Blood flow to the testis, haemoglobin oxygen saturation and testosterone concentration in arterial and venous testicular blood vessels were studied in Texel rams in the breeding and non-breeding season. Blood flow in the proximal and distal testicular artery was measured electromagnetically. The mean flow in the proximal testicular artery was 18.5 ml/min and in the distal testicular artery 7.5 ml/min, and there was no detectable seasonal influence. Haemoglobin oxygen saturation and testosterone concentration were measured in the saphenous artery and vein, the distal testicular artery and vein, and in the proximal testicular vein. The haemoglobin oxygen saturation in the proximal testicular vein was significantly higher than in the distal testicular vein in both seasons. The mean testosterone concentration was significantly lower in the proximal testicular vein than in the distal testicular vein in both seasons. Based on haemoglobin oxygen saturation and testosterone data, it was calculated that between 28 and 46% of the testicular arterial blood was bypassing the testis and was directly flowing through arterio-venous anastomoses towards the pampiniform plexus in the spermatic cord of conscious rams. In anaesthetized rams 55 and 64% of the blood was flowing directly from the testicular artery to the pampiniform plexus based on blood flow data. Transfer of testosterone and oxygen by passive diffusion from the testicular artery to the pampiniform plexus and vice versa in the spermatic cord was not detected.  相似文献

Summary The vascular architecture of the rat testis and spermatic cord was studied by a corrosion cast technique combined with scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and light microscopy. The casts preserve the endothelial impressions of the vessels and enable them to be differentiated into the various vascular components. Frequent arterio-arterial anastomotic arcades and occasional arterio-venous anastomotic channels are seen. A well defined hexagonal pattern of intertubular and peritubular vessels surround the seminiferous tubules. Prominent large endothelial nuclei protrude into the arterial lumina at branching sites, but their functional significance is not known. The outermost vascular layer of the testis consists of large veins, venules, and capillaries, but lacks any arterial branches; it also contains loosely arranged veno-venous anastomotic networks. We have named this vascular layer the sub-albugineal venous plexus. The testicular artery increases in luminal diameter as it approaches the testis. The periarterial capillary plexus, which lies between the pampiniform plexus and the testicular artery, is drained by two types of venules.  相似文献

Summary The highly coiled testicular artery within the bovine spermatic cord has a constant luminal diameter but a continuously decreasing mural thickness. The pampini form plexus is composed of three interconnected venous networks differing in mesh sizes and calibres. The large veins of the first network display pouches and permanent constrictions, which may serve as throttle devices. The constitutents of the third network are venules or venous capillaries with diameters between 10 and 20 m; they favor a periarterial position or even occupy the media-adventitia border of the testicular artery. All plexus veins are devoid of valves. The existence of true arteriovenous anastomoses between smaller branches of the testicular artery and plexus veins was established by serial sections. The vascular morphology of the spermatic cord is discussed with special attention to a postulated venous-arterial steroid transfer in this region.Supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Stiftung zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung an der Universität Bern  相似文献

The saphenous vein (SV) is the most commonly used conduit for revascularization in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG). The patency rate of this vessel is inferior to the internal thoracic artery (ITA). In the majority of CABG procedures the ITA is removed with its outer pedicle intact whereas the (human) SV (hSV) is harvested with pedicle removed. The vasa vasorum, a microvessel network providing the adventitia and media with oxygen and nutrients, is more pronounced and penetrates deeper towards the lumen in veins than in arteries. When prepared in conventional CABG the vascular trauma caused when removing the hSV pedicle damages the vasa vasorum, a situation affecting transmural flow potentially impacting on graft performance. In patients, where the hSV is harvested with pedicle intact, the vasa vasorum is preserved and transmural blood flow restored at graft insertion and completion of CABG. By maintaining blood supply to the hSV wall, apart from oxygen and nutrients, the vasa vasorum may also transport factors potentially beneficial to graft performance. Studies, using either corrosion casts or India ink, have shown the course of vasa vasorum in animal SV as well as in hSV. In addition, there is some evidence that vasa vasorum of hSV terminate in the vessel lumen based on ex vivo perfusion, histological and ultrastructural studies. This review describes the preparation of the hSV as a bypass conduit in CABG and its performance compared with the ITA as well as how and why its patency might be improved by harvesting with minimal trauma in a way that preserves an intact vasa vasorum.  相似文献

Noncoronary vasa vasorum have been described as networks of microvessels in the wall of arteries and veins. However, we have shown, using microcomputerized tomography (micro-CT) imaging methods, that porcine coronary vasa vasorum have a tree-like branching structure similar to the vasculature in general. In this study, we elucidate functional aspects of coronary vasa vasorum perfusion territories. Three pig hearts were injected with radiopaque Microfil via the coronary sinus to fill the left anterior descending coronary arteries (LADs) retrogradely at atmospheric pressure. In three other hearts, LADs were injected antegradely at 100-mmHg pressure via the left main carotid artery. Additionally, six LADs were injected in vivo with a suspension of 100- or 300-microm-diameter microspheres before harvesting of the hearts and injection of the LADs with Microfil. All harvested LADs were scanned intact with micro-CT (20 microm cubic voxels). The spatial density of vasa vasorum (no. of vasa/mm2) was measured in 20-microm-thick cross sections (at 0.4-mm intervals). Retrogradely injected LADs showed high and uniformly distributed vasa vasorum densities in the adventitia (means +/- SE; 5.38 +/- 0.09 vs. 3.58 +/- 0.1 vasa/mm2 in antegradely prepared LADs; P < 0.001). Antegradely prepared LADs showed patchy distributed, low-vasa-vasorum-density territories especially on the myocardial side of the coronary artery wall (epicardial density: 4.29 +/- 0.13 vasa/mm2 vs. myocardial density: 2.80 +/- 0.1 vasa/mm2, P < 0.001). Microembolization reduced vasa vasorum densities significantly (100-mum-diameter microspheres: 3.26 +/- 0.07 vasa/mm2, P < 0.05; 300-microm-diameter microspheres: 2.66 +/- 0.07 vasa/mm2, P < 0.001 vs. antegrade controls) and increased the size of low-vasa-vasorum-density territories. We conclude that coronary vasa vasorum are functional endarteries not connected via a plexus. This characteristic may have a significant impact on the spatial distribution of perfusion and drainage of the coronary vessel wall.  相似文献

Activity of gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) in the testes of mature and prepuberal rats was investigated histochemically and biochemically. Histochemically, the enzyme activity was localized predominantly in the arterial and arteriolar endothelium and was absent from the capillaries and the seminiferous tubules. The activity in the arterial endothelium extended to the testicular artery on the surface of the testis and in the spermatic cord, but the veins in both the pampiniform plexus and on the testicular surface were negative. The endothelium of the testicular artery was already faintly positive at birth, and the activity increased during the second and third postnatal week during the branching and remodeling of the intratesticular arteries and arterioles. Activity of GGT was estimated quantitatively after dissection of the testis into tubular and interstitial tissue. The enzyme activity was very low in the tubules. It was fivefold stronger in the interstitium, and this activity was further enhanced by pretreatment of the dissected tissue with collagenase to remove the Leydig cells.  相似文献

The origin, pattern of distribution and the length of the convoluted part of the testicular artery were examined by blunt dissection and by the preparation of arterial casts with vinylite. The testicular artery originates from the abdominal aorta just cranial to its bifurcation and forms compact coils and reveals a tortuous course in the region of the pampiniform plexus and along the attached border. The artery divides at the caudal extremity of the testis into 2--4 branches. The epididymal artery, which is a branch of the testicular artery, was seen to anastomose with the deferential artery, but no anastomosis occurs between these arteries and the testicular artery. The convoluted part of the testicular artery was 20 cm in length, but when unravelled totalled 240 cm. This is not affected by seasonal variations. The possible significance of these results was discussed and compared with similar findings of other mammals.  相似文献

In the present study, we have evaluated the influence of the location of the blood sampling in the spermatic vein on the steroid concentrations observed. Simultaneous blood sampling at two different points of the spermatic vein (iliac level and pampiniform plexus) was perfomed in the same patients during a surgical protocol for varicocelectomy. In order to further evaluate which of the two sampling points is more useful to investigate testicular secretion, we have performed both forms of sampling in 4 volunteers given an HCG stimulation 24 h before the surgical procedure. It was found that levels of testosterone (T) and 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) were higher in the pampiniform plexus (scrotal) than at the iliac sampling point (T scrotal 1,168.343 +/- 142.65 nmol/l, iliac 850.63 +/- 143.411 nmol/l, n = 21, p less than 0.01; 17-OHP scrotal 260.130 +/- 43.14 nmol/l, iliac 164.46 +/- 31.02 nmol/l, n = 17, p less than 0.01). This indicates that spermatic blood collected at the scrotal sampling point has received more blood coming from the testis than the blood collected at the iliac point. We did not observe significant differences in progesterone and delta 4-androstenedione (delta 4) levels between the two samplings. The T/delta 4 ratio was significantly lower in the iliac than in the scrotal sampling (T/delta 4 scrotal 31.420 +/- 6.69; iliac 15.41 +/- 3.84; p less than 0.05). After HCG stimulation, testosterone concentrations were higher in the pampiniform plexus than in the iliac sample. This suggests that the first sampling point is more proper for studying testicular secretion.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The authors studied 520 patients with left-sided varicocele by left-sided phleborenotesticulography of Doppler ultrasonography, tensiometry of the left renotesticular venous system, blood gas composition, hormonal parameters, and etc. They present rationale for and evidence illustrations of aortomesenteric compression of the left renal vein, left-sided phleborenal hypertension prior to and after surgery for endovascular occlusion of the left testicular vein, before and following intervenous proximal testiculoiliac venous bypass surgery. The data of andrological dysfunction in patients with varicosis of the pampiniform plexus and spermatic cord (varicocele) are presented. An algorithm of examination and treatment of this cohort of patients, by using both miniinvasive techniques (for X-ray endovascular occlusion of the temporal veins under local anesthesia) and high tech operations using microsurgical techniques (testiculoiliac venous anastomosis), is outlined.  相似文献

The origin, distribution and structure of the blood vessels of the female reproductive tract and the testis of the brush possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) were studied using latex and silicone rubber casting and histological techniques. Latex casts of the vessels of the female tract were also studied in five macropod species – Macropus giganteus, M. eugenii, M. agilis, Megaleia rufa and Thylogale billardierii, and in the common wombat (Vombatus ursinus). The female reproductive tract in the brush possum was supplied and drained by four major sets of paired vessels – ovarian, cranial urogenital, caudal urogenital, and internal pudendal arteries and veins. These vessels formed substantial anastomoses with one another on each side of the midline, and also across-the-midline anastomoses. The proximal part of the ovarian artery ran in close apposition to the ovarian vein, which received one or more large uterine branches. In its distal protion the ovarian artery gave rise to a leash of small, tortuous ovarian branches, which wound around and between the plexiform ovarian veins. The testicular arteries and veins in this species also ran in close apposition to one another. Both arteries and veins branched into many smaller, mildly tortuous, parallel vessels in the spermatic cord, which reunited before entering the testis. The blood vessels of the reproductive tract in all of the macropod species studied, and in the common wombat, were basically similar to those of the brush possum. The intimate structural relationships between ovarian arteries and veins, and their ovarian branches, in these marsupials are suggestive of specializations for counter-current exchange between venous and arterial blood. However, in contrast to those of the testicular vessels where heat exchange is a demonstrated function, their physiological significance remains unknown.  相似文献

Blood flow to the testis, measured by the133-Xenon isotope clearance technique, initially increased after rams were exposed to elevated (32°C) temperature. However, after 5 and 7 days continuous exposure, blood flow decreased significantly. Similar changes in blood flow to the testis were found during whole body exposure to elevated temperature, or when the temperature of the testis was increased by scrotal heating. After one week of heating the wall of the spermatic artery in the middle region of the pampiniform plexus had thickened, and the arterial lumen had decreased significantly. The PGF 2 content in the testis of rams exposed to elevated temperature increased significantly. It is tentatively postulated that the higher levels of PGF 2 in the testis of rams exposed to elevated temperature may be responsible for impaired spermatogenic function by constricting the spermatic artery in the pampiniform plexus region and thereby reducing blood flow to the testis.Published with approval of the Director of Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station as Journal Article 75-5-150.Presented at the Seventh International Biometeorological Congres, 17–23 August 1975. Ten rats were embalmed, the veins of the head latex-injected, and the heads were dissected. Five rats were used to prepare corrosion casts of the venous structures of the head. It was found that the rat has an orbital venous plexus rather than an orbital venous sinus as seen in the mouse and hamster. The orbital venous plexus was formed by the external dorsal ophthalmic vein, the external ventral ophthalmic vein and numerous anastomoses between these veins. Of major interest was a large anastomotic vein located in the caudaldorsal area of the orbit. The anastomotic vein joined the orbital venous plexus and the superficial temporal vein.  相似文献

The extrinsic ovarian blood vessels were studied in 134 ewes. In view of recent evidence that uterine luteolysis may involve venoarterial transfer of prostaglandin F2alpha in the ovarian pedicle, particular attention was paid to the interrelationships between veins and arteries. The ovarian artery and utero-ovarian vein are large vessels of conventional structure and lie in close apposition. Their walls are slightly thinner on their apposing sides. The ovarian branches of the ovarian artery are very tortuous, and closely intertwined with the plexiform ovarian branches of the utero-ovarian vein. An extensive plexus of small veins surrounds the ovarian artery and its ovarian branches. Within this plexus are many thin-walled, dilated regions, interspersed with narrow, thick-walled segments. Valves are inconstantly present at sites of entry of branches of the plexus into the major veins. Small numbers of arterio-venous anastomoses are present in the distal part of the ovarian pedicle. Unless blood can flow in a veno-arterial direction through arterio-venous anastomoses or capillary beds, the structural barrier between uterine venous and ovarian arterial blood is substantial.  相似文献

Background

Balloon injury (BI) of the rat carotid artery (CCA) is widely used to study intimal hyperplasia (IH) and decrease in lumen diameter (LD), but CCA's small diameter impedes the evaluation of endovascular therapies. Therefore, we validated BI in the aorta (AA) and iliac artery (CIA) to compare it with CCA.

Methods

Rats underwent BI or a sham procedure (control). Light microscopic evaluation was performed either directly or at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 16 weeks follow-up. The area of IH and the change in LD (LD at 16 weeks minus LD post BI) were compared.

Results

In the BI-groups the area of IH increased to 0.14 ± 0.08 mm2 (CCA), 0.14 ± 0.03 mm2 (CIA) and 0.12 ± 0.04 mm2 (AA) at 16 weeks (NS). The LD decreased with 0.49 ± 0.07 mm (CCA), compared to 0.22 ± 0.07 mm (CIA) and 0.07 ± 0.10 mm (AA) at 16 weeks (p < 0.05). The constrictive vascular remodelling (CVR = wall circumference loss combined with a decrease in LD) was -0.17 ± 0.05 mm in CIA but absent in CCA and AA. No IH, no decrease in LD and no CVR was seen in the control groups.

Conclusions

BI resulted in: (1.) a decrease in LD in CCA due to IH, (2.) a decrease in LD in CIA due to IH and CVR, (3.) no change in LD in AA, (4.) Comparable IH development in all arteries, (5.) CCA has no vasa vasorum compared to CIA and AA, (6.) The CIA model combines good access for 2 F endovascular catheters with a decrease in LD due to IH and CVR after BI.  相似文献

The development of the vascular bed in the rabbit ear was investigated using vascular corrosion casts from animals of various ages. Examination of the casts revealed that the arrangement of the major auricular arteries and veins was determined before birth and was maintained during postnatal growth of the ear. Furthermore, the number of arteries branching off the central ear artery and the lateral arteries did not increase with increasing ear length. Scanning electron microscopic examination of lateral segments of adult ear casts revealed many anastomoses between marginal arteries and veins. These arteriovenous anastomoses (AVAs) occurred singly, in pairs, or in clusters of three to six. Their size and shape were variable, even in the same cast. The central segment of many AVA casts showed surface impressions of endothelial cell nuclei which were different from the impressions on adjacent arteries and veins. Arteriovenous anastomoses were also detected in ear casts from animals as young as 8 days. The density of AVAs in lateral ear segments ranged from 95-165 cm-2 in 8- to 11-day-old rabbits to 80-115 cm-2 in adults. However, estimates of the total number of AVAs in the lateral ear margin indicated that AVAs continued to be formed at a steady rate during growth of the ear. During the early neonatal period the cutaneous capillary plexuses developed prominent tufts projecting toward the skin surface, which were apparently associated with developing hair follicles. These capillary tufts were not seen in casts from fetal or adult rabbits.  相似文献

The three-dimensional microvascular anatomy of the testes of adult Xenopus laevis was studied by scanning electron microscopy of vascular corrosion casts. Results showed that testicular arteries branch off from urogenital arteries and approach the testes via the mesorchium. At the dorsal surface of testes, arteries course towards the medial and lateral surfaces of the ovoid testes, pierce the tunica albuginea and run in the subalbugineal space and then penetrate the testicular parenchyma. In the parenchyma, they branch in all directions. At sites where larger branches arise, sphincters are present. Intimal cushions are found at the origin of smaller branches. Terminal arterioles capillarize and form a wide-meshed capillary network around convoluted seminiferous tubules. Inter- and peritubular capillaries cannot be differentiated reliably. Arterio-venous transition distances are short. Arterio-arterial anastomoses and veno-venous anastomoses are present. Testicular venules empty into a venous subalbugineal plexus which shows veno-venous anastomoses of different lengths and calibres. Signs of the ongoing non-sprouting angiogenesis, particularly intussusceptive branch remodelling, reflect the dynamics of the testicular parenchyma. The present study is the first that demonstrates the testicular microvascular anatomy in an anuran species and shows that X. laevis and men share the intricate convoluted seminiferous tubules with associated vascular patterns as a feature in common.  相似文献

Information is rapidly emerging regarding the important role of the arterial vasa vasorum in a variety of systemic vascular diseases. In addition, increasing evidence suggests that progenitor cells of bone marrow (BM) origin may contribute to postnatal neovascularization and/or vascular wall thickening that is characteristic in some forms of systemic vascular disease. Little is known regarding postnatal vasa formation and the role of BM-derived progenitor cells in the setting of pulmonary hypertension (PH). We sought to determine the effects of chronic hypoxia on the density of vasa vasorum in the pulmonary artery and to evaluate if BM-derived progenitor cells contribute to the increased vessel wall mass in a bovine model of hypoxia-induced PH. Quantitative morphometric analyses of lung tissue from normoxic and hypoxic calves revealed that hypoxia results in a dramatic expansion of the pulmonary artery adventitial vasa vasorum. Flow cytometric analysis demonstrated that cells expressing the transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor for stem cell factor, c-kit, are mobilized from the BM in the circulation in response to hypoxia. Immunohistochemistry revealed an increase in the expression of c-kit+ cells together with vascular endothelial growth factor, fibronectin, and thrombin in the hypoxia-induced remodeled pulmonary artery vessel wall. Circulating mononuclear cells isolated from neonatal calves exposed to hypoxia were found to differentiate into endothelial and smooth muscle cell phenotypes depending on culture conditions. From these observations, we suggest that the vasa vasorum and circulating progenitor cells could be involved in vessel wall thickening in the setting of hypoxia-induced PH.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to investigate the cause of the early endothelial damage that is seen at sites of microvascular anastomosis and in particular to study the possibility of a connection between damage to the vasa vasorum and subsequent endothelial denudation. Rat femoral vessels were subjected to a variety of experimental injuries, including simple dissection, clamping, and ligation. The vessels were examined in longitudinal section by light microscopy at intervals ranging from 5 minutes to 1 day. The endothelial cells were counted and the numbers were analyzed statistically. In addition, the anatomy of the vasa vasorum was studied using india ink perfusion. Simple dissection of the femoral vessels and excision of the vasa vasorum without interruption of blood flow were followed by ischemic lesions of the tunica media with subendothelial edema and ballooning and exfoliation of endothelial cells. Endothelial denudation reached a maximum level in 30 minutes. Adherence of leukocytes was found on damaged endothelial cells. Mural thrombi were seen in 13.6 percent of arteries and in 40 percent of veins following simple dissection.  相似文献

Albrecht, U., Lametschwandtner, A., Adam, H. 1979. The vascularization of the anuran brain. Diencephalon and choroid plexus. A scanning electron microscopical study of vascular corrosion casts. (Department of Zoology, University of Saulzburg, Austria.) — Acta zool. (Stockh.) 61(4): 203–220. The vascularization of the diencephalon (with choroid plexus of the third ventricle, epithalamus and pineal region, thalamus and hypothalamus) of the toad, Bufo bufo (L.) has been studied by means of scanning electron microscopy of vascular corrosion casts. To localize angioarchitectonic patterns of distinct diencephalic regions the authors refer to critical point dried specimens and to histological sections. In the choroid plexus a supply via one choroid artery, which arises from the posterior telencephalic artery, was found. Its strict dichotomous branching is pointed out. In generally a similar vascular pattern like that in the choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle has to be reported. Furthermore the epithalamic region with the epiphysial area was under investigation. No special angioarchitecture of the epiphysis was found. There are also no prominent vascular connections with thalamic or hypothalamic regions. The thalamic region is supplied by branches of the posterior telencephalic artery as well as by branches of the preoptic artery. Epithalamic and thalamic regions are drained via the posterior diencephalic vein. Special attention was also paid to the preoptic, the chiasmatic and the retrochiasmatic area. No special vascular connections, however, were found.  相似文献
