head density of neurons, perineuronal glia, neurons with lipofuscin, size of the neurons have been calculated. Various degree of manifestation of morphological changes is revealed in different stages of the single functional system. These changes are directly proportional to the organizational level of the structures studied and depend on the stage of the process, on accompanying diseases and individual peculiarities of the person. They are more intensive in the frontal fields and weaker in the nucleus caudatus. At Alzheimer's disease they are more distinct in the associative fields 10 and 47, at normal ageing--in the motor structures--in the field 8 and then in the nucleus caudatus. Spreading of the pathological process occurs with a predominant damage of neurons of cholinergic origin.  相似文献

The homologues of the two distinct architectonic areas 44 and 45 that constitute the anterior language zone (Broca's region) in the human ventrolateral frontal lobe were recently established in the macaque monkey. Although we know that the inferior parietal lobule and the lateral temporal cortical region project to the ventrolateral frontal cortex, we do not know which of the several cortical areas found in those regions project to the homologues of Broca's region in the macaque monkey and by means of which white matter pathways. We have used the autoradiographic method, which permits the establishment of the cortical area from which axons originate (i.e., the site of injection), the precise course of the axons in the white matter, and their termination within particular cortical areas, to examine the parietal and temporal connections to area 44 and the two subdivisions of area 45 (i.e., areas 45A and 45B). The results demonstrated a ventral temporo-frontal stream of fibers that originate from various auditory, multisensory, and visual association cortical areas in the intermediate superolateral temporal region. These axons course via the extreme capsule and target most strongly area 45 with a more modest termination in area 44. By contrast, a dorsal stream of axons that originate from various cortical areas in the inferior parietal lobule and the adjacent caudal superior temporal sulcus was found to target both areas 44 and 45. These axons course in the superior longitudinal fasciculus, with some axons originating from the ventral inferior parietal lobule and the adjacent superior temporal sulcus arching and forming a simple arcuate fasciculus. The cortex of the most rostral part of the inferior parietal lobule is preferentially linked with the ventral premotor cortex (ventral area 6) that controls the orofacial musculature. The cortex of the intermediate part of the inferior parietal lobule is linked with both areas 44 and 45. These findings demonstrate the posterior parietal and temporal connections of the ventrolateral frontal areas, which, in the left hemisphere of the human brain, were adapted for various aspects of language production. These precursor circuits that are found in the nonlinguistic, nonhuman, primate brain also exist in the human brain. The possible reasons why these areas were adapted for language use in the human brain are discussed. The results throw new light on the prelinguistic precursor circuitry of Broca's region and help understand functional interactions between Broca's ventrolateral frontal region and posterior parietal and temporal association areas.  相似文献

The cortical connections of the dorsal (PMd) and ventral (PMv) subdivisions of the premotor area (PM, lateral area 6) were studied in four monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) through the use of retrograde tracers. In two animals, tracer was injected ventral to the arcuate sulcus (PMv), in a region from which forelimb movements could be elicited by intracortical microstimulation (ICMS). Tracer injections dorsal to the arcuate sulcus (PMd) were made in two locations. In one animal, tracer was injected caudal to the genu of the arcuate sulcus (in caudal PMd [cPMd], where ICMS was effective in eliciting forelimb movements); in another animal, it was injected rostral to the genu of the arcuate sulcus (in rostral PMd [rPMd], where ICMS was ineffective in eliciting movements). Retrogradely labeled neurons were counted in the ipsilateral hemisphere and located in cytoarchitectonically identified areas of the frontal and parietal lobes. Although both PMv and PMd were found to receive inputs from other motor areas, the prefrontal cortex, and the parietal cortex, there were differences in the topography and the relative strength of projections from these areas.

There were few common inputs to PMv and PMd; only the supplementary eye fields projected to all three areas studied. Interconnections within PMd or PMv appeared to link hindlimb and forelimb representations, and forelimb and face representations; however, connections between PMd and PMv were sparse. Areas cPMd and PMv were found to receive inputs from other motor areas—the primary motor area, the supplementary motor area, and the cingulate motor area—but the topography and strength of projections from these areas varied. Area rPMd was found to receive sparse inputs, if any, from these motor areas. The frontal eye field (area 8a) was found to project to PMv and rPMd, and area 46 was labeled substantially only from rPMd. Parietal projections to PMv were found to originate from a variety of somatosensory and visual areas, including the second somatosensory cortex and related areas in the parietal operculum of the lateral sulcus, as well as areas 5, 7a, and 7b, and the anterior intraparietal area. By contrast, projections to cPMd arose only from area 5. Visual areas 7m and the medial intraparietal area were labeled from rPMd. Relatively more parietal neurons were labeled after tracer injections in PMv than in PMd. Thus, PMv and PMd appear to be parts of separate, parallel networks for movement control.  相似文献

Event-related potentials (ERPs) evoked by key stimuli informing a subject about the forthcoming recognition of the global or local level of a hierarchical test figure were analyzed in 7-year-old children with different levels of maturity of the regulatory brain systems. Differences in both the initial ERP components P1, N1, and P2 (which reflect the analysis of the sensory characteristics and significance of a key stimulus) and the late components N3, Pc, and Nc (which reflect the preparation for the recognition of a subsequent test figure) were found. It was shown that, in children with frontal-thalamic regulatory system immaturity (FTRSI), the amplitude of the ERP component N1 is decreased in the caudal areas. In children with an immature bottom-up activation system, a decrease in the amplitude of initial ERP components in the caudal areas was observed in a broader time interval in components P1, N1, and P2. As compared to the control groups of children, in children with immature frontal-thalamic structures, components N3, Pc, and Nc were different in both the caudal and precentral areas. In children with immature lower brainstem activation structures, the late ERP components were different, predominantly, in the parietal and temporo-parieto-occipital areas. Comparison of ERPs in response to global and local key stimuli in children of the control group demonstrated a clear-cut temporal and topographical organization in the period of preparation for subsequent recognition of a prescribed level of the test stimulus: the earlier preparation stages were associated with component N3 in the parietal and temporo-parieto-occipital areas, whereas later stages were associated with Pc changes in the frontal areas. In children with FTRSI, changes in the late components in the caudal areas were poorly expressed and their topographical organization (characteristic of the control group) was absent; the involvement of the frontal areas in the late stages of the key stimulus analysis was restricted. These findings may give grounds to suggest the significance of the frontal-thalamic system in the organization of the response to an expected stimulus. In children with immature lower brainstem activation structures, the type of the key stimulus was reflected in the late ERP components in a diffuse way.  相似文献

Cortico-cortical connections occurring within the temporal lobe and afferent projections to the temporal cortex particularly from the prefrontal and parahippocampal areas were studied in the monkey by means of retrograde axonal transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) or wheat-germ-agglutinin-conjugated HRP (WGA-HRP). In particular, 0.1-0.3 microliter of 50% HRP or 5% WGA-HRP was injected into various parts of the temporal cortex, i.e. the rostral (TEr), the caudal (TEc), and the most caudal (TEO) parts of the inferotemporal cortex, the superior temporal gyrus, and the temporal pole (TG), and in the upper bank of the inferior arcuate sulcus in the frontal lobe. Labeled cells, which represent cells of origin of association fibers projecting to the injection site, appeared in various cortical regions. The main findings of the present study are the following. The temporal pole (TG) receives fibers almost exclusively from the most rostral part of the TE. The rostral part of the TE receives many fibers from both the caudal part of the TE and the TEO. The caudal part of the TE receives fibers from the TEO, and the TEO from the prestriate cortex (OA and OB). Taking these findings together, the morphological basis of the "step-wise" progression of visual impulses from the prestriate cortex to the TEO, TE and finally to the TG is clearly presented. The superior temporal gyrus (TA or area 22) receives most fibers from the dorsolateral frontal gyrus, while the inferotemporal cortex (TE or areas 21 and 20) receives most fibers from the ventrolateral frontal gyrus (inferior frontal convexity). Both the temporal pole (TG) and the inferotemporal cortex (TE) receives a fair number of fibers from the parahippocampal region (TH and TF).  相似文献

In the work presented the projections of rostral and caudal areas of the putamen on the thalamic nuclei were studied. The analysis of the frontal serial sections from the cat brains impregnated according to the methods of Nauta-Gygax, Finck-Haimer, Wiitanen made it possible to state that all the areas of the putamen radiate a great number of axons to the lateral thalamic nuclei--ventro-anterior, ventro-lateral, lateral-posterior, and ventro-posterior-medial. Only the rostral area of the putamen sends a mass of fibres to the nuclei of the median thalamus--medial-dorsal, central, central-lateral and ventro-posterior-lateral. On the other hand, in the posterior thalamic nucleus a great number of axons only from caudal area of the putamen have their terminals.  相似文献

By means of retrograde axonal transport of the horseradish peroxidase and fluorochromes in the cat, it has been stated that neurons of all the parts of the substantia nigra (SN) make projections to the putamen. These projections are organized in such a way that the rostral part of the putamen gets the projected fibers from less number of the SN parts than the caudal part. To the caudal part of this formation all parts of the SN are projected, and in the equal degree to its dorsal and ventral segments. Projections to the rostral part are sent only from two parts of the SN--compact and dorsal. To the dorsal segment of this part only axons from a small amount of the nigral neurons are sent. A small amount of neurons of the tegmental ventral field give projections to the ventral segments along the whole rostrocaudal extent of the putamen. Convergence of the SN neuronal axons in the formations of the striated body has been determined, as well as overlapping of the terminal fields in the putamen from the projective neurons of the nigral various parts. Besides in different parts of the SN discrepancy has been revealed in the neuronal populations, labelled with different stainings, that contain cells, marked with two markers, injected into the nucleus caudatus and into the putamen.  相似文献

Repeated audiogenic seizures (4 times a day for 14 days), in genetically selected sensitive mice, induce a significant decrease in GABA level in the following brain areas: nucleus caudatus, posterior colliculus, occipital and frontal cortex, cerebellum, substantia nigra, hippocampus, amygdala, and temporal cortex. No variations were observed in olfactory bulbs, pons medulla, hypothalamus, thalamus, or cochlear area.  相似文献

An EEG cross-correlation analysis has shown that in children aged four to five years higher sensory analysis of verbal commands and their meaning was reflected in the nature of synchronous interactions between oscillatory processes and their spatial-temporal patterns. At the moment of perception of the command "listen" highly synchronous synphasic relations were recorded between biopotentials in the associative infero-parietal cortex and projection temporal centres of the left hemisphere. Oscillations of the parietal areas preceded the rhythms of the occipital, motor and frontal lobes in the left hemisphere; slow oscillations with a 3 osc/sec frequency predominated, and the intensity of the periodic processes increased. The command "look" evoked a high degree of synchronous synphasic relations of biopotentials in the parietal-occipital cortical parts of both hemispheres; oscillations with 6 osc/sec frequency predominated; their intensity rose; synphasic relations of oscillations in parietal and motor and temporal centres grew more manifest, while the rhythmic activity in the parietal zones preceded the potentials in the frontal lobes of both hemispheres.  相似文献

Stereotaxic microinjections of horseradish peroxidase (HP) were made into different parts of the rostral and caudal periaqueductal gray (PAG) in cats to study corticofugal projections to the PAG. The method of retrograde axonal transport of HP demonstrated labeled neurons in the I and II somatosensory areas, frontal, cingular and insular cortex of the brain. It was shown that the II somatosensory cortex projects to all the areas of the rostral and caudal PAG. The frontal cortex projects to the dorsolateral quadrant of the PAG. The findings obtained enabled the detection of the morphological substrate of the corticofugal effects on one of the antinociceptive brain structures--the PAG.  相似文献

Fibrillar degeneration after extirpation of the frontal cortical field F2, central part, was observed in dogs by Nauta--Gygax and Fink--Heimer's methods. Degenerated fibrillae were stated to form two bundles and terminate near the neurons of nonspecific thalamic nuclei: n. ret, MD, pf, sprf, as well as in the neurons of specific thalamic nuclei: n. Vna, cgl, cgm, pul. Degenerated processes of the frontal cortex cells projected to the neurons of basal nuclei: the head of nucleus caudatus, putamen, globus pallidus. In the claustrum degenerative changes were not observed.  相似文献

Topographical Atlas of the Gangliosides of the Adult Human Brain   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:2
Forty different brain samples, consisting of neocortical, archicortical, and paleocortical areas; telencephalic, diencephalic, and mesencephalic subcortical nuclei; and the cerebellum as well as some of the corresponding white matter bundles were analyzed with respect to total content of ganglioside-sialic acid and the ganglioside pattern. The total content of gangliosides seems to depend mainly on the proportions of gray and white matter. Thus, neocortical areas, which are rich in gray matter, have a four- to fivefold higher ganglioside content (per milligram of protein) than white matter-rich samples such as optic chiasm, capsula interna, or corpus callosum. White matter-rich regions, although very heterogeneous in ganglioside composition, are further characterized by appreciable amounts of the myelin-enriched GM4. In the neocortex a remarkable degree of regional pattern differences was revealed. In the frontal and parietal areas there is a moderate, and in the temporal region a strong preponderance of sialic acid bound to gangliosides of the a-pathway (GD1a, GM1). In contrast, the occipital cortex favors the b-pathway of ganglioside synthesis (GQ1b, GT1b, GD1b). A predominance of "b-gangliosides" was found in all structures that are related to the visual system (optic chiasm, pulvinar-thalamus, superior colliculi, visual cortex) as well as in the cerebellum and the nucleus ruber. All diencephalic nuclei tend to favor slightly "b-gangliosides," while the mesencephalic nuclei are very heterogeneous in their ganglioside composition. A preponderance of "a-gangliosides" was found in the periamygdalar cortex, putamen, inferior colliculi, substantia nigra, frontal white matter, internal capsule, globus pallidus, basal nucleus of Meynert, and corpus callosum as well as in the frontal, parietal, and temporal cortices. An exceptional predominance of GM1 and GD1a was revealed for the hippocampal archicortex and the amygdala, suggesting a possible functional correlation to glutaminergic synaptic transmission.  相似文献

The lipid compositions of 10 different brain regions from patients affected by Alzheimer's disease/senile dementia of Alzheimer's type were analyzed. The total phospholipid amount decreased somewhat in nucleus caudatus and in white matter. The cortical areas that are morphologically affected by Alzheimer's disease, i.e., frontal and temporal cortex and the hippocampus, showed elevated contents of lipid solvent-extractable phosphatidylinositol. Sphingomyelin content was decreased in regions rich in myelin. There was a 20-50% decrease in dolichol amount in all investigated parts of the brain, but no change was seen in the polyisoprenoid pattern. Levels of alpha-unsaturated polyprenes were decreased in Alzheimer brains. Dolichyl-phosphate content increased in most regions, up to 100%. In both control and Alzheimer tissue almost all of the dolichyl-phosphate was covalently bound, apparently through glycosylation. Cholesterol amounts were highly variable but mostly unchanged, whereas ubiquinone concentrations increased by 30-100% in most regions in brains affected by Alzheimer's disease. These results demonstrate that both phospholipids and neutral lipids are modified in brains affected by Alzheimer's disease/senile dementia of Alzheimer's type.  相似文献

Specific features of EEG coherence of a man-operator were revealed before the erroneous actions ("false alarm" and "signal omission") in the process of training to recognize masked visual stimuli. In persons with expressed alpha-rhythm at rest the "false alarms" were associated with the highest level of beta-frequency correlation in the frontal areas. Errors of the "signal omission" type were observed against the background of increased alpha-coherence in the frontal and occipital derivations. These features were more pronounced in the right brain hemisphere. The results suggest that the erroneous actions are predetermined by a specific state of the frontal brain regions, which participate in decision making, and are probably related with inadequate information transmission from the caudal regions to the frontal ones.  相似文献

Dopamine autoreceptors were studied by determining the effects of chronic antidepressant treatment on the ability of several doses of apomorphine to decrease 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine accumulation (an index of dopamine synthesis in vivo) after saline or γ-hydroxybutyric acid lactone (γ-butyrolactone). 3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanine accumulation was measured in nigrostriatal [nucleus caudatus putamen] and mesolimbic [nucleus accumbens and tuberculum olfactorium] nerve terminals. Apomorphine decreased 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine accumulation in the nucleus caudatus putamen, tuberculum olfactorium and nucleus accumbens in a dose-related manner. Chronic imipramine (10 days) treatment attenuated the low and high dose apomorphine-induced decrease in 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine accumulation in the nucleus caudatus putamen to a greater extent than the tuberculum olfactorium or nucleus accumbens. In γ-butyrolactone-treated animals chronic treatment with imipramine, amitriptyline or bupropion (10 days) attenuated the low dose apomorphine effect in the nucleus caudatus putamen, but not the tuberculum olfactorium or nucleus accumbens. Only 2 days of imipramine treatment had no effect on the apomorphine-induced decrease in 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine accumulation in the nucleus caudatus putamen with or without γ-butyrolactone treatment. These data suggest that chronic treatment with three antidepressants produces dopamine autoreceptor subsensitivity in nigrostriatal neurons more than mesolimbic neurons and that this effect is not seen with short-term imipramine treatment.  相似文献
