Summary Common carp of the Chinese and European races and their cross were tested in different environments. The test groups were either stocked together into the same pond, or each group was stocked separately. Mean growth, taken as a measure of the quality of the environment, varied widely between treatments. Genotype-environment interactions were estimated by the regression of growth of different genetic groups on this measure of environment. Proportional growth differences between the European and European X Chinese crossbreds, were several times higher in manured ponds than in ponds with artificial feed. The Chinese fish showed the fastest relative growth in poor conditions, with manure as the major nutrient input, while the European fish showed the fastest relative growth under improved conditions and irrespective of its source of food. The Chinese X European crossbred is heterotic over a range of intermediate conditions with manure as the principal nutrient.  相似文献

Fry of the European and Chinese races of the common carp and interracial crossbred fry were grown together in a series of ponds for 28 days after hatching. The degree of crowding and the amount of available natural food were intentionally varied in these experimental ponds. This resulted in a large variation in mean growth between ponds, ranging from 0·1 to 5·2 g per fish during the 28 days growth period. Under conditions of very slow growth, resulting from severe crowding and lack of natural food, fry of the Chinese carp grew several times faster than European carp. At lower densities and when natural food was more abundant, resulting in a faster rate of growth, this difference between the two races disappeared. Crossbred fry between the Chinese and European carp grew faster than either of their parents under all conditions tested.  相似文献

Summary Relative growth rates of six genetic groups of common carp were compared in small netting cages and in earthen ponds. These groups of carp included an isolate of the Chinese Big Belly Carp, its crossbred with a European isolate, and four European progenies, purebreds or crossbreds. Five different environments were produced in the ponds, mainly by varying the stocking rates of carp. Each of the (ten) cages was treated as a different environment. Each cage and each pond were stocked with random samples of each genotype, i.e., communal testing was carried out. The performance of a given genotype in a given environment was estimated from its weight gain in that environment. The mean weight gain of all groups, stocked into a given environment, was taken as an estimate of that environment as it influenced the growth of carp. The characteristics of the regression of growth of a given genotype on the environment in which it grew [i.e., the coefficient of regression (b) and the Y intercept (a)] are taken as measures of its adaptation to that environment. No real differences in adaptation to pond versus cage conditions were isolated for four of the tested groups, the Chinese x European crossbred, the two European crossbreds and one of the European purebreds. The Chinese carp showed a specific adaptation to growth in ponds (or a lack of adaptation to growth in cages), whereas Dor-70 was specifically adapted to cage conditions. These results may be explained by the genetic history of the two lines. The Big Belly Carp was domesticated under conditions of Chinese subsistence aquaculture, which apparently generated an adaptation to gathering and utilizing natural foods. These are prominently absent in cages. Dor-70 was produced in a long-term selection experiment, which apparently generated a response for growth in cages. These results may be of applicative value, if common carp were to be considered as candidates for commercial cage aquaculture. It would then be important to use strains like Dor-70, which are adapted to these conditions, and avoid strains like the Chinese Big Belly carp.  相似文献

Length polymorphism in a non-coding spacer (trnLUAA-trnFGAA) in the chloroplast DNA was used in the investigation of the origin of the most common and conspicuous European fern hybrid, Asplenium x alternifolium (Aspleniaceae, Pteridophyta). The origins of A. x alternifolium, the hybrid between A. trichomanes s.l. and A. septentrionale s.l. was studied at three ploidy levels, diploid, triploid and tetraploid. The cpDNA technique allowed us to investigate the mode of hybrid formation between sexual species for the first time over a wide geographic range and with a large sample size. Morphological variation in this hybrid has previously been attributed to different reciprocal parental combinations, and to the influence of chloroplast genes on morphogenesis. Our results demonstrate that one parent, A. septentrionale s.l., acts predominantly as the female parent in these hybrids, with only one population of A. x alternifolium showing reciprocal hybridity. The discovery of predominantly unidirectional hybrid formation in this hybrid may be explained by the different breeding systems of the parental taxa. The role of gametophyte ecology is also assessed.  相似文献

Gonad development was studied in young carp of the European and Chinese (big-belly) races. The effects of age and body weight on gonad and egg size were partitioned and the following findings were made: (i) Gonad weight was correlated, in both males and females, with body weight, but proportional gonad weight, i.e. the ratio gonad weight divided by body weight, was independent of body weight, (ii) Proportional gonad weight had reached its maximum value in one year old males, but it more than doubled in two year old females, (iii) Egg size of two year old females was more than twice the size of eggs of one year old females, (iv) The European and Chinese races of carp differed in several aspects of gonad development. In particular, the Chinese matured earlier and their relative gonad sizes were considerably larger, (v) Genetic variation in gonad development was also found within the European race, where faster rate of development is dominant over slower rate. The evolutionary implications of the above differences were discussed.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to estimate the onset of sexual maturity of F(2) lambs born to crossbred ewes (East-Friesian x Black-Head Pleven breeds) x East-Friesian rams based on measurments of plasma FSH, LH and 17beta-estradiol levels during postnatal development. The hormonal levels were measured by radioimmunoassay in blood samples taken from 107 ewe lambs at the age of 0 to 10 days, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 6 months and at 1 year from anestrous ewes (birth - Day 0). Starting at a baseline concentration during Days 0-10, FSH rose to a peak at Month 2 and declined after Month 3 to levels equivalent to those seen in yearling, sexually mature ewes. Mean LH concentrations rose from baseline to the highest level in samples taken at 5.5 months and stabilized at 6 months to the level seen in yearling ewes. The preovulatory LH peak was recorded in 5.5 month-old lambs. Neither FSH nor LH declined to baseline concentrations in lambs after the initial 10 days of life. 17beta-estradiol fluctuated, showing an initial rise in samples taken between Days 0-10 and Month 2, followed by insignificant variations between different ages and were near to those in yearling ewes. The data suggest that the sexual maturity in lambs is attained at 5.5-6 months of age. The findings allow us to suggest that these crossbred ewes might be fertilized at an earlier age (11-12 months) if they had reached the neccessary body development (body weight: 75-80% of that of adult ewes). They also might be included earlier in estrous synchronization programs in order to give birth to 3 lambs in 2 years.  相似文献

Five asymmetric hybrid plants were obtained between Medicago sativa (2n = 4x = 32) and Medicago arborea (2n = 4x = 32) through sexual reproduction and the use of a cytoplasmically male sterile M. sativa genotype. Over 2,000 pollinations were made to obtain these hybrids. Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis showed that in the most studied hybrid (WA2273), 4% of the bands unique to the M. arborea parent were present, versus 72% for the unique M. sativa bands. This suggests that only a single M. arborea chromosome or chromosome parts has been transferred. WA2273 had 7% of AFLP bands which were not present in either parent, which is suggestive of chromosome rearrangements as would be expected if only chromosome parts or a single part had been transferred from M. arborea. Phenotypic evidence for hybridity was obtained for pod coiling (1.4 coils in WA2273 versus three coils in the M. sativa parent and its self and testcross populations, and one coil in M. arborea), and Colletotrichum trifolii race 2 resistance (transferred from the resistant M. arborea parent, as the M. sativa parent and the self populations were highly susceptible). The hybrids were self sterile, but were female fertile to a high level when crossed with 4x, but not 2x, M. sativa, indicating they were at or near 4x. Both the pod coiling trait and anthracnose resistance segregated in the progeny of testcrosses between WA2273 and M. sativa. The work demonstrates that agronomically useful traits can be introgressed into M. sativa from M. arborea by use of male sterile M. sativa and sexual reproduction.  相似文献

Spatial genetic structure (SGS) holds the key to understanding the role of clonality in hybrid persistence, but multilocus SGS in hybrid zones has rarely been quantified. Here, the aim was to fill this gap for natural hybrids between two diploid, ecologically divergent European tree species with mixed sexual/asexual reproduction, Populus alba and P. tremula. Nuclear microsatellites were used to quantify clonality, SGS, and historical gene dispersal distances in up to 407 trees from an extensive Central European hybrid zone including three subpopulation replicates. The focus was on P. x canescens and its backcross parent P. alba, as these two genotypic classes co-occur and interact directly. Sexual recombination in both taxa was more prominent than previously thought, but P. x canescens hybrids tended to build larger clones extending over larger areas than P. alba. The 3.4 times stronger SGS in the P. x canescens genet population was best explained by a combination of interspecific gene flow, assortative mating, and increased clonality in hybrids. Clonality potentially contributes to the maintenance of hybrid zones of P. alba and P. tremula in time and space. Both clonality and SGS need to be taken into account explicitly when designing population genomics studies of locus-specific effects in hybrid zones.  相似文献

A study of the physiological responses of a hybrid between a North European population and a colchicine-induced autotetraploid of a Portuguese population of Dactylis glomerata subspecies lusitanica showed an intermediate response of the hybrid for many characters. However, the hybrid resembled one or other of the parents in the more favourable expression of certain characters in controlled environments at 20°C, 16 h photoperiod and 8 °C, 8 h photoperiod. Rate of dry-matter production of the hybrid did not differ significantly from that of the northern parent at 20 °C, 16 h and that of the Portuguese parent at 8 °C, 8 h. Leaf growth of the hybrid at 8 °C, 8 h was greater than that of the northern parent and together with the high percentage survival in a freezing test may indicate a role for similar hybrids in the development of potential varieties with improved seasonal distribution of dry-matter production.  相似文献

The decline in the male reproductive ability in terms of sexual behavior and seminal traits might lead to nonavailability of required number of bulls in a progeny testing program. The present study was conducted in 493 crossbred cattle (Bos taurus × Bos indicus) bulls to study polymorphisms of growth hormone (GH) gene and its association with seminal and sexual behavioral characteristics. A 428-base pair fragment of GH gene spanning over the fourth exon, fourth intron, and fifth exon was amplified and digested with AluI restriction enzyme. Bulls were found to be polymorphic, with two variants, LL and LV, and higher genotypic frequency for LL being 0.88. Twelve nucleotide changes and a single nonsynonymous substitution of Leucine by Valine were observed from GH1 (L) to GH2 (V). Statistical analysis revealed that the genotype of the GH gene had a significant effect on libido score, reaction time, Flehmen response, requirement of mounting stimulus, sperm mass activity, number of semen doses per collection, individual fresh sperm motility, postthaw sperm motility, acrosome integrity, hypo-osmotic swelling test, live and dead count, total morphological abnormality, and head abnormality of sperm in crossbred bulls. Growth hormone gene might be considered a candidate gene for seminal and sexual behavioral traits in crossbred cattle.  相似文献

Twenty-seven Boran and 37 Boran x Friesian crossbred bulls were weaned at 6 months of age and randomly assigned to either a dry season supplementary feed containing 16% crude protein or control groups. Data were collected on body weight, wither height and scrotal circumference (SC) at monthly intervals. Bulls were also challenged with 100 mug of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) at 2-month intervals and plasma testosterone responses were determined. Semen was collected at monthly intervals by electroejaculation. Post weaning average daily weight gain was significantly (P<0.001) higher in supplemented than in control groups (302 vs 208 g/day). Scrotal circumference growth rates were also significantly (P<0.001) higher in supplemented than in control bulls (0.38 vs 0.31 mm/day). Bulls fed supplemented diets were younger (430 vs 473 days; P<0.001) and heavier (217 vs 203 kg; P<0.05) and had better semen quality at puberty than the control bulls. There was a trend for larger SC at puberty in supplemented than in control bulls (P=0.06). There were no significant differences in wither height or in testosterone response to GnRH at puberty between supplemented and control bulls. Body and SC growth rates to puberty for Boran and Boran x Friesian bulls were 189 and 321 g/day (P<0.001) and 0.27 and 0.42 mm/day (P<0.01), respectively. Boran bulls were older (513 vs 406 days; P<0.01) and lighter (201 vs 215 kg; P<0.05), and had smaller SC (23.9 vs 26 cm; P<0.01) at puberty than Boran x Friesian bulls. Testosterone responses to GnRH increased (P<0.001) with age and were significantly higher (P<0.05) in supplemented and in Boran x Friesian bulls than in control and Boran bulls. Wither height, testosterone response to GnRH and semen quality at puberty did not differ between breeds. Dry season supplementation improved growth rate and enhanced sexual development and maturity in both Boran and Boran x Friesian bulls, and would be a useful management strategy for enhancing fertility in bulls in the tropics.  相似文献

Peritoneal macrophages obtained from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-low responder C3H/HeJ mice (J) permitted the intracellular growth of the bacterium in macrophages of (J x N) F1 progeny was between the parent strains, showing that the traits were co-dominantly expressed. Correlation between intracellular bacterial growth in macrophages and LPS response of spleen cells was examined. Negative correlation was found between the two factors in F2, (J x F1) backcross and (N x F1) backcross progeny. This result implies that Lps gene controls the innate resistance of murine macrophages against the bacteria. Although macrophages of A/J strain also permit intracellular growth of L. pneumophila, gene complementation analysis of A/J and C3H/HeJ mice made clear that the gene control in C3H/HeJ differs from that of A/J strain. Macrophages of C57BL/10ScN, which is LPS-low responder line obtained from C57BL/10, were also defective in controlling the bacterial growth when compared to C57BL/10 mice. We suggest that the Lps gene also controls the natural resistance of murine macrophages against L. pneumophila.  相似文献

The citrus fresh market demands the production of seedless citrus fruits, as seedy fruits are not accepted by consumers. The recovery of triploid plants has proven to be the most promising approach to achieve this goal, since triploids have very low fertility, are generally seedless and do not induce seeds in other cultivars by cross pollination. Triploid plants can be recovered by 2x?×?4x sexual hybridization. In this work, we present an effective methodology to recover triploid plants from 2x?×?4x hybridizations based on in vitro embryo rescue, ploidy level analysis by flow cytometry and genetic origin of triploid plants. The pollen viability of diploid and tetraploid citrus genotypes was analyzed by comparing the pollen germination rate in vitro. The pollen viability of tetraploid (doubled-diploid) genotypes is generally reduced but sufficient for successful pollination. Triploid embryos were identified in normal and undeveloped seeds that did not germinate under greenhouse conditions. The influence of parents and environmental conditions on obtaining triploid plants was analyzed and a strong interaction was noted between the parents and environmental conditions. The parental effect on the length of the juvenile phase was also demonstrated through observations of a large number of progeny over the last 15?years. The juvenile phase length of the triploid hybrids obtained with 'Fortune' mandarin as female parent and tetraploid 'Orlando' tangelo as male parent was shorter than the juvenile phase obtained with a clementine as female parent and tetraploids of 'Nova', 'W. Leaf' and 'Pineapple' male parents. Cauliflower mushroom (Sparassis latifolia or S. crispa) is popular for food and medicine. Importance of new varieties of Sparassis was raised and studied widely by protection system of UPOV. In this study, 10 crossbred strains of Sparassis latifolia that specifically expressed distinctive features during basidiocarp formation and mycelium growth were applied to sawdust medium inoculated with S. latifolia mycelia. The 10 crossbred strains were divided into 3 groups on the basis of morphological (size of marginal wave and basidiocarp color) and genetic characteristics. Each phenotype of the parent and crossbred strains represented 3 marginal wave-sizes (large, medium, and small) and 3 color notations (NN155D, 163C, and 8D). Our result suggests that morphological characteristics of cauliflower mushroom can be affected by various environmental and genetic stimuli under artificial conditions such as crossbreed. Also this research showed genetic differences among breeding isolates and their morphological characteristics were correlated with the molecular data within parent and crossed strain.  相似文献

Shortly after weaning at 8 months of age, 43 Boran and 46 Boran x Friesian crossbred heifers were randomly divided to either receive a supplementary feed containing 16% crude protein during the dry season or to serve as controls. Heifers were examined monthly, and data on body weight, wither height and body condition score were recorded. Ovarian size and structures were determined per rectum and heifers were kept under continuous observation for standing estrus. Blood samples were collected at 10-day intervals every month for determination of plasma progesterone levels. All heifers were exposed to intact bulls for 4 months after they attained 18 months of age. Average daily weight gain to puberty was significantly (P<0.01) higher in heifers given supplementation than in the controls (360 vs 326 g/day). The average daily weight gain in Boran heifers (296 g/day) was significantly (P<0.01) lower than in crossbred (392 g/day) heifers. Mean age at puberty differed significantly (P<0.001) between heifers given supplementation (573 days) and the controls (627 days). Boran heifers attained puberty at a significantly later age (660 vs 540 days; P<0.001) than crossbred heifers. Body weight at puberty did not differ between supplemented and control heifers (226 vs 222 kg); while the difference between Boran and crossbred heifers was significant (216 vs 232 kg; P<0.01). Pelvic size and body condition score were not influenced by supplementation but differed significantly between genotypes. Pregnancy rate after 4 months of breeding was higher in supplemented (79%) than in control (64%) heifers. Boran heifers had a significantly (P<0.001) lower pregnancy rate than crossbred heifers (52 vs 91%). Mean age and body weight at conception were not affected by supplementation but differed significantly (P<0.05) between genotypes. The results indicate that prepubertal supplementary feeding during the dry season increased growth rate, reduced age at puberty and improved fertility in both Boran and Boran x Friesian heifers.  相似文献

At the end of their wintering phase, male European quails were exposed to a stimulation photoperiod of light/dark 12:12 h for 10 days to induce sexual development. A daily oral melatonin supplementation was then given to one group of treated males (N=11) and the alcohol solvent was given to a control group of males (N=10). These solutions were provided during the final 3 h of the photophase for 28 days, then during the final 4 h for 18 days. There were no significant differences between the two groups with respect to fat levels. However, 3 weeks after the beginning of melatonin supplementation, the sexual development of the treated birds slowed down. The importance of this decline varied to a greater or lesser degree between individual birds. When melatonin supplementation stopped, sexual development resumed. Activity recordings revealed a decrease in feeding activity when melatonin supplementation was provided. However, this response showed important interindividual variability. The birds that produced the most marked responses to melatonin during the first 3 weeks of supplementation were those that also showed the most obvious decline in sexual development. It seems that, in European quail, a wild migratory species that always shows a natural biological annual rhythm, a melatonin signal could play a role in regulating reproduction.  相似文献

The inheritance of asexual seed development (apomixis) in Erigeron annuus (Asteraceae) was evaluated in a triploid (2n=3x=27) population resulting from a cross between an apomictic tetraploid (2n=4x=36) pollen parent and a sexual diploid (2n=2x=18) seed parent. Diplospory (unreduced female gametophyte formation) and autonomous development (embryo and endosperm together) segregated independently in the population yielding four distinct phenotype classes: (1) apomictic plants combining diplospory and autonomous development, (2) diplosporous plants lacking autonomous development, (3) meiotic plants with autonomous (though abortive) development and (4) meiotic plants lacking autonomous development. Each class was represented by approximately one-quarter of the population (n=117), thus corresponding to a two-factor genetic model with no linkage (chi(2)=2.59, P=0.11). Observations demonstrate that autonomous embryo and endosperm development (jointly) may occur in either reduced or unreduced egg cells. The cosegregation of the traits is attributed to tight linkage or pleiotropy. The data are consistent with the hypothesis that autonomous development in E. annuus is regulated by a single fertilization factor, F, which initiates development of both the embryo and the endosperm in the absence of fertilization.  相似文献

Apomictic tetraploid Paspalum simplex was crossed with colchicine-doubled diploid sexual plants belonging to the same species. Homologous genomic probes were selected from a partial PstI genomic library for their capacity to detect alleles specific to the apomictic parent, and their segregation was analyzed in the F1 progeny. High levels of polymorphism between apomictic and sexual genotypes were recorded. The heterozygosity was high in both tetraploid and diploid genotypes but the differences between them were not as great as expected. In the sexual parent, some markers segregated as either a monoallelic duplex or a diallelic duplex, while several allelic configurations were observed in the apomictic parent. The segregation of double-dose monoallelic fragments demonstrated the tetrasomic inheritance of apomictic P. simplex. The correlations between apomixis, ploidy level, and tetrasomic inheritance are discussed.  相似文献
