It is well known that oxidative stress plays an important role in the etiology of epilepsy. We investigated effects of selenium (Se) and topiramate (TPM) combination supplementation on antioxidant and oxidant values in control and patients with epilepsy and refractory epilepsy. For the aim, we used control (n?=?19), epilepsy + TPM (n?=?19), epilepsy + TPM + Se (n?=?15) groups. We also used control (n?=?15), refractory epilepsy (n?=?15), and refractory epilepsy + Se (n?=?8) groups. TPM (0.2 mg/daily) and Se, as sodium selenite (twice daily with 0.1 mg doses), were orally supplemented to the patients for 45 days. Erythrocyte lipid peroxidation levels were higher in refractory epilepsy groups than in control although its level and seizure numbers were decreased in TPM and TPM + Se supplemented groups of the patients. The erythrocyte reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), plasma total antioxidant status (TAS), and vitamin E concentration in refractory epilepsy group were lower than in control. However, the erythrocyte and plasma TAS, erythrocyte GSH and GSH-Px, and plasma vitamins A and C values were increased either by Se or Se + TPM in epilepsy and refractory epilepsy groups. There were no effects of TPM and Se on plasma β-carotene values in the groups. In conclusion, TPM and selenium caused protective effects on the epilepsy and refractory epilepsy-induced oxidative injury by inhibiting free radical production and supporting antioxidant redox system.  相似文献

Plasma selenium (Se) concentration and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activity (GPx) were assessed in a population of healthy preschool children two to five years old, residing in the city of Paris. In the 118 subjects, mean (±SD) plasma Se concentration was 62.10 ±13.96 μg/L, and mean GPx activity was 23.58±8.52 U/g Hb. Mean plasma Se of male children was significantly (p=0.001) higher (12%) than levels of girls. Plasma selenium levels were not correlated with erythrocyte GPx activity. Children from Mediterranean origin had a slightly lower erythrocyte GPx activity (p<0.05) than children from other regions. Mean plasma Se concentration of this group corresponded to the lower limit of intervals, which characterizes geographical regions of intermediate selenium concentrations.  相似文献

The selenium state of 40 elderly Belgian people, residing in geriatric homes, has been evaluated. Data are presented on the selenium (Se) contents of their blood, plasma, and erythrocytes. The activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) has been assayed. All data were compared with those obtained for 164 young, working adults as presented in Part I of this study. Plasma selenium levels were significantly lower in the old (73 ng/mL) as compared to the young people (97 ng/mL), but erythrocyte Se levels (200 ng/mL) and GSH-Px activity were significantly higher. The selenium concentration in plasma during infancy has also been estimated. The results reveal a very low Se level during the first months of life, with a gradual increase with age. The results are discussed in the light of literature data.  相似文献

It has been suggested that oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury (TBI). N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and selenium (Se) display neuroprotective activities mediated at least in part by their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties although there is no report on oxidative stress, antioxidant vitamin, interleukin-1 beta (IL)-1β and IL-4 levels in brain and blood of TBI-induced rats. We investigated effects of NAC and Se administration on physical injury-induced brain toxicity in rats. Thirty-six male Sprague–Dawley rats were equally divided into four groups. First and second groups were used as control and TBI groups, respectively. NAC and Se were administrated to rats constituting third and forth groups at 1, 24, 48 and 72 h after TBI induction, respectively. At the end of 72 h, plasma, erythrocytes and brain cortex samples were taken. TBI resulted in significant increase in brain cortex, erythrocytes and plasma lipid peroxidation, total oxidant status (TOS) in brain cortex, and plasma IL-1β values although brain cortex vitamin A, β-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, reduced glutathione (GSH) and total antioxidant status (TAS) values, and plasma vitamin E concentrations, plasma IL-4 level and brain cortex and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities decreased by TBI. The lipid peroxidation and IL-1β values were decreased by NAC and Se treatments. Plasma IL-4, brain cortex GSH, TAS, vitamin C and vitamin E values were increased by NAC and Se treatments although the brain cortex vitamin A and erythrocyte GSH-Px values were increased through NAC only. In conclusion, NAC and Se caused protective effects on the TBI-induced oxidative brain injury and interleukin production by inhibiting free radical production, regulation of cytokine-dependent processes and supporting antioxidant redox system.  相似文献

Sprague-Dawley rats were used to investigate variations in measures of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and selenium (Se) concentration resulting from diurnal cycles and sex. Mature rats (equal numbers of males and females) were killed at 4 h intervals over a 48 h period (0200, 0600, 1000, 1800 and 2200 h each day). Selenium and GSH-Px were measured in plasma, erythrocytes, and liver and kidney cytosols. Selenium concentrations did not vary diurnally, but plasma GSH-Px activities were higher during the light than dark periods. Males had greater plasma GSH-Px activities and Se concentrations (42 EU and .45 mg/kg, respectively) than females (35 EU and .41 mg/kg respectively). GSH-Px activities were also higher in male kidney cytosols than females (117 and 76 EU, respectively). Selenium and GSH-Px activities, however, were lower in male liver cytosols (.48 mg/kg and 272 EU) than females (1.19 mg/kg and 795 EU, respectively). These data suggest that Se is distributed differently in male and female rats and the difference in Se distribution is accomplished by differences in GSH-Px activities.  相似文献

Selenium (Se) levels in whole blood and plasma, and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities in red cells and plasma were measured in ewes fed an Se-deficient diet injected with barium selenate before breeding season. Highly significant increases in Se levels and GSH-Px activities (P<0.001) were observed throughout the gestation period and during lactation. In the control group, Se levels and GSH-Px activities decreased significantly (P<0.001), and were at critically low levels during lambing and lactation periods.  相似文献

An imbalance in the antioxidative system was connected with the development of a number of pathological processes. In order to receive values of a healthy group and to evaluate pathological changes of the trace element dependent antioxidative status in future, we investigated 99 healthy volunteers (45 male and 54 female, mean age 37.4 +/- 11.7 years). We determined the concentrations of Se, Cu and Zn, the concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the activities of the Se dependent glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and the Zn/Cu dependent superoxide dismutase (SOD). The plasma concentrations (mean +/- SD) for Se, Cu and Zn were 0.84 +/- 0.10 micromol/l, 15.6 +/- 2.78 micromol/l and 12.6 +/- 1.80 micromol/l, resp., and for non protein-bound and protein bound MDA 0.27 +/- 0.07 micromol/l and 1.11 +/- 0.25 micromol/l, resp. The activity of GSH-Px in plasma and erythrocytes was 130 +/- 20.8 U/l and 19.8 +/- 4.18 U/mg Hb, resp. and of SOD in erythrocytes 3,159 +/- 847.2 U/g Hb. In plasma positive correlations have been found between Se concentrations and GSH-Px activities (p < 0.002, r = 0.31) and between GSH-Px activities and concentrations of non protein-bound MDA (p = 0.004, r = 0.28). A negative correlation has been observed between GSH-Px activities in plasma and in erythrocytes. The higher the concentrations of Cu in erythrocytes, the higher were the activities of SOD (p = 0.03, r = 0.22) and GSH-Px in erythrocytes (r = 0.26, p = 0.01), while an increasing activity of GSH-Px in these cells correlated with a decreasing concentration of non protein-bound MDA (r = -0,31, p = 0.002). An increase in BMI was connected with an increase in protein-bound MDA and a decrease in GSH-Px activities in pLasma (p = 0.002 and r = 0.23). As the results demonstrate, Se and Cu concentrations in erythrocytes can improve the trace element dependent antioxidative status.  相似文献

Alterations of the normal redox balance in mammals might be attributed to increases of plasma free-radical concentrations and/or a disruption of the protective mechanisms. These conditions lead to damage to cellular structure by the mechanism of lipoperoxidation, particularly in the liver, kidney, and central nervous system. In this study, the effect of general anesthesia on the oxidative metabolism of human plasma and erythrocytes was investigated. Forty-five patients undergoing anesthesia by using halothane, enflurane, or isoflurane were included in this study. Blood samples were taken preoperatively, the first hour, the first day, and the third day after the operation. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) enzyme activities and trace elements such as cofactor copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and selenium (Se) levels were measured in plasma and red blood cells. Our results showed that halothane and enflurane administration increased the plasma GSH-Px activity and reduced zinc levels. In addition, they lowered SOD and GSH-Px activities and trace element levels on erythrocytes. Isoflurane had no effect on plasma antioxidant enzymes, but, similar to the other, isoflurane decreased the plasma zinc levels, erythrocyte SOD and GSH-Px activities and trace element levels. The serum selenium and the whole blood selenium of 72 healthy persons (47 women, 25 men) was determined. There exist sex specific differences of the whole blood selenium between men (98±19 μg Se/L) and women (89±17 μg Se/L). The serum selenium did not show sex specific differences, but sex specific differences are found if the total amount of extracellular selenium is calculated by correction of the serum selenium with the hematocrit. Women have more extracellular selenium/L whole blood (40±8 μg Se) than men (36±7 μg Se). Men have more intraerythrocyte selenium (cellular selenium=67±14 μg Se) in one L whole blood than women (52±17 μg Se). There exist also sex specific differences if the cellular selenium is calculated/g hemoglobin (men .44 μg Se/g Hb, women .37 μg Se/Hb) or per erythrocyte (men 136.1×10?19 g Se/Ery, women 113.9×10?19 g Se/Ery). In the cellular compartment of one L whole blood on the average 1.56 times more selenium is present than in the extracellular compartment. Most of the intraerythrocyte selenium is hemoglobin bound (84%) and utmost 16% glutathione peroxidase associated. An erythrocyte contains about 3500 mol glutathione peroxidase, or, for every 80000 mol hemoglobin one mol glutathione peroxidase. A standard man needs about 2.5 μg selenium/d for the synthesis of the hemoglobin and the erythrocyte. The hematological parameters hemoglobin and the erythrocyte number are correlated with the cellular selenium and the ratio cellular selenium/extracellular selenium. Positive significant correlations are found that are best if a parabolic model is used to interpret the shape of the curves. From the shape of the best correlation lines it can be concluded that selenium may be beneficial for hemoglobin synthesis and erythropoesis. The extracellular selenium may have influence on the volume of the erythrocyte by protecting the outer erythrocyte membrane from lipid peroxidation. A method is reported based on the carbon furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy, which is able to determine without wet digestion selenium in whole blood.  相似文献

Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element and the clinical consequences of Se deficiency have been well-documented. Se is primarily obtained through the diet and recent studies have suggested that the level of Se in Australian foods is declining. Currently there is limited data on the Se status of the Australian population so the aim of this study was to determine the plasma concentration of Se and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), a well-established biomarker of Se status. Furthermore, the effect of gender, age and presence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) was also examined. Blood plasma samples from healthy subjects (140 samples, mean age = 54 years; range, 20-86 years) and CVD patients (112 samples, mean age = 67 years; range, 40-87 years) were analysed for Se concentration and GSH-Px activity. The results revealed that the healthy Australian cohort had a mean plasma Se level of 100.2 +/- 1.3 microg Se/L and a mean GSH-Px activity of 108.8 +/- 1.7 U/L. Although the mean value for plasma Se reached the level required for optimal GSH-Px activity (i.e. 100 microg Se/L), 47% of the healthy individuals tested fell below this level. Further evaluation revealed that certain age groups were more at risk of a lowered Se status, in particular, the oldest age group of over 81 years (females = 97.6 +/- 6.1 microg Se/L; males = 89.4 +/- 3.8 microg Se/L). The difference in Se status between males and females was not found to be significant. The presence of CVD did not appear to influence Se status, with the exception of the over 81 age group, which showed a trend for a further decline in Se status with disease (plasma Se, 93.5 +/- 3.6 microg Se/L for healthy versus 88.2 +/- 5.3 microg Se/L for CVD; plasma GSH-Px, 98.3 +/- 3.9 U/L for healthy versus 87.0 +/- 6.5 U/L for CVD). These findings emphasise the importance of an adequate dietary intake of Se for the maintenance of a healthy ageing population, especially in terms of cardiovascular health.  相似文献

A comparison of the erythrocyte (RBC) antioxidant metabolites and enzymes in nine marsupial and two monotreme species was carried out. Reduced glutathione (GSH) concentrations were comparable with those reported for other marsupial and eutherian species. An important finding was that the erythrocytes of the southern hairy nosed wombat regenerated GSH faster than the erythrocytes from its close relative, the common wombat. The activities of glutathione-S-transferase, NADH-methaemoglobin reductase, Superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), showed similar levels and extents of variation as those observed in other marsupial and eutherian species. Catalase activities in the marsupials were lower than those measured in the two monotreme species and much lower than those reported in eutherian species. A negative correlation, significant at P < 0.05, was observed between GSH-Px and catalase activities in the RBC of the marsupials. Since both these enzymes “detoxify” H2O2, there appears to be a reciprocal relationship between the activities of these enzymes in marsupial RBC  相似文献

The objective of the present work was to study all physiological relationships among selenium status (SeS), sex hormones secretion (SH), and thyroid metabolism (ThM) in healthy adolescent girls, at one time. Forty-four girls aged 13.4–16.6 years (mean age, 14.5 ± 0.5 years) entered the statistical model. Parameters reflecting SeS: plasma selenium concentration (Se) and plasma glutathione peroxidase activity (GPX3); SH: serum estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4); age of menarche (AoM); and ThM: thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (fT4), free triiodothyronine (fT3), antithyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO) in serum, and thyroid volume (ThV), were determined, and the interactions between them were evaluated by means of the partial least squares method (PLS). PLS method was, for the first time, successfully applied to the problem of selenium and hormone interactions and revealed that selenium status and female reproductive system are interrelated and affect thyroid physiology in adolescent girls in the luteal phase. The strongest associations were revealed for the pairs of parameters, Se and fT4/fT3, Se and P4, the modest ones for the pairs, Se and ThV, P4 and fT4/fT3, Se and AoM, and P4 and AoM. There was no correlation between E2, GPX3, and TSH, and any other considered parameter. Se and P4 had the greatest influence on ThM parameters.  相似文献

An experiment is conducted to investigate the effects of selenium (Se) source and level on growth performance, tissue Se concentrations, antioxidation, and immune functions of heat-stressed broilers from 22 to 42?days of age. A total of 210 22-day-old Arbor Acres commercial male chicks were assigned by body weight to one of seven treatments with six replicates of five birds each in a completely randomized design involving a 3?×?2 factorial arrangement plus one Se-unsupplemented basal diet control (containing 0.027?mg of Se/kg). The three Se sources were sodium selenite (Na2SeO3), Se yeast, and AMMS Se (Se protein), and the two supplemental Se levels were 0.15 or 0.30?mg Se/kg. All birds were reared under heat-stressed condition (33?±?1?°C during 0900?C1700?hours and 27?±?1?°C during 1900?C0700?hours with a relative humidity of 60?C80?%). The results showed that heat-stressed chicks fed Se-supplemented diets had higher (P?<?0.10) average daily feed intake, Se concentrations in liver and breast muscle, liver glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity, serum antibody titers against H5N1(Re-4 strain), H5N1(Re-5 strain) and lower (P?<?0.01) mortality compared with the control. Chicks fed the diets supplemented with 0.30?mg/kg of Se had higher (P?<?0.05) Se concentrations in liver and breast muscle, liver GSH-Px activity, and serum antibody titer against H5N1 (Re-4 strain) than those fed the diets supplemented with 0.15?mg/kg of Se. Broilers fed the diets supplemented with Se yeast had higher (P?<?0.001) Se concentrations in liver and breast muscle than those fed the diets supplemented with Na2SeO3 or AMMS Se. However, broilers fed the diets supplemented with AMMS Se had higher (P?<?0.05) serum antibody titers against H5N1 (Re-4 strain) and H5N1 (Re-5 strain) than those fed the diets supplemented with Na2SeO3. These results indicated that Se yeast was more effective than Na2SeO3 or AMMS Se in increasing tissue Se retention; however, AMMS Se was more effective than Na2SeO3 or Se yeast in improving immune functions of heat-stressed broilers.  相似文献

The plasma glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and selenium (Se) levels were determined in 31 newborns affected by jaundice (NWJ). The GSH-Px levels of both full-term and premature newborns exhibiting jaundice and having a birthweight lower than 2000 g were significantly low (p<0.05) when compared to controls. No significant differences were found in the corresponding Se levels, which were similar in all groups and independent of the pregnancy period and birthweight.  相似文献

The periparturient period represents a stressful time for dairy cows as they transition from late gestation to early lactation. Oxidation stress occurs during this period owing to the increased metabolic activity. Antioxidants supplementation slightly above the suggested requirements may be beneficial in relieving this kind of stress. The objective of this study was to determine whether supplementing selenium (Se) yeast to diets with adequate Se concentrations affects Se status, oxidative stress, and antioxidant status in dairy cows during the periparturient period. Twenty multiparous Holstein cows were randomly divided into two groups with ten replicates in each group. During the last 4 weeks before calving, cows were fed Se-yeast at 0 (control) or 0.3 mg Se/kg dry matter (Se-yeast supplementation), in addition to Na selenite at 0.3 mg Se/kg dry matter in their rations. The concentrations of Se, reactive oxygen species (ROS), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), hydroxyl radical, malonaldehyde (MDA), α-tocopherol and glutathione (GSH), the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), and the total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) in plasma or erythrocyte of dairy cows were measured at 21 and 7 days prepartum, and at 7 and 21 days postpartum. Cows fed Se-yeast supplement during the last 4 weeks of gestation had higher plasma Se and lower MDA concentrations at 7 days prepartum, and at 7 and 21 days postpartum, and had higher whole blood Se and lower plasma ROS and H2O2 concentrations at 7 and 21 days postpartum compared with control cows. Se-yeast supplementation increased plasma and erythrocyte GSH-Px activities and erythrocyte GSH concentration at 7 days postpartum as compared to Se-adequate control cows. Compared with control cows, the enhanced SOD and CAT activities, increased α-tocopherol and GSH concentrations, and improved T-AOC in plasma at 7 and 21 days postpartum in Se-yeast-supplemented cows were also observed in this study. The results indicate that feeding Se-adequate cows a Se-yeast supplement during late gestation increases plasma Se status, improves antioxidant function, and relieves effectively oxidative stress occurred in early lactation.  相似文献

A meta-analysis integrating results of 40 selenium (Se) supplementation experiments that originated from 35 different controlled randomized trials was carried out in an attempt to identify significant factors that affect tissue Se accumulation in chicken. Examined factors included: Se source (12 different sources examined), type of chicken (laying hens or broilers), age of birds at the beginning of supplementation, duration of supplementation, year during which the study was conducted, sex of birds, number of chickens per treatment, method of analysis, tissue type, concentration of Se determined and Se added to feed. A correlation analysis was also carried out between tissue Se concentration and glutathione peroxidase activity. Data analysis showed that the factors significantly affecting tissue Se concentration include type of chicken (P=0.006), type of tissue (P<0.001) and the analytical method used (P=0.014). Although Se source was not found to affect tissue Se concentration (overall P>0.05), certain inorganic (sodium selenite), calcium selenite, sodium selenate and organic sources (B-Traxim Se), Se-yeast, Se-malt, Se-enriched cabbage and Se-enriched garlic as well as background Se level from feed ingredients were found to significantly affect tissue Se concentration. The Se accumulation rate (estimated as linear regression coefficient of Se concentrations to Se added to feed) discriminated between the various tissues with highest values estimated in the leg muscle and lowest in blood plasma. Correlation analysis has also shown that tissue Se concentration (pooled data) was correlated to Se added to feed (r=0.529, P<0.01, log values) and to glutathione peroxidase activity (r=0.332, P=0.0478), with the latter not being correlated with Se added to feed. Although significant factors affecting Se concentration were reported in the present study, they do not necessarily indicate the in vivo function of the antioxidant system or the level of accumulated Se as other factors, not examined in the present study, may interact at the level of trace element absorption, distribution and retention.  相似文献

It is widely believed that oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathogenesis of type II diabetes. The present study was undertaken to examine the functioning of two antioxidant scavenger enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), in erythrocytes in a population of healthy aging adult women compared with a similar population with type II diabetes. Blood samples were examined from 42 female adult healthy subjects at different ages and from 59 female patients with type II diabetes. A significant increase in SOD activities was correlated with aging in erythrocytes of the healthy control subjects (r = .550, P = .001); however, this correlation was not found in subjects with type II diabetes (r = .250, P < .07). A trend showing a reduction in glutathione peroxidase activities was demonstrated with aging (r = −.331, P = .228); however, this trend was not found in diabetic subjects (r = .031, P < .820). The results indicate a possible imbalance in the antioxidant system in erythrocytes of aging adult women, which is even more pronounced in cases of type II diabetes. This study may indicate possible therapeutic treatment or preventive measures to limit oxidative damage and reduce complications of diabetes.  相似文献

Selenium (Se) plays a crucial role in protecting biological materials from oxidative damage through the action of the selenoprotein glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and the effectiveness of this protection is often dependent upon Se supply. Recent evidence has indicated that GSH-Px mRNA expression can be upregulated in response to potential oxidative damage risk, and that this upregulation is independent of Se supply. The current study aimed to determine the effect of Se supplementation, stocking rate and tissue fatty acid profile on GSH-Px activity in breast and thigh tissue of commercial broilers. A total of 168 Ross 308 broiler chicks were enrolled onto the study. Prior to enrolment, birds were brooded as a single group and received a starter diet containing no additional Se. The study was a 2 × 2 factorial design comprising of two levels of dietary Se (high Se, 0.5 mg/kg total Se, low Se background Se only), and two stocking rates (high, 30 kg/m2, and low, 15 kg/m2). At 15 days of age, birds were blocked by live weight and randomly allocated to one of the four treatments, with six pen replicates per treatment. At 42 days of age, one bird was randomly selected from each pen replicate, euthanased and breast and thigh tissue harvested. GSH-Px activity, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and fatty acid (FA) content of these tissues were determined. There was no effect (P > 0.05) of stocking rate on GSH-Px activity or TBARS. GSH-Px activity did not differ between tissue types but was greater in high Se birds (P < 0.001) compared to low Se. TBARS concentrations were greater in thigh tissue (P < 0.001), and these thigh concentrations were greater in high Se birds (P < 0.05). There were marked differences between breast and thigh tissue in most FAs (P < 0.001), with breast generally containing greater proportions of polyunsaturated FA, so that breast tissue had a higher (P < 0.001) peroxidisability index (PI) than thigh. A positive correlation between GSH-Px activity and PI in the thigh tissue of high Se birds (Pearson Correlation 0.668; P = 0.025) may indicate that increasing susceptibility to peroxidisation in lipid-rich tissues may also upregulate GSH-Px activity in Se-replete birds. This study suggests that ensuring adequate dietary selenium could be a useful tool to mitigate adverse effects on meat quality caused by oxidation, particularly in lipid-rich meat.  相似文献

Selenium (Se) concentrations in whole blood and plasma of 19 nonpregnant women. 14 mothers at delivery, 14 neonates, and 13 infants, aged 2–12 mo, were evaluated. The activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in erythrocytes and plasma and the level of lipid peroxides in plasma were also analyzed. Selenium concentrations in whole blood and plasma in mothers at delivery were significantly lower compared to nonpregnant women. Selenium concentrations in cord blood components were lower compared to mothers, but the differences were not significant. The concentration of the element decreased in the first few months of life. Glutathione peroxidase activity in erythrocytes differed only slightly in the examined groups. In plasma, however, the enzyme activity was significantly lower in pregnant compared to nonpregnant women and in neonates compared to their mothers. Lipid peroxide concentrations in plasma differed only slightly in the examined groups. The results obtained are discussed in terms of the observations of other investigators.  相似文献

The study covered 152 lung cancer patients and 210 controls. The results of the study indicated decreased selenium (Se) concentrations and lowered activity of erythrocyte antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione-S-transferase) in the blood of lung cancer patients, as well as significantly increased concentrations of vitamin E in erythrocytes and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances in the plasma of the study population. Low plasma Se concentrations (< 45.7 microg/L) enhance the estimated risk of lung cancer (odds ratio = 3.047, p < 0.001). A more precise exposure assessment is required to identify the association between lung cancer incidence and occupational exposure to carcinogens.  相似文献
